The Ladies

(I have some side characters as well, but let's focus on the main female cast for now)

Dacia (Didi)

Rio’s younger sister and Miguel’s only niece, Didi is as wild as she is beautiful. Growing up with the boys, she was always well protected, but it was unneeded. Didi can protect herself. She loves working on cars, loves to shoot guns, loves baking, and is fierce with the liquid eyeliner. Didi is used to getting her way, through either her natural charm and looks or through more... aggressive persuasion, Didi knows what she wants and goes after it. She had her first kiss with Angel when she was a teenager, and promptly realized she was not attractive to men. Didi is in a serious relationship with Toni, and she is head over heels for her. Recently released from a two year stint in prison (she was able to get out after serving only a year and three months), Didi is eager to get back into the swing of things, primarily working jobs with the boys as either the getaway driver or a distraction to the guards. Didi knows that she is beautiful and uses that to her advantage; she wanted to be a beautician, but never made it to her classes on time and wasn’t able to complete the program. She wants to marry Toni and secretly yearns for a quiet, happy life for the two of them.

Antionette (Toni)

A ward of the state, Toni met Didi and Rio in a Group Home when they were all teenagers. Her father was a poet, and died of a heart attack when she was a child. Her mother spiraled into drug use and alcohol until the state intervened and removed Toni from the home. Toni fell in love with Didi, and they have been dating for about four years now. She works at a diner as she pursues a degree in medicine. Toni only knows a bit about what the family does--which she is fine with. The less she knows, the less she can tell the cops if/when they try to interview her. Toni is bi, and she loves Didi with all of her heart. She supports Didi’s choices to live a criminal life, but she worries for her. Toni has had to patch Didi, her brother, and her cousins up on multiple occasions. Besides working at the diner, she also works part time at a Retirement Home, where she steals supplies to keep in the likely case she has to clean up injuries for any of the boys--or Didi. Her mother, now clean and sober, has recently come back into her life, and they are working on rebuilding their relationship.

Eve

Miguel’s personal assistant and best friend, Eve has helped him build his empire from the ground up. Miguel trusts her with everything, and she trusts him. She has multiple degrees in business and economics, and speaks four languages (English, Spanish, French, and ASL). Eve is very professional and put-together, and she grew up in the hood. She works hard to maintain the image of being a silver spoon girl and to look and act professional; Miguel is one of the few people who know about her humble beginnings. And as much as Eve wants to be seen as a serious, professional woman, she can’t help the feelings she has for Miguel. The two of them have known each other for over 15 years, and Eve can read him like a book. She gets testy when he goes out with other women, but she hasn’t admitted her true feelings to him to anyone--not even herself.

Aliyah (Liyah)

Liyah is the mother of Coco’s daughter, Letty. Liyah and Coco became parents when they were teenagers, and though they love one another very much, Liyah decided to call things off with him and just co-parent. She’s very fond of Coco’s family, but she doesn’t like how dangerous his life is. She worries about him constantly. Liyah wants to get back with Coco some day, but she isn’t sure he’s matured enough to be both a father and a boyfriend, and she would pick Letty’s happiness and security over hers any day. Coco’s name is tattooed over her heart, and her name is tattooed over his (as is Letty’s, added on her first birthday). Liyah is a dedicated mother and hard worker, and she has always been a kind of safe haven for Coco, something he wanted to protect and provide for. She hasn’t dated anyone since Coco, and she and Coco have hooked up several times since their breakup. She usually has two or three jobs at once while still taking care of Letty, and she is very close to her grandmother, who raised her.

Yaritza (Yaya)

Yaya went to school with Angel, Rio, and Cleo. She and Angel dated, and she always thought they would get married, but he broke up with her. Yaya is a dancer and is in the process of opening up her own dance studio, which prompts her to move back to town. She’s good friends with Cleo, and the two share a townhouse. Now that she’s back in town, Yaya can’t help but notice her feelings for Angel haven’t gone away. In fact, they’ve gotten stronger. She wants him to let her in more, but he still keeps her right on the edge of knowing what he does for a living, and it drives her crazy. As a dancer, Yaya is all about expressing oneself and respecting the arts. She teaches a couple of courses at the local YMCA and Boys and Girls Club, and she does private lessons as well. She has recently gotten out of an abusive relationship, which was one of the reasons she moved home, and she is currently dealing with a perverted, misogynistic property manager in attempts to open up her dance studio.

Cleopatra (Cleo)

Rio and Angel’s best friend since high school, Cleo is loyal and resourceful. She sees Angel like a brother, is close with Spooky, and gets a kick out of Didi. But Rio...she’s hopelessly in love with him. But she’s hesitant to start anything because she knows he isn’t the monogamous type, and she doesn’t want to ruin their friendship. She’s good friends with Yaya, but she and Spooky have an especially close friendship. Cleo is the sole caretaker of her four siblings, one younger cousin, and niece. Her father was shot and killed during a robbery, and her mother is in prison for life after she killed a man who’d attempted to kidnap Cleo’s younger sister. Running a household with 6 dependents, Cleo leans on Rio quite a bit, which he doesn’t mind at all. She wants to work as a counselor, but she hasn’t had the time to pursue her degree. Rio calls her his soulmate, and they flirt almost constantly, but they haven’t done anything about it... yet. There has, however, been some tension between Rio, Cleo, and Spooky lately, which Cleo isn’t sure how to interpret. She is considering asking them to let her in on some of their jobs in an effort to make more money, but she isn’t sure how Spooky--and more importantly, Rio--might react to that request.
