Segunda Lennox
Tumblr media

Release: June 17, 1997
Lyrics:
Yeah, it's a hit
Now I've seen places and faces
And things you ain't never thought about thinking
If you ain't peek then you must be drinking
And smokin'
Pretending that you're low-keybut you're broke and
Let me get you open
Now little Timmy got his diploma and
Little Jimmy got life
And Tamika around the corner just took her first hit off the pipe
The other homie shot the other homie and ran off with his money
And when the homies heard about it
They thought that it was funny
But who's the dummy?
'Cause, now you done lost the hustler
A down-ass brother can never by replaced by a buster
And though I got love for ya
I know I can't trust ya
'Cause my crew is rollin' Hummers and your crew is rollin' dustas
And just because of that you act like you don't like the brother no more
I guess that's just the way it goes
I ain't tryna preach, I believe I can reach
But your mind ain't prepared
I'll see you when you get there
I'll see you when you get there
If you ever get there
See you when you get there
I'll see you when you get there (yo, what up, huh?)
(You know Ghost had to jump)
(On the unplugged version with you) if you ever get there
(Rest in peace, Michael Jackson) see you when you get there
Hmm, check it
Stressed by this game of life, I can't lie
Sometimes I sit at home and contemplate suicide
But Lord knows, this nigga don't wanna die
I find myself with clenched fists lookin' towards the sky
Question God, "Why?" With a tear from my eye
"Does anybody really care if I'll ever die?"
Do I have friends or all of y'all fake?
When I'm rollin', are they done or is it my money to take?
I wanna leave it all just to 'scape from this cold world
But I'm not quite ready to fall
Time's moving too fast and it seems like it's too late
No friends at my funeral, no friends at my wake
They hatin' on my niggas 'cause we hussle for our papers
You gotta live your life and do it for your every day
They try to hate my race for the colour of our skin
While I hussle, sell dope, and take care of my kid
I'll see you when you get there
If you ever get there
See you when you get there
I'll see you when you get there
If you ever get there
See you when you get there
Okay now, here's the situation
I raised in a racist nation and then given an inferior education
A respresentation as in a tow-up area of the inner city
Where life is iffy, and average self-esteem is itty-bitty
But we're lookin' for no pity, you can miss me
Go ahead and talk, but if you diss me they gon' have to come and get me
They wanna bend me for my city, acting like they down
But they against me, they tempt me to touch either shoe 'til it's empty
They take my child into penitentiary, they'll touchdown for a century
They're grillin' me, you feelin' me?
That's why I'm waitin' in the bushes
Now for those that are responsible, the villa wouldn't all push it
Put yourself in my position, would you go on or would you listen?
Under these conditions, get bold 'til somebody's comin' up messin'?
When the lights come on, we run words or mice, so be prepared
I hope you ain't scared
Songwriter:
I'll see you when you get there
If you ever get there
See you when you get there
I'll see you when you get there
If you ever get there
See you when you get there

Favorite Tropes Book Recs: the dark, dark forest
One of my favorite book trope/ theme is a dark (sometimes) magical forest. Here’s a list of some books that feature a dark forest, as well as what is on my tbr. I will keep this list updated as I read. Feel free to comment and give me recommendations!
Find other book recs here!
-The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly: The forest is full of things that will eat you. It’s a dark Narnia type forest, and danger lurks around every tree. I have no idea what the age range on this book is.
-The Near Witch by Victoria Schwab: I read this a while ago, but from what I remember there are haunted moors and forests. Bonus. And an eerie wind. It’s not schwabs best writing, but it is an enjoyable story.  ya fantasy.
-The Winternight Trilogy by Katherine Arden: The OG. The inspiration for this post. You can’t get more dark or magical than a historical fantasy set in medieval Russia. Features folk and a winter king. adult fantasy.
-Wintersong by S. Jae-Jones:  A forest set in 18th century Germany, beware of the underground and the goblin king. I desperately need to reread this one, because I don’t remember enough about it, but it made high school me emo. ya fantasy.
-The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey: A retelling of the Russian fairy tale, but set in early 20th century Alaska. The forest isn’t necessarily magical, but the snow child certainly is. adult fiction/magical realism.
-Uprooted by Naomi Novik: Also the OG. The darkest most magical of forests. (another I need to reread) Spinning Silver also somewhat counts too, but Uprooted fits the most.  adult fantasy.
-The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman: I don’t know how much there really is a ‘forest’ in this book, other than strange, alternate spaces, monsters from Somewhere Else, and creepy childhood memories that you only remember sometimes. It fits the vibe of this post though, so that’s why I’m including it. adult fantasy.
-The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater: Hype about this series has died down a bit on this platform, but you’ve got two things: a dead welsh king and a magical forest. What more could you want? ya fantasy.
-I Am Still Alive by Kate Alice Marshall: Not magical at all, but it is a survival story about a teenage girl trying to survive in the Canadian wilderness + get revenge on the people who killed her dad. young adult.
-The Wood by Chelsea Bobulksi: A magical forest in a girl’s backyard where time travelers slip through portals. Don’t stray from the path though, or you won’t come back. ya fantasy.
-Heart’s Blood by Juliet Marillier: Ghosts, the Wild Hunt, a strange secluded castle, a batb retelling... what’s not to like? adult fantasy.
-The Light Between Worlds by Laura E Weymouth: A Narnia type book that asks the question what happens to the children once they come back? Not dark at all, but a little sad and nostalgic. ya fantasy.
-The Wolf and the Woodsman by Ava Reid: Pagan magic in the forest, blood magic, folk and fairy tale inspired, definitely dark. adult fantasy.
-For the Wolf by Hannah Whitten: This book wasn’t my cup of tea, but that doesn’t mean others don’t like it. A girl gets sacrificed to the wolf in the forest. The forest is very magical and very dark. Also has blood magic and body horror tw. adult fantasy.
TBR: (this is a little hard, since having a dark, magical forest is something you don’t necessarily know from a book’s description, so I’m just including what I think might fit into the category)
-The wolf wilder by Katherine Rundell: Trying to retrain wolves to go back into the wild. that’s about all I know. Middle grade.
- Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier: I assuming there is something about forests, since it’s in the title and by Juliet Marillier.
-Forestborn by Elayne Audrey Becker: A shapeshifting girl must a uncover a strange disease before it is too late. tensions between magic users and non-magic users. ya fantasy.
-Mythago Wood by Robert Holdstock:  a forest that has it’s own rules of time, and those who find themselves called to it. adult fantasy.
-Silver in the Wood by Emily Tesh: lgbt, green magic, romance, a man who lives in a cottage in the woods. adult fantasy
-A Green and Ancient Light by Frederic S Durbin: somewhat narnia type story, ww2, fables and fairy tales.

21. redemption of beau ivers
HERE YA GO BESTIE!
Beau Ivers was sure of three things.
One: he really, really hated delivering groceries even if he had come to understand why the people of Outer Banks loved and respected Heyward.
Two: he really, really hated not talking to his Uncle Ivey. The tension at home was awkward and suffocating, even his cousins barely said three words to him. They didn’t even want him at their tea parties now, and Aunt Paige always looked at him like she pitied him.
Three: he really, really liked kissing Wheezie Cameron.
