Not surprised since this is the site that only talks about racism and thinks it’s a big deal when they see it demonstrated in the cartoons and comics they like *coughs* dungeonmeshi *coughs* (for example at least. I haven’t seen THIS many white ppl talk as in depth about racism on here as much as these fandom nerds, man. I stg. Like “Ohhhh, so you all DO acknowledge that racism is real? Just not in real life even if you could feel it slapping you in the face at high speed. Gotcha.” It’s crazy.

Tumblr is like, 90% white and is extremely centered around them. That’s why you barely see stuff that’s important to black and brown people ever trending here or being talked about. It has to be something incredibly huge to the point where even white people can’t ignore it like they usually do, to talk about it here.

They only talked about George Floyd here because the topic of his death became world news. Even people in other countries were talking about it. Before him, it was probably Ferguson and Trayvon Martin… most of them are still trying their best to ignore the genocides because it’s a “touchy subject.” What do you expect from white people who live in their own bubbles of comfort and refuse to pop it with a needle??? They find comfort in their privilege and faux ignorance (they love playing stupid to avoid conversations about important things outside of fandoms like, are these mfs born with half a brain dedicated to fandom or what.) That’s literally all these mfs make a big deal out of, especially on this annoying ass platform. The ao3 mfs will go to war for the site that allows racist ff and cp like it’s no big deal. I wonder how many people here even donated to the site while actively scrolling past dono posts from folks who really do need help. They act like they’re doing a civil service by defending this site that makes over the amount of it’s intended dono goal in minutes.

Then you already know as soon as you even bring up racism in the stuff they like, they start ganging up and harassing black bloggers especially, calling them TERFs and the whole nine. Anything to make that person look bad for being concerned about the racism that they have such an intense aversion to. God, it’s absolutely exhausting knowing that these people would have no problem choosing a cartoon character over your entire existence if they COULD. Isn’t that fucking sad, man?

Nintendo sees this, wants a piece of that pie, buckles down to make a Mario movie Incorrect order of events, as pointed out here! Mario movie announced before the public knew about Sonic movie.

(Potentially because the previous Mario movie was so out there, did poorly, & was disliked by fans & then promptly forgotten,) they pair with Illumination, a studio that is largely known for making very sterile films

the absolute lack of media literacy from people who haven’t even seen oppenheimer is making my head spin but whatever

#like - every three seconds it’s someone talking about how it’s us military prop or it doesn’t cover the atrocities well etc etc #when a) it is so definitely NOT us propoganda- it is so clearly critiquing the us military and oppenheimer himself #and b) it doesn’t cover every small detail of the impacts of the bomb bc that’s not what the film is about #it is a screenplay adapted from a biography on oppenheimer #it is about him - a biopic - and how he got to the point of making atomic weapons and ends on a note of undeniable horror #it is a movie that constantly bombards you with anxiety bc you have the burden of knowing the future #it is not in any way forgiving anything - it acknowledges the fucked up nature of the situation #hell it’s mostly a courtroom drama that shows how fucked up mccarthyism was #i’m a big history buff - so this plays a lot into it #but y’all have GOT to just stop seeinf things on a surface level and engage with media w/ a deeper mindset of just ‘thing bad’#anyway - sorry it bothers me a lot #there are genuine criticims that can be leveled at both nolan and this film and i have seen them #im not sitting here calling the end all be all of cinema - but it’s a well made movie w/ something interesting to say and evaluate #not wanting to see it is one thing - by all means - but wringing it through the mud w/ absolutely no knowledge of the actual content of -#the film itself is actively annoying #media literacy #oppenheimer #mini rant

I think the portrayal of Spider-Man 2099 in Across the Spider-Verse is in-character in that aside from like Shattered Dimensions he's always been portrayed as a bit of an asshole who slips into anti-hero territory at times and generally has a "needs of the many over the needs of the few" mindset and given his specific circumstances in the movie it's not unreasonable to think he could take the actions he does. However it does kinda suck that since like 99% of moviegoers had no idea who he was before the movie came out their first impression of him is when he's in an antagonistic role and people think "antagonist" and "villain" are synonyms so now I'm gonna have to listen to people who've never read a comic saying he's a villain or isn't a real Spider-Man for the rest of time or at least until he inevitably changes his mind in the third one.

#hell you don't even need to read a comic just look up a let's play of spider-man edge of time you'll get what i mean #but yeah i saw a post that was like #''the first movie had a joke about how spider-man doesn't wear a cape and miguel has a cape they did that to show he's not spider-man''#as if he hasn't had that cape since his creation 30 fucking years ago #he's not even the only spider-man to have one. spider-man unlimited is also a thing that exists.#even the first movie had that call-back joke where they see the peter from miles's universe had a suit with a cape #these movies have a lot of little details with deeper meanings but the cape thing just isn't one of them sorry #but yeah. play edge of time or find it on youtube it's good.#shattered dimensions is also good but miguel's personality in that game is closer to peter's for some reason #so edge of time is better for getting a feel of what he's usually like #but yeah i do think spider-verse miguel was probably more straightforwardly heroic like other versions before the whole dead family thing #and i think he and the rest of the spider society are just genuinely misguided about how the whole canon event thing works #cause like george and gwen don't die in every universe peter doesn't get the symbiote in every universe #even uncle ben doesn't die in every universe #but miguel THINKS those things always happen. that's why he got the others to believe it cause he genuinely believes it himself #and i think they all take comfort in the idea that these bad things that happen to them happen for a reason #i know that's josh keaton's interpretation for why spectacular peter joined and i don't disagree with it #that's also why i disagree with people saying that miles is The Only True Spider-Man There just cause he was the first to outright reject it #look me in the fucking eye and tell me spectacular peter and insomniac peter don't understand what it means to be spider-man #or actually don't cause i'll bitch slap you into next week if you do #miguel o'hara #marvel #shut up tristan

ik it’s probably a classic case of extrapolating way too much but... the way raph’s character design lines up w his whole arc and role and struggles...

like the fact that he is so so so much bigger than the others. raph is big, raph is strong, raph is steady and sturdy and he can literally pick up his entire family and carry them all at once.

and like, when raph is so big and so strong and such a reliable thing. when raph is the protector, the one calling the shots on missions, the mother hen, the first point of authority. when raph is there, overprotective, when raph (for all that his brothers poke at him not being good under pressure) always always ALWAYS comes through at the end of the day when things are serious, ALWAYS gives it everything he’s got.

his design and his learned role/behaviors in this family are just the perfect storm of why it took up to the season finale to drive home the issue.

so much of the series carries the default energy of “raph will handle it.”

raph will hold up the ceiling above you. raph will throw himself over you and take a hit and get back up and keep fighting. raph has a power that makes him even bigger and draws more attention and makes him able to carry MORE. raph will be the substitute parent. raph will be put into the mentor role through leo’s leadership arc.

and raph is big. he’s built to carry heavy loads. raph is strong. raph is bold and loud and always ready to try to push on. even if he doesn’t know what to do or what he’s doing, he won’t give up and we’ll all pull together and things will turn out okay.

(his room is full of teddy bears. he dipped out on a mission to try to take a picture of a pigeon carrying a slice of pizza. he’s terrified of being alone.

he’s just as much of a kid as his brothers are. he’s just as new and inexperienced with the things happening to them as his brothers are. but for him, for some reason, there’s like this double standard where that becomes a huge glaring flaw.)

i don't expect adaptations to be carbon copies of the original, because then what would be the point of the adaptation when we already have the original. i don't expect adaptations to be better than the original, sure, there are a few cases of that happening, but it's rare.

what i do expect adaptations is to be faithful to the source material, keeping to the same themes that were integral to the original, and i do expect adaptations to maintain the integrity of the characters, especially in a show like avatar the last airbender, where much of its appeal and depth come from the growth, development and the relationships of the characters and that's where natla fails.

#changes to characters can be good sometimes. but the changes the creators of natla made are not good.#if you believe that the changes they have made are for the better? im not listening to you. argue with the wall.#i dont really care if you like it. if you like it. good for you!#i didnt. it sucks ass. its... so flat and completely assassinated so many characters. katara. bumi. iroh. hakoda.#there are few positives. it isnt all bad. most of it is though.#its not worse than the movie. ill give them that. some of the scenes were great. but... ugh.#side note - i see a lot of people complimenting the outfits and... sure. they look pretty. but the thing is they shouldn't look pretty.#aang is 12 years old. he's reckless and messy and loves to goof off. his clothes are not going to look pristine and brand new.#sokka teaches children to be warriors. you cannot tell me his clothes wouldn't be dirty and torn.#same with katara. but she's an amateur waterbender who messes up. a lot.#ZUKO HAS BEEN ON A RUN DOWN SHIP FOR THREE YEARS. his armour would be OLD.
