"All right." Charles works the knot at his throat for a moment. "You almost picked the other, though, didn't you?"

"Been snooping around my head again, Charles?"

"No! That is, I—" Charles falters, suddenly uncertain whether it's worse to falsely admit to reading the other man's mind, or that it's only been simple – if close – observation that made him pick up on Erik's love of the color purple.
