Fort Frolic is becoming more and more popular the longer the games are out, much to my thill, as this means people are looking more and more into the muses, the Disciples, the quartet. Which is delightful. I have seen a lot of posts ranging from early 2015 blogs and art pieces as well as forums to modern, recent takes and character dives.

Of course, fandom is a space in which to explore and grow our own thoughts and theories. Some of the posts I have seen are certainly… choices. I have been putting off a brief character study of the muses until my wife and I have finished editing and splicing together our complete comprehensive history of the Disciples.

I have been working on breathing life into these characters for years now. Pulling from every media as well as looking into any rabbithole I could.

The reason behind this post is not to claim others work and ideas as incorrect but instead is to bring my findings to light. Share with you what is one of my two life’s works.

A brief character study of Kyle Fitzpatrick

Oh where to begin with my beloved boy. His canon appearances are so short lived. With three canonical lines I all but built him from the ground up. He is mentioned during DLC Burial at Sea 1 with no voice lines BUT that does give us where he was on New Years Eve, which I will talk about later in this post. He is not mentioned at all in Rapture by John Shirley. But this doesn’t mean that we don’t have clues and context for him as a character.

Let’s start with his name, Kyle Fitzpatrick.

Kyle is a Scottish-Gaelic name and FItzpatrick is an Irish surname. Coincidence right? No. Based purely on his name we can place his origin in either Ireland or Scotland, which comes into play when we dive further into his place within Rapture’s society.

Now I know what you’re thinking, “Oh but he doesn’t have an accent! In his voice lines he doesn’t have an accent.” and you’re right. He doesn’t. Let’s talk about that.

Kyle was employed by Sander Cohen, we know that as a hard fact. We also know as a hard fact that Sander Cohen was heavily on the side of Andrew Ryan when it came to the Ryan vs Fontaine bias. After the Death of Frank Fontaine who rose up in his place to challenge Andrew Ryan? Atlas. Atlas is a working class Irishman. Now, don’t you think it’s rather unseemly to have someone who is in the inner circle of Ryan supporters having a similar accent to his biggest adversary?

Of course, the scottish-gaelic accent is actually quite different from Fontaine’s accent as Atlas, but we also know for a Hard Fact that there is still racism within Rapture. Therefore by piecing together the racism as well as Cohen’s connection to Ryan we can deduce that Fitzpatrick was trained to cover his natural accent to keep up appearances within Fort Frolic and Rapture as a whole.

Next, Let’s talk about his age. We know Cohen referred to him as “Young Fitzpatrick.” I have seen a million and a half headcanons and ideas on how young “young” is. For this I’m pulling from the book, Rapture, with Martin’s POV. While the Rapture book is not considered Canon, it played a very important part in my construction of Kyle. We know from that that Cohen and by proxy, his disciples, are not only privy but are actively involved in a lot of skeezy, under the table, unorthodox practices and circles. Why does this matter? Because it feeds directly into Kyle Fitzpatrick’s age. In my construction of Kyle I placed him very firmly at the age of 21 when he died. So young right? Yeah I agree, but I have several reasons behind this. The first being that I do not believe that his prefrontal cortex is completely matured; I will touch back on this later. It’s not unknown that I am an avid fan of BaS and I really liked Elizabeth’s line of “This city values children. Not childhood.”

Kyle is the youngest of the muses. Being 17 at the time of Cohen scouting him, 18 when he was made an official disciple and 21 at the time of his death. I’d like to explain my reasoning behind the gap between him being scouted and him being debuted as a proper disciple. We know for another Hard Fact that all four of Cohen’s disciples (as well as others) had a physical, sexual relationship with their employer. Martin mentions it, Silas mentions it. Hector’s audio diary mentions it. Kyle was not excluded from this though I think he was not actively sought after by Cohen as much as other muses were. Cohen is smart, very smart, he knew that bringing on someone under the age of consent would not go over well with Ryan nor a number of the other key players within the social hierarchy. Kyle was groomed for the months leading up to his official debut. Which we know many went through but only 4 have managed to pass. I can go into further detail into his test. But I will spare you the details. He was pushed into the spotlight the second he turned 18 in 1956.

Let’s talk about why he was so young. Kyle is nothing less than a musical protege. He is incredibly talented, especially at such a young age. He is *young* he is not *stupid*. I’ve read a lot of people saying that they think that he’s naive or trusting and I’d like to counter that by saying that he’s impressionable, not naive. Cohen chose him because he knew he could mold him into something special. Which he did. Kyle is brilliant. But don’t think for one second he was stupid. He had three people constantly telling him that he was being manipulated by Cohen, by his Sponsor, by several players in Rapture. But he *chose* to ignore them.

Let’s break that down. Kyle was a victim of love bombing and near constant manipulation from almost everyone around him. I plan on doing an indepth dive into the mental illness within Rapture and the effects it had on those within the city.

Kyle was pulled in two separate directions. After working extensively on fitting him into the world created by 2K as well as John Shirely I chose to have his Sponsor be no one less than Frank Fontaine.

I do have a reason behind this. We know from all media types that Fontaine is an opportunist. Ryan always kept him at a distance. Never really trusting him. Not allowing him into the proper inner circle of Rapture like some of the other businessmen. I think especially in 1956, once things were properly starting to get heated, Fontaine would have looked for a way to worm his way into the inner social circle. He had a lot of people on his payroll, this we know for another fact. But how far did that really spread?

In order to explain the next part of Kyle’s backstory I have to derail to talk about Frank Fontaine. I can cite several occasions where Frank Fontaine openly or internally admits to blackmail, manipulation, sexual favors and paying off several people within Rapture in order to get ahead or get his way.

We know for a solid FACT that he had someone in nearly every part of Rapture with the exception of Fort Frolic. I always found that interesting. Why would the person with his hands in nearly every part of Rapture not be actively seeking out someone within the gossip hub of Rapture.

Unless he did.

I pride myself on fitting my work into being completely canon compliant. Fitting Kyle into the greater canon of Rapture was… difficult. I had to play fast and loose with a lot, backbending and jumping through hoops in order to bring such an insignificant character.

Kyle was young, this we know. Impressionable. I believe that Frank Fontaine saw him as someone he could easily get information out of.

Another solid fact we know is that Cohen didn’t care much for Fontaine or later Atlas. But Sander Cohen is a connoisseur of the arts. He can appreciate people with money, especially when it comes to funding his projects. Fontaine being interested in sponsoring his youngest disciple would have been too tempting a lure to ignore and so Kyle’s ties to Fontaine began.

Let’s dive into the manipulation and abuse within Fort Frolic and Rapture as a whole. Yummy, right? I see again and again people claiming that Kyle was stupid or that he loved Sander Cohen and I firmly stand against these claims. Kyle is young but he’s not blind. Do I think Kyle was once infatuated by Cohen? Yes. He was. Especially for a kid who came from a rocky background. But I think many people forget that Martin had been with Cohen from day one, working for him topside before he joined him in Rapture. Kyle had access and very close relationships with people who had been around Cohen for a lot longer than he had been. But knowledge and outside perspective doesn’t always protect someone from gaslighting, manipulation and abuse. I think that the dynamic between the key players was… difficult. A lot happened out of the public eye, within Fort Frolic, within the Disciples relationships and most certainly the interlocking dynamics between sponsors and their subtle or active gathering of information.

I’m about to step out of my semi-formal setting to get down and dirty real quick. I know y’all Sander Cohen kinnies gonna hate me for this one but that man is absolutely an abuser. We know this. He’s a sadist. And while I *love* that for him, he absolutely took out his artistic (or personal) rage on his disciples. There is a lot of room for disdain between disciple and artist. The prime written example of this is Martin considering just fucking killing Cohen when he first started to splice in 1956. The next example I’m going to pull is from the game with Hector Rodriguez. He says, and I quote, “the things that man made me do”. Which I always found interesting, saying as until the closure of Fort Frolic on New Years, they had *every* opportunity to leave all together. Of course, I could go into heavy detail into why each of the muses stayed but I will spare you. I’m here to talk about Kyle. Why did Kyle stay?

By 1958 Kyle was very firmly rooted within the upper class of Rapture. He was renowned as a musical genius as well as held a lot of social power from his dealings with Fort Frolic as one of Cohen’s Disciples as well as his ties to the essentially untouchable Empire that Frank Fontaine had created.

He was 19 years old and was untouchable by consequences for his actions. If Cohen didn’t bail him out of sticky situations, Fontaine would. Their dynamic is extremely interesting to me and I’d love to really get into the meat of it, but again, I will spare you in this short dissertation. Kyle was feeding Fontaine information he got while in Ryan’s social circles and he was well paid for it. It was an investment, of course, but Kyle gave him valuable information on Andrew Ryan and the inner workings of Fort Frolic as well as started giving him the seeds of ideas for Atlas. Though that’s another rabbithole for another day.

Kyle was very dangerously intertwined with Fontaine, which did not go unnoticed by Ryan nor his associates. After the ‘death’ of Frank Fontaine, anyone who had any ties to him were detained and questioned extensively. Kyle being one of them. But again, a story for another day.

Kyle was young and impressionable, as I have stated before. But he was also constantly being manipulated, gaslit and abused by those who saw him as an asset rather than a person. They took advantage of his love and lust for life. Kyle was burned out in record time but that does not mean that he wasn’t an absolutely awful person. He was a teenager given an outrageous amount of power. He was making extremely questionable decisions and was facing very few consequences for his actions.

I am not defending him as a good person. Anyone who enjoys Bioshock knows that these characters are extremely flawed and that is what makes them so fucking interesting.

I can go on and on about how everyone in Rapture was a simple pawn in a bigger game in a city that was destined to fail, but that’s the beauty of Bioshock.

Kyle Fitzpatrick was not a good person but he was the PRIME example of what Rapture was made for. He was a kid who came from a backwater town in Ireland who clawed, bit and fucked his way to the top. He loved too much and it was taken advantage of, brutally. Do I think that love extended to Sander Cohen? No. Kyle recognized him as a genius, albeit an outdated one, but he did not love him. Not like he loved his fellow Disciples or his work. Cohen was a security blanket for his debauchery, he signed paychecks and Kyle was willing to entertain him until New Years.

It is my belief that it was Kyle’s plan to bail from Fort Frolic after the Civil War started. He was in too deep with Atlas and Ryan knew it. His choices had landed him directly in the spotlight. Secrets were exposed and Kyle was brutally punished for it until his death in 1960.

I plan on posting a complete comprehensive history of him as well as the other Disciples.

TLDR:// Kyle Fitzpatrick is a dirty little bastard man who’s age is being confused for him being naive or stupid. He doesn’t really love Sander Cohen and he got exactly what was coming for him.

5. Do you respond to comments?

I try to but I always get really busy/tired and then it's been so long it feels like it would be weird if I did. Plus, sometimes my answers by nature of the comments can get repetitive and then even though I'm being sincere I feel insincere which sucks. However, if a comment has a direct question or something I actually have like, something unique to say about, I'm much more likely to respond sooner rather than later/never. I appreciate every single comment soooo much though literally my motivation to get through the day like 80 percent of the time

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I'm going to stick with Ted Lasso fics here since I have so many fics posted and this is my Ted Lasso sideblog and say... well, most of the time I have a bittersweet ending and then some sort of hopeful epilogue (such as with ink sunset and make a mess of you) but I guess betrayal's sting / absolution's balm or something to get off my chest may qualify?

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Uhhh, honestly, most of them are happy endings. I think trick & treat and matters of the heart end on particularly high notes?

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Not in this fandom! Yet

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Oh, yeah, baby. So much. Not sure what "kind" means in this context. It sure is explicit smut. I have tended almost exclusively towards hot transgender sex the last few years because. yknow. hi. but somehow I don't think that's the intention in the question.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

I do, but I haven't posted a lot. Only one on this account (a Gravity Falls x The Mysterious Benedict Society crossover that started as a joke because of a shared actress) although I had an interesting Shadowhunters x The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess fusion on my other account. I've written some pretty weird WIPs, though. And I've got some posts about Ted Lasso crossover/AUs, like a Sarah Jane Adventures AU, a Pushing Daisies AU, a Stardust AU... You can find that kind of thing in this tag on my blog.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Yes. Not in this fandom, though, as far as I'm aware.

Yes! Again, not in this fandom, though.

Not really.

14. What’s your all time favorite ship?

Oh, man, I don't know if I can decide. Magnus/Alec (TV version only I'll die on this hill) will always hold a special place in my heart, but I've got other "obsessed with this when I was a kid" ships and also recency bias/current hyperfixation means Trent/Ted screams as an immediate answer, and so on and so forth. I'm bad at picking favorites. Overall, I'd probably say one of those two, or both.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Sticking to Ted Lasso again (I have. so many MBS WIPs. god.) I'd say lost sight of (who you are) (lost motivation, want to finish, fuck!!) or sweeter than heaven (hotter than hell) (got mad at it), or!! oh!!! ink sunset (stuck) and possibly the next installment of matters of the heart. Yeah, I have a problem

16. What are your writing strengths?

I think I'm pretty good at being funny and also at eloquent but perhaps a little too verbose metaphors. I love me an elaborate metaphor

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

It's hard for me to focus and get what I have in my head out sometimes, even when I really want to. Whether it's being unable to organize or just my brain flat-out refusing to cooperate and do anything. Also, I'm way too like. easily discouraged with lack of feedback, and even a little negative feedback can kind of ruin my week and make me never wanna go back to that story ever again.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I just realized. The questions seemed familiar but I wasn't sure why and now I know, now that I've gotten to this question. I have done this game before and I remember bc of this question. I was confused bc it was under a different name, I think the questions were in a different order, and it was sometimes slightly differently worded but nope! This is the same one! Weird Anyway, just for this particular question, I'm going to copy-paste my old answer because I'm lazy. I’m extremely bad at linguistics in general, so if I must include someone talking in another language in my fic, I think I’d tend to cheat and do italics or some other indication that this is ‘in another language’ (ie “Where are you going?” she asked in Russian), but that’s admittedly a lazy approach. But I also think it’s probably better than butchering it with an auto-translator? Also, when people just include the translation in the end notes, even with a link (although that makes it marginally better) it breaks the flow of the story and makes it hard to read. Making an effort to at least match grammar is good (which I would do if it was for longer than a single scene, probably) but I think the best solution is when people know what they’re doing and like, have an actual translation with a little html code so you can click on it and it reveals what it means? Or if you’re clever, revealing what it means using context around it, but that has its own limitations. So that both like, uses the actual language and doesn’t break up the flow. It balances accessibility, flow, and respect for the other language in question well. But you’ve got to both know what you’re doing with the language (either asking someone/hiring someone/knowing the language yourself) and the html (although there are guides for that you’d have to spend time figuring it out + know it exists in the first place to look). And this is fanfiction, something we ultimately do for free in our spare time, so the lazy approach, I think, can be understandable. Maybe not in every context, but it’s not worth stressing a lot over in a few random lines or anything, you know? It is really cool when people do know a language well enough to include it properly in a fic, though, it can say a lot about a character or dynamic; and their background(s) and like. it’s neat :)

Ever? Doctor Who. And I don't remember the order, but after that I know I wrote some stuff about Star Trek (mostly TNG but I believe also TOS), Supernatural, A:LTA, Marvel, WTNV, and the Stanley Parable? I think I first posted either Supernatural or WTNV

I have no idea. Some of my top ones (for Ted Lasso again) would be matters of the heart and trick & treat I suppose?

I think I'm good at describing things!! Both emotions and scenery.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Having an actual Plot outside of just character studies sdflksd. Plot is so hard sometimes. Also, dialogue is so hard sometimes. I struggle with Taako and Kravitz especially. I just. Cannot get their voices down the way I want!!

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I've done it! I will probably do it again the future. I've changed the way I prefer to write it since I started writing TAZ fics. Mainly that I used to italicize any non-english words, but I've found that I don't like doing that anymore. I think it disrupts the flow, esp if the character is bilingual and not like, Just Learning the words in the fic.

Very hard decision!! The first two that came to mind were Buzzcuts and Braids and Tedious Familiarity, so I think those ones!!

I’m on the patreon, but I most definitely don’t pay Thomas just for sanders sides. I like all of his content, which is why I pay him. And I think given the fact that the finale is supposed to be four parts, and they’ve been hit with struggles including a *hurricane* in the past year preventing them from working on it as much as they’d like, the amount of time is understandable? Yes, the wait is on the long side, but still understandable for me. And I don’t think pressuring Thomas is going to help matters? If it’s not okay to pressure people to finish fanfics, which we all agree on, why is it more okay to pressure Thomas to make content? And why would that be more helpful? Yes, people pay him, but again, not just for sanders sides. If you pay him just for sanders sides that’s your problem. And I have seen an increase in content, from things like Roleslaying, songs, and livestreams. I am absolutely getting what I pay for.

My main issue is his responses. Ppl r specifically asking about content A and he’s says “yes but I’m giving you content B and C so you shouldn’t say that cause it’s not nice”

I’m happy you’re able to enjoy his content and at least some people are happy with the situation. But the thing is he made his patreon for sanders sides. He’s making money off of people who are paying for sanders sides and not getting it.

This isn’t a fanfic. This is his job. He’s making money from it. He has a whole team to work with. Fanfic is freely given and the authors have no obligation. It’s not the same.

I have my own project (the wonderland blog) that I make no money from. And when I need a break from it or want to focus on something else, i let my followers know what going on. And give them an estimate for how long it will take. If im struggling to make long posts, I change the format to make posting easier and faster.

And people are allowed to complain. there’s nothing wrong with that. When Thomas sees people’s complaints I don’t really see anything constructive in response to that. Just “what you said is hurtful you should support me”

I would love to hear a “I’m sorry about the wait, it’s taking so long be cause of A B and C. It will probably take about this amount of time for the next video.”

The way I see it is Thomas is selling a product. The customer is complaining about the lack of product and the sellers response is “don’t say that it’s hurtful”

I think the best thing he could do in this situation is change the quality of the videos to how they were originally. The quality of the last videos were great. But if that’s preventing him from getting the videos out in the first place and people aren’t happy, don’t do it. I’d love to see him keep things simpler like they were before. That would make videos easier to make and I think take a lot of pressure off him.

And nothing against you anon. I am glad someone’s content with that Thomas is offering. But a lot of people aren’t happy and I think they’re totally valid for it.

Same anon as before, talking about having to scroll through everything; I get your points, and it's like- totally valid. But correct me if I'm wrong, but this blog was made entirely for the purpose of showing Thomas's tweets? I'm not saying that you can't change the content of a blog, but the fact that one of your suggestions is "oh just search the Twitter tag for all his tweets" is slightly frustrating when that should be the main point of the blog. I understand not wanting to have a separate criticisms blog too, don't get me wrong, and I'm glad you did this in the first place, but I kinda wish there was some sort of agreement or midground we could come to. Also- some of your 'not a tweet' posts have clarifications that are actually related to the tweets, and I do want to see those. I just think people saw one person vent and took it as free ground to dump on Thomas in general when this was Not The Place To Do That, and it's frustrating. :/ And I'm sorry for taking it out on you, you don't deserve this either. -tired Anon

yeah you’re right. thanks for sending this, i feel better now that you’ve phrased it like this and i completely agree.

this had happened before and that’s why in the pinned post i wrote a comment about please keeping asks on topic of the tweets. and i think that’s just the best solution, to encourage people not to send as many anons. but of course each person is sending just one ask, they don’t know how many others have sent theirs.

what we could do is that if anyone wants to send asks that are getting out of topic (or criticism) you can send them instead over to @logically-asexual, my main sanders sides blog. im not turning it into an exclusively criticism blog but i am available to chat there any time and complain very often. if i receive many anons here i can make a post then saying that their answers will be posted on that blog, for anyone unaware.

Janus from A Primrose Promise.

I have been working on this story since 2018 back when I really first joined the fandom and I have been in a funk lately with the drought between episodes. So to cure my art block, I decided to redo the bookmarks I made eons ago for the story. Back then, I had drawn the pictures before ever writing anything down so they all looked much more modern than the story actually takes place (I have fixed that now). Also, my style hadn’t really caught up to what it is today and what most people recognize from me as the “scratchy lineart but soft blended colours and textured overlay” didn’t apply to the first set. Suffice it to say I am really happy with this one. I am working on the others but there are SO many. Virgil will be next because ultimately the story is predominantly about Virgil and Janus. (Spoilers though, he goes by another name in the story and I did not change it after his name reveal on purpose. If you read it you’ll figure out why in uhhhhhhhh one of the later chapters lol). I feel like I have greatly improved and it’s definitely cured my art block!

I worked hard on this for several hours.

hi! Thought I should make this since it's pretty essential to most blogs.

I'm Thespian, although I go by Mirika on other parts of the internet. I'm an Ao3 author, writing for Genshin Impact, and occasionally dabbles in crossovers with other fandoms with my friend Zhelday there. I live in Australia, so if I take a few hours longer than usual to respond, that'll be why. If I complain about the god-awful heat in December, that's also why.

Hi!! This might be weird, but maybe you'll think it's cool so I want to tell you.

A very long time ago I was in the Sanders Sides fandom and I saw your art of little Janus holding up a sign saying "Take care of yourself, bitch". I made it my phone lockscreen both because I really liked the art and because I needed to be reminded that I'm allowed to take care of myself. I was going through a rough time and the majority of my thoughts towards myself were negative and harsh, and fighting that was extremely difficult, so Janus' whole arc really stuck with me, and I clung onto it for comfort. And I don't know why or how, but having that piece of art as my phone lockscreen had such a legitimately huge influence on my mental health??? Every time I would start to mentally beat myself up I would look at it and feel a little bit of weight fall off my chest. That art got me through so much shit, and I can't even explain to you why it was so effective. Just something about the combination of the art style and the phrasing and just. Everything. I've had similar messages as my lockscreens that but it had never worked before. I don't know why, but I think your art of a silly cartoon Janus genuinely had a huge impact on my mental health and is probably a considerably big part of why I'm doing very well right now.

Also I just remembered all of this because of a conversation I was having with a friend and found the art and then your blog through your watermark and now??? I see you're posting Dream SMP and Hermitcraft content?? Which I am also a fan of currently??? This has nothing to do with anything, it just made me really happy lmao. I just think that's neat :))

So, I bet you're wondering why I've gathered you all here...

Hi, I'm the Publisher. I've noticed a problem in my life is that sometimes, I fall in love with a fanfic, read it so many times that I almost have it memorized, then lose it to never be found again. I've tried to ask my fellow fans and seen others try the same but usually, it has a hard time reaching people who can help. So hopefully this blog will have a wide enough reach that everyone can find their lost loves again. Who knows? We may even find some new loves along the way. Currently a fanfic meme and writing prompt blog until enough people know about it for the community to know it's here and help find the lost fanfics or decide that it's not something it needs.

There are divisions for finding different things. If you want to be tagged for each new find then put your URL and the people answering should tag you. If you don't want to connect your blog to it for aesthetic reasons or your friends don't know you read fanfic then putting your URL is not required but you might lose this post like that fanfic. You also don't necessarily put it in the format if you don't want to (although it is fun) but make sure that you put it the right division.

The Divisions:

Lost and Found: The main reason for the blog's existence. This is to find lost fanfics. Example:

Missing fanfic! It is a Ninjago fanfic centering around Nya and Lloyd. It is mostly fluff but with hurt/comfort and set in season one. Lloyd is hurt and asks Nya for help reaching the bandages and Nya says that he's her little brother. It is short but over 1,000 words and I think it has Not Beta Read as a tag. Last seen on AO3. If found, please return to (URL) or the Publisher.

Personal ads: When you just finished a show (or just started one, we don't judge) and you want some good fanfic recs that are going to be down your alley before you look yourself. Example:

(URL or just Person) looking for a Firefly fanfic. Must be Mal/Simon, hurt/comfort, over 20,000 words, and completed. Can have a plot and occasionally focus on other things. No song fics or one shots and no cheating plotlines or miscommunication. AO3 is preferable but I am willing to check out other neighborhoods.

Classifieds: For when you've been where every fanfic reader has been at least once. You've scraped the bottom of the barrel clean and the hyperfixation still won't leave you alone. This is for recs that are a little more underground, don't show up from a rudimentarily search, or are on lesser used sites for fanfic. Example:

Classified. Needing Sanders' Sides fanfic. Remus Sanders angst, that sadder the better. Already looked through AO3 with a fine toothed comb using the tags angst, heavy angst, hurt/comfort, hurt/no comfort. Anything is welcome. - (URL or To The Publisher)

can I ask what you miss about 2019? i didn't join until last year...what was it like?

Long rant beneath

The community was just so much bigger than what it was now. There were so many creators pumping out stories and artwork left and right, everything was fresh and original, hell even with Sanders Sides running amok everything was a new concept because you could mix and matched like 8 personalities in any setting you wanted. Fearplay was a lot more popular, too. Everyone made something and everyone reblogged something

But now it's just...stale. It's the same five creators over and over again because everyone else either left on their own or were squeezed out of the community. Everything needed to be fluffy and wholesome, only soft hearted male giants or epic, badass giantesses. Fics can only be 1% angst and 99% comfort, and all of those things are just not my style.

"Well if you don't like it, create your own work" I did and I love Star Wars rip off so much, but pretty quickly once everyone else started leaving I was bled dry because I was one of the few fearplay authors left. If you want constant engagement, you have to post damn near daily, which I normally don't have the luxury of doing seeing as I work full time and write at least 10K

Not to mention the community itself is so clique-y, which I've said before. It's not those same 5 creators fault that they got so popular and everyone only flocks to them, they're just trying to make something that brings them and their friends joy, but I'm so tired of seeing the same fic/art 8 times a day on my dash. Especially when they're character types I already don't care for. And if you're not friends with those creators? Forget having your work seen outside of your mutuals, it's almost like you need those creator's stamp of approval saying "Yep, this is a good post because I like it!"

And I'll be honest, I used g/t as a way to cope with my sexual assaults and baby loss. I liked being able to create dark fics with big, oppressive forces and tiny, helpless victims as a way to vent through both POVs. I liked being in control of the concept of overpowering. And now it's like...that's not allowed. You get messages or comments telling you certain tropes are fucked, or gosh these characters are swell but this would be 10000% better if it was uwu pure sugar fluff. No, I want it to be fucked up, I want to explore darker themes. "But g/t needs to be sfw because it's a comfort!!" Yes. It's my comfort as well, you don't get to gatekeep how I make my OCs act.

Also, being an author in the fandom these days is just harder than it used to be. No one wants to sit down and read a fic, they just want to see the pretty visualizes your or someone else made instead. Before, fics FLOODED the g/t tag and it was as magically as Matilda going to the library for the first time. So many stories at your fingertips! Now it's 90% art, which is fine! Art is beautiful! I've made art myself and I've had lovely followers make art for me which I am incredibly thankful for. But it's like that shortened attention span, you know? Why sit down a read a 20K fic when I can just look at art of the crux scene in 10 seconds and get the whole vibe? You're shit out of luck if you're not a popular artist to begin with.

I could really go on and list specific blogs and the shit they've done, but that's not fair of me to do. It's not intentionally their fault. That's just how the pieces happened to fall I guess. And really right now, I'm eight times more emotional than normal because my hormones are rampaging and slagging me with baby blues. Like I said, g/t used to be my coping mech for this type of thing, but with how the fandom is now, it's just not working like it used to and is making my mood feel even worse because of it.

I may end up taking a hiatus in the very near future, I may even end up retiring this blog altogether because I don't see the point in keeping up with a fandom that doesn't make me happy anymore. I'll sleep on it of course before I make any hasty decisions, I might bounce back in a couple days once my uterus stops making me depressed, but we'll have to see.

Hey, if you made it this far into my rant, please remember to reblog stories from small creators that you like. Please remember to give newbies in the g/t tag a chance instead of waiting for your fav content creator to give the all clear and declare the new work a hit, especially since they're all their own clique and hardly seem to reblog outside of each other anyways (like a little popular club whirlwind). If you want new and fresh content, then you gotta help expand the new and fresh content, otherwise authors aren't going to be as inclined to continue to develop it.

ooh this is fun!! i actually did a test on myself with this!! because when i'm reading fics for the romantic ship aspect, i prefer AUs and like pirate versions, mermaid versions, changing up the setting, etc. back when i read and wrote sanders sides, i wrote a LOT of aus, i think i only wrote one or two actually canon-set fics??? something like that, and i hardly ever read canon setting

What are agender mlm?

It's quite simply anyone who identifies as agender and mlm! This has no inherent connection to someone being transmasc or seeing themselves in a masculine way. Feminine agenders and androgynous agenders can absolutely choose to identify as mlm (or wlw, but that's not what this blog is about) regardless of presentation or agab. This could be due to a personal connection with the label or because someone feels that they are mlm because they love men in the same way men do - a queer way

About the flag

I created the agender mlm flag on May 23rd, 2022. It's a combination of the agender and gay men flags. However I spent a week workshopping various more unique flags before I settled on the current (and more obvious) version. If you're interested in seeing these alternative designs, and having a character posted with them, feel free to ask! I'm okay with using this flag but PLEASE credit me somewhere!! (Note: I know there are a few other versions of an agender mlm flag out there, using different mlm flags. This is my flag and any resemblance to anyone else's personal flags they've made themselves is unintentional and caused by us using the same/similar flags to make the combination.)

What I will do:

•Icons of a character (no book characters unless there is ample canon art of them) with the flag if specifically requested. If an icon is requested it will be an icon post instead of a regular post. If you want a yourfaveis post as well as icons, send them in two separate asks

•Any fandom that does not fit into the "no real people" rule (see below). While there are plenty of shows I personally don't like, shows that make me extremely uncomfortable, and fandoms that make me uncomfortable, I'm not going to deny any requests based on that. (This is NOT a jab at people who do: I am letting people know that it's okay to send in requests for almost any fandom and I'm not going to reject or make fun of anyone for having different tastes than me)

What I won't do if I catch it but things might slip by me:

•Canon wlw (such as Enid from OK KO, Amity from The Owl House, etc)

•Queer characters that are canonically not attracted to men in general (such as aroace characters)

•Canon binary trans characters (such as Barney from Dead End: Paranormal Park) (Canon nonbinary characters are very much welcome! As long as they don't have a specific identity that would be erased, such as genderfluid)

My knowledge of fandoms isn't very extensive and I won't do a bunch of research on any requests I get, so if someone sends any of those types of requests in and I don't catch it, so be it. If I do happen to know or catch it, it won't be posted. This is to avoid erasing canon sexualities or genders. (Because I've seen people who don't get it: yes, headcanons giving a canonically trans character a different gender or pronouns is transphobic. It's still misgendering. There are plenty of characters to project on to, respect the queer characters that are already there)

What I will not do:

•I will not do real people. This includes personas such as dsmp characters (Minecraft mobs and Minecraft story mode characters allowed), sanders sides, darkiplier, etc. I'm not anti any of these things, fans of them are welcome to interact, I just don't feel comfortable doing them. The characters actors play are fine, however!

•hlvrai (other than for personal friends). Hlvrai fans are allowed to interact, but Wayne himself and another member of rtvs were very homophobic towards me specifically. Please do not send asks or dm me asking for details of the incident, as it is no one's business. This is just my explanation as to why I'm uncomfortable with hlvrai

•Any posts that say "nonbinary mlm" or "nblm" in them. This blog is for agender mlm headcanons specifically!

A little bit of info about me:

•My pronouns are they/them

•I do not have a dni, but anyone I happen to notice I don't want following/interacting with me I'll block

•I am agender mlm (obviously)

•I do NOT identify as nonbinary. I have nothing against nonbinary people, they are my siblings, and we're all in this together, but I am not comfortable being called nonbinary/enby/nb or "Mx". Anyone misgendering me or calling me any of those things will be blocked

•I am unaligned! I do not consider myself masc aligned or fem aligned. I'm very much a neutral, super androgynous agender. The reason I identify as mlm is because I have faced homophobia for an attraction to men all my life, I've been involved with other mlm for a long time, and I have a right to identify as such. Also, gender is made up. Identify as what you want
