Ash and Eiji were two sides of the same heart. They were both strong on their own but together they were whole. Neither could live without the other anymore; neither wanted to.

How do you personally feel about Yut-Lung? Do you sympathize with him? Dislike him?
Ohh, I hate him, and I don't understand the sympathy given to him at all. He's literally the reason Ash died. Because he manipulated Lao into believing Ash would kill Sing, which is why Lao ended up stabbing Ash in the end. And all because Yut-Lung was jealous and envious of Ash's relationship with Eiji. I know Yut-Lung had a shitty life, but his life wasn't any worse than Ash's, and yet he blamed Ash for his own inability to find real love and connection, as if Ash had anything to do with it. And he resented Ash for going through the same, horrific shit he did, but still having the capacity to love and be loved. So he did all he could to take that away from Ash, to destroy it, simply because he couldn't have the same. Let's not forget he also had the families of his brother's murdered, just to consolidate his power, including young children. People who had never done anything to him and posed no threat to him. So, yeah, Yut-Lung gets no sympathy from me, I'm afraid. He's the reason Ash died, he's a terrible person, and the abuse he suffered as a child doesn't change that fact.

I saw you in a bright clear field, hurricane heat in my head The kind of pain you feel to get good in the end, good in the end... Inscribed like stone and faded by the rain: Give up what you love Give up what you love before it does you in…

Rating Bf characters on how well I think they would perform at their Part-time job
Y'all remember the Banana Fish part-time job artworks? Well I remembered it so now it's my job to share my unwanted opinion on all of them :)
1. Ash as Pizza delivery boy: 5/10
Tumblr media
With Ash it just really depends on his mood
He's the fastest deliverer if he wants to
But he's also the guy to deliver your pizza with half the pizza missing and his explanation being: "sorry bro I got hungry"
Also your order will "mysteriously disappear" if you don't tip him enough
2. Shorter as Waiter: 10/10
Tumblr media
I mean it's canon that Shorter works at Chang Dai
He wants to be the future owner of the diner so his grind is strong 💪💪
Makes the customers feel comfortable and I just feel like the vibe would be good with him.
3. Sing as Messenger Boy: 7/10
Tumblr media
I can see him having fun at this job
Problem is when he starts to have too much fun and gets too invested in people's businesses
He's gonna know every secret in every neighborhood that's nearby
Bonus point because despite acting like he's a delivery boy from the 1900's (definitely tried to speak like them as well), he does a good job
4. Eiji as Pet Groomer: 100/10
Tumblr media
Staff was so right for this
Puppy happiness increases by 1000%
5. Yut Lung as Beauty Advisor: 9.5/10
Tumblr media
Okay first of all he ABSOLUTELY KNOWS what he's doing so this is an amazing job choice
Will give his clients actual helpful advice and make sure they look STUNNING
Also he definitely lets you rant about your day and will gossip with you whilst fixing your mascara
(and he absolutely calls his clients "honey" or "sweetie" so bonus point)
Minor problem is he WILL judge you if he doesn't like one of your requests and he WILL let you know
6. Blanca as Bartender: -1000/10
Tumblr media
I do not trust this man with my drink.

I dont get why anyone would be mad about the modernization of the banana fish anime when in fact it opens the possibility that yut lung could listen to mitski

You know what gets me about people who hate on Ash for the way he supposedly mistreated Yut-Lung? They go on and on about how Yut-Lung didn't have anyone who cared about him like Ash did, and we're supposed to feel sorry for him because of that, or believe that Yut-Lung somehow had it harder than Ash because of that. But you know what? You know the reason Ash had people that cared about him? It's because Ash cared about other people. He wasn't lucky. He didn't have it better than Yut-Lung. Ash didn't have it better than anybody. His life was pure hell. But he was still a good person. He was a better person than Yut-Lung, by miles and miles. And other people could see that. And so they gave a shit about him. Yut-Lung's isolation was all on himself. People would have cared about him if he wasn't such a selfish piece of shit. But he was. And he was petty, and cruel, and unkind. He wasn't able to care about anyone but himself, and it manifested in his being alone. He orchestrated the circumstances of Ash's death because he was jealous that Ash was loved and able to love in return.
So later with that Yut-Lung apologist shit. Ugh. I hate it.

THE CAMERA AND THE GUN
(tw: discussion/explicit mention of Ash Lynx's past)
I think that as a fandom, we don't appreciate the importance of Eiji being a photographer (or going to the US as one) enough.
Given Ash's past, cameras are something he's very vulnerable under. He's constantly been exploited for his body and image, and the child corn videos of him were still up for distribution until Max burned all of it. Even the sound of cameras can be a triggering memory, such as when he's confronting Kippard and he's transported back into a childhood memory with the incessant "click click click" of the camera.
Eiji, showing up to that bar, pulling up a camera with his job literally being to take pictures of him, embodied everything Ash should distrust. However Eiji asks is he can take the photos, and Ash replies "not the face", this obviously makes sense given he's a criminal, but with what we learn later it's obviously more than that.
Ash was carrying a gun, Eiji a camera, to both of them what the other person was carrying was the greater weapon. However, famously, Eiji asks for Ash's gun, takes it and gives it back and says "thank you for trusting me with it", which I think is really key. Ash has just seen that if he can trust Eiji with a gun, perhaps he can trust him with a camera.
Which he does. We never really see Eiji take pictures of Ash during the course of the show, but we know he did thanks to garden of light, where we actually see some of them. The fact that Eiji has a camera, giving him the power to make Ash feel vulnerable and observed, but doesn't at any moment, must've given Ash so much hope. In the same way he tells Eiji that it's the first time anyone has done something for him without "asking for something in return" this is probably the first time someone has had the power to hurt him and not used it.
The fact Ash can trust Eiji so fully with a camera, and feel comfortable and unguarded around him just speaks so so much to the nature of their relationship and just how deep and true it was. With Eiji, Ash really can just be himself "a boy of 17 years old" he's not afraid in the slightest, even if every single thing from his past should tell him to run. The trust Ash has in Eiji is just as great and moving as the trust Eiji has in Ash. Eiji tells Ash he was never scared of him, not for a moment, which is something that Ash finds great comfort in, but it's also true the other way around.
Eiji the one who trusted a boy with a gun and Ash , the one who trusted a boy with a camera. Gosh I love them.
