Ok, I watched Whiplash for the first time about a month ago and I MEAN- (I can't believe I haven't seen it earlier)

Amazing movie! I seriously think this is one of my favorite movies of all time now. Great acting, great cinematography, great editing, great story. Intense and thrilling in all the right places, the soundtrack is outstanding (obviously), the deep multi-faceted relationship between Fletcher, Andrew, greatness, obsession, and music. It's dark and I love it.

I had always seen clips of this movie, but I don't know why I didn't just go and see it, IMAGINE seeing this in theaters. damn. Anyway, this is a long winded way to say that I've been obsessed (which is also thematically appropriate) with this film. I've listened to the soundtrack multiple times, watched all the interviews, know all the fun facts, seen almost every Youtube analysis to man, watched all the fanedits, read the fics, watched La La Land, started going through Miles Teller's other movies like The Spectacular Now, Top Gun Maverick, realized JK Simmons voiced the yellow M&M and Ford from Gravity Falls and Cave Johnson and every other piece of media from when I was younger. I'm down so bad guys, help.

Please go watch the movie, if you haven't seen it! (Except if you're a minor, it's R rated sorry! But it's like the most asexual R rated movie I've ever seen haha) (And only if you're in a good head space, it's very stressful, there's yelling and abuse) It's about jazz drumming and passion turned to obsession. So do with that what you will :) It's on Netflix right now!

Besides my descent into madness, (as this is still an art blog haha), I'm really proud of this piece. I've really worked on my realism (can you tell?) and I'm getting to a place where I'm pretty happy with it. I also bought Corel Painter on sale recently, and now I can do cool text and stuff, I will be experimenting... Hopefully I can work on more art for this movie!

Since the WGA and SAG-AFTRA Strikes are going on, I'd just like to point out the Irony of the Studios real quick here...

So, You have seen reports of Studios from the AMPTP being so Hyper Invested into A.I. as A Cost Cutting Measure and their way of saying like "Wowie, A new tool for us to make our movies very epic!!!"

(you know stuff that the WGA and SAG are against with, and I am too.)

I just like to point out how the studios didn't think this one though with that decision because, LITTERALLY the two films for this year "The Creator" (20th Century Studios/Disney) and "Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning" (Paramount Pictures) are portraying the literal existence of A.I. is a threat.

Do the Studios not realize the irony here????

Did those studios even knew about the stories of the films they are producing???

I have no clue what is going on anymore...

Scarian Hunger Games AU!

So! In how the books/movies go, Grian would be Katniss in this scenario, living in District 12. The Mockingjay, symbol of the rebellion against the capital in this Hunger Games universe.

He'd be the one to go instead of Pearl (his sister who was chosen but Grian volunteered in her steed), the other pick will be Big B. Going along with the first book/movie: they play up being "Star crossed lovers" like Peeta, Big B is actually in love with Grian.. by the end of it when they are the two alive they stage that suicide deal with the berries until the announcers like "Congratulations, our winners of the 74th Hunger games!" yada yada- causes the uprising

So moving onto the 2nd book/movie, 75th annual HGs- the president(who i think I might make Evil Xisuma) makes it so past winners are the ones who go into this one (cuz ykno gotta kill Grian, the person who made the districts rebel again) Grian and Big B would’ve been the 2nd and 3rd only winners of District 12 (idk who I wanna be the first winner) MEANING they're both going to be forced into the 75th HG (cuz big b would refuse to let the first winner go) now this is where it will get into my own little idea of how it'll go cuz this is where Scar comes into play! He's a past winner, from 10yrs ago! (What me making him to be like Finnick?? who would've thunk it!!)

Grian and Scar see each other for the first time in the starting ceremony thingy where each victor rides the chariots down the thingy for all of the ppl to see and the president welcoming them or w/e.. Scar would be wearing the same thing finnick was in the film (as seen here)  So ykno, imagine that as Scar, scars and scitties galore, waltzing up to Grian. ofc Grian is like wow- this man is attractive. 

Scar is apart of the rebellion, so is the new games master (who rigged this whole HG like in the book/movie)(who i have no idea who to make that as yet, could be Bdubs, i think thatd be funny) and it's Scar's job to keep Grian alive (BigB helps cuz he is in on it as well) and befriend him, become allies-- Mumbo is gonna be there too (he'd be like Beetee from the book/movies) and also befriend them inside the arena uwu ANYWAYS While getting to know one another the whole week before the games start, training and all that jazz.. Grian starts falling for Scar and same goes for Scar to Grian! So when they get into the games their love blossoms further but ofc they cant show it cuz the world thinks Big B and Grian are together!! DRAMA!! (ofc bigB doesnt care, he's over Grian) anyways yeah itd be tense and stuff until they escape the arena, Grian barely making it out alive

basically, they get to District 13, the rebellion is in full swing lol Grian the face of it as "the mockingjay"

i think i'll make Tango be like who Johanna is in HG.. I think he'd fit her fiery angry self lol 

some Scar angst (like finnicks wowie so original) Victors, who are seen as desirable, are sold off to people after winning.. Those people can do whatever they please to that Victor they bought time with. So you can imagine what he has been through.  He uses that after awhile though, to gain information about a lot of things. and is a big asset to the rebellion cuz of it. 

also also Scar would be around 30ish in this and Grian 20 (this is my au the ages are different *rattles the bars of my cage*)

Hello! I'm not sure if you're still doing request but if you do, I'd have one!

So, I was wondering how Blu and Papyrus would react if their s/o really REALLY liked cartoons and animated movies. Like, they prefer cartoons over most films. However they are emberassed to admit it because people close to s/o, often made of them.

If it wasn't obvious, it's something that I've been currently dealing with, and I feel like people shouldn't be made fun of just because they like something "childish". If it makes me happy, I don't see how it involves another person.

I think that sometimes Blu and Papyrus are considered "childish" , when technically they are adults. So I kind of relate to them??

Anyway, sorry for the long talk '' '' ''

Blueberry: He doesn't mind at all that you enjoy cartoons! He thought that they were a lot of fun to watch, and he loves seeing how people draw them… you know, he almost got into this sort of thing? Animation! He thought it would be a lot of fun, but he stopped when he was younger. If you ever want to watch cartoons with him, you'll have to deal with him talking about the animation style and how it's impressive, and him bouncing his legs or wiggling around. He has a really hard time sitting still. If someone ever teases you or bullies you about your interests, he'll stand up for you! It might not help way too much but he's still gonna do it!

Papyrus: Wowie! He loves cartoons as well! He really likes watching them because of the styles and the nice bright colors! They really tickle him in such a nice way that normal movies can't… plus, they keep his attention better, and he has no idea why. He doesn't quite understand why people think that movies and cartoons are just for children, he doesn't agree with that at all. There are so many stories and things that you're supposed to learn from those shows and honestly, from some of the humans that he's seen they could deal with learning that again. It shows you how to care about people other than yourselves! It seems a lot of people have forgotten that ability.

oh wowie someone remembers this!!!!

i wrote down a summary of a good portion of the plot, and i have this very lazy little drawing with liz and charlie from a bit ago (all the way down at the end)

-

after a few failed attempts of owning restaurants (all linked to death), william and henry come up with an idea for a show that increasingly gets more dark in content as the show progresses.

it starts off more sitcom-y and works its way up to being high production and dark in plot. the whole show they run is just a reenactment of the fnaf lore basically. what would happen if william killed kids in am attempt to study and gain immortality and accidentally kill himself in a suit of his and henrys creation? who knows!

little does anyone know that the deaths linked to their dead and gone restaurant franchise would come back to bite them in the ass, as the souls of those who died now haunt the set the show is filmed on (making way for some good behind the scenes commentary)

a big part in the production of their show is method acting. the whole immortality thing was getting a bit interesting for william. a little too interesting… in a long process of getting life insurance, paying things off, creating a will and testament, plus many attempts to stray away from this plan (courtesy of henry), william springlocks himself for the show, and it gets cancelled, only resurfacing after a long while, until they decide to reboot the show…

william survives this all. his method acting was definitely something since his body very accurately rotted over a couple of decades, just what the story called for! williams determination to finish a show that he’s truly satisfied with basically takes over his every thought, while henry suggests compromise after compromise to get william to stop endangering himself and others through production. it was never enough to get him to stop.

anyways in between a lot of this, a bunch of behind the scenes things, bonus features, interviews, things like that fill in a lot of outside relationships with everyone. for the most part, they’re all buddy-buddy with eachother, even the animatronics!! (yes, the animatronics are sentient here. all just because i enjoy them having personalities)

tl;dr, william covers up the murders with a show. the props were real.

EPISODE 1 SEASON 1. spoilers FYI

Just watched the first episode. Gotta say, I freaking enjoyed it. I can't wait to see where they take it in the next few years. I will be supporting the shit out of it.

Pros:

-I love love love the minotaur fight scene. Wowie. Wow. My expectations were totally exceeded.

-I love how it's not clear who Percy's dad is. Like, we're not supposed to know. It's supposed to be a grand reveal, and I want my head to be freaking blown off when he gets claimed. SWOON.

-Walker Scobell and Aryan Simhadri and Virginia Kull are great. A++++. I love how emotional it is. It feels real, and that's really important to me. there's a lot of integrity.

-Love the end credits. UGH.

-Overall, I'm super excited.

Cons:

-in the book, gabe is a SUPER CREEP. An achoholic, gross, slimeball. He abuses sally and she submits to it because he's a DICK. In the show, that is not the same vibe. Part of the reason they KILL him is because he's SO BAD. he's not quite as gross in the show. but okay. not sure how valid this rant is.

-THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO BE POOR. Some things that were done up, were so ridiculous. The montauk cabin? It's supposed to be a hole in the ground. that shit looked nice as hell. And so did the apartment. Just saying.

-I wish grover hadn't "betrayed" Percy to get him kicked out of Yancy. I know, I know. Just bugging. But still.

-the fight with ms. dodds was kinda lame. LOL SORRY. but the minotaur scene makes up for it so I forgive :)

-my biggest con are the little things from the book that aren't the same. like why change something that could literally have been the exact same. but okay.

Not going to go crazy about the differences. I need to silence my inner fifth grader and accept the changes, which are bound to happen for any film adaptation of a book. That is all folks. On to episode 2.

tw: fair descriptions of injury?? if you dont like blood uhh dont read <3 this is just me reminiscing on being a child who thinks they cannot feel. pain. sorry if its incoherent im very sick and life feels like a fever dream and i did not sleep last night! this is so diary-entry-core TLDR i had a lot of random injuries and a few medical mysteries.

i keep looking at the middle of my chest like "man where the fuck did i get this scar from" and then i remember this one childhood day where i was filled with hubris and slid down a chain in a playground and my skin tore from under my shirt and i started bleeding terribly ill also occasionally look at the permanent callouses on my hands and remember running down a hill at full speed, followed by rolling down a hill at full speed, crashing into rocky concrete, looking down at my hands and being utterly terrified because they're entirely covered in blood???? its all red??????? also spinning on the biggest rock in the rock garden in front of my house after a friend's birthday party blowing bubbles when i lose my footing and land chin-first into the sharpest rock there, getting blood all over my favourite party dress and having to go to the ER for 6 hours and getting, not stitches, but glue. yeowie. i scratched most of the scar off somehow, just tearing the skin off my face because i didnt like the texture. its still kind of there if you look at the right angle. being in gymnastics class, doing beat swings on the high bars, thinking "whey my hands hurt im gonna drop and get some chalk (for some reason. its not like i was slipping i was just yeowch)", dropping down, looking at my hands and LO AND BEHOLD three inches of the skin beneath my ring finger on both hands is sticking up stupid vertical ! i couldnt use my hands too good for the next two weeks, also the skin sticking up WAS NOT DEAD so i couldnt trim it without feeling excruciating pain. like cutting your ear off :( not really a "when i was younger" thing, still valid now, but i have hyper mobility so im stupid flexible. especially in my ankles! like i cant do sports without wearing ankle braces on both legs. even that cannot save me sometimes, i still die. anyway my mum thought i was a piece of shit and was faking my ankle injuries bc the limping would last like. a whole month wowie! then we realised i just have bad joint. also i can hit the splits anywhere without stretching, i can walk on the literal sides of my ankles (not like. the sides of my feet no no no. go even further beyond.), i can fold my fingers backwards into silly lookin curls without any pain and keep them there no issue, and i have gotten many MANY greenstick fractures even after my bones developed a lot because my bones soft and refuse to break like a normal persons. like my basketball coach will bend my leg back to test how far it goes and i wont feel any pain and he'll say like. "oh thats waaaay too far back to be safe." and ill laugh because it can go WAY further back! and i hate it !

BONUS: ME BEING A MEDICAL MYSTERY WOOOOO up to age 8 i would have these ... seizures? all throughout the night. i would shake super aggressively and it wouldnt wake me up. my mum filmed it one night when she finally caught it on video (she would stay up HOURS ON END trying to catch it. wild). the shaking would start like a twitching at my fingers and would travel to my hand, to my arm, to the rest of my body and youd think i got fucking electrocuted. anyway she showed it to doctors and they brought me in immediately to scan my brain for fuck knows what and they didnt. find anything? like my brain activity was completely normal. they didnt let me out of hopital for a week cus theyre like "THIS ISNT NORMAL SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THIS KID" but. womp womp. we never found out. i dont shake anymore but i do shmove a lot. like, a lot a lot. and im always tired and im capable of falling asleep standing up. and have minor chronic fatigue. also i had a bullseye-type thingy on my thigh that really, REALLY looked like a tick bite! i was in immense amounts of pain and couldnt properly walk. there was a dot in the middle, and this surrounding ring of red would expand and shrink overtime. very reasonable to think of it as a tick bite. anyway my parents carried me out to the car in the middle of the night so we could go to sick kids. they measured how much the ring would expand by (i dont remeber number. it was beeg.) and then they sent me to the ER out of the concern that i would get lyme disease. they tested me or something idk i was unconcious and. IT WASNT A TICK BITE! you may be asking "so what was it, mr gorgeous fish?" um. well heres why this is in the 'medical mystery' section. they never found out. it went away a day later and we were just like "ah. okay." so. whoops. when i was a toddler they put me in an mri thing where they uh. strapped me down because toddlers usually freak out and damage the mri thingy? anyway. was in there for two hours. and i did not freak out. at all. i was asleep for one of the hours, but the second one i just laid there very awake and very still and the doctors thought i had brain. damage. i didnt! yay ! i also have many chronic illness now. weeeee i probably missed a lot of my stories here but anyway. heres me being silly

Happy 80th Birthday to Private Snafu!

Snafu.......Situation Normal All........All Fouled Up!

A series of World War 2-themed animated short films screened for young military men. They were mainly instructional, educational films, but still contained that same irreverent, slapstick comedy style of humor of the Looney Tunes & Merrie Melodies, thanks to the contributions of the boys of Termite Terrace: Chuck Jones, Bob Clampett, Friz Freleng and Frank Tashlin, and voice legend Mel Blanc.

The intention these cartoons had on the military audiences was that, the titular character, Private Snafu was an incompetent soldier that was meant to illustrate, in more straightforward way, what NOT to do (true to his name that is), with practically each short ending with Snafu getting blown.

Imagine how different it could've been if Disney had done these instead of Warner Bros., as that was the United States Army’s first choice. But that didn't happen as Leon Schlesinger would bid lower than Disney.

These shorts, of course, generally remained obscure in the minds of the mainstream audiences (until recently that is) as they never were intended to be shown in public theaters. As Martha Sigall, a staff of the ink-and-paint department at Leon Schlesinger Studios, stated these Private Snafu cartoons were top secret. They wore ID badges, did fingerprints, got FBI approval and were given ten cels rather than the usual thirty cels, to prevent them from knowing about the stories.

Therefore, it was never made for a general audiences of kids and adults as the publicly released Looney Tunes shorts were, especially considering it’s content; mild swearing (i.e., damn, hell) and fanservice displayed all over these cartoons that couldn't have been possible in the days of the Hays Code (it's especially surprising to note that Ted Geisel, AKA Dr. Seuss, of all people, was the main writer for THESE!!! Wowie!!!!). 

Fun fact: (one of the shorts titled “Censored” was shown on Cartoon Network’s trivia show Toonheads late at night with half of the scene featuring a topless Sally Lou cut out!)

And, naturally, because this was a WWII-themed series, featured a good deal of derogatory depictions/imagery of Japanese/Germans and Nazis (which will not be shown here).

It's interesting to see not only how strongly connected Private Snafu is to the Looney Tunes, considering, not only the same style of humor, but the two cameo appearances of Bugs Bunny (Gas and Three Brothers), which could make Snafu himself a Looney Tune. 

This is especially considering his early bird cameo in Chuck Jones’s The Draft Horse.

Later on, Private Snafu would not only be done by Warner Bros., but also by it’s competitors, like MGM, UPA, Harman-Ising and Disney. 

Two shorts were left unproduced. One of them was originally going to be directed by none other Tex Avery at MGM. Too bad that didn’t happen!! 

Though the Private Snafu series maybe a time capsule of World War 2, as oppose to being as timeless as the classic Looney Tunes cartoons are, they still serve as a fascinating historical art, a look at what our world was going through, and still included a lot of the trademark style of humor seen in the Warner Bros. cartoons that still kept it entertaining enough.

note despite using like spacelander, and flatlander in my lore that's just general slang and not a specific species

some general lore for my version of flatland + spaceland. [feel free use, this is too fire to keep to myself]

The more spaceland interacts with flatland, the more corrupted and warped flatland gets from it's original intereptation and becomes more similar to spaceland.

from like color to other oddities. to becoming vaguely more 3d-ish. Though like the limit is kinda like game and watch in smash.

They always stay ridicliously thin, and can sort of "flip" to hide themselves in 3d spaces.

in my lore flatlanders can sort of become "betweenlanders" idk what to call them atm, but not quite flatlander or spacelander though it's not common.

Where alot of the more specific traits aren't seen like not being ridiculiously thin or just generally becoming more spacelander than flatlander. though they are generally seen by flatlanders and spacelanders as highly uncanny

below are like the stuff

1. the probably closest to being able to see a flatlander, the "base" form. inspired by our fellow @fatigued-dreams

2. kind of like the main good flatland movie, visble eyes

3. the other worse film of flatland. Gain color, and like thin "skin"

4. typically arms are developed, but sometimes legs instead. general lack of ability with newly gained limbs. Eyes and Mouth sort of merge bill cipher style. Patterns begin forming and more tougher skin begins developing. Eye also begins moving towards center

5. Kind of like molting, better ability with new limbs eye is more centerlized. A new mouth is beginning to form with newly gained gumms.

6. The not yet seen limbs are now here and are not the best at moving yet. mouth is developed forgor to draw it. gummy but teeth are coming in, often will chew on things impulsievly.

7. the awkward teenage stage, extra eyes or mouths start to sort of form while the flatlander sort of influences how they'll be.

8. Things really settle, usually will begin wearing clothes & sometimes small tuffs of hair will pop up.

9. More abnormal shapes not seen in flatland proper will typically be seen, and like tails or more visble ears will also be seen. typically increased hair growth

10. pico is like a final, but pretty much as developed as any flatlander will be though hardest stage to really reach as this stage is notable for being pretty hard to tell between a shapelander & flatlander unless they willingly show it off. has like added lungs or sacs to hold air or other things typically water or air to help them seem more 3d-y.
