IV.
“Oh, shit. What’s up?” He smiled back and it was even more killer in person. Especially with the surprise of gleaming gold fangs and the matching slugs I could see peeking from behind his bottom lip. I had to remind myself to breathe. “You came.”
“I told you I was on the way.”
“Nah, I thought you was fucking with me.” Laughter took over the conversation as he opened the door a bit wider, stepping aside. “Come on in.”
Hell, I could barely believe I’d shown up myself. I had never really been shy, but he’d brought a boldness out of me that even I hadn’t seen.
When I passed him, I noticed that he was still significantly taller than me in four inch heels. Damn. Not like I wasn't overdue for a climbing lesson anyway. The scent of his cologne was also quite alluring. The woody, smoky fragrance pervaded my senses, warming all the spots that shot had missed. Of course he would smell just as good as he looked. He may not have believed I would be there tonight, but he had damn sure been prepared.
“I can take your jacket.”
“Oh, sure.” I went to slip it from my shoulders, but he circled behind me and took the collar into his hands.
“Here, I got you.”
Taken aback by his unexpected chivalry, I was stuck watching him walk back to the closet to carefully put it away.
“This is dope. The gold on here go crazy.”
“Right? I thought the same thing. Had to have it.”
“Good choice.” He grinned as he strolled back over to me. “I like your whole get-up, though. You look good, girl.” The intensity he radiated in person was unreal. His blinding smile. Those piercing brown eyes. The once-over he gave me felt like he was sexing me up already.
Of course, I was a flustered mess. “Thank you.”
“What’s in the bag?”
I held up my bottle for him to see. “Wine. Actually, could I put it in your fridge?”
“Yeah.” He reached for it, so I gave it to him. Then he nodded to the left. “This way.”
We left the foyer and I followed him past a gorgeous living area, subtly admiring my surroundings. The height of the ceilings had caught my attention right away. All of it was stunning. Far from the bare walls, futon, and flat screens I had half expected. Off white walls and dark wood floors made up the most of it, but the decor was so sophisticated and refined. I’d already clocked a painting and coffee table that I wanted for myself. I could tell it had been carefully curated. I should've known he would give nothing less. We walked through an arched doorway into a kitchen that made me feel like cooking for some strange reason. Just like everything else I’d seen, it looked like something from a magazine. Shades of gray, black, white and green complemented each other well among all the satiny stainless steel. There were even fresh tulips sitting in the middle of the island. I was giving one of them a smell when he came over, leaning up against the marble counter with me.
“I put it in the freezer for you.”
“Thank you.”
“No problem.” Having to look up was already doing something different for me, but the way he was smiling down at me made it so much worse. Prolonged eye contact was his thing, I’d already gathered. It felt like he was staring into my soul. Whew! “I’m glad you came.”
“Yeah?”
“Mhm. Not every day something this fine just lands on your doorstep.”
My head dropped into a faint laugh. “Baby, you ain't gotta butter me up. I’m already here.”
“I ain't tryna do nothing of the sort. I meant what I said.”
“Ok. So, you just be up in here by yourself?”
“Most of the time, yeah.”
I smacked my lips, less than convinced. “Yeah, aight.”
“You a trip,” he chuckled.
“Nah, you the one.”
“How?”
“Nothing. Don’t worry ‘bout it,” I said, grinning as I waved him off.
“I got no reason to lie, mama. Like you said, you already here.” He wet his bottom lip before moving his eyes down my body once more. I shuddered. “I really don’t be having company like that, though. I know it might not seem like it, but I’m usually a pretty private person. I don’t like too many people in my business.”
“So, why you breaking all your rules for me then?”
“I don’t know…” He leaned a little closer. “Just something about you.”
I rolled my eyes through the inevitable smile that followed his and that sly admission. “You know what, I know I just gave it to you to put away, but could I pour myself a glass?”
“Oh, yeah. Fasho.” He walked back over to the freezer and pulled out my bottle. Then he went to a cabinet for a wine glass before taking an electric corkscrew from a drawer. Once the bottle was open, he stepped back, presenting it all to me with an outstretched hand.
“Thank you.”
“No problem.”
I poured myself a big glass, just low enough to prevent any spills while I walked.
“You only brought one glass. You don't want any?”
“Nah. I’m more of a Hennessy man, myself.”
“Aah, ok.”
“I can put it back for you, though.”
“I think I’ma just keep it.”
“You sure?”
“Yeah, this is good enough.”
“Aight.” He reclaimed his position at the island. “So, um, I feel like you breaking some of your rules for me, too.”
“…Maybe,” I said, after finishing a big sip.
“How you get so brave?”
I frowned. “Why you saying that like you about to chop me up and plaster me into your walls?”
“Damn, girl.” I cracked at the sudden shock that appeared on his face and we laughed so hard. “I’m just saying. You know women ain’t safe out here. Especially Black women.”
“Yeah, my girl wanted me to stay home real bad. But I don't know. Sometimes you just gotta take a chance. Plus, you didn't give me serial killer vibes. Didn’t see a windowless van on the premises either, sooo…”
His smile was beaming as we shared another laugh. “You funny.”
I shrugged a shoulder, preparing for my next sip. “So I’ve been told.”
He waited for me to finish before he motioned his head toward where we had just come from. “Come on.” Then he turned to walk off, and, once again, I followed.
“And, anyway, for all you know, I could be crazy.”
Without hesitation, he replied, “Oh, I can take you.”
I gasped in false disbelief. “Excuse you. I could have weapons of mass destruction.”
“What? Like a chainsaw?”
He glanced back at me as we neared the stairs and I busted out laughing. “Now that wasn't even me. My girl put that one in my head.”
“What she think, I’m Leatherface?”
“Shit, you never know nowadays.”
“You ‘bout right. But you can let her know you in good hands.”
“I figured as much.”
He smiled, stopping at the stairs. “After you,” he said, holding his arm out for me to step ahead of him.
After giving him my bottle, I grabbed the glass railing with my freed hand. I made my way up the curved staircase, swaying my little bit of booty in case he was watching, and losing count of how many steps I was taking.
“You better catch me if I fall.”
“I got you.” I laughed to myself as we finally reached the top. I waited for him to take the lead again and he came around me, settling his hand on my waist. “This way, mama.”
A floral, citrusy scent met me as soon as I stepped into his bedroom. Probably from the candles lit in various spots all around it. They also provided the light, along with two lamps on the wall framing the head of his bed. “It smells so good in here.”
“I tried to hook it up for you a lil bit.”
“I like it.” The click of my heels on his gray hardwood floors was briefly muted as I strutted onto an oversized circular rug en route to his bed. The couch was nice and spacious, but the bed was much more inviting. The comforter looked cloudlike and the corner of the sheet that was exposed looked fresh. It was huge, too. Likely out of necessity. I sat on the edge and stared over at the window wall across from me as I took a feel. It was just as comfortable as I’d presumed, maybe even more. “Why you way over there? You got—what you called me?—‘something this fine’ all in your bed, and you just gon’ stand there?”
He smiled. “Yeah. That’s what I said.”
“Come here then.”
“You on my side, though,” he teased, swaggering toward me in his crisp white tee and gray joggers.
I kicked my shoes off before sliding myself to the opposite side. “Better?”
“Much.” He came over and sat against the fluted headboard as I sat just a couple feet away from him. At that point, I took my phone from my purse and killed the power. I was not about to let anybody spoil my night. “What kind of music you like?”
“I’m an R&B junkie.”
“Ok.” He picked up his phone, plugged up on the table beside him. “Let me guess. 90’s and early 2000’s, right?”
“Duh! I love my oldies, too, though.”
“Word?”
“Yes. I spent the first fourteen years of my life almost exclusively with my grandparents. They blessed me.”
“Ok. What you know about this then?” After a couple taps, ‘Spend The Night’ by The Isley Brothers began to play.
“Boy, what? This my shit.”
“…You grooving your ass off, this really your shit.”
I howled, because I hadn’t even realized. Maybe it was the near-emptiness of my glass that had my shoulders and waist moving without my knowledge.
“Anyway. So, what’s your favorite genre?”
“My music taste kinda eclectic. I like a lil bit of everything.”
“Like what?”
“Funk. Bounce. Jazz.”
“Okayyy.”
“R&B,” he continued, making sure to look me in the eye for that one. “House.”
“Ooh, I love House.”
“Yeah. But that’s just a few.”
I nodded. “Ok, next question.”
“What’s up?”
“Why you sit my bottle so far awaaaay?” I whined, staring longingly toward his dresser as I went to leave the bed. He laughed.
“My bad. I’ll get it for you.”
“I’m just messing with you. I got it.” I walked over to fill my glass again, bobbing my head to my jam.
“You mind if I smoke?”
“This your place, baby. You can do whatever you want.”
“Yeah, but you my guest. And, if I’m a bad host, you might not wanna come back.”
I squinted up at him, twisting my lips to try and hide my smile, but it didn't work. The charm was just too potent. “It’s cool. Spark up.”
“Aight.”
He leaned over and reached into his top drawer for this little box. I couldn't see inside it, but he pulled out a pre-rolled joint and I just assumed that there were more. This nigga was a stoner in the truest sense.
The level of my glass was starting to fall again and the wine had to be going straight to my feet. Instead of returning to my seat, I opted for a cute little two-step and a couple of slow spins, quietly singing along with Mr. Biggs and Angela Winbush between sips. The song sounded better than it ever had.
“I’m glad I chose this cut.”
I opened my eyes to see that Yahya had changed his position, lying back on his elbows at the edge of the bed and facing me. It took all I had to keep it together. My face was on fire. “Why?”
He smacked his lips at me and took a long drag from the J. I giggled as he aimed his face toward the ceiling to release the smoke, promptly sucking it back into his mouth before it could get away. “I think you know why.” He brought his eyes back down to mine, smiling while smoke rolled from his lips and nose.
I returned his smile. Of course I knew. “What that shit taste like?”
“You never smoked before?” he asked with a wrinkled brow.
“Nope. I told you I didn't smoke, remember?”
“Yeah, I know. But you never?”
I shook my head. “Not even once.”
“You wanna try it?”
I bit the inside of my lip, not really sure if I should. The scent of weed was something I usually just tolerated, but this didn’t smell too bad. Either that or my fascination with this man had me highly delusional. Probably. “Mmmm…” Fuck it. Might as well since I was taking a walk on the wild side for the night. Plus, I’d always wanted to try it at least once. Just to see what all the fuss was about. “Yeah.” I shrugged it off and left my glass on a nearby table, but then it hit me that I had been drinking. “Wait. Should I be doing this with alcohol?”
“It ain’t gon’ do nothing to you.”
“But am I really supposed to mix the two?”
He just sat up and reached for me, signaling me over with his fingers. “C’mere.”
I sighed, quelling most of my concerns and taking his hand. He didn’t let me make a single step, pulling me right into his hard chest. He hurried his arm around my waist as my screaming morphed into shared laughs. “Oh my god, don’t do that!” I looked down into his eyes, resting my arms on his shoulders to help get my bearings. The laughter soon faded. Smiles went next.
“Mmmm,” he groaned, biting his lip with those gold fangs on full display.
That same breathless feeling that had hit me at my computer, smacked the shit out of me again. Just a hundred times stronger. Seeing his brand of fine this close up was devastating. Everything that looked so damn good from afar held all of its integrity and then some. The beard, the lips, the skin, the teeth. Truly immaculate.
“Youuu… are dangerous.” I capped the sentiment with a giggle, but I was not joking.
He frowned with a telling grin in the forefront. “What? I’m harmless.” The elevation in his tone further confirmed the lies.
I pushed myself back up to my feet, flustered as fuck and almost hating how he could make me this way so effortlessly. I really had no idea I was so foldable and, though the circumstances were lovely, I didn’t know how to feel about it.
“Fuck that.”
He laughed and held the joint up to my lips. “Go slow.”
I looked at it and then back to him, still slightly unsure, but I went ahead. The regret was instant. I choked, coughing up what little smoke I had brought in. And, to make matters worse, he had the nerve to be laughing while I was fighting for my life.
“Naaah, not like that.”
I shook my hanging head. “That’s ok. I don't want to anymore,” I said, fanning myself and trying to catch my breath.
“Come on. I got you.”
I smacked my lips, looking into his half-lidded eyes with my own, and caved without an ounce of pause. Shameful. “...Ok. But, if I don't get it this time, I’m done. And don't laugh.”
“Aight, aight. I won’t laugh.”
“You better not,” I teased, rolling my eyes.
He brought that shit up to my lips again, but, this time, he rested his free hand on my hip. I didn't pay it much mind. I was more focused on preparing myself for this second pull that was probably about to kill me.
“Go slow.”
I followed his instructions and took a relaxed drag. But I forgot to stop, and this nigga just let me keep going. My eyes popped when I realized what I had done. I stood there, cheeks puffed to the brim, not knowing what the hell to do. Again, Yahya was cracking up. I, on the other hand, started to freak out, groaning frantically and tapping at his arm.
“Just open your mouth, girl.”
I opened up and the smoke billowed out and began to float away.
“Now catch it. Inhale.”
I did what I was told once again and watched as some of it disappeared back into my mouth.
“Ok, hold it… now breathe.”
I let go and, surprisingly, all of it came out without me bringing a lung up with it. “I did it!” I beamed, celebrating my first successful puff of Mary.
“Started off a lil rocky, but you finished strong.” I laughed with him, feeling too triumphant to check him for rejoicing in my struggles. “You wanna hit it again?” he asked, after taking another puff.
I nodded. I felt like I had it down, but I just wanted to make sure it wasn’t a fluke. If I could do it two times in a row, that meant I could really do it. Feeling myself, I even took it from his hand when he brought it over to me.
“Oh, shit. Ok. You a pro now, huh?”
I was too tickled, but in the merriment I still noticed that he had led his newly unoccupied hand down to my other hip. He kneaded his fingers into me, getting a nice, thorough feel. Naturally, my mind began to wander, imagining all the filthy, disgusting things he could do to me with those huge hands. I looked down at him and he was already staring back. His face was the most relaxed it had been all night. He took his gaze down to where my thighs met and I would swear I heard my girl sigh. This man was so fucking sexy it was almost infuriating. I had to look away. I took another successful pull, reveling in all of this delectable sin, and he carefully slid his hands around to my ass. The pungent smell of weed had possessed the air, the taste of the flower and a little wine were sweet on my tongue, and the sensual poetry of love songs gave us all the right directions. I couldn’t remember the last time I had been this bad.
“How you feelin’?”
I opened my eyes, tilted my head and brought my hand up to mimic a chef’s kiss.
“See? Stick with me, I can show you some thangs.” I tucked what was left of the J between his lips and he hit it one last time before sitting it over in the ashtray. Then he pulled me closer.
I smiled and bit my lip, gently placing my hands to his chest. When I started to back away, he smiled up at me and loosened his grip, but I could tell he didn't really want to let me go.
“Where you goin’?”
I simply shook my head as I left his grasp. I just wanted to play around with him, make him chase me a little bit. The O’Jays were singing ‘Forever Mine’ and, somehow, I could feel it in my body. Whatever Yahya had for me, I was readyyy! I turned away and clutched the bottom of my shirt with both hands, pulling it up over my head and dropping it to the floor. Not a second later, I could see his reflection in the window standing from the bed. Off came his shirt in one swift motion as he walked, then I felt him slide up behind me. The chase was over.
With his hands at my sides, I swayed to the hypnotizing melodies, savoring how good his bare skin felt next to mine. “I love this song.” I spoke quietly, fully entranced. My hands found their way to his, and the difference in size fucked me up even more. I was leading them around to where I needed them, when he latched onto the softness of my belly and started to move toward the window. I shuffled the short distance with him until I was standing directly in front of it. He eased his hold on me and grabbed my hand, placing it onto the glass a little above my head. I looked out over his backyard, wondering if any of his neighbors could see us. Part of me hoped someone could as he played around with the waist of my jeans, touching my skin in light whispers. He crept over to the button, undoing it, what felt to be, intentionally slow. My zipper came down at the same chilling pace. With parted lips, I looked toward his hand as I felt it slide into my pants. He started to rub my pussy over my panties and they soaked through on contact, trapping my next breath in my throat.
“Say. How you like it, mama?” He easily caught the rhythm of my subtle grind. “You like slow and steady?”
I scratched the glass with his hand still on top of mine, feeling his dick right against my ass. Flames flickered in the near-darkness, but, clearly, we were the hottest in the room. He moved my panties to the side and slipped through the flood until my clit was pounding into the tips of his fingers. A shy moan had barely made it past my lips when he sank them deep. I whimpered loudly, gripping his arm and bending my other hand into a fist, buckling under the pressure.
“Or you like that hood shit?” He brought his hand down from the window and fixed his arm across my chest, guiding me back into him while he clung to my breast. “Hm?”
I didn't answer. I wasn’t even breathing. Despite me being highly inebriated, my heart was about to beat out of my chest.
“Why you bein’ so quiet?” he finally asked, lips brushing sweetly against my ear. Then he laid a soft kiss just underneath it. “You said you came to fuck. Don’t get all shy on me now.”

I feel like in the last few years I'm seeing more and more actors talk about wanting to do rom-coms, some of them pretty big names. Which you would think would mean an uptick in rom-coms getting made, even for streaming services, and yet that isn't really happening. Is that due to the mid range movie disappearing or there just aren't any good scripts around?
Good scripts are always around in basically every genre and subgenre; a lack of good scripts is never the problem. There's a whole list--several, I imagine, but one famous one I can think of--that's a compilation of the undeveloped scripts in Hollywood that have been deemed the best. I mean, "good" is subjective but point is, there are many scripts that many people have agreed are good, which haven't been picked up.
The mid range movie not existing is one of the biggest problems. A continuing refusal to be confident in the buying power of the female audience is another, even though women obviously aren't the only people who watch romcoms (see: traditional publishers and how they treat romance novels). And the reality is? A lot of these actors who saaaaay they wanna be in romcoms sooooo baaaaad are not taking romcom paychecks over MCU paychecks.
Then there is of course the added element of racism for the actors who want to be in romcoms and aren't white. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is one I'm thinking of.

MALEE APINYA (our DAVIKA HOORNE) is looking for their STAFF AT RUNE INK (0/6). They are 27+ YEAR OLDS, UTPs, who look like UTPs (FCOC and/or DIVERSE ONLY). You DO NOT* need to approach the player.
The studio has been open for the past 5 years. More information about the place can be found HERE. Note that all species are accepted, but not disclosed to other staff and clients, except for Malee since she is the owner. The dynamics can be further discussed, but the type of energy we're bringing are like the following shows: Parks and Rec, B99, Superstore, etc.
*If there are other positions that are not listed in the post provided, then please reach out to me @ maleeapinya.
-
BENNY ABBAS (our YAHYA ABDUL-MATEEN II) is looking for their SIBLING(S). They’re a 25+ HUMAN, who look like (ANY BLACK FC). You DO NOT need to approach the player.
Benny and his siblings have a close relationship, living in town their whole lives. he devotes almost all his time to his family so i imagine he is a little overbearing and a little annoying if the siblings are younger but he means well and always shows up for them.
**Right now I have plotted that he has an older sibling who has a young daughter in university so I would like to make them a NPC and continue that!

Year-end roundup of theater I saw in 2023:
I saw a lot this year (29 unique shows with a couple of repeats). Part of the reason is probably that I spent money on tickets more freely because I was working a lot more than usual.
Notes or links to separate posts below:
Mean Girls (tour; Pantages) – The strengths are in the original movie material and added character development, while the music is just enough to support the story. Fun, though not sure I'd call it good.
Topdog/Underdog (Broadway) – Fantastic performances from both Corey Hawkins and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Not particularly interested in con artist/gambler storylines but it fit the themes.
A Strange Loop (Broadway) – Amazing, totally get why it won Best Musical. Viewing experience was enhanced by a responsive audience. I'm excited to see it in LA and crossing my fingers that it gets a decent reception.
Kimberly Akimbo (Broadway) – Hadn't read much about it and was unprepared for how funny it was and how strong the cast was across the board. Favorite little absurdity was how the show choir kids are slowly drawn into Debra's scheme. The cast recording captures a decent part of the humor and was my most-played album in 2023.
Merrily We Roll Along (Off-Broadway) – Not sure I can imagine a better casting for Franklin Shepard than Jonathan Groff.
Wicked (Broadway) – Hadn't seen it in over a decade and felt like revisiting. It was fine; Elphaba and Fiyero seemed to have good chemistry.
Leopoldstadt (Broadway) – If I had the time and money I would just follow Caissie Levy and Brandon Uranowitz around to see whatever they are in. In a 2+ hour show with no intermission I never got bored.
Frozen (tour; Segerstrom) – Had previously seen this pre-pandemic so most of the cast had changed, though Caroline Bowman was still Elsa and was good. A number of the new cast seemed very young.
The Secret Garden (Ahmanson)
Kristina Wong, Sweatshop Overlord (Kirk Douglas)
The Lonely Few (2x) (Geffen Playhouse)
Sunday in the Park with George (Pasadena Playhouse) – First time I’ve ever seen this show (or listened to the music with any level of attention), and while I enjoyed it for the most part—particularly Act 1—I really struggled to care about modern George’s professional and personal difficulties in creating his art. I did like the music and can’t say I was ever bored, but in the end I was (to my surprise) thoroughly unmoved. One notable thing was that the sound in the theater was great. Everything was remarkably clear and I could understand all of the rapid-fire lyrics very well considering I was not very familiar with the music.
Twilight: Los Angeles 1992 (Mark Taper Forum) – Staged with multiple actors; unfortunately I don't remember much about it as I did not take any notes.
1776 (2x)
Kiss of the Spider Woman (A Noise Within) – The play, not the musical. Enjoyed it, thought Molina in particular was well performed.
Six (tour, Pantages) – Had listened to the studio cast recording and enjoyed it but the songs do tend to work better with the little bit of context provided by the show.
A Little Night Music (Pasadena Playhouse) – Another first-time Sondheim show for me; I liked the music (more so than Sunday in the Park With George), acting was strong, but I had difficulty caring much about the interpersonal drama.
A Soldier's Play (tour, Ahmanson) – Didn't take notes afterward; mostly I remember that Norm Lewis's speaking voice is startlingly resonant.
Tina (tour, Pantages) – Saw this only a few weeks after her death; the Playbill cover had been redesigned to acknowledge it and I think the cast and audience were still feeling that impact. It was pretty good for a straight-ahead biographical jukebox musical.
A Transparent Musical
Into the Woods
Beetlejuice
Les Misérables (tour, Pantages) – Heard the latest tour cast was really good, and it was; it hit the emotional beats well. Particularly liked Fantine (here's a local morning-show performance of "I Dreamed a Dream"), Javert, and Valjean, actually liked Gavroche for a change, and this production got rid of a character direction I absolutely hated (Grantaire's melodramatic wail after the "Little People" reprise).
Heroes of the Fourth Turning
Peter Pan Goes Wrong (Ahmanson) – Entertaining and funny though didn't quite hit my sense of humor dead on.
Here Lies Love (Broadway) – Was really glad to have the opportunity to see this because I missed the original production 10 years ago and regretted it. Sat in the front mezzanine which seemed just fine and provided an overall good view of the action in almost every direction. Particularly liked Conrad Ricamora (very charismatic) as Ninoy Aquino and Jose Llana as Marcos. Staging, audience participation, projections, etc. were essential to communicating the message of the show. I like the music and have the original cast recording but it would be very easy to misunderstand the tone from only listening to the recording.
The Sound Inside (Pasadena Playhouse) – Saw this in the middle of being swamped at work so my memory of this is a bit sparse. I remember being uncertain of how to react at the end of the show (same for the audience I was in) but thinking about it afterward the ideas and themes came together more clearly.
A Christmas Story (Ahmanson) – A pleasant and family-friendly show; lots of kids in the cast. Have never seen the movie. There were some high points (e.g. the big tap number featuring Miss Shields and a bunch of children singing "You'll Shoot Your Eye Out" as Prohibition-era gangsters and flappers) but I was bored for a good portion of the show. The portrayal of motherhood is very traditional.
MJ the Musical (tour; Pantages) – Was wondering how Lynn Nottage would handle the book. At first the "in rehearsal for the Dangerous tour" setup seemed like an interesting framing, but ultimately I don't think it went anywhere interesting dramatically or emotionally, or communicated much that wasn't already known even to non-Michael Jackson fans. The part from the Tony Awards performance is the high point of the show IMO.

In a sneak peek ahead of "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom," Director James Wan unveiled the film's captivating secrets and its fearless embrace of the wonderfully weird. Aquaman made a splash in the DC Extended Universe, and now, he's back for an even more epic adventure.
A Deep Dive into Atlantis: This time, Arthur Curry is more than just a superhero; he's a devoted family man gracefully navigating royal duties. His underwater palace is a fusion of advanced Atlantean tech and deep-sea mystique. Imagine bioluminescent gardens under colossal crystalline domes, where holographic displays mingle with intricate coral motifs.
The Enigmatic Black Trident: Beneath the ocean's depths lies an ancient adversary wielding the "Black Trident," an artifact of unimaginable power. Forged from a forgotten underwater volcano, its sinister glow resonates ominously. It becomes the center of a high-stakes quest that tests Aquaman's mettle.
Atlantis Unveiled: Picture Atlantis, an underwater utopia with towering spires, bioluminescent brilliance, and sleek, high-tech wonders. Its culture unfolds like a mesmerizing tapestry, from the citizens' attire to the otherworldly language and exquisite cuisine.
Behind-the-Scenes Revelations: Wan delved into storytelling, Black Manta's evolution, and the iconic suit's crafting. The suit's shimmering scales provide both protection and agility, making Aquaman a formidable force.
An Autonomous Cinematic Utopia: Wan emphasized the film's autonomy from the DC Universe, focusing on Arthur and Orm's relationship. Their dynamic adds an exhilarating twist to the narrative.
Mera's Role: While Mera is a luminary in the comics, the film focuses on Arthur and Orm's journey, steeped in self-discovery, destiny, and surprising alliances.
The Rise of Black Manta: Black Manta, portrayed by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, emerges as a magnetic and malevolent force, empowered by the Black Trident. His transformation promises to leave a lasting impact.
Diving into the Eccentric: Wan's embrace of the weird and eccentric facets of Aquaman's world promises a visual and imaginative feast.
Topo's Return: Aquaman's loyal sidekick, Topo, adds nostalgia and whimsy to the film, charming fans.
A Message of Urgency: The film addresses environmental issues, urging environmental consciousness and conservation efforts.
A Glimpse into the Future: While a third installment remains unconfirmed, the film sets the stage for more adventures. Batman's rumored cameo remains a mystery, promising an unexpected revelation.
In conclusion, "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" offers heart-stopping action, profound storytelling, and a visual spectacle that defies description. Brace yourself for an underwater odyssey that will leave you spellbound, an epic etching itself into cinematic legend.

THESE MUSES ARE LOOKING FOR THEIR MISSED CONNECTIONS:
SEBASTIAN RIVERA is looking for ART HISTORY STUDENTS. they’d like the faceclaim to possibly be someone along the lines of UTP (any age is fine! these can be undergraduate or graduate students), but you must reach out to andante–andante to find out more!
NORAH RAJAN is looking for THEIR BEST FRIEND. they’d like the faceclaim to possibly be someone along the lines of JESSE RATH, MARTIN SENSMEIER, LUDI LIN, MANNY JACINTO, YAHYA ABDUL-MATEEN II, RAHUL KOHLI, SACHA DHAWAN, UTP (FCOC PREFERRED) AGED 33-37, but you must reach out to DADIISM to find out more! (wc and norah have been best friends since grade school. he’s always supported her and at some point moved in with her after high school (or college) to help her with the kids. he’s more of a father figure to them than their actual dad. if the chemistry is right, i’m all for a friends to lovers, it’s always been you sort of situation!)
ANGELO CORTES ESTRADA is looking for THEIR AA SPONSOR. they’d like the faceclaim to possibly be someone along the lines of STERLING K BROWN, AMY ACKER, MATT CZUCHRY, WENTWORTH MILLER, SARAH PAULSON, LANA PARRILLA, EDGAR RAMIREZ, DAVID HARBOUR, ANY FC 40+, but you must reach out to DADIISM to find out more! (as part of his parole, angelo attends aa meets. he isn’t very good at attending them and isn’t really taking it too seriously (he’s still drinking) but this person would have confidence in him and support him, probably calling/texting to check up on him when he misses meetings, etc)
DIEGO ROBINSON-ARMSTRONG is looking for THEIR BEST FRIEND. they’d like the faceclaim to possibly be someone along the lines of UTP 48+ (suggestions include Tracie Thoms, Michael Greyeyes, Daniel Wu, Gina Torres, Gabrielle Union, Byron Mann) but you must reach out to OFWISHFULTHINKING to find out more! (+ this connection is quite fluid. I just imagine supportive best friends. This is probably the one person who knows the extent of Diego’s recent business dealings – something that not even his husband knows. I imagine that they give him a lot of advice, and the two spend a lot of time together. They’ve probably known one another for years (they could’ve even met working at the hotel together in their 20s) and have remained close throughout the years. All in all, they’re each other’s person and know all of the other’s deepest darkest secrets!)
MALACHI DUBOIS is looking for THEIR MILITARY BUDS. they’d like the faceclaim to possibly be someone along the lines of UTP, but you must reach out to OFWISHFULTHINKING to find out more! (+ Mal’s been out of the military for nearly two decades now due to a medical discharge (info in his intro post), but he still attends groups at the VA and keeps up with his military buds. Once a month, they all get together to have some drinks and shoot some pool. I’m imagining some casual friendships. I’d also like if one of them was more of a close friend – maybe they work out together every day – someone Mal can confide in, who uniquely understands his circumstances and helps him with managing his PTSD!)
SEBASTIAN RIVERA is looking for A CONFIDANT/CLOSE FRIEND. they’d like the faceclaim to possibly be someone along the lines of UTP around late 30s or older, but you must reach out to andante–andante to find out more!
MAIA KELLY is looking for CREW MEMBERS. they’d like the faceclaim to possibly be someone along the lines of UTP, but you must reach out to FADEDSTARSFMS to find out more! ( Maia has been double crossed by latest crew, utp if they were a part of that or if they parted ways before that!) taken by landon dunn
EDGAR YANG is looking for THEIR CHILDHOOD BEST FRIEND. they’d like the faceclaim to possibly be someone along the lines of UTP 35+ (suggestions include Kendrick Sampson, Andrew Koji, Alexander Dreymon, Francois Arnaud, Dichen Lachman, Kristen Kreuk, Martin Sensmeier) but you must reach out to OFWISHFULTHINKING to find out more! (+ Edgar was born and raised in France. His family is well known as they’ve owned multiple wineries for generations. This person could either be someone whose family was in the same social circles, or even the child of someone who worked for the family. Either way, this was someone Edgar considered one of his best friends growing up. They likely lost contact when Edgar moved away after his 18th birthday, but are no reconnecting. What brings them to Denver is completely UTP!)
CARLEIGHA ORTIZ is looking for RIVAL. they’d like the faceclaim to possibly be someone along the lines of UTP preferably FCOC, but you must reach out to xallmywolvesx to find out more! (+ 32+ years old, the pair would have met in the children’s hospital ward way back when (16+ years ago) and have been adversarial ever since. The original cause is up for plotting or they just annoyed each other from the start and have continued to actively push each other’s buttons since!)
ESME LOOMIS is looking for THEIR CHILDHOOD BEST FRIEND. they’d like the faceclaim to possibly be someone along the lines of DEV PATEL, KIOWA GORDON, HARVEY GUILLEN, JAY HAYDEN, ANDREW KOJI, ANY FC 33-38ISH, but you must reach out to DADIISM to find out more! ( honestly most of the character can be your creation/utp! esme was definitely “one of the guys”/a tomboy growing up, so wc would’ve been her best friend. wc should either be from denver or have moved there at some point during school aged years (before the age of 18). they’ve been close ever since they met and wc would be like an uncle to esme’s ten year old daughter, alicia.

A/N: Be gentle with me yall lol. I'm rusty and this is my first story back after basically rebranding my blog. Hope yall enjoy.
Trigger Warnings: Mentions of miscarriage
Length: 1,133 words
Genre: Angst
Jaela was beyond done. This man had embarrassed her for the last time. She stared at herself in the mirror and couldn't help but be disappointed in herself for how her life turned out. How did she get here? When did she become this woman? After leaving her bathroom she walked out into her living room where 6 large boxes sat, full of her ex's things. Yahya Abdul Manteen II. The man who's responsible for the cold heart that now sat inside of Jaela's body. When she went to see him on set she heard him fucking another woman in his trailer. She was there to surprise him, only for her to be the one getting surprised. She left quietly, making sure none of the other cast and crew or his team saw her. She vowed that this was the last time she'd stand by while he cheats. She was over his constant infidelity and she hated that after each time he'd given himself to another woman, she'd take him back after his broken promises to do better. So she did what she had to do. She ghosted him. It'd been almost 2 weeks of him calling and texting non-stop. He even had his friends and his mother calling her. The only person she communicated with was his mother. She was the one who introduced them and she was disappointed in her son but had hope he and Jaela would work it out..
“So he’s convinced that you’re cheating on him and that’s why you’re not talking to him. Asked me to call and spy on you.” His mom spoke. She chuckled a bit remembering how desperate Yahya sounded.
“Well that’s rich coming from him. He fucks anything with legs and he’s worried that I’m sleeping with other people?” Jaela replied. She knows she's supposed to respect her elders but she was thrown off by his audacity.
“What are you going to do? Don’t you think he deserves to know that you no longer want to be with him?” She asks.
“Are you fucking kidding me? I know that's your son and I'm sorry for all the cussing. But you need to ask his trifling ass did I deserve to know he wanted to fuck other women before he decided to cheat! I would have rather he dumped me first but noooooo he wants to have his cake and eat it too. I’M FUCKING DONE!!!!” Jaela yelled. She hung up on her then resumed her packing.
She managed to fill a couple more boxes and put them in the living room with the others. She popped open a bottle of Stella Rosa Black and got the largest glass she could find. She filled it a bit over half way and started chugging her wine like it was water. Before she could finish off her glass, she heard a knock at the door. When she peeked through the peephole, she was disgusted. She opened the door without a word and let Yahya walk in.
“Well hello to you too. Mean ass. And here I am thinking you're sick or some shit.” He said.
“Boy, why are you here? I know you’re dumb, but you’re not that dumb.” Jaela snarked. She hated how smug he looked and wanted to wipe that shit right off of his face.
“Awww baby don’t be like that. I entertained this bratty shit for 2 weeks. It’s time for me to come back home.” Yayha teased.
“Home? And what bills do you pay my nigga? Cuz last time I fucking checked, I pay all the bills in this bitch. You need to leave. I told your ass I was done and meant it. So get all of this shit outta my house or I’m donating it to the Good Will.” Jaela yelled. He looked at her like she lost her damn mind. Ain’t no way this bitch just talked to him like that, he thought. He walked up on her and yoked her up, applying pressure to her upper arm.
“See, I know you don’t think I was just gonna let your ass walk away like that. Did you really think you were gonna dump me in a text and I wouldn’t pop up on your ass? What? You mad cuz I fuck other women from time to time? So the fuck what. You knew what you were getting into when you got with me. I love you and I come home to YOU! Yet you trying to leave ME?! Bitch I should have left YOU, especially after you killed our baby. But no, I stayed with you. Just like you stayed with me after all those other times. You wanna break up, fine. But just remember, no one will love you like I do.” Yahya seethed. Jaela promised she was done shedding tears over this man but at the mention of the son they lost, her eyes watered. She remembered that day. The ride to the hospital, hearing the news. She even remembered him blaming her for the loss and she got angry.
“FUCK YOU! I lost our child because of YOU! You stressed me out with your bullshit and our son paid the fucking price. And I’m glad no one will love me the way you did because that shit isn’t love! I fucking HATE you and I wish I never met you. You’ve fucked me up so bad in the head. For 3 years I let you ruin me and break me down. But no more. NO FUCKING MORE!” Jaela fumed. She’d had it with him. The fucking audacity of this piece of shit. He had never seen her this angry and he didn’t know what to do.
“Baby I-”
“Get the fuck out!” She sighed after calming herself down. She was exasperated and beyond exhausted. All she wanted to do was get her living room cleared out and try to enjoy the rest of her night.
“You not giving my shit away, Jaela.” He warned. She looked at him and laughed. He was taken aback but let it go.
“All of that and you’re worried about all this materialistic ass shit? Oh baby don’t worry, I’ll make sure your precious items make it back to you safely. Just leave.” She said, as she watched him walk out the door, she collapsed on the nearest sofa and let out a long shaky breath. In a way she felt relieved. On the other hand she felt heartbroken at the deterioration of her relationship. Yahya was the man she called her forever and he ruined that. She also held herself accountable for all the bare minimum things she accepted out of her fear of loneliness.
But tomorrow is a new day and it’s time for her to begin her healing.

Ambulance
[3.5 stars]
Honestly, I’m not a fan of Michael Bay (6 Underground). He tends to favor action over character, hollowing out potentially good films in favor of explosions and cheap humor. But this latest flick of his is the exception that proves the rule. It is breathless and frenetic, but also possibly the best films of his I’ve watched.
Jake Gyllenhaal (Spider-Man: Far From Home) and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Candyman) play brothers in a robbery gone very, very wrong. It is the tension of their differing reasons for being there and their attachment to one another that drives the story. Eiza González (Bloodshot), who gets tangled up in the mess has her own parallel thread to help enrich the tangled mess.
In opposition and orchestrating a good deal of the chase and conflict, sometimes with the best intentions, are Garrett Dillahunt (Widows) and Keir O’Donnell (United States of Tara). Two different agents who manage to work together and tag team the efforts in surprisingly mature ways.
While Bay’s signature violence and action dominate the energy, Chris Fedak’s (Prodigal Son) adaptation is what adds the depth. Given the pressure to keep the cars crashing and bullets flying, Fedak did a hell of a job for a first feature shimming in character and emotion. He also gifted Olivia Stambouliah with some fabulously wry and dry lines.
I’m not claiming this is Oscar-worthy, or even entirely logical at times, but every time you’d find a hole in the story or wonder about a character’s drive, the story would acknowledge it and fill it in enough to get you past the moment. And, by the end, it is about the characters more than the action…though an enormous number of cars are destroyed during the movie, and mountains of brass are fired.
For an exhausting and exciting escape, it is a much better choice than I’d imagined. From the moment it begins, you are pulled along through to the ending. And the ending is satisfying on several levels thanks to the fact that there are characters amidst the action, with actual motivations and issues that get addressed.

Note
another happiness short for yahya would be lovely. Can’t really pick between 1) I’ve loved you since the day we met.”
or
6) “I’ve never loved anyone the way I love you.”
😌😌
Ooh let’s go with the first one. I’m inspired by Isaiah K. John announcing the birth of his son.
Day One
“She’s finally made it out. Who does she look like?” Yahya looked away from his front camera to the sleeping infant swaddled in her bassinet. “She looks like a little peanut, honestly.”
“A peanut?”
“Yeah. I mean, it’s only been a week. She doesn’t look like much of anything right now.”
“Let me see!”
Instead of disturbing her slumber, Yahya carefully positioned the phone for his sister to get a good look at the family’s newest addition.
“Aww,” she cooed. “She looks like Lady!”
Yahya stared back at his daughter with a fond smile. “She does, huh. They have the same nose and mouth.”
“You two make a cute baby, that’s for sure. I can’t wait to pinch those cheeks in a few months.”
“When the Captain lifts restrictions, y’all will be the first people I invite over.”
“And don’t bother her about it a moment before time,” his sister warned. “Be a good baby daddy and keep her comfortable. We can wait.”
“I’m not a baby da-.” Yahya’s protest quickly took a backseat to the distressed cries beside him. He took a quick look over the edge, afraid that his only child was in danger. Though she didn’t look hurt, her cries continued to grow.
He looked back at his phone to explain, but stopped when his sister held up her hand.
“Go ahead. She needs you more than me. We’ll talk later.”
Quick goodbyes left Yahya face to face with a crying infant and no idea how to handle the situation by himself.
His eyes frantically searched the room for a bottle or some other soothing device only to come up empty. He silently cursed himself for not paying attention when baby items were being stored the week before.
Instead of asking for help, he took a deep breath and gingerly lifted his daughter into his arms.
“Hey now, little girl. What’s all this about?”
As he bounced her from side to side, she seemed to answer his question with a pleased sigh. He chuckled and smiled.
“Oh you wanted Daddy to hold you, huh? Seven days in and you’re already making demands. I respect it.”
He watched as all traces of worry in her face transformed into the type of serenity that adults spend their whole lives chasing. Yahya ran his thumb over her cheek to brush away a leftover tear.
“You know, I’ve loved you since the day we met. I know you’re seeing me for the first time ever, and I’m no competition for your mama, but I knew you months ago. I saw you grown in your mama’s belly and cause all kinds of trouble before you came into this world. But I loved you.”
Yahya watched his daughter’s eyes flutter behind her closed lids and worried that his voice was too loud. He began to whisper.
“I’ll always love you. And your mama. There’s nothing you can do to make me love you any less. I guess aside from being a Falcons fan. That’s unforgivable.”
“She damn sure can’t be a Saints fan.”
Yahya’s smile grew twice its size as he turned to lay eyes on the body leaning against the room’s threshold.
“We shouldn’t argue in front of the baby.”
“Oh, this isn’t an argument. No Saints fan can live in this home.”
They stifled laughter as Lady walked closer. Yahya welcomed her to the group by opening his free arm and pulled her body close to his side. His lips found a home on her temple for a sweet kiss.
“She looks like you,” he whispered into her hairline.
“She looks like an almond,” Lady answered, laughing. “But thank you. We did a good a job.”
“You did a good job. I was just along for the ride. And what a ride it was.”
Lady rolled her eyes and pushed away from Yahya’s side. “Gross. I’m going back to sleep.”
Loud laughter erupted from his chest for several second until the sound was interrupted by small cries. His daughter was awake and furious that her slumber was disturbed by her father’s antics.
Instead of helping, Lady left the room for Yahya to experience his first lesson in fatherhood.

Sneak Peek of Just For Tonight
“First things first, welcome to The Late Late Show, Zen,” greeted James with an enthusiastic clap of his hands. “It’s a pleasure to have you here. Do you know Yahya?”
Zen throws her hair back over her shoulder in a sexy manner before giving Yahya a thorough once-over. “I am familiar with him, yes.” She shot him a dazzling smile, which made Yahya’s lower region stir within the confines of his pants. Her sultry voice paired with that seductive smirk of hers made him arouse like no other. Zen was Aphrodite incarnate, sexy beyond comprehension, and truly irresistible. “I’m a big fan.”
“Same here, mamas,” he retorted, patting her bare leg affectionately. Yahya was just going with the vibe they initially set, and he hoped that he wasn’t being offensive. Nonetheless, his worries subsided when he felt the gentle brush of her leg against his.
Oh, so it’s like that, huh? Say the fuck less.
“Really? What’s your favorite role of mine?” she taunted him, making both the audience and James gasp in shock.
Premiering later tonight

Be Careful What You Wish For (Chapter 3)
Author Notes: It’s Halloween season and I wanted to bring a spooky but cautionary tale of wanting something so bad that it could cost you everything. These chapters will be pretty long since I want to wrap up the story by Halloween so I hope you enjoy :)
Word Count: 4,300 +
Warning: Curse words, and Slight Smut
Chapters: (1)(2)
Tumblr media
“Don’t stop baby,” I begged with the feeling of Yahya hardness inside me. Driving deeper and deeper with every stroke was drawing me closer to my climax.
“I love you,” he breathed into my ear before heading down and swirling his tongue around my nipple.
“Oh God, I lo.. love you too,” I stuttered while digging my nails into his back.
With him going rougher, I couldn’t bear it anymore as I pressed my eyes shut as I dissolved in pleasure.
“Shit, baby, I’m cumming... baby,” I cry as my body jerked not realizing he was cumming as well. As we both return to reality, we tenderly kissed each other while out of breath.
“Damn, I will never leave you again,” Yahya murmured as he caresses my face.
“You better not,” I beamed as I brushed his hair.
Something caught my eye by the entrance to my bedroom. I turned my head towards the bedroom door and spotted someone drifting by.
“Yahya,” I shrieked which provoked him to jump up and look in the area by the door.
“What?”
“I think someone is in the house. Somebody crossed in front of the door.”
Yahya got out of bed and put on his pants. “Stay here,” he ordered as he left the bedroom to examine the house. I went to grab my robe out of the bathroom and sat back down on the bed. It seemed like forever has passed when he has merely gone for about 2 minutes. “Yahya,” I wailed due to being terrified, and he hasn’t returned yet. “Yahya,” I screamed again when he came back to the room. I ran out of the bed to dash over into his arms where I felt protected.
“I found no one, and you locked everything. Are you positive you saw someone? Maybe it was one of our shadows.”
“It looked like a person but,” I hesitate because I doubt myself. “I don’t know, I don’t know what to believe anymore.” Part of me thinks if this connects to the potion but Genecia disclosed nothing about spirits. I’m not even for certain why I continue seeing Shaunee’s deceased friend. Am I having hallucinations? Maybe I need to see a specialist.
He holds me tighter and adds, “Well, why don’t I stay the night so you will be safe and we can replay our earlier activities.”
“I would prefer that and you are nasty,” I giggle as I patted his chest, “but first, I need a shower and we need to have a serious talk.”
“We can manage both, let’s go” while he pulls me to the bathroom.
After we both showered, we have dinner while we discussed our future together. Yahya assures me he only wants to be with me and that he cares for me. He discusses how he will be there for his child and will set up an arrangement with Traci. We admitted that we both want a relationship but I don’t know how to feel... I’m excited for us but feel deceitful at the same time. I demand to be happy but do I crave it at the cost of punishing someone else? And how I will explain this to my friends and family, especially Zarela since I’m positive she knows what I achieved?  But just seeing him here with me is helping me fill the void that has been nonexistent for too damn long.
**********
“Are you trying to overshadow the queen tonight? All eyes need to be on me, don’t neglect that bish,” Shaunee jokes as we are shopping for outfits for her birthday dinner tonight.
“Of course not, your highness,” I responding laughing while holding up a charming peach dress. “What are the colors again?”
Shaunee takes the dress from my hands and sticks it back on the rack. “Absolutely not that; you know I mentioned it’s an all-black party so don’t try it. I will kick people out that don’t follow orders.”
“Even your best friend?” With me expressing the finest sad puppy dog face.
“No doubt about it,” Shaunee counters with a wink and a smile.
“That’s cold,” I declare while checking out a black blouse. Shaunee shifts and gives me an exasperated glance and roll her eyes.
“Cold, no, what’s cold is how I didn’t hear from you after we left my place earlier this week. If you were pissed off at me, all you had to do was let me know. I even called Zarela to see if she had any contact with you and to my surprise, she hasn’t either.”
Learning she was a little upset by my actions, I immediately apologize.
“I’m sorry and I shouldn’t have left you hanging like that. There have been no more incidents at my home and Officer Green has made a few stops throughout the week to check on me. And... I have been catching up with an old friend.”
“Old friend?” Shaunee asked now perplexed to who it can be. “Have I met your friend before?”
I pick up another dress snickering because I already know what’s coming next.
“Yes, and my companion is coming to your birthday dinner tonight. Do you like this dress? I don’t know about the back.”
Shaunee waves her hands and shaking her head with disapproval. “Hold up, who is this friend? She can’t be included in our circle without me and Zarela’s blessing. And who declared that I invited her?”
“First, it’s he, not she, and I determined it would be wonderful if we all catch up with each other. What’s a better place than tonight at your birthday dinner?”
“Oh,” Shaunee mentions surprised. “So your plus one is a he? And we have met before? This should be entertaining.”
“Yep, it will be, but now, let’s focus on me right now with seeking to find a sexy dress.”
“How about this?” Shaunee chuckles as she hands me a hideous flower dress.
“You truly demand no one to upstage you, huh?” I proposed as we both laugh traveling to the next aisle.
**********
I was adding the finishing touch to my look with applying a little highlighter above my cheeks, collecting a few breaths to aid with my nerves. I already knew Shaunee and Zarela would freak seeing me with Yahya so mentally, I had to prepare myself with all the questioning and judgments. “No BS tonight, just have a great time,” I tell to myself as I check myself out in the mirror one last time. I fluffed out some of my curls when I detected a black shadow in the reflection of my mirror, standing at the entrance of my bedroom door. I spun around but nobody was there. “Am I tripping again?” “Hello,” I yelled as I dreaded stepping towards the door. The power abruptly cut off as I stand in the darkness of my home.
“What the hell?” I exclaim as I rush towards my kitchen, terrorized out of my mind. I searched in the drawers and was comforted when I discovered my flashlight. I turn it on as I raced towards my living room, frightened that someone was in my home. “I will call the police,” I yell as I snatch my phone from the coffee table desperately struggling to unlock my phone. Just as I was about to press “9”, my flashlight caught something swiftly shift to the corner of the living room. I walked towards the shadow as I noticed it was an individual by the light reflection on their boots. I raised the flashlight due to my curiosity and halted when I saw their shirt saturated with blood. When I saw the stab wounds on her chest, I knew specifically who it was and prayed to God to grant me courage.
“Remy, why are you here? What do you want? Let me help you,” I bravely state as I lifted the light towards her face. Her eyes were closed, and she was weeping. I took two steps forward to console her but my flashlight flickered and later, cut off. I peeked down and beat the flashlight onto the palm of my other hand to get it to come back on. The trick worked but my body froze as Remy and I were face to face. She gripped my the sides of my head and screamed. Petrified, I dropped the flashlight, screamed and hit her so she can let me go but it only caused her grip to tighten as I felt her nails deeply scratch my scalp.
“Stop... someone, help me,” I howled as I struggled to get away from her but I couldn’t escape. She dragged me back towards her face and screamed again as our eyes established contact. Her spirit passed into my body as I had vivid images of her existence. It seemed like I was experiencing her moments of life, learning everything from the good to the bad, until all slowed down and I teleported to a swamp.
Tumblr media
Not being capable to figure out if I was hallucinating or not, I roamed around until I arrived at an enormous Willow tree with a man kneeling down, lingering over a woman laying down. As I reached the individuals, I realized it was Remy. She was staring straight at me with an expression of appealing for comfort and accepting. The man had his back towards me with his hoodie blanketing his face. I leaned down to reach for her but the man lifted his arm revealing a knife in his hand. Comprehending what’s going on, I cried “No”, but he stabbed Remy repeatedly. Dread surged through my soul as I turned to run with the tree branch catching my feet causing me to fall. In agony, I shift around and see the man standing over me.
“Please, please... don’t do this, please,” I begged and wept, observing the blood dripping from the knife still unable to see his face. I turn my head and glance over at Remy, seeing her battle to survive. “He will kill you,” she warns before taking her final breath as her spirit radiated towards the sky. Tears stream down my face as I shift to face my killer. He gawks at me for a few moments before withdrawing his hood revealing who he is. “No... no, it can’t be... please, I’m sorry... I’m so sorry,” I plead as he raises the knife and thus rapidly lower it towards my chest as everything goes black.
“NO,” I screamed sitting up from my living room floor. My heart is pounding, my chest aches, and it appears like I can’t breathe. The lights were back on in my home and I searched around to determine if anyone was here. I glared down at my chest to check for any wounds or blood but it‘s only a large bruise. “What happened?” I investigated in my dazed state of mind as I got up from the floor. As soon as I was on my feet, I felt lightheaded and intense pains on the sides on my head. I lay on the couch to calm myself down and to recollect the events of what took place. “What’s going on? Am I losing my mind? This has to be another hallucination due to my stress.  Is Remy a ghost?” I sought to show reasons for my psychological state but silenced by the doorbell.
“Who is it?” I requested when I appeared at my front door still feeling apprehensive about Remy.
“It’s me,”
I opened the door to welcome him in and Yahya smiled vanished when he noticed the condition I was in.
“Are you okay? What happened to your chest?” He saw my bruise as he came in for a hug.
“Ah, I don’t know... clumsy I suppose,” I lie because I didn’t wish to disclose the situation and proving not to sound crazy.
“You sure? Do I need to deal with someone? I don’t play that shit,” he declares as his attitude turns serious.
“I’m fine, just had a bad dream and stumbled out the bed. I guess I struck my chest on the way down. I need to add a little foundation on top of it so I won’t keep getting asked about it all night.”
Yahya stares at me for a minute but accepts my reason with reaching down for a peck on my lips.
“I already missed you,” he states grinning.
“It’s hardly been a day,“ I snort as I head towards my bedroom. “Let me cover this up and then we can head out.”
“Are you sure your friends will be okay with this? I haven’t spoken to them in a while so I know they will give me Hell when they see us.”
“They have no choice and besides, it you and me against the world right?” I jokingly demand.
“Oh, did your electricity go out? You left the flashlight on the floor,” he asks as he reached to pick up the flashlight from the floor and turn it off.
“Yeah, but not for long. Do you mind putting it in the far left drawer in the kitchen for me? Let me hurry so we won’t be late,” I respond seeking to finish the discussion before it commences. Watching him hold the flashlight had me second guessing myself about this whole situation.

Tumblr media
Walking into 14 Parishes restaurant had my stomach growling with the smells of jerk chicken, oxtails, and sweet plantain in the air. We took a seat next to another couple that was there and enjoyed the live reggae band. “I think we are early,” I whispered to Yahya as the waiter took our drink order. Reveling in the environment and having a small talk with the other guest, I was amazed to observe Zarela arrive on time since she is the last one to show up at every event we attend. I was nervous about how she would react seeing me and Yahya together as she skimmed over to us. My mood sank as I caught her grimace and shake her head in disappointment. Completely avoiding us, Zarela seated on the opposite end from us chatting to other people.
I tapped Yahya shoulder, “Excuse me for a minute, I will be right back.”
“Is everything okay?”
“Yeah, I’m just going to talk to Zarela,” I pointed out as I set up from the table.
“Okay, I think I will speak to her later on... she looks pissed.”
“You detected that too,” I smirk as I move down to kiss him on the cheek.
I strolled over to Zarela while she is still ignoring me.
“Excuse me, I don’t mean to be rude but can I talk to Z for a second?”
“Sure, I need to catch up with other folks anyway,” the young lady nicely expressed as she pulled up from her chair and offered it to me.
Zarela was avoiding all eye contact with me as she savored on her rum punch. “Z, you going to act like I’m not sitting here?”
“Oh, now you choose to talk?” Zarela snapped back. “By the way you have been acting lately, I thought differently.
“Come on girl, I have been going through a lot...”
“And I presume you desired my sister to help you instead of your best friend? I guess it worked since his ass is sitting down there like a puppet. You fucked up and you don’t even understand it yet.”
“Shh,” as I placed my finger over my lips so she would get the point. “I will talk to you about this later.”
“You know, I didn’t expect this from you. It’s insane when people present you their true colors. My sister was right, desperate people will do desperate things.”
“What is that supposed to mean? I realize I have been a bad friend lately but I promise to do better. And... what did your sister tell you?” I interrogated.
“Everything and it’s fucked up how you ruined his life. I can’t believe you did that K. Did you even consider the consequences? What about Traci? You only care about yourself.”
“I didn’t ruin his life,” I roughly shouted. “Look, I don’t even know for certain how much of the potion worked. You act like we didn’t have a history.”
“Bullshit, Khalil... nobody changes like that overnight...”
I cut our argument short due to the entrance of Shaunee.
“Happy Birthday,” everyone squealed as she paused to pose for pictures and greeted her guest.
“Does Shaunee know?” Zarela questions as Shaunee passes her way towards us.
“No, but please...”
“It’s not my place to reveal anything. I will leave that for you to do,” Zarela responded coldly but reversed her attitude when Shaunee comes to us.
“Sisters, I’m glad you all made it out to help celebrate with me. You like?” Shaunee proposed to both of us about her all-white outfit. She was beautiful and yet look like she is 18 when in reality, she was turning 38 years old.
“Beautiful sis,” I spoke smiling.
“You came to slay my life tonight,” Zarela giggles as she snaps her fingers.
“Y’all okay? It sounded like you all were arguing. What’s up with that?” Shaunee requested.
“Just a little fuss but it’s all good now you are here,” I answer working to improve the scene.
“We good,” Zarela utters but I can see she was about to be messy. “Oh, Khalil, before I forget, let me go over to say hello to Yahya. Don’t want to be rude towards your date.” Suddenly, she strides over towards Yahya direction.
Shaunee hits me an unsettled look while her mouth drops open. She turns and takes a peek of Yahya before shooting her glare back to me.
“What is Yahya doing here?
“He is my plus one.”
“WHAT?” Shaunee covers her mouth as she is for a loss of words.
“We have reconciled, and I have been keeping it a secret for right now. I didn’t tell you or Zarela because I’m afraid of what you all would assume.” I confided not knowing how her reception would be.
“What about Traci? I assumed...”
“They ended the engagement. He will be in their child’s life but they are done.”
“Oh” is all that Shaunee could express.
“Look, it’s your day, and it’s not about me right now so let’s celebrate you hitting that big 5-0.”
“The Devil is a lie,” Shaunee pronounced than we both laugh as we hugged each other. “We still need to talk but let me say if you are happy, I am happy for you.”
“Thank you, now go sit your butt at the head of the table and let’s grub. It’s your time, queen.”
We both head back to our tables as I went over by Zarela and Yahya.
“Hey you two, playing nice with each other?”
Zarela and Yahya would regularly have a playful batter with each other when we were previously together. They would crack jokes, debate over something dumb, and prank each other like they were brother and sister.
“We were catching up, but she is still as crazy as ever,” Yahya laughs.
“Whatever,” Zarela grins while pinching him on his arm.
“Some things never change,” I say realizing how I missed their playful interactions.
“Let me go to my seat but it was nice seeing you again. Don’t be a stranger,” Zarela voice to Yahya as she heads back to her spot. As she moves by me, she whispers in my ear, “You need to end this, NOW,” as she proceeds on to her chair. I take my seat pondering on what she spoke and deep down knowing she was right... but how?
“Thanks for the invite, I am having a great time and I heard the food was amazing,” he tells me as he reads over the menu.
“I’m glad you are having a wonderful time.
The rest of the night was marvelous with good food and company. Shaunee seemed to enjoy herself with her getting a little tipsy with a few coconut mojitos. She even danced with Yahya as we roared at her trying to do every popular dance that’s out there but failing horribly. We didn’t care with us screaming, “Go Shaunee, Go Shaunee,” with every move she busted. The night was coming to end with everyone saying their goodbyes and Zarela and I helping Shaunee into Z’s car as she volunteered to be her designated driver. I was fastening Shaunee’s seatbelt when she reached over to grab my hand, “I’m so happy that you and Yahya are back together. I haven’t seen you so happy in a long time. Hopefully this time it will last forever.”
Zarela sighed and rolled her eyes, “Let’s get you home baby girl.”
I closed the passenger door while waving goodbye one more time and walked over to the driver side where Zarela was getting in to start the car.
“Wait,” I appeal and capture the door before she closed it. “What do I need to do in order for you to forgive me?”
Zarela spitefully laughs and responds, “How can you ask for forgiveness when you haven’t forgiven yourself? We wouldn’t be having this conversation if you would have done that after Yahya left you.”
“Z, you don’t understand. It broke me... the love of my life left me and I couldn’t move on. It’s like you don’t know how it feels to experience heartbreak and I was suffering.” I declare while wiping my tears from my face.
“You right, it has never broken me but you know what? There are people all over this world that are damaged. I’m sure many of individuals right now are dealing with the end of a relationship as their heart is being ripped out of their chest. But what makes them different from you? They move the fuck on and don’t do foolish shit as you did. Don’t you comprehend how many people’s lives you put in danger? You don’t think sometimes Khalil and that’s scary,” Zarela now visibly annoyed but trying not to make a scene.
“What do you mean people I put in danger? It was just a potion, Zarela. You act like I murdered someone,” I cry.
“What are y’all yelling about?” Shaunee asks as she drifts back and forth from sleepiness.
Zarela clearly annoyed at point states, “Enjoy your life, Khalil.  I am not going to be that person to tell you, “I told you so” once shit starts going downhill.  Please close my door so I can take Shaunee home.”
“What the fuck is your problem?  What I do in my life doesn’t concern you so why are you so pressed?  You know what, forget his shit.  Goodnight Z,” I yell as I slam her door.
Zarela rolls down the window and calls out, “Bitch, don’t be slamming my door. You must want another problem on your hands.” She drives off while I flip her off with her returning it back.
“Whoa, is this a bad time or?” Yahya asks, reaching for me from behind wrapping his arms around my waist.
“I need to tell you something. I’m confident you will hate me after this.”
He grips my hips to spin me around so I am facing him. “I will not hate you, I never have.”
“Are you sure about that? Because I believe at one point you did.”

(Reflection of the past)
“He doesn’t understand or care how I feel,” I complain to Xavion about my earlier confrontation with Yahya.
“You know he can be stubborn but don’t sweat it. He will come around,” Xavion conveys as he takes another sample of his Hennesy.
Shaunee and Zarela magnificently decorated and hosted our party which was held at one of Shaunee manager’s vacation home in the Garden District. Many of our dearest friends and family came to wish us prosperity for our upcoming marriage but I wasn’t in the mood. Zarela and Shaunee would continually advise me to smile due to my aurora rubbing off on our guest. I‘m drained of the fakeness so I slipped off into one bedroom where Xavion was hiding as well. Surprised that he wasn’t intermingling with Yahya, he mentioned that he needed a smoke break so he came up here to use the balcony. I asked if he could keep me company for a minute just so I can talk to someone that didn’t have a biased opinion on how what I’m going through. After a few glasses of Hennessy, I was open like a book.
“But what if he’s like that during our marriage? We need to be in this together, not just him making all the decision.” I explain in my drunken rant.
“Well, since you mentioned you, all would talk tonight, just inform him what you told me. He is crazy about you and hey, happy wife, happy life, right?” He chuckles as he gives me a flirtatious nudge.
I peer into his woozy eyes and thanked him for listening. “Thank you, Xavion. You always know the right thing to say.” I reached up and held his cheek. He reached up to place his hand over my hand to graze it. We both remained there and gawked at each other in an intoxicated gaze for a few minutes. Without warning, he dropped down and kissed me on my lips. I don’t know why I didn’t stop him and I don’t know why I kissed him back but on this occasion, I was caught up with just someone understanding me. He reached down to pull me closer into his embrace as I tasted the liquor from his tongue. Everything changed at that moment as the door opened revealing Yahya standing there grieving the loss of his fiance and his best friend.

(Present Day)
“I never despised you. Hurt, yes... disappointed, for sure... pissed, hell yes, but never hate,” he acknowledged as he kissed my bottom lip.
“You don’t have to lie, Yahya.” I pull away from his kiss and take a couple of steps back. “And you may start to after I inform you what I did.”
He walks up and kisses me again. “Whatever it is, just know I will always love you. I never stopped loving you. Even after what happened, I tried to hate you but...,” he halts as he leans his forehead onto mine. “I can’t Khalil, I can’t stop loving you.”
I grin and choose not to reveal my confession at this time. “Let’s go home,” I suggest as I drag him towards his car.
“I love the sound of that... home, as in our home?” he proposes standing by to see my reaction.
“Yes... our home.”
