Propaganda
Lauren Bacall (To Have and Have Not, The Big Sleep, Key Largo)—"Just put your lips together...and blow" excuse me ma'am i'm briefly going to turn into a kettle. She's the quintessential Femme Fatale who may betray me in the end but I'd let her it'd be worth it
Laraine Day (Foreign Correspondent, Mr. Lucky)—no propaganda submitted
This is round 1 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.
[additional propaganda submitted under the cut.]
Laraine Day:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lauren Bacall:
Tumblr media
"The VOICE, the SLINK, the EYES. Woof."
"Lauren Bacall was a major lesbian awakening for me. Every picture of her makes it look like she’s about to destroy you physically and emotionally (why is that so hot, I may need help). She had incredible long running chemistry with her husband, Humphrey Bogart, but was an absolute star in her own right. I’ll never be over my crush on her."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"She's got that confident, no-nonsense air about her. She's a boss babe who knows what she wants and gets it DONE. Staunch liberal Democrat her whole life. Campaigned for RFK. From Wikipedia: "In a 2005 interview with Larry King, Bacall described herself as "anti-Republican... A liberal. The L-word". She added that "being a liberal is the best thing on Earth you can be. You are welcoming to everyone when you're a liberal. You do not have a small mind."" Beautiful hair. Beautiful eyes. Beautiful lips. She's just beauty. LISTEN TO HER VOICE. TELL ME THAT'S NOT THE STUFF THAT DREAMS ARE MADE OF."
Tumblr media
"A gorgeous lady inside and out. One half of an absolute power couple with Humphrey Bogart, tended to him and other actors suffering from malaria whilst filming the African Queen, generally radiated grace and poise throughout her life. Also her last role was in Family Guy so she needs justice for that"
Tumblr media
"HER VOICE. Like yeah, she was absolutely stunning but oh my god, I'm obsessed with her voice"
"She was stunning. Tall and beautiful with a distinctive voice and able to carry her own in a male dominated field. She won the heart of millions, including one of Hollywood's most iconic leading men, Humphrey Bogart. Their story was the stuff of legends, and the chemistry between them was apparent in the multiple films they started in together. She personified the film noir dame and yet she also adapted as Hollywood changed. Her career spanned decades, and she was honored multiple times."
youtube
"She is soooo neat. And hot. And everything. That one scene in To Have and Have Not where she says "you know how to whistle don't you? You just put your lips together and blow" altered my brain chemistry during media archaeology class and here we are."

vedic astro observations pt 3
in my previous post i had mentioned how some of the most famous mistresses/concubines/courtesans/women involved in adultery in real life or played such roles on screen often have Pushya or Punarvasu placements. here i'll be providing more example<3
Tumblr media
Meena Kumari often played the "Other Woman" in her movies and here she is in her most famous role, playing a courtesan. She has Pushya sun and mercury
Tumblr media
Elisabeth Moss plays a concubine in her most well known role in The Handmaiden. she has Pushya sun & mercury
Tumblr media
Nicole Kidman played a courtesan in the iconic movie Moulin Rouge. She has punarvasu mercury atmakaraka and Pushya jupiter
Tumblr media
Zhang Ziyi's most well known roles involve her playing a courtesan (Memoirs of a Geisha, House of Flying Daggers etc). She has Punarvasu moon
Tumblr media
Bina Rai played the legendary courtesan Anarkali in the film of the same name in her most well known role. She has Punarvasu sun, Pushya mercury and jupiter
Tumblr media
Hema Malini, Pushya rising was the real life mistress of her now husband Dharmendra. She also played a courtesan in the movie Sharafat
Tumblr media
Rani Mukerji had an affair with the much married film producer Aditya Chopra which led to him separating from his wife. Rani has Mars in Punarvasu as her atmakaraka. She also has mercury and venus in Revati, which according to Claire Nakti is a nakshatra that features prominently in the charts of many "home wreckers".
Tumblr media
Zeenat Aman had an affair with Sanjay Khan while he was married. The two even got married but things ended really poorly for Zeenat
(i dont want to mention it but you can google it). Zeenat is Punarvasu moon.
Tumblr media
Lara Dutta and tennis icon, Mahesh Bhupathi started seeing each other when he was still married to his now ex-wife. Lara has Pushya moon and mars.
Tumblr media
Sarika and Kamal Hassan had an affair while he was still married to Vani Ganapathy, leading to their split. Sarika has Mars in Punarvasu as her amatyakaraka. Her birth time is unconfirmed so she's either Ardra or Punarvasu moon
Tumblr media
in a similar vein, Shilpa Shetty first started seeing Raj Kundra when he was still married to his first wife. She has Venus in Pushya darakaraka and Saturn in Punarvasu as her atmakaraka. She's also Rohini sun, another nakshatra that crops up often in the charts of women who are considered "home wreckers"
Tumblr media
Pushya rising, Julia Roberts met her now husband when he was still married to someone else. Her most famous role to this date is that of a sex worker.
Tumblr media
Lauren Bacall has Pushya venus & rising and met her husband Humphrey Bogart while he was still married to another woman
Tumblr media
this is more of a speculation but JLo and Marc Anthony got married 5 months after he divorced his first wife, which implies that JLo and Marc probably started seeing each other when he was still married. Jennifer Lopez has Pushya moon
in an older post, i had mentioned how prostitutes in cinema are often played by Ketu natives and i think its interesting how different types of sex worker esque roles are played by different actors. prostitution is a very unglamorous, unrefined and morally frowned upon profession; Ketu is a shadow planet entirely separate from the material world where "morality" is created and enforced, thus it makes sense why these natives are chosen to play these roles, especially in gritty thrillers set in the underbelly of a big city (very Ketuvian). Ketu is in itself a malefic and associated with paradoxical concepts of apathy, impermanence but also liberation and salvation.
however, when courtesans or concubines are portrayed on screen, they are presented as extremely refined, polished and feminine creatures. historically, they were always educated, cultured, diversely talented and enjoyed a good position in the king's court.
they often acted as counsels, and were known for their refinement. such roles in cinema often seem to be played by Pushya or Punarvasu natives in cinema. i had already observed how cancer is the most feminine sign and how cancer women often play the "dream girl" or "trophy wife" in cinema and i would say this is an extension of that; their hyperfeminine mannerisms and persona make them highly desirable to men and courtesans and concubines are required to maintain themselves to a high degree of femininity in manner, appearance and conduct. it only makes sense that cancer girls, specifically Pushya (the height of femininity) and Punarvasu girls are chosen, repeatedly for these roles.
in most movies where a sex worker plays the protagonist, the main theme often tends to be about salvation/redemption. she's perhaps the whore with a heart of gold , the dichotomy between her character and her "immoral" life is explored. the Ketuvian roles explore these themes in the context of a dark, grungy, seedy brothel set in the underbelly of a big bad city whereas the Cancerian ones explore these in the context of a palace or a highly refined upper class setting where manners & conduct are subject to refinement. Ketu represents the shadow and Cancer ruled by the moon shows the light, although like yin and yang, there's good in the bad and bad in the good thoroughly interwoven into each other and impossible to separate.
2. in my personal observation, pisces rashi (0-3 degrees purvabhadrapada, uttarabhadrapada and revati) and bharani nakshatra endows a native with acting ability. these placements are present in the charts of some of the most talented actors in the history of cinema. obviously, one could have other placements and still be good actors.
Tumblr media
Meryl Goddamn Streep is a Bharani moon
Tumblr media
Saoirse Ronan is Revati sun, Bharani moon & venus with mercury and mars in UBP
Tumblr media
Timothee Chalamet has Purvabhadrapada moon (2 degrees pisces) and Ketu in Revati. love him or hate him, gotta admit that the boy can act 🤷🏼‍♀️
Tumblr media
Smita Patil, the iconic and prolific indian actress had Revati rising
Tumblr media
Shabana Azmi is also Revati rising
Tumblr media
again, love her or hate her, you have to admit Rani Mukerji is a terrific actor. She has UBP sun & ketu with mercury and venus in Revati
Tumblr media
Heath Ledger is Revati sun & rising with mercury conjunct mars in Purvabhadrapada (2 degrees pisces)
Tumblr media
Gary Oldman is UBP sun with moon and mercury in Revati
Tumblr media
Robert Downey Jr is Revati stellium (sun, mercury and venus) with Bharani moon
Tumblr media
Rooney Mara has UBP stellium (moon, mercury and venus)
Tumblr media
Charlie Chaplin had venus in bharani atmakaraka, revati mercury amatyakaraka and mars in bharani
Tumblr media
Spencer Tracy, Revati sun, UBP mercury conjunct mars
Tumblr media
Buster Keaton, the screen legend and absolute GOAT had Revati moon
Tumblr media
Clint Eastwood has mercury and venus in Bharani
Tumblr media
Marlon Brando had Revati sun & moon
Tumblr media
2 time Oscar winner and 10 time nominee, Bette Davis had Revati sun
pisces rashi, being a water sign gives the natives a certain emotional depth that gives them the ability to completely embody a character in the most convincing manner. being the final rashi, it encapsulates all the lessons of all the previous rashis and makes these natives possess an innate and inexplicable wisdom without first hand experience, thereby enabling them to portray a diverse range of characters convincingly.
bharani nakshatra's deity is lord yama and the nakshatra itself is associated with death. to be a good actor is to both subject your own self to a metaphorical death in order to birth the character within you and project it externally.

[Image description: an illustration in the style of a religious icon or tarot card, featuring a woman with brown hair (Melanie King) holding a cane and a broken chain. She has a red bandage over her eyes. There’s a gold halo behind her, with icons of daggers and eyes surrounding her head. The illustration is done in cool red tones]
Next up, Melanie! I could see her being a sort of Archangel Michael, known for liberating and defending those trapped in the domains. She also was the only one to free herself from the entities after being trapped by the Eye, so it only stands to reason that she’d be the patron saint of freedom.

Swordswoman Showdown Round 3
Lady Maria of the Astral Clocktower (Bloodborne) vs Alanna of Trebond (The Lioness Quartet)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Better here in a "preferred character" sense, not "who would win in a fight")
Propaganda below cut
Lady Maria
She has a double-bladed sword called Rakuyo that can split in two to be dual-wielded; She's haunting the narrative and the whole game foreshadows her existence
She wields the rakuyo, twin-bladed trick weapon that can transform into a matching katana and dagger, making it a versatile weapon; She one of the highest-ranked Hunters in the game, and fights like an experienced PVP opponent. During the boss fight against her, she stabs herself twice, first to bloody her blades and increase the range of her attacks, and the second time to cause her blades to emit flame when she strikes. Finally, she starts off the boss fight with this quote: "A corpse, should be left well alone. Oh, I know very well how the secrets beckon so sweetly. Only an honest death will cure you now. Liberate you from your wild curiosity."
She fights with a sick twin bladed sword which can split into two smaller swords, She was too hard and I couldn't beat her :'(
Duel wielding sword and dagger that combine as a twin blade; Best boss in the game. Also taller than your character by a full head. Her outfit is fashion as fuck as well.
Alanna of Trebond
Literal lady knight, has never lost a duel as King's Champion
Disguised herself as a boy to train as a knight and learn the sword. Practices with a giant sword to increase inductance. Finds (is found by?) a special magic sword. One of the best swords people in her country.
She was the first lady knight in Tortall in centuries and paved the way for other lady knights like Kel. She's also a shortstack hero who regularly kicks butt. Won several sword fighting tournaments against her male peers while disguised as a man.
Can't stand the idea of getting sent to a convent, so she switches places with her twin brother and disguises her gender to go off and become Tortall's first lady knight. Engages in much sword-wielding badassery, not just through inherent talent but through working twice as hard as the boys who skate by on their size and comparitive strength. In later Tamora Pierce books she shows up again as a mother, but even having kids doesn't stop her from going off and doing more heroic sword-swinging. H*ck yeah.
She’s her realm’s first Lady Knight in centuries and a genuine hero. She disguised herself as a man to earn her shield. She was the King’s Champion for decades; One of the first major women heros in YA fantasy, from the 1980! According to the author, if Alanna had the words for it, she would be gender fluid
disguised herself as a boy entirely to learn swords and become a knight, becomes the first lady knight in her country in centuries; Alanna is so iconic that decades of queer fans have seen themselves in her and any author signing is accompanied by a mob of sobbing millennials over how much finally meeting and thanking the author for writing Alanna meant to them

Rest in Peace John Romita Senior
And thus passes the third of the three men who laid the foundation for Spider-Man.
A lot of people, rightly, praise Ditko's work but I think it is important to bear in mind how vital Romita Senior was to the mythology of Spider-Man, and his pop cultural success.
Spider-Man went far more mainstream when Romita Senior began working on the title, in part because his style was more conventionally attractive. This is to not frame him as lesser than Ditko, they were both masters of their respective approaches, those approaches were just very different.
Ditko was the only man who could have co-created Spider-Man with Stan Lee, but Romita Sr. was the only man who could have taken Spider-Man to the next step of his place in pop culture and also the character's personal development.
This is the man who not only co-created staples of Spider-Man's mythology like Joe Robertson, the Rhino, the Shocker, or the friggin Kingpin and the Punisher, but who's artwork defined the looks of Peter Parker, Spider-Man, J. Jonah Jameson, the Green Goblin, Norman and Harry Osborn, Gwen Stacy and essentially the world of Spider-Man from the mid-1960s-the late 1980s.
This isn't even touching upon the fact that his rendition of Mary Jane (a character he only technically didn't co-create, but might as well have) is the definitive take on the character Every rendition since 1966 has been defined by how similar or how different it is to his take upon her.
So influential was his era on Spider-Man that it became the default setting status quo for virtually every adaptation until the 2000s, and even then aspects of his work were liberally incorporated into what anyone else was doing.
His rendition of Spider-Man and his world was so iconic that Marvel essentially enshrined that everyone had to try and adhere to how he drew those characters throughout the 1970s and for most of the 1980s. Indeed, until arguably the 1980s, but definitely the 1990s, whenever you saw Spider-Man merchandise it was always Romita Senior's rendition.
Not to mention his MASSIVE body of work in the Spider-Man newspapers and critical contributions to other Marvel characters, Daredevil perhaps being the most notable example.
Whilst Kirby was the King of comics, Ditko was the Master of his style and niche in the medium, Romita Senior is the undisputed GOD of American Romance comics.
And where Spider-Man is concerned, if Lee and Ditko are Peter's father's then Romita Senior is undeniably his Godfather.
Rest in Peace legend.

It's not bad enough they let works by men into a Women’s Art exhibit but they features these freaks?
By Genevieve Gluck December 30, 2023
A prestigious art museum in London has prompted backlash after featuring trans-identified males in a historical exhibition of the women’s liberation movement. The Women in Revolt! exhibit is a first of its kind project offering “a wide-ranging exploration of feminist art” made by over 100 female artists during the period between 1970 – 1990.
While the exhibit purports to amplify the work of women, some female visitors to the museum quickly noticed that a number of trans-identified males had been slipped in among the displays.
One of the most disturbing pieces include archival copies of a publication created by men with a sexual fetish for pretending to be women, including one letter from a transvestite who complains of being jealous of his wife.
“Once I had admitted my true inner self to others I felt great relief, and thereupon decided to be myself all the time and live life as it suited me and not as the way I had been committed to live since coming out of the womb,” reads the letter, written by a man identified as “Julia.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Prior to this, my marriage (to a woman), had broken up and my wife was seeking a divorce together with the custody of the children because of my attitude to life, namely brought about because of my jealousy of her femininity and her ability to become pregnant and know true happiness within the straight society.”
The admission was one of several personal anecdotes contained within a magazine primarily catering to gay men called “Come Together.”
Information on the exhibit was first posted to X by women’s rights advocate @Sorelle_Arduino, who visited the exhibit yesterday and uploaded photos to her social media showing displays featuring trans-identified males.
One of the photos snapped by the user was an abstract painting by transgender artist Erica Rutherford displayed next to Monica Sjöö’s iconic piece “Wages for Housework.” In the display’s description of Rutherford’s painting, it states that he was inspired by being brought “face to face with the humiliations” of being treated as a woman.
Tumblr media
“No cultural womens event can happen any more without men. Art has become a simpering pile of conformist junk,” one user said in response to @Sorelle_Arduino‘s thread on the exhibit.
“It would be bigoted to talk about women without talking about the ones that are men,” another quipped sarcastically.
Other displays featured articles from newsletters produced by the Beaumont Society, a group created in order to advocate for heterosexual crossdressers to be allowed to practice their sexual fetish publicly.
Among their goals, according to the group’s website, is to “promote and assist the study of gender.” The lobby organization uses as its namesake the 18th century French nobleman Charles Chevalier d’Éon de Beaumont, who would assume the identity of a woman named Charlotte, and was officially recognized as a woman by King Louis XVI.
The Beaumont Society, which currently advocates for the medical ‘transitioning’ of minors, was founded in 1966 by four male transvestites, one of whom was a leading figure in the fetish movement in the United States. Virginia Charles Prince, born Arnold Lowman, aided in creating the organization as a branch of a secret society of transvestic fetishists, who called themselves Full Personality Expression (FPE), located in California.
Initially, the group, as well as others like it which began to spring up in the United Kingdom, the United States, and Australia at the time, refused membership to homosexuals, presumably on the basis that prominent transvestites did not want the practice associated with sexual motivations. In one newsletter printed by Virginia Prince, who is credited with having popularized the term ‘transgender,’ he writes: “Some of the more narrow-minded of our sister TV’s [transvestites] see nothing good in anything that homosexuals do, but personally I am all for their success and would cooperate in helping them to achieve it where I could out of pure self-interest for our group.”
Prince has also openly discussed the sexual nature of the crossdressing fetish. In 1985 he appeared in an HBO documentary titled, “What Sex am I?”, where he commented on the element of arousal involved, saying that it was a “turn on” for “almost everybody” who participates.
“You have to grow past the stage of being an erotically aroused male in a dress, which results eventually in an orgasm. But when the orgasm is over, if you continue to stay in the dress, you begin to discover there’s this other part of yourself. You cease being an erotically aroused male, and you simply become a man who becomes to recognize that, gee, there’s something nice about girlness that I’m enjoying experiencing,” Prince, a co-founder of The Beaumont Society, said.
In recent years The Beaumont Society has become increasingly influential within the government and the medical establishment. The group is listed as an advisor to the National Health Service (NHS) in England as well as in Wales.
This is not the first controversy involving the Tate Museum centering trans-identified males, with multiple incidents occurring over the past year that have raised concerns amongst women’s rights advocates.
In June, a trans activist known for staging protests involving human urine was invited to read poetry during the Queer and Now LGBTQIA+ art festival. Jamie Cottle was dressed in women’s lingerie during the reading, wearing white panties that had the words “Sugar Money” embroidered into the crotch.
Though Cottle’s presentation was said to be for ages 16 and up, there were even younger children in attendance in the nearby area, with no boundaries set up to prevent minors from entering.

To be honest, this has been harder to theme since Franz Joseph lost his quarterfinal. So here's what I've got: look at these (allegedly) bisexual weirdos. No one produces bisexual art and science bitches quite like this dynasty.
Maximilian , Emperor of Mexico, reign: 1864-1867
Rudolph II, Holy Roman Emperor, reign: 1576-1612
Propaganda under the cut:
Maximilian
From: anon
- He loved plants
- He was a sassy man
- He had good taste
- He learned Nahuatl
- He’s cute (I mean look at him)
- He said “gay rights”
- He banned child labour in Mexico
- He gave many rights back to indigenous people
- Bro was wronged by France (haven’t we all?)
- He’s baby
- Got executed, come on, give him this guys 🥺
- He loved to design gardens and collect insects which makes me think he would've loved playing animal crossing
- An outspoken liberal in a period where the monarchy was still quite conservative.
- Vice-Admiral of the Navy who initiated scientific projects and exploration.
- Aesthetic girlie. Collected flowers, painted, wrote poetry, and kept a journal. He would have loved Tumblr.
- (Probably) gay or bisexual.
- Allegedly slapped Franz Joseph for refusing to allow Lombardy to have an elective body.
- Sisi's favorite brother-in-law (and not in a romantic way, fuck you Netflix)
- Refused to take the Mexican crown until a plebiscite had been held because he wanted to be invited by the Mexican people.
- Gave up all of his Austrian titles to go to Mexico because he believed he had made a promise to them.
- Also, his wife was amazing and capable and the amount of pure misogyny that certain historians and biographers have thrown at her is ridiculous. I know this isn't a Carlota poll, but she'd want Max to win.
- Netflix did him unbelievably dirty. Please give him this.
Did you know my man Max repatriated many pieces of Mexica artefacts?
He told Austria to cough up 3 main things that he thought were rightfully Mexican.
1. The Chimalli
2. A codex
3. A letter from Cortez to the chocolate man people seem to call Charles
The Austrians took their time but eventually gave back something
The Chimalli next to max so people know who to thank for it
Tumblr media
Rudolph:
- Possibly neurodivergent girlies rep also!!
- - THE ABSOLUTE BICON 💗💜💙
- Contributions to art and science!!! Alchemy, astronomy, painting etc flourished in his court we literally have some of the most beautiful baroque artefacts because of him

GODPARENTS OF GRAND DUKE ALEXANDER ALEXANDROVICH
Grand Duke Alexander Alexandrovich was born on 7 June 1869 in the Alexander Palace, Saint Petersburg in Tsarskoe Selo, Saint Petersburg. He was the second son of the Tsesarevich and Tsesarevna of Russia, later Emperor Alexander III and Empress Maria Feodorovna. He was christened on 21 June in Grand Palace Church, Tsarskoye Selo, by the Confessor of Their Imperial Majesties.
ALEXANDER II, EMPEROR OF RUSSIA - the Russian Emperor, his grandfather, was one of his listed godparents. He became the Emperor of All Russia in 1855. Alexander’s most significant reform as emperor was the emancipation of Russia’s serfs in 1861, for which he is known as Alexander the Liberator.
KING CHRISTIAN IX OF DENMARK - the Danish King who had ascended the throne just a few months after the grand duke was born, was one of his godparents. His initial unpopularity at the start, and the many years of political strife, where the king was in conflict with large parts of the population, his popularity recovered towards the end of his reign, and he became a national icon due to the length of his reign.
GRAND DUCHESS MARIA ALEXANDROVNA OF RUSSIA, DUCHESS OF EDINBURGH, DUCHESS OF SAXE-COBURG AND GOTHA - His 15-year-old paternal aunt, the grand duchess, stood as one of his godparents. She later married Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh (son of Queen Victoria), with whom she had five children, including the future Queen Marie of Romania. She was to be the only Romanov to marry in the British royal family.
PRINCESS ALEXANDRA OF DENMARK, PRINCESS OF WALES, QUEEN CONSORT OF THE UNITED KINGDOM - His maternal aunt, the popular and beautiful Princess of Wales, stood as another of his godparents. Largely excluded from wielding any political power, she unsuccessfully attempted to sway the opinion of British ministers and her husband's family to favour Greek and Danish interests. In 1901, upon the death of her mother-in-law Queen Victoria, her husband ascended the throne and thus she became the Queen consort of the United Kingdom.
Grand Duke Alexander Alexandrovich died of bacterial meningitis in 1870, one month before his first birthday. (Source)

Left: detail of an icon of Jesus's Palm Sunday Procession. Right: detail of a 1791 replication of a bas relief of the Triumph of Titus
[T]his demonstration harbored a dangerous message that would lead to Jesus's public execution by the end of the week. The way Jesus entered Jerusalem at the beginning of Passover week was a strategically organized demonstration. Jesus's entire ministry was headed toward Jerusalem. Every time he had to leave a large crowd of sick people begging to be healed, it was because his journey was aimed toward Jerusalem. Word of Jesus's message had already spread to Jews in Jerusalem, and they were prepared to participate in these planned demonstrations. Mark 11 tells us that when Jesus and his disciples were approaching Jerusalem, he told two of his disciples, "Go into the village ahead of you, and immediately as you enter it, you will find tied there a colt that has never been ridden; untie it and bring it. If anyone says to you, 'Why are you doing this?' just say this, 'The Lord needs it and will send it back here immediately.'" We don't know who was assigned to tie up the colt at the entrance, but taking the colt communicated to the crowds waiting in Jerusalem that Jesus was about to arrive. From the Mount of Olives, Jesus entered through the east entrance of Jerusalem on the colt while a crowd surrounded him, preparing the road for Jesus by spreading their cloaks and "leafy branches that they had cut in the fields" on the ground. And they shouted, "Hosanna! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the coming kingdom of our ancestor David! Hosanna in the highest heaven!" This deliberate sequence of actions was a symbolic reenactment of the prophecy of Zechariah. Zechariah 9:9 says, "Rejoice greatly, O daughter Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter Jerusalem! Lo, your king comes to you; triumphant and victorious is he, humble and riding on a donkey, a colt, the foal of a donkey." Matthew even directly quotes the verse in his account. This was a purposefully timed demonstration that would also remind people of the next verse in Zechariah 9: "He will cut off the chariot from Ephraim and the war-horse from Jerusalem; and the battle bow shall be cut off, and he shall command peace to the nations; his dominion shall be from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth." Although the gospel accounts do not report this detail, we know that the Roman governor Pontius Pilate arrived in Jerusalem at the beginning of the Passover Week as well. First-century Jewish historian Josephus wrote that during every Passover, Pontius Pilate and a legion of Roman soldiers spent the week in Jerusalem because of an increased chance of an uprising as Jews celebrated the event of the Exodus. The Romans wanted to make sure nobody got any dangerous ideas as they recounted God's attack on Egypt and the liberation of the Israelites. So as Jesus humbly entered Jerusalem from the east on a donkey, surrounded by a crowd of peasants and leafy branches, Pontius Pilate was likely entering Jerusalem from the west on a chariot led by a war horse, surrounded by a legion of Roman soldiers with armor and deadly weaponry. In their book on Jesus's last week in Jerusalem, John Dominic Crossan and Marcus Borg point out, "What we often call Jesus's triumphal entry was actually an anti-imperial, anti-triumphal one, a deliberate lampoon of the conquering emperor entering a city on horseback through gates open in abject submission. The symbolism is packed with meaning for the lives of those in the crowd surrounding Jesus. This demonstration exposed two warring kingdoms: the kingdom of Rome, with the power and weapons on their side, and the kingdom of God with the people on their side, desperate for liberation.

Propaganda
Lauren Bacall (To Have and Have Not, The Big Sleep, Key Largo)—"Just put your lips together...and blow" excuse me ma'am i'm briefly going to turn into a kettle. She's the quintessential Femme Fatale who may betray me in the end but I'd let her it'd be worth it
Gloria Grahame (It's a wonderful life, Oklahoma, Human desire, The Cobweb)—I'm just going to link to this Film Comment article by Donald Chase, who makes the argument more eloquently than I can, although I think Grahame's Ado Annie is more than just the 'flirtatious goofus' he offhandedly describes her as. Between that role and Violet Bick in 'It's a Wonderful Life" she's played two of cinemas best irrepressibly horny ladies. That would be legacy enough for our hot vintage queen, but she is also GLORIOUS in 'In a Lonely Place' and consistently pulls focus from her co-star Humphrey Bogart, famously one of the most charismatic leading men of his day. I think she had even more, and hotter, chemistry with him than he ever had with Lauren Bacall, which is saying a lot I know. Anyway, your honor I love her and I want her to win it all.
This is round 2 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.
[additional propaganda submitted under the cut.]
Lauren Bacall:
youtube
"She is soooo neat. And hot. And everything. That one scene in To Have and Have Not where she says "you know how to whistle don't you? You just put your lips together and blow" altered my brain chemistry during media archaeology class and here we are."
Tumblr media
"HER VOICE. Like yeah, she was absolutely stunning but oh my god, I'm obsessed with her voice"
"A gorgeous lady inside and out. One half of an absolute power couple with Humphrey Bogart, tended to him and other actors suffering from malaria whilst filming the African Queen, generally radiated grace and poise throughout her life. Also her last role was in Family Guy so she needs justice for that"
youtube
"The VOICE, the SLINK, the EYES. Woof."
Tumblr media
"She was stunning. Tall and beautiful with a distinctive voice and able to carry her own in a male dominated field. She won the heart of millions, including one of Hollywood's most iconic leading men, Humphrey Bogart. Their story was the stuff of legends, and the chemistry between them was apparent in the multiple films they started in together. She personified the film noir dame and yet she also adapted as Hollywood changed. Her career spanned decades, and she was honored multiple times."
Tumblr media
Gloria Grahame:
Tumblr media
Absolute Hollywood vamp, who had a fine comedic bone. Died far too young and was depicted by Annette Bening in the stellar Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool
Tumblr media
I’ve heard she’s horrendously miscast in Oklahoma (I have not seen it), so if you’re coming in with that framework PLEASE set that aside because gods does this woman shine in a NOIR!! She plays the battered woman more than a full on fatale, but she manages to bring interesting nuance to characters who are written as mere sultry divergences! Also: she’s sultry and an EXCELLENT divergence
She could do sexy, sweet and sinister in the same breath. She was crazy talented and had that lisp that melts me every time.

Wonder in the Rain
Summary: Albedo and the reader visit Qingyun Peak and have a conversation
Albedo x gn!Reader
Approximate Word Count: 552
King of the world. You’ve heard the phrase before, but never has it resonated as much as it does now.
The world sprawls at your feet. Only the tallest of peaks-- peaks like Mount Hulao, Mount Aocang, and far in the distance the frigid silhouette of Dragon Spine--break the carpet of low lying clouds.
Albedo stands next to you with a hand on your back, making sure the heavy wind and rain doesn’t push you off the edge of Qingyun Peak.
You look over at your boyfriend and laugh. Albedo’s hair, usually blond, fluffy, and wonderfully fun to play with, is plastered to his head and neck. If not for his soft smile and glittering eyes, he’d look like a half-drowned cat.
You shuffle a little closer to him. “Isn’t this amazing?”
“It is. Dragonspine is just as tall, but I’ve never gotten a view like this one.”
“You can’t find a view like this--much less enjoy it--in a place where six layers of wool is appropriate attire. And even if Dragonspine were more hospitable, the terrain isn’t quite as…”
“Spectacular?” Albedo provides.
“That’s a good word. Liyue’s mountains are so dynamic. Look at the different peaks. Their shapes and sizes are so varied. And in the sun, I bet the colors are crazy.”
 “Y/N,” Albedo sighs.
“What?”
“The more you put it like that, the more I want to draw it.”
“Oh.” You laugh and step away from the alchemist. “I feel so unstoppable, ‘Bedo. Like I could jump and fly off into the sky, never to be grounded again.”
“You’d leave me behind?”
“Never. Is it ironic that I find Mondstadt’s spirit the strongest on one of Liyue’s iconic peaks. Freedom, a desire to sing, to fly, in a place that loves the structure we’ve rejected?”
Albedo takes a moment to think. “That’s an interesting question. I don’t think so. Freedom, contracts, order, and flexibility, just because an archon and their nation reverse one thing doesn’t mean that other values can’t be found.  They’ve been there for thousands of years, what for your average mortal seems like an eternity. Contracts are made in Mondstadt. So freedom can be found in Liyue.”
“Hmm. You’re probably right. It still feels a little strange, feeling so free so far from home.”
“I don’t think ‘home’ has much to do with it.”
“Really?”
You turn to see Albedo shake his head. “Qingyun Peak, like Windrise, is a place where the cares of the world fall away.”
Albedo frowns, eyes unfocusing as he turns his thoughts inward. When his gaze clears he smiles. “No. It’s not strange. Places close to the sky, or held dear by the Anemo Archon--which are similar enough, when viewed in a certain light--often offer liberation.”
You chuckle. “I thought you were an alchemist, not a philosopher.”
“I want to find the secrets to life. The heart is a part of life. You’ve helped teach me that.”
“You’re going to make me blush.”
A comfortable silence stretches between you.
While you and Albedo watch your surroundings, the rain eases and eventually stops.
A few golden beams break through the clouds above you, patterning the carpet below. “Hey, Albedo?”
“Yes?”
“Will you draw this for me? I don’t want to forget this. Not ever.”
“All you have to do is ask.”

Quote
King took in stride that Rustin, Levison, and Baker had Old Left backgrounds. It was one of God’s mysteries why so many Communists and so few white liberals had cared about black Americans. King had become a democratic socialist in seminary, embracing the conviction of Johnson, Barbour, social gospel icon Walter Rauschenbusch, and Boston University ethicist Walter Muelder that political democracy cannot survive without economic democracy. Then he joined a racial justice movement in which he took for granted that former Communists had major roles to play. Rustin and Levison believed that black Americans would never be free as long as large numbers of whites were oppressed by poverty. Capitalism, they said, played different roles in the struggles for racial justice in the North and South. In the North, blacks suffered primarily from the predatory logic of capitalism. In the South, blacks suffered primarily from the tyranny of racial caste, and capitalism was an ally in the struggle against racial tyranny because the capitalist class experienced the demands of racial caste as a needless waste. In the North, fighting for economic justice was intrinsic to the struggle for racial justice; in the South, economic justice was secondary for the time being. King agreed with Rustin and Levison that the Northern and Southern struggles had to be waged differently and that the struggle for economic justice for all Americans was indispensable in the long run.

HES A LITTLE BASTARD BITCH AND I HATE HIM BUT HES SO FUNNY. WITHOUT ANALYSIS HIS MOTIVE IS "NOBODY WILL FUCK ME :( IM GONNA KILL THE KING AND USURP HIS POSITION (ILL HAVE TO KILL HIS CHILDREN AND MY BROTHER TO DO THIS)." HE THINKS THIS IS GOING ALL FINE AND DANDY UNTIL HIS DUMBASS IS BETRAYED BY HIS VASSALS, UNHORSED IN BATTLE AND STABBED THROUGH THE HEAD. HE HAS PROPHETIC DREAMS ABOUT HIS DEATH AND STILL CHARGES INTO BATTLE. HE THINKS HE CAN FUCK A WOMAN WHOSE HUSBAND HE KILLS. HE SEDUCES HER OVER HIS FUCKING COFFIN. SHE KNOWS HE KILLED HER HUSBAND. HE THINKS HE CAN GO "OH HA HA I'LL GIVE YOU ALL THAT LAND LATER (I AM UNTRUSTWORTHY AND A BASTARD)" TO BUCKINGHAM AND EXPECTS HIM TO STAY LOYAL (HE DOESN'T). HUBRIS UNLIMITED
Nemesis
Nemesis is a historical figure in Three Houses, and is known as "The King of Liberation." He is accredited with using the Sword of the Creator, said to be the gift of the Goddess Sothis, to save Fodlan, only to become corrupted later on. This ends up in Seiros killing him. He is also the only recorded person to have the Crest of Flames until Byleth comes along. In reality, Nemesis never saved Fodlan, and he got his powers by killing Sothis and making the Sword of the Creator from her bones and giving himself the Crest of Flames with her blood. He and his group of bandits went on to massacre the Nabateans (a race of dragon people said to be Sothis's children) and did the same thing Nemesis did to Sothis. Seiros, one of the survivors, then led a war to avenge her mother, and ended up doing so. Nemesis's corpse was stored by the Agarthans, and during the events of Verdant Wind, they manage to revive him, and Nemesis attempts to kill Seiros and take over Fodlan again. This time, Byleth, who wields the Sword of the Creator in the present day, and their army successfully defeats him for good; Has a kick-ass final boss theme. Seriously it's just iconic.

TwiYor Drag AU Ideas/Headcanons
This is for all you "TwiYor is absolutely not straight" supporters out there - also, the ones who just want to see Loid in a dress and heels 👠 All of you are real and valid 🙌
Loid is still a psychiatrist during the day but does drag at night, because it's fun and liberating
He keeps it a secret though and is known as Twilight to strangers, but those who do know him call him Lottie Fun
I feel like Loid's style as a drag queen is much less in your face and eccentric and much more sophisticated and classy with intricate eyeliner and eyeshadow - more of a straight up feminine appearance rather than celebrity (although Twilight is very popular online)
Yor started her drag career when she was 20 to make some extra cash for Yuri’s schooling and extracurriculars
Her female coworkers are aware of her drag career and are all like ✨️Yes, Quee- King✨️
Yor is known as THorny Prince and has garnered quite a bit of fame herself
Yes, they're both bi in this just like every other one of my AUs
Yor styles her hair in a messy bun and is given a stubble look. Makeup is used to enhance her jaws and cheekbones
Her clothes are black and sharp looking - simultaneously feminine and masculine
They meet during a charity festival during Pride Month at a bar
THorny Prince is all shy at first, because this is the Twilight
Twilight is just having fun and being flirty, because damn is this short (drag) king cute
Yor, of course, in her efforts to impress gets slightly drunk (she tends to limit herself during performance nights) while she's watching the absolute icon sitting next to her down girly cocktails like they're water.
THorny Prince calls Loid "Twilight" while speaking to which he gets all close and almost practically in her lap going
"To strangers, I'm Twilight. But for those I'm intimate with, I'm Lottie Fun."
In a moment of airheadedness, Yor goes
"But, we are strangers???"
Twilight giggles and probably says
"Well, we'll just have to fix that, won't we?"
And then, they race off to a hotel probably.
They do have to make a walk of shame home after exchanging numbers the next morning, because neither of them brought regular clothes
They agree to meet up for dinner later as their true selves and have a great time
Much later when their kids are grown up (yes, Anya is one of them), they lie about how they met
Well, I hope all of you enjoyed this crazy AU post lol This one seems like it would be a lot of fun to write, but I just have a lot on my plate right now both writing-wise and everything-else-wise.
I have lots of other AU ideas that likely won't see the light of day as an actual fic, so I'm going to make posts about them. Anyone can use these ideas for their own fanfics. I would just like to be tagged or notified if you write your own version, so I can read it 💕
And don't be afraid to share your own ideas! I love hearing them 😁
