River smiled gently. Savior? Him. No. Lucas had been the one to save him. To bring him out from a grief of over two decades, to bring him back life and warmth outside of being a father. He held Lucas' hand and kissed it gently. He owed so much to this young man. He had been saved by him, he had given him a new meaning to life.
In his son he had found a reason to go on, but his son had been the only happiness to his life and he had felt he'd never have any other outside of him. Without Rylan it was like a part of him, the very reason for him to exist was gone, so he went on for Flynn, for his beloved son. He gave up on love, believing he'd never have it back, that he'd never be able to feel it again, to feel happiness, to feel desire, to feel longing, to feel belonging. But now, he has met Lucas. Lucas was warmth, he was sunlight, he gave him everything. A reason to want to live beyond his family and shelter, to want to be more, to want to love.
He kissed Lucas' free hand with gratitude and adoring eyes as another waiter served them appetizers that looked rather unique, he imagined it was another experimental dish and smiled.
River: I think I'll have the same. And this? -he looked at the appetizers-
Waiter: It is a new entrée, we are trying and our chef would love to know what you think of it. It's Savory Bacon Love Petals .
River: Oh, romantic. -He chuckles and smiled looking at Lucas-
Waiter: I hope it satisfies, sirs. I will tell the kitchen your order. Anything else you desire?
River: I think we're good.
The waiter nodded and walked away.
River: You know. I am the one who should call you savior. You're the one who saved me. I was trapped somewhere dark, watching life go past me from the shadow, and you shone on me like the warmest of sunshine and made me want to live.
For the briefest of moments, Lucas's attention was taken by the food, it looked like a flower, where unless River had asked, he would actually never have guessed that it was bacon. It looked like super thin little petals, and his mind was amazed that this was even possible.
Lucas: We saved each other then...You saved me from what wasn't really a life, and showed me just what life could be. -he smiled softly at River, he could never have guessed the man he met that day was so lost, he felt a little lost, but he had come to learn over time just how bad it had been. - And you're making it awfully hard not to glow you know.
He watched River, the way he looked at him was something he had seen on occasion when it was just to the two of them, but it felt so out in the open somehow, and it made glowing pink and green very hard for him to control. Putting the champagne down, he looked around, then leaned over the table kissing River gently, before he sat back down again, turning his attention to the dish trying to let it distract him enough to help him not glow.
