You've been visited by the random OC question fairy! :D ~☆
Who does your character trust? Who do they NOT trust? Why?
Ooh, yay! I’m going to use Zarifa from The Lunewell Saga - Natura for this (:.
She’s generally pretty skeptic to most people, both from past childhood experiences of being the ‘weird’ kid, and from her introversion, so there’s generally not a lot of people she trusts.
However, Zarifa did find some people (read: family) who she can actually trust. Their researcher and antique manager, Bruin, and their antique hunter Grant.
She mostly trusts these two because of their shared experiences with the more unattractive, creppy, inhuman side of existence.

She protects him from Brandon and has been suspended multiple times for snapping his wrist and breaking his nose
The two of them had ‘study group’ every other week
It was more of an excuse to get him out of his dad’s house
They did study though Noa tutors him in math bc he really doesn’t get it and he helps her memorize dead white guys for history
They continue this into high school but now with Zari and Leela
Noa tells him about the whole Star Sapphire thing after three months of them being friends because he said kids ‘like them’ were never heroes
She proved him wrong, but she’s been trying to make him see that he’s already proven himself wrong
Zari doesn’t quite get his autism like Noa and eventually Leela, but she tries and defends him against anyone who tries some shit
Even though Leela was originally Noa’s friend, the two bonded over time despite having very little common interest other than track

OC-Tober Day 6
Prompt: Luxuries
Fun fact, this is based on a real situation my mother was in, were she (a native Norwegian) got overwhelmed by the amount of butter in British stores (:
The prompts list I’m using for this comes from @oc-growth-and-development
————————————————
Grant was overwhelmed. Absolutely, miserably overwhelmed. He felt like breaking down, impending doom deep in his stomach and fear overtaking his every sense. His lashes were wet, and his hands but a blur of movement as he looked into the drawer.
There was too much tea
So many brands, in rainbow coloured all with different fonts. There were unthinkable amounts of flavour combinations, all turning into a sweet, general tea scent. It was as if his eyes had laid upon the brightest corner of heaven and the darkest corner of hell simultaneously.
Grant promptly shut the drawer, trying to get his breathing under control. He decided that maybe just for today, he would have coffee. With much hesitation, he opened the coffee drawer like the fool he was.
Grant let out a cry, for in the drawer was not even a single drop of bitter coffee, but instead piles and piles of even more tea. He whimpered pathetically, wondering what cruel God could commit such a heinous crime.
His whimpers had alerted his coworkers Bruin and Zarifa, who had come over with worried expressions. “Grant? Are you all right ?”
“There’s so much tea.”
Zarifa and Bruin shared a look. “...I know,” said the latter, “that’s one of the biggest luxuries of this branch.”
“No! No! There’s too much. Nobody needs this many options!” He said hastily, “I can’t choose, I like them all! You can’t choose a favourite child, Bruin! This is a crime against humanity!”
Zarifa and Bruin looked stunned, before the former started chuckling, and the latter cracked a wide smile.
“This isn’t funny!”
“You- you,” Zarifa began, before chuckling madly again, “Grant, you called the tea drawer a crime against humanity.”
“Oh… so I did.”
And then Grant burst out laughing too, though not before vowing to bring his own tea bags to the office next time.

OC-Tober
Day 5: Beloved
This day is just going to be some pure, wholesome fluff. No icky flesh slugs here.
The list of prompts I’m using comes from @oc-growth-and-development
—————————————————
There were a lot of things that held a close place in Zarifa’s heart. Like the little gold butterfly necklace inherited from her mother that she wore almost every day, or her soft black curls, which though a nightmare to tend, she treasured very much.
But the thing that Zarifa adored more than anything, had just stepped through the door.
Physically, Lottie looked the opposite of Zarifa. Her small body, ivory skin, and feminine clothes stood in stark contrast to Zarifa, who was tall and elegant with dark skin and rather tomboyish clothes.
“You have chocolate around your mouth, sweetheart,” was the first thing Zarifa pointed out, before licking her thumb, gently wiping the dark mess away, and tasting the chocolate.
“Frostings lovely, isn’t it, butterfly?” Lottie said with a smile, before holding up a see through bag, “I managed to steal some for us to share together.”
“You and your massive sweet tooth,” Zarifa sighed fondly, “the cake is good though, I’ll give you that, but couldn’t you just have asked to take some home?”
“I could have, but that would take all the fun out of it.” She threw a little wink in there, before striding off, undoubtedly to throw herself on Zarifa’s sofa.
Her relationship with Lottie was… complicated. There was no doubt they both loved each other, but they didn’t quite know how to define whatever this was.
For one thing, Zarifa was her boss. Granted, the Grimswell Antique branch in Lunewell was so small that normal work hierarchy had to be completely thrown out, but the title and power difference was still there.
Or maybe it was simply the fact that they had done this for so long. They had known each other since the age of 14, and been sneaking out to see each other since 16. At that point, it seemed too late to put a name to it, to dare change what has been the same for over a decade.
They had slept together, of course they had. You don’t love someone for 11 years without it. But, it had always been while drunk, or under pressure, and the days after had always been tense and awkward.
Lottie, just as Zarifa had predicted, had thrown herself comfortably over the couch in front of the TV . She was curled up in a ball, a light grey pillow covering her face in a way that made Zarifa want to hold her, kiss her and stare into those gorgeous emerald eyes forever.
Instead, she simply slid next to her, putting the cake on the coffee table in front of them, and gently laid a hand on her bare thighs. It was a subtle thing, a small action, though it still felt intimate in that way she rarely felt with anyone else.
“Grant told me that you’ve never seen The Lion King,” Lottie began, leaning slightly into her touch, “and if that isn’t the biggest tragedy I’ve ever heard, butterfly, I don’t know what is.”
“This isn’t going to be another Disney movie that makes me cry, is it?”
Lottie giggled, making Zarifa’s heart shoot off like a rocket, “can’t make any promises, you big softie.”
As they sat there, the beautiful sunset and instrumentals begging over the first scene of the movie, Zarifa looked down at an excited Lottie, and gently stroked her hair. Maybe they didn’t have to label it, just yet at least, because Zarifa didn’t even think words could describe how much she loved Lottie.

Underwing Challenge - Day 3
Who is your main cast? Describe as many of your OCs as you can cram into one post.
I’ve already posted a full intro of all of my OC’s here, but as time is the most precious red course we have, and not everyone should wish to spend it reading 6 long descriptions, I’ll give a quick bullet point run through of everyone, along with where they are on the illustration, starting with:
Zarifa Birch (bottom left):
Acting boss of the antique shop
The mother of the group
Utter book nerd who uses fiction to escape her past
Very inquisitive, sweet, and cairing
A little bit naive, and often turns a blind eye
Ultimately just wants to be normal
Is a bit of a disaster lesbian
Bruin Becker (bottom middle):
Researches, restores and manages antique stock
Organisation is his passion
Most “normal” out of the cast (but not really)
Outwardly cold but just wants to be loved
Biggest history nerd
Sophisticated gay
Grant Garden (top middle):
Literal definition of disaster bi
A shoulder to cry on
The closest to a comic relief
Loves to bake, and has a weird obsession with antique dolls and music boxes
20 intelligence, 1 Wisdom
Lottie Rose (Top Right):
Really sharp tongue, and a love of rebellion
Could beat you up, and probably will
Has a sweet tooth
Wakes up everyday and chooses chaos
Has a soft spot for her leather jacket, her lighter, and (deep, deep down) Zarifa
Pan and pinning
Valour Thorn (Top Left):
The landlord of the antique shop (but is basically never there)
Lives in a cottage with cats and has almost no human interaction
Leigh is the only one she likes
Cold on the outside, cold on the inside
Thirst for knowledge
Straight Ace
Leigh (Bottom Right):
Precious bean, sweet cinnamon roll who is too good for this world
A bit creepy and mysterious
Probably human (maybe, potentially, hopefully)
Not a lot is known about why their here
Aromantic and genderfluid
Loves to learn, and looks at the world with wide eyed curiosity

For the gemstone ask game, Amethyst and Ruby?
Thanks so much for the ask my lovely writeblr friend (:! These are always fun. As always, I’ll be using The Lunewell Saga - Natura for this (:
Amethyst - Who is the Comfort CharacterTM of your WIP?
Oooh, definitely either Grant or Leigh. Grant is literally me with more social skills, ability to bake, a more flamboyant style, and slightly more forgetfulness and anxiety, and is the character I love to write the most when I’m upset. He’s the character I project most of myslef onto.
All my OC’s are equally loved, but Leigh is just a bit more equally loved than the others. I would kill to meet them, and they seem very comforting and lovely. Just want them to hug me under the stars and tell me everything will be alright.
Ruby - Is there any symbolism in your WIP?
Quite a lot, actually (:. Some of it goes into spoiler-territory, but I can talk about some of the more prominent, non-spoilers ones here.
Some of the symbolism is pretty obvious, like, for example, the roses I use. They’re all used to symbolise passion, and show up in areas that have a strong connection to that, most notably in the character Lottie Rose. Along those lines, I have a character which views the world very idealistically, and appropriately always wears rose tinted glasses.
Some of it is slightly more subtle, like the fact that the story takes place in autumn, signifying the slow dying and retreat of a variety of organisms before winter comes, or Zarifa’s favourite book being The Secret Garden, a book all about rejuvenation and healing, which is something Zarifa desperately tries to accomplish throughout (also, the use of the roses in the garden work very well with my story)
