Okay, I have officially gotten to the post-timeskip era of the show in my rewatch, so time for some overarching thoughts!
Basically, I owe my past self an apology, because a lot of things I'd assumed I missed the first time around due to being overwhelmed with information/ relying on Netflix's iffy subs/ not paying close attention... are simply not present in CQL canon and/or aren't explained.
Sunshot, for example. I came away from the show thinking Sunshot had only lasted for a few months, and up till now had felt very silly because it's a massive multi-year war, right? NOT IN THE SHOW IT ISN'T. Sunshot begins in earnest in response to Lotus Pier's destruction; it is introduced alongside the core transfer, which occurs 1-2 weeks after Lotus Pier's destruction. When WWX returns from the Burial Mounts three months + 1 week later, he hangs out with everyone in the Unclean Realm for around a month before they make a final push against Nightless City. No other military action is shown during this time. Based on all the timestamps given, the active combat portion of this war took place over a period of less than 6 months.
(the following is said with the full understanding that I might sound like an insufferable CinemaSins video)
The consolidation of the Massacre at Nightless City and the First Siege of the Burial Mounds to one terrible, horrible, no-good very bad couple of days also diminishes it. All the Wen remnants--every single one of them!! nobody is left there when WWX wakes up!--just decide to let themselves be executed on the off-chance that WWX will be left alone with his sought-after cursed object and get to happily rejoin society after accidentally killing his brother-in-law. Why on earth would they all agree to that, especially without consulting WWX first? WQ and WN alone, sure, but ALL of them? Even A-Yuan's caregivers? WQ herself says that the jianghu gentry already decided WWX is guilty no matter what proof WWX offers! How will this solve anything!
(On the topic of the Burial Mounds: I assume that the reason the Burial Mounds are inhabitable and people are freely able to come and go without getting obliterated by ghosts is that WWX tamed the place during his time there earlier. Otherwise, it isn't "WWX spent 3 months cultivating resentment to survive until he was powerful enough to escape thanks to his hard-fought refinement of the Yin Tiger Tally" and more "WWX spent 3 months doing evil ghost science in a desolate yet fully habitable haunted forest just because.")
I also didn't get what the big deal was about WWX, because he... didn't really do anything? And again, I figured I must've just missed something, but no! He does atrocities at Yiling as he pursues Wen Chao and then he just sits there dodging concerned questions from loved ones and punching JZX over soup until the last minutes of the final battle, during which he summons some evil clouds that make people fall down. That's it. And then everyone, himself included, acts like he's the strongest and scariest dude ever. Part of the problem is that they only have like 50 extras in any of the battle scenes so there's no sense of scale, but even if there WERE hordes of CGI dudes... that is one battle, one time. Declaring himself an instrumental part of Sunshot is an overstatement, and it also raises the question of why he didn't use Chenqing or the Yin Tiger Tally sooner. He does nothing but use Chenqing as a baton until things get truly dire. I'd be suspicious of him too, if I'm honest!
And Wen Ning! Wen Ning, the oh-so-scary Ghost General, kills like a dozen guys one time and people think he's a terrifying death machine. This could have been chalked up to overblown rumors--oh, WN is just a little guy! he is just sitting there with his turnips! it's so messed up that people think WWX's trusty soft-spoken friend is a mindless tool for violence! UNTIL QIONGQI PASS 2.0, where WWX uses him as PRECISELY THAT. Why is WN coming with him to Jinlintai anyway, if not as a weapon? He certainly wasn't invited as a guest! Does he really think JGS is going to let the not-zombie who killed his employees come to his grandson's party when JC isn't even willing to let WN attend the surprise soup picnic?
Speaking of Qiongqi Pass 2.0, I do not understand why, if the whole thing was a nefarious scheme orchestrated by JGY to kill his brother and cause turmoil, WWX and WN were allowed to return to the Burial Mounds. SMS has the ability to control WN, and WWX can't fly on a sword. Just use WN to subdue WWX, capture them both, take the Yin Tiger Tally from WWX, and gain your father's esteem for obtaining the cursed object he wants and bringing his favorite son's murderers to justice! Come ON, JGY! If you're going to be extra evil, at least be clever about it! You aren't even at your breaking point yet!
I think the adaptation changes--the Yin Iron stuff, the not-zombies, XY working with WRH, the fairy statue backstory with WN's soul being easily detachable--actually do work in the front half of the show, where it's not following the text as closely. These things go together decently on their own! But from Sunshot onward, the new lore and changed characterizations that can't be fully discarded clashes with novel canon plot points that are too major to skip. It's a weird reversal of what happened with the first FMA anime, where the first half more or less follows the manga with some core changes baked in, and the second half deviates based off those changes since it outpaced the manga and didn't want to spoil it, resulting in two high-quality but fully distinct canons. Here, with the story unfolding chronologically, we have a first half that deviates with a lot of new content, and a second half that has a text to follow, resulting in ????
I'm still having fun, but I knowwww thinking about literally anything is gonna be such a mess from here on out. It's a testament to how much I like the actors' work and the expanded time with the supporting characters (and how much I do NOT vibe with Book Wangxian lol) that this is still my preferred canon.

GJ and ZZH Updates — July 09-15
<<< previous week || all posts || following week >>>
This is part of a weekly series collecting updates from and relating to Gong Jun and Zhang Zhehan.
This post is not wholly comprehensive and is intended as an overview, links provided lead to further details. Dates are in accordance with China Standard Time, the organization is chronological. My own biases on some things are reflected here. Anything I include that is not concretely known is indicated as such, and you’re welcome to do your own research and draw your own conclusions as you see fit. Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, concerns, or additions. :)
[Glossary of names and terms] [Masterlist of my posts about the situation with Zhang Zhehan]
07-09 → #WordofHonor trended on Twitter.
07-10 → The Cyberspace Administration of China announced thirteen new regulations for improving news media transparency and authentication. This includes clear display of platform qualifications and affiliations, clear citation and dating of sources, labelling of if content is disputed, include clarifying updates at the top of articles, and removal of content found to be rumor-mongering.
→ Hogan posted a photo of Gong Jun from Go Fighting! episode 6, highlighting their shoes.
07-11 → Fresh posted a photo ad featuring Gong Jun. (1129 kadian)
07-12 → A very tiny text announcement appeared between TV programs announcing that Legend of Anle would be premiering that evening. 😅
→ The Legend of Anle Weibo posted promotional posters of its main cast.
→ Gong Jun posted the same promotional poster of himself in Legend of Anle. Caption: “For the country, the people, and the long-term happiness, I will never change my promise for ten years.” This was reposted by his studio, added caption: “Protecting the common people also protects one person. Prince Han Ye @ Gong Jun Simon is online today, we sincerely invite everyone to enjoy the sight of Dajing together!” It was also reposted by 361°, Deeyeo, and Zhenguoli.
→ Gong Jun’s studio posted a promotional still of Gong Jun in Legend of Anle. Caption: “The emperor's destiny is to rule the world, and to control the crisis with one hand. ‘The Legend of Anle’ starts broadcasting today, and we go to the Dajing and the prosperous world together with Prince Han Ye @ Gong Jun Simon.” The studio also changed their header and pfp to Han Ye.
Tumblr media
→ The first episode of Legend of Anle was released!!! More episodes would be released in quick succession over the remainder of the week, links at the bottom of this post.

→ The Legend of Anle Weibo posted a character relationships chart. Caption: “Ten years of confusion, cause and effect linger; emotions are intricate, everything has a definite number. A picture shows you the relationship between the characters of Dajing, wait for more exciting content to be unlocked~”
→ Gong Jun’s studio made a new Weibo account (Gong Jun Outdoor Office) that seems to be for posting small personal promotional material for Legend of Anle. They posted a short behind the scenes clip. Caption: “Officially camping, let's start with some small materials~”
→ The Legend of Anle Weibo posted promotional stills of its main cast. Caption: “Bright and shining teeth are moving in the heart, a gentleman is full of loyalty and magnanimity, when the time comes, we will meet each other happily.”
→ Gong Jun’s studio posted a video of behind the scenes footage from a Legend of Anle photoshoot. Caption: “His eyebrows are picturesque, shining brightly. Thinking day and night, Ye is here!”
→ #GongJun and #LegendofAnle trended on Twitter and would continue to do so periodically for the rest of the week, #Legend of Anle# #Legend of Anle airing#, #Legend of Anle premiere feedback#, #Gong Jun acting#, and #The Legend of Anle and the Landscape Reflecting the World Poster# got on Weibo hotsearch.
07-13 → People’s Daily posted an article announcing new measures against abuse of generative AI being implemented by seven government agencies effective 08-15 (a rather interesting choice in date). This includes regulations against infringement of portrait rights, spreading of misinformation, and manipulation of data security.
→ The Legend of Anle Weibo posted promotional posters of the show’s couples. Caption: “One word with one heart, one glance to determine the deep love, pray for the same journey, and hope to stay together.” They also posted another poster of the main cast shortly after. Caption: “The flames of war are flying, fate is entangled, love is longing, blood is burning forever, guarding the frontier and creating a prosperous world.”
→ Gong Jun Outdoor Office posted two doodles of a glass, posted eleven minutes apart. [1] [2] Captions: “What happened to our prince's painting? The cup is a cup of juice! #Han Ye painting vs Gong Jun painting#” and “Advanced version, it's not an exaggeration to say that it’s lifelike, right? #Han Ye painting vs Gong Jun painting#” Gong Jun commented “Absurd!” on the latter post, to which the account replied “Your Highness calm down orz”
→ Dengta Data released statistics showing that Legend of Anle was the most streamed show that day.
→ The Instagram posted ten photos of “Zhang Zhehan” and traditional architecture. (Someone’s jealous.) On a related note, whalers lost their shit trying to make excuses because the scam had repeatedly said that none of Gong Jun’s upcoming dramas would ever air. 🤡
→ The Legend of Anle Weibo posted a comedy trailer for the show.
→ Gong Jun’s studio posted a promotional poster for Legend of Anle.
→ Gong Jun’s studio posted a video of behind the scenes footage from Legend of Anle. [subbed video] Caption: “Let’s advance the schedule first, and His Royal Highness @ Gong Jun Simon’s daily life is also extraordinary. See you at 18:00!”

→ Gong Jun posted a gif of shots of Han Ye. Caption: “Your face viewing balance is insufficient, please move to #Legend of Anle# to watch.” His studio reposted this with the added caption: “The small studio’s turn~ Tonight on Youku, let’s unlock more face-watching credits with Prince Han Ye @ Gong Jun Simon!”

07-14 → Gong Jun’s studio posted a promotional still of Han Ye. Caption: “The spirit and elegance are admired by the world, and the richness and talent are brought out to the fullest. ‘The Legend of Anle’ has reached 8,000 popularity on Youku! His Royal Highness @ Gong Jun Simon thanks you for your support!”
→ Gong Jun Outdoor Office posted a video of behind the scenes footage of him in Han Ye’s costume from the L’Officiel photoshoot released 05-19. BGM is Lan Ting Xu by Jay Chou.
→ Bluebird tweeted about recent activity on Xiao Yu’s Weibo account, which had posted a selfie of “Xiao Yu” the previous day and immediately blocked someone who asked if Lexus was the one running the account. Anatomical comparisons and things present in photos suggest that recent photos posted by the account are from Lexus and Hewitt, and the latter is believed to be the one primarily managing the account. It has been known since last year that the scam gang had gotten access to it via the registration phone number, but they hadn’t yet done much with it.
→ The Instagram posted another cringey dancing video. Apparently this is their new story arc.
→ The Legend of Anle Weibo posted another behind the scenes clip.

He is the ultimate careful gentleman and Gentle King! Han Ye @ Gong Jun Simon. It's a bit difficult to choose the material for this calling, so you have to have both~”
→ Gong Jun’s studio posted a picture comic about Legend of Anle’s first story arc. Caption: “Strategized and insightful, the case of imperial examination fraud finally came to light and was successfully solved! His Royal Highness @ Gong Jun Simon’s detective notes are here to restore the context of the case and see how His Highness can make good decisions!”
→ Gong Jun’s studio posted a video with original voice clips of Han Ye. Caption: “Continue continue! Unlock more of His Royal Highness @ Gong Jun Simon’s behind the scenes~” The same was also posted to their Douyin.
→ Gong Jun posted a video of himself watching Legend of Anle. Caption: “Your Highness is tired from kneeling, let me wipe your sweat off.” This was reposted by his studio with the added caption, “Even if Crown Prince @ Gong Jun Simon knelt all night, he still has the demeanor of a top Gentle King!”
07-15 → Gong Jun’s Outdoor Office posted two photos of Gong Jun watching Legend of Anle. Caption: “Sir Ye is wiping off Sir Ye’s sweat.” (Referring to Ye Qian, Gong Jun’s character in the drama he’s currently filming, and Han Ye, his Anle character.)
Tumblr media
→ The Legend of Anle Weibo posted a music video for the show’s opening theme.
→ The Legend of Anle Weibo posted another behind the scenes clip.
→ Another airport Zhang Sanjian. 🙄
→ Gong Jun’s studio posted the airing schedule for Legend of Anle. Caption: “The prince's great cause is divided into stages! Here is the calendar of upcoming episodes, remember to lock it on time, Han Ye @ Gong Jun Simon will see you every day”
→ Gong Jun’s studio posted a video of drunk Han Ye. [subbed video] Caption: “Just pour a cup, turn it over as soon as you drink it, and the prince will get drunk and lose his mind? Additional Reading: → Legend of Anle links: [YouTube (free eps only)] [YOUKU app (free and VIP)] The current schedule is 1 free episode per day and 1-2 VIP episodes. → I definitely missed some of the Anle stuff but there is just. so much. okay so. i have this story yeah? it started as a fun dystopia au fanfic that's evolved so drastically far off that it's a whole new thing
so uh
anyone wanna hear about my sci-fi dystopian story???? we two main characters who are both rebels against the shortest most threatening evil emperor that i have yet to name. one of the rebels has very little morals. the other one somehow keeps being surprised at how few morals he has. she thinks everyone can be good and none are too far gone. he thinks no one is good and she is the only exception. can't decide if i wanna ship them or just go for a close friendship,,
also thinking about the comic relief rebel just like,,, being ridiculously tall. just for fun.
i have more but i need to actually name characters other than T and Nia,,,

Before watching the show, everyone thinks WoH is about redemption and found family and all that whack shit which it probably is about not really though
what it is really about is 2 homosexuals fighting to be the trophy wife and running away from the consequences of the actions from their sad gay boy era all while accidentally adopting and raising a child.
and also there is super gay sad had-been trophy wife super powered grandpa, a twink whose sugar daddy turned out to be evil, ghost warrior lesbians, shape shifting lesbians, evil lesbians and was one(1) het autism/adhd couple

(I hope you don’t mind the tag @deepestbluesky, I was going to just reblog the original thread with an addition but then it got too long.)
I’ve just rewatched episode 28 and I think you’re right, there HAS to have been a bigger plot for JW, and now my brain is whirring. I’m just going to ramble:
JW initially looks genuinely concerned for HY as HY appears injured on the stretcher. When HY says he was ambushed and all his men were killed (which we will later learn, HY did himself), JW looks taken aback and immediately breaks eye contact to start thinking about all the potential threats to him and his men.
Tumblr media
HY overplays the loyalty card a little here, but JW still seems to not suspect HY. Until the moment he asks HY who killed all his men, and HY says “The Scorpion.”
Tumblr media
Because what HY doesn’t know - and we won’t know until later in the episode - is that JW has DPJ seeking out the Scorpion as a potential ally, to use his Drug Men, and that ZJ and Xie’er are also looking to fully secure their own ties with JW through the Scorpion.
I think DPJ is in JW’s ear about the Scorpion, and so JW has confidence that the Scorpion wouldn’t just move against him like HY is suggesting. Especially when HY then mentions that they may have a spy, and that “Leader Duan is not in the city right now.” You can see that JW has just been letting HY talk in order for him to reveal his full hand:
Tumblr media
When HY targets DPJ directly, that’s when JW springs his trump: “Peng Ju is on the way to Jiangnan to look for you.” HY immediately defers to JW’s authority, and I think he knows he’s overplayed his hand at this point.
When he is reunited with ZZS later, he will tell ZZS that he killed his own men in order to hide the information of ZZS’s whereabouts, and  framed the Scorpion. But “it’s a pity that it could only be hidden from Prince Jin for a short while.”
Tumblr media
In short, I think HY has felt the trap closing in on him for a long while - under suspicion for his loyalty to ZZS, and unsure who is his enemy within the WOH because JW has been suspeting that ZZS still has “alternate plans” against him (when actually, ZZS has nothing of the sort, and HY is a wildcard acting on his own).
There is also the mention of the letter regarding the murder of ZZS’s father (I’m not sure if it is a callback to Qi Ye because I still haven’t read it) which plays nicely into the overarching themes of loyalty and lineage and sins of the previous generation carried by their decendents, but doesn’t really have any bearing on thie main plot concerning the Armory.
Which brings us back to the plothole that is: why does HY have this piece of Glazed Armor? Why bother stealing it from JW when HY tells us he fled because he could no longer hide his loyalties? Well, in his own words, “I wanted to find something useful for you before my escape.”
Tumblr media
Which is so very Ying’er, granted, but it just... feels too convenient for getting DPJ and the WOH to ZZS’s doorstep in essentially a single step. JW even says, of either HY or the Glazed Amour HY is setting in play by carrying it out into the jianghu, “With such big bait, imagine how many big fishes it will lure for me.”
Tumblr media
And then HY just hands it straight to ZZS, the biggest fish for JW. It may still have been the ultimate plan, but the subtext of this entire episode regarding JW and HY and DPJ is so rich with potential that is woefully unexplored.

Kind of silly question, but why do you always type seiros as seiros the warrior?
Ooh!
It's not silly at all anon, even if I often type it for Fodlan nonsense but it came from those lines :
Call me Seiros now.
I am no longer the archbishop, but rather a warrior.
Rhea thinks "Rhea" isn't a name fit for a warrior, but "Seiros" is!
Now I find it interesting, because we know Rhea named herself "Seiros" back then - after the Red Canyon - too, was it for the same reasons?
Rhea chaning her name/identity wasn't only becayse she wanted to hide, but because she wanted to gain a more "fitting" name to fight?
random thoughts under the cut
Some people already noted it, but apparently Seiros is irl another way to spell Sothis, or something?
Edit : thanks to @holdharmonysacred corrected me, Sothis is the greek form of sodpeth and might also be Sirius (or have ties to Sirius ?) and Seiros could be another spelling (greek ?) of Sirius ?
"Seiros the Warrior" would thus be a way for Rhea to borrow strength from her mother's name to become a warrior and avenge her family?
Why dropping that name after the WoH then, was it only to hide or because Rhea felt fighting wasn't necessary anymore, and Fodlan didn't need a Warrior?
Or was it because Rhea thought even Seiros the Warrior couldn't fight and protect Fodlan, "Warrior or no Warrior" only Sothis and Sothis alone can guide the land to prosperity and save Fodlan and its inhabitants?
Idk, but to Rhea, "Seiros" is a special name and has a special meaning - it's the name of a warrior, someone who can grant her strength. Did Rhea kind of dissociate after Zanado, feeling she must be "Seiros" because the person who existed before died/was weak/couldn't protect/etc etc etc ?
We will never know.
Now, there's still the question about Rhea's true name, is it "Seiros" or "Rhea" or something else altogether...
I ultimately think it's Rhea - this is the name Jerry calls her by after knowing her for 300 years even as she changed her identity at least once during that time (Sylvain and Ignatz's support), and it's the name Seteth uses when he's worried (after Flayn was kidnapped), casually talks about her (Cyril support) or when he has a knee jerk reaction to whatever she's saying (in Nopes during their paralogue in the JP version, when she goes "I'll join the exploration mission" he calls her by this name while dropping all honorifics and deference - and in GW she says she'll stay to fight and die against Clout) - but again it's just HC, because even in Nopes Sothis can't be assed to call her children by their names.

Eustis finding magical artifacts on his outings (I get off topic and talk about the cats for most of this)
It is very inchresting to think about Eustis going on outings to find magical artifacts because he has an interest in that kind of stuff. It wouldn't make sense for him to go out hunting in a full suit of armor since he'd stick out like a sore thumb. He wears that armor and sets out to find [a pondering orb he can't even use himself].
Even with his new lackies, Eustis would probs still search for artifacts himself because he wants to have them first. If they're too dangerous then maybe he'd bring Greylock along since he has a lot of useful knowledge on things. In return, he'd let Greylock study the artifact if they manage to nab it.
That would be funny for them to make this long journey, be gone for 3 weeks, while Ivy and Slickwell are left ruling the kingdom in their absence. They both get a break from Eustis, but only Ivy sort of misses him in a 'prefers husband to be at home instead of collecting enchanted forks that makes user get food poisoning' way. Hates him, but the curse of they can not be far from each other for too long remains. Ivy probably asks questions about Greylock to Slickwell since he knows him and she doesn't see him a lot (ignore the last part if it's going to be a full time thing but Greylock double dealing with kings is what brain defaults to) and Slickwell is like, 'A real stinker, he tried changing my name to Lickswell one time.' and he's not wrong, but that was Greylock's way of flirting :333333
Back to Eustinky, either he's able to do a bit of magic or he just hoards artifacts so that he has all the cool stuff. Maybe he'd find some use to the artifacts because most of them can be used by non-magic users. I can only imagine how complicated it would be to have Greylock on his side, though it'd most likely be from him not wanting to serve King Magnus and/or wanting more liberty on what he does with his magic. Cedric said it well himself when he commented on how Greylock was more of a jester than a sorcerer. And although he's always been a silly lalala, I think there's a side of him that wants to be silly on his own accord instead of on the whim of a king. Well this time he HAS to make the king laugh or else he'll become the joke wink wink nudge nudge insert Greylock when Eustis gif
Still like the idea of Greylock coming and going as he pleases. It is very Greylock of him to dangle a shiny object in front of Eustis and put it on a high shelf then leave. Doesn't try to be all smart about it though he's just being goofy (Eustis isn't though he has to get it off the shelf). He's also not a slickrider like Lickswell so Eustis even considering hiring him as a royal sorcerer feels out of place. Greylock will not compliment him as much as Slicky does, will lack loyalty towards him, he is the :333333 of sorcerers. (Maybe Greylock has his own Jester's Privilege; being able to be brutally honest, except the sword is always 5 feet away from his neck at times)
Maybe he works full/part time because Slickwell is there as well. His test dummy. The pin was fun to watch and now they'll get to test more items, what fun. Oh and they can kiss but Greylock shocks Slickwell at least once mid kiss.
Extra note: Ivy jewelry I hope that the jewelry holds value like being family heirlooms and/or magical artifacts or they are just normal jewelry that she wears. Black pearls are definitely a symbol of wealth though. Stylish too she's so cool I love Ivy sm /p /g
