Whenever Steve and Eddie go to a bar, the bartenders are always surprised by their orders. Everyone assumes that Pretty Boy Steve is going to get a complicated cocktail, something glitzy and interesting just like him. They also always think that Metalhead Eddie is going to be boring and get a tall beer or a whisky on the rocks, something hardcore to match his appearance.
In reality, Steve always gets the same Bud Light in the bottle because he doesn’t like how beer in a glass always tastes watered down. And Eddie always gets the most complicated fruity drink on the menu (sometimes recipes that he comes up with in his head). As much as he loves being drunk with Steve, he can’t stand the taste of alcohol and he needs the fruity taste to cover it. Much to the chagrin of everyone around them, this trend never changes, even as they get older.
(Depending on how drunk he gets, Eddie sometimes even calls out the bartender for judging them based on their appearances. Usually though, a kiss to his knuckles from Steve calms him down before he really gets going.)

Scofflaw
Tumblr media
A potent Prohibition-era cocktail, the Scofflaw is thus named because it -the word; not the drink!- won a contest to find a term to describe the "lawless drinker" in 1924, and bartenders certainly didn't lack a sense of humour! It is a beautiful concoction, the whisky lifted by the herbaceous fragrance of vermouth, and balanced with the sharpness of lemon, and the delicate sweetness of a dash of grenadine! One would certainly bend the law for one of these; Happy Friday!
Ingredients (serves 1):
8 ice cubes
60 millilitres/2 fluid ounces (4 tablespoons) good Canadian Rye Whisky
30 millilitres/1 fluid ounce (2 tablespoons) dry vermouth
half a lemon
2 dashes Angostura bitters
1/4 teaspoon Grenadine
Spoon ice cubes in a shaker.
Pour Canadian Rye Whisky and vermouth over the ice. Thoroughly squeeze in the juice of the lemon halve. Add two dashes Angostura bitters and Grenadine.
Close the shaker tightly, and shake energetically until well-chilled.
Strain into a chilled coupe or cocktail glass.
Enjoy Scofflaw immediately. Cheers!

All the booze in all the gin-joints in this crazy world
Bruce Sterling Jan 22, 2019 9:04 AM
*Boy, they drink a lot in the classic movie "Casablanca." Granted, they've all got plenty to drink about, but gee whiz.
*I tried to keep up while watching. I had to do some research.
“CASABLANCA,” a classic movie set in a number of cafes and bars
Wine – English couple in the opening scene are drinking wine at the outside cafe when robbed by a sly pickpocket.
Cocktail – A desperado is waiting, waiting, waiting and drinks while lamenting that he will never get out of Casablanca.
Cocktail – Man tries to negotiate a passage out of Casablanca.
Wine – Man buys passage on a fishing vessel
Wine – Women trying to get more money for jewels
Cocktail – Englishmen are served by Sascha in Rick’s bar, and toasting cheerio.
Wine – Women gambling at Rick's while drinking
Champagne glass (already empty) – In front of Rick as he is toying with a chess problem
Wine – Ugarte drinks while bargaining with Rick.
Brandy (Boss’s Private Stock) – Sascha serves the good stuff to the spurned Yvonne, because Yvonne is Rick’s private stock.
Brandy – Captain Louis Renault drinks at Rick’s. He's a steady customer, since the bar also has loose women.
Brandy – the Italian Fascist Captain Tonelli drinks while harassed by Lieutenant Casselle in Rick’s.
Brandy – Rick gives some free brandy to Renault in Rick's office.
Veuve Cliquot 1926 – The top French champagne that Renault recommends to Strasser as the Nazi crassly gobbles caviar.
Wine – Ugarte has a glass when arrested
Wine – Resistance member Berger drinks wine at the bar as Laszlo and Ilsa walk into Rick’s.
Cointreaux – Laszlo orders two for himself and Ilsa as their first of many drink orders in Rick’s.
Champagne – Captain Renault orders “a bottle of the best” when invited by Laszlo to join him and Ilsa at their table.
Champagne Cocktail – Laszlo orders one as he joins Berger to conspire at the bar.
Champagne Cocktail – Renault orders for himself and Laszlo at the bar as Berger flees.
Champagne – Renault orders some for Rick when Rick joins the Laszlo party.
Bourbon – Rick drinks American bourbon to console himself for his former mistress Ilsa somehow walking into his gin-joint, of all the gin-joints in the world.
Champagne – Rick opens a bottle of champagne in Ilsa’s flashback room in their happy liaison in Paris.
Wine – Rick and Ilsa drink in Paris at the Cafe Pierre.
Champagne – Rick, Ilsa, and Sam hastily guzzle three bottles of Mumm Cordon Rouge as the Nazis occupy Paris.
“The Bourbon” – Ferrari demands his special bourbon in his own bar, the Blue Parrot, when Rick arrives to negotiate. Somehow, Rick refuses the bourbon, saying he never drinks in the morning.
Wine – The pickpocket toasts another sucker in Rick's before he robs him.
Brandy – Rick is drinking heavily on the second night in his club and Renault joins him for a brandy.
French 75s – The cocktail Yvonne orders when she comes in as the brand-new floozy of a German officer. A “French 75” is an American drink named after a caliber of French artillery in World War One.
Recipe of the “French 75” cocktail 2 oz French cognac 5 oz of chilled champagne 1.5 oz lemon juice 1 tsp. superfine sugar
Champagne – Strasser and fellow German officers are joined by Renault while living it up for the second night in Rick’s.
Brandy – Carl serves brandy to the Leuctags to salute their escape to America.
Brandy – Rick offers brandy to Annina (Bulgarian refugee girl) as she prepares to prostitute herself to Renault to save herself and her husband.
Cognac – Laszlo orders for himself and Ilsa the second night in Rick’s.
Brandy – Rick continues drinking recklessly at his own bar.
Champagne – After the publicly defiant singing of the Marseillaise, Lazslo and the French officers toast the humiliation of the Germans.
Champagne – Ilsa and Rick drink in Rick's room the second night.
Whisky – Rick doses Laszlo with medicinal whisky after Laszlo gets roughed-up while escaping a police crackdown on the Resistance.
Vichy Water – Renault pours himself a non-alcoholic drink of this after Rick has shot Strasser, but in a symbolic act drops Vichy into the trash.
THE END

Kitchen Witchery: Cocktail Magic
It's that season when I find myself in Drinking Situations. Between Thanksgiving gatherings, Christmas parties, beat the blues days with friends, and the Winter Solstice, late fall and winter are prime times for a little beverage. Whether you're spiking your hot cocoa or crafting a special cocktail, there's an opportunity for magic.
First, the basics.
Alcohol Correspondences
Yeah, yeah, I'm not a big fan of correspondence lists. I know. But as I was making my own correspondence list for spirits (the alcoholic kind) earlier this year, I did refer to the good ol' internet for ideas. What I found was... surprisingly sparse? So, here you go. Note that these are my correspondences that correlate to the base ingredients/crafting method of the alcohol, personal associations, and trial and error. Think critically before just writing all this down. If you disagree with something, that's fine! Great, even!
Anyhow:
Whisky. Fire, heat, spirit work (offerings), warming, courage, blessings, deal-making.
Vodka. Courage, cleansing, grounding, absorbing, infusions.
Rum. Love, sweetening, uplifting, lust. (*cough* piracy *cough*)
Tequila. Decisions (good or bad), hard work, celebration, energy.
Gin. Cleansing, clarity, love, prosperity, protection.
Absinthe. Fire, cleansing, warding, spirit work, meditation, relaxation.
Moonshine. Freedom, strength, spirit work, courage, community.
Wine (properties can differ based on color, flavor, etc.). Love, lust, sex, romance, friendship, celebration, stress relief, health, grief.
Beer. Home, family, abundance, prosperity, ancestor work.
Cider. Harvest, abundance, love, friendship, celebration, success.
There are a huge number of alcohol variants in the world, but these are the ones that live in my bar cart most often, so these are the ones I work with frequently.
The full version of this post is exclusive for Ko-fi supporters! Get a handful of recipes with spell suggestions a full week early. A $1 tip gets you early, exclusive, and extended access to my work forever. If you like my posts, consider throwing a dollar or two my way to support the blog!

wait. talk more about the green tea and whiskey combo. is the green tea sweetened? what’s the proportions? doesn’t the whiskey overpower the green tea?
Man, I'm like 90% sure it was whisky? My Mandarin is pretty poor (I got by by slurring my Cantonese in a weird accent and hoping to god it was close to understandable), and my memories of those nights, on top of being from 15 years ago, are exceedingly hazy (for the reasons you think). I didn't often do the ordering. But there some kind of green tea cocktail we drank at pretty much every Shanghai club we went to.
I tried googling it earlier as I was writing to jog my memory, but I couldn't find many results in English beyond other green tea cocktail shot recipes that have sours and schnaps.
It wasn't sweetened. At least not recognizably. I think green tea often has this strong grassy flavor that would theoretically complement more woody whiskies. I don't remember the proportions either.
It's entirely possible that I just remember it being good because I was young and stupid and just out to get drunk. And it was good for that at least. Hahahah.
Sorry, I can't clarify better. ;;;_;;;
(The most terrible drink I had in China was a horrifying screwdriver we made with orange juice from the karaoke place mixed with convenience store baijiu. I DO NOT RECOMMEND!!)

*ahem*
what do you think your favorite characters (across fandoms or just from tgamm) would order for drinks at a restaurant?
My brain is interpreting this as alcoholic drinks, I hope that's what you meant. I'll do the immediate McGee family! (Molly and Darryl are 21 in this scenario, of course)
Pete: Looooves the classics. Give him a simple martini or gin and tonic and he's a happy man. He's a sipper and likes to savour his drinks, basking in the nostalgia as dads often do. His favourite at-home one is Baileys and coffee (and yes, he is aware of the stereotype)
Sharon: You know after she moved out on her own she had a party phase, so now she's got a bit of a tolerance to strong flavours. She likes dark rums and whisky sours, things to swirl around in her cup as she goes 🤔 Also LOOOOOVES chocolate liqueur
Molly: Never looks at the ingredients lists, just orders whichever drink sounds 'happiest', and has thusly developed a taste for light, nuanced wines. She likes the sparkle and pop of champagne cocktails, and everything is made better with a little fruit skewer!
Darryl: Never even looks at the menu. He pulls the bartender aside and whispers, confidentially, to make him something that they'd always wanted to try. No limitations. He's always on the lookout for new flavours (and potentially a new recipe to offer to the highest bidder) and he's had just as many shining successes as he's had horrible, stomach churning mistakes. Lives for the thrill.
Scratch: Anything but soda Generally speaking, the older the better. Has expensive tastes, obviously, but really there's no way to go wrong with a neat scotch. Astonishingly good at picking up subtleties in flavour. (His second-favourite is something he calls Swamp Water, wherein he drinks the contents of the bar's dishwasher.)
