This is my submission for Olicity Clue, an event organized by @olicitytropes. Besides the clues given, I got inspired by an old pop song in Spanish, Mi Chica De Humo (my smoke girl), quoted below.
Can you guys guess which my 3 clues are, a person, a place, and a thing?
PS: This is the dress Felicity wears 😉

MY SMOAK GIRL
Although I don't know who she is
My feet should know
They follow her like the rats
to the flute of Hamelin
 To lose her later.
—"Mi chica de humo", Emmanuel (1988)
Striding in the nightclub as if he owns it, the first thing Oliver notices is the crowd, contorting rhythmically on the dance floor. As he expects, the place is full to the rafters. He plows through the drunk throng, dodging bodies, alert to any threat around him. The loud beat of the music makes it almost impossible to have a conversation at a normal volume. Neither it allows hearing the little talk that anyone could establish.
The latter is the exact reason why he chose this club as the meeting place with his tech girl. As an undercover ARGUS agent, he needs to outsource where he gets information to accomplish his job. An encounter in a shifty, secluded place always draws more attention than one in plain sight.
Amanda Waller was very clear the day she assigned this mission to him. She ordered him to cut each and all types of communication with the agency until the target was neutralized. That left him at a disadvantage.
His target, Deadshot, is an elusive international assassin with a large death toll under his belt. The killer's true identity is a mystery, leaving his particular modus operandi as the only way to recognize his work. He kills with bullets laced with curare. As a fast-acting poison, the curare ensures that even if the victim survives the shot, the person is paralyzed in 3 minutes and dead in the next.
Oliver knows the basics around a computer but he's not the tech-savviest person in the world. If he wanted to catch this guy, he needed the help of someone who was. If he couldn't access the legal resources, he turned to the illegal ones. The first thing Oliver did before leaving ARGUS HQ was to look for the file of the most skillful hacker in their watchlist. One stood out more than any other.
The irony of Oliver using that list wasn't lost to him. That's how Amanda had found him. Oliver had been on the same list once until she recruited him a few years ago. Waller is adept to keep tabs on people who have a specific or extraordinary skillset who could be either a threat or a possible asset.
When Oliver found Felicity Smoak, she was not what he expected. He had taken one look at the quirky, babbling blonde and his world tilted. Five minutes later, he was totally smitten with her. A dangerous thing in his line of work.
Despite wishing not to, Oliver longs for these encounters with her. They've started as tense and awkward moments. Through time, however, they became a source of solace and reassurance in his violent life.
There's one thing that bothers Oliver about Felicity: she has the uncanny ability to disappear on him. He prides himself to be a good hunter. Nothing passes his notice, except when she goes away. He's tried to follow her to no avail. She just vanishes like smoke, making honors to her surname.
He shouldn't take it personally. It's understandable that after he barged into her life and "recruited" her, informing her that a governmental agency was aware of her hacktivism, as she likes to call it, Felicity took serious measures to remain in the dark.
He promised her that if she helped him, he would erase her file and he'd personally guarantee that no charge would be pressed against her. A poor reassurance for her, apparently. To her credit, Oliver stretched the truth about how much power he has to make that happen and she saw through him. Amanda Waller is a woman who gets what she wants and if Felicity is at the top of the list that means Weller has her eyes on the blonde hacker.
The upbeat dance song, playing loudly on the speakers, fades out before a slower one starts and the crowd on the dance floor disperses, creating an aisle in their midst. A woman walks through it as recognition hits Oliver. He can do nothing but admire Felicity approaching the bar where he waits. Sweeping an appreciative glance over her, he enjoys the view of her mile-long legs, her feet encased in a pair of strappy black sandals, then his eyes come back up.
The red mini dress she wears clings snuggly to her curves and makes Oliver inwardly drool.
Get a grip.
The mental chastisement does little to prevent his body's reaction; his heart beats faster, heat travel through his veins directly to his groin, and his hands itch with a yearning for touching Felicity's tantalizing body.
A thing that he never has allowed himself to do. Only in his dreams.
"Have something for me?" he says lamely when she reaches him. I sound like a jackass. Why couldn't he say something nice, to ask how she is?
A sad smile is set on her red lips and his guilt skyrockets.
"Yes I do," she dismisses the small talk and goes straight to business as he did. "I've got what you're looking for."
"You found him." Oliver's tone doesn't convey entirely the awe he feels. Nobody at ARGUS has been able to find this guy, and here's Felicity with the done deed as if it's nothing.
"His name is Floyd Lawton, ex-military, history of domestic violence and… and he's here."
"Here?" Oliver hissed through his gritted teeth as goes into a higher alert, sweeping his gaze around, and looking for the threat. Without even thinking about it, he gets closer to Felicity in a protective move. The last thing he wants is for her to be in the crosshairs of an assassin.
"Well, not here, here," Felicity clarifies, firing her words out in rapid succession as Oliver's noticed she often does when nerves get the better of her. She certainly looks jittery and her tone is a little breathless. "Not in the club. In Star City here. He's staying at the Papp Motel, Room 52. I think… I think he has a contract. For what I could dig up from the dark web, there's someone in the city paying serious money for a job."
"You found out who?"
"I backtraced the money through what felt like a gazillion of shell companies. It wasn't easy but, at last, I found a connection to a restaurant here in the city… the Jade Dragon."
Oliver groans.
"What?"
"It's better that you don't know."
That restaurant is a known front for the Chinese Triad. If the Triad hired Deadshot, the safest thing to do for Felicity is keeping that knowledge from her.
The sound of glass shattering starlets both Oliver and Felicity.  A few feet from them, a partying group laughs drunkenly as one of them tries to clean off him the drink that obviously fell from his grasp.
When Oliver returns his gaze to Felicity, she's more rattled than he expects. "You okay?"
"Uh-huh."
She nods but the way she swallows hard tells a different story.
"Felicity," Oliver drawls her name, in a way that is both a warning and a persuading plea. She looks at him and, for the first time, he glimpses a trace of fear in her eyes. "What is it? Did something happen?"
"No, no. I'm sure I'm being paranoid."
"What. Happened?"
This time his steadfast tone that leaves no room to avoid answering the question goes through Felicity. She sighs and bits her lower lip. "It's silly," she insists, "But I thought someone was following me this morning. Like I said, paranoid."
"That happened before or after you found out what you told me about Lawton?"
Her forehead crinkles as she thinks. "After," she said cautiously.
"Shit!"
"What? Oliver, what?! I'm not paranoid, am I?"
Oliver ignores her questions and the rising panic in her voice. Instead, he turns to the bartender and asks her for a notepad and a pen. When she gives what he needs, Oliver scribbles an address on a piece of paper and hands it to Felicity. "Go there," he instructs. "Take a cab and go there now. Ask for John Diggle. He'll help you. He knows what to do."
"Help me? Why? What's going on, Oliver? Who's following me?"
"I'm sorry, Felicity. I never meant to put you in danger. I'm sorry."
He never meant to do that but he knew it was a possibility, so that's why he talked with his best friend, who incidentally is a former ARGUS agent, to set up a safe house for her in case of need. He had thought about it more for if Amada Weller wasn't going to play along with taking Felicity off the list. He wanted to keep Felicity the promise he made her… one way or another.
Oliver is unable to stop himself. He needs to have a little moment to remember later before sending her away, so he gives in the need to touch her. Putting his hands on her shoulders and gliding them up and down over her arms, he leans his forehead on hers. She looks at him, confused.
Selfishly, Oliver is glad that she's so unsettled to reject his caresses or pull away. In fact, she surprises by placing her hands on his chest and closing her eyes. If he trusts her facial expression, then she's relishing the contact as much as he is.
"He's after me so I gotta hide, is that it?" she asks softly.
Oliver nods. Lawton, the Triad, or even Waller could be tailing Felicity, therefore, yes, she needs to go to safety.
"Am I ever going to see you again?"
The question breaks his heart.
"Maybe," he replies, but both know that it's a lie.
Oliver pulls away from her and steps back. It's almost impossible for him to do. It takes all his willpower to let her go.
She follows him and surprises him yet again. She mutters something that sounds like "oh, what the frak" and then she's kissing him. A soft kiss that put to shame all the wildest dreams about kissing her that he had before. The tenderness of it, the simplicity does its best to break him. Almost succeeded.
When she pulls away, he asks her, "What was that for?"
"Just in case," she says simply. "If I never see you again, I didn't want to regret not kissing you at least once since it seems you don't have the courage to do it."
He chuckles with sadness, realizing that his attraction for her isn't unrequited. "You're a remarkable woman, Felicity Smoak. Far braver than I am. I'll always regret not having done something or said something to you before now. We just could've…."
A million of what could've been but they'll never be.
"Come find me later and I'll let you make up for it."
Paying no heed to his instinct or logic, Oliver dares to dream with that possibility. Yes, he decides. He'll deal with Deadshot and the Triad, will tie the loose ends with Amanda and demand her to keep the promise she made him a long time ago, according to which she would release him from duty after time served under her command. That time has gone and passed.
Before, he didn't have anything to live a normal life. Now, he does.
Felicity steals another kiss from him before walking away. Oliver resists the temptation to call her back as she sashays away. As if in a dream the crowd parts and regroups as Felicity crosses the dance floor. In a moment, she's there and, in the next, she's gone like smoke.
*
Oliver walks closer to the cozy cabin ahead. He strides onward with confidence, even if his stomach feels full of butterflies. He takes the front steps and watches the little porch with a couple of chairs. It's an ideal place to sit at night and stargaze or simply to enjoy a hot cup of tea in good company.
He raps two knuckles on the front door and waits. It seems that the butterflies in his stomach suddenly became lead as he stands there and no one answers the door.
John said she'd be there. Why isn't she answering? Before his panic blows up fully and he knocks the door down, it opens.
She's there with a smile brighter than the sun.
"Felicity," he breathes, his voice thick with emotion.
"There you are, handsome. I've been waiting for you for months. Did you have to drag your feet?"
Unfazed by the teasing, Oliver wraps his arms around her waist and pulls her close to him. His lips trap hers, kissing her as he dreamed all those months since he saw her last.
"I think," he says between kisses, "that I have some making up to do. Do you still want to collect the debt?"
Felicity laughs and then moans when he finds a particular tender spot on her neck.
"Oh, yes. I plan to collect every penny and with interest," she teases as she hauls him inside the house.

Dominant culture:  a dominant culture is one that is able, through economic or political power, to impose its values, language, and ways of behaving on a subordinate culture or cultures. This may be achieved through legal or political suppression of other sets of values and patterns of behaviour, or by monopolizing the media of communication.

Utopia means nowhere or no place. It has often been taken to mean good place, through confusion of its first syllable with the Greek eu as in euphemism or eulogy. NOSTALGIA AS DOMINANT MODE
How do explain the large number of works based on pre-existing work?
Why do you think that adaptations are the dominant product in today’s media market?
Two Types of Nostalgia
estorative:
“puts emphasis on nostos (returning home) and proposes to rebuild the lost home and patch up the memory gaps.” (Boym)
Reflective:
“Reflective nostalgia, on the other hand, “dwells in algia (aching), in longing and loss, the imperfect process of remembrance.”
“Personal nostalgia can be used therapeutically to help individuals move beyond trauma” (Batcho, 2017)
Historically being nostalgic or using nostalgia as a form of expression in art or literature has not been seen as a good thing, rather it’s been viewed as the antithesis of progression and innovation. Miuccia Prada once said ‘nostalgia is a very complicated subject for me. I'm attracted by nostalgia but I refuse it intellectually.’
Definition of Hauntology
Hauntology is a philosophical concept referring to the return or persistence of elements from the past, as in the manner of a ghost. The term was coined by French philosopher Jacques Derrida in his 1993 book Spectres of Marx.

@annashipper this is quite ridiculous, you are not blocked on my blog, no one is, and I have no problem at all with talking to you directly.
In terms of the law and practice concerning celeb photos in the UK Im not surprised you are confused. Current rules are a mix of case law, precedent and statute and are hard to pin down without actually bringing a legal case.
You assert a couple of things.
1. that someone could buy exclusive rights to a photo. But you miss the point this is purely rights to publish, the photographer retains ownership. Exclusives are usually time limited and comparatively expensive. For a celeb it would be akin to paying a blackmailer and is rarer than hens teeth since there are other options open to the celeb.
a. an injunction - rarer these days when applied to pics of children (but used for other things) because of
b. the Weller ruling which no paper is going to break without the most massive story to back it up . Actor has a picnic with his kids is not a story, it’s a space filler
c. And there’s also, pressure from the rep. Agencies have a lot of power. They can approve a pic, or they can ask for it not to be published. They are likely to do the second if there is no real story and the celeb chooses privacy. They do this by threat and persuasion depending on the paper and the seriousness of the issue. So they may say don’t publish this because I will give you a better story about another celeb or don’t publish this because I won’t give you access to interview x. Again for kids photos the Weller ruling makes this less likely.
2. That BC hired children on one or more occasion. If you have any proof of this I personally know journalist who would bite your hand off for the story. It would certainly earn you enough to put a big deposit down on a house in Greece. BC is at the level of fame where he is still vulnerable to the tabloid story (unlike bigger stars who can afford lawyers and injunctions about every little indiscretion or simply aren’t harmed by them). There are a group of celebs on every hacks list and everyone is looking for stories about them. Take the planning dispute. Hundreds of people, including many celebs, have planning issues every week so you have to be looking hard and looking for a particular person to find them. And you don’t publish a story like that if you have something even a little bit better.
Lets state now I have a couple of personal insights to this. My husband used to be a journalist in the music press, he now manages bands, I know hacks, I’ve spoken to them about BC and if there was a story they would have published it years ago (when he had less money and was even more vulnerable). One of your skeptics has sent them (and continues to send them) links to all the major blogs every week and honestly they are bored with it. There is no story, skeptics have no facts and have provided the papers with nothing that makes them think that there are. There is no gossip in the UK industry about BC above and beyond the normal  things most of us know about him already. His wedding and children are registered legally. At least two people spent time doing all the appropriate investigations including doorstepping his friends, family, midwife, playgroup leaders, employees etc. There was no story, or even a hint of one, which, considering any one of these people could have earned a shed load of money, is as much proof as you need that there really is no scandal about him. No individual in the UK would ‘leak’ info to a blogger for free when the papers are offering so much for things far more minor than the things skeptics assert have happened.
Second, I live in Brighton, lots of actors and creatives including my neighbour who has worked with BC more than once. They have shown me a pic which included BC and his kids, and their own kids which is why they were showing me the photo. I have no reason to doubt the integrity of this person or of anyone else who says they have seen him and his kids.

The Definitive Whiskey Urban Dictionary
Tumblr media
The whiskey industry has always been steeped in slang, with old-timers stalking the distillery grounds talking about cutting “heads” and “tails,” toasting the oak to an “alligator char,” “clocking” some barrels, and then “thieving” some bourbon straight from the “bunghole.” Of course, the bar has likewise always had its own lingo, with drinkers ordering up wee “drams” of Scotch and “neat” pours of bourbon. But over the last decade, whiskey enthusiasm has also gone online, via blogs, forums, and private groups on Facebook, and a whole new vernacular has emerged.
Mingle with a group of whiskey enthusiasts online and you’d almost need a Rosetta stone to decipher what’s being said. They’re talking about “butts” and “crotch shots” but it’s nothing X-rated, there are “sherry bombs” and “HAZMAT” bottles but it’s not that dangerous, and “in the wild” there are “peat monsters” and “unicorns,” though nothing to be scared of. What is to fear are all the acronyms the online whiskey community now employs; it can be truly overwhelming. BTAC? ETL? PCH? Really, WTF?
Ready to test your knowledge and engage in some cultural anthropology? Here is the latest edition of the whiskey geek dictionary.
Age Statement
The age of a whiskey, measured by the youngest barrel within a blend; i.e. a 15-year-old single malt Scotch may be composed of some barrels much older than fifteen years, but there will be none that are younger than that. Note that age statements have increasingly been disappearing over the last decade.
Allocated
A reference to limited products, like Pappy Van Winkle and the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection, specifically doled out to certain retailers (who may have bought and sold a lot of the distillery’s less-acclaimed products, like vodka or Fireball, in order to receive these allocations). In many cases, a store may only get a few bottles of any allocated product.
Angel’s Share
The percentage of whiskey that is lost due to evaporation as it ages in the barrel. So named because it is said to be what the angels now get to taste. Kentucky bourbon might lose 3 to 4 percent per year, while Scotch will lose around 2 percent due to its more mild climate.
Backup
Extra bottles for your bunker, which thus enable you to actually drink your rare whiskey as opposed to just hoarding it. In usage: “Just landed a backup of 2019 GTS so now I can finally open a bottle and try it.”
Barrel Pick (Also: Store Pick or Private Barrel)
Single barrel bottlings specifically selected by a commercial buyer or group. Sometimes these are sold in stores or offered at the bars that hand-selected them; other times they are solely for a private whiskey group to divvy up amongst themselves. They are usually differentiated from standard products with additional neck-tags or decals (see: Sticker Label).
Barrel Strength (Also: Cask Strength)
Whiskey that is bottled at the exact proof it was when it came out of the barrel. This is usually 100 proof to upwards of 140 proof or more (see: HAZMAT).
BiB
“Bottled in Bond,” a reference to a legal classification of whiskey defined by an 1897 act of Congress. To qualify, the bourbon must come from a single distillation season; have been produced by one distiller at one distillery; have been aged in a federally bonded warehouse for at least four years; and is then bottled at exactly 100 proof. If BiB originally assured the integrity of a product — one that hadn’t been rectified — today it is not often used.
BIN
Standing for “buy it now,” this is what collectors on the online secondary market will write in the comments section after someone offers a bottle for sale on Facebook, Instagram, or another platform. The rationale is that the first person to post “BIN” now has dibs at purchasing the bottle at the poster’s originally stated cost. However, it is often used cheekily after someone posts something they have no intention of ever selling, like a family heirloom they just discovered, or a comically gross bottle that has come into their possession.
Bunghole
The small opening in the barrel from which the whiskey is added and ultimately dumped. Bungholes are, no surprise, filled by bungs — small, circular wooden blocks.
Bunker
A person’s private collection, though the term often refers to the portion of it not on display in their house. In usage: “I’ve already got a Weller Full Proof but I thought it couldn’t hurt to have a few more backups in my bunker.”
Butt
A larger oak barrel, around 500 liters, that originally contained another liquid, often sherry.
Cask
Another name for a barrel, though this usually refers to a Scotch barrel.
Crotch Shot
A strange phenomenon whereas a collector will take a picture of an allocated bottle that they have just scored immediately upon exiting the store and sitting down in their car. Unfortunately, these photos are usually positioned in a way where the bottle is positioned between the buyer’s legs. Many online whiskey groups have taken to banning crotch shots due to their tastelessness and pointless braggadocio.
Dram
A glass of whiskey, usually neat, and usually Scotch.
Dusties
Vintage whiskey, so named because the bottles inherently have dust on them from years of sitting on shelves untouched. However, even cleaned-up vintage bottles are often referred to as “dusties.”
Dusty-Hunting
Searching for vintage whiskey in off-the-beaten-path liquor stores, flea markets, and estate sales, where purveyors might not know the value or rarity of what they possess. The glory days of dusty-hunting, however, have been over for a few years, and big scores are becoming increasingly unlikely.
Finished
When a whiskey spends its final few months, or years, of aging, in a secondary barrel that previously held another liquid such as sherry, port, or Armagnac. Not to be confused with the “finish” of a whiskey — in other words, how it lingers on the palate as the flavor dissipates. In usage: “Was this bourbon finished in something? I’m getting an odd mezcal note.”
Flip/Flipped
Buying a coveted bottle, often at retail prices, only to immediately sell it for an inflated secondary market price. In usage: “I sold that jerk an OWA for $30 and he immediately flipped it!”
Glencairn
A popular style of glass amongst enthusiasts who sip their whiskey neat. Though a reference to the Glencairn Crystal company out of Scotland, which offers several styles of glassware, amongst whiskey geeks the term strictly denotes their 4 1/2-inch tapered copita-inspired glass with a thick base.
GTS
“George T. Stagg.” Many hardcore collectors tend to only speak in acronyms when discussing important bottles like PVW23 (Pappy Van Winkle 23 Year Old), M20 (Michter’s 20 Year), and WLW (William Larue Weller). A helpful acronym guide is available on Reddit, of course.
HAZMAT
A whiskey over 140-proof, so labeled by whiskey geeks because you are not legally allowed to take such a bottle onto an airplane, for fear that it could spontaneously ignite.
Hogshead
A 54-gallon cask, usually reconstructed from bourbon barrels with additional staves and larger barrel heads.
Honey Barrel (Also: Sugar Barrel)
A primo barrel of whiskey, ideal for being immediately used as a single barrel selection. Top master distillers and blenders are said to know where all the best-tasting honey barrels are hidden throughout their rickhouses. Certain rickhouses, and certain rickhouse locations, are known for producing an unusually large number of honey barrels.
Honey Hole
A lightly-trafficked liquor store that continually happens to stock rare bottles. The location of honey holes are rarely shared with fellow enthusiasts, lest the shelves soon get cleared. In usage: “I told my bourbon group about my honey hole and now it only has shelf turds.”
The Hunt
When collectors are actively searching for limited editions and allocated whiskeys. As many allocated whiskeys are released in November each year, the late fall and early winter is often known as “hunting season.”
Infinity Bottle (Also: Solera Bottle, Living Bottle, or Vatting)
A perpetual blend that many whiskey fans keep in their homes, often in a decanter. These are created by pouring parts of all or some of one’s other bottles together, often in a slapdash manner. The fact that the bottle is never emptied gives it its name. Though many collectors have one, they are still widely mocked as a neophyte move.
In the Wild
Public store shelves, out in the open, which is a highly unusual place to locate rare offerings. In usage: “I can’t believe I found a Pappy ‘in the wild’.”
Juice
Another name for whiskey, usually referring to it before it has been bottled. In usage: “Is that new distillery sourcing MGP juice?”
LE
Limited editions, i.e. rare whiskeys.
Mashbill (or mash bill)
The grain recipe of the mash that is fermented and then distilled into whiskey, i.e. 75 percent corn, 20 percent rye, and 5 percent malted barley.
NCF
“Non-chill filtered.” Many whiskeys have some of their chemical compounds filtered by freezing it — this technique guarantees that the product will appear clear in the bottle. A lot of enthusiasts, however, prefer an NCF whiskey; even if it has the propensity to appear hazy, it retains esters, proteins, and acids that many people believe add flavor and a pleasing, oily mouthfeel. Look for the NCF designation on the label.
The Pappiez
A mocking way of discussing Pappy Van Winkle, usually used in reference to neophyte collectors misidentifying things like Old Rip Van Winkle 10 Year and Van Winkle Special Reserve Lot B as “Pappy,” or going to stores demanding access to the limited product.
Peat Monster
A heavily-peated Scotch, typically from the Islay region.
Poor Man’s Pappy
An amateur blend, created on the straightbourbon.com forum and popularized by Bourbonr blogger Blake Riber, that is said to simulate the taste of Pappy Van Winkle at a more accessible cost. However, as its two components, Old Weller Antique 107 and W.L. Weller 12 Year, have likewise become allocated and pricy, this is no longer a blend that is cheap and easy to create.
Rickhouse
The warehouses where barrels are stored for aging. Many are made from wood and are open-air, lacking climate control.
Secondary
The secondary market, a grey area where sought-after whiskey is bought and sold these days. In many cases, that means Facebook, though the social media site has tried to crack down on alcohol sales within the last year.
Shelf Turd
A bottle of whiskey that is perpetually stocked on store shelves. While not a signifier of low quality — plenty of shelf turds like Wild Turkey 101 are quite good — it is a signifier of rarity and collectability.
Sherry Bomb
A heavily sherried Scotch.
Sticker Label
The post-purchase decals that adorn most private barrel picks these days. They will often have cartoonish, if not childish imagery, and usually cite an inside joke within the whiskey group that selected the barrel, or the whiskey community at large. While such decals are not endorsed by the distillery, most distilleries do not seem to find their usage problematic.
Tater
A neophyte drinker and collector, so identified by their silly and often misguided behavior. Though a clear shortening of “potato,” no one recalls the term’s etymology. In usage: “That tater specifically booked an international flight just so he could buy Blanton’s at duty-free.”
Unicorn
An extremely rare and, thus, rarely-seen bottle, so identified because collectors are stunned when they come across one “in the wild.”
Wheater
A wheated bourbon, i.e. one in which wheat is used instead of rye as the secondary grain in the mashbill. This often creates a sweeter, “smoother” bourbon as seen in popular products like Pappy Van Winkle, Weller, and even Maker’s Mark.

Yuuram in Novel 8
And with this we end the Caloria arc. May I remind you that yuuram had been absolutely lowkey up to this point (this novel included), and that the real yuuram is about to come? Anyways, it’s so nice to re-read these parts... yuuram is mostly ignored after the cliff scene in this arc, and there are so many more scenes.
------------------------------------------------------------------ Novel 8. ch.1 -You'll have to forgive this brotherly love bit-
Wolfram's jaw muscles moved almost imperceptibly. "I agree. That guy is my brother(ani)." Brother? Did he just say "brother"? Although he is normally very composed, sometimes he would say things so surprising that I almost get a heart attack.
------------------------------------------------------------------ Novel 8. ch.2 -Fighting-
"What's going on, Caloria's representative? You want to end the game in such a boring way? I thought you were a man, that's why I proposed a fair and square showdown. But if you prefer to act like a timid little girl and chicken out, oh, that would be so disappointing."(...)
"Yuuri, don't worry," Wolfram called out to me. "I won't call you henachoko if you give up!"
"Shibuya, listen to your fiance!" Screamed Murata. "No one will blame you, I promise! When we get back to Japan, I'll treat you to rice with grilled pork ribs! So give it up! You have fought enough!"
Really, had I? Had I tried my utmost in this match?(...)
That is the problem with using bat as weapon, there is no middle ground to negotiate. I should have listened to Wolfram's advice and chosen a sword. If only I could point my sword at him, I might be able to force him to surrender.
------------------------------------------------------------------ Novel 8. ch.5 -Yuuri was willing to drink alcohol ...again. Even if it wasn’t by sheer luck-
Before I could say that I don’t drink alcohol because I’m a sportsman, Wolfram, Josak, and I were each handed their own cup. It was a stone liqueur glass with a stem. The amount inside was less than my mother uses for cooking so I gave up.
“That is the ceremonial water known as the Holy Water of Gillesby.”
Luckily, it wasn’t alcohol.
------------------------------------------------------------------ Novel 8. ch.5 -Wolfram's emotions flowing right into Yuuri-
“I ended up calling him that. My previous master always told me not to refer to him as His Majesty.”
To think that wish would be granted like this.
“As for you… I intend to strive to not call you that as well.”
Murata is looking at me. He’s probably worried that I’ll lose my cool and explode. Wolfram took a half a step towards me and leaned his shoulder against my left arm. It was as if his body heat that had suddenly risen with his emotions was flowing right into me.
------------------------------------------------------------------ Novel 8. ch.5 -Random praises-
“What, Yu-… Norman Gilbit?” Wolfram corrects himself by using the full name in an unnatural way. The problem is that he’s too beautiful to play the part of a stray mazoku mercenary hired by a human.
------------------------------------------------------------------ Novel 8. ch.5 -Equals, and Yuuri worrying-
Wolfram, likely having feelings the most similar to mine out of everyone else here, was staring me straight in the face. He slowly unclenches his fists, spreads his fingers and folds his arms with deliberate movements. Standing with his back slightly arched, his left foot is pointing toward Lord Weller. I’m kind of relentless with this, but is his back alright?
------------------------------------------------------------------ Novel 8. ch.5 -I'm dying, Wolfram was the one convincing him to not take the box. How did I miss this!?-
“Is it okay for the spoils of that being Conrart who disappeared?”
“But Wolf…”
“I feel the same.”
Of course he feels the same. His beloved brother is serving the person in power of an enemy country. It’s probably painful that he’s not trying to come back. If he could, as a little brother he would probably like to use the power of the victor to drag him back home even by force.
“But that’s not our right. It’s the right of the man whose mask you’re wearing.”
No, to say it more precisely, it is the right of those who live in Caloria and love it.
“If you’re saying that getting the box is for Conrart, then that’s a misunderstanding on your part. Don’t forget whose victory this is. Don’t forget who you are.”
That’s right. If I decided to play the part of someone else, I have to play it perfectly until the curtain comes down. The laurels that Norman Gilbit has gained belong to the people of Caloria. If I want honor, it is for his country. If I want the box, it has to be for the people.
------------------------------------------------------------------ Novel 8. ch.6 -more praising-
Unlike me, Wolfram is a certified pretty boy so no matter what outfit he wears it looks good on him. Even so, it's a surprisingly simple and normal outfit for him.
------------------------------------------------------------------ Novel 8. ch.6 -Yeah, go talk to Wolfram -
At that moment I finally felt several gazes upon me. They weren't from the people dancing nearby. Those people were completely indifferent. They were engrossed in politics and dancing. Then the gazes were probably those of my guardian Josak and my overseer Wolfram. Looking around in all directions… over there. The third son was standing by the southern window visibly disgruntled. He had a glass in each hand and both of them were empty.
"Flynn, Wolfram is over there so go have a chat with him."
------------------------------------------------------------------ Novel 8. ch.6 -A little input from Murata's POV-
“I followed you because it would be dangerous for you to go walking around by yourself, but… I’m worried that His Majesty might do something annoyi-… perform a deed that commoners would never think of. I informed His Excellency Wolfram about the situation before I left, but despite appearances he’s like that too… Oh, honestly! To think guarding His Majesty and Your Highness at the same time would be so difficult!”
“Yeah, leaving Shibuya and Lord von Bielefeld together will be a lot more fun~.”
“That’s not what I-”
------------------------------------------------------------------ Novel 8. ch.8 -Yuuram and T-zou scene-
"Yuuri!"
"I'm here."
Looking relieved at hearing my response, Wolfram comes running forward.
"Who are these people!? Or perhaps I should ask who they are."
"Those are kind of difficult questions."
In the battle of 30 versus 15… 16? About 17. However you looked at it, the smaller group seemed superior. There were only two swordsmen on horses, so being maneuverable seemed to be an advantage. Also, the group with assorted clothes and weapons fought dirt-… er, cunningly. None of them were fighting one-on-one and none of them went in for a direct attack from the front.
I ended up behind Wolfram and T-Zou and I leaned back on the muddy carriage wheel.
The world is a large place, but I might be the only man who has been protected by a sheep. It's a depressing thought.
------------------------------------------------------------------ Novel 8. ch.8 -aww, language-
"Yuuri!"
"Whoa, huah!?"
I had only let my attention stray for a few seconds, but a knife had stuck into the cloth canopy behind me. It was only a few centimeters from my ear. It looked like it had been struck with something that set it off course right before my eyes. Maybe someone threw a rock.
"What do you mean, 'huah!?' Don't say 'huah!'"
Wolfram was fairly strict with language.
------------------------------------------------------------------ Novel 8. ch.8 -I'm telling you this 16 y/o's gonna end up with all the legal vices-
The man in the Shimaronian military uniform urged his new master along and turned his back. If it will divert my misery, I'll give up my abstinence from alcohol and tobacco.
I must have been making quite a pitiful face because Wolfram lightly touched my elbow. His tone was much gentler than usual.
"Do you remember what I said to you?"
"What? You've said a lot of things to me so I have no idea."
He sheathes his sword that was cleaned of blood. It made a clinking sound of the end of battle.
"… That the foolish one is Conrart."

The Power of Looking
“Looking involves learning to interpret and, like other practices, looking involves relationships of power....
To be made to look, to try to get someone to look at you or at something you want to be noticed, or to engage in an exchange of looks, involves a play of power.” - Sturken, M. Cartwright, L. (2004) Practices of Looking.
My thoughts: To me, the power of looking in today’s modern society involves surveillance and security that becomes our everyday of others looking out for us. This could involve malicious intent or it could be what we need to keep safe/have evidence.
The Panopticon
Tumblr media
This method ensured the safety of inmates so that it would not be simple to get away with crimes within the prison. This is one example of how  The Panopticon Is used in modern society to uphold the law. I also found that  the Panopticon was a metaphor that allowed Foucault to explore the relationship between 1.) systems of social control and people in a disciplinary situation and, 2.) the power-knowledge concept. In his view, power and knowledge comes from observing others. Furthing the example of it’s history.
Power:
Power is reinforced through language
Bodies act under strict constraints of power exercised by institutions
The Power of Subversion
Gender is a social construct and is performative
The structure of power is Patriarchal

RESEARCH QUESTIONS
Drawing Power: How depictions of superheros have changed in the Marvel Universe from the 1960s to the present day -
When asking myself the question of “Why are we so obsessed with superhero movies?”, I came to think about the reality's that it allows us to enter, making us live out a fantasy world that we all know can never happen in real life. Not only is it a way to free our minds, it is a mirror of human experience that brings it more close to home, relating the characters to the audience.
A post-structural analysis of Power and Illustration in the graphic novels of Frank Miller  -
Miller’s comics sparked a legacy of profound grittiness and raw emotion in his groundbreaking stewardship of DC Comics' iconic Batman. With batman being the iconic figure that he is today its a huge relation to power for both Frank Miller and Batman. Frank rises to fame by creating a superhero that is the intimate expression of power and control.
Power Play: A history of Alan Moore mocking authority -
Alan Moore is an English writer known primarily for his work in comic books including Watchmen and V for Vendetta, Both films structure the use of power around justice and crime, very real things of today that make the writers bring in what they already know from the world and shape it to be much more fun!
Imbalance of power: Becoming Unbecoming and readdressing female histories -
In today’s culture, feminism is widely celebrated (for good reason) due to the many years of repression by men and the rest of the world. Because women were ‘to be seen and not heard’ around the 1800 hundreds right up until the 1950s, were women decided to take a stand. For example the Suffragettes fought for the right to vote in public elections, something that was highly frowned apon was the beginning of the rise of female history, as for the first time it gave women the right to live their own life and beat repression.

MY THOUGHTS:
By recycling the materials of old furniture and recreating them brand new once again gives new life and narrative to family's, it can bring happiness to a new home by reliving again.  They first brought back their finds making the recycled furniture in their workshop, but they soon realised it made more sense to build the tables, stools and chairs directly on site, making art in their spare time.

POTENTIAL RESEARCH QUESTIONS:
From one to many: how Greta Thunberg’s perseverance made a difference in a world of indifference -
I believe is is mostly due to her age, as the adults of the world live each day seeing the same 20 - 50 something talk about global warming it don’t seem to faze anybody but due to her age people are seeing this as a child who should be playing but instead is fighting to save the world, that’s why people listen know. she has made a difference through global meetings and speeches about the crisis we undergo daily and seems to have a following big enough to change.
Say Nothing, Do Nothing, Be Nothing: the purpose of the Crit in Art and Design -
In the lecture we naturally discuss the importance of being our own critique and making our judgements through our our thoughts and experiences. It is also extremely important that we allow others to get engaged with projects for feedback . In art and design this could mean many things, for instance by judging others work your allowing yourself to let their opinions into you life.

Subcultures Subversion

Dominant/Deviant culture Conspicuous Consumption
Punk Culture Jamming
Utopia/Dystopia
Dominant culture. A Dictionary of Sociology. . Encyclopedia.com.
Dominant culture:  a dominant culture is one that is able, through economic or political power, to impose its values, language, and ways of behaving on a subordinate culture or cultures. This may be achieved through legal or political suppression of other sets of values and patterns of behaviour, or by monopolizing the media of communication.
Subculture: Subcultures are smaller groups within the larger culture that have slightly different—or additional—traditions and ideas. They tend to share much in common with the larger culture and typically interact with members of the majority on a regular basis. Most people belong to at least one group that can be classified as a subculture.
Feminist Critique:
The role of women/girls is largely ignored.
The experience of youth is gendered.
Wider gender politics can be investigated through the study of youth subcultures.
Haul Girls
“In fact, the closest thing to the old model of a subculture I've come across is Helina and the haul girls. Their videos are about conspicuous consumption: a public display of their good taste, carefully assembled with precise attention to detail. When you put it like that – and at the risk of incurring a fatwah from middle-aged Paul Weller fans – they sound remarkably like mods.”
-Alexis Petridis
Conspicuous Consumption:
A term introduced by the Norwegian-American economist and sociologist Thorstein Veblen in his book "The Theory of the Leisure Class" (1899). The term refers to consumers who buy expensive items to display wealth and income rather than to cover the real needs of the consumer.
These images of decadence can also offer the opportunity to imagine a very different world, where wealth is not simply defined by money and possessions but by good health, valuable experiences, and the strength of social relationships.
Tumblr media
UTOPIA AND DYSTOPIA
Hieronymus Bosch
The Garden of Earthly Delights is the modern title given to a triptych oil painting on oak panel painted by the Early Netherlandish master Hieronymus Bosch, between 1490 and 1510, when Bosch was between 40 and 60 years old. It has been housed in the Museo del Prado in Madrid since 1939.
I believe that the painting is a clear representation of what haven, purgatory and hell were perceived to look like at that time. Another use of power in this painting as it makes people act proper in their life to control order through fear of ending up in hell.

Lawyer: Ex-Guatemala dictator Efrain Rios Montt dies at 91
GUATEMALA CITY /April 1, 2018 (AP)(STL.News)— Former dictator Efrain Rios Montt, who seized power in a 1982 coup and presided over one of the bloodiest periods of Guatemala’s civil war as soldiers waged a scorched-earth campaign to root out Marxist guerrillas, died on Sunday, his lawyer said.
Lawyer Jaime Hernandez said the family told him the 91-year-old died of a heart attack.
Rios Montt was convicted in 2013 of genocide and crimes against humanity for the massacre of 1,771 indigenous Ixil Mayans by security forces under his command.
But the ruling was swiftly set aside and a new trial ordered, dismaying human rights activists and victims who long sought to see him punished for atrocities during his 17-month regime.
In October, his trial on genocide charges resumed behind closed doors after being suspended for more than a year while his lawyers argued that he was too senile to participate, with no memory and unable to make decisions.
He is survived by his wife, two children and several grandchildren.
An ex-general known for inspiring fear and giving speeches at a near-shout, Rios Montt was later a longtime member of congress and one of the most influential figures in Guatemalan politics for more than three decades.
Born June 16, 1926, in the city of Huehuetenango, in western Guatemala’s highlands, Rios Montt grew up in a conservative Roman Catholic family.
He entered the army in 1946 as a cadet and, over a long career, held nearly every military post there was: troop assistant, platoon commander, instructor, defense secretary. He attended the U.S.
School of the Americas in the 1950s, and became a brigadier general in 1972.
Rios Montt first ran for president in 1974 but lost amid allegations of electoral fraud and was sent to the Guatemalan Embassy in Spain as military attache.
In March 1982, he seized power in a military coup and promptly suspended the constitution, disbanded congress and set in motion a ruthless counterinsurgency campaign that resulted in thousands of deaths. According to a U.N. truth commission, the worst atrocities of the 1960-1996 Guatemalan Civil War took place during his rule.
Nonetheless he continued to receive the support of the United States, where President Ronald Reagan called him “a man of great personal integrity and commitment.”
Rios Montt’s government was known for faceless judges presiding over summary trials of suspected subversives, and for moralistic Sunday night TV messages from the strongman who had become a born-again evangelical Christian.
“A man who has two women is a pig; a woman who has two men is a hen,” he said in one, using slang that translates roughly as a woman of loose morals.
In power, Rios Montt alienated a broad spectrum of society, including the military, businesspeople and the Catholic Church, leading to his ouster by another putsch in August 1983 led by his own defense minister.
However he remained popular among many for his social welfare initiatives and for the relative peace his “iron fist” approach brought to some regions. In 1985, a clause was added to the constitution barring him and his progeny from seeking the presidency.
But Rios Montt remained in politics, founding a new conservative party in 1990 and entering congress a decade later when political ally Alfonso Portillo was elected president.
In 2003, Rios Montt was finally able to make another run for president after the Constitutional Court allowed his candidacy. He came in a distant third — in part due to scandals under the government of Portillo, who would later plead guilty in the U.S. to laundering millions of ill-gotten dollars through American banks.
For years Rios Montt enjoyed immunity from prosecution as an elected member of congress. That changed when he lost re-election in 2011 and was ordered into house arrest.
After more than 100 legal appeals were exhausted, his 2013 trial was seen as a historic opportunity to hold a Latin American dictator responsible for abuses committed on his watch.
Dozens of witnesses testified about rapes, massacres, forced displacement and other crimes by soldiers that, prosecutors argued, Rios Montt either ordered or must have known about.
Smartly dressed in a suit and shoes polished to a shine, the former general vehemently maintained his innocence: “It was never my intention or my goal to destroy a whole ethnic group. … I never ordered attacks on a specific race.”
Rios Montt was convicted and sentenced to 80 years. But practically before the ink on the ruling had time to dry, the ruling was tossed over trial irregularities and a new proceeding ordered.
With Rios Montt by then in his late 80s and reportedly suffering from heart disease and spinal problems, human rights watchdogs feared the setback meant he would never be convicted.
At a hearing in January 2015, he was wheeled into court on a gurney ashen-faced, clad in pajamas, covered with a blanket and wearing dark sunglasses. It was a far cry from the man Guatemalans knew: diminutive of stature but with a booming voice, commanding presence and penetrating gaze.
A three-justice panel ruled that one of the judges had to recuse herself, delaying the retrial indefinitely.
Rios Montt was married to Maria Teresa Sosa and had three children: Adolfo, who joined the army, participated in his father’s coup and was killed in 1984 in a rebel downing of a military helicopter; Zury, who was elected to Guatemala’s congress and in 2004 married then-U.S. Rep. Jerry Weller (R-Ill.); and Enrique, who also went into the army and served as defense minister.
According to the United Nations, some 245,000 people were killed or disappeared during Guatemala’s 1960-1996 civil war, with the vast majority of the killings attributed to the army or paramilitary groups.

Alison's dad is often shaded in too, zdrowie-bloguani.info which represents that he is having concerns, which are apparent throughout the memoir. Mozart additionally angered his daddy through weding Constanze Weber, a vocalist off a bad household in 1782. I am actually lensrolling this to my Fatality from a familied member where I composed a handful of poems regarding my father and stepfather and also gramps's passing. The papa from the bridegroom as well as perhaps the bride-to-be herself or even her cleaning lady of tribute observes this.
This might feel like aged practice however you could also call this an ability gave from production to creation to maintain a household craft. A daddy figure is vital to the health and wellness of a child's emotional and emotional development. While he was an author on Saturday Night Live, the developers determined to offer him a spoof from his own on the Weekend break Update sector, as Father brown Guido Sarducci. There were pioneers, for the most part discharged soldiers, unfamiliar to a worked out lifestyle, poor, and also a lot of all of them intoxicated old guys, that tramped off monastery to monastery just to become supplied. This was assumed; just what astounded me the most was that the mommy appeared to be as distraught as the dad. In November 1965, Edward's dad left property after he found yet another lady, as well as family life began to backslide. This aspect from father personality addresses the participant's belief in a Divinity or humane being who watches over as well as aids the person in his/her daily lifestyle. And yet very most dads face this as if a daddy is only the company and absolutely nothing additional. The 34-year-old service technician, which can easily certainly not be actually named to secure his daughter's identity, faces pair of charges from raping his at that point 14-year-old child, in between November 2014 as well as January 2015. Tom Round is not the first daddy that has dedicated self-destruction on the steps from The United States's court of domestic relations. It is actually been difficult to switch over coming from a nurturing, overprotective papa to a loving, intimately active guy - frequently in the very same day or week. That weekend, after I shook off my brand-new bitterness at him, I began considering what my dad had actually regularly said. Boy of Vittal Mallya and Lalitha Ramaiah, his father was a well-known manufacturer which chaired the United Breweries Group as well as Kingfisher Airlines.
