Monday Motivation Owl
This stately wood-engraved Barn Owl is maintaining its vigilant watch over the Hunting Tower on the Derbyshire Dales historic Chatsworth Estate to keep it free of vermin despite being mobbed by smaller birds. The tower was designed by Elizabethan architect Robert Smythson and was built in 1582 for Bess of Hardwick. It stands on an escarpment 400 feet above Chatsworth House, on the edge of Stand Wood, and was used as a summer house for the ladies of the estate to observe the hunting activities in the parkland below. Today it has been restored and can be rented as a holiday cottage for vacationers where the barn owls stand watch nightly to keep pesky critters at bay.
This image is by English wood engraver John O’Connor (1913-2004) and appears in a retrospective of O’Connor’s work, People & Places, printed in 1999 by John and Rosalind Randle’s Whittington Press in Herefordshire, England in an edition of 375 copies.

Not all social housing in the 1960s was about tower blocks. High-rise buildings were unpopular with tenants, lifts were costly and broke down, and the surrounding lawns were hard to maintain. Moreover, on the slopes around Hampstead Heath in London, towers would have blocked views towards St Paul’s Cathedral. This area became part of the newly created borough of Camden in 1965 and a visionary new chief architect, Sydney Cook, assembled a bright team of assistants to find an alternative form of housing. One of these young architects was Peter Tábori, who has died aged 83. The Whittington estate which he designed, originally known as Highgate New Town, exemplified a solution that was both innovative and successful.
Camden had identified an area of semi-derelict Victorian housing for redevelopment next to Highgate’s east cemetery, where Karl Marx is buried. Tábori realised that, on such a steep hillside, lines of flats and maisonettes could be stacked one above the other and entered from a common entrance at mid-level on the uphill side. Car parking could be set into the hill between these terraces and decked over with pedestrian walkways and children’s playgrounds.
He was inspired by medieval Italian hill towns and an internationally regarded scheme near Berne by the Swiss architects Atelier 5, but the greatest impression is of generous, humane spaces. The scheme was designed in 1968-70 but not completed until 1979 after the original contractors went bust.
The concept fitted perfectly with Cook’s own ideas and Tábori was a natural addition to the team. Other assistants working on similar solutions went on to greater recognition: Neave Brown’s complex terraces at Fleet Road (now Dunboyne Road) and Alexandra Road are listed, as are Gordon Benson and Alan Forsyth’s mainly two-storey houses on a steep slope at Branch Hill, Hampstead.
Together the group established a distinctive style for Camden’s best social housing using crisp white concrete, densely packed but relatively low-rise. Tábori’s Highgate New Town had the benefit of simplicity, in the design of the terraces and in his determination that public and private spaces should be clearly separated. This last avoided the problems faced by estates where indeterminate space led to vandalism. Mark Swenarton’s book Cook’s Camden (2017), to which Tábori generously contributed, records the inspiring story.
Highgate New Town was finely finished, the external concrete contrasting with handsome internal joinery. Cook claimed that “the quality of [Tábori’s] work isn’t just double site capacity at low rise, or all the higher standards, but that he did it all below yardstick”, the restrictive budget code imposed by governments at the time. In fact, Camden’s fine housing was made possible by its high domestic rates income and other London boroughs could not match its quality. Many of Tábori’s maisonettes remain tenanted, but those sold under “right-to-buy” legislation now fetch eye-watering prices.
Tábori went on to design a second scheme in 1971, Oakshott Court, Polygon Road, with three L-shaped terraces, but he was disappointed by a decision made in 1974 to use brick, apparently in deference to its location near St Pancras Station. A smaller scheme of 15 flats on the corner of Mill Lane and Solent Road followed in 1973 after Cook’s retirement, including four wheelchair-accessible units and five for elderly people. He also worked on a visionary programme with the architects/engineers Arup Associates for building over the main railway tracks that run through Camden, an attempt to gain space in the overcrowded borough.
He was born Peter Stroh in Budapest, the son of Istvan Stroh, a professor of mathematics, and his wife Erzsebét (nee Szanto), a former opera singer. She subsequently married Michael Tábori, an economist whose father had died at Auschwitz. Both men had been imprisoned by the communist government and following the 1956 uprising in Budapest, Peter too was arrested. On his release in December 1956 he, Erzsebét and Michael emigrated to London via Vienna, along with other members of Michael’s family. Thenceforth Tábori used his stepfather’s surname and adopted it formally on becoming a British citizen in 1966.
Tábori learned English and technical drawing with an architect, Cecil Epril, and in 1958 entered Regent Street Polytechnic (now the University of Westminster). His tutors included Richard Rogers, who inspired his interest in mass housing, and who himself designed an (unbuilt) hillside scheme in Croydon inspired by Atelier 5. Tábori assisted on Rogers’s first built house, Creekvean, with Su Rogers and Norman Foster.
Tábori also spent two years working for Ernö Goldfinger, the Hungarian-born architect immortalised by Ian Fleming, before completing his qualifications. The final external examiner was Denys Lasdun, who gave him a job assisting on the University of East Anglia, another hillside building with a stepped section where he learned about concrete techniques. However, when in 1967 the chance came to work for Cook and develop his own housing interests, Tábori seized the opportunity.
He left the borough in 1984 and formed a private practice with John Green and Bob Winning, working mainly in Hamburg, Toulouse and Soweto.
Tábori married Angelika Schiel, a model, in 1962. They had three sons, Kris, Michael and Gabor, but divorced in about 1980, and Angelika, who became an upholsterer, died in 2016. Peter had a fourth son, Tom, in 1984, with Anne Saville, a welfare adviser at the charity Gingerbread, but the couple later separated. He is survived by his sons.

Chapter 7: Confessions
Lord Ashford was furious and humiliated by Ingrid's rejection. He swore to himself that he would not let Benedict have her. He decided to use his influence and connections to ruin Benedict's reputation and intentions, and convince Ingrid's family and friends that he was not worthy of her.
He enlisted the help of Mr. William Jones and Mr. George Smith, two gentlemen who were also jealous of Benedict's success and popularity. They agreed to join Lord Ashford in his scheme, and spread rumors and lies about Benedict.
They told everyone that Benedict was a fraud, a gambler, a rake, and a scoundrel. They said that he had no interest in Ingrid, and that he was only using her to get access to her father's wealth and secrets. They said that he had a secret lover, a mistress They said that he had cheated, betrayed, or hurt many women before.
They did everything they could to make Ingrid doubt Benedict, and make Benedict lose Ingrid's trust and love.
The next day, Ingrid received a visit from Lord Ashford at her home. She was surprised and displeased to see him, but she decided to be polite and receive him in the drawing room.
"Lord Ashford, what a surprise," she said coldly.
"Miss Whittington, what a pleasure," he said warmly.
He bowed and kissed her hand.
She withdrew it quickly.
He smiled and sat down on the sofa.
She sat down on the opposite chair.
He looked at her with admiration.
She looked at him with disdain.
He cleared his throat and said, "Miss Whittington, I'm here to talk to you about something very important."
She raised her eyebrows and said, "Oh? And what might that be?"
He leaned forward and said, "It's about Lord Bridgerton."
She stiffened and said, "What about him?"
He sighed and said, "Miss Whittington, I'm afraid I have some bad news for you. Lord Bridgerton is not who he seems to be. He is not a gentleman of honor and integrity. He is a scoundrel and a liar."
She frowned and said, "What are you talking about? Lord Bridgerton is a wonderful man. He is kind, smart, handsome, and talented. He is everything a gentleman should be."
He shook his head and said, "No, Miss Whittington, he is not. He is a second son who has no prospects or ambitions. He has no income or estate of his own. He lives off his brother's generosity and his family's name. He has no future or purpose in life."
She scoffed and said, "That's nonsense. Lord Bridgerton has many prospects and ambitions. He is an artist who creates beautiful paintings and sculptures. He has a passion and a talent for his work. He has a vision and a style that are unique and original."
He shrugged and said, "That's all well and good, Miss Whittington, but art does not pay the bills. Lord Bridgerton may be able to amuse himself with his hobbies, but he cannot support a wife or a family with them. He cannot provide you with the security and comfort that you deserve."
She smiled and said, "I don't need security and comfort, I don't need Lord Bridgerton to provide me with anything. I'd only need him to love me."
He frowned and said, "But he does not love you, Miss Whittington. He only wants to seduce you and abandon you. He has no intention of marrying you or being faithful to you. He has done it before, and he will do it again."
She gasped and said, "How dare you? How dare you say such things about Lord Bridgerton? How do you know what he has done or what he will do? Do you have any proof of your accusations?"
He nodded and said, "Yes, Miss Whittington, I do. I have here some letters that Lord Bridgerton wrote to his previous lovers. They show his true nature and his true intentions. They show how he wooed them with sweet words and promises, and charm, how he left them with broken hearts and shattered reputations."
He reached into his coat pocket and pulled out some papers.
He handed them to her.
She took them reluctantly.
She looked at them with horror.
They were indeed letters from Benedict to various women.
They were indeed full of love and passion.
They were indeed signed by him.
But they were also fake.
Lord Ashford had forged them himself.
He had copied Benedict's handwriting from some of his sketches.
He had used some of his phrases from some of his poems.
He had fabricated some of his stories from some of his rumors.
He had created some of the most convincing evidence against Benedict that he could think of.
He hoped that Ingrid would believe them.
He hoped that Ingrid would hate Benedict.
He hoped that Ingrid would leave Benedict.
After Lord Ashford leaves, Ingrid was sitting in the drawing room, reading some of the letters, when her sister, Clara, entered. "You must hear what some of these letters say." Ingrid sniffles.
She reads one of the letters, and her voice trembles with emotion.
My dearest Amelia,
I cannot bear to be apart from you any longer. You are the only one who can fill my heart with joy and my soul with fire. You are the only one who can make me forget the troubles and sorrows of this world. You are the only one who can make me feel alive.
I long to see your beautiful face, to touch your soft skin, to kiss your sweet lips, to hold you in my arms, to make love to you until we are both exhausted and satisfied. I long to hear your voice, to listen to your words, to laugh at your jokes, to share your thoughts, to comfort your fears. I long to be with you, always and forever.
Please, my darling, do not doubt my love for you. Do not listen to the rumors and lies that others may spread about me. Do not let anyone or anything come between us. Do not let anyone or anything take you away from me.
You are mine, Amelia, and I am yours. Nothing can change that. Nothing can break us apart.
I will come for you soon, my love. I will take you away from this place, and we will start a new life together. A life of happiness and freedom. A life of love and passion.
Wait for me, Amelia. Wait for me, and I will make all your dreams come true.
Yours forever,
Benedict
Clara looks at Ingrid with shock and sympathy.
She says "Oh, Ingrid, I'm so sorry. How could he do this to you? How could he be so cruel and heartless?"
Ingrid shakes her head and says "I don't know. I don't know what to think. I don't know what to feel."
She drops the letter on the floor and bursts into tears.
Clara hugs her and says "It's okay, Ingrid. It's okay. You're not alone. I'm here for you."
As Ingrid and Clara were hugging and crying, their mother and father, Lord and Lady Whittington, came into the room along with their younger sisters, Esme and Adelaide.
They saw the letters on the floor, and the distress on Ingrid's face.
They asked "What is going on? What is wrong?"
Clara explained "Ingrid has just received some letters from Lord Ashford. They are from Lord Bridgerton to his previous lovers. They show that he has been unfaithful and dishonest to Ingrid. They show that he does not love her, and that he only wants to use her."
Lady Whittington was shocked and Lord Whittington was outraged.
Lord Whittington "How dare you let another man treat you like this? How dare you let another man play with your feelings and ruin your reputation again?!" He shouts.
He looks at Ingrid anger. "First Lord Stirling and now Lord Bridgerton." He grumbles
"Father I'm sorry I didn't know, Ingrid says pleading. "What do you want me to do?"
"Ingrid, you must end this relationship at once. You must never see him or speak to him again. He is not worthy of you. He is not worthy of our family."
Esme and Adelaide were also shocked and saddened.
"Michael don't you think that's harsh." her mother states putting her hands on her hips staring down her husband.
"She's not getting any younger Audrey we don't want her becoming a spinster." He retorts.
She's still young," her mother defends. "Besides she deserves to hear his side of the story, and give him a chance to explain. These letters," she gestures to them scattered all around. "Could mean nothing to him now. You had women you saw before marrying me." She points out.
Lord Whittington frowned and said defensively, "That's different Audrey. I was never engaged to any of them. I never made any promises to any of them. I never hurt any of them."
Lady Whittington shook her head and said patiently, "Maybe not Michael but you can't deny that you loved me more than any of them. Maybe Lord Bridgerton feels the same way about Ingrid. Maybe he loves her more than any of his past lovers. Maybe he has changed for her. Maybe he has a good explanation for these letters."
She smiled softly at Ingrid and said gently, "Ingrid, my dear, I know you love Lord Bridgerton. I know you trust him. I know you want to be with him. Don't let these letters ruin your happiness. Don't let Lord Ashford ruin your love. He is a jealous and spiteful man who wants to destroy your relationship. He is not a friend, but an enemy. He is not telling you the truth, but lying to you."
She looked at Ingrid with encouragement.
She said, "Ingrid, my dear, you must follow your heart. You must talk to Lord Bridgerton. You must hear his side of the story. You must give him a chance to explain. You must decide for yourself what to do."
Ingrid looked up at her mother with hope "Thank you mama." she says hugging Audrey.
Although Ingrid felt overwhelmed by their reactions.
She felt confused and conflicted.
She felt betrayed and heartbroken.
She felt ashamed and humiliated.
She wanted to believe that Benedict loved her, and that the letters were fake.
She wanted to hear his side of the story, and give him a chance to explain.
She wanted to trust him, and forgive him.
But she also felt hurt and angry.
Later:
Benedict was sitting in the drawing room, reading a book, when his sister-in-law, Kate, entered with a letter in her hand.
"Ben, you have to read this," She says angrily. slapping him in the chest with it Benedict took it and looked at the seal.
It was from Lady Whistledown, the mysterious gossip columnist who knew everything about everyone in London society.
Benedict felt a surge of apprehension.
Benedict reads the letter aloud, and his voice was filled with disbelief and anger.
Dear Readers,
I have some shocking news to share with you today. It seems that one of our most esteemed and eligible bachelors, Lord Bridgerton, has been hiding a dark and scandalous secret from us all. A secret that could ruin his reputation and his chances of finding a suitable bride.
It has come to my attention that Lord Bridgerton is not the honorable and faithful gentleman that he pretends to be. On the contrary, he is a notorious and unrepentant rake who has seduced and abandoned many women in his past. Women who have trusted him, loved him, and hoped to marry him.
I have in my possession some letters that Lord Bridgerton wrote to his previous lovers. Letters that reveal his true nature and his true intentions. Letters that show how he wooed them with sweet words and promises, how he left them with broken hearts and shattered reputations.
I have decided to publish some of these letters in my next column, for the benefit of my readers and the public. I believe that it is my duty to expose Lord Bridgerton for who he really is, and to warn any potential suitors of his deceit and treachery.
I also urge any other women who have been victimized by Lord Bridgerton to come forward and share their stories with me. Together, we can bring him to justice and make him pay for his crimes.
Yours truly,
Lady Whistledown
Kate looked at Benedict with a furious expression.
She said "Well? What do you have to say for yourself? Is this true? Did you write these letters? Did you do these things?"
"Kate, this is absurd. This is outrageous. This is slander. I did not write these letters. I did not do these things. These are all lies. Lies that someone has fabricated to ruin my reputation and my relationship with Ingrid."
He looks at the letter with disgust and anger.
He says "This is the work of Lord Ashford. He is the one who forged these letters and sent them to Lady Whistledown. He is the one who is trying to destroy me and take Ingrid away from me. He is the one who is jealous and spiteful and evil."
He crumples the letter and throws it into the fire.
He says "I will not let him get away with this. I will not let him harm me or Ingrid or our family. I will expose him for who he really is, and I will make him pay for his crimes."
He looks at Kate with a determined expression.
He says "Kate, you have to believe me. You have to trust me. You have to help me. You know me better than anyone. You know that I love Ingrid more than anything. You know that I would never be unfaithful or dishonest to her. You know that I am not a fraud, a gambler, a rake, or a scoundrel, but a brilliant, honorable, loyal, and kind man."
He reaches for her hand and says "Please, Kate, don't let these letters ruin our friendship." She says "I  believe you Ben, but these letters look so real. They look like they were written by you. How can you prove that they are fake? How can you prove that Lord Ashford is behind this?" "How can you prove to Ingrid, to the rest of the ton that Lord Ashford wrote the letters?"
Benedict says "Kate, I can prove it. I can prove it with my sketches, my poems, and my alibis. I can show you that these letters are not in my handwriting, that they are not in my style, and that they are not in my timeline. I can show you that Lord Ashford copied my sketches, used my phrases, and fabricated my stories. I can show you that Lord Ashford hired spies and thugs to follow me and Ingrid, and cause trouble for us. I can show you that Lord Ashford is a liar and a cheat."
He says "Kate, please come with me. Please come with me to my house. Please come with me to my study. Please come with me and see for yourself. Please come with me and help me clear my name." "Ben I can't," She says. "But you should ask Anthony and Colin to go with you."
"You're right." Benedict agrees and runs up the staircase to find his brothers.
Benedict finds Anthony and Colin in Anthony's study, where they are playing chess and drinking brandy. He tells them everything that has happened, and shows them the letters that Lord Ashford has written to Ingrid and Lady Whistledown. He begs them to help him prove his innocence and expose Lord Ashford's scheme.
Anthony and Colin are shocked and outraged by the letters. They agree to help their brother, and they follow him to his house. There, Benedict shows them his study, where he keeps his sketches, his poems, and his alibis. He compares them with the letters, and points out the differences and inconsistencies. He explains how Lord Ashford must have stolen or copied some of his work, and how he must have hired spies and thugs to follow him and Ingrid. Anthony and Colin are convinced by Benedict's evidence.
Benedict smiled at his brothers, who had gathered around him in his study. “I’m grateful for your presence, brothers. I value your support and trust.”
“It’s our duty, Benedict,” Anthony said, clasping his shoulder. “We’re family. We stand together.”
“And we don’t let anyone harm us,” Colin added, his eyes flashing with anger. “Especially not some scoundrel like Lord Ashford.”
Anthony nodded in agreement. “He’s worse than a scoundrel. He’s a villain, a schemer, a snake.”
Colin leaned forward, curious. “What exactly did he do, Benedict? How did he manage to write those letters?”
Benedict sighed and explained. “He must have been watching me and Ingrid for a long time; he must have stolen some of my sketches and poems, and copied them. He must have paid some ruffians to follow us and cause trouble for us. He must have invented some stories and dates to make it look like I was unfaithful and dishonest to Ingrid.”
Anthony frowned, puzzled. “How do you know all this, Benedict? How can you prove it?”
Benedict gestured to the papers on his desk. “I can prove it with my own work, Anthony. Look at these sketches, these poems, these alibis: compare them with the letters. You’ll see the differences and inconsistencies. You’ll see that Lord Ashford is a liar and a cheat.”
Anthony picked up the papers and examined them carefully. (Anthony examines the sketches, the poems, and the alibis.) He looked up at Benedict with admiration. “You’re right, Benedict.”
“I agree,” Colin said, joining him.
Benedict felt a surge of relief and gratitude. “Thank you, brothers, for believing me. Thank you for seeing the truth.”
Colin smiled warmly at him. “Don’t thank us, Benedict. Thank yourself. You’re the one who kept all this evidence. You’re the one who figured out Lord Ashford’s scheme.”
Anthony put down the papers and leaned closer to Benedict. “And you’re the one who will expose him, Benedict. You’re the one who will clear your name.”
Benedict nodded eagerly. “How will I do that, Anthony? How will I convince Ingrid, Lady Whistledown, and the rest of the ton that Lord Ashford wrote the letters?”
Anthony glanced at Colin and winked. “You’ll do it at the next ball, Benedict. You’ll do it in front of everyone. You’ll do it with our help.”
Benedict raised his eyebrows, intrigued. “What do you mean, Anthony? What’s your plan?”
Anthony lowered his voice and whispered in his ear. “Listen carefully, Benedict. Here’s what we’re going to do…”
Benedict looked at his brother with a mixture of admiration and apprehension. “That’s a brilliant plan, Anthony,” he admitted. “But it’s also very risky. What if Lord Ashford realizes what we’re doing and tries to stop us?”
Anthony shook his head confidently. “He won’t, Benedict,” he assured him. “He’s too arrogant and confident. He thinks he’s smarter than us. He thinks he’s already won. He won’t suspect anything until it’s too late.”
Benedict bit his lip nervously. “And what if Ingrid doesn’t come to the ball?” he asked. “What if she’s too hurt and angry to see me?”
Anthony smiled reassuringly. “She will, Benedict,” he promised him. “She loves you. She wants to hear your side of the story. She wants to give you a chance. And we’ll make sure she gets an invitation from Lady Whistledown herself.”
Benedict raised his eyebrows skeptically. “And what if Lady Whistledown doesn’t cooperate?” he wondered. “What if she refuses to write what we want her to write?”
Anthony winked at him slyly. “She will, Benedict,” he revealed. “She owes us a favor. Remember when we helped her escape from that angry mob at the opera? She promised to repay us someday. Well, that day has come.”
Benedict nodded slowly, hoping for the best. “I hope you’re right, Anthony,” he said. “I hope everything goes according to plan.”
Anthony hugged him warmly, feeling optimistic. “Trust me, Benedict,” he said. “It will. We’ll expose Lord Ashford for the fraud he is. We’ll clear your name and reputation. We’ll reunite you with Ingrid. And we’ll make sure that Lady Whistledown writes the most scandalous and sensational column ever.”
Benedict descended the stairs with his brothers, feeling hopeful and nervous. He spotted Ingrid in the crowd, looking radiant and anxious. He broke away from his brothers and approached her with a smile. “Ingrid, what a lovely surprise,” he greeted her.
Ingrid turned to face him, her eyes filled with pain and anger. She held out some letters in her hand. “Benedict, I need to speak with you,” she said urgently. “It’s about these letters.” She shows him the letters she received.
Benedict took the letters and scanned them quickly. His heart sank as he recognized the forgeries. He looked at her with sincerity and concern. “These are not mine,” he said firmly. “I never wrote these.”
Ingrid shook her head in disbelief. “Don’t lie to me, Benedict,” she said bitterly. “I recognize your handwriting. And your signature. How could you do this to me? How could you write such sweet words to other women?”
Benedict reached out to touch her arm, but she pulled away. He pleaded with her, “Ingrid, please, listen to me. These letters are fake. Lord Ashford is trying to sabotage our relationship. I swear to you, I have never written to anyone else but you.”
Ingrid frowned in confusion. “Lord Ashford?” she repeated. “Why would he do such a thing?”
Benedict explained, “Because he is jealous of me. He has always been. He wanted to marry you, but you rejected him. He wanted to destroy me, but he failed.”
Ingrid looked at him skeptically. “How do you know it was him?” she asked.
Benedict smiled triumphantly and showed her his proof. “Look at these,” he said confidently. “These are my original sketches and poems that I wrote for you. These are my alibis that prove where I was and what I did on the dates that Lord Ashford claimed I was with other women. These are the testimonies of my brothers and friends who witnessed Lord Ashford’s plot and helped me expose him.”
Ingrid examined the proof carefully, but she still felt uncertain. She looked at him sadly and said, “Benedict, they are not enough to convince me.”
Benedict felt a pang of despair,  Ingrid asked, “How can I believe you? How can I trust you? These letters look so real. They have your seal and everything.”
Benedict shook his head in frustration and said, “They may look real, but they are not. Lord Ashford must have copied my handwriting and seal.”
Ingrid sighed and said, “Benedict, I want to believe you, but I don’t know what to think. How can I be sure that you are telling the truth?”
Benedict stepped closer to her and cupped her face in his hands. He looked into her eyes with love and honesty and said, “Look into my eyes, Ingrid. Look into my heart. Do you see any doubt or deception there?”
Ingrid looked at Benedict with tears in her eyes, feeling torn and conflicted. She wanted to believe him, but she also felt betrayed and hurt by the letters. “Benedict, I don’t know what to do,” she said softly. “I don’t know who to trust. These letters have hurt me so much. They have made me doubt you. They have made me doubt myself.”
Benedict took her hands in his and squeezed them gently. He looked at her with love and compassion, trying to reassure her. “Ingrid, please, don’t doubt yourself,” he said earnestly. “You are the most wonderful woman I have ever met. You are smart, beautiful, brave, and kind. You are everything I ever dreamed of. And you are everything I ever need.”
Ingrid shook her head slightly, still feeling unsure. She asked him, “But how can I be sure that you are not lying to me? How can I be sure that you are not playing with my feelings? How can I be sure that you are not like Lord Ashford?”
Benedict frowned and said, “Ingrid, you can be sure of me because I am nothing like Lord Ashford. He is a coward, a liar, and a cheat. He is a man who would do anything to get what he wants, even if it means hurting others. He is a man who does not know how to love.”
Ingrid looked into his eyes and asked, “And you do? You know how to love?”
Benedict nodded and said, “Yes, Ingrid, I do. I know how to love because I love you. I love you with all my heart and soul. I love you more than anything in this world. And I would never do anything to hurt you or betray you.”
Ingrid felt a flicker of hope and asked, “You love me? How can you prove that to me? How can you show me that you love me?”
Benedict smiled and said, “Ingrid, I can prove it to you by being faithful, loyal, and honest with you. I can show it to you by being supportive, caring, and respectful of you. I can demonstrate it to you by being your partner, your friend, and your lover.”
Ingrid hesitated for a moment, then said, “And I trust you. And I forgive you.”
Benedict hugged her tightly and smiled. “Thank you, Ingrid,” he said gratefully. “Thank you for believing me and forgiving me. Thank you for giving me another chance.”
Ingrid hugged him back and said, “No, thank you, Benedict.”

This is the ever building story of Crown and Country and the family blessed yet cursed to bear this ever heavy burden... Now for a quick introduction to the history of the Nation and territories (which we will cover in whole later), Welcome to the United Kingdoms of Simerica! The Kingdom was conquered from English during the Revolutionary War of 1790, and defended itself from the resurging Edomites from the mountains of Forgotten Hollow in 1829. The Kingdom was founded in Willow Creek in the name of King Henry VIII in 1532 and served as a colony for England during the European colonization of the Americas. The Sulanese Islands located in the Carribbean (right by Jamaica to be precise). Their biggest exports were tobacco and cotton similar to the United States of America back then. Following a bloody massacre at a Plantation De Valier in the bayou, the slaves led the overseers into believing the message was clear but little did they know a major uprising was on the horizon.
The United Kingdom of Simerica.
In the 18th century, a brutal trade network transported kidnapped Africans and other darker skinned people to European colonies in the Americas and the Caribbean to work as slaves, mostly on plantations. In 1787, campaigners against slavery such as Thomas Clarkson, Olaudah Equiano, (later in the 1840's) Albert, Prince Consort to The Queen Victoria, Toussant Louverture, and Granville Sharp founded the Society for the Abolition of the Slave Trade, believing that ending the trade was the first step towards eradicating slavery completely in the modern world. They raised awareness about conditions (including with publications from former slaves such as Olaudah Equiano), boycotted slave-produced goods and petitioned Parliament to take action.
Willow Creek, Louisiana
Located in the bayou, Willow Creek is cozy, convenient town to live in! It has its own blues and jazz lounge with much cajun seafood to as they say "fill ya 'til yall bussin out dat belt buckle ya hear!" Down the street they have a museum that goes over the Every year they hold a festival called Mardi Gras to celebrate their independence from the United States of Simerica. It was originally a french settlement and they named it Ruisseau after the french explorer Jean Pierre Ruisseau. Once the Americans the location of the first plantation revolt that led to the civil war for the freedom of its slaves, they went on to claim the town as their capitol city and first of the territories. The economy thrived as a republic until the former slave owners united and tried to burn the city down. They hadn't realized the same slaves that organized the revolt refined their teaching methods to where they amassed an army of runaway slaves and taught them how to properly fight and defend themselves. The army was led by a slave named Leopold, his nickname was Napoleon amongst his peers and soldiers, his second in command was Leonidas, his brother and they were transferred from the Whittington Estate in Baltimore, Maryland in 1803 shortly before the Louisiana purchase so they saw the lands transfer from the French to the Americans. as part of a group of slaves that were meant to be part of a show of good will to the French as they were short on field hands due to the Haitian revolution which inspired many slaves into revolting in an attempt for their own freedom in America.
In Parliament, the campaign was led by William Wilberforce. It was only after many failed attempts that, in 1807, the slave trade in the British Empire was abolished. However, slaves in the colonies (excluding areas ruled by the East India Company) were not freed until 1838 – and only after slave-owners, rather than the slaves themselves, received compensation.
On the morning of April 13th, 1837, The plantations in Simerica and Sulani plummeted into chaos with the slaves revolting against the land owners, their former slave masters. Several years after the Southhampton Slave Revolt led by Nat Turner, this revolt was led by a former slave by the name of Josiah Leonidas from the Whitting-Hampton plantation in Willow Creek and the Sulanese revolt was led by a man named Benjamin Alais from a plantation owned by an advisor to the Duke of York in Simayca. Many on both sides lost their lives but it wasn't until the morning of November 18th, 1837 that the former slave owners agreed to a townhall meeting to formally emancipate the slaves and discuss living arrangements going forward. As stated before, many slave owners if not all of them wanted some form of compensation for the money lost in construction and maintenance expenses for the upkeep of their plantation. The former slaves had the upper hand having shown them what their armies are capable of. So they told them that they were lucky to be leaving with the clothes on their backs and their lives. They dropped the American democratic system and settled into just becoming a simple Republic, after several uprisings in the months following their gaining of independence, Leonidas who was appointed as leader and defender of the territories saw the corruption in parliament and decided to dissolve it. This dissolution of Government was well within his rights as appointed Leader of the nation. With the trust of the nation being within Leonidas' grasp, he decided to re establish the country as a Monarchy. And since they were already taking steps in that direction there wasn't much of a fuss from his subjects. Major cities were divided into Duchy's after the Civil War of 1837, a process which lasted four years. By 1842, after the civil war ran its course the heads of government brought the town representatives together to establish a name for their new country and it was decided to name the country the United Kingdom of Simerica. They had their eyes on territorial expansion. Fearing this new country would become what the United States had become after emancipating itself from England, the U.S (under the orders of Daniel Webster the then Secretary of State) participated in sabotage campaigns so the Kingdom would develop a reliance on the U.S for foreign aid. By this time the Kingdom had many resources and developed a good reputation with foreign traders. They were well on their way to becoming self sufficient. The Aroostook War with Britain diverted their efforts and were thus twarted.
Del Sol Valley
On September 4, 1781 a group of settlers consisting of 14 families numbering 44 individuals of Native American, African, Creole and European heritage journeyed more than one-thousand miles across the desert from present-day northern Mexico and established a farming community in the area naming it "El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina del Sol del Valle" which in english translates to The Town of Our Lady the Queen of the Sun of the Valley". In 1860 the Kingdom under the reign of King Leonidas IV Over time this community would grow under the flags of Spain, Mexico, United States, and eventually the United Kingdoms of Simerica to become one of the largest metropolitan cities in the world, the City of Del Sol Valley
Strangerville, Northern Territory, Australia
Nestled in the heart of Australia’s ochre outback is Strangerville. Known to the locals as “The Ville”, this town embodies the quintessential Australian spirit, from the ancient desert it sits upon to the Aboriginal culture that is woven into the very fabric of life here. In the town itself, you’ll find an impressive array of outback activities from camel rides to sunrise hot air balloons. But escaping to nature isn’t difficult either. You can float in freshwater swimming holes, explore the awe-inspiring Kings Canyon or marvel at the magnificent monolith of Uluru. There’s no doubt that The Ville is the beating heart of Australia’s Red Centre.
The Sulanese Islands
The Islands are divided into three areas, The Islands of Simoa, Simayca, and its capitol of Lani St. Taz.
Simoa was originally The Capitol but after a devastating series of hurricanes from 1765 to 1768. Washed away many of the homes and businesses and left many people unable to rebuild, so they relocated to Lani St Taz since it was ironically and conveniently out of the path of the hurricanes. But they do get the heavy rain from the hurricanes and tropical storms. The island of Simayca is a popular island with many clubs and resturants, seismologists keep an eye on the volcanic activity to keep the locals and tourist informed on when the right times to travel.
Christopher Columbus was the first European to set foot on the islands when he claimed it for Spain on May 3rd, 1494, during his second voyage to the New World. The Islands were settled by the Spanish in 1510, and the indigenous Taino people were forced into slavery and eventually exterminated if they hadn't18 escaped.

HM King Leonidas XII of The Royal House, Whittington.
Tumblr media
Introducing His Majesty, The King Leonidas XII. King of The United Kingdoms of Simerica and The Sulanese Islands. Who came to the throne upon the death of his father King Leonidas XI in 1945, of happy and blessed memory. Born on the 17th of May, 1911. The oldest son of King Leonidas XI and Queen Isabella (formerly Princess of El Selvadorada.) He had an older brother and two younger siblings but they unfortunately got lost in the Bermuda Triangle while attempting to travel to Africa in their teen years. Many saw it as a conspiracy, others believe their ship was sunken in a hurricane, the truth is no one knows.. but the fact that there are yet any remains to be found suggests they suffered the same fate as Amelia Earhart.. many years before her fateful incident.
He was raised by nannies and educated by governesses. His parents were always doing their rounds, visiting hospitals, on state visits to foreign nations. (Not unlike many other aristocratic families at the time) They did go on family vacations whenever they had time so it wasn't a love less family and young Leonidas had no issues growing up aside from the occasional teasing from other children.
HRH The Queen Consort, Victoria
Tumblr media
Born in 1916 to the former King of Simayca, The then Princess Victoria was born with a sense of duty. While it was never intended for her to marry the future King of Simerica, the union was met with mixed hostile emotions and jubilant cheers. She was expected to marry into the Azhari family of Arabia, the then reigning family before they were overthrown and King Hussein Abd Al-Azhair Bin Rasooya ascended to the throne.
HRH, James, The Prince of Sulani
Tumblr media
The eldest son of Leonidas and Victoria, though he has a twin brother, Joseph, it was James who was born 17 minutes earlier on the 3rd of August, 1932. Both were born in Whittington Palace back when births within the palace was more commonplace. He attended Britechster University before enrolling in the Military. At Britechster, he met Lady Anne Aimesworth, the daughter of a Nobleman from Henford on Bagley who served King George V. Upon graduating they began to go out in public, thus making the relationship known to all. They eventually married in the spring of 1953. Their first child James Jr was born just before their first year anniversary. After James jr who they affectionately refer to as Jimmy was born, came Jeremiah who they called Jerry. For awhile the two caused plenty mischief around the palace they dubbed themselves "Jimmy and Jerry" and acted as if they were a comedy duo in a tv show. While it was funny at first, it got old fast and aggravating, they were known among the staff as "Those Two". In the summer of 1964, Prince Isaiah was born and in the fall of 1966, came the Princess Elisabeth.

His Majesty King Leonidas met the Queen Victoria in 1959 when he was on his royal duties touring the Sulanese Islands on behalf of his father. At the time he was the Prince of Sulani as was the custom since KIng Leopold XVI gave the title to a young Prince Leonidas in 1899. From their union came James, Charles, Charlotte, Elizabeth, Joseph, and Edward. With James and Charles being the oldest and from a different time, they received their title prior to marriage. James received his title as the Prince Of Sulani in 1972
Tumblr media
It was a grand day for the Kingdom when Her Majesty, The Queen Elizabeth II and her husband The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Phillip came to visit them at Whittington Palace. It was Queen Elizabeth who held meetings with King Heinrich I and King Leonidas XI to get an apology for the atrocities of WW1 and WW2. After making reparations to all affected he was allowed into the League of Sovereigns Co headed by King Leonidas and Queen Elizabeth.
Tumblr media
The League of Sovereigns was founded in 1937 by King Leonidas XII and King George VI and took off right away after being held up for a year of being in purgatory after the passing of King George V and the abdication crisis. And with the uprising of the Arschloch political movement in Windenberg they felt the need to unite the world before egos could manifest into something harmful. The Arschloch Movement was created from a manifesto written by Adolfo Schmimler. At first their ideals were seen as just that to the privy world, but soon it would grow into something awfulTheir goal was to maintain a peaceful relationship with each other as to bring about world peace and harmony amongst the nations. The league was just about to go into action January 1st 1936 but King George V took gravely ill. Most thought he would make a recovery as he did before but this would not turn out to be true.

Tumblr media
Pictured from left to right: Prince Charles, The Duke of San Myshuno, The Princess Anne of Sulani, The Prince Jimmy and his new bride Yasmine, Jimmy's father James Sr, The Prince of Sulani and His Majesty, King Leonidas XII.
As time went on The King grew older and older some days his health treating him better than others. Pictured above is from the year 2013 the royal wedding of Prince Jimmy (aged 22) to his bride from the Kingdom of Oasis Springs in Arabia, Princess Yasmine. Upon their marriage the King dubbed them The Duke and Duchess of Del Sol and from here he was able to establish his Dukedom in the way he saw fit. The people already loved Prince Jimmy and locally they even nicknamed him the "Fresh Prince of Del Sol". They were thrilled to have him and his wife to take residence in their city. Their allegiance to the King went unmatched, he was loved for his tolerance and acceptance of other cultures and beliefs even having grown up in a partially Muslim background himself.
The Prince of Sulani had just returned from an overseas tour of the Kingdoms of Mt. Komorebi in Japan and Oasis Springs of Arabia in his fathers stead who's health again was steady on the decline. His hopes were to tighten relations between the two nations. It was feared Oasis Springs were looking to go to war with its Indian minority after protest arise which had disastrous results which resulted in many lives being lost and even more put in jail. After issuing a declaration of a state of emergency, in an effort to reclaim its lands for cultural supremacy a few local officials were charged with the murder of two young men of Indian decent.
Tumblr media
Thanks to the tour of The Kingdoms of Mt. Komorebi and Oasis Springs by Prince James, He was able to secure a visit from the Emperor Naoki I of The Royal House Ito for his father. James was a very loyal and obedient son to his father. A visit from Queen Geeta never came but they did regularly communicate through letters and the occasional phone call. The Queen and King Leonidas had a special friendship as he did with Queen Elizabeth II. It was often speculated that he was in his own way, a very cheeky King. It was rumored that he had a child shortly before his death.
Once in a town called Strangerville in Australia, the Duke of Copperdale was going around conducting surveys, he overheard a conspiracy theorist on his cell phone sounding rather startled and worried about an impending issue. He went over to ask what that was about but the man went on about how the Monarchy caused all of this. He then got caught off guard by a sudden fight breaking out at the bar across the street. He then went to break up the fight and he wanted to get back with the gentleman and see what he was worried about but that never happened. After the fight was broken up he went to look for the man but he disappeared.
The Royal family of Sulani extended more over the years with the births of the Princesses Elisabeth and Janice, The Princes Jeremiah and Isaiah. And then the Prince Jimmy and his wife Princess Yasmine were expecting a child of their own. James was going to be a Grandfather and Leonidas, a Great Grandfather.
After the princess Judea was born her Aunt Elizabeth, grandfather and great grandfather were on their way via the royal jet.
Tumblr media
As soon as they arrived they didnt wait to be presented with their neice, grand daughter, and great granddaughter. Rather the King and the Prince of Sulani stormed up to his room where her bassinet was stationed. As soon as they came through the double doors their macho attitudes went out the window, They were overjoyed at the precious sight of the newest addition to the family and even more so were pleased to see the line of succession continuing even though this does mean the Crown will for the first time in the family, be passed down to a female and we will have a Queen...eventually.
Later on in the evening while holding Judea, The King suffered a heart attack he realized what was happening and he wouldnt make it to put her in the bassinet or hand her off to Princess Elizabeth, he collapsed with the baby in his arms. He managed to land on his back breaking her fall by landing on him.
James was downstairs talking to Jimmy and Yasmine when they heard a thud. They rushed upstairs and as they got closer to the door they heard Elizabeth sobbing uncontrollably.
Tumblr media
After a tiring two weeks of rehearsals, the funeral went on without any issues, many dignitaries came from around the world to pay their respects. Thousands filled the streets to mourn the loss for their former King. Of course the League of Sovereigns paid their respects to their fallen comrade.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
During a private ceremony, The newly installed King, James I, was photographed in a rare moment paying an emotional tribute to his late father and predecessor by bending the knee. Probably the only time you will ever see this Monarch give such a show of respect is either at the coronation or the funeral of the former Sovereign.
Tumblr media
As is the custom for all funeral services of a monarch, The Crown sat atop the coffin.
Tumblr media
Thousands of people filed into the abbey to pay their respects and say goodbye to the late King and hello to the new one.
The entire procession was televised and even on certain channels they replayed the service twice a day for about a week after the King was laid to rest. Immediately after the funeral James was bombarded with plans that were to be put in motion for a coronation to Crown the new King. and the streets were packed for the next several months...everything needed to be perfect.
Tumblr media
Over the next months The King made many speeches trying to reassure the people of the continuance that is sure to follow. "Different name, different King, same nation, same people" was his slogan that was used during his tour. Several months later in the summer.... A King is officially crowned.
youtube
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Following the Coronation, more good news was sure to follow. The Princess Elizabeth was to wed the Crown Prince of Windenberg, Stephan Von Windenberg. They were married in the Autumn season of that following year.
Tumblr media
During the royal wedding of the Princess Elizabeth to the crown Prince of Windenberg at Southminster Abbey, there were many guests but none shocked The King more than the former Prince of Wales, Charles who recently ascended to the throne of The United Kingdoms of Henford on Bagley to become the head of the Church of Henford and the Commonwealth Realms. With their parents being close friends Charles and James actually grew up rather close friends as well Charles being older by about 10 years.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next were going to discuss the official residence of the reigning Monarch, The Glorious Whittington Palace...lovely innit?
Tumblr media
Pictured here, the palace sits right off of Magnolia Street.
Sitting on 830,000 sq ft. The ever magnificent Whittington Palace is located in Willow Creek situated in the West End of the town.

There are three flags with two in the front of the building and one atop the roof. The two in the front are the flags of Islam and Judaism, thus symbolizing the unity of the two religions within the nation which constitute the De Facto belief system giving freedom to those who believe in each religion respectively, and the third flag on the roof is of the family's royal insignia or the Royal Standard.

Megan used to be a bottle service girl in Arizona. She is said to be an “escort” but no proof to that aside from gossips. 😅 But she did bag big money when she dated RD Whittington. They dated for 2 years. He funded everything and got “allowance”. After that word is she has some sponsors from connections she got when when she dated him. They sponsored her luxury items and trips. That went for a couple of months only and then Auston. After her first stint with Auston. After than same thing, then she met her exboyfriend. Some gossips says she doesnt have a real job and lazy - tagged as a gold digger.
As for her family, i do think her family has some money - that may afford that lifestyle but not to extent you think, like multiple big houses and luxury cars. Her brother is associated with car upgrades so she might have access to good deals. Her family seems simple - her step dad is in real estate i think and her mom is a nurse. Her sister has a business - you gotta have at least some money to do that. Hope this info helps.
Thanks!

“Stoneleigh Terrace II - Whittington Estate”, London, N19 [1973-1978] _ Architect: Peter Tábori _ Photographs by Spyros Kaprinis [18.09.2021]
“The Metropolitan Boroughs of St. Pancras, Holborn and Hampstead merged to become Camden in 1965. Under the stewardship of Sydney Cook, the new borough quickly became renowned for its radical housing.
Cook appointed a ‘dream team’ of architects working out of Holborn Town Hall, led by Neave Brown. These included Peter Tábori, who was born in Hungary in 1942 and studied at the Regent Street Polytechnic. When he was a student, he asked the local authority for a diploma project and was given the brief for Highgate New Town (Whittington Estate).
After working for Ernö Goldfinger and Denys Lasdun, Tabori joined Camden Architects Department – Sydney Cook had been so impressed by Tábori’s student work that he was employed to develop it into the final scheme. The estate was built between 1973 and 1978 overlooking the cemetery. It comprises six terraces with strong horizontal lines of balconies and cornices and vertical cross walls. Between each terrace is a pedestrian walkway, with trees and shrubs to soften the architecture.
One of the key figures in the development of Camden Council’s ‘golden age’ of progressive social-housing in the 1970s, Peter Tábori is best known for his distinctive ziggurat-style estates.
Born in Hungary in 1942, Tábori moved to London to study at the Regent Street Polytechnic. Tábori ’s designs developed Neave Brown’s principles of estate housing which centred around individual front doors and private open spaces, resulting in the distinctive stepped apartments which can be seen on the Whittington Estate and at Oakshott Court in Somers Town.”

It's Fine Press Friday!
The recent donation from the estate of Dennis Bayuzick includes several publications by the British Whittington Press, a few of which are illustrated using the pochoir stencil technique, including the book New Castle, a brief encounter by longtime Whittington illustrator and compositor Miriam Macgregor. The book, printed in 1998 in hand-set 14 pt. Walbaum type on Zerkall mould-made paper in an edition of 100 copies signed by the author/artist, is Macgregor's memoir of her visit to the Historic District of New Castle, Delaware, where she had gone to visit Oak Knoll Books, one of America's premier bookstores specializing in fine press publications and books on books. We think the occasion was for the 1997 Oak Knoll Fest.
New Castle's Historic District, designated a National Historic Landmark in 1967, contains about 500 historic buildings from the colonial and early Republic periods, one of the highest concentrations of well-preserved buildings from this period. At the time, Oak Knoll was located in a later-period building that used to be the town's butcher shop, just a block and a half north of the Historic District's town square, "The Green." Macgregor writes:
This small town on the western bank of the Delaware River was an enchanting, if misleading, introduction to America, and the following images are the result of one day's drawing, some photographs and, of course, memory.
Once a busy little port town but long since diminished, Macgregor notes that:
A 1932 guidebook described it as 'a diminutive town of forgotten asperations, the beckoning path of Europe spread before its sleepy eyes.' Thus, away from the limelight, many of the older buildings escaped modernisation and in due course, the inhabitants came to realise that they had a living museum to hand -- a microcosm of American colonial architecture.

Whittington Estate

Whittington Estate, N19
Peter Tabori, 1972-9
The Whittington Estate was designed by Peter Tabori who trained under Erno Goldfinger during Camden Council’s ‘golden age’ of progressive social-housing development. There are a mix of private ownership and social housing in the estate.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The estate is well designed and laid out. Some of the upper flats are accessed through a set of stairs and then a walkway which creates an area of open space and deters non-social behaviour.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are a total of six parallel terraces which comprises of 271 units. The estate includes: Lulot Gardens, Retcar Place, Sandstone Place and Stoneleigh Terrace. The private units do go on the market once in a while and they get snatched up quickly as the popularity of modernist estates and ex-council homes continue to rise. I have seen the price of a one bedroom flat go for £295,000 in 2013 and then £399,950 in 2015! It is a great investment and this of course entices those cash buyer investors.

CATS FANS did you know that when TS Eliot was writing the Practical Cats poems in the 1930s, this is what the line about Gus understudying Dick Whittington's Cat was referring to!
Dick Whittington was a really popular panto in the early 1900s and always involved a pantomime cat who looked like these examples! kind of explains why Eliots estate gave the rights to ALW for Cats instead of Disney, huh!

On the market For sale 3 bedroom flat Manor Place, Cambridge £450,000
I've been running this blog for nine years now, and I am still coming across architectural gems simply through trawling online property websites— including this scheme in Cambridge. I thought it looked interesting and had a whiff of Peter Tabori's Whittington Estate about. Further investigation revealed that it was designed by Ivor Smith and Cailey Hutton in 1978. Smith is probably best known for the Park Hill flats in Sheffield.
