Commission for @farahsamboolents !
It was so much fun getting to play around with incorporating analogue media into my process, and Boo was so patient with me <3

Here’s the painting I posted those WIPs about! This is the first traditional painting I’ve done in a while and you can definitely tell, but I think it turned out alright!
I used watercolor, gouache, acrylic, and colored pencils, plus my brush pens and fine liners for inking.
Close ups under the cut!
The last one is in different lighting and before I took it off the pad.
I know my traditional style isn’t as pretty as my digital style but I hope you guys still like her!

When the hero fell to the Gloom, he was thought lost. But when the blood moon rose, the truth was more terrible than anyone had expected…

5″x7″ gouache and watercolor on paper
[Image Description: A painting of a baby giraffe. They lay with their head up, looking at the viewer with kind, indigo eyes. Their yellow coat is patterned with orange stars, and they have a little star on their forehead too. They have pastel indigo fairy wings, matching their eyes. The background is lavender, pink, and pastel blue watercolor, with three yellow stars and a yellow crescent moon. /End ID] (thank you @starberry-skies)

...
Determined, watercolour, 17x23 cm
A seed might not land where there are perfect conditions. A tree might run into difficulties in it's youth, that can make it bend or fall over. To make it, it'll have to work with what it's got, strive upwards to the light and hope that there are friends and family around to support it.
A lot like us.

So, after 2 months of working on it... I FINISHED MY DRAGON AND CENTAUR PAINTING!
It was a tough one as it's pretty big (31x11 inches, I think) and there were ups and downs along the way. But... I finished it.
Then... I scanned it in.
Then... I started adding some things DIGITALLY that I was too afraid to try on the finished painting.
First... I added snow.
And... I kinda l liked it.
Then... (this is the tough one)... I added heat distortion around the dragon's mouth. (like the air's so hot it's distorting the image of the trees behind).
And... I kinda liked that too.
I posted a video about it and overwhelmingly everyone liked the digital enhancements.
So... I'm going to make the poster with this one. Not the original.
And normally... this would have bothered me. I would have felt that the original was "more true to my art", but... BOTH of these are "my art".
There's nothing wrong with adding something digitally if you don't feel comfortable doing it traditionally.
There's no "right or wrong" in art. There's no "cheating".
And despite me saying this to others every day... sometimes I need to remind myself about this too.
If you like painting traditionally but there are some things you feel more confident doing DIGITALLY? Scan that traditional art in and DO IT DIGITALLY!
It's YOUR art. You make it any way you want.
For anyone interested in watching me make this painting... I've made a playlist of the process videos here...
