Yukino & Star Dresses

Disclaimer: This is not a Yukino hate post. This is solely my opinion

I don’t think Yukino should have Star Dresses in 100 YQ

Lucy earned hers with a lot of hard work and sacrifice. I’m not saying Yukino didn’t work hard or anything but it is nothing compared to Lucy

Lucy sacrificed Aquarius to save literally everything and everyone. She was granted the first Star Dress (Aquarius) for her dedication and sacrifice from the Celestial Spirit King (who calls her his “old friend” and clearly has some admiration for her relationship with her spirits).

Aquarius was one of Lucy original golden keys. She was there during the hardships she faced with Jude after Layla’s death. She made Lucy feel less alone and loved!! Despite everything Aquarius says, she loves her like a child and gave her the opportunity to summon the King to save her guildmates. She knows that Lucy will be more alone and suffer if she didn’t make that choice. Ifeel like that deep connection demonstrates what Lucy is capable of.

I feel like Yukino having Star Dress severely down plays Lucy and her strength as a mage. Lucy deserved her powers beyond what she is shown for. Yukino has a good reputation and relationship as a celestial mage however Lucy considers her spirits as friends and worked hard so she doesn’t have to be put in a position where she needs to sacrifice them again.

I’m glad to see the two remaining Star Dresses but I feel like Yukino should’ve had some kind of test or situation where she needed to tap into that power like Lucy

yes give me the tatsumi rant

god okay so like we know Tatsumi is Christian it's a pretty important part of his character that he is like in his first feature scout story he mentions that he wanted to wear his father's vestments but was scolded for it because they are something that you have to be serious about like this is the most obvious thing anyone would know by looking at Tatsumi.

HOWEVERRRRRR since a lot of Western fans only really think of Christianity as like. Southern Baptist/Mormonism/Jehovah's Witnesses/Extreme Catholicism and like yeahhhhhh those sects are not Great but that's not all there is to Christianity as a religion. I went to an Episcopal service a few weeks ago and it was very fascinating how different it was to the Southern Baptist youth group I attended as a child. But Tatsumi does not follow any sort of American Protestant denomination because he doesn't fucking live here. He's a religious minority in his own country holy fucking shit.

Anyway there is ample evidence within even what has been officially translated that Tatsumi is a chill guy. In the current gacha story Ushimairi pt. 2 we get to see his first interactions with Koga right after moving in and he's literally.

They're chill!!! They're chill and they get along just fine. Koga asks about if Tatsumi thinks dogs are dirty because of his religion right after this and Tatsumi explains that it was because of the historical context and that stray dogs had rabies which is a completely valid reason to not want to like. Interact with dogs, but it's completely fine now because most dogs aren't walking around with rabies!!!

He's also stated that he believes he's going to hell before and that he's accepted that fact but he still believes in God anyway (and he has a conflict of faith later on where he debates if he even still believes or not). He would not be a bigot he wants to accept everyone as they are that's literally why he had the fucking revolution at Reimei over his belief in equality. Goes insane.

Anyway I haven't read most Tatsumi stories I stated in my last post I do not actually care about him all that much because he doesn't appeal to me as a character but mischaracterization on this level drives me up the wall like we are not reading the same stories we are not playing the same game clearly.

gender. swapping. shun.

you know who would have made a good choice for genderswapping? ikki. that would have been a statement. that would have been real feminism, with ikki being shun's protector and we would have had lesbian pining for esmeralda and ikki not wearing a mask would have been pinned on his outlier attitude and would have made sense within canon. plus imagine girl! ikki. just imagine it.

also shame on the writers and producers who thought that turning shun--a canonically kind, caring, selfless and pacifist MALE character, challenging gender norms by crying and showing you can be a boy and love your friends and hug your brother and whatnot--into a woman WITHOUT A MASK thus sending the marin plotline to shit and the shaina one too

i think when talking about Shigure, it's important to note that he was constantly operating under the assumption that the curse would eventually break on its own. he saw Kureno's curse break with no outside interference, and he's spent enough time with Akito to know that her hold on the curse is greatly weakened. in Shigure's mind, the curse was on its way out: it could break in twenty years, or ten, or maybe even as little as five. his efforts are just a way to speed up the process so he can be with Akito quicker (and to save the other zodiac members but that's not really his big priority). so while he 100% took the most selfish route by catering to his own plans instead of helping the other zodiacs survive the curse, his personal justification was likely "it will eventually break anyway so all of the zodiacs will be freed regardless of my interference" instead of just "i don't care about the other zodiacs so they can go ahead and rot."

#real talk i don't think shigure would've put up with half of akito's shit if there wasn't a failsafe built in #he may be a selfish jerk but he's not an outright monster #if it looked like the curse was going to be a lifelong thing he would've stepped in more to help #but the time limit on the curse allowed him to justify standing back and watching #bc it would've been over soon anyway so what did it matter if he played his games in the meantime?#and again. that's selfish and cowardly behavior #hence why shigure is so frustrating bc there's always a seed of good in his actions that's wrapped up in so many shitty layers #but i firmly believe shigure does care ab the other zodiacs and wouldn't have abandoned them to a fully-powered curse #fruits basket #shigure sohma #sage speaketh #analysis #edited for your convenience #(<-capitalized the names)

i have like a severe interest in archaeoastronomy and firsthand observations of the night sky and the techniques that humans have been using to observe for like utter millennia. and so this had led me to a weird position where even among my fellow astronomy people i'm like, too knowledgeable about certain aspects of it such that none of them know wtf i'm talking about. like yeah my one coworker will make a metaphor and say that something is like an oscilloscope, and we all nod our heads and agree because we all know what an oscilloscope is and have done experiments using one. but if i mention like, the nebra sky disc. i'm the only one who gets it
