I desperately wanted to love this but there are just some execution issues that I'm struggling to get past.

I actually didn't mind this performance much, still don't really care for the song but it's just not to my personal taste. This was the best application of JK purposely putting down the mic though, having him place it on the table. I always get just a little cringe when he puts it on the floor in the other performances but I have a suspicion it's supposed to be an enticing move that just does nothing for my ace self.
I still don't understand why there are so many dancers with JK. Especially on this small stage, it just looks crowded. Thus song is supposed to feel a little more intimate but the juxtaposition with so many others on stage with him is just awkward.

I got so excited when I saw the first JK duplicate! This type of filmmaking requires planning and preparation and I know the BTS production team is capable of some pretty cool visuals....but apparently the intended direction was to make the audience feel as seasick as possible while staring at a screen? What is with the continuous Dutch angles and floaty zooms?? Oh it's so bad. I can tell there was a great idea but it's just so poorly executed...

I absolutely DESPISE the 'mute' method of censoring in songs. As much as I dislike the rap in this song, I'd so much rather hear it than the abrupt muting of specific words. Pretty sure there's something happening psychologically that makes me fill in the gap mentally and then those individual words stick around longer but with no context. I realize they do it because they need to comply with some broadcasting policy but I wish never again to hear a clean version of ANY song with this approach, fill it in with something else or don't do it.
But THIS song absolutely makes sense to have so many dancers, and they've allocated enough space for it.

I wish I hadn't been spoiled as to this song being in this performance. It would have been a great moment of wonderment when a song other than the titles was about to start. Oh well, had to be in esrly meetings.
So...um...I understand the vision for this performance and it's actually an interesting idea with this song but...how do I say this nicely... This was completely reliant on JK's acting abilities to walk that fine line to not get into actual creeper territory and while JK is a great performer, he's really not that great of an actor. The edit didn't help him much either.

I'd like to end on a positive note though and go over some of the things that were great with this performance.
The set design! Absolutely gorgeous! Excellent idea and blocking for joining these songs into a cohesive performance.
The lighting! Oi, whomever was in charge of this, they did a great job! Absolutely perfection functionally for coverage and to support the storytelling.
That's it though...there will absolutely be some gorgeous stills and gifs that can come from this material. (not my crappy screen records, see someone else for the good ones! Lol) Overall this performance has continued the Golden theme of a great idea with some execution issues.

starting a new AC:NL town! DAY ONE!

hi everyone! today marks a new beginning: a new AC:NL town! i've had this game since 2013, and i've made dozens of towns since then. i really want to make a new AC:NH island as well, but i can't bear to delete my current one, and i don't exactly want to buy a whole new switch just to play animal crossing (nintendo, please, i'm begging you, let us make multiple islands!! or else i will cry).
i'll be honest: i have no idea what i'm doing. i haven't played since 2020. i always give up on new towns and don't even end up getting my first house before i reset! i have commitment issues, ok?? but i'm gonna try this time. can't promise that it's gonna be pretty at all, but...
side note: i'm not gonna be hacking anything. mostly because i don't know how and don't want to accidentally kill my 3ds. i wish i knew how, but :P oh well. i also won't be doing time travel because i don't really want to lol.
ANOTHER note, my 3ds is old and kinda crappy, so there won't be any photos....for now. just my thoughts n stuff. that's it!!!

first thing's first, creating the town. this will be mayor lavender, in the town of sappho!
my native fruit are pears, and my current villagers are wart jr, sally, hamlet, opal, and rosie! i was excited to get rosie because, i mean, of course. i also loved meeting opal, she's really cool! and hamster villagers always give me such nostalgia, because in my first ever new leaf town, i had two of them. but still, i'm not sure if i like hamlet yet. same goes with wart jr and sally. we'll wait and see!
after setting up my tent, i started on the basics. getting a feel for the new town, getting money. i started plotting out my pathways and blocking off areas i dont want villagers to move on. does that trick still work, using paths to block areas? i'm a little rusty on this game, lmao. i hope so. after that, i put in my down payment for my house, and got started on isabelle's tasks. i started my flower farm down on the beach - it's just red and white roses for now, since i forgot about all the color combos...i'll google that later. and finally, i talked with all my villagers, paying more attention to rosie and opal because i love them.
there's not much to do on day one of a new town, but i hope there's some new stuff tomorrow! i also hope my sibling will move in after they make their own town. maybe i can even convince them to write a post....

am i a reluctant pokemon fan ?
so far, both of the posts i've made here touch the subjects of pokemon/nintendo. it would be sort of stupid to make the third post ever say "i actually hate pokemon". so instead, i'll borrow the words a youtuber used to describe his relationship with kingdom hearts and call myself a "reluctant pokefan". why reluctant, and not ex you ask ?
for the simple fact that i still massively enjoy past episodes. in my life, there has not been a year where i haven't played an older pokemon game on a mobile emulator or dusted off the old 3ds to play some 4th/5th gen pokemon. while i've grown bored of a number of games that i have played too much during a period of time (dark souls 1 comes to mind), pokemon is really the only franchise i go back to; serving both purposes of being somewhat of a comfort game and genuine entertainment.

the reason i mention "genuine entertainment" like an android awkwardly trying to describe human feelings is because i know a lot of pokemon fans outgrew the franchise after discovering more complicated rpg/mon sagas like shin megami tensei, romancing saga, digimon and thus no longer draw an actual feeling of satisfaction and entertainment from the games. but to me, despite playing more rpgs over the years, i've never really stopped having fun playing the games. i will fully admit nostalgia plays into it, but it is definitely not enough to make me sink 40-50 hours into a given pokemon game (that i've most likely already played) every 6 months. the older games, while not being necessarily complicated gameplay wise (i remind myself sometimes that for the longest time the game was aimed at children) all have their own brand of uniqueness, which in my opinion, stretches further than gimmicks each game has. atmosphere, characters, the general artistic direction for the pokemons and the folklore for each generation makes each game worth playing for me. regardless of whether you think the battle system has not evolved at all in more than 20 years, that there the dressing aspect of pokemon has not gained any depth whatsoever, that the lore sometimes fails to stick together, that the game retain too much of their linear modus operandi over each opus, the pokemon experience offered by the older games couldn't be find anywhere else. all these examples of critics i quoted happen to be a few of the gripes i have against the entire franchise, which have amplified over the years.
Hence, my being a reluctant fan.
while what you've read so far has been almost like a letter to a long lost lover, what you're going to read is an aveu of hatred and disgust towards the direction taken by the games after the 7th generation (i personally judge pokemon sun/moon to be the last good games). don't expect an objective argumentary about why it's bad, cold hard facts or post ironic memes : i simply am going to express my hate for the mediocrity game freak subjects itself to.

i am not going to go into details about how vomit inducing the textures look (hint : i think it looks like actual gameplay from one of those crappy chinese mmorpgs that you see advertised on shady torrenting websites). how, in 2020, pokemon makes its first mainline entry onto a TV system which such godawful graphics, lackluster characters that somehow look inferior to the avatars from a prior mobile game (pokemon go) is beyond me.

lacking 3d animations, battles still load up in an enclosed area where the trainer is nowhere to be seen, pokemons remain static, simple looped animations with not even a god damn idle animation, something that mid 90s point n click games had for chrissake. it is unbelievable game freak went on about the pokedex not including enough pokemons as to concentrate on the ones they're going to be using when truthfully, you couldn't put less work into what's already in the game if you wanted. "it could be worse" yeah, sure, if they didn't just lazily re-use the animations from the 3ds
and you may argue that this had always been the case, to which i'll answer that the only example of gf being this lazy was the shameless copy/paste of the post-league house of battles (whatever its name was) in ORAS; considering the original one in XY was already incredibly lackluster. i actually suspect gamefreak started getting real lazy around that time the way, providing players with the bare bones minimum of pokemon games : expect that's the thing, it's no more interesting than a plain bowl of white rice with nothing on it. pokemon, at its base form, is rpg so behind and archaic that it could be called backwards. features that have existed for 2 decades in mainstream jrpgs such as wild life encounters and beast riding are seen as good additions, while the series was conditionned to smaller machines with weak technical capabilities, the limitations were excusable, but i refuse to ever pay for the undercooked pieces of garbage that nintendo has somehow been able to churn out at a faster rythm than back when the games were made for smaller formats; and on top of that, pouring a thick greasy nasty sauce of dlcs on top.
legendaries that no longer have any connection to existing folklore/mythical symbolism, flagship legendary pokemons being just recolors of each other. jesus christ, scarlet and violet were centered around the gimmick of motorcycle dragons being ridable and somehow nintendo manages to flip the middle finger by making said pokemons CRAWL on top of being extremely buggy

let us ignore, once again, the awful graphics (final fantasy XII on ps2 somehow looked better in its pixelated glory)
the problem is not the choice of gimmicks or pokemons whatsoever, that's up do debate, we've had for each ds game a gimmick to act as a placeholder of the lower screen, but there's no soul left, and as to define this vague concept; not spontaneity from the devs, no extra-work to make the player smile as he thinks "they didn't have to do this but i like it", like getting something on the house from a burger joint you already love. no, you can truly feel that even though nintendo has always been multi billion dollar company, they now decide to make money on unfinished games, capitalizing on a new demographic of older players who won't mind spending 50, 60 bucks on the lastest pokemon game no matter how shamefully mediocre it is.
i think i'll stop here as i would have to go deeper into detail, but frankly, i feel like i could go on forever, with more structure, and yet, it feels childish because this is ultimately the result of disappointment at the downhill slope a loved franchise that occupied a big role when i was younger is taking.

Reading two brilliant books right now—one, imaginative and irreverent historical fiction, and the other, time travel romance. Just wanted to pop in here and share the first paragraph of each... because they're fun:

Okay, okay... I need to share another two bits (not 25¢) from the time travel romance, because, as a writer, they are so delicious...

Except we don't. Of course we don't. We live in a world where, sure, there are iPhones and 3D printers and, I don't know, drone strikes or whatever. But it hardly looks like The Jetsons. I'm sorry, despite receiving the best education available to a citizen Tomorrow, the grammar of this situation is a bit com-plicated.

—then, the next chapter spends the first two paragraphs written in the third person, but then...

And the other..... the historical fiction... It is the adventures of Ada Byron (the world's first computer programmer) and Mary Shelley, nee Godwin (the world's first science fiction author) as teenage girls who form their own detective agency and go adventuring together!
Reading both of these at once is rapturous!

I don’t know about you guys but I think the people who worked on the movie were trying to make the characters look like the 2000 live action characters but they didn’t like it so they decided to redesign the characters. When I first saw the clip they kinda did look weird especially the early Rudolph on the left. Like, he’s not that bad there’s a few things that make him look pretty weird. I also noticed that the animation is pretty fast in the early version and the voice acting sounded a bit different and not that bad. Here’s some gifs (Sorry if it looks crappy)

For Pokémon's 25th anniversary I want...Game Freak to take a break. No, seriously.
Game Freak has been coming out with Pokémon game after Pokémon game, year after year with the occasional 1 year break every now and then but since Black and White 2 (9 YEARS AGO!) It's been yearly with sometimes 2 a year.
Now you might be thinking "Game Freak has 143 employees as of 2019, they can afford multiple teams, right?" Especially since Pokémon isn't realistically inclined to be the highest fidelity. But think of it this way, Nintendo put 84 different ROLES into the credits of Super Mario Odyssey, not people, roles. Mario also has games come out every year, multiple even, but those are different teams within Nintendo working simultaneously on different projects, Game Freak is Game Freak, the same people working on multiple projects. Now, sometimes they bring in people, in fact, Sword and Shield was rumored to have up to 50% more people working on it than usual, that's nuts!
Imagine some of that could've been because of deadlines and crunch. Of course just bringing more people to the team isn't always helpful, there's such a thing as too many cooks in the kitchen.
Look at Assassin's Creed and what Ubisoft did, that franchise was dipping hard, coming out yearly, then Ubisoft took one measly year off and started doing better, put out 2 games then took another year off.
Pokémon is dipping, and you can see the performance (even just in the trailers)

That Chingling's framerate is pretty crappy. Just look at some of the YouTube clips of glitches, the removal of the Nat Dex which was said to be because "there were just too many, not enough space" but then came the slow revival of many of them anyway. The animations are pretty stale and haven't changed all that much at all (I don't consider that a "for nostalgia" thing either.)
And a lot of these designs just didn't seem up to par for me this time around and maybe that's "my" problem, maybe that's my taste but to me it seems like they can hardly keep up, they're running out of steam because it's number one, because Pokémon so popular, it has the anime, it has the movies, it has the toys. But imagine what a break would do, imagine things they could achieve, the ambition that could be brought back.
Coming out with yearly stuff wasn't always as big of a deal because of the nature of the game, they were pixelated with the occasional 3D spinoff that was handed off to third parties anyway but that jump to 3D made them harder to churn out, harder to progress and make better.
Call me nitpicky with some of this, but I AM excited for some of these games but I also think that they need to step back and take a minute to really focus, they've had a good run and they deserve a break, don't let other games suffer because of it.
Forgive me if some of my research is a bit off.

As the title says, I'm offering my 3D lowpoly commissions again! I finally quit my crappy retail job, so these will hopefully help me pay the bills while I look for better work elsewhere.

Prices:
All prices are in USD, and must be paid via paypal invoice. I prefer to use a 'half up front, half upon completion' method, but other payment plans can be discussed!
Note that the listed prices are for personal-use commissions only. Please let me know in advance if you'd like to discuss commercial/freelance estimates, instead.
All models include a basic rig and static pose by default.
More complicated rigs, idle animations, additional poses, props, detailed or asymmetrical designs, background elements/environments, 3D-Printing prep, etc may cost extra, depending on complexity.
Additional characters can potentially get discounts, depending on design
Commissioners will receive the final blender file, any original sketches made during construction, a static t-pose turnaround sheet, and at least 1 gif per pose/animation.

Inktober Day 7 - Exhausted

It’s been a week, and only now on sunday night did I get back on schedule :p
that said this was fun, even if it’s intentionally simplistic. there’s stuff like the blanket needing to settle that I don’t know how to do better, as I’ve never done physics simulations like this in blender before. I guess doing a crappy job on purpose helps the situation. 
I hope as I try to keep up with inktober I will learn what projects are too big and what projects aren't, as it’s a lot harder to gauge in 3d, because there are so many different things to do depending on the desired effect.
One week down! On to the next! Yay!

2018 (Jan-May) Re-Cap
Getting back into the groove of things so I'm making this post to catch up on pretty much the last (and first?) 5 months of this year.
The beginning of the year was pretty slow and I can't remember what months I did what exactly, but I got back into development in February after getting this awesome idea for a game.
New game! "EXIT"
This is gonna be a crappy Dev log considering I don't want to spoil too much before announcing any games but this one is called Exit. So this is a-(gross my cat just sneezed all over my hand as I was typing this.) This is an informal teaser announcement. I won't talk about it too much but it will be on PC, Mobile, and Web. It will also only have co-op play, no single player.

I can't wait to formally announce this project and release more info since this game is what inspired me to start developing again. It would be finished by now but.. well I'll get to that in a minute.

Whoever knows me, knows I can't be locked down to ONE game. I had fun with the idea of EXIT and it sparked a lot of creativity in me. I craved an action game that I could enjoy playing with my friends. That should be announced soon after EXIT.
You guessed it..
Now let's talk about what I am currently working on. Yes. Another game.

So back in April of last year I had made a game for Ludum Dare called Small World. It didn't do that great but hey, I had a lot of fun making it because I have been wanting to use RPG elements for a while. It also ended up being a very unique idea. After playing over it several times and getting feedback from others, I had decided to make a "sequel" to the game that would be a very large expansion developed on top of the existing game.
Small World Z
The game revolves around the seemingly infinite amount of NPCs and interactions you make with them inside an infinite 2d sidescrolling world.
Now let's throw some more weapons and zombies into the mix and we got ourselves a hootenanny!
This game is going to be our first title to be released on the Nintendo New 3DS handheld system, as well as iOS.
We also made a Kickstarter, which was successfully funded! But I will talk more about that next time since this happened in June, but go ahead and check out the link for more information on the project. Here is a GIF of an early mobile build.

Conclusion
I'm working on a lot of stuff. Can't wait to announce the 2 new games (and something else) and can't wait to release Small World Z. As for CHax 2, development should start again the beginning of 2019 with mod support and game modes. Sorry for the delays, I truly am, I just can't burn myself out on a project and right now I am really excited to be working on 3DS titles. Wish me the best of luck guys, hopefully dev logs can be monthly again or at least bi-monthly.
