babymetal lore-dumping because im bored and i need to rant about my girlies (this could potentially be helpful for new babymetal fans too!)

babymetal originally formed as a heavy metal club in the idol group sakura gakuin, but became an independent group after suzuka nakamoto (su-metal) graduated from SG in 2012. moa kikuchi (moametal) and yui mizuno (yuimetal) joined during that time but were still in SG (they graduated in 2014).

doki doki☆morning was their first single (originally appeared on the sakura gakuin debut album 'sakura gakuin 2010 nendo: message'.) they preformed it during the "tokyo idol festival 2011: eco & smile" along with ijime, dame, zettai.

yuimetal left babymetal on October 19, 2018 due to recurring health issues, she couldn't make it to the rock am ring and rock on the range festivals, this indicated she was about to leave the group. saya hirai (sayametal) was the backup dancer during dark night carnival and the two festivals i mentioned previously.

yui was then replaced with 3 backup dancers for the tour line-up during the metal galaxy world tour in 2019 and 2020. (momoko okazaki, kano fujihira, and riho sayashi) they are also known as the 'avengers'.

momoko okazaki became an official member of the group in April 2023 under the stage name momometal. (scream & dance).

My journey with Idol’s animes and mangas - Part 2

I’m back with this journey, but before the anime review (I still don’t know why i added mangas in the title, I’m barely trying to read “Oshi no Ko” in chapter 50 and “Oshi ga Tonari de Jugyou ni Shuuchuu Dekinai!”in chapter like… 5?)

I want to try and explain a little bit of japanese idols, as far as I know, because if someone of this class reads this, i doubt they know japanese idols besides japanese members in korean groups.

  Disclaimer that I forgot last time: my posts respect the Japanese names’ order.

The idol history usually is told to start in the 1960s traced to Yoshinaga Sayuri, who was an actress, but also to the Takarazuka Revue, and the starting in 1962 with Johnny’s Entertainement creating the group Johnnys being then said to be the first active idol group in Japan, and also Kitagawa Johnny being credited as the idol trainee system’s creator. 

On the other side also told it basically started as an effect of the popularity that the french film “Cherchez l’idole” got in Japan. But as a last this year was made a TV Movie (titled “Idol”　「アイドル」with sarcasm i need to say “what a creative title!”) about the one artist who Japan considers the first idol, Ashita Matsuko, an idol in the war’s period (specifically the movie is set in 1936), I cannot actually tell more because I haven’t been able to watch it yet, i only know is based on Matsuko’s real life.

Besides this kind of complex start point (with the information I’ve found in these years as idol wota). We can definitively say that the gap between the 60’s and 80’s are the golden age of idol, traditionally talking, with all the icons we get from this period, like Matsuda Seiko, Nanno, Moritaka Chisato, Sakai Noriko, and the group Onyanko Club.

This being also possible because of Japan’s economic bubble and the commercial interest on them growing, in this times idols weren’t close to the fans, and you can really notice this with Konno Junko from Zombieland Saga (as far as I know because I haven't watched this anime). The 90’s bring a declive in the interest on idols due to a shift in attitudes caused by Japan’s economic collapse. The idol interest also shifted from amateurs to professionals (partially because of a rehaul on Matsuda Seiko’s public image). This period was called The Idol Winter Period” アイドル冬の時代 and we got icons as Amuro Namie and SPEED, even though they never referred to themselves as idols.

In the 90’s we got the chidol boom, as the elementary aged idols were increasing.

The lasts years of the 90’s and the 2000’s bring more popularity to idols again, specially thanks to Morning Musume and the posterior creation of Hello! Project (excuse me to be a little out of this more academically moment to say that I love this conglomerate), this also started to bring the “Idols warring period” アイドル戦国時代 (which i’m not clear if it continues today) getting groups like AKB48 in 2002 (and posteriorly their sister groups), and having more groups since 2010 like Momoiro Clover Z, Dempagumi.inc, and more.

  This was a short history about idols, must say that Johnny’s Entertainement are STILL relevant today, yes, since the 60’s.

Anyways the idol industry is big in history, and in variety, this is a message to promote you to listen and hopefully you find one that fits to you liking.

Today I’ll review the anime I watched because one of my favorite idols had a character in…

  LET’S START

First of all, the anime is a Light Novel adaptation, the novel titled “Shine Post: Nee Shitteta? Watashi wo Zettai Idol ni Suru Tame no, Goku Futsuu de Atarimae na, Tobikkiri no Mahou”... I cannot say a lot about this point, I wish I was able to found it translated to english or spanish.

Moving on, I’ll try to not spoil it, but the supernatural tag MyAnimeList gives us is really intriguing at first; it has its reason to exist, and is pretty good, not really heavy, but it helps a lot to understand the characters.

To resume it, is that a group called TiNgS is going to reach their first anniversary and haven’t being able to fill yet a live house

 (being this the smaller spaces to have a concert) while their rival group who debuted basically at the same time, HY:RAIN, has a confirmed Nippon Budokan concert (we know thanks to OshiBudo this place is IMPORTANT to idols), so TiNgS got a mission, to be able to fill the Nakano Sun Plaza’s concert hall or they would disband, 

to reach this mission they get a manager, it seems a bit weird to me they didn’t have one, but anyways, this manager will help them to release the best of each member to complete the mission.

    I said I watched it because of an idol voicing a character in it, 

but I must say I got trapped by the story way before her voice appeared in the anime, so, IS A GOOD ANIME.

  Shows a lot of effort from chika idols to reach their dreams, and at the same time their problems, specially thanks to this supernatural point, when you realize what it does, you can understand all the story as it is going towards the climax of the episode.

  We see the girls rehearsal, handing pamphlets of their concerts, 

planning what to do with their manager, and even working their own self-trust, on the trust of their group mates.

We also get flashbacks about why they are there, why they decided to become idols (spoiler alert: it’s because of an idol).

And going towards the 9th episode IS ALL SO WOW, you get it in the 8th, but it flows nicely in my opinion.

Story wise, I would lie if i say i didn’t cry or i didn’t get mad (I’m really mad at one specific character, but isn’t that mean, is in a way understandable, but still kinda mean). I really recommend it.

The songs are good! From TINGS (this way to write the group’s name is a hint for the story); and also from HY:RAIN, and i’m not saying this being “biased” but i like a bit more HY:RAIN’s songs.

The animation is nice, the way they used the 3D for dance scenes is, in my opinion, nice. I just have one thing I dislike; and is the fact that I DON’T SEE ANY MICROPHONE! not even diadem ones.

  This one is the exception about microphones.

The images we got at some endings I find amazing, some are like Paris themed.

  The SHINEPOST twitter account gives us 1koma, which amplifies (i want to think so) the lore, or at least I think so. And those are SO CUTE and funny, even though I don’t understand most of them!

Character development is good.

I gave it a 9/10 on MyAnimeList, but I think it might be 10 sometimes.

  Do you want to ask me if there’s anything (in slang) fruity? Well, I want to say no, because… I don’t have any reason really, I just (and surprisingly enough) didn’t had a medium amount of focus to even make up ships, but! the friendship that Momiji and Rio have is so pure and lovely.

 And Yukine is like a mom for TINGS, always helping in even the most ordinary things. 

Aoba (even tho small amount of screen time) is for real a big sister (like, really she has her own little sister in her group) but also mom-like i think. 

I'd say they’re all family, and the interactions between both (and others) groups that the 1koma give us have that energy.

This was the song vibe I originally had for my idol ocs Q and Track, but now that I’ve kind of changed up their designs and fleshed out their plot I’m thinking about changing their music to a more mature or emotional feel….but I’m not sure what exact songs it would be. I’ll have to think about it. God-ish still definitely stands for Q though, maybe Zettai Koakuma Code as a duet for them aswell….

Do you have any idea about what series could it be?? (asking as you seem knowledgeable about bls)

Has a musical intro where they have guitars but it’s not about music. 

Ocean Likes Me has a musician love interest and a bit with a band but was actually more about the chef character.

Rainbow Prince is basically a Disney musical. But I don’t count that as music. 

Are you thinking of Close Friend 2 (OhmFluke & KimCop)? That one featured and idol (Kim) his secret BF (Cop), a song producer (Ohm) and his secret boyfriend (Fluke) who was also and intern at the music company. That’s the only one I can think of. It didn’t make mush of a splash on Tumblr though ‘cause it was awful hard to get hold of. 

Cutie Pie featured one main characters as a singer, it was part of the plot, although not a big part. There were quite a few music club scenes. Are you thinking of that?  

Really a lot of this year have been food and medical settings.

2021 had Given and a few others, but I can’t think of any that had a lesbian character. 

You aren’t thinking of Bad Buddy right? I mean there’s a boy with a guitar, because Thailand. And def lesbians. And def made a big splash. But I wouldn’t say it was about music.

Baby Metal History

BABY METAL awalnya merupakan grup vokal dan tari beraliran exprimental metal asal Jepang yang terbentuk pada tahun 2010 sebagai sub-unit dari grup idola SAKURA GAKUIN di Jepang.

Grup ini terdiri dari 3 gadis sekolah di antaranya

Suzuka Nakamoto (中元 すず香) atau yang lebih dikenal dengan sebutan SU-METAL di posisi Vocal & Dance, lahir di Hiroshima pada tanggal 20 Desember 1997.

Moa Kikuchi (菊地 最愛) atau yang lebih dikenal dengan sebutan MOAMETAL di posisi Scream & Dance, lahir di Kanagawa pada tanggal 20 Juni 1999.

Yui Mizuno (水野 由結) atau yang lebih dikenal dengan sebutan YUIMETAL di posisi Scream & Dance, lahir di Aichi pada tanggal 4 Juli 1999.

Album mereka berhasil menempati peringkat ke-4 di tangga lagu album mingguan Oricon, dengan total sejumlah 37.463 kopi terjual di Jepang di minggu pertama, peringkat ke-2 di tangga lagu album Billboard Japan dan peringkat ke-187 di Billboard 200 Amerika Serikat yang merupakan salah satu posisi tertinggi yang pernah dicapai oleh album Jepang di chart tersebut sampai saat ini.

2010 - 2012

Grup ini pertama kali dibentuk pada 2010 sebagai sub unit grup idol perempuan di jepang yang bernama Sakura Gakuin, yang bertujuan untuk mewujudkan sebuah gabungan idol dan musik metal. Bahkan saat grup Baby Metal terbentuk, ketiga anggota tersebut (Su, Moa & Yui) sebelumnya tidak ada yang tahu apa itu musik metal.

Baby Metal pertama kali tampil secara live pada 28 November 2010, di konser solo pertama Sakura Gakuin. Lagu pertama mereka adalah "Doki Doki Morning" yang sebenarnya diterbitkan pada April 2011 dalam album Sakura Gakuin 2010 Nendo : Message.

Pada bulan Juli 2011, Babymetal memulai debut mereka dengan lagu, "Ijime, Dame, Zettai" (" tidak ada lagi pelecehan"), yang dibawakan dalam konser Sakura Gakuin, tetapi lagu itu hanya dinyanyikan selama konser live pada waktu itu. Video musik pertama mereka adalah "Doki Doki Morning" yang diterbitkan oleh channel Toy`s Factory di Youtube pada 12 Oktober 2011. video officialnya bisa dilihat "DI SINI"

Pada bulan Oktober 2011, Baby Metal membuat sebuah video musik untuk lagunya dalam bentuk DVD single yang ditujukan untuk distribusi terbatas [penampilan live saja]. Setelah diunggah ke Youtube pada bulan yang sama, bertepatan pada akhir 2012 penonton video mencapai 1 juta views.

Single CD Babymetal yang pertama kali adalah hits kolaborasi dengan sebuah band bernama Akiba, yang berjudul "Babymetal × Kiba of Akiba". Diterbitkan dalam sebuah sublabel Toy`s Factory (Jūonbu Records).

Pada Maret 2012, lagu tersebut menduduki peringkat ketiga pada tangga lagu Oricon weekly indie chart dan nomor satu di Tower Records Shibuya weekly indie ranking.

Pada Juli 2012, Babymetal merilis sebuah lagu yang berjudul "Headbanger". Video musik untuk trek judul disutradarai oleh Hidenobu tanabe .

Pada Agustus 2012, Babymetal memulai debutnya di Japan's Summer Sonic Festival. Dengan usia rata - rata 12 tahun, band ini menjadi penampilan termuda yang pernah muncul disana.

2012 juga menandai tour Asia pertamanya ke luar Jepang untuk pertama kalinya di AFA 2012 Singapura.

2013 - 2015

Pada Januari 2013, band ini memulai debutnya pada label rekaman utamanya dengan "Ijime, Dame, Zettai" video officialnya bisa dilihat "DI SINI". Single ini terjual mencapai angka 19,000 kopi lagu dalam minggu pertamanya dan menduduki peringkat ke 6 di tangga lagu Oricon weekly indie chart.

Pada musim semi 2013, Nakamoto lulus dari pendidikan menengah atasnya dan kemudian harus "lulus" dari Sakura Gakuin (sebuah grup perempuan tingkat dasar dan menengah atas). Walaupun begitu, manajemen mereka memutuskan bahwa babymetal tidak akan bubar dan akan melanjutkan aktivitasnya sebagai sebuah band.

Grup ini merilis single lanjut mereka, "Megitsune" video officialnya bisa dilihat "DI SINI", pada 19 Juni, diikuti bulan November dengan perilisan video secara Live Live: Legend I, D, Z Apocalyps, yang mana menduduki tempat ke tujuh dalam the weekly Oricon Blu-ray Disc charts, dan tempat kedua di antara single Blu-ray lainnya.

Pada 10 dan 11 Agustus 2013, babymetal mengambil bagian lagi dalam Summer Sonic Festival, yang tampil di dua tempat yaitu Tokyo dan Osaka.

Kemudian, pada Oktober 2013, Babymetal juga menjadi penampilan termuda yang pernah muncul di heavy metal music festival Loud Park.

Pada Bulan November 2013, Babymetal merilis sebuah video promo untuk debut film Metallica di Jepang Through the Never. Dan mendekati akhir 2013 babymetal melakukan tour Asia lainnya di Indonesia pada AFAID 2013 dan kedua kalinya di Singapura setelah tour asia di luar negeri pertama mereka pada 2012.

Pada 26 Februari 2014, babymetal merilis album self-titled perdananya. album tersebut berisi 13 trek lagu dan juga tersedia dlam edisi terbatas termasuk DVD dengan Video musik dan penampilan live.

Album ini sangat diterima dengan sangat baik oleh kritikus musik dan publik, terjual sebesar 37,000 kopi di Jepang pada minggu pertamanya, menduduki peringkat 4 di tangga lagu Oricon dan Billboard Japan.

Album ini juga menduduki posisi terbaik di iTunes Metal charts di Jerman, Inggris, dan Amerika, dan mencapai urutan 187 pada US Billboard 200 chart pada 22 Maret; hanya sedikit artis Jepang yang pernah masuk di tangga lagu ini.

Album mereka juga berhasil masuk ke dalam Heatseekers chart di urutan ke 4. pada 1 dan 2 Maret 2014, band ini menampilakn 2 konser di Budokan. Dengan rata - rata usia 14 tahun. mereka menjadi penampilan termuda yang pernah melakukan konser disana. Dua konser tersebut dihadiri 20,000 orang.

Pada 3 April 2014, video reaksi Youtube dengan terkejut diunggah oleh Fine Brothers channeldi Youtube tentang video musik "Doki Doki Morning", "line!", and "Gimme Chocolate!!". Pada 30 April 2016, video reaksi Babymetal untuk reaksi mereka di rilis di Youtube.

Band Pendukung "Baby Metal" disaat Live performance didukung oleh sebuah grup pendukung bernama "Kami-Band" yang tampil dengan dandanan ala mayat, dengan formasi dua gitaris, satu bassis dan seorang drummer yang biasanya tampil dalam satu panggung selama acara.

“Shine Post” The TV Anime Announces Supporting Cast

The official website for Rakuda's Shine Post: Nee Shitteta?, the television anime version of Rakuda's Shine Post. Shine Post: Did You Know? Goku Futsuu de Atarimae na, to Bikkiri no Mahou, Watashi wa Zettai Idol ni Suru Tame no On Tuesday, the light novel (The Most Ordinary, Natural, and Unique Magic to Make Me an Absolute Idol) introduced a new cast and a significant visual. The anime will air on NTV and BS NTV's AnichU programming block in July 2022.

Anime Update V2 23

Noragami Aragoto - Hiyori got back her memories of Yato and Yukine back all of a sudden, making me wonder all the more what the point of that amnesia episode even was. Ebisu wants to control Phantoms in order to turn them into assets for humanity to prevent misfortune. Kazuma frees the Gods of Fortune while Hiyori and Yukine head to Underworld, where Ebisu (who we find out had been working together with Hiiro for some time, much to Yato's dismay) is ensnared by his demented mother. Yato too might be ensnared if he insists on rescuing him...

Hunter x Hunter - Got down to some Nen Training at the Arena Tower. Events were pretty much the same between both versions, though I gotta say that Master Wing’s voice in the first series’ dub does not suit him. He sounds like a Paul Eiding character, which doesn’t fit the design nearly as well as Ezra Weisz does in the later series’ dub. On the flipside, the voice for that sexy pale skinned lady with the piercings sounded better in the 1999 dub vs the 2011 dub.

Fruits Basket - Not much to compare between the episodes that introduce Ayame Sohma since, again, they were pretty much the same between both versions. The following episodes, however...

2001: For whatever reason, this anime swapped the order of events so that Momiji revealing his past to Tohru at the hospital came after the cemetary picnic instead of the night prior to it. It works, but makes the episode feel like two separate stories in both acts that just share a common theme. And between this and the Tale Of The Most Foolish Traveler, Kimberly Grant clearly did her best voice acting in quiet, subdued moments rather than forced pushes for extravaggent emotion. Still sounds girly, but at least she made me feel things!

2019: When I saw that the Momiji content was ocurring midway through the episode, I was actually worried it’d throw me off, like early into the episode was spent preparing for the anniversary of Kyoko’s death but then this Momiji stuff interrupts and then it’s back to focus on Kyoko’s death at the cemetary! But this time what tied it all together was something the first anime didn’t show since they cut these subplots out entirely - Yuki remembers that he was the boy who’d given Tohru the baseball cap as he led her back to her mother all those years ago, while Kyo, for whatever reason, tells a sleeping Tohru that “he’s sorry.” Based on a repressed memory, perhaps?

Rozen Maiden - Watched the first two episodes of the second season, where Jun and his doll companions are just living what’s become their normal lives except that Shinku is plagued by guilt-induced nightmares concerning Suigintou, the 7th Rozen Maiden doll, Barasuishou, appears before her and Jun, as does a Hisoka-sounding white rabbit demon, and there’s a shady pair of men in town running a doll-maker shop. And clearly, these will all connect!

Revolutionary Girl Utena - Sailor Moon alumni are true masters at Formula. Saw it in Sailor Moon itself, saw it in Star Driver, and it’s just as apparant in Utena - we’ve still got the fruity Student Council meetings up high with the random background shit that goes on, the weird ass shadow plays, and the duels, we previously had the Mikage Seminar elevator rides and Utena’s regular therapy sessions with Akio, and we now have Akio and Touga giving people nightly rides across the streetlight-lit highway in Akio’s car, where those given the ride realize that Akio is End Of The World but don’t actually get to say that. Speaking of Akio, holy shit he is just a loathsome, incestuous rapist and an abuser as well as a master manipulator and I want to see that car crash so he can die in a fire. Duels I’ve seen so far were against Saionji and Miki, and they’ve actually changed up the ZETTAI! UNMEI! MOKUSHIROKU! segments so that Utena takes an elevator up with Anthy rather than climb that stairway, and the song itself has been remixed. We’re definitely in the third inning!

Love Live! Nijigasaki School Idol Club S2 - Got the time for three episodes of this, all of them serving to reinforce yet again how much better this season is compared to both the first season and the ALL STARS source material. The first one centered around Shioriko, delving into why she was put off of wanting to pursue a School Idol career and what pushes her to finally give it a try, the second one wrapped up the Idol Festival with not only another astonishing and badass moment from Lanzhu and some great character growth for Yu, but a truly magical number from the whole club, and finally came Episode 9, which true to the original series’ form, was the best one seen yet. Not only did it deliver a climax and payoff for Lanzhu’s arc, but it gave us more from her American composer friend Mia Taylor, who turns out is a bigger jerk than Lanzhu in a lot of ways and so lacking in self worth that she can’t detach Lanzhu’s career from her own, but once inspired by a talk with Rina, she’s able redefine herself, her dream, and the career path she wants to take while also convincing Lanzhu to not give up on her own dreams and career. No longer are they business partners, but friends/rivals as School Idols.

The climax at the airport really got to me on an emotional level. It was sort of like an inversion of the original series’ first season finale’s notoriously bullshit climax where rather than one girl being selfish in stopping a friend from leaving, it’s all the girls stopping Lanzhu from leaving due to selfish and cowardly reasons. She’d insisted on being a “solo idol” who keeps herself in an invisible circle to lord over all others outside of it that she wouldn’t let in close to her not because she really believed that was the best approach for an idol - she was convinced that anyone she let get close would end up leaving her anyway, so this was a coping mechanism to ease loneliness. The point made about Lanzhu also works on a meta level - just as she was she the push needed to improve the Idol Club and make them all better idols, she was the key piece needed to make this pale Jukki Hanada imitation into a good Love Live! series in its own right.

Also, Mia’s musical number blew my mind. She sings American!

MAR - In the interval period between rounds of the War Games, we got some key moments like Ginta revealing to everyone what he’d learned during his training - that he is the son of The Boss, Nanashi’s past and why he fights the Chess Pieces revealed (and we finally addressed those two thieves who work for him - I really don’t get why they were such a thing early in the series only to totally fizzle out of prominence once Nanashi was introduced), and Phantom sets a cruel trap for Ginta where he returns to him as his “Tom” character, on the run from the Chess Pieces and scared out of his mind, only for Peta to “kill” him right in front of Ginta, all to fuel his emotionaly fury at the Chess Pieces as he’s to continue fighting them so that the inevitable knife twist when he finally does face Phantom will hurt more. Completely arbitary sadism. Fuck you, Phantom. Burn in Hell!

AMC: Moriarty The Patriot - Watched two episodes, “A Rare Breed” and “The Dancer On The Bridge”. And I gotta say, both were the first cases thus far of me thinking “Liam Did Nothing Wrong Here.” The first one was sketchier since it’s a cold-blooded, premeditated murder, but the murder victim (voiced by Chris Sabat) was just such a despicable cretin who was making his servants life Hell and allowed their child to die even when he could’ve saved him, it was hard not to love the heck out of the sweet, cold vengeance that Liam served him. In the second one, there’s no ambiguity at all - Liam didn’t technically “murder” the guy, he had his pal Sebastian Moran shoot around him until he slipped and fell off the bridge to his watery grave all on his own. Dude was also an Asshole Victim who caused an innocent girl to die that exact same way, so it was very karmic.

Happy Sugar Life - The first half of the episode was a different episode altogether from what followed, as it was from the POV of this random douchey, perverted, entitled sketch artist whose apartment Satou and Shio are still living in...because Satou murdered him. It’s his remains that were in those body bags. The second half, as I’d demanded, gave me more Asahi, showing us his budding relationship with Shouko and what a sweet boy he is, making the knowledge of what’s to come and the moral lines he will end up crossing in his obsession with getting his Shio all the more tragic. But the most distressing part was, surprisingly enough, what goes on with Mitsuboshi, a character I can barely stomache yet also feel the most immense pity for due to how damaged and in need of help and healing he is. And in this, he recognizes how fucked up he is and internally vows to clean up his act, and even that he struggles with...but then Satou comes along and preys upon his weakness, making appeals to his pedophilic lust for Shio and promising him that he’ll get to spend close and personal time with her should he assist her in getting rid of Asahi. This girl is so. effing. diabolical, it’s amazing. And then Asahi gets a call related to Shio, from Mitsuboshi no doubt...
