Week 2: Particular [Larry, 4k, teen and up]

Taking a sip from his water, Louis shifts the mic a little closer to his face, presses the hotkey on his keyboard to continue the recording. “I recently heard someone say there’s a piece of you in how I dress, and it got me thinking. We all subconsciously pick up habits from our loved ones. Whether it’s a particular turn of phrase, or something that we got into because someone we care about loved it. I’ve asked this question on my Instagram – shutupandlistenpodcast – and we’ve had a few wonderful replies to that, so I’ll be reading some of those out shortly, but first I wanted to talk about the people that have become part of me, simply by being part of my life.”

Week 3: Swing [Larry, 5k, teen and up]

Louis swallows, looking at Harry, who grins at him as though nothing’s wrong. He’s leaning against the door of a wardrobe, his long hair having lost some of its curls due to the amount of times he’s run his fingers through it. Louis is still where he was the moment the door got closed behind them, all but pressed up against the wood, trying to keep as much distance between him and Harry as possible.

His heart stutters in his chest as he looks up at his best friend. He’s known Harry since he was barely out of diapers, and Harry gets him in a way that few people ever have – or have tried to. He knows him, to the point where sometimes Louis worries that he’s able to read his mind.

Or: It's Seven minutes in Heaven, but Louis sort of feels like he's ended up in Hell instead when he's forced into a small bedroom with his childhood best friend slash long time crush.

Week 4: Describe [Ziam, 3,5k, mature]

It’s not like his descent into addiction has been anything less than extremely public. It’s not like people won’t have expected it. His fans certainly have, he knows that much. He knows that they might even be happy that he’s here. Liam wishes that he could say he did it because of them. Because of the people that have followed his career, made his career. In a way, maybe he is. Because he wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for them, if he’d simply been Liam Payne of Wolverhampton, as opposed to Liam Payne, 1/5th of One Direction.

But he’s not here for them.

Week 5: Check [Larry, 10k, mature]

He’s just finished making a drink for another customer when a literal angel walks towards him. It’s not an exaggeration to say that the crowd almost seems to part for him, and for a moment Louis wonders if there’s a literal halo around him or if it’s just the lights in the bar, and then he notices the way the man trips over nothing, and the illusion wanes somewhat.

He’s still fucking gorgeous though, even on bambi legs, and Louis resists the urge to paste on his tried-and-ever-undefeated flirty smile. Instead he just grins, appraising this newest customer and trying to remain professional. He might be demiromantic, or whatever the fuck Zayn had called it, but that doesn’t mean he can’t appreciate this man’s good looks. After all, his romantic identity had nothing to do with his sexual identity, much as people assumed it did. For a brief moment Louis laments his decision to stop sleeping with people, especially when the boy pops a dimple when he smiles back at him.

Or: Louis is a bartender who doesn't take drink orders, but just makes drinks based on what he thinks his customers will like. Harry is just another customer. Or is he?

Today is Big Block of Cheese Day, definitely! Which means that the weirdest possible news came out one after the other! First, let’s do an update from yesterday: the IICF video has been taken down - it was not addressed, but it is down :{(! 

Liam was spotted in his home town on Wolverhampton filming...something. It is unclear what is coming, but hopefully we’ll see new content soon! In the meantime, Liam’s show horse, Tommy - which, if you’ll recall, he bought last year - is performing well! A video was posted with his custom Hugo tack and a Liam song playing in the background. Liam also continues to post throwback pictures, each more preppy than the last! You look like you own a boat, said Mae Muller of the LP Show, but like...a big boat. 

And while on the subject of Big Boats, Gordon Smart (formerly) of radio X went on Shane Todd’s Tea With Me podcast yesterday to tell the world that Harry Styles also has an..erm...big boat, and liked to show it off as much as possible by walking around naked in the XFactor house. I think Louis had already said something to that extent (about the nakedness, not the penis) when he claimed to get a “panoramic view” of H back in 2012, but if you needed more confirmation, um. 

ANYWAYS, moving on! Gordon (recently seen interviewing Louis for his Breaking Down the Wall series) announced his departure from radio X today on instagram and Louis promptly liked the post, proving that he is lurking online and does know what the fandom is talking about at any given moment, thank you very much. It seems that Louis also saw me saying the other day that artists should reach out to fans when their experiences are less than stellar, said “hold my beer”, and sent two personalized merch packages to fans whose meet and greets had been cancelled! We love to see it! 

And then the snack foods got involved! Last week, we saw some candy discourse, where Kit Kat, Snickers, M&M and co. discussed their favorite Harry and Louis songs. Today, the official UK Pringle account tagged them both after a fan made...a rainbow meme of them as pringles? Anyways, if they’re reading this: Pringles wants you to go straight to your closet (“wardrobe”) to “Play With Pringles”. Which, um. Rainbows and Boats and Closets, oh my!  And! They want to know what their favorite chip flavors are. #fakefans! Louis’ fav flavor is ObVIOuSlY salt vinegar!

Station Hotel, Dudley

The Station Hotel in Dudley is reportedly one of the most haunted hotels in the UK.

The infamous rooms 214 and 217 are hotspots for paranormal activity along with the cellar and restaurant. Poltergeist activity has been reported throughout the hotel along with full bodied apparitions, strange noises, slamming doors and objects moving on their own.

 Short History

The railway station opened in 1850, the main hotel at the time was called 'The Castle'. In 1896 a meeting was called to discuss the building of a new hotel, which was to be known as 'The Station Hotel', the license was granted and Wolverhampton & Dudley brewery proposed the building be situated on the corner of Birmingham Road and Trindle Road.

The hotel partially opened on the 28th May 1898, the building was black and white with a courtyard and stables. The main entrance for horses and carriages is now the entrance that is situated on the corner of Trindle & Castle Hill.

Room 217

There are reports of the bed shaking and the lights switching on and off.

A manager once slept over in room 217 he got the surprise of his life. Before going to bed, he hung a football shirt on a hanger over the wardrobe. But his sleep was disturbed at precisely 3am by a whispering sound in both ears. He turned over and saw a woman standing in the corner of the room, leaning over the dressing table.

The woman was wearing a black dress, down to the floor with tight-fitting sleeves to her wrist. She had dark hair, scraped back and it was tied into a bun. As she was seen, the whispering stopped and when the light was turned on, the woman disappeared. However, when they woke in the morning the football shirt was neatly folded, lying on the foot of the bed.

  Room 214

The faint image of a figure has been seen in room 214 for many years. No one knows who the phantom is, but it’s said to forlornly stare out the window as if they are waiting for someone to arrive. Whilst in 214, the TV programme 'Most Haunted' filmed the chair in the bedroom moving on its own.

Many people have run from Room 214 in fear and refused to return even for their belongings.

 The Cellar

A commonly experienced spectre at the hotel is that of a bloodied and battered young woman walking the halls of the hotel causing a fright in whoever encounters her. Elizabeth and the married owner, George Williams were secret lovers who carried on an affair right under the nose of Williams’ wife.

One day, after one of their meetings in the cellar, Elizabeth demanded that George leave his wife and run away with her. George, of course, would have none of that. So, he either stabbed or strangled Elizabeth to death and under cover of darkness buried her in an unmarked grave.

Many who have ventured into the cellar have claimed to hear screams, the sounds of choking and then an eerie silence.

The bodies of two children were said to have been hidden in ale barrels. The ghosts of the two small children are said to roam the corridors of the hotel playing pranks on guests and staff.

When One Direction parted ways back in 2015, and in the process shattering the hearts of fangirls across the globe, something remarkable happened. Each of the five members would go on to tackle mainstream chart success from completely different angles. For Wolverhampton’s poster boy Liam Payne, it was following in the footsteps of his personal heroes – the likes of Justin Timberlake and Usher – morphing into an all-singing, all-dancing, pop sensation. Debut single ‘Strip That Down’ featuring Quavo stacked up a rather impressive 318 million views on YouTube, followed by a slew of hits which featured the likes of reggaeton sensation J Balvin and producer mastermind Zedd. On last year’s LP1, Payne dipped his toe into a plethora of different sounds and influences, moving between tropical house and sensual R&B, to slow-burner ballads and trap-laden instrumentals throughout.

As a pop star on the course for global domination, Payne needed his signature uniform. That’s where Hugo comes in. As a brand ambassador, Payne partnered with Hugo back in December for a collection of signature casualwear that included graphic tees, classic shirting and one saucy campaign flaunting the collection’s underwear selection. The collab was a hit, so much so that the dream team had to come together once more for a second instalment. This time around, the collection celebrates Payne’s rapid journey from boyband sensation to established solo artist.

“For the second collection, I had an idea of how the Hugo creative process works and more of an understanding towards materials, colours and the reality of making a collection,” explains Payne. “We could also see what worked in the first collection which all helped to make me feel more comfortable this time around.” Working in a signature palette that rotates between black, white, navy and red, all 14 pieces are inspired by Payne’s own wardrobe – each as sporty as they are sleek. The Hugo logo is redubbed ‘Hugo93.LP’, paying homage to the year Payne was born, emblazing cracking twin sets, full tracksuits and a brand new trainer silhouette. Another motif appears throughout; the chevron – inspired by the arrow tattoo situated on Payne’s arm, photographed in the collection’s campaign by 10 Magazine contributor Tom Craig.

“I love the tracksuits, I normally do so much travelling and it’s so nice having something that’s comfortable but still looks good,” says Payne. (...) As for heading back on stage after life returns to normality, Payne is most excited to sport the jeans: “I think the jeans are going to be my go-to for on stage, I have never had any that fit so well!  And they can be worn with so much of the wider Hugo collection too.” To mark the collection’s release, we asked Liam Payne 10-tastic questions:

1. This season celebrates your journey from teen pop sensation to an established solo artist. If you had to pick only one single One Direction song to listen to for the rest of your life, which would you pick?

Only one song for the rest of your life?! I’d miss out on so much! If I have to pick, I would probably have to say ‘Little Things’ as this will always be one of my favourite songs. It was a crazy time in my life so it brings back a lot of memories and means a lot to me. It was also my first time working with Ed Sheeran which was amazing and I’ve been lucky enough to continue working with him through my solo career.

2. Out of all the collaborators on your debut solo album LP1, who do you think would rock this collection the best?

I’m hoping they’ll all like it, but I think it’s really more Jonas [Blue] or Zedd’s style. Maybe Zedd as he’s in LA and can rock the swimming shorts more regularly than we can over here!

3. The chevron motif that appears throughout the collection is inspired by a tattoo you have on your right arm. If you had to make another motif from one of your other tattoos, which would you pick?

I guess the roman numerals would be the obvious choice as they are my X Factor number and that was obviously when my life changed completely.

4. You say this collection is “full of easy styles that are perfect for the weekend,” what’s your ideal Saturday night?

Because it’s more casual, (...) After that, I’ll either chill or write some music.

5. What makes Hugo the ideal fit to be a global brand ambassador for?

I’ve always really liked the brand it’s really the sort of style that I like. They’ve been amazing to work with and I love that I’m not just the face of but that I can actually get involved in the whole process. It’s ace!

6. What’s your favourite song to perform live?

My favourite song recently has been ‘Polaroid’ but I’ve just released a new song with Alesso called ‘Midnight’ and I cannot wait to get back on stage to perform it!

7. What’s the craziest rumour you’ve heard about yourself?

There was a rumour that I was dead once…my mum called me and asked if I was alive!

8. What’s the fashion moment from your former years that you regret wearing the most?

Some of my travelling gear was questionable back in the day.  I feel like I was still working out my style then, but it was fun getting there.

9. Before you go on stage, what artists are usually on your pre-show playlist?

This changes from show to show depending on how I feel. Usher, John Mayer, Justin Timberlake and Post Malone are normally in there.

10. If you could team up with any other artist for your next Hugo collection, who would you pick?

I’d love to go for someone really random that no one would expect…like Billie Ellish! So many girls are making the collection work for them so it would be cool to actually team up with a female. Imagine if we worked with Billie, it would be so fun to see where that would go.

A 2.8 magnitude earthquake struck the West Midlands late on Monday night, the British Geological Survey (BGS) said.

An earthquake has shaken homes across the West Midlands.

The British Geological Survey (BGS) said the 2.8 magnitude quake hit Walsall at a depth of 4.35 miles (7km) at 22:59 GMT on Monday.

Conversion begins to bring soulful living spaces to Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter

Work has begun to sensitively convert a Grade II listed building in the heart of Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter into exclusive soulful living spaces for urban city dwellers.

The Reliance Works located on Caroline Street, was formerly occupied by jewellery manufacturing firm Pickering and Mayell, who specialised in producing jewellery cases, window display fittings, and silver-plated products.

It served as the hub for their jewellery-case-making plant for almost 100 years from 1913 until 2012 when the business merged with the Talbot group and eventually vacated the premises to relocate nearby.

The historic building dates to 1826 and consists of a pair of houses with rear workshops. It has a range of unique and original Georgian townhouse features including original signage, a decorative front door surround, and original timber beams and wooden-framed windows.

It will be converted into a mixture of townhouses, one bedroom and two bedroom apartments (nine apartments in total) with a new extension to the rear, and a small commercial unit on the ground floor after permission was secured by developers The Urban Project (part of the CityBlock Group) at the end of 2019. Features within the apartments will include reclaimed timber flooring, exposed brickwork, walk-in wardrobes, high-spec kitchens and bathrooms, and access to private gardens and a communal courtyard.

The renovation and conversion work led by the Urban Project had been intended to begin earlier this year but has been pushed back due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It is now anticipated that the apartments and unit will be brought to the market in late 2021.

The Urban Project is working in partnership with BPN architects, Logmoor (main contractor), Harris Lamb (employer’s agent), and Maguire Jackson (sales agents), to bring the new homes to market.

Trevor Bargh of The Urban Project, said: “The Reliance Works building is a real gem in a famous and thriving part of Birmingham City Centre. It has been left in a serious state of disrepair for a long time and so we begin this work with a mixture of relief and excitement. Our intention is to retain the original character that makes the building so special, as we believe that the history of the building is crucial to its journey and its heritage should be respected. “We fully intend to leverage our many years of expertise gained in property development to bring this building back to life with some truly original and much-needed new homes for the local market.”
