Akudama Drive Character Opinions/Thoughts Pt. 2

Heyo!! <3 Here’s Pt. 2. I can’t believe this has two parts OMG. Remember that these are just my opinions so feel free to disagree with me! This was just a ramble I did for fun. I know it’s different from what I normally post, but hey! I wanted to try something new. :D

Cutthroat: I think I have a special place in my heart for white haired, crazy psychopaths, oop. (Juuzou Suzuya and Rui*) I adored Cutthroat from the very first moment I saw him. [Side note: I’m kind of disappointed that the show went with the pronoun “He” (I was super excited to have a nonbinary character, but alas.] Those little moments in the beginning with Swindler and Cutthroat were weird, but surprisingly wholesome at times and I really loved when he ate the tin of marshmallows, dropped the knife (you know when xD), and pressed all the buttons on board the airbus. I equally loved the serious side of him that showed that he was much more intelligent than he let on (that scene where he throws his knives to reach the button; Episode 3). I just thought that those two different personalities mixed in with the childlike-psychoticness was super refreshing (even if we’ve seen characters like him before). But as much as I love Cutthroat, I have mixed feelings about his death in episode 9. I know some people are angry at Swindler for killing him, but honestly I think it kind of had to be done what with the way that he was acting towards her (love vs. bloodlust. IT'S nOT lOvE). So while I’m definitely sad boi over him dying, I do admit that he was genuinely terrifying during his last moments. (Haha I prefer the Cutthroat that spends his day eating marshmallows, thank you!!)

Brother: Toilet Bound Hanako-Kun anyone? Lmaoo. I liked him a lot. I thought he was a cutie and I really admired the strength/resilience he showed in trying to protect his Sister (something that I’m sure was endearing to a lot of us). I was definitely aware that the two of them were Sus from the beginning when we saw them on board the Shinkansen, but I never could’ve imagined the ending! I originally predicted them being the bad guys of the story and that the Akudama would have to ally with the Executioners. But all in all I’m SO RELIEVED the two of them were able to escape to somewhere better. I loved the role that Swindler played within their lives (even for a short time) and how she helped Brother and Sister show more outward emotions to one another. Also that scene where he was surprised at all the swear words Sister learned was so funny. xD 

Sister: I was suspicious of both Brother and Sister from the very beginning and really didn’t have strong feelings for either of them. Sort of like. “Yay kids…?.” But I’m so glad that Sister really found herself with Swindler and was able to become more expressive and more child-like. It hurts to know that these two children can and never will have normal lives/childhoods, so in a really sad way Swindler was able to give Sister a glimpse into a normal life during her last few days. ;-; I really can’t say much more about Sister, besides the fact that I’m genuinely very happy that the two of them were able to continue living on hopefully in a better place. Her moments with Swindler and Courier were so cute!! And the way that she repeated everything they said was adorable. Also. HER OUTFIT slayed. I was so touched by the sisterly relationship that Sister and Swindler had. <3 

Executioner (Master): DayUM SiR save some of that badasseryness for the rest of us. He was super cool and I think his entire arc around his death was super well done!! A truly Breathtaking end to his life. While watching the show I definitely acknowledged how strong he was, but overall apart from that I can’t say I really had any particular feelings towards him. I have a confession: I didn’t really react too much to his death (I’m sorryyy I’m a terrible person). I appreciated more so about what he allowed for story-wise, I think he was a great example for the moral ambiguities between Akudama and Executioner/the moments between him and his pupil were great, but that’s about it. I think his final moments were very powerful and I could tell that he cared about his pupil a lot so that’s nice, especially in the context of her character growth later on in the show...which is amazing!! 

Executioner (Pupil): I really wished she would have joined the Akudama side. I obviously know that that would never happen, but it would’ve been amazing for her to question the actions of the executioners and change sides. We see that she isn’t driven in the same way that her boss or her teacher were and seemed genuinely affected when the little girl told her that her parents were killed in the riots. It would’ve been so cool to see her fight against Doctor alongside Hoodlum, Courier, Swindler in the train station (Side note: If the circumstances had been different, I don’t think she would’ve allowed Doctor to get her way like that, but who knows?). Another thing I loved was seeing the time lapse between her being a dedicated student to becoming almost a replica of her teacher (scar of some sort with a fierce determination to fight alone), but unlike her teacher, I felt more inclined to like her for whatever reason. I just felt that it would’ve been great to see her rise up against the Executioners and question her own morals further (even if that might have included sparing some Akudama’s lives). But overall, I liked her more as the season progressed. Go Girl! 

Executioner (Junior): This POOR boy had it rough. I mean signing on to be the junior apprentice of an Executioner during all of this?! And also the fact that Doctor literally pierced his heart with a needle AND he later got shot (possibly killed?) Like leave him alone! :00 Haha, but seriously, he seemed super nice and almost seemed like the Executioner equivalent to Swindler (not entirely sure what they’re doing/gets pulled into the mess of the Akudama, etc.). I thought he was super cute. :3

Boss: She was lowkey a bad bitch tho not gonna lie. I found her super cool with a great sense of authority...that is until she ordered all of the citizens to literally be slaughtered. I can understand why she issued the first order of having all the citizens be turned into Akudama, but then like just killing all of them that were rioting?? NOOO. I’m not quite too sure what else I should say about her? I thought she was interesting and would’ve liked to see her fight, or her own past (she seems older so backstory of the Executioners would’ve been fun!) 

Black Cat (A.I) : While parts of Brother and Sister’s backstories were a little lost on me, I liked the addition of Black Cat as sort of a mini-catalyst to the entire hijacking mission in the beginning. I think the cat had a great presence in the first episode (almost a symbol of bad luck from the moment Swindler finds them...OoooOO). Not much to say apart from the fact that like. Yup. That's a robot cat. [Side note: Sort of reminds me of Monokuma xD)

Hey so I’ve recently read and fell in love with Blue Exorcist and particularly enjoyed Shima Renzo! Where do you think his arc is headed and what is his role in the grand scheme of things?

Hi! Ah I’m so happy you gave this series a try, I find that in Western fan communities it tends to be quite underrated, despite selling a lot in Japan. :)) 

About Shima, so I don’t know exactly how we’re supposed to get there, but eventually I think the point of his character arc is for him to stop running away from what he feels regarding his family, his friends and the Myo Dha sect, so that he’ll end going back to them out of his own desire. 

The whole spy thing started literally as the opposite, after all:

So in my opinion, it’d make sense that Shima would end up betraying the sides he’s currently spying for (that is to say both Illuminati and, if there is a need to, the Order as well), because at some point the Myo Dha (his family, Suguro and Konekomaru) will be in danger and he’ll want to save them. 

It’s kind of the same thing as him not killing Izumo’s familiars with Yamantaka, when she tried to run away from Gedoin during her own arc, no matter if you think that he was following Mephisto’s orders or not. We know he’s sweet on Izumo, so maybe he just wasn’t resolved enough to make her even sadder.  

In any case, I truly think he means it when he says he’s enjoying his job, but in my opinion that’s mostly because this job is allowing him to escape something he currently can’t stand:

You only have to look at Juuzou’s wedding (ch90/91) to notice that he’s always trying to stay away from his family, most likely because he has issues with the fact he sees himself as some sort of replacement for Takezou, his elder brother who died (protecting him and Suguro) during the Blue Night:

Clearly, he hates that his elder brother died for his sake and is being revered for it, because now he’s the one who has to live with carrying his brother’s sacrifice:

And, again it’s just my opinion, but that could be why he’s barely motivated to train with Yamantaka. It’s not about him being lazy, it’s just that Yamantaka is yet another thing that he directly inherited from Takezou and, even if that’s allowing him to be a double spy, he still “doesn’t want that to control him”. 

For me, Shima Renzou is a character that’s simply screaming “let me be who I want to be and not a copy of the elder brother who died for my sake” and honestly? I totally understand. I used to think his family was really pushing the comparison with Takezou on him, before it was revealed that everyone in his family knew and was against him becoming a spy.

Obviously, his family isn’t unrelated to why he’s feeling like that (all this speech about honor, becoming an exorcist for the Myo Dha, protecting Suguro, etc), so I think it’s important that he eventually confronts them about this (or even better, that they come to save him so that they can show him he matters as who he is), otherwise he’ll never change his mind about himself, them and the Myo Dha. 

…I’m sorry I’m rambling, but crack theory, actually I am hoping that Shima leaving Illuminati will happen at the same time as a completely hypothetical confrontation between Mamushi and Todo. I mean…

I’m not sure Mamushi will stay put forever and it’d be nice for her to have the chance to face Todo about how he manipulated her for years. Because now Mamushi is happy, she stopped having doubts about the Myo Dha and she married into the Shima family, so her bringing back Renzou to them would be #best development for me, even though we’re clearly not there yet. xD

Anyway, the point is, from the moment Shima was clearly bothered by the way Lightning was using Suguro, it means he’ll never manage to fully leave the Myo Dha behind to be a spy. 

That’s why I think eventually he’ll quit being a spy because he’ll want to save people who are important to him. Or they’ll be the ones saving him, because he’ll be the one in trouble. Either way, going back to the people who matter to him is how I see his character arc ending. :)

even back in 2013-2014 when i was first into dangan, i got a couple friends to watch the anime. so that’s a yes! :)

i recommend it because, primarily, i need friends to talk about my hyperfixation to - but also because it’s genuinely a great series in my opinion. it has its flaws, but overall i really love danganronpa !

Okay. Where do I begin?

When I first saw the summary of this fic last year around May, in my mind was, ‘What a dark fic. Seems very dark and deep, and a lot of characters. Nah, I’m not reading it.’ But then because Hamliet updated her fics very frequently, this fic was always on the first page of Touken fic list. So one night (because most of us read fanfics at night time or 3am and ended up not sleeping the whole night because of it) I gave it a chance and it caught my interest. I wanted to know how fucked up they are, how good these RAs in handling these fucked up kids, and how everything will turn out alright in the end.

But what intrigued me the most was the AU set up. There’s not much AUs in TG fandom, and this AU settings, along with the canon materials that Hamliet included in, and how most of the characterizations fits them really well, was what made this fic attractive. You’ll sympathize with Kaneki all the time even until almost the end because that’s just who Kaneki is – even in the manga. There were a lot of funny scenes that left me laughing and giggling, and there were some suspense scenes that made me blurted “Oh my God!” in a train (because I read this fic in the train to office lol), and when something happened to Juuzou I was at the end of the escalator and just stopped moving, completely frozen (luckily there wasn’t anyone behind me or else they’ll bump into me because it’s a freaking escalator). She made me cried too during the Kirishima family reunion scene. Sobs. That was beautiful. I loved how deep I was in reading this fic that I didn’t care about my surroundings hahaha XP

As a fan of Les Miserables, the addition of the narration and comparison was greatly done! Really, really, really love the final chapter where the play happened and each one of them had their own interpretation and how they are accepting themselves into this world. This fic is deep, really, and it taught me that we are all loved, we have meaning to someone and we don’t have to try hard just to feel loved. It’s almost as deep as Fullmetal Alchemist so I’m really grateful for the opportunity to read this fic. I’m sorry for taking a break reading it but hey, better late than never.

Also, this fic is a huge bonus if you ship a lot of pairings in TG. Heck, most of my OTPs are included and it’s just so lovely, you know? It’s like reading multiple fics all in one fic, and they are all related together, working together to save Kaneki (and other characters of course). As a big Touken fan I was very particular in details of each moment they had, and I love how subtle and also not so subtle she made those scenes. (it’s even more subtle in Hang The Moon and I still love it). Their subtle body contact, their frequent texting, and when he asked her to dance with him – gosh. Every moment was lovely! When they kissed I was sooo happy but so sad at the same time because Kaneki was leaving. It was unfair. Why did you hurt us readers? T.T

I do feel bad for Hide because Kaneki basically kinda pushed him away, well that’s what happened in the manga anyways and I love this fic more for being loyal to it but at the end when Kaneki came to save Hide I’m just T____T

And I LOVE how everyone was SO shocked that Arieto are holding hands or even standing near each other. It’s so funny because no one would expect that. Heck, even us in fandom weren’t expecting that they were working together in the manga and it was great to see it here. Nishikimi was the first established pairing and it was also that way in the manga and I really love Nishiki’s character here. Mutsurie was lovely too, very accepting and the same goes to Tsukikana. Seidou and Kurona (dunno what the ship name is) seem really mature in this fic and because of that I love their relationship even more. Ayahina was cute (LOL when they got caught XD) and Akiramon was just beautiful especially whenever they were confronting Mado. (When Mado bawled during Akira’s play, LOL I CAN’T XD)

I really love this fic. The AU setting, the multiple OTPs, the canon materials insertion, and the great writing- of course. I’m not so picky when it comes to grammar because mine is bad, but this fic would be less enjoyable to me if it had a lot of grammar errors. But nope. It doesn’t. In addition, the writing was very good and I had a lot of favourite lines when I read it. The smut part was lovely, and the way Hamliet wrote those scenes just made your heart flutters and empathized with their insecurities. The ability to include so many characters yet you didn’t feel overwhelmed because they’re all related with each other and it wasn’t confusing because you know who they are if you read the manga. It must have been hard to include all of them but she managed to nail it, kudos to her!

Who the heck is my muse anyway:

Ayato Kirishima is a Ghoul in the series Tokyo Ghoul and Tokyo Ghoul :re - a creature exact to humans but can only survive on eating human meat [think of it like a make-shift vampire]. He is the younger brother of Touka Kirishima. After the death of his father, the siblings lived on the streets for a little while - making them rough around the edges. After they were taken in by Anteiku [a cafe run by Ghouls] Ayato decided to leave - feeling that being made to live aside humans would weaken him in a world where strength is everything. After defeating many Ghouls in Ward 13 he was invited to join Aogiri Tree - a Ghoul terrorist organization. He quickly climbed the ranks in that group and became Executive. He spent several years there as a teenager, but as an adult he showed signs of wanting to leave. His wish was granted as Aogiri Tree collapsed and he fell into joining another group alongside his sister and fellow ex-Aogiri Tree Executives - Goat. He was a quick-to-anger teenager with a negative view on the world, but grew into a more understanding young man. Even so, he is still prone to violence when the situation calls for it.

Points of interest:

Ayato is a very strong Ghoul. At a very young age (14) he was already considered to be S rank by the CCG. The third most dangerous type of Ghoul. He has then gotten stronger in :re and is now classed as SS rank. He was able to withstand and escape from a fight with Juuzou Suzuya and has taken down many CCG Doves under his sister’s persona of the rabbit to get the target off her back - dubbing him The Black Rabbit. During his time in Aogiri Tree, he often trained others to become stronger.

He is often shown to be verbally abusive towards his fellow Executives - Naki and Miza and subordinates like Hinami. But several omakes have shown they have fairly close relationships - like a family. Since they are like a family, they don’t always get along. But Ayato is quick to defend any of them if they are in danger.

Ayato hides behind this ‘edge-y’ personality to disguise what he really feels. He doesn’t want to seem weak in any regard, and he deems emotions as a weakness. He finds it incredibly difficult to communicate his true feelings for anybody, so often just resorts to cruel comments and swearing. Though some people have seen through it and understand him on a better level [e.g Kaneki]. 

According to his fact pages he likes tropical fish and rabbits - and is fixated on heights! In another omake, it is shown that Ayato as a teenager was insecure about his height - but his issues washed away when he did become rather tall as an adult.

Ayato from his teenager years and his adult years seem like two different people. If you wish to RP with an angsty, quick-to-fight and aggressive teenager: you can - and if you want a more calm but still very dangerous adult: you can!

What they’ve been up to recently:

Ayato Kirishima is currently facing death. Again. To make sure his new brother-in-law, Kaneki, gets to the source of this poison infecting the city - he is fending off mutations. All the while it is painfully obvious he too is infected by the poison.

Where to find them:

He never really gets a rest! Even though he’s with Goat now (run by the One Eyed King - Kaneki) he never gets to relax really. He is always being sent on errands - so you rarely see him in the underground headquarters where Goat lies. He spent most of his time with Goat exploring an underground city - where he found three child survivors.

Current RP plans:

I love an AU - so I really want to flesh out more of them. I’ve dabbled in some but never been able to really delve into the ideas. I have ideas such as: - Ayato being the same, but he never left Anteiku and so never joined Aogiri Tree. He was there through all of the events of TG and TG:re - He attended school when he had the opportunity to (gotta love a simplified School AU XD) - Being caught by the CCG and used for experimentation for Quinques - as his Ukaku is rather flexible as many other things...and mysteriously integrates wonderfully with the Arata armor...

Desired interactions:

I’d love to see Ayato breaking down his walls more as an adult. It will be trying for the other muse, but he’s a reliable companion once that is done. I’d love to see someone stick by him rather than let him down.

Some relationships too... [All my ships are used in the same way as AUs. So they’re in different worlds to each other]. He seems so hardy and unloveable, but there’s a heart underneath all that steel.

I really want to flesh out the prisoner-plot. Especially with any human/CCG muses. Gives me a chance to show Ayato as a broken man rather than his hard-ass self. I love explorations like that.

Some fashback-like threads would be nice too. Able to explore Ayato’s short time in Anteiku, or even further back when he was on the streets.

A lot more Touka interactions. We get barely any in the manga so I’d really enjoy fleshing out their current relationship as brother and sister after all that’s happened.

Offered interactions:

Fight Me! - basically a young Ayato wanting a scrap. That’s how he makes all his friends... ¬¬

Comfort? - He may not seem like the best person to talk to about issues, but that never stopped Hinami or the other Executives... And he helped them as much as he could.

Can’t Catch Me - mostly for CCG muses, or similar, when they go up against The Black Rabbit

Sailing Ships - If our muses have already shown chemistry - I can offer a soft-rabbit for that muse :3

Chapter 141: The Eve of Parallels

So as @i-b-a-r-a-h-i-m-e told you in our answer to a recent ask, this chapter is crucial for the development of numerous characters, mainly for Hina-chan :,( 

So in this meta, I will try to explain my personal thoughts on the chapter for all the characters involved, and here I want to say that I do not share Viktoria’s opinion on HInami’s part in TG. For me she has always been of great importance and despite being used as a plot-device several times, her development and personal road are not to be neglected. Now here are my thoughts about these characters!

Tooru Mutuski

I’ve talked about Mutsuki’s twisted personality before, and this chapter shows just another step downwards the spiral of despair, the hopeless journey of Eyepatch 2.0. There was another meta floating around that stated the obvious parallel between Kaneki and Tooru, which differs only in its end - basically, it predicted that Mutsuki would die in a final battle against Suzuya. I adore that meta cause the symbolism is absolutely on point, but I will not expand more on that. I’m just pointing this out cause I will talk about parallels a lot now, hence the title. 

Just like Kaneki, Mutsuki was associated heavily with eyes and eye-motifs. In chapter 141 of the original, the first words in the chapter are Kaneki’s last “dying” screams, after his eyes were gouged out by Arima. Well, this chapter starts with Mutsuki vs Yomo, and more specifically, Yomo’s eye being hit by Tooru’s knife.

We have seen this before already. Mutsuki always aims for the eyes in battle. They are his strong point, cause he has an amazing visual perception in battle, and is already wearing an eyepatch, so by blinding his opponent, he instantly raises his chances of winning a lot. In his confrontation with Torso in the taxi, he sliced up his eyes. He later gouges them brutally out after he escapes the cave in Rushima. He then makes his re-appearance by shooting Seidou straight in the eye with Juuzou’s knife. And now again, he aims for the eye of Raven-kun.

On this panel, we have emphasis on Mutsuki’s ghoul eye, or in other words, he is completely blinded by his psychotic urge to spread terror and kill everybody against him. This was what lead to Kaneki’s demise as well, he wanted to eradicate every evil ghoul on his way. This could mean that Mutsuki will frame-out soon, probably feasting on the almost surely dead Aura, and rampaging towards Touka, where he would find Juuzou who will have to kill him. That’s what I believe will happen, I do not have any evidence, it just feels plausible.

Shinsanpei Aura

Sigh, one of my least favourite characters, if I have to be honest. But again, his story is not to be neglected and for all we know, he might retreat to his old self soon enough, once he finds his inner peace, maybe by understanding the ghouls’ position. 

This whole chapter has been about tragic paths and Shinsanpei’s path is marked by his suppressed inferiority complex. Once he was given the power to murder as an investigator, he gave in to it and embraced the pleasure of feeling stronger than the ghouls he killed. When I read this chapter I wondered, why did he not run away? Tooru was immobilized and he had little chance of defeating Yomo. Was he scared of the shame, the guilt? My theory is that his character’s role is a “Hide wannabe”.

While Hide offered his comfort to Kaneki while he was lost in the sewers (and maybe even let him take a bite out of him?), Aura saw Mutsuki becoming a mass murdered and decided to just play along - because that was a convenient way to get to Kaneki. It was too late to help Mutsuki, or at least that’s what he thought, so he just hopped on the “Kaneki will die” bandwagon and now we’re here. I am not saying that he follows Hide’s steps. He just fits into the role. Kaneki is to Hide what Tooru is to Aura. Not exactly though, and this is why they will both reach their endgame pretty soon, at least in my opinion. 

And just something I noticed, I am almost 100% sure that Aura has been cannibalizing as well, cause there is no way he learnt how to use a detached kagune or form an eye on his kagune just by looking at Mutsuki.

Renji Yomo

As for Renji - ouch. All that beating must have hurt a lot. But anyway, with him there are less parallels than with the other characters. The only thing I can personally think of is this - he is Touka’s uncle, and even if Mutsuki doesn’t know this, he is still fighting so Touka can escape. Which makes him another obstacle in Tooru’s way to reach Touka, and by extension - Kaneki.

In a similar manner, Amon was in Kaneki’s way in TG and they both suffered severe wounds after their battle. Afterwards, Kaneki was defeated by Arima and Amon was defeated by Tatara. Now we have a similar situation. If Renji is Amon and Mutsuki is Kaneki, then the parallel is a bit grim, cause that means that Yomo will soon take part in another battle, only to be defeated there. I predict that he will be subdued by Suzuya Squad, and I am not sure whether or not he will see Touka ever again. 

After all, his life philosophy is to “live while losing others” and if he loses everything, then he will not have anything to live for. I just hope that Mutsuki does not creep behind him in the next chapter while framing out,cause that would not be pretty.

Juuzou Suzuya

He is the new Mr. Reaper. I don’t really have anything much to add here, to be honest xD 

There were already tons of metas about him and Arima and the overall parallel is pretty well-outlined. The only difference that exists here is that Juuzou has no personal motivations. I hope he gets to spare Touka and Hinami in the battle, but I doubt it. He will fight with whoever becomes the main threat, whether it is Touka and co. or Furuta starting to get on his nerves. Which means that if he encounters Mutsuki in a deranged frame-out state, he will not hesitate and will murder him on the spot. 

I’ve always personally rooted for Juuzou going astray and becoming a solo player, because neither side fits him too well. He has said it himself, peace is not really his thing so I bet that he will play on his own agenda at one point or another.

Touka Kirishima

As for Touka, the poem about the rotten womb may still be in game, the fact that Hinami got a blow to the abdomen instead does not guarantee that Touka will escape totally intact from this fight. I am sure that somebody will come to the rescue and help Touka and Hinami, because otherwise they are done for. Ishida said it himself, a force that can stop the S3 Squad is not to be found underground. 

I find it kinda ironical that this time Kaneki is above while Touka is underground, not the other way round. Kaneki is actively being kept away from the fight, but I think this will lead to his reunion with Hide, cause he is also above the surface this time. 

And maybe, just maybe, Hide and Kaneki will both get to Touka in time, cause we don’t really know where Kaneki is during Touka and Juuzou’s fight (in that 6 hours interval).

So back to Touka, I think there are numerous ways the next chapter can go:

1) Hinami will fall down and Touka will have to rush to her side. Just as Juuzou’s blade hits her, somebody will intervene - Ayato, Kaneki, Amon, Akira, the list is long.

2) She will be forced to retreat and will wander in the sewers only to meet Mutsuki and we will have another epic fight and here the baby might be in actual danger. But still, we need to know why she brought flowers to Shinohara so I think she will stay where she is for now. 

3) Juuzou will somehow change his mind and will attack Furuta, and here Touka and Hinami will both have a chance to escape.

Hinami Fueguchi

I saw many people saying that Hinami has been practically useless in the long run and has only been used as a plot device and a damsel in distress. I can see why some people think so - the Doves arc in the original and the Cochlea arc in :re were both centred around Hinami being saved/protected. 

But many people fail to notice her amazing development and her overall place in the story. Strength-wise she has matured a lot and can now use her kagune better than ever. 

Personality-wise, she has become the complete opposite of what many people bring her down to. She has joined Aogiri Tree for the sole purpose of learning how to be strong enough to protect her loved ones. She musters the courage to become an integral piece of Aogiri, as she is promoted to an executive in just 2 years. She appeared to save Kaneki from Takizawa, a very powerful ghoul as well, and despite the fact that she did not manage to defeat him, she smacked him well enough for him to use his kakuja. On several other occasions, she was the main protection as well. She defended Ayato and the others when fighting Kiyoko and Mougan, she defended Touka from Hajime and now she took another blow by Juuzou to help the others survive. 

I find some symbolism in her kagune. She inherited both the defensive kagune of her mother and the attack kagune of her father. While we did not get to see her father fight, we saw her mother against Mado, and Ryoko showed that all she cared about was protecting Hinami. While every mother would do this, this left Hinami traumatized and made her lose her belief in her own strength until she had to defeat Mado on her own. And the fact that she has an offensive kagune as well makes her an even more dangerous opponent. And this is why she will live on, unlike her mother, cause she has been born into this world to become better than her parents. She will not only defend her loved ones but she will also live on for them and won’t become a tragic memory.

As for this chapter as a whole in her development, I think that she will recover from the wound and as I said, somebody will interfere. That’s just Ishida’s style ;) 

And one last thing towards the Hinami-antis, I think that her role in TG :re is far from over, and she is not there just to serve as Touka’s walking “plot armour”. She will become one of the faces of ghouls in the future, serving as a bridge between humanity and ghouls. She has been more humane than most human characters and her weaknesses have always turned into strong points eventually.

Like, Stoki’s still my favorite Steve pairing but Stony’s really cool too…you know I ship almost everything XD (also am I the only person who sorta hated almost everyone by the end of CW? Like, of course they’re still my favs and there are still some cinnamon rolls, but, come on. Why couldn’t you all just get along ;-;)

Speaking of Illumi, do you know that Hisoka/Illumi is an incredibly popular ship in the HxH fandom? Probably because both of them are so horrible that they have like 0 friends other than each other. Nobody else wants to hang out with these losers. (Chrollo tolerates Hisoka and the adults in Illumi’s family seem to spend enough time with him to give him orders, but that’s about it.) It’s a trash ship with two trashy people and tbh I love it XD

AGH I’M ACTUALLY SORTA JEALOUS BECAUSE WOW I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA HOW TO WATCH THAT LEGALLY HERE IN KOREA. (unless I ask my dad for help but he doesn’t like manga/anime at all, so…) But yes, I’m really happy Lizzy finally got her moment this time! Now anime-only fans can’t complain about her being a ‘shallow’ character so hopefully there’ll be less fighting over Lizzy in the Kuro fandom :D

FINALLY. Fellow Death Note fan <3333 Who’s your fav? Do you have any ships? Are you done with the anime??? :D (also do you know…you picked a really interesting time to join the DN fandom. The American live-action movie just came out and it sucks so freaking bad, like I haven’t even watched it yet and just from the reviews/clips, here’s what I got:

-They turned Misa into this Harley Quinn-type character. Only without any depth.

-Light/Misa is an actual canon ship, like, it’s not abusive or one-sided like it is in the anime/manga, it’s just…a thing. Light loves Misa. Misa loves Light. It’s like every cringey high school romance movie ever, only with more murder

-They freaking bent the Death Note rules just so Light could get away with all sorts of ridiculous stuff

-L cries, L rants, L is overly emotional

-Light tells L where he hid a page from his Death Note. Light doesn’t deny being Kira. Light shows Misa his Death Note when they like barely know each other and she’s still a complete stranger to him. Light acts like an idiot.

-Oh sure, he’s Kira, God of the New World, but he still cares about going to prom with his girlfriend and making stupid faces as they pose for pictures

-So much unnecessary gore. Heart attacks are Kira’s thing, Light isn’t that emotional about his kills, he doesn’t care as long as the 'villains’ are dead, so why???

-Apparently Rem does not exist. Sayu doesn't exist either. Light’s mom is dead (probably so he can angst over her)

-Light Turner. Light TURNER. Out of all the surnames they could have chosen…

-And now, for the most unforgivable sin:

How dare they not include the Potato Chip scene)

And then random things: JJ and Light have the same voice actor. Yurio and Mello (imo…have you met Mello yet?) could be long-lost twins.

Okay, but one thing I’m wondering about, is How? Not in a malicious way or anything, I’m genuinely curious to why you ship Stoki (and where it began). Was it that redemption fic you told me about or did you ship it before? 

Tbh, I didn’t hate the characters in CW, I hated the situation. Because there’s so so much pointless conflict that could easily be solved if everyone sat down and talked like normal people. But nooo we have to go around attacking each other. ((ALSO CAP’S LETTER TO TONY, I AM DEAD))

I’ve already learned (and experienced) that shipping is a very weird and unusual thing, so I’ll be honest and say I’m not even surprised that ship exists. At least it has some basis XD

I’m actually tempted to go through the lyrics of the whole musical and find every single eye line there is, only to replace it w Illumi’s eyes.

Not only zooming in on the eyes, the word itself is louder than the rest XD man if only I could draw…

Tbh I’d say I’m responsible enough (HA, that’s more or less a lie), but I’m honestly way too irritated with the little ones to be able to have one of my own. My cousin recently celebrated her 3rd bday and I was stuck looking after her during the party, bc all the adults were talking among themselves and I swear to god, I haven’t moved that much since I had to run 2km for PE. Where do they get their energy. Not to mention the adults thought it would be a good idea to leave me w her, because I’d already drunk 3 glasses of wine (i was bored and not allowed to do anything other than stare at emptiness or look after a 3yo). Turns out my tolerance isn’t that bad after all.

Lol let’s be honest, Ishida would totally do that. He knows the fandom would riot and that’s the whole point.

I think you’d actually like the manga? It takes a pretty dark turn compared to the anime and deals with lots of mental issues (the whole theme of the later volumes is Madness). Also, lots of death XD Well, the artwork changes drastically, so which one are you talking about XD

The girl in the coat (left first pic, middle 2nd) is the same person for reference. Death the Kid was one of my first anime crushes. The guy has OCD and is a total badass. 

MUHAHAHAHA I think someone uploaded the Lizzy fight to youtube so you can probably find it there, but I am in love. The animation is beautiful, so that’s also a huge plus. All in all, it was handled really well.

So last I’ve watched is ep 25, aka the one WHERE L DIES. And i am not okay. I am nowhere near okay. Nope. Not at all.

Oh i’ve heard all about the adaptation. Tbh I find the whitewashing hilarious. Setting the movie in America removes so much of the series’s logic, so why? L being the way he is is probably my favourite mistake. They took the best character and ruined him completely.  POTATO CHIP SCENE NOOOO But my question is: did everything go just according to the keikaku?

Do you think that Yoriko will pull a Hide?

Going by how Yoriko is Touka’s Hide, do you suspect we might see a parallel to the scene where Kaneki “allegedly” ate Hide? But maybe this time, she’ll really by eaten? Okay, think of a situation like this,

Touka goes to rescue Yoriko in secret but, her presence becomes known to some CCG members. So now they’re chasing after her. Or maybe she has to fight some of them off using her Kagune which weakens her stamina and also, she’s generally weakened anyways because of lack of food, eating the human food, etc etc. She finds Yoriko, but she’s too weak to fight more CCG members, so in order to escape successfully, Yoriko, unfortunately, gives her life for Touka cuz she cares about her.

It sounds kinda far fetched cuz where does Takeomi fit in, in this scenario? Since Yoriko also cares about him…. if this theory were to be, I think that Takeomi will fight Touka along with other CCG members, causing her to get injured and incarcerated. Maybe even sedated? Furuta (Or Aura or Mutsuki w/ks) will suspect that she’s Pregnant and use this as a way to snake out Kaneki.

Knowing Furuta, he’s probably like to toy with him. Maybe capturing him and making him watch Juuzou forcefully do what he said he’d be doing in that poem to Touka? It sounds cliche and corny as hell tbh XD!

I’m just gunna call this a crack Theory. Take it as you will and please, for the love of god, give me feedback… !

Otherwise, I don’t think you can find them anywhere (in English). Two OVAs that you can find online covered two specific stories from the novels though (one about Mamushi and Juuzou, to show how Toudou came manipulate her; one about Shima being a spy).

Aww, I didn’t mind the basement thing, really! That isn’t something I’d see as a major spoiler since you didn’t tell me what was actually inside of it ^^ as for AoT, I forgot to mention that I’ve caught up with the manga now! I got so irritated at falling behind all of my fandoms and then going on tumblr like “wth new chapter already now I’ve got to avoid the spoilers but I WANNA SEE THE SPOILERS but I WANNA APPRECIATE THE TWISTS” that I went and binge-read Black Butler, AoT and TG almost all at once lol

Like you, though, I don’t know if I’m appreciating what’s going on in AoT right now. Isayama’s doing so many POV switches and focusing on so many new plot twists and info dumps that it almost feels like he’s abandoning all the old plot threads he hasn’t tied up yet. Also, he’s pulled off two time skips in quick succession now, which makes things even more confusing.

If he has a plan and knows what he’s doing this could turn out OK, but if not, well…it could become a complete and utter trainwreck.

And you know how the chorus echoes 'respect’ after that line? Sasaki’s face shows up during that echo (he did have the Q squad’s respect in his own way). Or maybe Yoshimura. I considered Arima but I have another line I want for him…

'When they died, they left no instructions’ Ryouko’s (Hinami’s mother’s) death

'Just a legacy to protect’ Hinami saving Sasaki in the auction arc. Cinnamon roll is making her parents proud.

'Death doesn’t discriminate’ anything with Arima. Maybe his death scene? The Grim Reaper never hesitated, not even when it came to his own life.

Also, the scenes with Nutcracker’s death and young Arima reaching out the window in his flashback might fit well with the last chorus (“Life doesn’t discriminate”). In fact, I feel like the most emotional scenes or the ones that show characters going through hardships would fit with the last chorus, since it’s about how hard life can be no matter who you are.

I know I want the 'Let’s go home’ scene in here somewhere but I’m not sure where it should go. It should be in a powerful, meaningful place, probably in the last chorus like the above scenes, but I can’t decide where it would have the most impact.)

I just went back and checked out some discussions in the fandom, and I’m really, REALLY sorry! But apparently the 'I’ve forgotten their names’ was an April Fool’s joke…? I’m kinda glad that there’s no deeper, more tragic meaning I could dig out from that line now, but also kind of disappointed because I was liking the contrast with Naki.

The line that was actually there is no better when it comes to feels.

I love Hinami more and more. Despite everything that’s happened she’s made it clear since a few chapters ago that she has no grudge against Akira or even Kureo Mado, and in fact, she’s the one who pulls Akira into her arms (Akira just stands there and soon starts to cry for the first time since the Anteiku Raid).

Those names do sound a bit weird XD but I’m definitely gonna watch all of those when I can! And I’ll let you know when I do!

Ah, that’s amazing! I’m glad you’re all caught up now ^^ We have a lot (A LOT) to discuss, especially about Black Butler. To sum up my feelings about it: I am dead inside. I am this close to giving up on AoT as well. However, I wish to see how my precious ray of sunshine (Armin) will fare, so I’ll have to bear with it. Hooray.

Fun facts, my amvs are horrible. Since I use a free program, they have huge watermarks and I don’t know how to add effects at all, but there’s always youtube to help hahah I’ll work on it quite soon, but I can’t guarantee how well it’ll turn out ^^ 

When thinking about how to pull it off, I was realised that using manga panels for everything would be the best way to go, as not to confuse people or make it weird. As for ‘Let’s go home’, it could probably fit well with ‘death doesn’t discriminate’, but we already have Arima for it... Oh, oh, maybe with ‘it takes and it takes’. Finding all the right panels will be a pain in the ass ;-; I’ll probably ask you a few times if you know the approximate chapter of certain scenes ^^;;

Japan was absolutely amazing! We did so many things and saw lots of new places! It’s a completely different world, that’s for sure. And my Love Live loving ass was in heaven. Seriously, I bought 4 figures (bc they’re really cheap there) and one plush toy, and they’re all related to LL. I might need help. Aaand, after watching the 4 eps of BnHA season 2, I recommend it even more! It’s a mix between serious/dark and humour and imo, it was pulled off very well ^^

- Takizawa would leave a trail of candy in the office for Suzuya to follow, just because. Heck, it might even lead him to a mountain/pile of candy in his seat. 

- Juuzou would probably attempt making delicious pineapple desserts and treats for Seidou, but in the end would steal Seidou’s share because of how surprisingly good they turned out. Seidou in return, stands pouting as he watches those pineapples goods being devoured in the mouth of the smol boi.

- Seidou: Looks like you got in trouble by the heads today.  Juuzou: Looks like you need to shut up. -has thread and needle ready-

- It isn’t so often that Seidou falls asleep in his workspace, but when he does, he wakes up to a monster reflecting off his computer screen. (his face gets drawn on or his hair is an absolute mess because of Juuzou)

- You know how Ishida said that Seidou owns a pair of Pineapple boxers? Yeah, Juuzou bought those for him as a gag novelty gift to make fun of Seidou’s love for pineapples, but Seidou loves it and wears it on ‘special’ days.~ 

- Juuzou is quite romantic. I mean. Sneaking into Seidou’s apartment window in the middle of the night is really romeo-ish right? ;) 

- Whenever Seidou has a snack hanging from his mouth, Juuzou comes in to take a huge bite of it, with their lips almost touching. Seidou would get all flustered and freak out about it. Juuzou would laugh at the other’s actions and would give him a kiss right after, shutting the other up.

- Juuzou would honestly argue with Seidou on purpose. (he thinks it’s kinda cute when seidou whines sometimes) If he doesn’t get too pissed off, he’d shut down Seidou with a big ol’ kiss on the lips and run off. Seidou would be stunned for the longest time and forget what they were even arguing about until he snaps back to reality, realizing that the argument hasn’t been settled yet. But it’s too late, Juuzou is already elsewhere.

TG:Re Selves: (It’s a lot harder to make fluff with their TG:Re selves, but I’ll do my best LOLLL leggoooo)

- (based on the recent events in :Re) When Juuzou finally reunites with Seidou, he goes up to him and places both his hands on the other’s face, smiling widely. Seidou gets flustered, but suddenly gets his cheeks pinched by the smol boi. “Welcome backkk~ “ Juuzou chimes, following with a “Wow, your cheeks are as squishy as ever.” The older stares at him with an annoyed but embarrassed expression.

- Ok but. Juuzou would honestly play with this guy’s hair since it’s like…the same length as his now. Seidou would protest, but would have no choice since Juuzou is already all up on it.

- After noticing that Seidou’s lips and nails have darkened, Juuzou tells Seidou that it actually looks nice and would put lipstick and black polish on himself to match the tall tsun tsun. 

- Since Seidou is more resilient to pain, Juuzou would stitch cute lil patterns on him all the time, hearing less (sometimes more) complaints from the other. :) 

- Juuzou would attempt to make coffee for his tol boi everyday, learning as he goes to make sure it tastes a little bit more like home.

- Seidou would give Juuzou hugs when nobody is looking because he’s gotten too shy for PDA.

- These two would help dye each other’s hair. If Juuzou’s white roots are showing, Seidou would touch it up, while Juuzou would probably dye the other’s hair all brown (his normal color) and would touch it up all the time if the white makes him feel self conscious. (Though the two would probably match from time to time TBH. Like for ex. Juuzou would dye his hair white to match Seidou, or Seidou would dye his hair black to match Juuzou’s etc. legit ghey) 

- Ghoul Seidou is more shy in PDA than when he was a human. He basically turns into the tsundere king after graduating from a tsundere prince. You’ll hardly ever see him doing stuff with Juuzou in public, but Juuzou on the otherhand….XD I think you know where this is going.

- 1v1 time, Seidou likes placing his head on Juuzou’s lap. He literally falls asleep straight away after getting some nice head rubs and adores being pet like a pupper. Makes him feel wanted and loved.

When I thought abt a common enemy unifying people I mainly thought abt the Dark Knight and how Batman decides to play the villain in the end. However, even there the third film is all abt how this illusion couldn't work forever and had negative effects on the long run. People may unify to save K? But even in that case he wouldn't get any agency. When :re co

started I thought Kaneki’s arc would have been completed when he stopped trying to fill the role of a hero and would have started to fight for his personal happiness. In this moment he is doing this in a half-assed way in the sense he wants to live with Touka, bu he still fills the role of OEK. In the beginning I thought Kaneki would have been more than a catalyst for the union of humans and ghouls than a leader and that his arc would have found its meaning in somehow helping Hide: I thought con 

that would have been a good ending because in TG we are shown how it’s mainly Hide who keeps doing things for Kaneki while he avoids him and is shown probably not to know much abt Hide’s situation despite him being his best friend. So I imagined Hide being in somehow some kund of predictment and that this time Kaneki would have been the one to help him. Well, no idea about all this will turn out. Sorry for all these asks, I am having fun discussing possible endings.

So… uh, here’s the point where I probably lose a ton of credibility with everyone and state my highly unpopular opinion: I didn’t like the Dark Knight as a film :P I know, I know, everyone loves it, I’m sorry (I don’t tend to like Christopher Nolan’s films in general, with the exception of Dunkirk). So I never saw the third film as a result. Hence I can’t comment on the similarities there, but what you describe certainly sounds possible, and like it fits with the things we know about Fruit’s plots.

Yeah, I agree with you about thinking Kaneki should develop more agency. That’s my preferred direction for the story to go, but at this point, he really has very few options left and that’s a fact. He’s going to have to eat the dead Oggai and probably take a bite out of Hajime first (run and leave the dead, Hajime, run for your life, my son; you’re currently grounded for probably forever but I still love you). I don’t see room for him to develop agency right now; however, once he heals, he may still do so if we ever get a Sun Arc (though with Juuzou’s association with XX or Judgment I wonder if the arcs are kind of overlapping rather than being strictly linear?)

As for Hide, yeah. He was super important the first half of the first TG and then marginally important and then vanished, and now appears to be coming back. I really love chiastic structures in literature, so I’m hoping that their relationship will get a focus as TG:re (or God forbid a third series) spins towards its conclusion. And there is a ton about Hide that we don’t know. He’s very mysterious. Like we don’t even know if he’s a ghoul or not (I think he is, but the question is when that happened). From what we do know, as Scarecrow, he’s been pulling the strings a bit, helping Kaneki at the auction arc, etc. I do think he has a very important role to play going forward… and he’s been associated with dragon imagery before. So whatever role he’s going to play moving forward, I do think it will be significant.

Crack theory: maybe Hide is Dragon and has Washuu roots and will appear to help Kaneki survive and then Kaneki will have to save his friend from himself. I don’t really think that’s terribly likely, but ya never know.
