It struck me that Doug Ramsey really does bring out the protective instincts in all his "special friends" when there's even the slightest apparent risk to him. It's a good thing he's so... portable.
Warlock does it a LOT, of course, protecting his squishy and easily breakable selfsoulfriend since the 1980's.
Be it in Asgard (X-Men Annual #9)
Or facing Spiral and Mojo's Brat Pack (New Mutants Annual #2)
Then, years later, Doug's wife Bei the Blood Moon got in on the act (Excalibur Vol4 #15)
And now Krakoa gets in on the act (Immortal X-Men #13)
and when asked, Krakoa will only say they did it "To protect him"
So large ailens basically going "Yoink!" and tucking Doug Ramsey under their arm to carry him to safety like a recalcitrant puppy seems to be a natural reflex in the MU.
And honestly, who can blame them for that?
