Offering

Luffy looks at Soro and Sanji. He reads them carefully and calculating. He hasn't asked for this, but he could not refuse their gifts. He wanted freedom, to be King of the Pirates was the easiest route to that goal, but he never wanted to subjugate. If he was to rule he would rule the willing. And now he looks at his hands: the two men who he has taken as best friends and as the tools he uses to create freedom.

He would never demand (or even ask) them or anyone to kneel to him. They follow by their choice, it is their freedom to choose.

He stands as captain with Zoro as his right hand. The blade he uses to cut through tyranny and the ever moving steel shield he uses to protect those in need. Zoro, who is not a hero but who acts heroic at every turn.

Luffy steps forward, and places a hand on the green-haired man's shoulder.

"Will you find shame in this?" He asks looking into his first mate's eye, searching for weakness or for regret. He finds none.

Zoro holds his gaze, "Scars on a swordsman's back are his shame, but I could never find shame in this." He shifts just barely, still unsteady at the uneven weight of his now bandaged back. The one black wing that remains tucked carefully against his body.

Instantly Sanji is there steadying him, matching his strength, supporting the imbalance of the loss of his wing.

Luffy's gaze softens as he touches the black feathers in Zoro's hands.

"Luffy..." Zoro trails off, as Luffy smiles and pats him gently on the shoulder again.

"I'm glad Chopper is taking good care of you." He says before his expression hardens once more.

This time he looks at Sanji who is supporting Zoro. "And you?"

Once again Sanji nearly falters under the heavy gaze of his captain. The weight of his attention, so rarely undivided, strikes him to his core.

"I would condemn myself to walk in order to see you fly." The words torn from him like an incantation, his hand tightens slightly on Zoro's arm and on the white feathers in his own hand.

Luffy watches his face, in every line of Sanji's face he sees the regret and the horror of what he has experienced in his life, but he also knows that Sanji's wing was the first to be removed. Luffy notices the shift in weight as Zoro now takes the supporting role. And a grin breaks across his face again.

His two hands, his two wings, perfectly matched once again.

"Okay then." He says with a laugh, shattering the tension in the air with the brightness of joy., "Let's see if we can get Traffy to sew them on."

“I did an oopsie.” 

Clockwork paused in his work, gaze turning from his work towards his ghostling (it didn’t matter if he was an adult, he’d always be his ghostling) who was smiling nervously, avoiding his eyes. 

“Oh?” He kept his tone light, even as he worked on untangling a time knot. Honestly at least Danny was immune to any effect of time, even if he couldn’t look into his timelines in exchange. It came with being the other half of Infinity. 

“Yeeah… you know that corner of the multiverse you told me not to go to because you’re working on some time problems? I might have stumbled into one of the worlds in the corner…” 

He stopped his machinations, fully turning towards Danny- Space, his Core whispered and quivered in utter delight at having an Equal in power- with a raised eyebrow, leaning on his staff and silently telling him to explain. 

Danny poked his fingers together, giving a nervous laugh. “So uh, I was just exploring right? Well me and Ellie, you know how she gets when she can’t wander, and um… I er, we might have messed with some things in the creation of it… I didn’t know it was part of that universe, I swear! It was so far at the fringes and halfway into the Zone and I couldn’t just let a universe die before it began and-”

Oh- Oh! His ghostling (and his grand-ghostlings it sounded like) had claimed his first universe! He could put off these time knots, this was a grand milestone for any Ancient, nevermind such a primordial force as one of theirs.

And this is how a DC world came into being with humans evolving with more avian traits. Like wings. And claws. Look, Dan thought it’d be funny if they gave baby humanity wings and Ellie started rambling about how much farther they could travel if they had them and Danny thought it could be cool. Oh well, time to keep an eye on their itty baby world now…

This is a shapeshifter!AU, where cultivators are winged creatures, able to change forms from human-like to feral and back. I named them "luan" (a name of a mythic bird I shamelessly borrowed from chinese mythology).

Liu Qingge's feral form is inspired by hawks of different kinds and a bit by a harpy (not a mythic one, but a real bird). Also, I couldn't miss the opportunity to joke that he's just so socially HAWKward :D *sounds of crickets in the background*

AKEMI

It’s a sketch but I haven’t drawn in so long my hand literally hurts T-T

Akemi with her small wings, decorative only. They glitter like gold and their only job seems to be betraying her thoughts and puffing up whenever she is angry. They also take ridiculously long to wash away any grime or sand they collect. High maintenance!

TAIGEN

Taigen’s wings are his pride and joy, wide and beautiful. They appear bluish green in this sketch but it’s mostly because of the night light. They are brown, just like those of an osprey. They shine with oil and attention they have just gotten at the brothel from all the lovely ladies he’s been drinking with.

Like I wrote before, he spreads them whenever he can, especially to goad.

(Pose comes from the pilot episode and no, it’s not because I didn’t master that beautiful man’s face yet, not at all…)

And now…

MIZU

That’s how her wings look like at the time of her first duel with Taigen:

Yeeeeesh… they look rough. She does cut them evenly, it’s just that lack of preening and being thrown through paper walls will do that to the person (Ignore Taigen - some have good hair genes, he has good feathers).

They are cut as short as she can keep them and are matted and just sad.

For comparison, here’s how they should look like

And much healthier, too! Shiny, glittering! I have a feeling that Mizu’s wings would be almost iridescent at the top, definitely pretty enough to make Taigen jealous. Also, wouldn’t it be hilarious if they reacted to the littlest bit of care like crazy and make Akemi green with jealousy with how low of a maintenance they actually are?

Too bad no one thought to teach Mizu how to care for them properly…

Wing Au? Wing Au. 

But see, ecto-contamination has an effect on those of Amity Park, even more so after their temporary stint into the Zone itself. They were there for hours, if not more, that has an effect on things. It’s like suddenly being transported in the middle of the sight of a nuke, there’s no way you aren’t getting irradiated. 

So their wings might start to… mutate a bit. Just shift and adjust here and there, grow bigger than how they should, with how flight had been lost so long ago. Some now covered in a waxy sheen, others bioluminescent, more with flickers of scales like moths. Others even further changed, the tops opening into maws, eyes blinking amidst feathers, leaves growing from bone like it’s a branch. 

And the Outside remains oblivious beyond the shields, unaware of the rising anger behind it as instincts of predators are returned and brought anew. Where the dead and the living meld into something new. Something Other to what they once were. 

And the GIW are starting to become concerned with how the things inside are searching for a way out. It… might be time to ask for assistance.

Wings AU character bits

Hi this is me trying to get a grip on writing again and getting the characters while also adding the wing bits.

Ice Harpy Eagle

Likes having long nails (harpy eagles have fuckin huge talons), keeps them shaped and neatly painted if he's in the mood when on leave

Likes to keep his nest cool and clean (comfy but practical)

Tall nesting! He always claims the top bunk! 

His childhood bedroom had one of those tall beds with a desk under them because he kept piling stuff up to sleep atop of them and it could fit multiple people 

Sad because Navy bunk beds are small :(

Strong as fuck (he's smaller than Sli but can bench press almost as much) (harpy eagles grab animals as big as them like sloths and carry them) (can carry others while flying if needed just not for lengthy flights)

Very keen eyesight so sunglasses for light sensitivity (maybe reading glasses for near sight focus? I like him with glasses)

Very good hearing (don't shit talk near him he'll definitely hear it)

Hair moves very slightly, similar to feathers (kinda like their facial disk and feather crest) 

*Baby feathers are almost all white with some light gray. They molt usually once a year (sometimes twice) and it takes 5 years to get the adult coloring 

Ice's stayed in a middle coloring and he got insecure. His mom suggested matching his hair and that's how the frosted tips came to exist :D

He's a provider by nature but his little sisters have made him very nurturing and affectionate too (Slider knows this firsthand and thinks it's hilarious how fussy Ice can get)(the others learn with time but first baby goose)

Leaves feathers around the house (perfectly placed thank you very much)

Slider Bearded Vulture

Lämmergeier means “Lamb vulture” (wrong because they don't prey on sheep but shhhhh).  Slider calls Maverick “Little lamb” as a joke because he loves annoying him and wants to eat him up

CAN ACTUALLY EAT BONES!!! (Bone soup is a thing!) Will chew on them till it's painful to watch and will take anyone's bones off their plates to pick the marrow off them

The bone dropping shows a lot in him just throwing stuff. He does it. A LOT.

He also likes to have a tennis ball around to fidget dropping it and catching it when it bounces

Has an actual nest bed. The mattress is on the harder side but it has a shit ton of blankets and pillows (to the point you can't feel the mattress)

There are old feathers around the nest tucked in between pillows (don't tell Ice!!) ⁠(⁠ ⁠⁄⁠•⁠⁄⁠-⁠⁄⁠•⁠⁄⁠ ⁠)

Very involved into the life of the ones he loves (helpful, affectionate, etc) (this includes parenting looks at baby goose)

His feathers only dye red when visiting his family or on vacation with family because they frequent iron rich waters (his mom loves her red feathers and looking at her baby look like her makes her teary eyed)

Maverick Peregrine Falcon

Very lightweight!!!

He's beauty, he's grace, he'll dive down and kick you in the face (literally, peregrine falcons kill prey by punching them with their closed talons when dividing)

Very keen reflexes (both at ground and on air), will grab anything you throw at him even if distracted

Very! Good! At courting!!!! (Looking at the beginning bar scene)

Small but comfy nest. Very soft and also bunk bed! is perfect

Has a favorite blanket that he will ALWAYS take everywhere, even on deployment 

Cracking his head fuckin open more than once as a kid because he's a menace and small and tried to dive from places he climbed (not his best idea)

crying because he's so small he can't carry goose after the accident and can just grab at him until they get rescued

Now this would be for trans! Mav

To everyone's surprise Mav is as big as he can get (Female birds of prey are bigger than males= bigger wingspan, human height is genetic so for avians is a bit mixed)

Wings don't allow binding (for obvious reasons) but kinesiology tape exists! 

He already used KTape before joining the navy and top surgery so he's used to just strutting around shirtless (we stan a short confident king! It's honestly so freeing to tape and be shirtless I might just leave him pre surgery for next fanart pieces)

Goose Emden Goose

Literally a Mother Goose™

Has learned to deal with Maverick and not only does he not get surprised by his antics, he can predict them and is already prepared for them (aka get ready to scoop tiny ass Mav if he gets in trouble or hurts himself)

The good part is that it has made him baby proof. He can deal with a child he's been dealing with Mav!

Terrified. Absolutely terrified. Because his beautiful baby gosling is as much a little shit as his wife and best friend. If his wings weren't already white they'd for sure be by now ಥ⁠‿⁠ಥ

I need to think more about Mav and Goose but that involves looking for Peregrine Falcon and Geese facts

Edit to take out the divider because I don't like it

i've drawn this because wings are cool?

i haven't read any fics yet but i know they exist!! i've drawn this edizzy in the top left corner like last year and i've decided it's time to draw more pairs of wings.

i imagined that in this universe basically sea=sky, you know that imaging of a ship sailing the clouds. winged humans are not able to float in the air for days like birds, they get tired very easily unless they're some kind of athletes, so they need harbors which are flying pieces of land. those islands don't move, only flying vessels can.

wings, despite their mass and size, are delicate and a very intimate part of the body so you're not allowed to touch it without somebody's clear permission.

the toe cutting scene is instead replaced with all primary and later secondary feathers to be torn out, which makes it difficult to fly before they grow back. izzy losing his whole wing may be difficult to replace with a prosthetic, but as a true izzy fan i need proper pain and suffering.
