Y/N Y/L/N SHOCKS MUSIC WORLD WITH CLASSICAL ALBUM AND FEATURED ARTISTS! FIVE PIECES OF THE 26-PIECE ALBUM ARE IN THE INTERNATIONAL CHARTS. EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT 'DEFINITIONS'.
From Viral TikToker to Record Holder, Y/n brings Classical Music back in Trend.
By Sara Ristan | Published February 24, 2024
If you know anything about music, you know the current trends. Pop and Rap is what the current generation likes, with a few outliners. From the very beginning, Y/n seemed to be one of them as well. Her first release, 'A Sailor's Wish', has been trending along with 'Solas', by her fellow artist Jamie Duffy for many weeks.
Her other composed pieces never hit the same numbers, that was until she released a full album. 'Definitions' has 26 original composed pieces, mixed with piano and full orchestra. It's an album full of masterpieces, fully deserving the high praise it has been receiving the past few days.
Every piece in the Album is named after a rare word, each one of them beginning with a letter of the Alphabet. Most of them were composed by Y/n herself, her signature moves regognizable, if you're familiar with her music. If you wish to read a full analysis of the whole album, click here.
Notable, besides the mindblowing compositions, are also the featured artists. We have Adrian Berenguer, Charles Leclerc and Jamie Duffy- each of them well known in their niche. What has raised eyebrows however, is that unlike Adrian and Jamie, Charles himself. He's an athlete, a Formula One driver in fact and very well known. While his fans knew about his releases, singles and even an album with Sofiane Pamart, no one was prepared for the partnership with Y/n.
Especially the titles of the pieces, two of them speaking about love, one is even titled as 'Leman', which means lover. Are these two trying to give us hints?
Beside that, five of the 26 pieces are currently in the charts, having already gathered millions of streams within days. Absolutely mindblowing!

what are your suggestions for starter poetry for people who dont have strong reading/analysis backgrounds
I've answered this a few times so I'm going to compile and expand them all into one post here.
I think if you haven't read much poetry before or aren't sure of your own tastes yet, then poetry anthologies are a great place to start: many of them will have a unifying theme so you can hone in based on a subject that interests you, or pick your way through something more general. I haven't read all of the ones below, but I have read most of them; the rest I came across in my own readings and added to my list either because I like the concept or am familiar with the editor(s) / their work:
Staying Alive: Real Poems for Unreal Times (ed. Nick Astley) & Being Alive: The Sequel to Staying Alive (there's two more books in this series, but I'm recommending these two just because it's where I started)
The Rattlebag (ed. Seamus Heaney and Ted Hughes)
The Ecco Anthology of International Poetry (ed. Ilya Kaminsky & Susan Harris)
The Essential Haiku, Versions of Basho, Buson and Issa (ed. Robert Hass)
A Book of Luminous Things (ed. Czesław Miłosz )
Now and Then: The Poet's Choice Columns by Robert Hass (this may be a good place to start if you're also looking for commentary on the poems themselves)
Poetry Unbound: 50 Poems to Open Your World(ed. Pádraig Ó'Tuama)
African American Poetry: 250 Years of Struggle and Song (ed. Kevin Young)
The Art of Losing: Poems of Grief and Healing (ed. Kevin Young)
Lifelines: Letters from Famous People about their Favourite Poems
The following lists are authors I love in one regard or another and is a small mix of different styles / time periods which I think are still fairly accessible regardless of what your reading background is! It's be no means exhaustice but hopefully it gives you even just a small glimpse of the range that's available so you can branch off and explore for yourself if any particular work speaks to you.
But in any case, for individual collections, I would try:
anything by Sara Teasdale
Devotions / Wild Geese / Felicity by Mary Oliver
Selected Poems and Prose by Christina Rossetti
Collected Poems by Langston Hughes
Where the Sidewalk Endsby Shel Silverstein
Morning Haiku by Sonia Sanchez
Revolutionary Letters, Diane di Prima
Concerning the Book That Is the Body of the Beloved by Gregory Orr
Rose: Poems by Li-Young Lee
A Red Cherry on a White-Tiled Floor / Barefoot Souls by Maram al-Masri
Deaf Republic by Ilya Kaminsky
Tell Me: Poems / What is This Thing Called Love? by Kim Addonizio
The Trouble with Poetry by Billy Collins (Billy Collins is THE go-to for accessible / beginner poetry in my view so I think any of his collections would probably do)
Crush by Richard Siken
Rapture / The World's Wife by Carol Ann Duffy
The War Works Hard by Dunya Mikhail
Selected Poems by Walt Whitman
View with a Grain of Sand by Wislawa Szymborska
Collected Poems by Vasko Popa
Under Milkwood by Dylan Thomas (this is a play, but Thomas is a poet and the language & structure is definitely poetic to me)
Bright Dead Things: Poems by Ada Limón
Teaching My Mother How to Give Birth by Warsan Shire,
Nostalgia, My Enemy: Selected Poems by Saadi Youssef
As for individual poems:
“Wild Geese” by Mary Oliver
[Dear The Vatican] erasure poem by Pádraig Ó'Tuama // "The Pedagogy of Conflict"
"Good Bones" by Maggie Smith
"The Author Writes the First Draft of His Weddings Vows (An erasure of Virginia Woolf's suicide letter to her husband, Leonard)" by Hanif Abdurraqib
"I Can Tell You a Story" by Chuck Carlise
"The Sciences Sing a Lullabye" by Albert Goldbarth

“The Leash” // “Love Poem with Apologies for My Appearance” // "Downhearted" by Ada Limón
“The Flea” by John Donne
"The Last Rose of Summer" by Thomas Moore
"Beauty" // "Please don't" // "How it Adds Up" by Tony Hoagland
“My Friend Yeshi” by Alice Walker
"De Humanis Corporis Fabrica"byJohn Burnside
“What Do Women Want?” // “For Desire” // "Stolen Moments" // "The Numbers" by Kim Addonizio

"Down by the Salley Gardens” // “The Stolen Child” by W.B. Yeats
"The Thing Is" by Ellen Bass
"The Last Love Letter from an Entymologist" by Jared Singer
"[i like my body when it is with your]" by e.e. cummings
"Try to Praise the Mutilated World" by Adam Zagajewski
"The Cinnamon Peeler" by Michael Ondaatje
"Last Night I Dreamed I Made Myself" by Paige Lewis
"A Dream Within a Dream" // "The Raven" by Edgar Allan Poe (highly recommend reading the last one out loud or listening to it recited)
"Ars Poetica?" // "Encounter" // "A Song on the End of the World"by Czeslaw Milosz
"Wandering Around an Albequerque Airport Terminal” // "Two Countries” // "Kindness” by Naoimi Shihab Nye
"Slow Dance” by Matthew Dickman
"The Archipelago of Kisses" // "The Quiet World" by Jeffrey McDaniel
"Mimesis" by Fady Joudah
"The Great Fires" // "The Forgotten Dialect of the Heart" // "Failing and Flying" by Jack Gilbert
"The Mermaid" // "Virtuosi" by Lisel Mueller
"Macrophobia (Fear of Waiting)" by Jamaal May
"Someday I'll Love Ocean Vuong" by Ocean Vuong
"Still I Rise" by Maya Angelou
I would also recommend spending some times with essays, interviews, or other non-fiction, creative or otherwise (especially by other poets) if you want to broaden and improve how you read poetry; they can help give you a wider idea of the landscape behind and beyond the actual poems themselves, or even just let you acquaint yourself with how particular writers see and describe things in the world around them. The following are some of my favourites:
Upstream: Essays by Mary Oliver
"Theory and Play of the Duende" by Federico García Lorca
"The White Bird" and "Some Notes on Song" by John Berger
In That Great River: A Notebook by Anna Kamienska
A Little Devil in America: Notes in Praise of Black Performance by Hanif Abdurraqib
The Book of Delights by Ross Gay
"Of Strangeness That Wakes Us" and "Still Dancing: An Interview with Ilya Kaminsky" by Ilya Kaminsky
"The Sentence is a Lonely Place" by Garielle Lutz
Still Life with Oysters and Lemon by Mark Doty
Paris, When It's Naked by Etel Adnan

"I LOVED THAT SHOW"
I wore my How to Dance in Ohio hoodie to church today. It's Palm Sunday and we did our customary palm procession from Duffy Square into the building, which is nice and all except winter decided to come back and bite my skin off again...so that sweatshirt seemed like the best choice as warm enough for the weather + can fit under my choir robe + won't get swelteringly uncomfortable once we're inside at the service. It did the job. Truly the ultimate transition piece. Get yours today while supplies last.
At fellowship afterwards, someone from the congregation that I didn't know--she's only in NYC part of the year--pointed out my sweatshirt and said "I LOVED THAT SHOW!"
It took her a moment to recognize me (she initially confused me for Madison, which, yeah that happens, I'll never be mad about it), and we had a lovely chat about the show. And what I noticed after walking away was...the subject of autism, or me being autistic, didn't come up at all.
I love and cherish the advocacy aspect of my work on HTDIO. I love and cherish the opportunity it gave me to be the autistic representation I wished I'd had growing up. But I have to say, it was SO nice to have someone, a total stranger, talking about the show and loving the show independent of The Autism Part.
It was wonderful being part of discussions about diverse representation, and I will never turn down opportunities to eagerly participate in those conversations. But I really wanted us to stick around long enough that the "novelty" aspect of "autistic characters played by autistic actors" (or even "canonically nonbinary/genderqueer characters") would wear off sufficiently for more people, so they could focus on the story and the characters and the music and all the other things that make our show great irrespective of the Representation aspect.
I've had a ROUGH few weeks, y'all. Truthfully, I've been going through one of the worst depressive episodes of my life. Aside from the obvious grief factor and logistical stressors, it turns out that post-operative depression is absolutely a thing. While I'd like to think I'm cognitively and emotionally mature enough to handle this level of change, especially considering how lucky I am to have robust support systems in family, friends, and healthcare practitioners, my very autistic nervous system has had a difficult time letting the sympathetic part cooperate with the parasympathetic part. So I've been a ball of tension, exhaustion, and worst of all, that soul-sucking apathy where nothing seems enjoyable or interesting, but maybe it would be if I had the energy to be interested.
It's helped to find a great physical therapy clinic that is giving me comprehensive, multi-pronged care and NOT charging me copays (because apparently my insurance pays them excellently--thank you, Equity-League and Cigna). It's helped that I got back in touch with a therapist I had seen years ago on BetterHelp (she's since left the platform and honestly, GOOD FOR HER). It's helped that I have parents with the means to help me out financially--and, crucially, the means to keep me accountable without resorting to pressure and guilt-tripping. It's helped to still live in a city where financial assistance isn't excruciatingly hard to come by if all else fails (at least compared to other states). It's helped to have agents submitting me for tons of exciting projects, and having several cabarets and readings to look forward to in this time of transition. It's helped to have a really chill, supportive church community keeping me spiritually grounded without buying into the yt American evangelical toxicity. It's helped to have my cats.
But sometimes, what makes me the happiest of all, is hearing "I LOVED THAT SHOW!"
I'll never not be proud to be known for How to Dance in Ohio and everything we stood for. I'm proud that the love was real, and the quality of the material reflected and reverberated that love. I'm proud of the representation aspect, and I'm proud that it wasn't just about that. And people who saw it, saw all of that.
It's so comforting to know that we shared this show with enough people that it's going to continue to matter.
People aren't going to forget.
I love that for us.
By the way, it was too cold to really show it off, but this is the shirt I wore underneath the sweatshirt. :)

Thoughts about Xavier and Wednesday. I just can't stop thinking of these two.
This is a post about shipping Xavier and Wednesday. Every word and opinion is my own, so if you don't like the ship of Xavier and Wednesday or whatever, just kindly scroll away.
Thanks.
It was 4 in the morning when I wrote this blog after I had rested for a long time, and didn't post anything on this account.
I didn't sleep all night because, at the moment writing this blog, I had just finished watching Wednesday the Netflix series. To be honest, this show is so good and everything is so perfect.
I wanna talk about the relationship between Wednesday and Xavier.
Yeah, I know, Wednesday is supposed to be 'alone' and shouldn't be interested in any romantic relationship (if you know what I'm talking about.)
Me too, I think it's a bit weird for Wednesday to have a romantic relationship with someone because just as Goody told her, "The path of a Raven is a solitary one." She definitely will meet new friends, companions and buddies during her journey, but at the end of her journey, Wednesday will be the only one who arrived at her own terminal bus station, or perhaps, a train station sounds more suitable for her.
I don't even know the reason why I ship Xavier and Wednesday, maybe it's because of the eyes of Jenna who portrays Wednesday and the way how Percy Hynes Whiten aka Xavier look at Wednesday.
I found sorrow, or misery in Xavier's eyes, maybe because he knew Wednesday will never really care about him, but he still manage to fall for her again and again, even though he got rejected so many times. Xavier is like a top tying on Wednesday's neck, whenever she got too far, Xavier will be the one to pull her back to the shore. Of course, Wednesday will do the same for Xavier.
I never expect a romance story between Xavier and Wednesday, even a bit of a platonic story, I never really imagine it. In my mind, Xavier will be Wednesday's private painter, he will be the one painting a portrait of how Wednesday looks in his eyes, and this portrait will be used at Wednesday's funeral.
Let me tell you how I imagine their story in adulthood in my own way:
Xavier and Wednesday still remain in contact even though they graduated from Evermore, but not the kind of normal contact we thought. Xavier will draw Wednesday a portrait of her every birthday so that she can put it on her own funeral.
Xavier will keep falling for Wednesday again and again, and Wednesday will keep turning him down again and again. This becomes a thing between them.
---
You know, Wednesday will never be Morticia. I mean I never imagine Wednesday's love life story the way how I adore the relationship between Morticia and Gomez. I think the relationship thing in Addams' Family is a very unique topic.
So, when Xavier and Wednesday pop up, they click me.
I don't know how to explain, like.......
They love like a couple of old friends and they kill like a couple of old friends.
I think the music 'Solas by Jame Duffy' pretty much sums up my opinions about shipping Xavier and Wednesday. If you go to listen to this song, maybe you will know my feeling. The vibe from this song is so Xavier and Wednesday.
That's it, have a good day.

Suitors: Kieran Duffy X Male Reader
Tumblr media
Pronouns: he/him, Reader referred to as ‘boy’, ‘lad’ and ‘man’ Physical Sex: None Mentioned Rating: T/Language Warnings: Sean is a bully, Bill is gay (cannon, literally just talk to him it’s so obvious), Kieran has game but he doesn’t know it, Reader and Bill are besties, this one is silly and messy but it’s fun Summary: Sean attempts to mess with Kieran by flirting with you, but you put him in his place with help from your best friend Bill.
Kieran has been working hard ever since the Van Der Lindes let him off of the tree. He enjoys working with the horses, but it’s grueling. Whatever free time he has is filled with torment from whatever Van Der Linde happens to be closest. Bill will invite him to drink on occasion, but after that incident with the tongs Kieran would rather keep his distance. It’s Sean that seems to seek him out for mild torture. He’s headbut him, threatened him, generally been cruel. But when the Irishman found out about Kieran’s little crush on you, it got worse.
You aren’t sweet on Sean by any means, you hardly talk to him. Most of your time is spent with Molly, listening to her drone about Dutch, or with Bill on jobs. But now Sean seeks you out, so long as Kieran can see. In an attempt to escape Sean, Kieran accepted Bill’s invitation to sit by the fire. Bill has been trying to be nicer, gesturing for Kieran to sit on the crate next to him and handing him a beer. Kieran takes the bottle and gives Bill a small smile, sitting on the edge of his seat given how he met the man he’s sitting with.
“Come on, lad!” Sean laughs. “Admit it! You’re in love with me!”
Kieran looks up to see you and Sean by Pearson’s cart, getting dinner for the night.
“You’ve been following me all day, Sean, and I only find you more annoying.”
“Come on now.” Sean says, following you towards the fire. “I’m a good, honest son a’ the soil.”
“Shut up, Sean.” You sigh, taking a seat on the log.
“He been followin’ ya all day?” Bill leans over to ask.
“Unfortunately.”
“Oh, you’ll fall for me.” Sean laughs, settling in next to you. “Everybody does.”
“Ain’t that what ya said ta Miss Tilly?” Bill asks.
You nod. “And Mary-Beth?”
“Oh, shut it, ya sorry sods.”
“Take your own advice.” You say, eating a spoonful of stew.
Bill laughs at that, miming a cheers to you with his beer bottle. Kieran smiles to himself, taking a sip from his own bottle.
“What’re you smirkin’ at, O’Driscoll?” Sean mocks.
“He’s not an O’Driscoll, Sean.” You sigh, having said it a hundred times.
Sean turns to you. “How’re we ta know he’s not still workin’ for Colom?”
“It’s Colm.” You say, putting your bowl down.
“It’s Colom.”
“He’s right.” Kieran says quietly. “It’s Colm.”
“It’s Irish, it’s Colom. We’ve had this little chat before, O’Driscoll.”
“Half the people here are Irish, Sean. They all say Colm.” You look at Kieran. “Does he say Colm or Colom?”
“Colm.” Kieran says.
“Good. Shut up, Sean.”
Sean groans. “You’re seriously sidin’ with the O’Driscoll over me?”
“I am.” Bill mutters.
“Unbelievable.” Sean says.
“He’s nicer than ya.” Bill argues. “Quiet too.”
“Come to think of it,” You look at Sean, knowing this will hurt him. “You’re Micah, just louder.”
“I am not!”
Bill laughs again, clutching his stomach because it’s more boisterous this time. Kieran smiles to himself again, careful to hide it this time.
“You’re comparin’ me ta that arse?” Sean stands, offended.
“Does that upset you?” You ask.
“You’re damn right it does!”
“Then yes, absolutely.”
“I ain’t nothin’ like him!”
You sigh. “Apologize to Kieran then.”
Kieran looks up at you as you stare Sean down.
“What?” Sean asks, screwing his face in confusion.
“You’ve been nothing but mean to him. Apologize.” You gesture to Kieran. “Micah would never do that.”
Kieran looks up again, avoiding Sean and focusing on you. Next to him, Bill finally has gotten his laughter under control and pats Kieran on the back.
Sean turns to Kieran. “Sorry, O’Driscoll.”
“Try again.” You shake your head.
Bill chuckles. “Like ya mean it!”
Kieran’s cheeks have turned pink from the embarrassment and attention.
Sean groans. “What’s he done to deserve my gratitude?”
“He’s been helpin’ us track Colm.” Bill says, making sure to say the American pronunciation.
“I take care a’ Ennis.” Kieran mutters.
You smile at Kieran. “That’s right. Your horse likes him, Sean. Why not you?”
Sean kicks his foot at the ground like a bored toddler and sighs. “Fine, fine.”
“Go on then.” You gesture to Kieran. “Apologize.”
“If it’ll make ya happy, love.” Sean faces Kieran. “I am truly sorry.”
Bill cheers, clapping Kieran on the back. “Ain’t that nice.”
“Ya in love with me now?” Sean asks, turning back to you.
“Shut up, Sean.”
He grins. “I’m warmin’ up to ya, I can tell these things, love.”
Sean walks off, claiming a victory with his own delusion.
“Okay, okay.” Bill leans forward in his seat, glancing between you and Kieran. “Now when are ya gettin’ together. I don’t wanna miss Sean’s fit.”
“What?” Kieran asks, a bit of a crack in his voice.
“I, uh, I didn’t tell him yet, Bill.”
“Oh, shit.” Bill exclaims. “I’m sorry, boys.”
“Tell me what?” Kieran asks.
“That I’m sweet on ya.” You lean forward to poke the fire with a stick as Kieran’s face flushes again. “Bill is too.”
“No I ain’t!” Bill argues.
“Bullshit, Bill. Look at you.”
Kieran looks between you two as you argue. He knows you’re good friends with Bill. This might be a common occurrence.
“I ain’t the one talkin’ about him like he’s some greek god!” Bill yells.
“That’s Mary-Beth, not me.”
“What?” Kieran asks again.
Bill laughs at that. “Sorry, Kieran, I ain’t so good at secrets.”
You laugh a little too. “You have a lot of people that’re sweet on you, Kieran.”
Kieran grips his beer bottle a little tighter as he takes in the information. “I do?”
Bill blushes a little. “Sure ya do.”
“Aren’t you two cute.” You muse.
“Shut up.” Bill mutters.
“Bill’s easy to fall, not so easy to admit it.” You say. “What was that guy from the saloon in Blackwater? Chris, Clyde?”
“Clark.” Bill sighs.
“Right.” You nod.
“So, you’re both sweet on me?” Kieran asks.
“He is more than me.” Bill says, taking a long drink of beer.
You chuckle, looking at the ground to hide the love-sick look on your face.
“I think I’ll leave ya to it.” Bill says after he finishes his bottle. “Just let me know when ya think Sean’ll throw a fit again.”
Before you can stop him, Bill is off towards the crate of beer to grab another and wander around. You turn to Kieran and give him a small smile. “Sorry about, uh, that.”
Kieran’s face is a solid pink and he can’t look you in the eyes. “It’s, uh, it’s alright, Mister.”
“You don’t have to call me Mister.”
“W-Were you tellin’ the truth?” Kieran asks, his eyebrows knitted in confusion. “About all that?”
You nod. “Yeah, all of it.”
Kieran chuckles lightly. “I didn’t take Bill fer the type.”
“It’s obvious once you spend some time with him.”
“Time with him?” Kieran asks.
You shake your head. “Not like that. He’s just my friend, Kieran.”
Kieran nods, looking back at the ground.
“Oh, for Christ’s sake!” Bill yells, stomping over. “You’re sweet on each other! Sit together, stare, kiss, somethin’!”
You laugh as you stand, taking Bill's former seat next to Kieran. “Happy, Bill?”
“You frustrate me.” He grumbles, stomping away.
“Is he, uh, he always like that?” Kieran asks, a small smile on his face.
“Usually.” You laugh. “He’s a sweetheart, I promise.”
“When he’s not torturin’ a feller?” Kieran laughs lightly.
“Exactly.” You smile, holding your hand out. “He’ll come yell at us again if we don’t do something. He’s been waiting for me to tell you for weeks now.”
Kieran grins as he takes your hand. “Ya sweet on me that long?”
“Sure.” You nod. “And I know Sean was flirting with me to mess with you.”
Kieran looks down, hiding his smile. You squeeze his hand a little tighter and look over to Bill. He gives you a thumbs up and takes another swig of beer. It’s not how you intended to tell Kieran, but nothing ever goes according to plan as a Van Der Linde.

Earlier I was thinking about Sandra to distract from being sad about Teddy but then I rewatched her and Andy’s scenes from the Shades of Love/Cry for Help/Anaconda/Lifelines set of episodes and now I’m sad about her too.
They foreshadowed her death the episode before, they bring in a young woman who dies (killed by her boyfriend's wife) and she gets very stuck on it and tells Andy that she's wondering whether she'd leave behind anything worth remembering about her. Cry for Help says that 'yes, there are things worth remembering about Sandra Mute' but Anaconda and Lifelines follow that with 'it's easier for the people who knew her to keep going if they choose not to remember'. People are already moving on in Anaconda. By the goodbye party for Andy at the end of Lifelines, she's been forgotten.
The main person who remembers her in those episodes is Andy but she's remembered in faceless young women he doesn't have it in him to treat because they all look like Sandra to him. Even he's moving on, he just has to choose to, while everyone else seems to be able to do it naturally. He chooses to leave the job, he chooses to try and fix things with his wife again. There's a really sad moment after her memorial where he just stands outside the church, looking at the ambulance station while all the other paramedics go back to work.
Another moment that got me after the memorial is when Duffy asks Susie to go shopping to cheer them up - Sandra had been their friend and now they will have to get on with the rest of their lives and she can't.
When people do remember her so much of it is about her relationship with Andy, which she had finally decided she didn't want anymore right before she was stabbed :( At the same time, I can't stop thinking about how the first thing we ever see Andy say to his wife is "darling" and then, for the first and only time, he also says it to Sandra while they're bringing her into the hospital (but she's already unconscious by then).
Sandra had to die, not even because the plot demanded it, just... Casualty required it to keep things moving. I don't think it's entirely her death that allowed Casualty to last longer than two series, the writing did start to get better around when she died and that's definitely the main thing that kept it going. But her death was a sign of that good writing - Cry for Help's Sandra/Andy scenes are entirely brilliant, 'Casualty at it's best' scenes. She had to die, but it's still so sad to me how quickly she disappeared.
Ugh, Casualty, stop making me miserable with your paramedics.

I didn't want to come back here but I'm curious about something. I've seen at least 3 people saying that ALW asked John Owen-Jones to do the 25th concert and he REFUSED!? Do you know anything about that? If it is true, it was the dumbest thing JOJ could have done. How do you turn down an once in a lifetime chance like that? Apparently he wanted to do Les Mis which he ended up not being cast for either. ALW worships sierra (which I will never understand why, she's extremely overrated) but implying he really wanted JOJ do you think he would have cast Gina Beck or Katie Hall with him?
Frankly, I have absolutely no idea what was said off the record for this casting. There's ever only been comments on the ones that DID get cast, and how they were cast. It seems ALW got to choose some, and CamMack got to choose some. I don't know if all links are still accessible, as this is copied from a post I did some 10 years ago, but anyhow:
Ramin Karimloo was invited by Cameron Mackintosh and Sierra Boggess by ALW: “I’m in heaven because I love the show and the character so much,” said Boggess, who was personally tapped by composer Andrew Lloyd Webber to star in the anniversary event“ Hadley Fraser was a noticeable Javert in Cameron’s Les Mis at the time, and also best buddy with Ramin, so I’m guessing the way was short from there. Kiera Duffy was discovered through a production of Candide and asked to audition through video. They wanted a legit opera singer for the part, and she was offered the part after a video audition:
“Cameron Mackintosh’s office contacted my management, who in turn contacted me, in early August asking if I might be interested in the project. (...) I received an email from Mackintosh’s office saying they were very impressed by my dedication and chutzpah, and I got offered the role. What a whirlwind! I couldn’t believe it!"
Fate wanted it that she had to bow out some days before the concerts due to voice issues, making current West End Carlotta Wendy Ferguson take over. But Duffy was the original casting chouce. Wynne Evans was noticed in the popular “Go Compare” commercials in the UK, where he played an Italian tenor. To mention some.
I always assumed they WANTED to feature Ramin Karimloo and Sierra Boggess along with Liz Robertson to keep the link to Love Never Dies. All three came directly from the just-closed West End production of LND. Note too how Hadley Fraser's Raoul was more in the vein of LND than a classic Hal Prince Raoul, pushing the aggressive and colder side of Raoul.
Another aspect is that rehearsals for RAH took place when the original production was performing as usual at Her Majesty's Theatre, and I don't think we should forget that John Owen-Jones was principal Phantom there. It would of course be possible to have someone fill in for him while he did RAH, just they they did for Ramin when he rehearsed for LND. In this it should also be mentioned that Barry James (Firmin) did both Her Majesty's Theatre and RAH, and so did Wendy Ferguson (Carlotta) if more as an emergency cover. But I suspect JOJ's heart was more with the original than then hybrid version at RAH. Just a personal guess, however.
All in all, JOJ is the only person who could properly answer this question, and if he has not said anything all speculations are just that - speculations. I also think I heard he was standby Phantom for the RAH concerts, in case Ramin Karimloo got sick or injured? At least I heard back in the days that the West End principals was functioning as standbys for RAH, and they were also present in cameo roles during the show.
Another thing... I frankly love Sierra Boggess as Christine. Even if the SoMe responsibles has gone utterly bananas every time she played the role (and it drove me nuts), and even if I can't stand all the ones telling me SIERRA IS THE BEST CHRISTINE EVER... I love her in the role. Beautiful voice, sympathetic portrayal, good dancer, looking like a million dollar - she is a gorgeous Christine. No more, no less.
What I do agree with, however, is that people would have said "...IS THE BEST CHRISTINE EVER" about probably anyone starring as Christine in the RAH concert, as long as they sung well and looked good. If Gina Beck was featured she would be a sensation. Ditto for Katie Hall. They would simply be the most available Christine out there for the majority, and thus getting a big fanbase.

ayo … i’m on a poetry high and basically devouring every poetry website i can find and i’m still looking for new stuff. so please drop ur fave poets/poems 🙏🙏 or even ur fave poem u wrote urself i’m starved
omg aaaahhh i love questions about poetry and i'm always delighted to hear when people go on a poetry high (and that it's still very much alive)! unfortunately i read most of my poetry off books that i thrifted, but Poetry Foundation is a pretty reliable archive and fairly easy to navigate if you have a name in mind :) i also really enjoy the stuff curated on @secretchords_apoemfortheday and @apoemaday, and if i have a specific author/anthology i'm looking for i usually just try my luck with online PDFs.
in terms of specific recommendations, the following is a little list of mine (with links included!):
Louise Glück (who recently passed away, but left behind a very lasting legacy. A Summer Garden is marvelous; a field of stars.)
Mary Oliver (The Summer Day is one of my personal all-time favourites!)
e.e. cummings (i carry your heart with me(i carry it in) is a timeless classic)
Robert Frost (Nothing Gold Can Stay is especially apt for the fall!)
William Blake (The Tyger is terribly royai-coded lol)
Pablo Neruda (love is so short / forgetting is so long)
Frank O'Hara (Lunch Poems)
W.H. Auden (if equal affection cannot be / let the more loving one be me)
Richard Siken (Crush)
Carol Ann Duffy (there you are on the bed / like a gift, like a touchable dream)
Sylvia Plath (not technically poetry, and I know Plath has lamented her prose on multiple occasions, but The Bell Jar is easily one of my favourite novels and reads like a poem--the imagery is so visceral and gripping, and the overarching metaphor of a bell jar is just insane)
Ilya Kaminsky (Deaf Republic)
Mark Nepo (how the heart makes a duet of wonder and grief)
my own poems are generally marked #poetry on my tumblr page (although the tags are frustratingly uncooperative most of the time...). some of my favourite poems i wrote are:
the diametrics of dialogue (conversations with you) -- this is a deeply personal piece which i recently had the privilege of reading in new york thanks to the phenomenal @mirabile---visu, and i will cherish it dearly always :)
honeypot
when creation creates
an anthem for youth undoomed
America and the moon
queenfish
remember, beloved
we lived in a state
love crept through the garden gate (in the process of turning this into a song!)
magnum opus and the queen of hearts will always have a special place in my heart as well because they were the first ones that got published online :)
enjoy, lovely (and welcome to the wonderful star-eaten world of poetry)! <3

IN THE GHETTO
Chapter 22
Warning: Smut
Tumblr media
“I’m ready to get outta this damn snow!” You complained.
“There’s a lot of things I can do dear girl, but changing the weather is not one of them” Dutch explained.
You could hear Abigail begging Arthur to go and look for John.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if Micah killed him before he got back here” you half joked.
“You got a problem with me girl?” Micah threatened.
“Yea I do-“
“Well no one gives two shits about you bitchin’ and moanin’ about whatever it is you bitch and moan about behind my back”
“You watch your damn mouth!” Arthur growled.
“Woah there cowpoke. Just because you’re fucking her don’t mean you gotta get aggressive”
“The nerve of all three of you!” Hosea yelled. “One of our members are stuck out there and we need to bring them back. Y/n and Arthur you go with Javier to retrieve John. Micah sit down and leave everyone alone”
“Hey to be fair that bitch came at me first. If she never said anything we wouldn’t have a problem” Micah put his hands up.
You went to lung at him but Arthur held you back and dragged you outside with Javier behind.
“Some morning huh?” He chuckled.
“Exactly! It’s literally 7 in the morning! The day just started and he’s already starting shit”
-
“This way. Last I know, John was headed up the river” Javier lead.
You guys made it up a mountain and started calling for him.
Not long after you found John on a ledge.
“Little John” you greeted him.
“Look can you just make fun of me later so we can get the hell outta here?”
You and Javier helped John onto Arthur’s shoulder and walked to the horses.
From the corner of your eyes you could notice a pack of wolves coming down the mountain.
“I got it” you took out your shotgun and shot the wolves while the boys got John on a horse.
“Y’know John we ought a put a whistle on you for whenever you get lost from the gang” you joke.
“Or when you try to run away again” Arthur includes.
“Y’all will never let me live that down will you?”
“It was a dick move John”
“And I apologized for it. Besides didn’t you say you two would work on each other?” John referred to you and Arthur working on your relationship.
“Just go to sleep Marston”
Blackwater
“Josiah Trelawny” you greeted Trelwany who was laying on his stomach looking at the prison in front of him. A few of us were in blackwater now ready to get Sean back.
“Ike skelding’s boys are moving him to a camp nearby”
You all came up with a plan to just go to the camp and get Sean while Josiah makes a distraction.
“How’s the family Josiah?” Arthur asked.
“Not too bad. What about you? We’re around the same age yet you’re not even married”
“Well I guess there’s a time for everything”
Josiah went down to make his distraction while you, Arthur and Javier went up the mountain taking out the guards.
Finally you got to Sean Maguire. You cut him loose and untied his hands.
“Miss y/n. Still as pretty as a picture”
“Oh don’t let Molly hear you say that”
“But it’s true. Or are you just saying that because Charles is here and you don’t want to make him jealous” Sean was aware of your past relationship because the girls in the gang love to gossip “was it Charles or Arthur? I always get them mixed up”
“Sean there’s nothing that means more to me than this gang. It’s the realest thing to me. I would kill for it and I would happily die for it” Arthur put his hand on the young man’s shoulder “but I would’ve left you here to rot if Charles hadn’t stopped me”
“I don’t believe a word of that”
Then Sean just went on about how Arthur was a good man. Of course Arthur denied it. You hated how Arthur would talk to himself sometimes it really made you upset because of how much he meant to you.
“Alright you all go on back to camp. Me and y/n will catch up” Arthur sent them.
“Come on Arthur what are we doing harboring an O’Driscoll?” You demanded to know why Arthur had bring back an O’Driscoll boy named Kieran Duffy “and to put more salt in the wound, our newest girl hates O’Driscolls”
“Well that’s great maybe you and her can play pin the donkey with him”
“Pin the donkey?”
“Yea. Y’know cause he’s Irish and you can pin him with a knife- oh forget it”
“No Arthur it was just a bad pun. If you can even call it that”
“It wasn’t bad you just need everything to be explained to you”
Back at camp
Sean was finally back and everything was the same again. He was telling some stupid joke that didn’t even make sense but you didn’t care. Sean was naturally funny and that’s why you enjoyed having him around.
Everyone was having a good time and you saw Javier sitting at a table writing something.
“What’s that Javier?”
“Nothing!”
You looked and saw a quick glance of his paper. All the words were written in Spanish but you saw Tilly’s name a few times.
“Are you writing about Tilly”
“Hey” he looked around “let’s just keep this between us ok?”
“Oh my god you’re writing poetry? I never knew you were sweet on her”
“No one can know. It’s already embarrassing enough”
“Let me help you. I’ll go tell her to give you a chance right now”
“No!” He grabbed your arm “you can’t say anything especially to her. Promise me”
“Ok fine” you stuck your pinky out.
“I don’t get it what’s with the pinky?”
“You’re supposed to link yours with mine. To seal a promise”
“Must be an American thing” he shrugged and linked his pinky with yours.
“But I won’t forget about this. We’ll talk later”
You got up to look for Arthur. You haven’t seen him the whole night. You just found him in his cot writing in his journal as usual.
Before the Blackwater incident, Mary-Beth had suggested Arthur try journaling since he didn’t like talking about his problems he could just write them down.
“Arthur” you made your presence known.
“Hey I’m just finishing up” you looked to see him drawing a picture of a wolf. Identical to the one we saw on the mountain.
“I don’t know how you’re so good at this”
“Me neither. But it’s really calming” he closed his book and set it aside.
“You really think we could make it back to blackwater and get that money?”
“Hell no. But lord knows Dutch won’t dare forget about it. I just wish I could’ve saved a little some of it for the gang”
“It’s not just your fault we were all there”
“No I should’ve done something. I don’t know… nowadays I just kinda feel useless. You know how back in the day I used to be this gang’s most useful asset. Now I’m like a firefighter helping people get outta mess”
“It’s not like that. People just trust you is all”
“You even heard Josiah. I ain’t married yet. Do you think.. maybe we’ve been wasting our lives with this?” He said referring to the gang.
“No. I mean we’re all a family and we have each other. You don’t have to marry people to live your life. And that’s coming from a woman”
“There’s just this clock inside me that’s been ticking ever since. Like I need to discover something soon”
You stopped him and kissed him on the lips.
He looked at you in the eyes and you stared back.
He grabbed your jaw and kissed you this time.
“I could feel a clock ticking too. I’m done beating around the bush with you Arthur”
You slammed your lips on his again.
“Let’s go someplace else”
He led you into the forest away from the party.
You walked to a tree and leaned your back against it. Arthur stared at you like you were his meal and walked slowly towards you.
He grabbed your hips and pulled them to his and he began softly kissing your neck.
“I missed this. I missed you so much”
He pulled took off his jacket and laid it on the floor for you to lay on. He climbed on top of you and kissed you once again and grabbed your hand.
“I don’t want you to think about Charles” he whispered from the crook of your neck.
“What?”
“When I’m making love to you. I want you to forget how Charles ever did it”
“Me and Charles never had sex”he lifted his head to look at you “you’re the only man who’s ever touched me Arthur”
This made Arthur incredibly happy. He would literally be kept up at night thinking about the chance that Charles probably had you but he didn’t. “Me and Mary never did it either” he explained.
“I’m so glad”
You kissed him again and he pulled your dress up and you ran your fingers through his hair.
He unbuckled his belt and pulled down his pants just a bit to release his already growing member.
He aligned himself with you and you squeezed his hand. He pushed himself in and you both moaned at the same time.
“Oh Arthur I-“
Arthur couldn’t get his own words out neither. It’s been too long without each other.
Your body automatically knew how to respond to his. It’s like everything about him was engraved into your genetic code or something. His smell was everywhere. The noises he made filled your ears. The way he touched you sent shivers down your spine and all over.
He continued thrusting into your hot pussy and he finally was able to construct a conceivable phrase.
“I love you y/n. I really love you”
“I lov- I-“ you couldn’t even get it out before your orgasm came crashing down on you.
Arthur was not far behind.
You two were just laying there catching your breaths. He laid his forehead on yours and closed his eyes with his dick still deep inside of you. Cum spilling out of your pussy you didn’t care.
“Hey when was the last time you came before me?”
Your joke caused y’all to laugh and Arthur pulled you on top of him.
“Why are we such fools?” He whispered.
“We were just young”
“We’re you really in love with me back then?”
You took your head off his chest and looked at him.
“I loved you ever since that day we spent at the camp alone. I never stopped since then”
“I loved you ever since I saw you dance in that bar” you smacked his chest. “What I’m being honest”
“Let’s just stop fooling around and making ourselves miserable”
Arthur kissed your forehead again and began to sit up.
“I really don’t want the rest teasing us when we get back. Let’s hurry now”

hi i’m stealing this idea from @idonthaveanyurlideas but!!! do you like blaseball??? do you like interactive fiction/games?? do you not like blaseball but like very coolly formatted stories about grief and lose and regret?? well let me introduce you to my ✨blaseball twines✨ (and one bitsy):
run from me and rip me open was written in the immediate aftermath of season 18, and follows justice spoon in the lead up to her second alteration. jumping between past and present, you’re given a glimpse of the worlds that built her– and all that she has to lose. (6k, cws: fire, death by fire/incineration, description of drowning, death, grief/mourning, panic attacks)
ablaze with all the people you’ve been is a magnum opus of sorts; we get a look at several possible pasts and futures of edric tosser that never came to be as he’s trapped in the hazy in between of the hall and the black hole. it’s a story about his grief, and how he copes with it (or doesn’t) and is still one of my favourite things i’ve made despite being a full year old at this point. (35k, overall cws: unreality, death, swearing, smoking, grief)
cards fall where they may is a tarot themed trio of blaseball stories, centring on morrow doyle, peanutiel duffy, and gerund pantheocide respectively. i learned css during this one and you can tell!!! so if you just want to see some cool ass formatting, this one’s for you lol. it’s also full of so much heart, and i’m very proud of it. (12k, Overall CWs: Minor flickering/animation/eyestrain, Unreality, Death/Incineration, Swearing)
what might have been lost (don’t bother me) is a fairly short twine i made for my beloved @tigerquoii as part of the FFs fic exchange!! it’s about baby triumphant, complicated sibling relationships, and new beginnings. simple, but sweet! (3k, CWs: brief mentions of drowning and burns, swearing, fire)
the end is near is a short bitsy i made for crabjam2022, a sort of soliloquy about the end of the universe. while not quite a blb piece, you can absolutely see bits and pieces of s24 in there, and i think it’s a lovely little ode to the feelings that season invoked.
and so concludes the roundup of the stara david (non)cinematic blaseball games universe! if any of these descriptions piqued your interests, take a look and happy fall ball!!!!

Do you have any fave LGBTQ+ literature, tv, movies, content creators?
Okay so I'm still trying really hard to find queer books that I like because beyond Allen Ginsburg in college we weren't taught any LGBTQ+ authors/poets (except Carol Ann Duffy but the only thing I'd recommend about her work is to stay away because I hate it haha)(I probably hate it because of school tbh, sorry Carol) so anyway yeah, when it comes to this I've had to do all the searching myself and I don't really know how well I've done.
But for books:
🍂 Orlando / Virginia Woolf
I kind of can't believe Virginia Woolf wasn't on my other recommendations because The Waves is one of my favourite books (again I think you have to have a lot of patience but it is beautiful) and this one is brilliant too. A man wakes up in a woman's body and gender roles are revealed to be a little bit silly.
🍂 Thérèse and Isabelle / Violet Leduc
Erotic novella about two girls at boarding school, low-key spoke to me as a bi girl who kind of started realising her bisexuality when exploring sexuality was sort of thrust upon me by female friends at school I guess. It's just a good example of feminine sexuality and desire written by someone who knows.
🍂 Chelsea Girls / Eileen Myles
I'm very into Eileen Myles as a poet and these stories are so so so so so fucking good too!!!!
🍂 In The Dream House / Carmen María Machado
I got into this because it's what Google recs when you finish The Dangers of Smoking in Bed / Mariana Enriquez and honestly, I didn't enjoy it as much but it was still amazing. It's gothic horror af but also a really important work on abusive relationships within the queer community which the author has personal experience of and thinks isn't spoken about enough. Its really haunting, did fuck me up a bit but ultimately in a good way. But be careful because it does chronical abuse and that can be upsetting.
🍂 On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous/ Ocean Vuong
Another one where I love their poetry and think they can do no wrong tbh, I haven't finished this yet (I keep getting distracted but don't be put off by that I'm just really easily distracted!!) And I think it's wonderful idk. It's also written in quite a cool style which is always a bonus I find.
🍂 Our Wives Under the Sea / Julia Armfield
I actually only read this because I read an essay on the Exorcist and body horror by the author where she talks about her experience with having a cyst that had to be operated on twice. The essay was so stunning that I was like damn, gonna have to read that book everyone's talking about now and bestie, was worth it. The books class also.
🍂 Sister Outsider / Audre Lorde
I just think everyone should read Audre Lorde, Audre Lorde should have been on the curriculum instead of endless Simon Armitage idk. I read this and Your Silence Will Not Protect You as a 19 year old and they changed the course of my life idk.
🍂 Communion / bell hookes
Read this and broke up with my shitty ex boyfriend. It's not entirely about lesbianism but more kind of, love in general, platonic, romantic, what it really means to love. She talks about the feminist choice to choose lesbianism which was a phenomenon in the 70s and also discusses a lot to do with how misogyny impacts womens ability to love and be loved. It was a really important read for me, made all the more important because when I picked up the book my boyfriend ripped into her name and tried to be like lol what would you read her for...and then I read it and was like oh HE'S the problem.
Poetry:
🐇Howl / Allen Ginsburg
I know he's problematic but for me Howl was the prototype, the first massive poem I read and loved as an adult, the first one where language really sounded musical to me, the first poem I heard that Hurt. If you can you should listen to the YouTube of him reading it in San Francisco, that's amazing.
I also really like A Supermarket in California.
🐇 Sappho
Just all of it I guess, I think we're all eventually pushed towards Sappho and for good reason.
🐇Emily Dickinson
Read her letters to Sue, Open Me Carefully. I read these one summer between school years and I think they changed me. Her poetry in general is wonderful, some of it occasionally comes off as very old fashioned (shock horror our girl was born in the 1800s) but there's much to savour there. Also apparently there's a TV series about her life on Apple TV, I don't have Apple TV though so I haven't seen it.
As for TV and movies I don't think I have anything at all. I don't watch a lot of TV and I mostly only watch the same 5 old man movies on repeat. I think books have always been my thing, I can concentrate on reading in a way I can't concentrate on TV and also just the fact you can put your book in your pocket and get it out on the bus, in the staff room, at school, at the pub when you're waiting for your pals etc... I was always a headphones and books gal so I don't really have any recs for TV. Sorry :/
EDIT: Kill Your Darlings!!!! As in the movie, if you're into the beats you should watch it, it's very good and a real insight into what was in reality a pretty nasty little scene.

Roll down your window and crank up the tunes! This week we're bringing you some of our favorite road trip fics.
Some Basic Principles of Relativity, with Assorted Games and American Landscapes by raedbard | Rated M | Sam Seaborn/Toby Ziegler | Complete | Sam's bright idea is a Senior Staffers' field trip through the beautiful landscapes of New Hampshire. That this isn't going to go at all the way he planned it is hardly his fault. and so it was (we never saw it comin’) by hanyolo | Rated G | Josh Lyman/Donna Moss | Complete | By the time Donna’s second week on the campaign comes to an end she has learnt three crucial things.
Josh’s watch is seven minutes slow.
Presidential campaigns pretty much run on caffeine and adrenaline.
Run everything by C.J..
She’s also learnt that Josh doesn’t have a filter, that he rarely thinks before he speaks and has zero impulse control, that he’s also kind and funny, that his eyes sparkle when he teases her, and that his dimpled grin gives her butterflies.
This morning, she learns that Josh apparently has no qualms about disrupting her weekend.
// campaign era j/d take a road trip
Home of the Badgers by ETraytin | Rated T | No Pairings Listed (Gen Fic) | Complete | Donna went home to Wisconsin to try and patch things up with her boyfriend. That didn't work out, so she and her best friend Stephanie go on a road trip to get Donna back where she really belongs.

Title inspired by the song You're My Best Friend by Queen.

Captain America Issue #5 - The Gruesome Secret of the Dragon of Death!
Tumblr media
So, this issue did have quite a bit of racism, both in (mostly) the art, and also some in the text. I have done my best to edit out the racism. This case actually has a lot going on, but I really wanted to write up this case because it was actually really interesting from the standpoint of Bucky's characterization. There were a couple of cases before this where we got to see Bucky without Cap, but this one definitely did the most for giving us an idea of what Bucky's like on his own, and the answer is.... kinda dark?
This will also be heavy on the panels because there were a lot of good panels in this one.
So this issue can be summed up as Cap goes to Hawaii. But instead of fun and sun, Steve gets sea monsters and volcanos and a very close brush with death.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Man, Sargent Duffy really really hates Steve. Like, you always got the impression that he didn't like Steve, but here he's just being an outright bully.
So, Steve and Bucky are assigned to accompany General Haywood to the naval base on Kunda Island to meet with Commander Philips.
While they are in route to Hawaii, the US navy receives a report that there is a sea dragon in the waters off the coast of one of the islands that is swallowing ships whole. Commander Phillips takes a naval ship out to investigate. Obviously he doesn't believe that a giant sea dragon is swallowing ships, because why would he.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately for Commander Phillips there's a... a giant red sea dragon that swallows ships off the coast of the islands, and his ship gets swallowed.
General Haywood, Steve, and Bucky arrive on the island, and are informed that Commander Phillips' ship was... eaten by a giant red sea dragon.
Steve is like, "Uh, yeah, okay, see, here's a list of things that actually happened, and then there's this, which is a thing that did not actually happen" and he and Bucky duck away because clearly this is a job for Captain America.
Meanwhile, inside the red sea dragon, which is actually a submarine, Commander Phillips is being tortured for his passwords by Captain Okada, the military leader of an "aggressive Asian country". Captain Okada's plan is to drop dynamite into one of the island's volcanos and use it to wipe out the US navy base, and look, I just really feel the need to point out that this issue of Captain America came out on August 1, 1941, which was just over four months /before/ the attack on Pearl Harbor. I don't know, I just find the relationship between history and pop culture to be really interesting.
Commander Phillips' very distraught daughter arrives, and Steve decides to tail her, following some hunch of his. This is lucky for the unnamed daughter, because she's very quickly kidnapped by Okada's men and rowed out to sea in a canoe... which... sure ok, why not.
Steve and Bucky follow in quick pursuit in their own little canoe.
Tumblr media
The red sea dragon predictably appears and swallows the canoe, and then we get one of my absolute favorite sequences between Steve and Bucky.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't know, I just really love that Bucky is like, yeah, we're both totally about to die, but I will follow you absolutely anywhere. Like, at no point does Steve tell Bucky his hunch, or share his plan, and still Bucky is like, "okay, whatever you say."
And I just really love this panel of Steve and Bucky running down the dragon's throat.
Tumblr media
Okay, so inside the dragon/submarine, Captain Okada has given up on torturing Commander Phillips for his passwords, and has decided to torture his daughter instead.
Things get slightly confusing from here, but essentially, Cap and Bucky barge in and save Phillips, but not before Okada escapes with the daughter in this little barge ship thing that's stacked with dynamite. His people have also gotten the dynamite to the volcano (so I guess he didn't need the passwords after all?) and he's going to ram the dynamite barge into the city to prevent anyone from escaping the volcano.
Steve dives off the submarine, and swims over to the barge, where he rescues the daughter, then attempts to steer the barge away from the island before the volcano goes off, in a scene that feels so much like the end of TFA!Steve that it made me feel all mushy inside.
Tumblr media
Bucky and Phillips watch from the observation deck of the dragon/submarine as the volcano goes off, and the barge swerves away from the town at the last possible moment, and then blows up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And this is where things get just a little bit dark for Bucky.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And I'm not a hundred percent sure, but I want to say that this is the first time we've ever seen Bucky kill someone. I mean, even Steve doesn't typically kill the enemy (though he doesn't exactly save them either, if they happen to get killed in the process), but here Bucky outright targets and kills a ship full of people. And this is also, of course, the first time we've ever been led to believe that Steve was killed. I mean, obviously the reader knows he's not actually dead, but they let you sit on that question for just a bit, which, again, this is the first time that's happened.
And yes, Okada's plan was bad, I mean, he was going to kill an entire island of people to get rid of the naval base, but it's really framed that the reason, the entire reason that Bucky does this is because he believes Okada and his men are responsible for Steve's death.
I don't know. I just feel like there's an essay to be written about Bucky, and who he is when he's away from Steve's, I would say, positive influence. And I'd love to talk to Ed Brubaker and ask him about what inspired the Winter Soldier storyline. What was it? What did he see in Bucky? Idk, but I can't wait to see more.
Okay, so Phillips comes up to Bucky and he's like, "I have great news! My daughter is safe! Captain America saved her right before the barge blew up. If only he were still alive so I could thank him." And like, dude. I don't want to say that you're being a little tone deaf here, but come on. Are you kidding me?
And Bucky is like "that's great. So happy for you. I'm just gonna go grieve my best friend now. But that's great." And so Bucky wanders off on his own and then we get our long awaited reunion.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gee -- I -- I -- let's not talk about what happened to Okada's ship.
Anyway, then we're back to my favorite trope

heyyy I feel like this is a wierd ask so if you don't feel up to it that's totally fine but I was wondering if you could do one where the reader is quite childlike in how they act (or maybe just young young in age) and the band are like her brothers so she gets really upset when they have to leave but they come back and suprise her during the tour?
This is so cute anony! This is gonna be platonic, bc I’m making her 17 and the boys are like in the early twenties-mid. I don’t do underage with romance..
I had been on the streets since I was 14, my father beat me and my mother wasn’t around. He said i looked too much like “the bitch who left with him and a stupid kid behind”. One night, he passed out drunk so I packed what I could and busted out. Never seen him since that night.. 3 years on my own, I had to get a fake ID to rent my apartment up from the whiskey a go go.
Being on the strip, I’ve watched bands become huge and making millions. It’s a bittersweet, they grow and leave the strip for Europe. I met Duff when I was 15, working at a diner he stopped in. It was his first night in LA and was scraping by for his food. I let him crash at my place until he got onto his feet. Duff was the sweetest man, I had ever came in contact with and it scared the hell out of me. Thought men were only nice in movies because acting and they had to for the plot. Then I met Axl, he took me under his wing, understood what is like to have an abusive dad. Izzy came along, I have the biggest crush on him still. But nothing will ever happen since I’m a kid still. Slash and Steven were the best friends you could ever have. They’re family and the only thing I got it in life.
They were leaving for tour today for 3 months, the longest 3 months ever! I had made friends with Axl’s girlfriend, Erin but it wasn’t the same. “Please don’t go, Iz”, I said while burying my face into his chest. “I gotta go, I’m sorry bunny”, Izzy kissed my head. “Y/n, we’ll be back in no time, you know?” Slash said. “But I don’t want you guys to leave me again”, I whined. Izzy squeezed harder. Duff was hugging his girlfriend goodbye, Mandy smiled at me. She was nice and told me to call her if I needed anything.
“What’s wrong, peanut?”, Duff asked. “Do you really have to go, Duffy?”, I asked as I latched to see his chest. “Yes, we do. It’s our job, love”, Duff rubbed my back. I whined. “You know you’re not making this any easier on us? You’ll be able to come next time, I asked already”. “Really?” “Mhmm” I looked up at him, “Fine! I love you guys”. “Love you too” they all said and grinned. It had been 2 1/2 months since they were gone. I got to talk to them everyday or once a week, but it wasn’t the same. I couldn’t call or hang out with Mandy everyday. She was busy with her band as well.
“Hey Y/n, get ready! I wanna go to the movies, but I think you’ll like this one as well.”, Mandy said. “Okay give me 20” I put some black jean shorts and a white Cinderella crop top on. “Huh Mandy? The movie theater is the other way” “I didn’t say the one out here, honey”, Mandy continued to drive. “I think murdering me is gonna be a deal breaker for Duff”, I said as she parked. It was Izzy’s old house in Huntington Beach. “Amanda, why are we here? The boys are still on tour for another month”
Someone or something pecked on the window, “Fuck”, I turned around and seen Axl, he moved before I swung the door open. “Ax!” I jumped in his arms. “What are you doing?”, I asked. “Missed you kid” Axl squeezed me before sitting me back down. “I missed you too”, I got teary eyed. I left someone wrap their arms around me, hairy arms actually. Steven. I turned around and hugged him back. “Hi chipmunk.. missed me?”, Steven grinned. “You already know I did” Slash and Izzy had hugged me, ruffled my hair, teased me. Like the brothers they are to me. But Duff hadn’t hugged me or said hi to me.
There he was and all his big bird glory, eating Mandy’s face off. “Hey Big Bird! So much for missing me, asshole” I yelled, making the boys laugh and the couple separating. I crossed my arms, got a mean scold plastered as he walked up to me. “I’m sorry, Princess. Can I have a hug now?” Duff grinned. “No” “Whatd ya mean no? It was my idea to come see you and bring you back with us. God you’re such a child, Y/n!” Duff sighed, backing up a little. “Nice observation dumbass! Considering I’m 17 still. You’re the one pitching a bitch like you’re 8” i spat back. Duff rolled his eyes, “Just shut up and hug me damn!” I laughed as he embraced me. “I missed you big worm”, I said. The boys giggled. “Stop calling me that. I’m not wormy at all”, Duff whined. “Okay I’m sorry big worm” “Y/N!” Duff groaned, playfully pushing me to Izzy.

series 32 episode 27:
jac's back
reallyyy don't understand how they expect ethan to find out who the blogger is?? and wouldn't they rather he spend the time doing his job???
robyn's complaining about everyone being tired and david puts on an american accent and goes "yeah but we must follow our commander-in-chief, and make this hospital great again!" nahhh that's not fair😭😭😭😭 ethan walks up behind them but stops to listen and robyn's like "you really need a holiday david. don't worry about it, as soon as i see ethan, i'm gonna have a word." and ethan walks away😥😥😥😥😥 well at least robyn hasn't forgotten that he is their friend
poor ethan :( i was gonna say he's really going through it but he's been going through it CONSTANTLY for like 2 years at this point😭
aw cal mention! ethan's speaking to alicia in his office after he's told everyone that he's going to find the blogger today and they'll lose their job and he's like "'i will find you, and i will kill you' did you ever see that film? cal used to watch it all the time" and she says she watched it with him once but she is VISIBLY NERVOUS like stroking her hair😭
"'the idiots have cancelled all locums for the foreseeable future' so that's me? the idiot." 😭 alicia tries to convince him that it means everyone in charge because it's plural?? bestie he IS in charge??? it was decision to cancel locums and leave so who else could that possibly mean😭😭😭 yeah she didn't start the blog with the intention of hurting ethan but THAT was DEFINITELY a direct attack
he asks if it's her and she gets SO offended like "you really think that of me??" making him feel bad for even thinking it, that's actually horrible >:( and then he asks for her help in finding who it is and she says he must think a lot of her to think she'd rat out one of her colleagues and says she's not gonna be responsible for somebody losing their job... but ethan will lose his job if he doesn't find who it is soo you'll be responsible either way??? well really it should be her losing her job ofc, not that i want her to
rash and bea sjkskjfsj
rash is still scared of resus🥺 bea going "you can either walk into resus, or you can sit out here and fill your pants. either way is messy." LMAOOO I LOVE HER
ethan's investigating the patients mentioned by rage in resus and he asks charlie about one of them and charlie notices alicia listening in looking worried sjsjdjd
lmao rash runs away from resus to be sick again and ethan's like "well it's no wonder people are writing blogs if that's how the f1s are behaving"😭😭 he's going to be your best man one day bestie can you believe that!
oop alicia accidentally says "her" when referring to the blogger to duffy💀💀
ily rash <333
i want bea to be my girlfriend
ethan getting mad at noel for not doing what he's asked him to and as he walks off noel's like "where do people go, eh robyn? he used to be such a decent bloke" and i'm pretty sure ethan was still in earshot judging by his expression :( also sorry but "where do people go"???? what kind of a stupid fucking question is that?? his brother died less than a year ago did you forget already???? and robyn's like "i know. and to think, i used to fancy him. i mean, not a lot, but he had potential" not a lot? reaaally robyn?? i remember the scene with the doughnuts after dixie left you can't fool me
rash leaving to run after a patient when ethan asks him why he isn't in resus and then ethan gets the notes of all the patients he was investigating and they're all rash's patients and he shows charlie who's like "noo, that can't be right" and ethan's like "it's basic psychology isn't it? can't do their own job properly so complain about everyone else doing there's."😭😭
aww rash's patient is scared so he gives him his glasses and he says they're plastic or glass or something and he wears them because they make him feel like he can be something he's not🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
GO RASH!!
ethan asks noel to call jac down because he knows who the blogger is and also to tell rash he needs to speak to him so ofc noel puts two and two together and he tells alicia and charlie notices her looking guilty again
ooo charlie's like "you're not just gonna stand there, are you?" to alicia as they watch rash approach ethan's office. she tells rash ethan doesn't need to see him anymore and prepares herself😬
alicia was mentoring rash on all the cases that were blogged about😬
jac going "i usually spend my lunch break avoiding all human contact so this had better be good" sjsjdjfj mood
surely jac realises that he's covering for alicia right???? like he says he knows who the blogger is and looks at alicia who looks like she's about to burst into tears and jac's like "well you hide that bruising bitterness well. it's always the quiet ones who shout the loudest." but then ethan says that alicia helped him work it out and jac appears to immediately believe him that it isn't her??
ohh okay nevermind no i think she does realise when he refuses to give her the name and says he's made a deal with them for anonymity in exchange for the blog coming down because she asks alicia how she worked it out and when she doesn't tell her she's looking between them like she knows😭
why is this even jac's job anyway?? i could well be missing something because i was not watching holby at this point in time but i thought she was just head of darwin? what's this got to do with her??
alicia says she doesn't know what to say but ethan just yells GET OUT😢
ethan telling everyone that he's resuming the standard locum policy and approving leave again and robyn's like "what's brought all this on?" and he's like "i am on your side, robyn. always have been." he sounds SO sad :(((((
alicia writing one last post to apologise for some of the things she wrote "it's not that i was wrong in trying to shed some light, it's more that i hurt some of the people i was trying to help" you don't say
alicia tries to thank ethan for not dobbing her in but he says it was just because they need the staff
"we are dying on our feet. they're crushing us, ethan, at least people know what we're going through now." "do they? no, i think tomorrow they'll just be reading about some pop star or the best way to comb your eyelashes" comb your eyelashes??? ssdhjdfshj
they're both crying :(((
"it wasn't meant to hurt you" "i looked you dead in the eye and i asked if it was you, and i believed you. i even asked for your help." "i know, and i'm sorry, but you've done your little investigation and it's over now so-" "that is not the point! i tho- it's like i didn't matter to you. i was clearly struggling, i was losing friends, you didn't care." "we weren't exactly bosom buddies when it started" "you even tried to make me feel bad for daring to think it was you. it's cold, alicia. it's mean."😥😥😥😥 why is she trying to act like it's no big deal now that he knows?????
"look it wasn't easy to lie but i had to! we are having a nightmare in this ed and that is where my head was at. and my heart." oh her heart😢😢
"i've gotta ask. was it because you still like me?" "like you?" "yeah you didn't dob me in, is that the reason? only i would like to talk about that" i mean you had like sort of just got back together so of course he still likes you?? or he did, anyway. "are you joking? i couldn't like you less." :((((
"the only reason i didn't tell jac naylor it was you is because i'm a decent person, but you're not. you're not, alicia. you played cal. you played me. you're not good to be around." i meannn he's not exactly right, because i don't think she intended to hurt cal or him, but he's not exactly wrong either.
"ethan?" "it is doctor hardy. and that is all i'll ever be to you."😥😥😥😥😥 okay now start the clock how little time does it take them to make up again shdhjfh
george rainsford and chelsea halfpenny though!!! they're sooo good

Love Grows (demon!Bucky and pre-serum!Steve omegaverse au)
10
HALFWAY THROUGH Symbol of Courage, Hodge came home. Not for long though. He rushed in, gave Steve a kiss to the top of his head, and then left for 12A. Claiming that he was going to talk business with Bucky and Daniel. With Bucky, because of the alpha's connections. With Daniel, because of the man's late father and the stories of the influential people he had known.
Huffing, Steve shoved himself further into the armchair. Sure, he knew that getting buddy-buddy with the neighbors could potentially help boost Hodge's career. But couldn't he have waited? Couldn't he have spent some time talking with Steve? A funny story about his acting coach, Michael Joseph Duffy aka MJD aka Duff? Or a story about how ridiculous another actor was during auditions? Anything?
Sighing at his own jealousies, Steve tried to get back into reading. It was a decent first draft. Good characters. Good story. Hodge would fit the Brett Hendrick character perfectly. All American Grade A Beefcake. Pinnacle of non-toxic alphaninity. Yeah, Hodge was perfect for that. Even if he was a beta.
He'd need a little help in the sass department, sure, but he could work on that. Steve knew that Hodge could do anything that he put his mind to, even – no, especially – when Hodge didn't think so himself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just as Steve was getting back into the script, there was a knock at the door. Heart racing from the horrible fate of the beloved character, Jimmy, Steve's brows furrowed, but he still got up to get the door. Surprisingly enough, it was Peggy and another older woman, petite, frail, and smiling, with a gaudy, silver floral brooch pinned to the shoulder of her yellow polka dot dress.
"Hi, dear," Peggy smiled, "We're not bothering you, are we?"
"Of course, not," Steve said, opening the door to welcome the two older women into his home. Pressing his lips together to suppress his disgust at the scent that the women brought with them. The same scent that came from Sharon's good luck charm.
"This is my dear friend, Angie Martinelli, who lives on six. Angie, this is Arnold's nephew's husband, Steve."
"Welcome to Stark Tower!"
"Thank you," Steve smiled, closing the door. Then, his brain caught up with the women and he asked, "Martinelli? As in Angela Martinelli? White Christmas in Vermont, Angela Martinelli?"
"The very same," she smiled, and Steve was starstruck.
"Ms. Martinelli, it's an honor," Steve started, taking her offered hand in his. Gushing, "My mom and I watch your holiday movies every winter, and would marathon Dear Betty almost every morning."
"Well, bless you," Angie giggled, giving Steve's hand a squeeze.
Wait until mom hears of this!
As the two women made their way down the hallway to the living room, they kept commenting about how beautiful the apartment was. Steve couldn't take any credit for the interior design though, Uncle Arnie had some decent taste. All he and Hodge had done was move their stuff into the lavish space.
Reaching the living room, both women sat down on the velvet navy-blue sofa. Both women had brought identical sewing bags and started opening them and took out their current projects. Crocheting for Angie and darning for Peggy. Clearly, settling down for a long evening of needlework and conversation.
"Oh, before I forget," Peggy said, reaching into her bag to pull out a small box. "This is for you. From Daniel and me."
"For me?" Steve asked, brows furrowing once more.
"It's just a little present is all," Peggy smiled, dismissing Steve's concern and puzzlement. "For moving in and for being so thoughtful."
"That's very kind of you," Steve said, taking a seat in the plaid armchair. Opening the little wrapped box, he froze. There, Sharon's silver filigree ball-charm and its clustered together chain. Sharon's not-so-lucky good luck charm. The smell hit him again, stronger, and made Steve rear back.
"It's really very old," Peggy continued, as though Steve wasn't refraining from pinching his nose at the scent of the translucent-bluish spongy substance. "Over three hundred years old."
"It's lovely," he said, gaze glued to it as he debated whether he should tell her that Sharon had already showed it off and told him the exact same thing.
But he didn't want to upset the older omega. She had, after all, been very kind. And Sharon was her niece, her daughter-surrogate, who she lost.
"The inside is called terrigen, it's a root," Peggy said. "It's good luck."
Not for Sharon, Steve thought. Instead of speaking the words out loud though, he tried to give the necklace back, "It's lovely, but I can't accept such a –"
"You already have," Peggy insisted, not looking up at Steve as she darned a brown sock. "Put it on."
Angie assured, "You'll get used to the smell before you know it."
"Go on," Peggy said.
"Well, thank you," Steve smiled and hesitantly, reluctantly, put the chain over his head, tucking the charm into the collar of his shirt. It was cold for a moment against his skin and he told himself that he'd take it off once the two women left.
"Is that the script?" Peggy asked, gesturing to the ottoman and the thick stack of papers fastened together.
Angie perked at that, asking Steve, "Are you a writer."
"No," Steve said while Peggy added, "He's an artist. Hodge says that he's very talented."
"Your children must be very creative," Angie smiled, not knowing how much that comment alone broke his heart.
Lifting the script so he could keep reading, he corrected, "We don't have children."
"Soon, I'm sure," Angie encouraged, and Steve hoped it would be. From her lips to God's ears.
As the night continued, Steve found himself content. With the two women making small talk and telling stories while Steve sat, listening and reading. Surprisingly, it was a pleasant evening. Time even got away from them.
At around eleven, Hodge came home. He said hello to the women and bent so he could kiss Steve's cheek. Only then did the women realize how late it was and pack up their things to leave.
"Come and visit me anytime you want, I'm 6C," Angie smiled, following Peggy out of the apartment.
Once he and Hodge were alone, Steve asked, "So, ya gonna be a big movie star now or what?"
"Yup." Hodge weakly joked, "Gonna get my Hollywood Star tomorrow."
Steve chuckled, stretched, and then stood from the chair. Gesturing towards the script, "If it helps, Bucky's friend wrote one hell of a script. And I know that you'll make the perfect lead."
"Let's keep our fingers crossed."
Following Hodge into their bedroom, Steve changed out of his clothes. The necklace hung low, stretching down his naked sternum. Just looking down at it made him feel icky. Almost like he had taken it off of Sharon's corpse himself.
"What's that?" Hodge asked, climbing into bed in only his boxer briefs.
"A present. It was Sharon's. The police must've, I don't know, given it back or somethin'."
"She probably wasn't even wearing it."
Lifting the chain off over his head, he held it out in front of him, looking at the charm. It really was beautiful, but it wasn't his. Not really. Plus, it still reeked.
"Aren't you going to wear it?" Hodge asked.
"It smells," Steve complained. "There's stuff in it. A root. Rotten food smells better."
"Oh, c'mon, it can't be that bad," Hodge chuckled.
Steve carried it over and shoved it in his husband's face so the beta could get a nice, big whiff. Nonplussed, Hodge shrugged, "It's not that bad."
Rolling his eyes, Steve carried the necklace into the bathroom. Opening the vanity drawer, he placed it inside. While Steve closed the door, Hodge stood in the doorway, "If you took it, you should wear it."
"If you took it, you should wear it," Steve mocked, leaving the bathroom. Stretching up on his tiptoes, Steve kissed his stubbly cheek.
Somewhere throughout the night, Steve awoke and found Hodge sitting beside the open window, smoking in the dark. Brows furrowed, Steve glanced at the alarm clock and then back to his husband. The beta had quit smoking over two years ago.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing," Hodge assured, putting the cigarette out. "Insomnia, probably. Nothing to worry about. Go back to sleep."
Figuring that he was nervous about auditions and upset with the stories about old-time stars and their fame, Steve climbed out of bed. Wrapping his arms around the muscular blond, he tried to comfort his husband the best he could. "I love you. Not just for your immense talent, but for you. For who you are. And who you are is a good man."
When that didn't seem to help any, Steve told him that he didn't need to worry.
"About what?"
"About anything."
"Alright," Hodge weakly smiled, "I won't."
"You're the greatest," Steve kissed the top of his head. "Y'know? You are. And it's all going to come out right. You're gonna have to learn karate or somethin' to get through the mob of fans. And let's not even talk about what you'd have to do to get rid of the paps."
That small, sad smile remained on his face as he looked down at his lap.
"Any day now," Steve insisted. "Something big. Something worthy of you."
Hodge nodded, not arguing. Encouraging Steve, "Go back to sleep, honey."
"Wake me if you can't sleep."
"Sure."
"I love you."
"Love you, too."
The screenplay that Steve reads is an early version of the "Captain America: The First Avenger" screenplay. I only changed the character's names with aliases used either in the MCU or in the comic books. I hope you're doing well wherever you are! Much love and appreciation Minnie ❤❤❤
