Weyland the Smith
I love the English countryside; it has an ancient whisper and a magical hue that I have never experienced before, even here on this island called Ireland. Last year I took my son to Stonehedge. He’d always wanted to go, and I’d always promised him I would. The other items on his little stone bucket list were Dragon Hill and Wayland’s Smithy. Set deep in the Oxfordshire countryside just off the…

It's Aro Week! I'm going to spend it talking about some of my published aromantic characters.
Today: Smith from
Catch the World's Desire (out later this year): Star-crossed lovers makes a grand tale, but when it's over, someone has to pick up the pieces. That 'someone' is usually Rhoda.
Smith (Sometimes called Hephaestus, Vulcan, or Weyland) is thoughtful, patient, determined, and hard-working. He is a crafter, and sees everything through that lense, whether it's crafting a relationship, a necklace, or the hinge for a door. Married to Rhoda, and foster parent to all the hurt, grieving, and traumatised kids that pass through their family, Smith is the calm centre of things. Demi-romantic and asexual, he's more interested in building relationships slowly and surely into something that lasts, than in falling in love at first sight.
A short sample: Smith barely looked up when Rhoda stalked into his forge. Instead, his focus remained on the fire as he worked the bellows and coaxed the coals to the temperature he wanted.
"I need to work off some frustration," she said, twisting her long hair up into a thoroughly practical, but no less beautiful, bun. She slipped a leather apron over her dress and looked up. "What can you offer?"

Long Labored Lug
Long labored Lug, beloved of Weyland,
Marvels he made here, many and wondrous
,Rich and rare he wrought well with hand-strokes,
Fine stones and fire formed he together.
Beasts made our Baron, best upon  Midgard,
Look on these Lughies, love in your heart.
Touch you these tokens; take them up gently-
Lug's memory lasts, though life finds its ending.
(A caption provided for a exhibited collection of Anglo-Saxon brooches crafted by Baron Lug the Black of Blackstone Mountain, and blessed memory. "Lughies" is an affectionate nickname for such treasures he made. Weyland was the wonder-working smith of Old English mythology.)~Morien

Johnny lingo

#Johnny lingo movie#
#Johnny lingo skin#
When the title character of Weyland?s first novel converts to the church, she spends hours sewing sleeves on her dresses to make them appropriate for her new life. Novels like Jack Weyland?s Charley had reinforced that idea. I had grown up in the Mormon culture region where tank tops and short skirts were considered immodest and improper.
#Johnny lingo skin#
The answer to that question lies partly in the differing expectations of modesty for people based on their geographic region and skin color. At that moment, my thought was quite simply, ?What gives?
#Johnny lingo movie#
Yet, here was a Mormon movie that was showing off parts of the male body. Taking off your clothes, wearing midriff tops, and bearing your knees and shoulders were supposed to be things you did to piss of your more conservative neighbors. I associated nakedness and being scantily clad with surreptitious activities that people participated in on Friday and Saturday nights. What shocked me was that it was a Mormon man who was standing around without any clothes on. I had taken swimming classes at the domed indoor swimming pool in my hometown, had watched appreciatively as my brother?s friends played skins-and-shirts basketball, and had stood on the sidelines when several of my classmates ? male and female ? had stripped their clothes off and run naked in the snow as part of my school?s annual Finney Fun Run. It wasn?t that I hadn?t seen a man?s nipples before. When the movie came on, the first thing I thought after a decade or longer absence was, ?Oh my gosh, I can see his nipples!? We popped some popcorn, put in the DVD, and curled up in some blankets. I remember more of the confetti cake and sprinkles than I do of the movie that night, but I enjoyed it enough that I insisted that Liz and I watch it one night after the Joseph Smith Summer Seminar. I first watched Johnny Lingo at my cousin?s birthday party. This post tries to think about Mormon literature expansively and thus, takes as its subject a film that has sometimes been referred to as the ?fourth Mormon gospel.? Next week, Susanna Morrill gives us her take on Mormon teen romances. This is the first substantive post in a series about Mormon literature and the creation of a history of Mormon girls.

....after three/four fails, may have something.
Started post-apoc hillbilly setting, found myself suddenly in a pity thing, said no Cut the pity part, Huginn showed up, there was discussion of Hervor that I was not fond of, said no Started a space prison thing -- I mean, if you were a government and found out that the greatest engineer of legend, the literal forger of Excalibur and Joyeuse was still alive, wouldn’t you imprison him like King Nidur did? -- said no
Went back to post-apoc hillbilly setting and am poking about a bit w/the Ross Pack
No guarantees, but I’m feeling better about this than I did the others.  So.  We’ll see.  It’s in handwriting because Volundr deserves handwriting.
Norse history type folks and Norse Pagans -- were there wolf berserkers or were they all bears?

Meet the RvB OCs! Agent California, or Callie. Low enough on the board not to have been noticed by PFL’s Command, but high enough not to be... MIA. He’s a talkative sort, thinks every one on the Leaderboard is absolutely out of their minds. The AI Fragments, from the Top XI - (Trait: Love). An older AI fragment, and while structurally sound in programing, he was proven to be more of a handful in tests. Classified as a “Jealousy Fragment”, and he was troublesome enough that he couldn’t be stored with other AI (and thus wasn’t at Command when the EMP went off). - Created based on the fact that the Xi symbol is in the Meta Symbol, and not Theta, and that there was a Love / Greed trait unassigned on CT’s drive. TAU - (Trait: Duty / Security). An AI fragment formed based from two events. When Alpha split Epsilon, on hearing the death of Agent Washington and Tex. And a final event, when Alpha was implanted into Jimmy. Tau here remained with the Alpha until the death of Jimmy’s body. His blue form and his southern drawl has influenced Church’s memory of Jimmy. He is considered a “Melancholic Fragment”, and deemed safe. He was not at Command when the EMP went off. - Created based on the Trailer Meta Symbol. - As well as a quick and easy explanation for “Cecil”, the Ghost Church in S3 (In amidst the Church Iterations). - And the fact that Church would get along with Barney Calhoun and everybody knows it. LAMBDA (Trait: Forbearance) An AI fragment formed during the BGChronciles. You’d know him better as “Yellow Church”. He’s got patience, or at least apathy, for days, wearing no armor but the suit and a trench coat. He is considered a “Melancholic Fragment” and deemed safe. He was not at Command when the EMP went off. - Created based on both Yellow Church and the Trailer Meta Symbol. - Yellow Church doesn’t actually know Blood Gulch, based on his second appearance. And is likely half the reason Caboose thinks Grif is Yellow, even though his mental image of Grif is Orange. And the last. JOYEUSE A long lost Smart AI, apart of four significant smart AIs that were made in the year 2549 but lost (When her ship crashed on Chorus). - Durandal for Marathon. - Cortana for Halo. - And an HC; That Alpha’s name is “Almacia” - The four swords, made from Weyland the Smith in the Matter of France. And Joyeuse? Is Charlemagne’s Sword.

💎Dwarves👑
Zwerc(old high German)Dvergr(old Norse) Dwearg(old English) Svartalfar?
Dwarves are Germanic entities that live in or around stones and mountains. Usually depicted as short hairy men, a dwarf can appear any size and shape. They dislike the sun and may turn to stone if exposed. They have kings and no real associations with the Gods, though Loki comes close. Brothers live or work together and they identify themselves by thier father's name. Thier women almost never interact with outsiders.
The origin of Dwarves is unknown. Snorri Sturleson has multiple versions. In one story they're created from the maggots(worms) on Ymir's body. In the Voluspá two already exist. In the Gylfaginning there were four.
Dwarves are skilled Smiths, creating the treasures(ex. Freyja's Brisingamen) and weapons of the Norse gods. Many of the objects they forge are cursed. This is especially true if they're forced to make the thing.
Dwarves are skilled in galdr and other magic. They created poetry and are excellent musicians and healers. They can also bring illness, though they don't seem to be as prolific as elves.
In some stories dwarves foster heroes, Siegfried for example. They also apprentice heroes, like Weyland. Some guard treasures, like Andvari. It is believed by some dwarves are guardians of the underworld because of thier association with mountians.
Dwarves aren't just in Norse myth and modern fantasy. The also appear in German folklore. Dwarves appear in romances as well, especially Middle German.
