I swear, so many of their earlier interactions is Lan Wangji’s brain literally short circuiting that someone is actually trying to befriend him. Because he teases and pokes but it’s so clear, that WWX does it all out of affection and curiosity and warmth and inability to stop wanting to make a friend.
I got to say that I am impressed with Zewu-Jun who sees this:
And translates it to:
Like, how on earth could he read that? I never could have.
PS Oh honey, some day he’s gonna break ALL the rules for you!
PPS And I remember how he treats one of WWX’s paper people later...
One of the things I love about WWX and what makes him a rarity is that he doesn’t hold grudges (grudges are different from justified vengeance he wreaks on someone like Wen Chao.) He finds out he was wrong and the first thing he does is unreservedly admit it. Also, LWJ is seriously panicking - look at him clutching at his sword. He is calm as a default but he is completely short-circuited. On this rewatch I really do think he’s attracted and drawn in from the start and has no idea what it is and what he is feeling and what is going on and has NO idea how to interact with someone like WWX even without that attraction, and oh poor Hot Elf!
Gee, I wonder why someone might feel that? Is it the evil Eurovision lighting and decor? The Bond Villain throne? The lava pits of corpses? Honestly, people are so judgmental these days!
I hate Xue Yang the most of anyone in the drama (here is someone who took the 0.5 storyline of 2ha as a how-to manual) but I love this sentence!
I love that what worries Zewu-Jun is precisely that LWJ gives him nothing to worry about.
Awwww, such a good brother.
I love how he notices LWJ’s panic.
You know, this is damn sad in retrospect because LWJ is really good and for WWX to have been his equal and then lose his ability to use his sword forever. MXTX’s worlds are a lot sunnier than Meatbun’s but the concept of some things are lost forever is there and it makes me sad.
He knows his brother likes WWX (though I don’t think he knows at this point in which way; not that he’d care either way, whatever makes his baby bro happy.)
I love the drooling peeps. I mean, Hot Elf is ridiculously gorgeous. (Once again, BL glow-up is in effect. Wang Yibo is a ridiculously beautiful man but he’s never looked more perfect.)
First time I watched this, I thought he was a haughty dick but just like Mr. Darcy, LWJ is just the most awkward human being alive - you see him visibly uncomfortable. I do wonder if part of the reason he is so rule-bound is because it provides an essential framework within which he can operate and know that X means response Y and so on. (Compare it to WWX, who is even at his traumatized, is a quintessential people person. Introvert v extrovert.)
Oh, really. You are gonna find out just HOW rigid. /exits with her middle school self.
This is such a throwaway moment but really not - (1) WWX will never follow rules if he thinks they are silly just because it’s the norm and (2) he is hella powerful since I doubt Gusu Lan put a spell that anyone can break since then what’s the point.
The flashback dynamic in a nutshell.
This is my favorite dynamic!
Do put Lan Wangji’s giant sword in the sheath, WWX.
I love the rooftop fight with the chemistry and how beautiful it is and of course the boys and AHEM their swords.
You know, there is a decent if small number of very good dramas. But there is only a much smaller subset of them that are just as good on rewatch and The Untamed is one of that tiny tiny number. The more I watch it, the more I think about how amazingly well done miracle of a drama it is.
