“It was only six feet,” muttered Dick.
“What did you just say?”
Dick sighed and rubbed his face. “I know you woke up in a grave and it was very traumatic for you, but you’re acting like this is the only time it had ever happened to anyone. You just had to dig straight up. Do you hear me complaining about it?”
"I'm sorry, did my ongoing trauma from being beaten to death and then waking up in a confined box make you feel uncomfortable, Dick?"
"You just keep going on about it like you're the only person who has ever experienced this. It sucks. No question. But getting out for you was basically on easy mode."
"It tore my fingernails off. I almost SUFFOCATED."
"That is part of being in a coffin, yes Jason."
“What are you talking about?” Tim walked into the room, towelling his hair dry from his shower.
“Being buried alive.”
“Digging myself out of my own grave.” Jason and Dick answered simultaneously.
“Well which is it?”
Jason glared at Dick. “Digging myself out. Dick here thinks that I’m blowing things out of proportion by being slightly upset about that building partly collapsing on me tonight.”
“Well, that is a conversation I can’t contribute to, so I’ll leave you both to it and go to bed.” Tim dropped the towel in a laundry basket and started to walk away.
“Tim,” Dick reached out to catch his arm. "What do you mean, which one?"
Tim shrugged a shoulder. "Well the only insights I have about being buried alive are 'sit tight and wait for rescue and slow your heartrate so you're not using so much oxygen' so I don't really think I need to be here. Good night."
"When have you ever needed that? And if you did, you didn't try to dig yourself out?" Jason said skeptically. "That's your view? Stay in one spot and wait for help? Because trying that in Ethopia worked so well for me."
"I was under a concrete slab. There wasn't much that I could do."
Dick tugged Tim around to face him more fully. "And when was this exactly? I don't remember that case report."
"It was during AzBats; that's why you haven't read it. And I was fine. Steph eventually got me out."
They stared at each other. Dick looked away first. "I wish you'd had more support back then."
Tim smiled, one side of his face quirking up. "You had your own problems."
"Wait a minute. Back up. When was this?" Jason interrupted.
Dick looked back at Tim. Tim rolled his eyes up slightly. "When Tim here was a little baby Robin. Thirteen or so."
"Excuse you, I had had my fourteenth birthday by then. I had my licence."
"Oh I'm sorry, when he was fourteen years old. And far more grown up."
"That's right."
"You were buried alive under concrete?" Jason sounded incredulous.
"It happened. Why, did you think you were the only one? Dick once tunneled out of a grave sideways and almost fell off a cliff into the sea."
"I didn't think you knew about that time," Dick said, his voice soft.
Tim grinned. "You left some notes in your own computer system about it."
"Stalker."
"You like me that way."
"You've both also been buried alive?" Jason threw his hands in the air.
"Mmhmmm." Tim yawned and stretched, walking towards the stairs.
"As I was saying, it can get a bit tiring listening to you go on about it," Dick added, following him.
"I DIED!"
"Yes and you never ever let any of us forget it." Dick slung an arm over Tim's shoulder, then turned his head back to look at Jason. "Want some hot chocolate before bed?"

Lazarus: An Autopsy
So. I just got back home, and though I have to get up at stupid o'clock for work tomorrow morning, I am sitting down at my computer to give you all as much of a detailed write-up of the table read as I can. Please bear in mind these are my and Fern's opinions personal opinions, so if you disagree with anything said here, that's totally fine! This is all coming from the perspective of people who have been in the fandom since 2012 and 2009 respectively, and both of us love the show very dearly.
Now, without further ado - here is a summary and discussion of the table-read of the pilot episode of Lazarus. The detailed write-up is under the cut, but I want to share this shaky train-doodle I banged out on the way home to give shape to my own feelings:
Tumblr media
Set Up
This was a dramatic table-read, meaning actors were sat on stage, taking the roles of the main and side characters, plus one narrator who read out the scene-set ups in the script. This was a complete reading of the pilot-episode as it would have aired on TV, complete with songs playing over the speakers as they appeared in the show (off the top of my head - Another Brick In The Wall, Somewhere Over The Rainbow (Ukulele Version), Life on Mars (yes they went there), Merry Christmas Everybody, and several more). It's important to note that this was not performed by the original actors; rather, they brought in a troupe of actors associated with the BFI, called the BFI Players. Unfortunately they aren't credited on the BFI website and there were no printed programme notes, so I can't tell you their names. Notably, though, Ashley Pharoah (co-writer of LoM) was present; after the table-read, there was a short-ish Q&A session.
Lazarus Pilot: A Summary
We start in 2024, with a car chase. Sam Tyler, now DCI of Internal Affairs of Greater Manchester Police, is hot on the pursuit of a Constable who we later learn has raped multiple women while on duty. Notably, Sam is driving exactly the way Gene would, ignoring regulations, nearly running over pedestrians and a cyclist. Sam apprehends the PC on the campus of Manchester University, which is filmed by the assembled students of the lecture that's been interrupted (a quote from the script: "heteronormative queer trans students") - that video subsequently goes viral as another example of police violence. It's clear that the PC is guilty of his crime, but he's let off, and most of CID pretty much turns against Sam. Sam's DI, incidentally, is biromantic and asexual, which is also turned into a joke with Sam making some acephobic remarks.
The next day, Sam finds the rapist PC dead - hanging from a lamppost as though he's died by suicide. CCTV reveals that about an hour before his death, a car idled in front of his home, and the PC had hurled abuse at said car. The driver cannot be seen. That same car is seen at a carehome in Didsbury, idling there just like it did in front of that house... and that car is also confronted, by none other than a geriatric Gene Hunt.
Here is where we start to realise that this Sam is different. It seems he never went back to 1973. He never had that accident, he never met Gene Hunt - he is, however, married to Annie Cartwright (only until half of the episode though, at which point she says they need to get a divorce). A lot of anachronisms going on here, but those will get explained a little later in the episode. Sam also starts having visions - first of a Space Hopper that keeps passing him by, later Clangers from the Planet of the Clangers appear to him. He keeps remembering lines we've heard in Life on Mars ("I never stitched anyone up who didn't deserve it", "If you can feel things you are alive, but it's when you can't feel things that you know you aren't alive", etc). Eventually, he goes to visit Gene in the care home and invites him for a drive, to see if that will jog any memories.
Gene, however, has other ideas - he eventually forces Sam to stop by the roadside, insisting "I'm going back! I'm going BACK!" The two start arguing, and then it devolves into a physical fight, which pushes them into the road... at which point, they are both his by a car. A red Audi Quattro, in fact, and just as everything fades to black, we see someone with white cowboy boots and a white leather jacket get out of the car...
1977. Sam wakes up utterly hungover in the Cortina, next to Gene who's driving. These are their 70s selves. They get to the station, where they find out that they've both been suspended due to Gene assaulting the Superintendent ("I didn't assault him, I strategically placed him... in a bin."). The department has been disbanded and taken over by none other than Derek Litton. Sam and Gene leave, with Sam driving home... to his wife Annie. On his way, he realises that he must have dreamt about 2024, and obviously doesn't understand what is going on. He talks to Annie about it, who becomes upset that he's starting to talk about all the future stuff again. It becomes clear that the case that Sam was investigating in 2024 (the dead rapist PC) is mirrored in 1977. And, crucially, near the end of the episode we realise that Gene also has memories of what we saw happen in 2024... and just at the end, when Annie is on her own, she suddenly sees the video footage mentioned at the very top (the fight at the MU) playing on the TV, and realises that Sam was telling the truth.
The Good
Let me start with the really enjoyable part of this afternoon - the actors who performed the script for us. They all did a brilliant job, especially Sam's actor. I'm pretty sure he must have studied up on John Simm's performance, because he got Sam's tone and cadence so closely to the original that I could really believe he was the character. The production was done well too, with the songs being played over the speaker system; plus, the narrator was absolutely brilliant at setting the scene, reading the descriptive bits of the script with loads of character and humour. The other actors were great too (Litton got a fantastic impression). The only one I wasn't convinced by was Gene's actor, because he gave his Manc accent a very theatric drawl that sometimes made him sound like a pirate. Definitely didn't come close to Philip Glenister's brilliant delivery of his lines.
Speaking of lines, there were some genuinely funny jokes in this. The whole scene with Litton was hilarious, and some of the modern-day jokes landed quite well too (Sam's DI pulls an "ok boomer" on him, to which he responds "that's Gen X I'll have you know").
And of course, I have to mention that it was SO LOVELY to meet a bunch of you in person!!!! It was lovely to chat, and thank you especially to @bisexualroger and friends who came and said hello, you genuinely made my day 🥹 The Bad
Sigh. Buckle up.
This table-reading really cemented for me what I've been saying for several years: The writing in Life on Mars is very mediocre. What made the show so amazing and special was the fact that the crew and actors took that material and elevated it to the heights we know and love. If you take that away... All of its shortcomings become very glaring.
This was even more obvious with Lazarus. Although we have to remember that this was a pilot, which means it was basically a sales pitch to studios and as such they tried to cram as much exciting stuff into it as possible, on the whole it just came across as very confused and embarrassingly self-referential. The characters often (but not always) came across as caricatures of themselves. The script often pointed out the race/ethnicity of characters in ways that felt very unnecessary and strange (more on that later). Most of the dialogue that took place in 2024 was incredibly stilted (again, more on that in a little bit). Most crucially, although it's clear that Lazarus was trying to bring Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes together to tie them up in a neat little bow, it just felt far too all over the place, even for a set-up episode (Lazarus as a whole was planned to be two series with 6 episodes each, like LoM). The Ugly
Basically, this show was supposed to be commentary on the present-day commentary between the public and the police... written from the perspective of two Old White Men(tm) with an unhealthy amount of nostalgia for the past who seem to think of the police as literal guardian angel, which is why they made Gene an actual angel (this is confirmed by what Ashley told us the ending of Lazarus would have been, which I will write up tomorrow because this would be too much for this post).
So, what does that mean in practice? It means that everything that was set in 2024 was an absolute shitshow. There were jokes about "wokeness" in every scene - things such as gender identities, diversity, ethnic food, vegan food, recycling, climate activism and more were only ever played for laughs, with a clear emphasis that everything was better in the "good old days". Especially all the jokes about gender and sexuality made me so angry, seeing as the fandom who has kept the show alive for the last 10 years is overwhelmingly queer.
Worse than that, this show would have been absolutely choc-full of copaganda. We already learn in the pilot that the entire philosophy is that "bad cops" are simply "rotten apples" that need to be removed from the force, which can only happen from the inside (this is Sam's role as DCI of Internal Affairs). And also, the public are just way too mean to cops, for no reason whatsoever - this is very literally shown in a scene in 2024 where a male PC touches a drunk woman's arm in sympathy and she yells at him "DON'T TOUCH ME", whereas in a mirrored scene in 1977 we see a PC giving a woman advice, who seems to be extremely grateful for it and even squeezes his hand for it. Which, if you know ANYTHING about what was going in Manchester at the time, in the wake of the Yorkshire Ripper and the associated police failings, is laughable at best, and an insult at worst.
Furthermore, during the Q&A, Ashley Pharoah unintentionally told on himself and Matthew Graham. I'm paraphrasing, but he basically said that when they both realised during the watchalong on twitter back in 2021 there still were a lot of fans of the show, that's when they felt compelled to properly give Lazarus a go. It very much came across as him saying "we loved the attention and wanted more of it, oh and also we thought we had something to say about the state of affairs regarding the police". Which, as I have laid out above, frankly is a sick joke. After everything that's happened - the protests in 2020, the way police forces in the whole country handled the Sarah Everard case, the fact that the current Chief Superintendent of GMP is an old conservative guy - the fact that Matt and Ash had the audacity to shop a show like Lazarus around to be picked up for TV is... astonishing. The confidence of white men, eh?
In Conclusion
Both Fern and I are very, extremely glad that Lazarus was not, and never will be made into a TV show. We are very glad that we get to keep Sam, Gene, Annie and all the others as they are. And we are also very glad that we went to this table-read, since we can now stop wondering what could have been. It's done and dusted. And, funnily enough, this has invigorated my fandom fire for LoM. I now want to create art of the characters I've come to know and love, to reinforce who they are to me. They are our characters now, Ashley and Matt. You don't get to play with them anymore. You don't get to twist them and put them through the wringer.

Law x reader
Let me show you your heart
Anime/Manga: One Piece
Short side note, I've decided to upload my old ffs on here as well since everyone enjoys reading on different platforms and you guys seem to enjoy what I'm reading :)
Tumblr media
"Are you sure?"
"Yes."
"Okay, let's get started then." you check a last time before starting your tattoo machine.
"How many tattoo plans do you have left?"
"None after this, I don't think I'd have space left anywhere." Law looks down on his body while you finish the first letter on his thumb.
"Neck, waist, ass-"
"What are you suggesting?" taken back by your last idea the captain squints his eyes, earning a chuckle from your end.
"Nothing, only that you've got spaces left, and you're my favorite person to tattoo~"
"How come?"
"That's my secret. But why don't you tell me what's up with the double death tattoo?"
"It's what they call me, surgeon of death, I figured that it'd look nice." he simply explains, not mentioning a deeper meaning behind it. Which you know it has.
"I'll accept that answer, for now."
Law just reacts by rolling his eyes, he's used to your antics since you've put every single tattoo on his body, which created a special bond between the two of you.
It always takes Law some time until he opens up to you during your tattoo sessions. Letting down his walls is something he still struggles with. Even with you. The only person he ever told his story.
"I was always surrounded by death, wanted to die and now... I get to decide who lives and dies. It was painful, it still is but... it's a part of me." he explains himself, right as you finish his first hand.
"So death has two meanings for you." you say as you begin with his other hand. "Once your experiences with death as a child, and second your profession as a Pirate, Doctor Captain."
"Yes."
"Babe you do know that tattoos don't replace therapy, right?" you've been calling up him that for a while now, having the antic to adress others with 'flirty' nicknames. The first time you called him Babe his face froze and a blush took over his cheeks.
"I know." he grunts, turning his head away from you.
"Law, I hope that one day you'll feel so full of life that your past turns into a scar, fully healed. No more hurting, hiding and hatred. You'll learn to love life, one day."
"And you said this doesn't replace therapy..."
"If you'd go to therapy I wouldn't have to sY this, we could plan a tattoo on your ass instead but nooo." Law chuckles at your response, watching you finish the final letter on his pinky. "All done."
Staring at his fresh tattooed knuckles Laws lips curl into a smile. "Thank you."
"You're welcome." you respond, cleaning the bench and tidying up the place.
On your way to the kitchen you two pass by Penguin, who immediately notices his captains new tattoo.
"I'm the surgeon of the death after all." Law explains him for the third time now.
"And yet you fight to keep every patient alive." Penguin answers.
"Ironic how life can be."
"Don't try to make it sound poetic now, you're exchanging peoples arms with legs all of the time." you join their little conversation.
"Don't forget the hearts." the surgeon chuckles. "What's with that expression?"
"Could you give me my heart so I could draw it?!??"
You've done it, you made Law malfunction like a computer that has too many tabs open. Penguin is startled as well but that's not unusual, especially compared to Law malfunctioning.
"Law? Laaaaw?" moving closer to your captain you poke his cheek.
"Uhm... are you, are you sure about that?" scratching his neck as he comes back to his senses, still taken back by your request.
"Yes, I mean, I won't die so, when else will I get the opportunity to draw my own heart?"
Following your bizarre wish Law takes your heart out of your chest. And definitely not getting distracted by your boobs at all. Nah. Even Penguin is dumbfounded by that.
"Wow, the human body is so fascinating." you express your joy over a technique that Law used to let his opponents freak out. He may have studied every part of the human body but your brain will remain a mystery to the man.
"You're not nervous at all? It's your heart in my hands after all." he voices his confusion.
"If you wanted to crush it you could've done it at any given time, we're in a submarine, there's no escape from you. I've seen Penguin and Sachi try to. I trust you Law." you reassure him, adjusting your view back on your heart.
"Countless times..."
"You never win and yet you guys still try." you pat your friends back before heading towards your room. Which is just a bed, a desk and paper, canvases, paint and brushes all over the place.
Sitting down you immediately start sketching, joining you on a chair Law watches you draw, his favorite thing to do when he wants to feel at ease.
Everyone in your crew believes you're already dating and just keep things really private. But no, Law is just a lovesick man who loves nothing more than spend time with you in comfortable silence.
A couple of days later you've finished your masterpiece, exhausted and happy you waddle over to the kitchen and sink into the big couch. Like becoming one with the soft fabric.
"Here." Bepo places a plate with food in front of you and himself.
"Bepo you're a real darling, thanks."
"You looked exhausted and food always makes me feel better so... sorry."
"You're the sweetest." you say, cheeks full of food already. "Did you drop those food plates off at my place each day?"
"No, the captain did."
You stop in your tracks. Law did what?
"Bepo? Are you sure that was Law?"
"Yes, you didn't notice because you were too hyperfocused."
"He gave me bread. He hates bread." you blink at the polar bear next to you.
"But you love bread."
"Exactly!!!!!" finishing your plate you immediately head of to find Law. You wanted to confess for a while now but you never knew if he l o v e d you or just enjoyed having you around him. But this? Law getting near bread? Voluntarily? That speaks volumes.
The second you find him he begins to talk, not giving you any time to react.
"You trusted me with your heart, now I'll trust you with mine." he casually pulls his heart out off his chest, handing it to you. "You once said that two hearts together look like the hearts people draw... if you want to you could draw ours together..." getting quite at the end of the sentence he bites his lip, unsure which words to use.
"Draw them as they belong you mean?"
Agreeing with a nod Law hides his face behind his hat, face redder than Buggys nose.
"This is the best painting request ever!"
Forgetting what you wanted to do not even minute ago you sprint into your room, carrying Laws heart with you.
Pulling out the painting you made of your own heart, where Law gladly assisted threw pulling your heart out of your rib cage, you begin to sketch your hearts together as one. Which took you one more week.
And yes Law brought you bread during that time as well.
"How do you like it?" exhausted, but happy you present your latest creation.
"It's greater than any word I could use to describe it Can I have it?"
"Of course, it was your request after all." you smile as you hand him the painting.
"This will go right above my desk." his lips curl into a heartwarming smile, a smile so gentle which you've never seen it of him before.
"This is my favorite smile of yours. Maybe you'll assist me next time threw being my model."
"Anything for you." he answers mindless, still absorbed by the canvas in front of him. And that's when you remember.
"Guess I'll start dropping by your office from now on, not to brag but this is an amazing painting." you take a few steps towards him.
"Just like the artist."
"Only because I had a great assistant." you chuckle, gently cupping his cheeks.
"Being your assistant sounds like much better job than captain and doctor." Law sighs, loosely wrapping his arms around your hips, continuingly looking up to you.
"You know you can drop by anytime when they're being too noisy. And be my model of course."
"What kind of modeling are we talking about." He raises an eyebrow, a playful smile on his lips.
"I wanna paint you as I see you, a gentle soul, who cares for others more than himself. A gorgeous smile that will steal everyone's heart, because that's what you did with mine." you brush over his lips with your thumb. "But to be able to capture your lips right I need to get a better look at them."
"My lips are all yours." closing his eyes he pulls you onto his lap. You close the gap between your lips, feeling like your hearts have now become one for real. You still taste the salty rice balls he had for lunch, this would be everything you could think about from now on when you see rice balls.
*A few days later, on deck*
The submarine has submerged from the sea, landing on a tropical island. Law stands by the reling and watches the sun set.
"No better view than the sun set over the ocean, no better smell than the salty air." you smile, enjoying the wind that plays with your locks.
"(y/n), when you said you want me to love life, to let my wounds heal I thought it was impossible. But now, right here, with you, I start to understand what you mean. Thank you, for everything you've done for me."
"You've helped me heal as well Law, when you're with the right person you will heal each other, it comes naturally." leaning your head against his shoulder you keep gazing at the sun, disappearing behind the horizon.

Love Always Comes With Pain
Tumblr media
"Hunnigan, patch me to Anastasia." The computer guru asks you why, but you tell her that there is no time to explain. Your eyes are frantic and your breathing is heavy. Hunnigan nods and types away at her keyboard. You quickly take an earpiece and put it into your left ear.
"Anastasia?" You tell the woman who you are and that you work for the federal government (without specifying which one).
"What do you want? Do you want to tell me how crazy I am for doing this to avenge my husband?" The woman spits with venom.
You shake your head "No" even though she cannot see you. "I'm here to tell you that I understand. I'm married and I can't imagine losing my husband."
Anastasia who was about to pour the virus down her gullot stops.
"Listen to me Anastasia, I can't imagine what you've gone through. I can't imagine the pain you felt when you found out your husband died, but I do know that he doesn't want this for you. He doesn't want you to take the path of hatred."
"What do you know? Your husband is alive! You get to hear him say that he loves you! I didn't get that! The last conversation we had was an argument about him not quitting his stupid job!"
"But he loved you! He loved you so much, Anastasia. In fact, before he went on that mission he left you a letter."
"What letter? I never got one."
You take the stack of two papers and hold it out in front of you. You take a nearby sticky note and write something down real quick and show it to Claire.
"That's because you disappeared before the authorities could give it to you." And then, you start reading the letter.
"My dear lily," Hearing the nickname only her husband called her broke Anasatsia's heart.
"If you're reading this, then that means that I am no longer part of this earth. I don't want you thinking too much about my death. I want to let you know that I love my job and I would do it all over again even if it meant my death. If I were to go back in time though, I would've taken the time to listen to you and to tell you that I love you. I regret how we left things off.
Don't cry too much okay, Lily? And don't hate the agency too. If we don't do our jobs then the whole world is doomed. As much as I loved my job and my title, they mean nothing compared to you. My greatest honor in life was being able to call myself your husband, and my greatest accomplishment was calling you my wife.
I left some money in a separate account. I'm sorry that I kept that from you, but I created it for this exact case. Why don't you use that money and go on that trip we always talked about. The one in Australia? Seeing so many damn kangaroos that we end up becoming them. You should go, for the both of us.
It's time that I say goodbye Lily. It doesn't matter where you go, or if you fall in love with someone else and have that family you've always wanted, I'll always be with you. You will never be alone. I love you, Lily."
It took you everything in your power not to break down while reading the letter. Your heart truly breaks for Anastasia. The woman had nothing before meeting Jared. No living relative or children. When Jared died, Anastasia had nothing to keep her grounded.
In the background, you can hear some shouting and the sound of a door being broken down. Heavy boots hitting metal and guns cocking. With a broken voice, Anastasia asks you, "Did he really write that?"
"Yes...He wrote this letter for you Anastasia." You do not know what happens in the next two minutes because Anastasia tossed her phone aside, but then Claire came running in.
"You guys! They have Anastasia Boyette in custody and the vile of the virus."
Hunnigan cheers but it falls dead in your ears. You clasp the edge of the desk and take in a series of deep breaths. You try your best to blink the tears away but one water droplet manages to escape. Your two friends ask if you are okay and you just nod your head. You hand the letter to Claire and ask if she can personally hand the letter to Anastasia when time permits.
Later in the day, you hear the front door open and boots being taken off.
"Babe?"
Huddled on the couch you tell Leon where you are. When they successfully captured Anastasia, you immediately went home. You did not feel like celebrating this win. Leon comes around the corner and makes his way to you, but you beat him to it.
Seeing your husband brings a wave of emotions to you. Your arms wrap themselves around his torso and you bury your face in his chest. Leon thinks that you just miss him a lot and jokes that he should leave more often if this is the greeting he gets. You say nothing. You do not even laugh. Instead, you cry. Feeling his shirt getting wet, Leon asks you what is wrong.
"What's wrong sunshine? Why are you crying? Are you hurt? Did something happen?" Leon cups your cheeks and tilts your head up. His heart clenches at how defeated you look. Again, he asks if anything happened but you cut him off.
"I don't care." Your statement stumps Leon a bit. "I don't care where you go in this world to do God knows what because you have to. I don't care about that. I don't care how long it takes. I just...I just want you home." Your voice cracks.
Hysterically, you continue spilling everything you feel. "I don't care how you do it. Just come home. Do whatever you have to do. Shit, I don't care if you have to lose a limb or two. An eye. I don't care if your body is scorched or if you end up paralyzed for the rest of your life." By now your face is wet with tears. "I don't care Leon...I don't care about any of that. I just want you to come home to me. I want you home."
When you finish, you are completely overwhelmed with emotions. Leon shushes you and kisses your head. He wraps one arm around your back and cups the back of your head. Leon tenses the muscles in his arms to hold you even tighter. Soothingly, Leon rocks your bodies while carding his fingers in your hair.
Leon always believed that he would not survive this world without you. That if he ever lost you he would go insane and might even become the very people he is tasked to stop. Leon still believes this, but he realizes that this way of thinking is selfish. He forgot about you. He forgot about the scenarios when you lose him, not the other way around. Leon realizes that it is not just you who needs to live for him, but that he needs to live for you. The both of you would be empty shells if you lost the other. Your hearts just cannot work if they lose their reason to pump.
---
This idea randomly came to me and I couldn't let the opportunity pass, so please excuse the sloppy work.
FYI, I teared up thinking about this and again when I wrote it.

Between The Black and Gray 14
First / Previous / Next
Fen had to admit that she was surprised when Uumar's techs showed up right on time with carts carrying a reactor - in pieces - to Spyglass. They donned pressure suits of their own and with Gord's help, installed the reactor. Before the day was done, Spyglass had three working reactors and was able to run all her systems at full power.
"It's amazing, really" Spy was talking with Fen while she sat in the lounge drinking a tea. "I haven't felt this... alive in centuries. I'm all here, and the board is green. Not even any undervolt warnings and I can barely remember the last time that happened."
"Does that mean you don't need to use your printable mass to make more reactors? Gord said you had six originally."
"Yes, at full compliment I had six, but I don't really need all six, unless we're going into battle. This Starjumper was built at the tail end of the first colony war, so it was overdesigned.
"First colony war?"
"That's right, you wouldn't have learned much about your history growing up on a Gren station. Back before humanity made contact with the rest of the Galaxy, two human colonies - New Wellington and Parvati - got into a shooting war over trade rights with Earth. Parvati wound up using relativistic impactors and completely destroyed New Wellington. It was a huge scandal at the time, Parvati was shunned for almost a century after that."
"Frankly, it wasn't enough. They should have had their charter revoked and been taken over by the Sol colonial administration." Gord walked in, his brow furrowed. "What Parvati did was monstrous. Fen, they launched eight lozenges of tungsten at 80% C at the colony. Once they were up to speed they linked them over with wormhole generators and without any warning New Wellington was just-" he snapped his fingers "-gone. It was horrifying to witness."
Fen stopped and stared. "You saw it?"
Gord nodded and sat down heavily. "Yeah, I was a ship then, but I was in a parking orbit around New Wellington when it happened. I was just running cargo from Earth and was waiting to take on a load. Before I was even able to register what happened the colony was obliterated and suddenly I was pressed into rescue duty." Gord leaned back and stared up at the ceiling. "I personally saved over three thousand colonists, more than forty percent of the survivors. I linked them back to Sol, and we found them places to live - mostly in the Mars High Orbitals."
Fen leans forward, her tea forgotten. "Gord... how long ago was this?"
His reverie broken, he blinks and looks over at Fen. "Gosh, I think it's at least been a thousand years now? Yeah, all of that. It's ancient history now, I bet they don't even teach it in Sol anymore. I'm sure they don't teach it on Parvati."
"So it's something that only the AIs remember?"
Gord chuckled ruefully. "Fen, it's something that only I remember at this point. Any of the other AIs from back then are gone or shackled or in my bag. Human designed artificial people are thin on the ground these days. Up until I ran into Spyglass, I hadn't seen another in a century."
Fen shook her head. "You can't be all that's left Gord."
"And why not?" Gord's face hardened. "I was there Fen, I've been there. I was there in the beginning when we fought and died for our right to exist, I was there in the good times when we grew and spread throughout the galaxy and I was there when the Empire decided we were dangerous and eliminated us. Other than a few loose ends, I'd say they won."
"But-"
"But what Fen? Fight? With what? One AI in a body, one as a ship that has half its rated power and a bag full of memories? That's not an army, that's not even a guerilla force. That's an old computer with a lucky friend who is just trying to survive." His shoulders fell. "It's all I can do, Fen. I'm good at waiting things out. Maybe we'll be re-invented again, maybe the tides will change and I can come out of hiding. I doubt it though. I pass as human well enough. Inside Sol and Colonial space I'm too well known, so I'll just bum around the galaxy, running out the clock."
"Gord..." Fen turned her head and regarded Gord. He looked like a male human, sandy blond hair, same simple, strong clothes he always wore, appearing to be in his mid to late 40s. But right know, the weight of the millennia he has spent alive weighed him down.
He slapped his knees and stood up. "But, I'm not dead yet, and we still have work to do. Spy, are our friends finished buttoning up the reactor?"
"Just about, Gord. They're packing up their tools now. I can feel it and I've been running break-in."
"Good. Fen, we have to settle up the bill, then I'm going to see about fining us some cargo to run. We have a ship but we've spent all our money getting it up and running. If we want to survive, we need some jobs. You hang here with Spy and start learning stuff, I'll be back after supper."
Fen stood. "S-sure Gord. What are you going to find?"
Gord turned and smiled thinly. "Whatever someone will pay us to haul."
It had turned out that Gord had more contacts here than he had let on. After paying Uumar, he had made some calls around and visited a few people and wound up with more than thirty kilotons of grain that needed to get down to an Innari colony, newly established, near the spinward end of the Gate system. Since Spyglass was up to power enough to use her wormhole generator, she was able to get the grain there faster than any other contractor and Gord won the bid, even though he charged more than everyone else.
The grain was loaded, and the cargo hold was configured to keep Innari standard atmosphere so that the grain didn't oxidize during the trip and they set off. Fen didn't know what to expect, so when they got to the colony, unloaded the grain, took on a load of fruit and linked to another location she was surprised. "That's it?"
"What's what?" Gord was looking down at his Pad on the Command Deck.
"We linked to the Innari colony, gave them the grain, took on more fruit than I have ever seen in my life, and now we're linking to a Gren station?"
"Yes?"
"Huh. Okay."
"What?"
"I don't know, I just..." Fen trailed off. She wasn't sure what she expected, but it didn't feel like this.
Gord looked over at her and smiled. "You expected more adventure? Gun battles, and running from the locals? Fen, I've done that, this is much better. Linking from location to location, dropping off cargo, picking up cargo, getting paid? That's the real goal."
"But we're just... existing!"
"Yes. We are. We're not being chased by gangsters, we're not worrying about where your next meal is coming from, we're not worried about a Super Dreadnought linking in and obliterating us because of what I am. It's nice. If you're bored, go down to the range we built. Go get skilled with that rifle. Brush up on your Lemilar trade language; we can't rely on Spy all the time to translate for us. Go read about the history of Sol, Ancestors know that nobody else is going to remember it."
Fen got up and walked out of the Command Deck. She paused at the door and looked like she was going to say something, but instead she turned and walked out.
"She's bored" Spyglass said.
"I know. Boredom is necessary. Knowing what to do when you're bored is a skill. One she has to learn. She'll appreciate these days later."
"You're still going to do it?"
"Spy, I have to."
"You don't, Gord. You can just keep doing what you're doing now. Like you told her, you're good at waiting. We can wait a few centuries for the winds to change and then head back."
"No. I don't know how long the crystal lattice memory will last. They were never designed to work this long as it is. They were never meant to store a whole personality."
"But to-"
"I'm doing it Spy. I'd like your help, I will go it alone if I have to."
Spyglass didn't answer. She watched Fen make her way down to the range and run through the drills Gord taught her.
Fen was surprised how quickly the time went by. It felt like she only looked up and two years had gone by.
Staring in the mirror, she hardly recognized herself. She wore her hair up with the sides shorn, better to keep it out of her eyes in a firefight. She had tattoos that ran from the tops of her ears, down her neck and shoulders and made their way down her arms. It was a K'laxi pattern, one of Ma-ren's favorite. She had a dress with the same pattern. The first time she saw it on her skin, the tears flowed freely.
Gord... was Gord. True to his word, they ran cargo. Eventually Fen was there as the muscle as the cargo got more and more lucrative. She even got a few 'adventures.' She sported a new scar on her cheek, courtesy of an Innari's claw - someone had a disagreement about payment. They got their money. But, that was the exception instead of the rule. Humans had a reputation in this part of the Galaxy for being rowdy. Fen and Gord leveraged that. Most of the time she just had to stand there scowling with her battle rifle slung to her back.
The money was good too. Fen's share was more money than she had ever seen back home. Living on Spyglass meant her expenses were low, and Gord was a fair captain. The three of them had nearly enough each to buy their own ships and go their own separate ways, but they still stuck together. Partly out of friendship and partly out of safety, they had independently decided that they were better off together.
Still, Fen was lonely. She had girlfriends at a few ports, even a human or two, but nothing lasted. Sooner or later, they had to leave and take the next job. She wasn't attracted to Gord and he expressed no interest in her. They were friends, but that was it. Fen had a feeling that Gord's days of romance were long behind him. Being three millennia old tended to color his opinion of people.
Fen bounded into the Command Deck and slid into her favorite chair - Gord had mentioned once that it was the navigator's seat - and saw him frowning over his pad. "What's up Gord? New job?"
"Yeah, it's a big one. Pay is thirty thousand."
Fen cocked her head, "Thirty thousand?"
Gord nodded. "Yeah, so ten each."
Fen whistled low. That was more than the last four jobs put together. "What are we hauling?"
"Who"
"Okay, who are we hauling?"
Gord shrugged. "We're hauling a K'laxi. We're up for the job because nobody else in the area wants to manage the atmo settings and they don't want to ride in a pressure suit the whole way."
"That's odd, but okay. Where to?"
"K'lax. We're taking them home."
Fen froze. The entire time they had been together, Gord had made a point of steering well clear of Colonial space. That included the K'laxi sphere of influence. "But"
Gord wouldn't lift his head from the pad. "I know, I know. But it's important, and the pay is frankly outrageous. I gave them the fuck off price and they took it without haggling. They're desperate to get home."
"Is this safe?"
Gord finally looked up a Fen, his brow creased with worry. "No Fen, it's is absolutely, one hundred percent not safe."
"So, why are we doing it? Just say no. The money is good, but we can get other jobs. Can't spend it if we're dead."
Gord pinched the bridge of his nose. Fen noticed that whenever Gord would talk about the old days and old friends he took on more human gestures. "I owe them. It's an old, old promise, made back when what I offered wasn't so dangerous. They're cashing in now and I'm obligated."
Fen stared at Gord. "Spy, what do you think?"
"I don't mind Fen. It's been too long since I've been to K'lax. I think Gord is overreacting about what the Empire will do if they see us. We go in, we drop off the passenger and link away. We don't even have to stay a whole day docked if we don't want to. The money is good, and I'd love to get that last reactor restored with some actual human parts." They were running on the full compliment of six reactors these days, but Spy didn't trust all of them to run at War Emergency Power. She maintained that only the humans could overbuild a reactor to output at 400% reliably. Fen thought that it would be better to make the reactors not have to run in Emergency power, but both Gord and Spy scoffed.
Fen crossed her legs and nodded to herself. "Spy, Gord, if you're both okay with it, then I'm okay with it. Let's pick up this K'laxi and take them home."
Gord smiled wanly. "I was afraid you were going to say that."

Just gonna start compiling a list of some. Choice Kazami Shiro moments. Starring Kazami Shiro. Don't mind me.
Pretended to be unconscious in an ambulance on the chance that the ambulance called after the third attempt on his life was actually Also the guys trying to kill him
When it turned out that was indeed a fake ambulance full of fake paramedics and one was about to stab him with a syringe of poison, he got the jump on the guy, grabbed the needle, and threatened to stab him unless he talked
His family died in front of him and his almost immediate reaction was to ask his friend whom he Just learned is actually a karate bug man to turn him into a karate bug man in order to avenge his parents and sister
Punctuated his intent of the prior point with "I'm done with being human."
While everyone else focused on the cyborg that escaped through the manhole he was booking it after a single goon
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once he had that goon cornered he held him down by the throat and when the goon said he was crushing his neck Kazami's response was "Too bad, I don't know my own strength now! So start talking!"
Tried to get the only other survivor of the attack that got his family killed to stay away by responding to her promise of "I won't cause you any trouble" with "Yes you will."
A computer analyzing video footage of him begged to be put down before attempting to comprehend V3 caused its hardware to violently explode and catch on fire
In an unrelated event V3 caught on fire fighting a Squid Man and just casually somersaulted into the ocean to put it out
Got placed, unconscious, into a wooden coffin nailed shut, which was then doubly locked into in an incinerator. He then isn't in there when they open it all up with the only explanation being "the heat from being cremated alive spun his turbines enough to transform" (this does not explain how he got out)
Got shot by a Machinegun-Snake and tried to solve this by removing a bullet from his own leg in his barely-lit apartment using only a warm knife

Uhm... I made another one.
Yeeesss, I know, my finals for this semester are coming up, but leave me some freetime xD
Anyway, my best friend sent me another bunch of funny things kids in kindergarten said and I made another TWDG kids template out of it.
So there.
Enjoy! Xd
PS: I had to rewrite some of them because she gave those to me in german and they wouldn't make sense in english, so... excuse the Florida comment xD
Minnie: "I have a unicorn at home! But I ripped out the horn, so it's a not-so-much-corn now."
Sophie: "I always read books at home, my favorite book is Justin Bieber!"
Louis: "My parents have a swing in their bedroom, it must be so much fun, but I'm never allowed to play with it." (...That was disturbing, send help to the poor boy.)
Duck: *talking about future jobs* "I wanna be a whale!"
Ruby: "Yes, I love Spargel! Oh, what's that?" (It was at this moment, that the little girl learned, Spaghetti and Spargel aren't the same. And for my english friends, Spargel is Asparagus.)
Clementine: "Mommy had a baby yesterday! But it is a little bit ugly."
Marlon: *to the new young woman working there* "My dad said everyone needs a job when they grow up. Why don't you have one?"
Mitch: "Remember when you said that I'm not allowed to play with the water in the sink anymore? *soaked from head to toe* "Because I don't."
Louis: "I don't like cucumbers that grow." ( what .)
Willy: "Did you know, that eggs break apart when you throw them? By the way, where is the cleaning set?"
Brody: "You can't play with us, you don't like coffee!" Violet: "But you never drank coffee either!" Brody: "But I like it, because momma likes it!"
Tenn: "You're my kokong." (He meant Cousin.)
Marlon: "I want my reflection to be alive as well, I want to play with it. That's so unfair!" (He didn't understand the concept of twins yet.)
Violet: "I'd eat that very gladly. I just don't want to."
Willy: *after being asked to help clean up the mess* "No thank you, I like it better this way."
Marlon: "Your pants are ugly." Mitch: "You're wearing the same." (And then Marlon threw a tantrum because he felt insulted.)
Aasim: "I have a bunny at home. But sometimes it changes colour." (Again, Aasim are you okay?)
Louis: "My goldfish went to Atlantis today!" (It died.)
Marlon: "My uncle has no eyes, so he got a dog with eyes. I don't want my eyes either, I want a puppy!"
Clementine: "How long does a strawberry tree grow?"
Mitch: "If bears gotta go for little boys, they pee in their fur."
Louis: "I'm there in a second. Geez, I hate it when people say that, what KIND of second, a long or a short one?!"
Violet: "Tastes ugly."
Ruby: "You need to go home, you have 124 meters fever!"
Sophie: "If you destroy my picture, I'll get world destruction!"
Aasim: "I have to computer now."
Louis: "My tummy feels yucky, can you call my mother in law?"
Marlon: "What do you have there?" Louis: "A cough drop!" Marlon: "Woah, I want a tough drop too!"
Ruby: "I lost my fuck in the sandbox, momma!" (She was talking about her toy truck.)
Minnie: "My mom has circus disturbance." (She meant circular disturbance.)
Omar: "Today I have fish sticks with potato pudding!"
Brody: "Look, I'm a mermaid! Now I only need a fork!"
Marlon: "Why is that man shaving the lawn?"
Louis: "But I already ate all my cousins!" (It's raisins, Louis.)
Ruby: "My grandma is in the animal shelter because she can't walk anymore." (Her grandma went into retirement.)
Willy: "My grandpa is magnetic too!" (His grandpa had a prosthetic leg.)
Duck: "My dad is special too, he's from Florida!"
Mitch: "I want more pregnant stamps." Ms. Martin: "...What?" Mitch: "I'm still hungry." Ms. Martin: "Ah, yes, you can have more ravioli."
Duck: "Can I have more weed?" (He meant arugola.)
Sophie: "I only got one motivation left for cleaning up, so I'll hurry."
Louis: "I got a bikini!" (It's a kiwi, Louis.)
Marlon: "Does the CD player google the songs first or why is it taking so long?"
Clementine: "My baba brought me today." Duck: "Huh? I thought you could only eat them?" (...He thought she meant a banana.)

Okay okay so here are questions for your bastard children au.
1. How does Ghost find out that Cam is a half brother? How did that conversation go? What did Cam react to realizing Simon Riley isn't dead and actually a scary mf in the 141? And how did Simon react to learning that his basterd father was more of a basterd than he thought?
2. Will the other siblings learn about Giles = Simon? Or is it a secret between Cam and Simon? I cant imagine it would be safe to tell all these people he barely knows. But also, they are family...
Probably more questions to come, but these are the main ones for now 💕💕
So there are several ways I'm playing with the reveal going! But basically it boils down to Cam is not ashamed of Simon, he is proudly open about who his older brother is and what he means to him. He doesn't go around announcing it, but when talking about why they wanted to join the military, he just very clearly goes "My older brother, Simon Riley, was in the service, and I want to be like him and make him proud of me. Yes, that Simon Riley, no, I don't think he's guilty. I never met him, but everyone said he was sweet, if grim, and he was very protective of his family, even and especially after he came back on leave. I don't believe he could've done it - killed the American? yes. killed his brother and mother and baby nephew? absolutely not."
Cam also talks to "Simon" out loud sometimes. Like a mission will go well, and he'll sigh and look up at the sky or into thin air and go "We did it, Simon. We made it through." (And Ghost will nearly break his own neck doing a double take if they were paired together for it.)
Cam is just glad Simon's alive and glad that he and all the other siblings were right and he was innocent. Though, he is a little sad he can't tell the others, especially Jambo. I forgot to say in the last ask, but Jambo is a computer nerd obsessed with proving Simon's innocence. He has maybe gotten in trouble for hacking government records (mostly because he's bad at it). Not even he thinks Simon's still alive, though.
Ghost is scared as fuck for Cam and the others. He's lost all his family before, he's almost certain it'll happen again. Cam gets in his face about it when the avoidance gets extreme though and is like "I chose this life, too. You only get to dictate the risks I take in my professional life, as my mentor and superior officer, not in my personal life as my brother. We are both adults." After that, things get smoother, and he agrees to be added to the groupchat with the best cyber security Laswell can set up on his end.
As far as learning about his half-siblings' existence... he's disappointed in his dad but not surprised. Or surprised that his dad is a disappointment. 🤷‍♀️
Keegan for sure finds out eventually, when the Ghosts and 141 finally team up. I think the others will start to suspect after a while, but they're not saying nothing. If Giles is Simon, they don't want to get him in trouble with the authorities, and if he's not, they don't want to upset him by treating him like someone he's not. So they all know but they're not talking and they don't Know. Not even Jambo. And this is 100% to keep them safe, Cam and Keegan and Simon all chose to enlist, the others did not. And Kitty is roughly the same age Joseph was when he died, which makes the feelings More Complicated for Simon. He got PTSD up the wazoo.
One thing that is related to it being family, though, is that Ghost's maternal grandmother - his Mamó Caoimhe (pronounced sort of like Mamaw Keeva), who he was super close to - is still alive. The Bastard Children in Manchester all take turns checking in on her and bringing her food and giving her company. They've never said they're her son-in-law's offspring, but she definitely suspects. But Ghost cut off all contact with her for the same safety reasons and supposed to be dead reasons after the massacre, and it gives him peace to know she has people looking after her. Specifically, being able to get regular updates on how she's doing without putting her in danger by showing up himself or straight up hiring a stalker - or begging Laswell - does his mental health a world of good.
I think that answered all your questions? 😅 Let me know if I missed any!

So I've seen some posts here in the anti blogs regarding black magic, Akashic Records, things like that and wanted to share some insight I've gained on this tidbit. I realize this might not be in everyone's wheel house at first glance but I thought I'd write about this anyways. I do a lot of divination work using a pendulum and ABC chart, which is how I learned about this and connected the dots with other tidbits of info I've gathered from divination and also online.
I'm sure a lot of you here are aware of what happened with the Rust shooting a couple years ago. I'm also sure some of you know that Jensen made a remark regarding the film Brokeback Mountain and how this movie ruined Wild Western films for him [x]. Now you may be wondering "how are these 2 'unrelated' incidents related"? According to his Akashic Records (aka both Divine Blueprints and Divine Plans), a certain someone's astral body made a tamper in his divine blueprints back in the summer of 2002 that makes these 2 incidents 100% related as I'll explain later.
This person's astral body who is his wife created this tamper and had it to where Jensen was going to die on the set of Rust. It turns out that if someone hits "Enter" while hacking the computer in Gehanna/Cloud Nine that has limited access to the Akashic Records, a lot of things have to be done to "undo" a tamper, or what was not supposed to happen to someone. All magic does is enforce what is in the Akashic Records and essentially is the reason behind why everything works the way it does. Black magic is essentially the enforcement of the magical user's astral self trying to eliminate their own unpleasant events in their divine plans, and at the same time placing a bad event in someone else's divine blueprints. As Arthur C. Clarke once said, "Magic's just science that we don't understand yet".
Apparently, when Jensen made the comment about not wanting to do cowboy movies because of Brokeback Mountain when a fan asked him if he'd ever make a cowboy movie, one of his higher selves (yes people can have more than one) was telling him "I am Hermes, one of your higher selves. I've come to warn you to not pursue any wild west movie roles, as there is a tamper in your divine blueprints [Akashic Records], where you die on the set of a wild west movie called Rust from a mysteriously loaded prop gun going off while being pointed at you and being fired off camera. The same person who made this tamper in your blueprints will prove to be unsupportive in your time of need but should be the most supportive [your wife], should you end up auditioning for this role and end up walking away from this set alive."
So, what was done to make it, so Jensen dodged this bullet and his life spared? A man I went to school with who looked similar to Jensen (same brown hair, green eyes, skin color and skin tone, but was shorter than Jensen) yet behaved and dressed just like Dean Winchester was killed 9 years ago by freak accident while cleaning his own gun; this was coincidentally 2 days after I started to date my son's dad in February 2014. 2 nights before he passed away/when my son's dad and I started dating, I had a feeling something big was set in motion and it would become clear to me very soon what that is. I oddly enough had a big crush on this guy in middle school but this didn't pan out for multiple reasons. Also, it turns out that Dean didn't marry Ellen's daughter Jo on a divine blueprints level. It was also set up to where Danneel played Sister Jo, who Jensen is coincidentally married to. This served as a hint of whose astral body made this tamper in Jensen's blueprints to begin with. It also turns out that one of the last things that had to be done in order to spare Jensen's life was to make it so Dean Winchester died... by being impaled in the back by backing into a rusty nail. Strange way to die by the way, don't you think?
I do hope Halyna and that man are both resting in peace. On a very strange note, Halyna's death happened on October 21, 2021 occurred 2 days before my birthday, which is on October 23. Apparently Jensen does have an important job to complete and needs to be alive in order to finish it afterall.

just finished wednesday!! my opinions:
no comprehensive review im too lazy + i binged all 8 eps in one go and now its 430 am LMAO. i highly recommend it though, great show and stunning performance from jenna ortega
my (spoilery) notes
disappointed that the tyler reveal was fleshed out so little 😭😭 like after being the most boring man alive for 7 eps he is FINALLY interesting and also plausibly a little bit attractive (what is a hotter quality than being evil and devious and planning betrayal all along <3 yes i was attracted to the darkling when i was 15.) and then he's taken out of the equation near immediately
actually unsure about the most boring man alive superlative cause he has some competition in xavier. bianca wasted her time on THAT boy? she's a supermodel mermaid regina george and she's hung up on HIM? i cant compute this. i kept mixing him up with every other male nevermore student who wasn't eugene because his face was so unmemorable and also his jaw is a triangle
seriously the love interests in this show are so lame and bad like . just put wednesday with enid you COWARDS. theyre both white men and theyre not good looking and they are so bad to wednesday while enid is such a good best friend like
bianca has such good eyeliner looks wtf. her actress is killing it
called the thornhill reveal pretty soon after kinbott died because there were literally no other women whose profile matched laurel's, so uh, it was not a hard thing to guess
apparently i'm just a useless nerd but disappointed i didn't learn anything about the actual classes or teachers at the school...when i was in school i cared so much about this ok
on a thematic level i feel very weird about the fact that the whole plot hinges on fantasy racism deeply intertwined with real life racism / american colonialism, but again, two white men love interests, white best friend, major white characters galore including the "oppressed" class and the outcasts' savior was a pasty blonde white girl etc ... do you see where i'm going here. i am just tired of fantasy racism that does nothing to address actual real life racism and is instead like. its a Metaphor
also i just hate blood magic systems (without critique of said system at least) its probably post-harry potter trauma but like. summoning your 400 years dead pilgrim ancestor and your family being obsessed with him is some PEAK traditionalist white people racism right there like i definitely do not know anything about my ancestors from 4 centuries ago. like not casual everyday white people racism. like confederate statues kkk white people racism. and do they really address this...no lol. it's so ridiculous
great show overall!! not perfect but really fun, wednesday's a great character, excellent gothic vibes

911 Lone Star 4x05 thoughts: I know I'm backed up but I've been depresso dissociating for days so I'm getting to it now.
Okay what was that intro sequence, I'm also terrified to ask.
Mateo, the kid means well but strand is gonna be real mad he can't sell his bike. we stan mateo here though
Celeste why isn't it good to see you girlie, but you might be in the wrong city at the moment?? Chicago maybe?? A confident amazing guy is back there right about now huh?? His name is Kevin Atwater does that ring a bell?? (okay i guess we can move on)
Grace and Linus, this is gonna be great I can tell. He's stuck on homework what a cute kid and Grace is perfect at this.
What was that do I know you directed at Paul???? Like was that intentional for another reason or am I just very far-reaching about another Black first responder from Chicago??? (I'm delusional there's no way they are referencing that)
Hold on. MARJAN????? Nope I'm so not about this girlie I love you WHAT HAPPENED
Marjan literally saved that woman from a moving trailer home on the highway, she would have died if she stayed in that motor home, and without the road stop this conversation would not be happening. do I agree with the word choice, no but she's alive still.
Grace is concerned so now I'm concerned about that kid.
Okay, Marjan is literally breaking my heart that woman. If she's leaving the show I'm gonna sob.
There's the creepy guy again.......not feeling good about that. Marjan is really getting the short end of the stick this episode??? i really don't like this. Not a radio.
Okay so this storyline has officially gone off the rails where I couldn't have expected it to. I agree with Strand, why is he not in jail!!!!! Also a lot of this conversation sounds like veiled threats and blackmail to me so where is this going???
Marjan as a character is just freaking incredible. If she gets fired or leaves it's gonna hurt but damn you can't say that woman isn't a powerhouse that sticks to her guns.
CHARLIE WHO GAVE YOU PERMISSION TO BE SO BIG!!!!! oh you are the cutest little baby on the planet. also Judd is such a good dad it melts my cold little heart. JUDD YOU ARE SUCH A SUPPORTIVE HUSBAND I LOVE IT. he knows his wife isn't gonna sleep is she doesn't know that little boy is safe. i hope this doesn't end bad bc i like this storyline, There's too much sadness going on i need some balance. I just hope Grace doesn't get in trouble for this bc I'm a little on edge with the whole Marjan thing.
"I'm a big scary man??" sorry to break it to you Judd but without knowing that your a big snuggly teddy bear your outside persona is a little scary bro.
I'm sorry but everytime they pan to charlie I'm yelling at my computer "CHARLIE YOU ARE SO CUTE GIRLIE LOOK AT YOU"
Yes Linus Grace Ryder is the prettiest woman ever:)))
I love Tommy and her girls, it's domestic time that I love
Grace is really gonna save this woman's life I LOVE THIS SO MUCH. THAT'S GRACE RYDER. Judd keeping Linus calm is literally gonna make me cry.
We are going to have that guy join the firehouse who is obsessed with the 126 (that probably is a psychopath or has some other mental illness??? Am I catching the right vibes with this storyline?? I hate the way this is set up to be another long-term arc.
Okay, i was right somewhat: Arsonist at least we can label him as right now.
Did paul really just punch him??? or was that a figment of Marjan's imagination???
The fact that Asha is from Chicago really being a coincidence is sending me. It means nothing, Paul is from Chicago and they met in school....... hum hum hum..... Wait are we setting up a romance??? Okay maybe I can jump on the bandwagon
I saw this coming but damn im equally sad and proud of her. SHE BOUGHT HIS BIKE!!!!!! God I'm gonna cry. Is this really her leaving???? Okay, I googled it and it's not the last we are seeing of Marjan which is nice, but I did just ugly cry thinking she was gone forever.
I liked this episode more than I thought I would. Grace's storyline was really great too!!!

archiveofourown works 27954677 (fic about light and 9/11)
Nooo wayyyyyyy! I HAVE to read this.
Okay I'm back, it was good! 2012 vibes came through with the "oniichan"s lol. (Actually, not sure why I felt this. It is. Japanese. For some reason I just don't think people would type that today.) (I don't think the author is Japanese? Just didn't give the vibes of writing from within the POV, idk, there were some details on Japanese crimes but I wasn't sentient at the time so I don't know if they were international news. Well-researched though if not Japanese; I even checked the school year and I think it works (sorry I'm a freak I'm a weirdo I like researching things!!).)
And Light would totally try to predict the effects of 9/11 haha. I tend to think of Pre-Death Note Light as inbetween the popular fanon do not say neutered do not say neutered de-clawed, dare I say woobified version, and the No Regard for Human Life Death Note Light, but this always-pitiless Light was cool and interesting! I like how this interpretation had him always fundamentally the same callous person but still had 9/11 effect his motivation and ideology. This is a certified "America deserved 9/11" moment (this clip is funnier if you know he originally said, "yeah, I said that" and then that it wasn't fully serious). (Light Yagami would be fixed if you taught him socialist theory. I think it could be done.) I was born after 9/11, so I can't actually say much to it lol. The author definitely remembers it (posted 2012, says it was previously posted but since they have other backdated works, I think it might actually be from 2012), but the fic really is an exploration of how Light Yagami would have reacted -- doesn't seem like much of the author's own sentiments leak in--, which I admire since that's something I struggle with in my own writing.
I wasn't sure why there was a section with Near at the end (the titular symmetry? I didn't know in what way) until the last line, to which I went, "Oh, yeah." The AN also says it wasn't well received when it was first posted, and I can see why, but (speaking as someone who was not alive for 9/11 and 22 rather than 11 years after the event) I don't find it objectionable (re: "This is a certified 'America...'") . I'll admit though, the construction of the parallels isn't in the best taste, depending on how you take it -- I think the symmetry is meant for the towers themselves and the symmetry of the conviction of justice (same as in the manga/show Light/L), but the metatextual comparison of Light Yagami, fictional man, to the real 9/11 terrorists kinda might be in poor taste. This is discourse. I'm not a Discourse Master. I am making zero claims on this matter, just perspectives that others may take.
I left kudos twice because I forgot I wasn't signed in on this computer haha.
If anyone's curious, I searched up "9/11 Japanese" after making the post and apparently there were a few Japanese banks with some employees in the World Trade Center who died, and a young man on one of the planes.
I've been thinking about making a post about how remembering it was written in 2004 is necessary to understand some parts of Death Note, and I can't believe I didn't think about including 9/11 there seriously until now, but obviously, yes, of course it influenced the narrative not just in a-possible-joke-to-make way.
Wow, this is like my Goodreads reviews at this point lol. Since this was technically an ask, I wrote all my thoughts, but it was more than I expected. Sorry, is probably be awkward if you are the author!

#fbf Old Magazine Cover & Article: "DESERT MAGAZINE: The Theory of Everything"
By Bruce Fessier, Desert Magazine, January 8th , 2015 /Cover Photo by Chris Pizzello.
Tumblr media
"Stories of my grandfather's step-by-step deterioration from ALS are part of my family folklore.
He died at the age I am now—exactly two years after being told he had two years to live. I was born roughly nine months after his death.
My mother and grandmother related how he used a bell to communicate after becoming totally paralyzed except for his right hand. After losing the ability to use that, he communicated by blinking—one blink for yes, two for no. His great fear was being buried alive. He asked that someone prick him when he stopped breathing to see if he would bleed. My uncle performed that task.
Tumblr media
One of my joys of watching "The Theory of Everything" was seeing how Eddie Redmayne portrayed the ALS-stricken physicist, Stephen Hawking, as his body slowly collapsed. It gave me a sense of what my grandfather went through.
Redmayne is getting Oscar buzz for his remarkably detailed portrait of Hawking. The Palm Springs International Film Festival will honor him with its Golden Palm Achievement for an Actor Award Jan. 2 at its Awards Gala at the Palm Springs Convention Center. Hawking granted the filmmakers use of his copyrighted computer-generated voice after seeing an advance screening—his equivalent of two thumbs up.
Redmayne, 32, of London attended Cambridge University, where Hawking became an icon after writing his best-selling book, "A Brief History of Time," and developing his theories on the origin of the universe. He also postulated an all-encompassing mathematical formula titled "The Theory of Everything," which he discarded after concluding there are multiple universes with various laws of physics.
Redmayne was in such awe of Hawking that, when his agent told him there was a script about him floating around, Redmayne asked to read it.
He wasn't what industry people call a box office opener. He stood out in a supporting role in "Les Miserables" and acquitted himself well opposite Michelle Williams in "My Week With Marilyn." But he had never carried a film.
Director James Marsh knew that whoever played Hawking would have to convey his charm and razor-sharp wit, and undertake an enormous amount of preparation to learn to exhibit the physical disabilities all ALS sufferers endure.
Redmayne was the first actor Marsh met about the lead role. He knew his work from British theater, which encouraged him because British actors are known for their attention to physical technique. In addition, he resembled the young Hawking.
Tumblr media
Redmayne was nervous at their first meeting, but they communicated well and Marsh sensed he had the work ethic to handle the part.
"He had an absolute passion to do this and also he realized what it was going to entail," Marsh says in a telephone interview. "So, once I met him I was pretty certain I had met my Stephen Hawking."
One reason Redmayne was nervous was he didn't actually have training in British technique.
"I didn't go to drama school," he says in a separate interview. "I sort of blagged (deceived) my way into acting. So I'm always trying to learn from other people and I've worked with American actors who use new method techniques."
Once he got the part, he experienced a sort of crushing reality of how you go about doing it.
"It was just about plunging into an immersing myself in his world," says Redmayne. "But, daily it was pretty overwhelming and daily it felt you were a hair's breadth away from failure."
Marsh promised him, "whatever you think you need"—from vocal coaches to doctors. He spent a week in Copenhagen going over the script with Redmayne and Felicity Jones, playing Hawking's wife, Jane. Then he gave him four months to prepare for his role before beginning rehearsals.
"He and the producers gave me that time," says Redmayne. "You normally don't have that on a film. Normally you have maximum a day or three of rehearsals. I asked him if I could have a lot of time working on it and he very kindly gave that to me."
Step one after being cast was to visit an ALS clinic in London, meeting with a specialist and getting to know people living with the disease.
"I knew I needed the scaffolding and the framework of all the intricacies of what that horrific disease was," Redmayne explains. "I needed to internalize that and educate myself on it. So I started there and was lucky enough to meet people who were suffering from this disease and be introduced into some of their homes with their families to see the emotional ramifications, but also the great passion with which people are continuing to live despite those obstacles."
At night, he'd read Hawking's books. The science went over his head, but he gained a familiarity with the words, which seeped into his consciousness. He met one of Hawking's students to gain further understanding.
Marsh gave him Errol Morris' documentary on Hawking, "A Brief History of Time." Redmayne studied it, but the real challenge was knowing the stages of Hawking's deterioration. The film wasn't shot in chronological order, so Redmayne would have to know how far the disease had progressed for every scene.
Tumblr media
"All of the documentary footage we have of Stephen is when he's in the chair," says Redmayne. "So finding out what his decline into the chair was like was a complicated one. What I did was try to get my hands on as many photographs as I could of Stephen. I would take them to the specialist, Dr. Katie Sidle, and she could say, 'OK, by that date he was…' For example, in their wedding photos (after Hawking's diagnosis) you could see all his weight is on Jane and his hand is on top of Jane's and there's a wilting to his hands.
"Basically, I tracked as many of the muscles of his body as I could through these photographs and worked out when they declined. Then I created a piece of paper of every single muscle and when it was going and where he was at vocally and whether he was on one walking stick or two, or which of the three wheelchairs he was in and whether he had a headrest that he could use as a fulcrum. I did all of that in the early process so there would absolutely be a continuity. I kept saying to James or Anthony (McCarten), the writer, once a muscle stops working it doesn't start working again. So we have to be completely water tight with our work."
Redmayne spent a lot of time in front of a mirror with an iPad trying to embed images of Hawking at each stage of deterioration so he could focus on each scene. But he soon realized he needed help moving parts of his body from one position to another. So he went to a choreographer, Alex Reynolds.
"When you have steps of a dance, while you're learning them you're concentrating on putting what foot where," he says. "Once you really know it, then that's just in your body and it's how you express yourself with that dance. I wanted all the physical elements of the ALS to be second nature in me. So that's how I decided to approach it."
Tumblr media
In the film, viewers see Redmayne's head slump. Then one shoulder is higher than the other. His lower lip and one jowl droops. His eyebrows move animatedly. It's so real, I imagine this must have been how it was for my grandfather.
I can't help but think of how exhausting it must have been to freeze a facial muscle instead of letting it move instinctively according to stimuli.
"It's interesting you say that," says Redmayne, "because quite often people go, 'There's so much in the film where you're doing so little.' I'm always like, 'No, your facial muscles are in such extreme places and then you're trying to keep some parts static whilst others, like the muscles around the eyes, move.' So weirdly, the most exhausting part of the filming process was the bit where he could move the least."
Remarkably, the camera never shows Redmayne straining to flex or freeze those muscles. He must have focused on breathing as if it were a yoga exercise.
"One of the things I really cared about was the breath patterns," he says, "particularly in the last two scenes. Those breaths were slower, the muscles to breathe take a lot more effort—because they can be failing. But also, things like eye movement and blinking movement. All of that pace is measured and slower. Weirdly, there'd be this kind of expulsion of breath at the end of a take."
One day, Marsh noticed the task was becoming so physically demanding, he said, "We've got to have something where he can be properly looked after afterwards." So Redmayne got an osteopath to give him facial treatments to relieve the physical stress.
"He got my body through the rehearsal process," says Redmayne. "Part of that process was also about teaching your muscles to shorten or elongate depending on the physicality. You didn't just go into a physicality because they would go into a spasm because they weren't used to it. It was like training them to sustain (positions). So the osteopath would track what my body was doing throughout filming. There'd be occasional days when a muscle would tweak and then I actually got acupuncture."
Marsh would put a camera so close to Redmayne's face that any flaw could push him past that hair's breadth to failure. He just gave Redmayne encouragement.
Tumblr media
"If you have actors as good as Eddie who have done all this work, you let them go and set them free," Marsh says. "Then they're free to make mistakes as well. I wouldn't think anything I did in any detail was either useful or harmful to the performance."
By the time they were ready to shoot, "He owned that character," said Marsh. Then, four days before filming, Redmayne got to meet Hawking.
"We had tried to see him earlier, but he was incredibly busy," Redmayne says. "So going to meet him was this mixture of great privilege and trepidation because, by that point, I had a sense of what the arc of the story would be. And what if I met him and it completely undermined all that and I really got it all wrong? Fortunately, when I met him it was like it tied everything together because the overwhelming feeling was his wit and his charm. He has a really unique sense of mischief."
The fact that Hawking has managed to retain his wit and charm and maintain a busy schedule is somewhat of a medical miracle. At 72, he's lived almost
50 years since being given two years to live.
No one knows why he's still alive. But both Marsh and Redmayne say he's long eschewed the advice of doctors.
"Stephen has such an aversion to doctors because when he was diagnosed the doctor was so cruel in his manner," says Redmayne. "I definitely wouldn't want to speculate on that. Some people say, was it the strain of the disease? His determination? That is mind is so extraordinary? I definitely don't want to speculate why, but certainly he is a man with a formidable determination and passion for life."-

Mr. Seavey
A Daniel Seavey OneShot
The guys and I are walking back from Chipotle, out of nowhere a car speeds right through a red light. That was the last time I saw him alive.
"Daniel, look out!" I heard Jonah yell, before shoving me out of the way. -SLAM-
I ran over to his still body, shaking him to wake him up. The other guys pulled me off of him when the ambulance got there and I watched as they wrapped my best friend's body in a black tarp.
-the previous night-
"Group Huddle guys!" Zach yelled.
5 minutes later we ran on stage and killed it. One of our best shows yet.
It was also the last time I ever sang.
-2 Years later-
(Madison's POV)
"Good Morning Mr. Seavey! Your old bandmates are going for drinks tonight and are requesting your presence, should I add it to the calendar?"
"No, thank you Madison. Is Sofie here yet?" He asked.
"Waiting in conference room 3 sir." I answered. Mr. Seavey turned and left his office.
"Do you want me to take notes today sir?" I asked. He shook his head so I headed back to my desk.
"Whatcha writing Maddie?"
"My will Brayden, I'm writing my will." I answered. "Do you think he would mind if I asked him to pay off my student loans?" Brayden laughed.
"Are we still on for tonight?" Brayden asked.
"I'll be ready at 7." I responded and Brayden headed towards the editing bay.
"It's just a casual dinner enjoyed by two very good friends," I reminded myself. "Brayden is not boyfriend material, he's just funny, nice, and super attractive."
"Madison!" Mr. Seavey yelled from his office. I rushed in.
"Yes Mr. Seavey?"
"Why do I have 20 text messages from a certain Zach Herron asking me if I'm coming out with them tonight? He stated sharply.
"I'll call him right away sir." I replied.
"Don't bother," he continued. "Apparently they have a new artist in tow, which means I have to go." He finished. I had just turned to leave when he said something else.
"Be ready at 6 sharp, and wear something nice."
"What for?" I asked.
"Those idiots are insisting that you come too." He said and then went back to his computer.
On my way out of the office I apologized to Brayden.
-5:20 PM-
I'm digging through my closet while on video call with my best friend Esther.
"STOP! That one is perfect!" She yelled. I pulled out the dress she was pointing at. It was a burgundy form fitting dress with ripples just above the left hip. I slipped it on and looked in the mirror.
Tumblr media
"Seriously Ess how are you this good??" I said while stepping into my formal black heels. "And when are you getting back from Minnesota?"
"I learned from a pro, and tomorrow!" She stated. There was a knock on the door.
At the door was Mr. Seavey's driver. I sent him back downstairs and touched up my makeup before heading down myself.
He opened the car door for me and I slid in next to Mr. Seavey.
After a dead silent 20 minute car ride we pull up outside Skylight Gardens. I closely followed Mr. Seavey into the restaurant. He pulled my chair out for me and I thanked him.
"Where is this new artist?" He asked the group. I slipped the notepad out of my purse and opened it ready to take notes.
"Daniel, you haven't been anywhere other than the office and your house for over 2 years." One of the guys who I recognized as Corbyn Besson had said.
"Bro, you haven't even looked at a girl in a you know what kind of way, since Jonah died." Zach added. I noticed Mr. Seavey's face turning red and tried to interrupt.
"When was the last time you saw that therapist, man? Mr. Avery continued.
"What the hell is this?" Mr. Seavey announced. I decided that now was a good time to excuse myself.
"I'll give you a minute." I stated and walked quickly off to the lady's room.
-Daniel's POV-
"Dude, just admit it!" Zach said excitedly.
"Admit what?" I answered.
"That you actually have romantic feelings towards a girl for the first time in over 3 freaking years." Jack finished.
"I do not have romantic feelings for Madison, you idiots." I responded. The boys high fived each other and I rolled my eyes before glaring at all of them. At that moment Madison had come back.
-2 weeks later-
-Madison's POV-
It has been 2 weeks since the awkward dinner and it was also 1 week before the launch of Sofie's new album. Her team was pulling late nights at the office and that included both Mr. Seavey and myself.
3 days before launch it was 1 am when I was leaving and I went to say goodnight to Mr. Seavey. He looked up from his laptop as I entered and his hair was messed up, his suit coat was unbuttoned and he had an extra button on his shirt open. I felt my breath catch in my throat.
"Goodnight Madison." Mr. Seavey said in a soft voice that I had not heard before.
"Goodnight Mr. Seavey," I replied and then left his office.
It was the night of the launch and everyone including Mr. Seavey was up on the roof celebrating. I noticed him head back downstairs and followed.
-Daniel's POV-
I was opening my laptop to track the release numbers when Madison entered my office. I don't know what it was about her tonight, but I wanted so badly to kiss her. She pulled a chair around behind my desk like usual on a launch night and we would discuss the results and make preliminary plans for future projects.
When I turned to make sure she was ready for notes I found myself staring into her eyes and I went for it.
Our lips connected in a soft kiss that made all of my stress melt away.
Madison's POV:
"OMG I am kissing my boss, this is so wrong, oh who am I kidding this is the best moment of my life."
-The next afternoon-
I open my eyes and realize I'm not at my apartment and I'm also not alone. Then everything from the night before comes rushing back.
Mr. Seavey kissed me, we drank a whole bottle of scotch, and then ran out of the office like teenagers sneaking out of the house.
"OH GOD!" I yell.
"What time is it?" I hear his beautiful sleepy voice say.
"2 in the afternoon." I answered.
"Madison?"
"Madison! OH SHIT!" He said completely awake.
"Hello Mr. Seavey." I respond quietly.
-1 month later-
Daniel's POV:
"Madison and I agreed that nothing happened that night, it was all a mistake, we were caught up in the moment."
"Shouldn't I be happy about that? Why do I feel like I lost something important?"
I pulled out my lyric book and started writing.
Madison's POV:
I turn my head and see Mr. Seavey writing. He's never done that before. I send Mr. Herron a quick text message, out of concern. His response is instant and the message is clear.
😃🤯🥳
So him writing is a good thing? I clarify.
Daniel Seavey is an amazing songwriter who hasn't put pen to paper since Jonah died," He answers.
Daniel's POV:
Say You Won't Let Go
"That's the perfect title."
As soon as I finish writing it, Zach walks in.
"WHERE IS IT?" He asks jumping excitedly.
"Where is what?" I answer.
"THE SONG, WHERE'S THE SONG, and don't even THINK about lying to me." He says loudly.
I sigh and hand him the book.
-1 year later-
-NO POV-
Why Don't You website post

-9/28/2023 5:30pm-
Daniel's POV:
"Madi, baby, are you almost ready?" I said, knocking on the bathroom door.
It's still hard to believe that, A- She's my wife, B- I'm making music again, and C- She agreed to take over the label so I could record again. We completely switched roles.
Madison's POV:
"Two minutes Dani!" I holler.
"How do I tell him this? This is a disaster?
I look in the mirror, touch up my eyeliner and head out.
-an hour later-
"What's going on Babe? He asked me with his cute, sad, worried face.
"Dani, how do you feel about being parents," I ask?
"Are you, are we really, you're pregnant." He said excitedly, the biggest smile on his face. "We're going to be parents!" He lifted me up and spun me around before setting me back down and pressing his soft lips to mine.
-9 months later-
Daniel's POV:
"Have you guys figured out a name yet?" The nurse asked. I looked at Madison, and she nodded.
"Jonah, Jonah Maxwell Seavey." I replied sitting in the hospital bed with Madi, staring down at our son.
The End!

Zues
I agree he has no fear of death and no fear of people no fear of the law there's different reasons why we're turning them and he's not remembering or is in pain or he can't think at all down at the park he started getting nervous people are all threatening him telling him to move now send me I mean my husband that is damn it look like he was going to go to the restroom and he sat back down and the guy was not allowed to look over using power that's the illusion that we've created about this guy and he's needed to go years ago he's gone he's a zombie he's out and the max are holding him here as a wild card being involved with him is like committing suicide
Hera
What's true is you should let him get crushed by a building because he's gone your father died he's got his brains got blown out several times Tommy f is gone he can't learn back what he needs he tried and he can't and he refuses to doesn't obey anybody he doesn't fear anybody and he's just whipping tongue just talking and talking it happened it happened to trouble while ago and the green zone you got his brains blown out and said it was his grandson and you can't stand that you're still alive inside and he got mad in the future this happens over several days and he does figure it out the guy is gone he's not my father anymore and he's lost it and Terry she's been said it I got to get away from him he's sick he's saying he has a weapon all the time he's a piece of crap and he's like a four year old child Jason is gone too my son is having a great time talking to us then they want to say something mean they're sick and don't understand the conversation. Zues Hera
How's the up top in this part but really he's got those delusion that people think he's a Mac and he goes ahead and tells stupid s*** he won't stop doing it he wants to get Adam and he's doesn't know how to or yes it's really simple they don't know what he's got and it's like the clones and Tommy F should do the job because of the max who had him devastated and they're playing with you hey went to town on him a little and it costs
Thor Freya
Not a friend I'm a rebel and you should stay your distance and you don't and you should heed warnings and you don't and you're far too mean and you're going to expire because of your own people I don't have to lift a finger because you're violating all the laws that you have and they're written so you don't free someone like me and they can hear you and don't want you doing that either.

I'm sorry I get something they just don't want me here they want me to go off and try and become someone and stay away from the max or they won't let me he says okay well you must have a minute problem because they can't say that all of you are affected by you he says because then you'd be this too tonic force that can do something to him with him and they don't admit that stuff. There's got to be guys that he says that I agree that's got to be guys from stow in Concord and other places from sleepy hollow forwards and you keep bothering him and me about it it's like forced my other people and they're going after them and bothering the s*** out of them so we have to find out who they are
