On the World Health Organization's list of 10 chemicals of major public health concern, lead is a familiar villain. The toxic metal contaminates air, soil, water and food, and builds up inside bodies over time. Its most widely publicized health impact is neurological damage in children, often measured in the loss of intelligence quotient (IQ) points. But lead's pernicious effects don't stop in childhood nor at the brain. According to a new study in the journal Lancet Planetary Health, an estimated 5.455 million adults worldwide died in 2019 from cardiovascular disease (CVD) attributable to lead exposure — a toll more than six times higher than a previous estimate. The study goes on to provide what its authors say are the first monetary estimates of the total global cost of these lead-attributable deaths, along with the magnitude and cost of IQ loss in children under 5 years old. For 2019 alone, the study puts the combined toll of cognitive damage and CVD mortality at $6 trillion (based on projected loss of future income and an economic measure known as value of statistical life), with the greatest burden falling on low- and middle-income countries.

"Living with COVID19 doesn’t mean pretending the pandemic is over. If you go walking in the rain without an umbrella, pretending it’s not raining won’t help you. You’ll still get wet. Likewise, pretending a deadly virus is not circulating is a huge risk.
“Living with COVID19 means taking the simple precautions to avoid getting infected, or if you're infected, from getting seriously sick/dying. I'm asking all governments to update their policies to make best use of the life-saving tools to manage COVID-19 responsibly," the WHO chief pointed out.
Regarding COVID vaccination, Tedros said, the rates, even in rich countries, were still too low, noting that 30% of health workers and 20% of older people remain unimmunized.
“These vaccination gaps pose a risk to all of us," he said. “Please get vaccinated if you are not and a booster if it’s recommended that you have one."

It is easy to feel like you're losing your mind. We *are* being gaslit on a massive scale:
Although the WHO declared an end to the COVID public health emergency in May 2023, the organization has emphasized that the pandemic isn’t over... If we look at wastewater estimates, the actual circulation [of SARS-CoV-2] is somewhere between two and 20 times higher than what’s actually being reported by countries. The virus is rampant. We’re still in a pandemic. There’s a lot of complacency at the individual level, and more concerning to me is that at the government level... The misinformation and disinformation that’s out there is hampering the ability to mount an effective response... The COVID pandemic was not normal. This amount of death is not normal. It didn’t have to be this way. [Emphasis mine]
This is what the WHO is saying. They did NOT declare it over, although they are to blame for some of what's followed and should have anticipated that the way they announced the end of the 'public health emergency' was going to cause the thoroughly predictable situation we're in now.
It's possible they were being naive, but governments aren't. They are choosing to not just allow but encourage millions more people to die and become disabled.

Protect your health for as long as possible, it does not last forever.
Stop looking around at other people to match their behaviour, instead of at the firsthand information and then acting accordingly to it.
The group is stupid. This is why we roll our eyes about "groupthink behaviour". It's not a positive.

With diseases like monkeypox and HIV/AIDS, why do people shush others when they point out the very blatant association between these diseases and sodomy? Why are people so desperate to cover this aspect up because "stigma"? Also, why is such research generally discouraged in academia now? There's researchers out there who have to keep quiet about their studies on the prevalence of diseases amongst people who engage in a certain kind of sex because otherwise academic twitter is going to cancel them and journals are going to retract their work and what not? Even results on Google/Wikipedia brush over stuff lest it offend someone.
I thought the west was all about science and looking into health and raising as much awareness as possible but I guess not. They'll literally stay quiet about important things to put politically correct and w0kE spins on literally everything...even on health.
The hushed information just feels incomplete and half-assed as if they're hiding something (pls don't come at me with oh it was proved xyz doesn't cause this or that or whatever. there's plenty of correlation and people go out of their way to distract others from it for some reason)...
My only concern is why they tell others to stop talking about something when it is extremely relevant and valid to do so. Already their academia is forced to shape their research in a socially palatable way...not sure why twitter and tumblr wokes dictate the narrative and political correctness for everyone out there.

EDITORIAL: Taking COVID-19 vaccination seriously amidst 2023 election campaigns
EDITORIAL: Taking COVID-19 vaccination seriously amidst 2023 election campaigns
The build-up to the 2023 general elections will witness a sea change as from 28 September, when campaigns will officially begin. Nigerians have so far demonstrated considerable interest in the political transition, with massive turnouts for fresh voters’ registration and polemical exchanges by political parties and interest groups that are eager to beat the gun. More than 12 million voters have…

WHO defines airborne diseases to prevent another COVID-like situation; Focuses on exposure risk and disease severity - News Healthcare
The World Health Organization (WHO) for the first time has reached a consensus on the definition of airborne disease transmission.  According to a report by news agency Reuters, this unified understanding aims to prevent the confusion experienced during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, which some scientists believe led to loss of life.  Released by the Geneva-based U.N. health agency,…

— British Artist Yusuf Islam, Formerly Known as Cat Stevens, posted on X calling for Israel to be held to account. In his post, he said "I don't think we can ever look at Israel the same again. People have finally woken up to the long years of injustice inflicted upon the Palestinian people."
Stevens adds that the arrival of social media has countered reliance on the media for learning about the plight of Palestinian people.
On Monday morning, Israeli forces withdrew from Gaza's Al-Shifa Hospital after a two-week siege. The entire medical complex was left in ruins with bodies found scattered in the vicinity.
— A Norwegian Doctor Who Previously Volunteered in Gaza shared scenes from the aftermath of the Israeli army's siege on al-Shifa Hospital and condemned the assault.
"The name Shifa meaning 'The House of Healing'; now turned into a 'House of Death' by Israel and the US, burnt, totally destroyed to rubble and turned into a graveyard of patients, medical staff, relatives and refugees," wrote Dr Mads Gilbert in a post on X.
Earlier on Monday, Israeli forces withdrew from the hospital after a two-week siege, leaving in its wake destroyed buildings and piles of dead bodies.
Military officials said that its forces killed 200 people and arrested 900 during its 15-day military assault on the hospital. Gaza's civil defence put the figure of those killed at around 300. The army said it conducted its raid without harming civilians and medical personnel, but medical organisations and eyewitnesses have strongly rejected the claim.
Tumblr media
The World Health Organization said at least 21 patients died during the siege. Survivors told Middle East Eye that scores of civilians were killed during the fortnight-long siege. Gaza's civil defence arrived at the hospital on Monday to begin a recovery operation following Israel's withdrawal.
Outside in the courtyard, people dug graves to bury those killed whose bodies were left to rot over the past two weeks. Wafa news agency reported that a temporary cemetery that had been set up in al-Shifa was dug up by Israeli forces, with bodies exhumed and dumped in different areas of the hospital.
— Isra-heili Prime Minister Benjamin 🐖 Satan-Yahu called on the Knesset to pass the so-called Al Jazeera law this evening, which would allow the government to shut down foreign news networks operating in Israel.
The law would allow the prime minister and the minister of communications to order the closure of foreign networks in Israel and confiscate their equipment if they believe they pose "an actual harm to the state's security".
Tumblr media
Netanyahu promised to "immediately act to close Al Jazeera" after the law passes.
The prime minister's Likud party said that he spoke with coalition whip Ofir Katz to ask him to ensure the bill's passing through second and third readings today.
— The Israeli army announced the death of 20-year-old soldier Nadav Cohen and updated its death toll, saying 600 soldiers have now been killed since the start of the war in Gaza.
Of those 600, 256 have been killed since the beginning of the army's ground invasion.
— A Palestinian Surgeon was among those killed by Israeli forces during its two week raid on al-Shifa Hospital.
Tumblr media
Ahmad Maqadmeh was killed during the siege, according to his friend and colleague, British-Palestinian doctor Ghassan Abu Sitta.
"We worked together in the Great Marches of Return and the 2021 war and then this recent war. His dedication was unlike anything I have ever seen. We will never forgive," Abu Sitta wrote on X.
"He spent this war going from Shifa hospital to Al Quds Hospital and when he was free he would join me at Al Ahli. Always dedicated, always wanting to learn.
"He refused to leave the north and kept sending me photos of his surgeries. He leaves behind a wife and baby."
Abu Sitta added that Maqadmeh was a former recipient of the UK's Royal College of Surgeons' humanitarian innovation fellowship.

— Isra-heili Prime Minister Benjamin 🐖 Satan-Yahu will undergo hernia surgery tonight, his office announced.
His hernia was discovered by doctors "during a routine examination".
During the period of surgery, Justice Minister Yariv Levin will serve as acting prime minister.
The timing of Netanyahu's surgery is deemed critical, as families of Israelis held hostage in Gaza are staging a protest outside the Knesset building in Jerusalem, calling for a deal to release their relatives and accusing Netanyahu of deliberately sabotaging efforts to secure an agreement with Hamas.
On Saturday night, thousands of anti-government protesters took to the streets in Tel Aviv, chanting slogans against Netanyahu and calling for the government's resignation and early elections.
— World Health Organisation Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said around 9,000 patients urgently need to be evacuated from Gaza for lifesaving treatment abroad.
These patients are in need of treatment for wounds suffered in Israeli bombing, cancer treatment, kidneys dialysis, and treatments of other chronic conditions, Tedros wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
