Who are the hostages still held by Hamas?
On October 7, 2023, 253 Israelis and foreign nationals were kidnapped to Gaza by Hamas and gazan civilians. Since then, 105 were released in a prisioner exchange deal, 4 were released by Hamas and 3 were rescued.
However, 134 remain in captivity (4 of those were kidnapped prior to 2023). A recent investigation has concluded that more than a fifth of the hostages are dead and the fate of some other hostages remains unknown. This video explains how doctors determine which hostages are dead, based on the nature of their injury and by analyising footage and the victims' last phone calls. Additionally, during the operation in Gaza, the IDF has recovered the bodies of a few victims and returned to their families for burial.
Since I couldn't find this all in one place, I've compiled a list of: 1) hostages who are presumed alive; 2) hostaged whose death has been reported/confirmed; 3) hostages who were released or rescued. In the group of hostages presumed to be alive who haven't been released, the youngest is 1-year-old Kfir Bibas and the oldest hostage is Iraqi-born 85-year old Shlomo Mansour.
As we learn more information, I'll continue to update this post.
They need to come back home. I'm hoping for more successful rescue operations soon. Keep them in your thoughts.

List of names of the deceased from Netiv HaAsara
Shortly before midnight on Saturday, the names of 15 victims in Netiv HaAsara, a town of less than a thousand people near the Gaza border, were cleared for publication: brothers Amit and Yigal Wax, Oren Stern, Shlomi and his wife Ayelet Molcho, Hevik Segal, Gil Ta'aseh, Adi Baharev, Tal Keren, Ruthi and Aryeh Akuni and their daughter Or, Nurit Berger, Marina Almagor and Danny Vobek.
Vobek, a resident of Netiv HaAsara, had been a volunteer with the ZAKA divers unit for many years. The organization said that "he took part in dozens of rescue missions, dedicated to saving lives and honoring the deceased. During the brutal attack on Netiv HaAsara, Vobek courageously defended his home and friends, ultimately losing his life in the battle against armed terrorists. ZAKA volunteers, alongside the entire nation of Israel, mourn his loss, share in the pain, and extend condolences to his family and loved ones."
Talia Marcelle, from Kiryat Arba, was murdered in the surprise attack on Kibbutz Ein Hashlosha near the Gaza border. A few years ago, Marcelle relocated from the Talia farm in the Hebron hills to Kiryat Arba. She was fatally shot on the kibbutz where she was celebrating the holiday.

Dolev and Odeya Swissa and their two daughters
Dolev and Odeya Swissa were murdered in their hometown of Sderot. They leave behind two young daughters, ages 3 and 7. Dolev, who was shot by terrorists, was found dead Saturday night. A search was conducted throughout the night for his wife Odeya, who was considered missing until her body was discovered in the morning. "We don't know how the girls were saved," said Rehovot Deputy Mayor Zohar Blum, who is married to Dolev's sister. "We woke up to a dark morning."
Blum added, "Following the heart-wrenching news of Dolev's murder and a sleepless night, we have now learned that Odeya, his beloved wife whom we searched for hours, was also mercilessly murdered by the assassins. This young couple's lives were tragically cut short in the war, simply because of their location near the Gaza Strip and the startling ease with which the terrorists invaded their home. A remarkable couple, they leave behind two young, now orphaned, daughters. My heart aches for my wife and her family in Sderot.
Aharon Haimov, a 25-year-old senior paramedic and ambulance driver with Magen David Adom (MDA) from Ofakim, was fatally shot on Saturday morning en route to treat the wounded in his hometown. He is survived by his wife and two children. Haimov began his career with Magen David Adom as a post-high school volunteer before joining the organization in a professional capacity.

Magen David Adom senior medic and ambulance driver Aharon Haimov, 25, of Ofakim was killed on his way to treat injured
“He was a person who put the good of others and the value of life ahead of everything else — including today, on this tragic morning,” said MDA Director-General Eli Bin.
Israel Fire and Rescue Services announced that Kiryat Gat Fire Station Commander Battalion Chief Shalom Tzaban and Senior Firefighter Yevgeny Galsky were also slain in the attack. Tsaban, 60, a father of two, joined the fire brigade in 1992 and was posthumously promoted to fire deputy chief. Galsky, 34, served in the Netivot fire station. He was promoted posthumously to the rank of sergeant firefighter.
Israel Fire and Rescue Services Commissioner Eyal Caspi extended his condolences to the families and commended the firefighters and commanders who were working tirelessly in numerous locations throughout the conflict zone.

The fire brigade on Sunday morning announced the death of Sergeant Major Firefighter Eric Yehuda Marciano, 50, who joined the fire brigade in 1996 and served as a team leader at the Kiryat Gat Fire Station. He is survived by his wife and three children.
His daughter Coral said: "He went on duty, and probably because of the pressure, he forgot his bag at home. I wrote to him, 'Dad, you forgot your bag.' At 7:05am, he told me he would come back to get it and at 7:20 he no longer answered me, he had already encountered the terrorists. Numerous trucks loaded with armed terrorists entered the area. He fought the terrorists and managed to save a child. I knew my father was dead before we were informed; someone saw him dead and sent me a picture. My father is a hero. He was my whole world. He was a father who always put us first, and himself second, placing everyone before him."

[Encoded message from Agent Henri J.Broussais - Badge number AARO 035460 ] The town of Wicked's Rest is peaceful in appearance. It is medium in size. The businesses in town are more varied than the size of the town would suggest, and my two hands aren't enough to count the strange occurrences I have seen on my first day. I will however stick to the parts that you have sent me to investigate :
The most disturbing for the moment, but also the first observation (olfactory) that I was able to make: there emerges from the mines a pestilential odor reminiscent of sulfur and coal. This smell is found all over the city, due to a massive and extensive cave network. I look forward to more clearly establishing a map of the different cellars.
As I find the aspect of these animals rather troubling, you will find attached a photo of the hermit crabs that swarm all over town: they seem to be wearing parts of listed anomaly ME-WR-A184 as a shell. I will catch one and send it to you soon for analysis in the next few days. Please communicate on whether or not you wish for a specimen, and if you do, precise whether you want it dead or alive.
Regards, Agent Broussais, AARO
Henri pressed send. Disconnecting himself from the Department of Defense’s platform, he shut his computer and reached in the ashtray for his cigarette. Standing up to his feet, he headed toward the window. The air purifier he brought alongside him wasn’t precisely doing a good enough job regarding the town’s stench.
The cabin the CIA had gotten him was nothing special. He supposed a miner, in his 30’s, itinerary, without a girl or boy in his life, wouldn’t have had a special place for himself. At least it was quiet here, and it would have enough room for his dog while he was out in the mines.
This cabin reminded him of the small house he had grown up in, in the Reno suburbs. With the kind of father he had, you wouldn't expect to ever have anything nice. Whatever money his father earned in cons was usually lost in gambling rather than invested into his son’s education, for instance. The only thing Henri’s father had ever taught him was how to swindle poor sods, naive and clairvoyant alike. He was quite good at it. Though it was not hereditary, he certainly had inherited those skills from his father. What a bitter thought that was. Home was a place he rejected, a place he never wished to return to. It was a place both empty and full of failure, a void he couldn’t ever fully escape, even after all these years. It showed in the way he couldn’t trust anyone fully, in the way he always felt a need to find the catch. If it had done its load of damage to any relationship he had tried to pursue, it did wonders for his career, and he had figured that this was probably the best he could get from life. It was easier this way.
Taking a glance at the red, beat up pick up truck parked in the driveway took him out of his torpor. Right. He needed to shop for groceries. He supposed that would allow him to get another look at the town. You could learn a bunch of things looking at people. The supermarket was a good spot for him to get an idea of the general mood. He could only hope the produce wouldn’t share the town’s stench. “Alright Buddy,” he gave his dog a glance while he picked up his baseball cap from his chair. It was nothing Henri liked to wear, but he supposed Elijah liked looking like a jackass with floppy hair, drinking beer at the counter and playing pool. A baseball cap was mandatory. This was the kind of job where he would be able to only rely on his wits. He wouldn’t be walking around with a badge and a gun attached to his belt or concealed in his back, under his shirt. It would be him, his mind and the whirlwind of emotions he’d perceive from those he interrogated. Getting a fucking read on that couldn’t be harder here than it was else where. Heh, it wasn’t his first rodeo in a supernatural hotspot. He’d be fine. “You wanna get shotgun?” Opening the passenger door for the golden retriever, he took one last look around and then, he was on his way.

MISSING !! HAVE YOU SEEN THEM ? cyrek fawn ( lee donghae ) is looking for : their bassist of their punk rock group.
MISSING !! HAVE YOU SEEN THEM ? boo sol-ip ( kim heechul ) is looking for : two theatre co-stars & a roommate.
( contact required first : YES / NO, nxnbinarydracvla ) cyrek fawn ( lee donghae ) has been searching for their bassist. if asked, they would describe their relationship as close-knit, they’ve known each other since 2015 when vain rogues and the ghost orchestra was formed. they’re loyal to one another and there’s trust there as the band have seen cyrek’s ups and downs through the years and the objective of the band is merely self-expression and having fun over profit, as it’s a lowkey underground punk rock group. in the town’s files, they are illustrated to be around the age of 28+ and look eerily similar to levy tran, lex scott davis, melisa asli pamuk, riz ahmed, mena massoud, aditi rao hydari, win metawin, reina hardesty, whoever fits the vibe for you!
( contact required first : YES / NO, scyboo ) sol-ip 'ziv' boo ( kim heechul ) has been searching for their roommate. if asked, they would describe their relationship as a fond cohabitation; they live in the spare room of ziv's penthouse and have lived there anywhere from 2-5 years ago when ziv moved from los angeles to focus on recovering from their amputation. ziv isn't home often and hires a housekeeper for the cleaning, but when they aren't working or spending time with their partner, they like having dinner with their roommate, with whom they share some mutual interests and compatible personality. this person would get to see their less guarded side more. in the town’s files, they are illustrated to be around the age of 33-40 and look eerily similar to harvey guillen would be amazing for this, but utp!
( contact required first : YES / NO, scyboo ) sol-ip 'ziv' boo ( kim heechul ) has been searching for their two co-stars. if asked, they would describe their relationship as they’re familiar with acting and being cast together in several roles, and have either become close over the years or been rivals for snagging roles. in the town’s files, they are illustrated to be around the age of 28+ and look eerily similar to imani lewis, drew ray tanner, pedro vinicius, hanse, zazie beetz, justin cornwell, renata notni, t'nia miller, utp.

Apprentice April!
I wanted to participate in this, so I thought I’d start off with an introduction to Ziv, using the ask list from April first!
1. The Basics.  What is your character’s name?  How old are they?  How tall are they?  Skin color?  Eye color?  Hair color?  Gender identification?
Ziv Paz Levi, they/them, nonbinary, roughly 5"7', 25, olive skin, sea green eyes, mouse brown hair (usually in a long braid, also they have pointed ears!)
2.  Love Interest.  Who does your character love?  What attracted them to that particular LI?
Asra! Before the plague, Ziv and Asra have known each other since childhood. It was a natural growth from friendship to more. After they're brought back... it's just a draw to him. Like home.
3. Familiar.  Does your character have a familiar?  How did they meet?
They do! A shapeshifter with a preference for bird forms named Nitzan!
4. Hobbies.  What kinds of things does your character like to do for fun?
Baking, swimming, running along the sand. They're from Nopal, so anything outside and in the sun feels nostalgic for them.
5. Hidden talents.  Is there something neat that your character can do?  Tie a cherry stem into a knot with their tongue?  Say any word backwards perfectly?
Voice mimicry. If they hear someone speaking long enough, they can copy them perfectly.
6. Magical talents.  Is there a specific type of magic that your character excels at?  Any magic they aren’t so great at?  Or do they actually shy away from magic altogether?
Enjoys water magic the best, but excels at pyrokenesis to their chagrin. Ziv is afraid of fire. Also fairly empathic, but keeps themselves closed off for the most part.
7. Interaction.  How does your character typically interact with people?
They are very comfortable with most people, and will be friendly as long as the other person is friendly. If they like you, they warm up. If not, you will never get further with them than "civility".
8. Romance.  What is something that your character and their LI love to do together?  How do they show affection?
Ziv's love language is physical touch. So randomly taking Asra's hand, idly playing with his fingers while laying in his lap as he reads. They do like cooking together, and dancing, and for special occasions they go out for a boat ride and bring a picnic.
9. Travel.  Does your character like to travel outside of Vesuvia?  How often?  For how long?  What kinds of things do they do away from home?
They haven't really traveled outside Vesuvia and Nopal. They grew up in Nopal and know the area really well. After the main games events they get Asra to travel with them up thereat least every other month.
10. WTF.  Has anything just…weird ever happened to your character?  Something that made them stop and go “What just happened?!”
The first time they used magic was a pure accident! About five years old, they were playing by the fire with their parents sitting by them, and suddenly the fire was in their hands! Then it wasn't! Then it was! Two years later they were sent to live with their aunt in Vesuvia during the summers, to learn to control their gift.
11. Crime.  Has your character ever been arrested?  If so, what did they do?  Have they ever helped stop a crime?
When Ziv would be in Vesuvia, they were a little rascal. Their aunt had a lot of connections, and was well respected. That being said... Ziv would regularly "steal" (they went back later with money or good to exchange) from the merchants that knew them and give the food to Asra and Muriel. Of course there was one time they got caught by the guards... and auntie came to the rescue before they could be hauled off to the palace.
12. Secrets.  What is a secret that your character has?  Are they in line for the throne in a far off land?  Was there this one time at band camp…?  Are they secretly involved in an assassin’s guild?
Ziv is part fae. Or something. Their father never said exactly what extra blood that side of the family has, but they all have some strange feature that they have to play off. Ziv has pointed ears. Their father had cat-like eyes. Their aunt had skin that glistened in moonlight. It goes back generations, but almost no one outside the family knows about it. It's part of why their magic is so strong and shows so early.
13. Overcompensation.  Is there something that your character just HAS to do better than anyone else?  Or are they just that dang good without trying?  If they see someone else showing off, what is their kneejerk reaction?
Quietly fume and walk away. They don't like show offs who do it just for show. Showing off out of pride, or to get money, sure. They get that. But just because you can? Ick. If they decide they want to be the best at something, they just keep working at it. Usually their only competition is Asra, and that's more fun than rivalry.
14. Fight Club.  Is your character a good fighter?  What kind of skills do they have?
First reaction: Shield. Second reaction: Fireball to the face. Third reaction: Run.
15. The Arts.  Is your character a creative type?  What kinds of things can they create?  Can they act?  Street perform?
Ziv is good with their hands for certain crafts. Making charms and wind chimes or window hangings. Things that are made for the sunlight and wind to play with.
16. Goofy.  Is your character a clown?  Do they like to make people laugh?
Definitely not a clown, but once they know you, they can make you laugh. It's very personal, and it's very them.
17. Language.  Is your character multilingual?  How many languages do they speak?  Do they have an accent?  Is it sexy?  Is it silly?  Do they have a multilingual lisp?
Asra finds it sexy. Ziv does speak both Vesuvian and Nopalese. Thier first language does give them a slight accent, similar to welsh accents.
18. Embarrassment.  What is something really embarrassing that your character has done/said?
The first time they met Asra after staying in Nopal for about five years. It was the masquerade, and they bumped into his table behind their aunts shop. They turned around and recognized him after a moment of staring and said something like "Well you just walked out of my childhood dreams." And immediately died on the spot as Asra giggled.
19. Memory.  Has your character gotten any of their memory back?  If so, what?  Did it change them?
In their upright ending, Ziv does regain their memories. They and Asra spend a lot of time in the Arcana realms working to figure out a way for them to remember and also a way to control their new gifts properly. Eventually, they wake up and everything is... there. It didn't change them that much, but it definitely helps them feel more whole. And they are able to track down their family because of it.
20. Family.  Talk about your character’s family.  Who were they?
Their parents were Agam and Ori Levi. Agam dies of the plague around the same time Ziv did, but Ori survived. Agam and his sister Ahava were twins, and magicians. Ahava - Ziv's aunt in Vesuvia - left Nopal to make a name for herself, while Agam stayed behind to help the community. Ori comes from a large family, and Ziv has A Lot of cousins. Most of them are chattel farmers, or cactus farmers. Although some potters run through as the family rebels.
