Matthew scene by scene in season 3
Episode 2 Scene 3 - Unfinished.
If you haven’t read these before don’t expect any other character arcs - forget it. Matthew all the way here. AND this is distinctly ‘shallow end’ stuff that is not to be taken too seriously.
Spoilers if you haven’t seen Season 3/Episode 2 yet!!!
Back at Clairmont House, Andrew and Jack tell their tale. Matthew has got his cranky pants on again coz he’s not happy about Jack being made a vamp.
Matthew gets shouty with Hubbard.
But this time I’m on Hubbard’s side coz he helped our poor lil heartbroken baby Jack.
Book spoiler - this argument took place while Jack was sleeping so the poor kid wasn’t subjected to listening to this vampy tiff. Parenting 101 - don’t argue in front of the kids coz they blame themselves! Why isn’t Diana stepping in and shutting these two up?
But then she has her own problems coz Jack and Andy inadvertently drop her in the shit with Matthew. Oh crap.
They let slip about the time walking. “You knew that? You knew that in the 1590′s?”
BUT they never told Hubbard that. Oh wait - maybe Diana did ...
Di confesses about the drop of blood in return for Andy watching out for Jack.
Andy is quite rightly unrepentant “He was your responsibility Matthew. You made him mine.”
“Get out.” Matthew seethes. Oh for the love of god Matthew! Andy did a good thing. Jack is clearly grateful to Father H. Show some understanding. 🤬 Instead he’s just being SO rude.
Next up: Another chance

Father Hubbard made me a vampire. I had to save his life…I left him in the care of Henry Percy, well provided for. Did you really think a warm bed and food in his belly could mend his broken heart…I think Matthew and Diana have a very bad conscience for leaving Jack. 😍🥰 📷 ADoW S3E2 my edit

I’m imaging a bunch of the vampires on the couch, acting like a bunch of rowdy frat boys watching a football game while watching a documentary, shouting & groaning and occasionally cheering when they get a detail right, Phoebe & Diana drinking wine & low-key taking notes.
No, because this describes the de Clermonts to a tee!
They love watching history documentaries and shows they were there for so many of these events and love watching modern historians
Baldwin rolls his eyes when they watch an ancient Rome documentary. Everyone makes them out to be so brutal.
Well, they were. But Baldwin likes being given credit, dammit. Still upset that people think Brutus and Cassius were intelligent enough to plan Caeser's assassination, like he and Philippe were right there.
"I don't know why everyone is so upset about the rejection of Christianity." Baldwin shrugged, "We had our own faith."
"You put him to death!" Matthew protested angrily.
Baldwin shrugged, "His own countrymen put him to death. Most of what he said was ridiculous anyway.
"You were really good friends with Nero, weren't you?" Phoebe asked him.
The kids and Diana are watching the cartoon, the Three Musketeers. Baldwin comes by to see the twins when he and Matthew see what's on the TV.
"Remember Alexandre?" Matthew asked, and Baldwin smiled.
"Yes, lovely man. More fun than Victor." Baldwin said, "God, outside of-"
Matthew gave him a pointed look to not mention the brothels he frequented with famous French authors.
"He did enjoy our stories about guarding King Louis." Matthew smiled, "And you hating the Cardinal."
"Even you hated the Cardinal."
"He was a terrible man, abused the faith." Matthew tutted.
Diana paused the TV, "Are you saying that Dumas based the Three Musketeers on you?"
"Yes, and Godfrey." Matthew said, "We've inspired many books and legends. Father was considered a God, or Hercules. Machiavelli wrote the Prince after following Baldwin around."
"Yes, and Charlotte based Mr Rochester on you."
Diana couldn't help the snort that escaped her mouth, especially when Matthew attempted to slap his brother.
