Dumping some thoughts here so I can add it to our files for SoFS&V later on-
-----
Tua&Quizzie, a bit more toward the beginning of their dynamic in the story. At a social event to gain allies.
Tua, putting on the show of a likeable girl from the outer rim, smiling and greeting those she passes
He takes in notes about her For Show side, makes a quiet comment to her about it, it comes out more genuine than he wanted it to. Something to the effect of 'how you win over so many people'
Still waving, she replies back, gently and encouragingly. Something to the effect of 'I will be whatever they would want. We'll get more if I play nice than if I come in making demands like I own the place.'
He scoffs, but says something about how she's good at it.
She turns to him for a moment, still smiling gently, "It's what I was born into. If you would like to, you can smile as well. People love a smile. They'll let their gaurd down."
Despite himself, the corner of his lip quirks up at that. Disarming an oppent with just the slightest curl of a lip. He looks back to her, to say something about how his toothy smile would do the opposite of set people at ease. He wasn't expecting to find her still looking at him, and certainly not with the earnesty she has on display.
The gentle glow of her expression throws him of balance, the ground he was so certain that's beneath him is now letting him fall and he has nothing to hold on to. He loathes the loss of security like nothing else. He can feel the flames licking up his spine-
She wants a smile? Alright, he'll bite.
Convincing himself that it's out of spite, he gives her his best smile without his usual malice.
Her smile brightens, eyes something softer. Doing the opposite of what he had expected her to do, she brushes her fingers over his arm. He can't make out the words that spill from her, probably something encouraging- gentle to a recoiling degree. But her touch is grounding at the same time. She has him feeling spiraling out of control, yet in the same moment is providing the most comforting chill of calmness.
"There's your beautiful teeth, darling. A smile looks good on you."
Her words echo in his mind long after she's turned back to guests, giving them her attention.
Something sours in the pit of his gut, smile still stuck on his features as his eyes follow her trail. He doesn't understand her game. What the fuck is she playing at.
What does she want from him. Why won't she just fucking tell him instead of this hellish-

I’ve heard mixed reviews about TUA season 3 now that it’s actually out, so I’m a bit on the fence about watching it. Would love to hear your thoughts/review on it after you finish the season :)
So it's taken a while for me to answer this because I've been watching an episode a day, so I don't know if you've started the show or not. But I'll try and give my thoughts about S3 without spoiling anything major plot wise in case you haven't started watching it.
Things I disliked;
The CGI in some of the scenes is rough and very noticeable in places, however this seems to be an issue with the earlier episodes and there is an improvement in the later ones.
The pacing is a little off in places, I felt that the first half of the show was too slow and the second half was too fast - I would have loved to have seen some of the action spread across more episodes.
Some of the loose ends in the previous seasons weren't addressed or answered in this season, and some of the scenes felt like they were just there for the sake of trying to answer past questions without actually giving it much thought (such as Five and his Commission storyline).
Related the previous two points, I felt like the plot was a little weaker than in S1 and 2, I wish that they'd really made the "foundations" of the season more solid. The best way I can describe it is that it felt more like a first draft.
The Sparrows were criminally underused and felt one-dimensional at times, which is a shame because they were interesting characters with equally interesting powers, and I thought they would have more of a presence given the amount of promo content. And maybe this was just me, but I felt like Alphonso's character was merely there to make fat jokes about.
Again, maybe it's just me but it felt like some of the Umbrellas hardly used their powers. I think it's most noticeable with Five whom in the previous seasons would blink everywhere, whereas he hardly did that this season. I don't know if this was due to the constraints of the special effects budget?
The ending was interesting, I've very torn on it because on one hand I like how everything comes together yet leaves it open for another season, but on the other hand it felt slightly like a rushed afterthought
Things I liked;
The footloose scene, enough said 💃
Having said what I did about the CGI, there are some downright beautiful scenes with wonderful cinematography in the later episodes. I feel like they really tried to do some some atmospheric shots and backdrops and it paid off.
I really enjoyed the relationships between some of the characters in this season. Luther and Viktor have some really great heartfelt scenes, and Lila and Diego make a great duo. Five and Klaus have some nice scenes too which was great because I was hoping for some. But of all of them I really liked the progress of Lila and Five's relationship from S2 to 3, you can really see that they're starting to warm up to each other.
I've seen some criticism about the music choices but I actually really liked it. The songs were softer and more subdued than past seasons which were more upbeat, which I felt really worked with the tone of the season.
Luther's character really shines this season, he's given much more screen-time and I'm glad that they decided to do so, because all of his scenes are very enjoyable to watch. I know a lot of people who were unsure of Luther have changed their minds following S3.
Viktor's and Klaus' character arc was also really good, it's great to see them more confident with both themselves and their powers.
Overall, I got the feeling that S3 was aiming to recreate the vibe that S1 had, but didn't quite manage to get there, there were so many great opportunities for certain scenes to progress and then they fell short. But on the other hand, I do think there were some really enjoyable scenes between the siblings, and it's nice for the show to delve more into the characters and the bonds between them. I also felt like it did answer a lot of questions about Reginald and his motives for the academy, so it's worth watching it to get more understanding regarding that.
TLDR: There are some pacing issues and the plot is rather shaky in places, but it's enjoyable to watch merely for the bonding scenes between the siblings. I think the main thing is to go into S3 without any expectations - I think the fandom has come up with some great ideas so S3 in reality felt a little lacklustre. But despite its shortcomings and the odd scene here and there, I really did enjoy watching it and I will probably rewatch it again. 6.5/10

i just finished s3 of tua and !!!!! i love klaus and five and allison!! (and the others too obvi) they really stood out this season!
oh 100% anon, allison was for sure THE sibling this season. emmy's acting was so on point in conveying how easily grief can turn into rage, you really feel for her despite it all and then she reaches some points of no return and you're left so lost. her eyes throughtout the season?????? i got chills. i'm still trying to decide if i loved every thing about the way her storyline was told but she was incredibly captivating for sure.
five is the one character that manages to stay consistent with himself despite the writers’ best efforts to throw previous characterizations to hell, more often than not and i LOVE this for him because he really is magnetic in every thing he does. i adored him this season like always, i'm glad we got to see his softer side but i also liked he never really felt out of character, his chat with viktor was a perfect summary of his character. again, some choices were made about him that don't make any sense to me but i'll keep ruminating on those.
klaus, well, i don't think i could ever love him less. i'm sick and tired of the trope of 'no one ever noticing your damn sibling is gone until 3085203523 hours later' so there's that and i have my reserves about how they used him as a plot device for reginald but but but, if we're talking about the good things, i loved seeing his powers explored some more! and i'm sad we didn't see him use them to fight before whatever happened in the finale happened. robert was great as usual, he is constantly balancing between carefree and soft with his tone and body acting, i was happy to see him in a more pivotal role ♥
in the end, even tho i think there were several things that could have been handled better, the only sibling whose storyline i completely disliked was luther. the rest had their moments!

I'm such a fan of your writing, and I had to tell you one of the things I love most is how you don't shy away from negative character traits. Sometimes it feels like when people are really invested in a character, they'll do everything they can to smooth their edges and tell us that 'they aren't really mean, just misunderstood' to explain away every bad thing they've ever done and it drives me batty. Character flaws are what makes them interesting, and it's so refreshing to see someone embrace them and actually reflect on the character as they're written instead of some romanticized version of them. It leads to such a deeper, more nuanced understanding, and you explore it so well.
Particularly with Five, he's a complicated guy who has undeniably experienced a lifetime of trauma and had a shitty hand dealt to him. But I've seen a trend in the tua fandom where they feel so sorry for him that they don't want to acknowledge that he's done anything wrong, or they get very defensive when it comes to his more abrasive personality traits and actions. (To put it lightly.) I don't want to knock how people want to consume their media or write their stories, because it's all for their own enjoyment, but I wish more could understand that when you take those away it not only severely diminishes his character, but also where you can take him.
Life is messy, no great character is purely good or evil but some ugly mixture of the two. I'm so glad there are people like you who really get that and have such a solid grasp of one of my favorite characters. Thank you for doing him justice!
Thank you, thank you! So kind of you to say!
I'm with you, anon, it's that gray space of characters, their flaws, that I think makes them so compelling. And we all need that softer, less complicated fluff sometimes, but why shy away from who a character is when you can dig in with your hands and sift through all those layers to find just what makes them tick, play with their contradictions and desires and morals. A Five without complications? Now, where's the fun in that ;) He's a little traumatized bastard of a man and I love him for it.

Thoughts about TUA S3 so far... 3 and a 1/3rd episodes in. Spoilers below!
So far, I have pretty mixed feelings about this season. I definitely like it more than S2, and mmmmaybe even more than S1, but it’s a bit early to tell. I just think it’s been super fun so far.
The parts I’ve really enjoyed so far are things like: -The dance battle, which was goofy as heck but it felt like serotonin shot straight to my brain lol. I loved it. - I’m LIVING for the sibling energy we’re getting with Klaus and Diego, and Klaus and Five, that’s fantastic. - The soundtrack is always superb. - Five is always superb. - Klaus is delightful in every scene and I adore that the writers are leaning more into his softness and not entirely making him comic relief. - Alphonso is just such a mood. I love how he’s just vibing in every scene. Man just wants to eat snacks, make jokes, and watch everyone fight. - KLAUS IS AMISH!!!! - Viktor and Allison have some really really good moments, and I enjoy how they’ve handled Viktor’s transition. I’m not trans, but I think those parts were really, really sweet and moving.  - Dad!Diego actually isn’t... so bad? He has some moments and while I still don’t like Diego/Lila, Stan is actually pretty charming. I’m not sure if I trust him, though. Something seems fishy about him. But I like him anyway. - I also love that we’re finally getting to see Allison crack and deal with some of her anger and trauma; it’s been a very very long time coming.
And this is great! But there are a few big points that I’m iffy on, and it’s primarily Reginald and the Sparrows.
The Sparrows seem to have an almost dystopian hold over the city, and have completely whipped Reginald through abuse and keeping him drugged. He’s become softer, almost timid under their treatment, and a fraction of a fraction of the cruel, spry egotist that we saw in S1 and S2.
It’s... interesting, to say the least. And Klaus’ desperation to have a loving father even now is painful. He wants a normal, happy family SO badly. This almost seems like his chance to have that, but I’m skeptical.
On one hand, I do want Klaus to have his ideal life with a family, and maybe even Sarah Beth. But I really, really, really do not want Reginald to be included in this family.
So far, Reginald’s depiction is sympathetic, which could be a problem, but the poetic justice of his situation can’t be ignored. He’s being treated as he treated Viktor, if to a yet seen lesser degree, and... gosh, while he does deserve worse, it’s impossible to miss that this is a clear representation of abusive parents suffering the consequences of their actions. Their children don’t love them, they don’t treat them like parents, ignore them, and, in some cases, abuse them in return, and the abusive parent just doesn’t understand why their kids don’t want to see them anymore.
Regardless of how soft or even almost likable this Reginald is (or seems to be, I’m still not sure it isn’t an act)... this still feels very realistic and tbh I can deal with that. My only qualm is that I have no idea how OUR Reginald could just take it and be so genial about being bossed around (assuming it isn’t an act). And I really hope some of that is explained, that we have some confirmation that Reginald was abusive to the Sparrows, giving them motive, or some sort of reversion back to our Old Reginald, because at the moment, it feels very OOC.
Like... alright. I am a firm believer that any character can have a redemption arc. Yes, even Reginald Hargreeves, horrible, awful father that he was.
To say that redemption is only exclusive to those who are “deserving” is a dangerous narrative, and I’ve... never really been fond of anyone saying that unironically. People should be allowed to grow and better themselves. ALL people. And, yeah, I know Reg isn’t real, so that doesn’t have to apply to a fictional character, but... if TUA is trying to redeem him, then I think that’s fine. That’s my point.
However, redemption does not and should not necessarily include acceptance or even forgiveness from those who have been hurt. Rather, redemption, especially for Reginald, should look like genuine regret and effort to change, preferably while acknowledging to the Umbrellas that he was not a good father. Then, I would hope, the Umbrellas would only work with him if necessary, and drop him for their own health. They have grown away from the Academy, and now it’s time that they cut off the source of their trauma: Reginald Hargreeves. I want to see him be a better person, but I also want the Umbrellas to know that they don’t have to keep him in their lives. They don’t NEED to associate with their abuser, even if he develops into a kinder man.
I could also critique my problems with Diego/Lila and Stan, or even Luther/Sloan (which btw I don’t have a problem with people who ship them, it’s fine, but I don’t particularly think either are healthy or well-written; they’re just not my cup of tea)... but for now, Reginald is my greatest narrative concern.
I guess we shall see.

Have you guys read @e-vasong‘s song remains the same au?
That AU makes me smile but also makes me sad that we never got any Ben & Five interaction in S2. C’mon Netflix, make it happen!! The Slytherin + Hufflepuff dynamic is TV gold!!
