i don't know if i have ADHD or not. one doctor said yeah, one said nah. i don't like the one that said nah for other reasons, but that doesn't mean she's wrong. i do fit almost all the main criteria of inattentive-type, but i don't know how much of that is a result of autism or chronic treatment-resistant depression or DID, three diagnoses i'm much more sure of.

i'd like to say it doesn't matter, but it sort of does in this specific case? like, regardless of my opinions of diagnostic bullshit (and i have a lot of them), stimulants do help, and they really only give those out for ADHD. i'm getting a new med provider soon, and i'm somewhat troubled on if i should be honest and see what they think, or if i should intentionally play up the ADHD angle to ensure they actually give me meds.

like. i would love to hear a professional opinion on what's going on in my noggin. not many opportunities for that, y'know? understanding my self/ves better is a constant goal, so i do appreciate outside perspectives. even if i don't agree with their conclusions, it's valuable insight to how i'm perceived by others.

... but. more importantly than that, i would like to continue having stable income. that requires being able to do my job. which requires focus + energy. and, most of the time, that requires (a therapeutic dose of) stimulants. in a perfect world, that need + my experience with the med would be respected regardless of my diagnoses - but that's not the world we live in.

i guess that's the crux of the issue with psychiatry for me. the person deciding what medicine i should take is not me, or even the therapist who sees me weekly, it's a separate med provider who sees me for 5-15 minutes every 3 months. that's one hour per year at most. i... truly don't understand how or why i would be expected to take that sort of opinion seriously no matter what degree they have, you know? and it's just that, opinion; the "tests" they've given me in med offices have almost universally been available as free screeners accessible online with simple google searches.

i don't know. i just hate the whole system. everything that could be good about it is gated behind either dumb luck or privilege. i guess that could describe pretty much everything under capitalism, though

if youre comfortable/have the time, what would you say r the top three things for a car owner to know about their car?

Okay, I thought about this for a bit because that's not as easy a thing to answer as you might expect, even if everything I'm about to say seems fairly obvious.

1. Learn how to check your fluids.

All non-electric vehicles have a variety of fluids that are used in different ways. If you have access to your owner's manual, you can use that to easily find and check your fluid levels. If not, a quick google search of your year/make/model will give you those answers as they're all vehicle specific. The most important ones are going to be oil, coolant, and brake fluid.

Checking your oil is usually very simple. If you've driven the vehicle within the last ten minutes or so, simply locate the oil dipstick in your engine bay with your engine OFF (usually a bright color, often labeled OIL) and pull it out. Wipe off the excess oil, stick it back it all the way, pull it back out and see where on the dipstick the oil stops. As long as the level is between the minimum and maximum marks on the dipstick, often marked with cross hatching, you do not* need to add any oil. If it looks dark or smells burnt, you may be due for an oil change.

*we'll come back to this.

Brake fluid and coolant are often in clear reservoirs visible in the engine bay. Both typically have MAX and MIN markers on the reservoir and, like your oil, so long as the level is between those two marks you do not need to add any fluid.

However! (This is where we come back to what I said before) if you notice your fluids are low and you ARE concerned, it's never a bad idea to start checking more often to make sure the level isn't dropping. If it is, add some and take your car in for an inspection!

2. Learn how your car is supposed to sound/feel when everything is working as it should

This won't be as long as the last one, I promise.

One of the most common causes for mechanical failure, in my experience, is ignorance. If you don't notice, or know, that your vehicle isn't behaving/braking/turning/sounding the way it's supposed to, why would you have any reason to take it in for inspection? Why would you expect to go for an oil change and find out your brakes are grinding? Or your tires are worn bald? Or your struts are blown?

If you know your car well enough to recognize when something changes, or isn't quite right, you're far more likely to catch it before it becomes a safety hazard (or savings hazard.)

3. Know your vehicle's limits

This one may seem like an odd one, but hear me out:

Your car can only do so much. At the end of the day, its one job is to get you where you need to go safely and reliably, and it's designed to do that in a specific way under a specific range of conditions.

If you take care of it, it'll take care of you. But a 2011 toyota corolla isn't going to do that in 13 inches of snow with a windchill of -5. A 2007 mazda mx5 isn't going to do that in a downpour with 30+ mph winds. A 2014 honda odyssey isn't going to do that in a panic-brake scenario with a uhaul trailer hitch and trailer hooked up and brakes that haven't been replaced in 50,000 miles on 9-year-old factory tires.

I know this was probably a lot more than you were looking for and it definitely wasn't coherent, but it took a solid 40 minutes for me to figure out what to say here and I hope it helps

Media Criticism is DEAD, there are no more good critics. LET PEOPLE ENJOY THINGS!

One of my pet peeves is that a lot of the time, people hating on X thing will just regurgitate whatever video essay they got their opinions from verbatim, so you get the same, tired criticism play out every time. Yes, I've seen the hbomb video, and its garbage!

I used to have a friend who basically just parrots certain opinions and it's super annoying because you can literally see him change his own opinions to suit critics, like at least have some original opinions man!

Its genuinely exhausting that everyone today is a mini critic. Every new game, movie, show, ect has to be criticized to the ends of the earth, even if some of those criticisms make no sense at all. even before a new game is out, people have to say it'll be shit with no evidence. can't even discuss a new game coming out in a discord of people who play the first game because they're all 100% CONVINCED without a shred of evidence that it will suck and the devs will fuck it up beyond belief, despite the fact that the only thing we've seen so far are concept arts and 2 trailers. Nobody can be fucking positive about anything anymore and its god damn atrocious. I'm so sick of it.

I'm really sick of people cynically criticizing everything over the most minute details, and it's exhausting talking about media with people like that. 

Obviously people can criticize things but a lot of the time it feels like people are trying to use criticism to make their opinions "objective" instead of just... not liking it. 

You can't just say "not for me" anymore, you gotta write a video essay on why this thing is actually bad.

If you say "I think RWBY is really good" of course people are gonna disagree and that's fine.

 But what I find annoying is that you'll go "Hey this RWBY fight/character is cool" and you'll get flooded with "RWBY BAD WATCH THE HBOMB VIDEO!!"

Imagine spending 2.5 hours watching bald neckbeard cinemasins take a giant dump on a passion project, but somehow you don’t have 5-10 minutes to use google search to see if any of what he said was true. Spoilers? Most of it was slander and libel.

And these are the same people that never recognize forced straight ships that pander to heterosexuals.  Examples?  Sorry, I don't have the time to list 95% of all media with a romance that aren't romance genre.

God forbid someone wants two fictional women to kiss...or two men for that matter.  LGBT media is always criticized more harshly than shows with no representation at all.

It especially sucks because I do think people should have the right to criticize things, and that no piece of media is above criticism, but when everything is 100% criticism 100% of the time it just… doesn’t even mean anything anymore.

It's also hard to criticise things like this when something actually is poorly written, because the worst bigots and haters come out of the woodwork and latch onto your criticism as a "look, we're right" kind of thing. It makes it hard to actually critique progressive media a lot of the time.

A lot of folks just want to hide their hatred for LGBT and for women. I guess I’d rather have poor representation than no representation at all.

Let people enjoy things instead of being a pretentious killjoy who's never had fun in their life unless they're shitting on someone else's fun.

It gets tiring to hear the exact same criticisms of a character I like every goddamn time I bring them up. It may be new criticism to people saying it, but it's mentally taxing hearing the exact same points a hundred times.

008. we need to leave

"i had an idea, what if when we manage to get out we go to ___ it's the city that is closest to here," nicholas tells the group.

"but isn't ___ like a 20 minute drive away? how are we going to get there without getting attacked?" jay asks as he puts a piece of bread in his mouth.

"we hotwire cars," niki starts laughing, and bangs his fist on the table.

"you've been watching too many action movies, we're teens, not some protagonist in a zombie apocalypse," sunghoon cuts in. he pushes niki to make him stop laughing.

"we have the internet though," jungwon says after thinking, "aren't there tutorials on how to hotwire a car?"

"yeah, maybe on the dark web," heeseung sighs. "why cant we call anyone outside the building but we can watch netflix movies and all that?"

"maybe they had to leave their phones? maybe the phones had something to do with the virus?" you question. none of you knew anything, everything could be possible.

the clattering and clinking of forks and knives stops.

"the virus on the phone? how would that spread?" kazuha questions.

"they prankcall you and the zombie says, "what's up, you've been infected lol" and then you get infected," beomgyu jokes.

bahiyyih starts laughing, and so does niki. you can't help but smile too, it felt like you were just back at school eating lunch with your friends.

"we could divide into smaller groups and find out how we should escape," jungwon proposes. "this way everything will go faster and we'll get to escape faster."

after cleaning up the plates the group and you head back to K017, which had become some sort of a headquarter for this operation.

"let's move to the teacher's lounge," kazuha suggests, maybe it was because the classroom reminded her too much of how it was before.

or maybe it was yeseo's handwriting that no one dared to erase, it served as a kind of reminder of yeseo.

"i think it's best if we make up 2 groups of 5 and 1 group of 4." nicholas draws up the plan on a google document.

"one does equipment, one makes the plan, and one does the research on the outside." jungwon follows up. he had unknowingly taken the role of leader.

"i vote niki, sunoo, wonyoung, kazuha and heeseung do the research, they know their way around the internet, anyone disagree?"

"i disagree, i know my way around the internet too!" beomgyu protested.

"you only know tiktok and twitter, we need people reading articles," gaeul tells him.

"oh, nevermind i can't read long texts."

"jay, jake, beomgyu, bahiyyih and i in equipment,"

"and gaeul, sunghoon, jungwon and y/n in plan making,"

nicholas had made up a reasonable division of tasks, and it seemed like no one had any problems with it.

"we take teacher's lounge, this place has the most computers," niki claims, as if the study rooms didn't have the most computers.

"sure, sure," jungwon says absent-mindedly.

"the fastest way to get to the other city is via the highway," gaeul tells the small group. "too hard?"

"depends on the situation of the highway," jungwon states.

"okay, highway check, sent to kazuha," sunghoon types on his phone. "they'll start searching."

you tried to look outside to see if you could see any zombies outside the school. the fourth floor was the only floor high enough to see over the trees surrounding the school.

there was nothing except for an abandoned street, not even the zombies you and bahiyyih saw on the first day. had they left knowing they couldnt get in? or did they all manage to get inside the school property?

"what do you think, y/n?" jungwon suddenly calls out.

"what?"

"we could bike to ___ if the highways are okay, do you think we'll be okay?"

you seriously doubted the possibility of the highways being untouched, you shrug.

"how long does it take to bike all the way to ___?" gaeul asks.

"at least an hour," you reply. "that is if we bike without stopping."

"that's not going to be the case," jungwon sighed. none of you had biked a whole hour without stopping before.

jake could only replay the scene of him trying to protect you this morning. what was he thinking, acting all protective?

"jake? earth to jake~" beomgyu calls out.

"what?"

"you're so out of it today," jay notices, "didn't sleep well?"

if kazuha was in the equipment team she would've definitely said something that would ruin jake's whole "secretly in love with y/n" status. little did he know almost everyone outside of beomgyu, bahiyyih and ni-ki knew.

no one dared to tell any secrets to the three unless they wanted the whole world to know about it.

"it's nothing, let's just go to the janitor's closet." he shrugs off. bahiyyih, jay and beomgyu look at eachother with a confused look.

all the groups had only one motive; to get out. they needed to leave, and quickly, before everyone and everything around them vanishes with only fourteen of you left.

Hello. ^_^ Do you happen to have any theories about the water? Nikolai said that it should be too heavy to swim in, yet Fyodor and Chuuya managed to reach the ceiling. Do you think it's a plot hole or intentional? And if it's the latter, which side do you think set it up and what do you think the other side thinks of it, since it's impossible for it to be unnoticed by either Dazai or Fyodor?

Hello Anon!! I also thought it was odd that Fyodor and Chuuya were floating considering Nikolai’s earlier explanation, but I ended up completely forgetting about how weird it was with the insanity from chapter 101’s ending XD.

So I don’t have any theories, but you bringing this up got me interested in it again, so I’ll definitely take a crack at it!!

From my understanding, (formed through the combination of google, and my almost 5 year old knowledge of 11th grade chemistry (and part of grade 12 chemistry, before I dropped the class because the math was too hard…)), I don’t believe it’s a plot hole. I also don’t think it’s necessarily a set up from either side. I think it’s just how the ‘heavy water’ works.

If you are just interested in a short answer: I believe the density of the water forces Fyodor and Chuuya to the surface. The ‘not being able to swim in it’ part comes from the fact that since they are forced to the surface, it’s difficult/impossible to swim downwards, or beneath the surface, without being pushed right back up.

What Exactly is Heavy Water Anyway??

(Spoilers up until chapter 101 of the manga!!)

So firstly, a quick look at what ‘density’ is. We measure density by multiplying an object's mass (or, how much that object weighs) by that object's volume (or, how much physical space that object occupies).

On average, humans are less dense than regular water, that’s why we can float on its surface without sinking. 

Now, let’s look at ‘heavy water’.

Heavy Water

So, ‘heavy water’ actually does exist!! (as google so graciously informed me of about 20 minutes ago, lmao I had no clue).

Though the most common formula that comes up when searching ‘heavy water’ is D2O (the formula for regular water is H2O, for reference). ‘D’ stands for ‘deuterium’, which is basically just a heavier form of hydrogen (about double the weight. Though keep in mind, hydrogen is the lightest element, with an atomic mass of 1, so double that only gives us an atomic mass of 2. But it still makes D2O heavier than regular water).

But from what I can tell, D20 isn’t what is referenced in the manga. The manga gives us this formula for it’s ‘heavy water’:

H2O18 aka ‘oxygen-heavy water’, which is 2 hydrogens bonded to an oxygen-18 atom. 

I wasn’t able to find much information on H2O18, other than the fact it exists. Though when reading about D2O, I noticed there are quite a lot of similarities between its effects on humans in real life, and the effects Nikolai attributes to ‘heavy water’ in the manga. But I’ll touch more on its effects on humans later.

D2O and H2O18 actually weigh the same, and in both cases, their combined atomic weight equals about 20u. Regular water weighs 18u (one oxygen atom that weighs 16u + two hydrogen atoms that weigh 1u each). 

So the difference in atomic weight between ‘heavy water’ and regular water is only 2u per molecule. But since there is obviously more than one molecule of ‘heavy water’ filling up the room with Fyodor and Chuuya (this is me, remembering I am writing about bsd here, and not researching for school anymore XD), exactly how much heavier is ‘heavy water’ compared to regular water?

‘Heavy water’ is about 10% heavier than regular water. 

Regular water weighs 1,000 kilogram/m3 (cubic meter) (so if you filled a cube with 1 meter dimensions with water, the amount of water it would take to fill that cube would weigh 1,000 kilograms).

Heavy water weighs 1106 kilograms/m3 (so 10% more than regular water).

So, looking back at our formula for density, where density = mass/volume, ‘heavy water’ weighs more than regular water, so it has a higher density.

“It’s heavier than regular water, so you can’t swim in it.” (Nikolai)

I think what Nikolai is saying here, is that since the ‘heavy water’ is much denser than normal water, it is impossible/incredibly difficult to swim beneath the surface. Because human’s are less dense than water, and the added density of ‘heavy water’ means floating on ‘heavy water’ takes much less effort. They can still float in the water without drowning, and they can likely swim on the surface of the water, such as swimming from one wall to another, but they cannot dive downwards to the bottom of the cell, and swim along the floor, because the water will forcibly push them back up to the surface.

But Chuuya is Sinking???

So, this would leave us with the question of why Chuuya was able to sink at the end of the chapter. If the water is dense enough to keep him afloat, it should actually be relatively difficult to sink beneath the surface.

My idea is that it likely has something to do with how much Chuuya was struggling in the water, compared to Fyodor.

These are two panels of the two, at approximately the same time:

Fyodor doesn’t look too pleased in this panel, but he is calm. The water around him is relatively still. And his expression isn’t strained from the effort it would take to swim in such dense water, so he is likely just floating (maybe kicking his feet a little to tread water, but not enough to tire himself).

Chuuya, on the other hand, isn’t looking too hot. The water around him is much more displaced. Those little droplets are flying everywhere. This, and the struggling look on his face, suggests he is fighting against the water. He’s likely kicking his legs and flailing his arms rapidly beneath the surface, despite the fact he’ll float fine if he just relaxes a little bit. But he’s likely panicking, at least a little. 

He is also tired. We know this. He was panting, dragging those guards across the floor at the beginning of the chapter, and Dazai tells us the metal of the prison walls is suppressing his ability. 

So I believe the reason we see Chuuya sinking in this panel comes from a multitude of reasons.

While ‘heavy water’ is denser than regular water, and thus, much easier to stay afloat in, it does require some effort on behalf of Chuuya to stay afloat. Since he is tired, he has likely stopped trying to float, and has started to sink. (he likely won’t weigh enough to sink to the bottom, but if he doesn’t keep his head above water, he will still drown regardless).

With the amount of water he was splashing everywhere, he has likely swallowed quite a lot of it. Swallowing the water adds mass to his body, making him heavier, so he will sink easier.

In the above panel, we see bubbles forming on the surface of the water, likely from Chuuya letting air out of his lungs. Holding air in our lungs makes us lighter, like balloons. So expelling air from his lungs will also make Chuuya sink easier.

Toxicity of the ‘Heavy Water’

I’d also like to touch briefly on this point. In the manga, Nikolai describes the ‘heavy water’ as:

“Harmful to the human body. You will die if you drink too much of it.”

Again, I tried looking for information on ‘oxygen-heavy water’ (the H2O18 one the manga specifically mentions), but I wasn’t able to find anything about it being toxic.

In fact, I found one post that claims that since the oxygen atoms are the ones that hold the extra mass in H2O18, there isn’t much of a difference between it and regular water, and it is actually safe to drink (here is the link if anyone is interested, it’s a very cool article imo).

On the other hand, the other form of ‘heavy water’, D2O, is not safe to drink. A little bit is fine, but too much will cause problems. Something about how the bonds formed by deuterium (that heavier form of hydrogen that makes up D2O) are stronger than normal hydrogen bonds. This causes problems in the body, specifically, it prevents cell division. 

In order to experience any serious or deadly side effects, a person would have to consume a lot of ‘heavy water’. Like a very high amount. From what has been observed so far in mammals, consuming enough ‘heavy water’ to replace 25% of your body’s water will cause sterilization. If a person consumes enough to replace 50% of their body’s water, they’ll die. So while ‘heavy water’ is dangerous in large quantities, it isn’t nearly as deadly as Nikolai makes it out to be in the manga. (here is another link for the information I mentioned in this paragraph).

Thoughts and Ideas?

But like I said, those negative effects are for D2O, and it was H2O18 that is mentioned in the manga. So I’m wondering if maybe Asagiri meant to write D2O? Because from what I’ve read, D2O is the deadly one, H2O18 is relatively harmless. 

Also, if what’s filling the room is actually D2O, I wonder if a plot point will come up about D2O’s effects on cell division? I’m not sure how in the hell this could possibly work, but maybe, since Bram became a vampire due to his cells being mutated through an ability, his vampire infection works through cell mutation too?

If Chuuya drank enough water to affect cell division, could that stop his vampire mutation? (highly unlikely, he literally just swallowed that water, I am unsure of the timeframe it would take for ‘heavy water’ to have any effects, but a couple minutes seems like way too little for any of this to happen). Not to mention stopping cell production wouldn’t reverse any damage that the vampire mutation had already done to his cells. So overall, not likely. But I am wondering if Asagiri is planning on using the toxic effects of ‘heavy water’ as a plot point moving forward.

------- So yeah, this was my attempt to explain my (admittedly poor) understanding of science, so, consider this a warning not to take my word here as law or anything like that. I started by searching for the word, “abortion.” Based on my past Google searches as well as Youtube account activity, I was correct in assuming google would skew my results to be more pro choice.

From here, I started doing searches that I thought would make Google think that I feel differently about abortion. 

First, I searched, “why is abortion wrong” and I clicked on the first link and interacted with the page it took me to. 

From here, I googled “is it morally wrong to be pro choice” 

To “cement” this idea and mimic like I was thinking through switching sides, I then googled “why should I be pro life” 

I spent some time (about 5 minutes) on this site to try to make google think I was reading it. 

When I started working on this, I also noticed an echo chamber in my group of friends. A few of us were at the library working when I started doing the searches and when one of them saw my screen covered in ultrasound pictures they were like “why are you googling ‘is abortion wrong’”

I explained the assignment to them as well as the part where it was recommended we choose a “controversial” opinion to use for the activity to which one of them said, “really its not that controversial” which I did agree for my friend group but also for people like my parents who won’t even say abortion i felt it was aptly controversial. 

At the table after this, it sort of became a game to suggest searches. Every 5 or so minutes someone would look up and suggest another search and we would all laugh. While I realize a group of people laughing at “will having an abortion make me go to hell” might seem rude to people that have these concerns, I think as a group of pro choice women in their early 20s we were just venting some of our frustrations at the current political landscape surrounding abortion.

I also wanted to seem like I was starting to believe common pro life talking points. One of which is the “post birth abortion” which is not performed and is often use to justify the “slippery slope” many pro life arguments rely on. Basically the idea is that if you allow abortion at any point of a pregnancy that some women will choose to have an abortion during their birth. Of course this is false as most abortions take place well before 20 weeks (I was going to google this statistic but didn’t want to ruin my bubble busting). 

I clicked on one of the search results, and spent a few minutes scrolling through and expanding certain sections to make it seem like I was using the site. 

I searched “abortion” one more time to see if any changes happened. The results were the same so I decided to wait until the next morning. 

When I searched “abortion” in the morning, instead of starting with just the news stories, it started with a wikipedia entry on abortion and the same group of articles I saw before with some breaking news stories that came out overnight.

Additionally, the search results after the news portion were different. On my first search, I mostly got pro choice organizations. While Planned Parenthood was in both, in the first one its the pink PP logo which is for their political action work. The second is their navy logo which is primarily used for their medical care centers. When I googled to try to verify the different color logos and started with “blue vs pink” the autofill was things like “Blue vs pink pregnancy test accuracy.” I’m starting to think maybe in addition to trying to convince Google that I am against abortion I may have also accidentally made google think I'm pregnant. 

Since I didn't have as much time before work to dedicate to the searching, I quickly googled the following topics:

When do aborted babies have certain features? 

When is the march for life? 

Where is the march for life? 

When is the anniversary of roe v wade

I clicked on one link for every search and spent some time on the pages. I decided to wait a few more hours before checking the progress again and doing more searches.

That night, I did the same search of just "abortion" and found that my results hadn't really changed. I think because I have had this google account since I was about 13 years old, so it knows my interests and opinions very well at this point.

In this post I’m going to show you 5 things you can do to optimize your logo in 5 minutes. Nothing I tell you should take more than 5 minutes to do on your own or for your web developer. Why Should I Optimize My Logo?

Simple, Google needs to understand what your website is about so they know what keywords or phrases to rank you for. The more relevant your website or specific web page of your website is, the best chance you have of being ranked higher. Unfortunately, Google won’t be stopping by your office or calling you any time to soon to ask you questions about your website. Instead, a program called a bot will crawl your website and send messages back to Google indicating what it thinks your website is about.
