Non-ADHD and non-autistic disabled people whose only idea of ADHD and autistic people is shaped by media depictions of a nerdy white boy or a quirky goth girl with low support needs: "Yeah ADHD and autism are destigmatized and we should ignore people with ADHD and autism in favor of real disabilities. I am very smart and progressive."
Lateral prejudice towards other disabled people will get us nowhere.

Imagine being 9 years old and asking your dad about the things you're interested in doing when you grow up and he's like "No ❤️! But you can get married, have babies, and then maybe your sons can do those things ☺️🫶 "
#arya stark#one of those /wtf Ned/ moments#then people act like she invented misogyny cause she was like /uuuhhhhh no thanks that's not me/#/Arya is masculine/ and she's literally just a child who has interests outside of her patriarchy-assigned role#the way people read this and then demonize Arya for not silently conforming like people expect her to...#that's the ingrained misogyny from being socialized in a patriarchal society speaking babes 😭#cannot stress enough how Arya is just an average little girl and what makes her behavior stand out is their society's strict gender norms#her life + learning almost entirely revolves around the fact that she is being raised to be a wife and people resent her for wanting more :#she is NINE in AGoT and her parents are discussing her refinement because /In a few years she will be of an age to marry/#the way misogyny is explored in Arya's story is actually so brilliant and well-written (+ underappreciated) though#we feel the full weight of how restrictive their society is through her POV and get the experiences of lower-class women too#which is why it's so significant that George wrote her based on feminists who realized they wanted more than becoming wives/housewives#she's one of his key characters who will /change the world/ but people think he's sticking her on a boat bc she isn't feminine enough 😭#thank god he's writing the books and not any of these reductive hacks who thinks misogyny is subversive 🙏🏾#sidenote: would've loved to see this from her POV to get her feelings when he said this cause I'm sure it doesn't match Ned's perception#considering he views her main issues as being stubborn/difficult while we know about the self-esteem issues she has

the horny horny response to that tiktok makes up for the ppl in the notes having full on wah-wah meltdowns over the suggestion that tiktok's perceived Quality fully has to do with how you, individually, use it. I don't even have to say anything, bc these two tags already summarize it perfectly

Other people have discussed this more eloquently, but the thing people don't always seem to get about "passing" (think "cis passing" or "straight passing", for instance) is that the concept of "passing" relies on more than just appearance.
Take me for instance, where I do pass as a man, but I have never (and will never) pass as a cishet man. People know I am queer, even if they don't see that I am a trans queer man. Passing is more than wearing certain things or saying certain things. My mannerisms are queer, my speech is queer, my inflection is queer, my stance is queer. People pick up on that. There's nothing wrong with me being seen as queer, but I'm still treated like a queer man, for better and worse. It seems that people forget that, you know?
My point is that passing is very conplex, nuanced, and individual. I use myself as an example, but that by no means indicates that I have a standard experience. I've noticed, however, that many people have over-generalized these conversations, and I think that doesn't do us - as a community - a service.

Okay but for real, please download Merlin, the Cornell-based bird-logging app. It is so great. It will tell you about birds in your area. It will make you so insufferable on hikes and outings. It doesn't have any comments section so if this site gets nuked do NOT try to find me there but know that that's where I'm hanging. Having a great time birdwatching. Logging the bluejay that bullies my cats. Helping researchers track where birds are for climate change-related population monitoring. 10/10, highly recommend getting a life and doing some silly birdwatching.

I'm not at all an expert on gender studies but if you're interested in it at all I HIGHLY recommend you look into oppositional sexism as an issue because I feel like I can see into the fourth dimension of queer discourse now

anyways blows u a kiss love ur writing ty for sharing it w us
thank you!! it was actually the first pjo thing i wrote (this decade) lol. but i convinced myself that everyone would hate will's character and stopped writing it. BUT i am re-interested in it and am going to give it another go!!!

feminist theories, esp Black feminist & transfeminist & anticapitalist feminist theories, have a lot of complexity and depth and really dig in to complex systems of oppression and like there's so much there!! so many critiques, so much back and forth and refining and updating theory to better fit evolving understandings and circumstances
so it's kinda wild to me that people think they're gonna revolutionize gender theory when it's painfully clear that they have NO idea what's already there.
like there are people trying to make whole new frameworks to understand systems of gendered oppression but without any detailed understanding of the current frameworks or, crucially, in what ways they are useful and what material realities they accurately describe.
in order to be useful a new framework needs to both be a) internally logically consistent AND b) describe or explain or interrogate etc material realities that exist in the real world
and c) do this in a way or to a degree that existing or past frameworks don't already do as well or better
and some people are coming up with stuff that sounds good in a vacuum!!!
but they're going off vibes and feelings without much attempt to find out the details of existing frameworks or even what the measurable & objective material realities are
so these "revolutionary new gender theory frameworks" often end up being rehashes of stuff that's already been thought about by lots and lots of people and widely rejected for being inaccurate or inadequate in the face of better frameworks, and/or describing or responding to a totally alternate universe disconnected from how things work in the real world
these kinds of issues make many "revolutionary new frameworks" useless at best, and at worst, they can be reactionary and actually reify existing forms of oppression.
