A Long December Theories

Okay, so silly crack theory aside, here's just a couple of genuine thoughts under the cut (because SPOILERS)...

So Wilhemina was on the film lot at the same time as F. Scott. It's not a huge jump that they met at some point or another. She's also a bit of a ditz (we love her though!) and famously terrible at keeping secrets. Maybe she was one of his sources that he used to pull the secrets exposed in The Greater Gatsby, and whoever sent the note is one of the people she accidentally betrayed? They could either be out for revenge or simply trying to scare her off before she could do any more damage.

She also mentions Cliff being particularly down--could his secret have been one of the ones she let slip to Fitzgerald? Did his sexuality make it into the script for Greater Gatsby? I so far refuse to believe that Cliff would do anything to hurt Wilhemina, but he could have gotten the idea for a threatening letter from Roger's blackmail stunt the previous year and tried to just scare her into the silence. On the other hand, he knows just how well that worked out for Roger, which would only be a deterrent... Maybe he's innocent of the note and just worried because a script containing his greatest secret is now missing and he has no idea who has it.

F. Scott Fitzgerald was definitely a part of whatever meeting was happening at Bixby's, and the combination of Ford seeing a familiar face and young companion easily points towards something having to do with child actors. Could F. Scott have stumbled onto something relating back to... *music plays as we all look off into the middle distance* The War? Or is that just another red herring? It's pretty early on in the series, after all...

And do we think the case the giraffe was just pure silly fun, or will it somehow end up being unexpectedly important at the end?

NYE Saturday 6:

- its been a while since I've actually had even the start of a beard, and now it's decided that it's becoming salty. I'm running headlong into year 46, and maybe it's time to realize I'm just getting old. Thanks, no, I really do hate it.

- Speaking of hate it, my work situation... "No really, I love being left in the dark, it's fabulous..." Note: never leave engineers in charge who have zero communication skills or interpersonal skills for thar manner...

-The good news about school is that I'm going to graduate after fall quarter. The bad news is that it's a quarter later thanks to classes I needed. The upshot is that I will be able pad my GPA, which means I might have a better shot at my top 2 schools, both of which have a ridiculously high median GPA of admitted applicants.

- So our dog is a rescue from Mexico(just a catch-up), and came with the name Cabo. So us being us, he has nicknames- Caba Caba, hey!(nod to the Ramones), Cabo Doggo, Cabo bob, bobbo doggo... I mean, I'm sure yall do the same stuff. But separate from one another, we started calling him Spanish things- H calls him queso, and I call him el frijole picante. Despite our terrible accents, he seems to appreciate the effort at community.

- "Drove up to hillside manor sometime after 2 am, and talked a little while about the year" hits just as hard this year as "So we're told this is the golden age, and gold is the reason for the wars we wage. Though I want to be with you night and day, nothing changes on new years day". The older I get the more I care about others, and the angrier I get at those who don't.

- NYE is always has been amateur hour in my world, so we bought finger foods and are having a quiet night in(save for a few sparklers left over from July 4th if buggy makes it to 10 pm). To all you who are merry making tonight: 1. Be safe and take an Lyft home, 2. Make good choices about drinks that may or may not stay in your stomach, 3. Tip your waitstaff/bar tenders/service workers well, 4. And know that I am with you in spirit.

- Much love to you all on these last few hours of 2022. While I've seen so many good people get good things that they deserve(most especially good and real love), 2022 has been fill with so much loss, more than any of us deserve. Here's to a 2023 filled with grace(!!!!!!), softness, renewal, fulfillment, and building legacies of light.

NEW: COVID19 variant of interest JN.1

Geneva, 19 December 2023 -- Due to its rapidly increasing spread, WHO is classifying the variant JN.1 as a separate variant of interest (VOl) from the parent lineage BA.2.86. It was previously classified as VOl as part of BA.2.86 sublineages.

WHO advises people to take measures to prevent infections and severe disease using all available tools. These include:

-Wear a mask when in crowded, enclosed, or poorly ventilated areas, and keep a safe distance from others, as feasible

-Improve ventilation

-Practise respiratory etiquette - covering coughs and sneezes

-Clean your hands regularly

-Stay up to date with vaccinations against COVID-19 and influenza, especially if you are at high risk for severe disease

-Stay home if you are sick

-Get tested if you have symptoms, or if you might have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 or influenza

For health workers and health facilities, WHO advises:

-Universal masking in health facilities, as well as appropriate masking, respirators and other PPE for health workers caring for suspected and confirmed COVID-19 patients.

-Improve ventilation in health facilities
