So... I know I'm late...
But yea! I said I was coming back with some stickers and I kept my word! I would've hoped that I could've completed the sheet in like a day but as you can see...that didn't work out
I know I've been a bit MIA lately but burnout sucks. I do have a lot of WIPS I really want to work on but again, it seems that the ProcrastiNation hath struck my feeble mortal brain again.
But anyways:
I headcanon Aroace Mei, just a personal headcanon (disagree if you like) I also like lesbian Mei but thought I'd give some aroace appreciation
Silktea was only given 1 episode but OH BOY did it fuel our wild shipping habits. And I jumped on the bandwagon. It's a reference to that scene in She-Ra where Scorpia tells Catra she 'didn't want to do this' then wraps kitty up in the blankey and cradles her like a wee baby. And Sandy would do that for any friend, I will die on this hill
Saw a fanart where Mk had a pig nose themed pacifier and I just yoinked that idea. The pig hoodie and the pacifier seems like something Tang would do for Pigsy (also to get away with free noodles cause who can say no to that face?~)
Mac showing Wukong the lantern. What can I say, mans' fascinated by them pretty lights. Though our little performer's eyes seem to be straying from the show (^u ')
I know many people have issues with shipping with Nezha and such and I know the two had a rough history but y'know what fans do; they love to make the people who kill each other soulmates (platonic, romantic or otherwise) Even if it wasn't romantic, I still love the idea of them being buddies and just chilling, the danger noodle prince and the angy prince snuggle and watch a movie (mainly from Nezha 2019 but I also saw New Gods and can I just say, I want those two twinks to bicker then kiss awkwardly and I want Yun Xiang to BEAT. HIS. ASS) but in case anyone asks, I do perceive Nezha to be a consenting adult in general outside shipping drama and if the two are adults, it does make my heart squeal when I see these two hold hands and whatnot
HOW COULD I EVER FORGET MY SPICYBOIS, inspired by that one Ponyo kiss scene. I was actually gonna make a bigger piece but then I saw someone do it already in a much better fashion than I ever could and I just gave up on the idea but Ig here, its just like the two cakes mentality and I gave it a go. Hope I could do the concept justice
Have spider queen or scorpion queen ever interacted before? No. But they are both queens and I believe Spider Queen's confidence could rub off on Scorpion Queen and she'd appreciate the company of Spider Queen's children henchmen. Also she give yummy food so lesbian venomqueens for the win
Redraw of that moment with Peng and Azure. I normally detest that bird but these two do get some gears grinding and whatever anyone says. Neither of those two are straight. I'll tell ya that.
Toxicinsanity is another rarepair that had like 1 sec screen time. I don't think they'd ever work out in canon and had virtually no chemistry. I still love all the fluffy ship content I can find of them though and if it ever were to happen. I think the mayor would scare the sh!t out of Syntax
Let's get at least one hetero couple here, Chang'e and Hou'Yi are a couple of favorites ngl, I took most of their outfits from Over the moon cause both of them looked stunning, Chang'e especially. I've seen people ship mah girl with other people and while I do agree it's healthy to move on, in my heart she will always long for Hou'Yi
Also irl, on valentines, my mum took us out for lunch, she treated us to bubble tea and donuts. We walked home so I waited to drink mah drink in my room while I drew and I accidentally finished it all... I'm so sorry mum
f*ck I forgot ironbull. Uhh....I'll draw something later, rn I need to go to bed before I get yelled at...
click pic for less sh!ty quality!

Thinking about all the mxtx fics that gave effy names to their ocs/bg characters or straight up named them something that could not exist in Chinese pinyin again...
Tumblr media
Just so you know these are the basic pinyin combinations that exist.
That's not even going into dialects which is a whole other thing but as far as I've seen no one has tried to write LWJ speaking in gusu dialect yet which is the irl suzhou dialec
And please be careful what you name your characters, I've seen someone name their characters Blue Book, Blue Radish, Blue Smell, Blue Bag, Scenery
Also be careful with naming them after flowers because they might end up sounding like prostitute names
The thing is WWX's birth name is literally the character for baby so weird literal names can and do exist
Hell my aunt's Chinese name is literally 'rainbow', my yeye's name was 'genius' and my nainai's sworn sister (idk how to describe it they were basically such good friends they basically call each other sisters alongside like two other women and their and my family have reunion dinner once in a while) her name was literally High Cloud 高云
Even in svssss (not counting six balls) LBH's name is literally 'the icy Luo river'
But even then they at least have nice meanings even if they ate very literal, and not like objects (tho ngl 蓝香 lan xiang, is very pretty but the author intended it to be mean spice xiangliao香料 but xiang by itself really just means smells/fragrance)
Just, please please note that Chinese words meanings changes when paired with other words and lose that meaning when it's by itself.
Like 包 bao by itself means bag. 包子 baozi means dumpling. You cannot take out the zi子 away from baozi and keep the meaning of dumpling.
But the thing is, they were all not educated. I feel like educated ppl or people with money to go to a fortune teller get nice poetic names if not then the child gets a very literal name. Though I guess birth names could get away with being more literal. LooKING AT YOU CCSR AND WCZ YOU LITERALLY NAMED YOUR CHILD WEI BABY

10 BL Characters I Want Carnally
AKA I'm just a person with two keen eyes and dubious morals when it comes to enjoying media so don't take it seriously, I'm here for a good time.
Thank you @sndrys for tagging me! This was an eye opening experience putting this together. As it turns out I might have a type (ew).
1) Guy from Bake Me Please (2023)
The sole reason for me creating this list! Look, I dropped Bake Me Please almost immediately because it just wasn't for me BUT I've been lowkey watching through my dash. And let me tell you, my fingers gain consciousness and hit reblog everytime this baby's face pops up because...well...LOOK AT HIM. He is beautiful and he should get the guy (hehe get it) in the end idc.
Tumblr media
2) Yok from Not Me (2021)
Yok is such a beloved character and for good reason! He is sexy, he is gay, he sets buildings on fire and steals cops' wallets on accident because HOW WAS HE SUPPOSED TO KNOW THAT GUY HE WAS STALKING WAS A COP??? I love you Yok, never change.
Tumblr media
3) Palm from Never Let Me Go/ OurSkyy2 (2022-23)
The anger I felt for all the injustice and mistreatment our beautiful Palm had to face in this show took literal years off my life. It's rare for me to get this passionately protective over a character and yet here we are, in the Palm Protection Squad headquarters. Even Nueng is on the watchlist!
Tumblr media
4) Tonhon from Tonhon Chonlatee (2020)
Not to out myself as an enjoyer of silly goofy times , but I did have fun watching Fish Upon The Sky and Secret Crush On You, so OFCOURSE I thought I would like this one too but GOD was it rough. Did I still finish it? Yes. Did I fawn over PoddKhao pairing and have been quietly praying for some kind of reunion ever since? Also yes. Was I foaming at the mouth barking everytime Tonhon AKA Podd was on my screen? I'm not gonna comment without lawyer present.
Tumblr media
5) Tew from My Dear Gangster Oppa (2023)
Speaking of Tonhon Chonlatee...AH! Ai Long Nhai (TC's spiritual prequel of sorts) was sure...something. And by something I mean I saw Meen and decided I will never speak ill of men ever again, feminism quite literally left my body. And then a year later My Dear Gangster Oppa came out and guess what??! MEEN IS THE GANGSTER OPPA! Dreams really do come true, kids.
Tumblr media
6) Wen from Moonlight Chicken (2023)
(or Tian from ATOATS or Mueang Nan fron FUTS). Mix...I will eat you. Always so dewy and healthy and sparkly-eyed. But Wen from Moonlight Chicken is something out of the realm of my imagination. The sex appeal? The maturity?? The gentleness??!! Somebody sedate me before I say something I will not be able to justify in court.
Tumblr media
7) Vee from Love Mechanics (2022)
He is a pretty bisexual who makes the most abhorrent stupid decisions known to men and then weeps and suffers for them WHAT MORE DO YOU NEED? Once again, is the show flawless or even remotely coherent? Absolutely not. That being said Vee brought me so much joy by being stupid I'm forever grateful.
(also YinWar are so back GO WATCH JACK AND JOKER TRAILER)
Tumblr media
8) Prapai from Love In The Air (2022)
To a certain extent I've enjoyed every MAME show I've watched. To do that you need to possess the rare ability called "I abandoned every shred of moral integrity to gawk at hot men". And Prapai? MAN is this bitch hot. Tall dark handsome? Check! Bisexual on a bike? Check! Stubborn and annoying? CHECK!
Tumblr media
9) Xiang Hao Ting from HIStory3: Make Our Days Count (2019)
*incoherent wailing and sobbing* IM NOT EXPLAINING SHIT ABOUT HIM LEAVE ME ALONE
Tumblr media
10) AlanJeff from Pit Babe (2023)
My newest obsession! I refuse to separate our local senior citizen and his favorite prophetic mechanic. Both of them are hot as shit in their own way. Alan is a sexy dilf with so much weight and responsibility on his shoulders it's a miracle he retained his optimism and youthful awkwardness. And Jeff is a prickly baby-cow-baby-deer eyed baby that is so touch starved it's actually a little funny. SO I GUESS ALANJEFF SANDWICH IT IS.

Undead Unluck Week, Day 1: Favorite Negator
Hello, Undead Unluck fandom!! 😆 If I'm gonna be honest, I pretty much love every Negator that we've met so far (except for Ruin), but there are some that are my absolute favorites...!! 😁 Of course I love Andy and Fuuko, and Anno Un is MY BOY / THE GOAT; but if there's one Negator that I'd pick above the rest, it would have to be...:
Shen Xiang (Untruth)
Tumblr media
(I originally wanted to put my fanart of Shen here, but I'm still working on it...! 😅 Hopefully I'll finish it before the week is over!! 😁)
I remember when I first saw Shen in chapter 2, I was like: "Who is this goofball?" 🤔
Tumblr media
And as I continued to read, I was like: "I kinda like this goofball...!!" 😄 I mean, look how goofy this man gets!!:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also love fact that one minute, Shen looks like his normal adorable baby face on a bodybuilder's body in a fight, and then he'll look like THIS: 😵
Tumblr media
Speaking of Shen and fighting, one of things that we learn about Shen is that his dream is to be the strongest in all of creation...:
Tumblr media
I'm usually not a huge fan of characters who only care about constantly getting stronger because almost every time, if they lose a fight, they'll get upset about it and start to think that they are weak, so they train nonstop to become "stronger..." Though Shen does seem to have that similar mentality to "keep getting stronger", this was the moment that he felt different from a lot of those other characters in my opinion:
Tumblr media
He was smiling after he lost the fight and called the Union to come help in fighting / stopping Victor...!! 👀 I know that not every character that craves strength is a sore loser, but almost all of them have TOO MUCH PRIDE to let others help them in a fight!! 😤 So the fact that Shen had the Union come help was honestly really refreshing to me and it made me like him even more...!! 😄
One of Shen's standout moments has to be during the Summer Arc, where get to see his backstory and learn about why he wants to be the strongest in all of creation in the first place...!
Tumblr media
I'm not gonna get into too much as to why I love this arc SOOO MUCH (that'll be for another day 😉), but if it wasn't obvious, it's because Shen is the main focus of it!! 😍
One of the last things that I wanna talk about Shen is his relationship with Mui...!! 🤗 (Though, I'm probably gonna keep short so that I can bring it up another day...!! 😉)
Tumblr media
I just love how adorable their relationship is, especially whenever he calls her "Mui, my dear", IT'S JUST TOO CUTE!! 💗😍💗
Anyway, I think that all that I wanted to say about my boy Shen!! 😄 Sorry if this was a little bit too ramble-y, but I just love Shen a lot (and it doesn't help that I have a big stupid crush on this goober as well! 💗😌💗)
I'm gonna do my best to try and participate in all of UU Week 2024, so stay tuned!! 😊

REVIEW: The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
WARNING: Contains numerous SPOILERS, so CAUTION!
Okay. What can I say about this baby? I am simply OBSESSED and FOURTEEN for Luo Binghe. He is without a doubt my protégé, my precious, my everything! I would give my soul, my ass, my dog... EVERYTHING FOR HIM AND NEVER SORRY!
You may think I'm exaggerating, but I'm not. He's just a baby who needs a lot of love and a few therapy sessions. And, okay, maybe a few Love Yourself lessons with Kim Namjoon... I'm getting off track, but AGAIN...! Obviously, he's not my only favorite thing about this story. I love Shen Qingqiu. Like, SO MUCH! He has an extremely fun, attractive and captivating personality. Even if that personality is represented more internally, and externally, he's just trying to keep a poker face. Yet he's still that protagonist who will make you laugh at REALLY dubious moments – Mountain Maigu, I'm looking at you! – and make you question your own sanity because of it. But that's precisely why you simply can't help wanting to continue. Nor can you forget the fact that SV is very gripping when you realize how deep it goes into the characters' emotions. Especially, for me, when we see one in particular. Luo Binghe has a psychological journey that is the equivalent of a rollercoaster ride. He's broken, he's breaking and then getting back on his feet, only to fall a little further. It was really painful to get to the final chapters and see how clearly destroyed he was. How hurt, lonely and desperate he was. There were moments when I really just wanted to pick him up and smack that dear author. But, well... there wasn't much I could do. At least she didn't trick me and it was a happy ending. Well, I've already talked about the main couple – more about Binghe, but what can I do if I just love him so much? –, now I'm going to bring up another topic that I loved. The fact that SV is a great satire on novels with studly protagonists with a harem, where everything can be summed up and solved with sex. Mo Xiang Tong Xiu hit all the right notes here, bringing situations where it was possible to feel the criticism with an almost cruel veracity. The Maigu Mountain scene was undoubtedly the highlight of this satire. Because in it we have a Binghe completely fucked up emotionally and psychologically, without any conscience, with a fucked-up sword controlling him and a Shen Qingqiu who thinks that the whole situation can be solved with sex. Just because that's "common sense" in this kind of novel. And what really resolved everything in the end was the dialog. Something very simple, right? Simple, but difficult to execute. Even more so when you've had an eternity of misunderstandings between you and the other person. And that's precisely the situation BingQiu finds himself in almost from the start of the novel. And, of course, with a little extra help from the system that seemed obsessed with making everything worse. Honestly? I'm shocked at how smoothly and well things turned out. It could have been worse, believe me. Well, apart from that, another thing that stuck with me was the writing. God, I could drown in this shit and I'd still be begging for more! MXTX has a writing style that is really extremely captivating and that doesn't let you go once it's got you! Even more so thanks to the fact that you can REALLY feel the development and growth of the relationships between the characters. Both with the main characters and the secondary ones. Some may not get much attention, but you'll definitely still feel captivated by them at some point. The comedy here is also pure gold! I remember losing my breath and choking up several times while reading... So, to sum up... Read it. READ SV AND JOIN ME IN THE CIRCLE OF PROTECTION FOR LUO BINGHE!!!

[suddenly the Eclipse twins, the Lunar Nodelets, and the rest of the adopted kids come waltzing in for supper time.]
Lol, when was even the last time Canon!SWK even saw his Chen? That will be one hell of a trip!
[Canon!Mac: "Why do you both have like 13 kids!?" Canon!SWK: "And is one of them... is one of them a bone demon!?"]
Not a word about the ink demon, I see? That's mean.
[Canon! Shadowpeach: "SHE'S WHAT!?"]
Can't imagine Canon!MK having an any better reaction. AU!Bai He gonna need to do some talking later.
[Luzhen's egg got made with added bonemeal]
Also, the questions about Luzhen!
"So, did you guys make a kid?" Canon!SWK looks over the little look-a-like.
"Nuwa and Hou Tu did."
"Huh?!"
"I suspect genetically he is my brother."
"HUH?!?!"
Canon!SWK gonna be on the floor, all curled up and wheezing in ultrasonic decibels from THAT revelation.
[Canon Shadowpeach are paralyzed the first couple of times the Nodelets ran up to them for hello hugs.]
I get why and I understand why, but, man, I feel bad for the baby!
[Canon shadowpeach are more taken aback at how]
...complicated the pregnancies and births were - sympathetic connection, energy sharing, symptom feeling, the natural disasters during births...it's quite a lot.
I feel like, Canon!Shadowpeach be taking notes to maybe use a surrogate if they ever decide to have kids XD then again, they would be better informed as to what to expect, so who knows.
Does make me wonder how the rest of the Wukongverse took to the fact that the births caused storms/earthquakes. Wait, where they around when Shadowpeach were pregnant with the Nodelets? Cus, imagine them walking in all like "Heyo, we're here!" only for an earthquake to knock them off their feet! What'd they even do? The youngers probs distracted with Bai He and Yellow Tusk, middles maybe gone out to help the big kids because sitting makes them feel useless, the elders probs doing their best not to freak out, I guess.
[Lol, when was even the last time Canon!SWK even saw his Chen? That will be one hell of a trip!]
Since, Lotus Lantern's Chen Xiang has yet to be mentioned in the LMK verse, I bet Canon!SWK/"Dawn" hasn't seen his tudi is literal centuries. Au!Chen looks to be in his late 20s/early 30s, so it throws Canon!SWK off a bit. When did his little tudi get so big!? Probably a reunion hug or two occurs between them.
Canon!SWK, delighted: "How are you even here? I though you bit the mortal dust like centuries ago." Au!Chen, nervously: "Uhhh... it's along story. Basically I did a You and got trapped for a while." Canon!Macaque, nodding: "Ah say no more." Canon!SWK, confused and a little offended: "What do you mean Did a Me?"
Chen and the AU!Shadowpeach refuse to clarify for the rest of the meeting.
[Not a word about the ink demon, I see? That's mean.]
Tbf, Mozhi the Ink Demon looks mostly like a goth palatte swap of MK, so the Canon LMK Character's have a moment of "Wait is that an MK or another kid?" before the ink demon straight up jumps into a magazine.
Canon!MK: "Was that the Curse from the Scroll of Memory!?" Au!MK: "Yeah. I accidentally gave him an indentity and he lives here now." Canon LMK gang: "..." Canon!MK, a little nervous: "OK, I guess thats a thing to look out for too." Canon!SWK: "How is he as a housemate?" Au!Macaque: "He leaves ink stains and unwanted psychoanalysis everywhere... but he's good at telling stories to the kids." Mozhi (from the magazine): "I'm not allowed tell them the good stories though." *pouts* Au!SWK: "We told you; no telling the cubs about homicides until they're at least sixteen."
Canonverse decides to keep Mozhi in mind for if MK ever tries to seek Cursed Scroll therapy in their world.
[Canon!SWK gonna be on the floor, all curled up and wheezing in ultrasonic decibels from THAT revelation.]
Canon!SWK: *on the floor curled up and wheezing* Smokey: "You just found out too, huh?" Canon!SWK: *nods head while whimpering* Cherry: "We gonna join you so we can all freak out as a group." Canon!SWK: *scoots to let the other two curl up too* Cherry, Smokey, and Canon!SWK: *anxious wheezing*
Tumblr media
[I get why and I understand why, but, man, I feel bad for the baby!]
Aww, don't worry. After confirming that Yuebei is all Baby and no LBD, the canon Shadowpeach duo would start reciprocating the hello hugs. They don't want her to develop a complex that indirectly repeats history afterall.
[I feel like, Canon!Shadowpeach be taking notes to maybe use a surrogate if they ever decide to have kids XD then again, they would be better informed as to what to expect, so who knows.]
They def take notes from the Au!Shadowpeach about what to expect and of the hurdles/symptoms they both had. It actually soothes them a bit to know that theres even at least an alternate version of them who've gone through natural kid-making, and have lots to share. They do pause at the "pregnancy debuffs you" and "labor causes magic to go haywire" parts tho. Maybe they'll organise something with Guanyin so Megapolis doesn't get literally rocked by the arrival of a Shadowpeach baby. And they def arent gonna be both pregnant at once like the Au duo did accidentally (Eclipse twins + Nodelets) - at least one of the Canon!Shadowpeach needs to be at semi-full power to protect the other + the Monkie Kid crew.
Canon!Shadowpeach def keep it quiet to the rest of their crew that they're thinking of having kids. Don't want Mei and MK to get over-excited and spill the beans to all three Realms after all.
[Does make me wonder how the rest of the Wukongverse took to the fact that the births caused storms/earthquakes.]
The other monkeys arrive in the TMKATI universe for a Wukongverse meeting, not realising that they've wandered into the AU!Shadowpeach's delivery date. Lots of monkeys are rain-soaked and literall shaken.
The adult monkeys are out there literally pulling the earth back together and reversing winds so that the damage isn't so great. The younger monkeys are inside freaking out cus this is New territory for them. Bai He ends up being the one to distract for a change, she sticks on a cool baking show on the tv and the kiddos are all gathered in the sitting room/kitchen until the shaking stops.

i saw that you're currently reading my stand-in novel but you're not really spoiling anything. how are you finding it so far if i may ask? is it as angsty as people say it is?
(i waited until the end of the day to answer this because as i thought i've already finished the novel, so much for self-restraint lol also sorry this got a bit long... oops?)
i enjoyed it a lot! and it made me get over my reading slump, so i will even excuse it getting into some tropes i'm not particularly fond of at the end. it got cheesy…er, and not even in a way i like. amazingly, that didn't make me like it any less.
from the synopsis of the series and the tags in novel updates (and i only skimmed those because i didn't want to get spoiled) i had a pretty good idea of what the novel was going to be like, which is why i decided not to really liveblog since, transmigration aside, i'd say it's a pretty straightforward story. i could be persuaded to make a recap if there's interest though, since there's still over three weeks left until the series starts airing and i'm probably going to go over everything again and take notes anyway...
and oh, is it angsty! the whole thing hinges on zhou xiang (joe) being a sweet angel baby and yan mingxiu (ming) being a fucking idiot, and it's pretty much what you can expect from any dogblood/makjang with the scum ml, misunderstandings, heartbreak, regrets, etc. i have to say i'm not usually a fan of the misunderstanding trope bc i tend to find it annoying, but as with most tropes i don't particularly enjoy it's because of the way i often see it done. here it was painful for everyone involved, so i really liked it. also, please keep in mind that i'm a huge fan of big character development and characters redeeming themselves, so. there's that. wink wonk. (i've been reading some reviews and think for some people it may be best to know what kind of story this is before going in, other than because of triggers–which, very important if you need them, at least in the novel–because of the whole. scum ml more than anything lol even though yan mingxiu is not that scummy really!)
i love my stories character-driven, so having them being this well fleshed out and compelling was a joy, and being able to see so clearly what both zhou xiang and yan mingxiu were thinking and feeling, sometimes a lot earlier than they themselves could (please bl gods keep at least some of the internal monologue in the series, i am begging), was soooooo ugh. you're supposed to hate yan mingxiu allegedly but i just couldn't, not even in his scum era, because he was so obvious and so oblivious and so set in his own ideas he kept gaslighting himself into not noticing things. this could have gotten frustrating pretty easily, but again, everything feed into the delicious, delicious suffering. that being said, and because it doesn't seem to be a popular opinion... i think it's important to empathise with both of them, or at least sympathise, for maximum enjoyment of all that angst. you cannot cry over yan mingxiu's pain if you want him to get hit by a bus.
oh and the relationships (not only the cp's, though their progression is really good) are very important in this story, which is something i hope we get to see more of in the series because i ended up missing certain side characters in the later chapters. not tan yin though, i hope that fuck ass didn't make it into the series. how is a character so annoying while being in maybe six scenes total.
i can't say if it's good or not but it was extremely enjoyable, zhou xiang is my sweet darling angel baby, yan mingxiu is okay too (if you see me in the trenches defending him in about a month…), and i can't believe i am now, somehow, even more excited for my stand-in.

Xiang Liu's selfless love
(Lost You Forever)
He's the ultimate bad boy who seems very much like a walking red flag at first.
Many times, he reminded me of Choi Young Do (the other red flag 2nd male lead that I've loved). He's temperamental, borderline violent, and also exhibits borderline personality disorder considering the danger he puts himself and Xiao Yao/Xiao Liu in whenever they were together. (E.g. Throwing Xiao Liu off of Mao Qiu, leaving her to Chang Xuan knowing he'd be ruthless to her, etc.) But he's not the type of lover to baby his girlfriend and respects whatever she wants. If she says she has the ability to deal with consequences herself, he does not impose his opinion on her. It was only later that I realised every time he showed his "violent and animalistic" side, it was to prevent both Xiao Yao and himself from seeing him as someone who is capable of the love that Xiao Yao deserves. This was particularly evident when they left the gambling den and Xiao Yao says to Fang Fengbei (Xiang Liu), if she was the one who rescued Xiang Liu back then she would let him live as no one else but Fang Fengbei. This meant that he would never become involved in the war between Chenrong and her maternal family. Xiao Yao once asked her grandfather if he would accept a grandson-in-law who was his mortal enemy; showing that in her heart, Xiang Liu meant a lot and was someone she had considered. But FFB/XL could not allow that because there was no turning back or changing the fact that he will give his life to repay the kindness of the general who had saved him. The only thing that is stopping him is the group of men and the debt he must repay, and given that his character is one which would never tolerate betraying these people, he knows that he cannot let himself choose Xiao Yao over them.
FFB/XL also never answered Xiao Yao as to what kind of person is most suitable for transferring the poison bug because the main criterion is that this person must have feelings for the other person. He could not bring himself to say it, obviously. Because he's already fallen in love with her but he could never let her know.
In the epilogue of the novel written for Xiangliu's character, the soldiers debated about why he always wore white only. XL had only ever told Xiao Yao that it was simply a habit, his survival instinct. But the soldiers also learned that he wore white so that every time they were on the battleground, he became the walking bait and attracted the deadliest attacks, which allowed him to protect most of the soldiers to the best of his abilities. But he also willingly showed Xiao Yao his vulnerable side, something that is counterintuitive for a character like Xiang Liu - not only because he was supposedly a deadly killing machine but also it was an animal's way of showing their trust (if you know what I mean). No, this is no excuse for some of the insane things he's done and his temper but he selflessly saved Xiao Yao when she was technically dead. He traded his life for hers multiple times, including the time when he saved the one person who would care for her and love her. His love was not about having Xiao Yao for himself. And because he knew he couldn't abandon everything else, he did not allow either one of them to initiate a romantic relationship that might stop them both from being level-headed enough.
There is so much to say and I simply cannot have enough of this character. Throughout all of season 1, he was the only character I was constantly waiting for. It is not only that the character has been written so well but Tan Jianci has such amazing acting skills. The way his eyes expresses all the complex emotions is insane.

Cultural Annotations on New Gods: Yang Jian -Part 3-
Part 1|Part 2
I counted five periods of Yang Jian’s life that were depicted within the scroll.
1 - his childhood.
Tumblr media
2 - teenager cleaving Peach Mountain. His hair is in a half updo, opposed to his full updo as an adult. The totem on his pauldrons is most likely Yazi (睚眦) - the second son of the Dragon King, who has the body of a dragon and head of a jackal. As a creature that likes to fight and is aggressive, Yazi’s image is often used to adorn armor and weapons, normally found on cross-guards on swords. The Yazi here is a cute pup, fitting for baby Jian.
Tumblr media
3 - As a general in the war against Shang. His armor is decked with a red cape and he wields his signature trident. On his helmet are a pair of pheasant tail feathers called Lingzi (翎子) - which is indicative of the wearer as a warrior figure. The length of the feathers is also an indicator of the warrior's rank. This event was probably during the Battle of Muye, the decisive battle between Shang and Zhou. These flashbacks, like with Nezha Reborn, are the traditional depictions of the characters and are emphasized by the different art style.

4 - the disaster of the three realms twelve years ago. In Journey to the West, he was described as wearing “boots that were lined with cloth of gold; dragons coiled round his socks; His jade belt was decorated with the eight jewels”. He seems to have gained a new chest plate and notice how Yazi has also grown over the years from a cute pup to a ferocious beast with large fangs.

5 - bounty hunter. A tie-dyed bandanna covers his third eye - tie-dye was popular during the Eastern Jin and Southern and Northern Dynasties, where the extraction method of indigo dyes was recorded in the agricultural text Qimin Yaoshu (齐民要术).
His clothing is also described in chapter 40 of IOTG - “This Daoist wore a cloud crown with a fan, a robe the color of water with a silk sash around his waist, and hemp shoes on his feet.” This attire was typical of Disciples of Chan Daoism.
Wrist guards wrap around his index finger while his bounty hunter’s tally hangs from his belt. Despite falling into poverty, he still maintains an air of aristocracy with his white robes showing subtle intricate cloud details.
Blink and you’ll miss - during the battle at Mount Hua, he ripped his pants at the crotch lol.

Not that I think that the placement of Go pieces have any real significance, but I recreated the board for fun. Despite some minor inconsistencies (some black pieces disappeared and reappeared between shots, and the spot where Yang Jian hovered his piece is an illegal move), the game was mostly accurate. Btw, black is winning.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yang Jian had a noble upbringing and has retained his discipline over the years - his left hand is clenched while his right palm lies flat on his lap.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What the hell is a Fenix? In the movie, the Xuan Bird was translated as Fenix, however there is no direct english equivalent for this mythological bird. “Xuan” means black or mysterious, so some sources describe it as a black bird, while others call it a swallow. The Book of Songs dedicated a line to it: The Book of Songs dedicated a line to it: "The Xuan Bird of destiny descends to give birth to Shang."
Tumblr media
Fa Tian Xiang Di (法天象地) translated as “Heaven and Earth I rise to Thee” is the law of heaven and earth that is commonly mentioned in ancient texts. In Journey to the West, invoking Fa Tian Xiang Di grants the user the power to rise as high as the heavens and as vast as the earth. Only Erlang and Sun Wukong have this ability.
Tumblr media
The inscription on Yuding’s giant sword reads “福生无量”, a Daoist mantra. They are written in small seal script, an archaic form of Chinese calligraphy, and a variant form of seal script that became the standard during the Qin Dynasty. The characters are separated by the horizontal lines of the eight trigram figures.
Tumblr media
The moment Yang Jian knew exactly what would happen when Chenxiang ran toward his mother, yet was powerless to stop him. This scene BROKE me.
Tumblr media
In the post credits scene, Yunxiang (Nezha) asks Wukong “you couldn’t beat him?”, a nod to their battle at the beginning of Journey to the West where Erlang was able to subdue Wukong after 300 rounds of fighting.
Tumblr media
In the teaser for the sequel, Yang Jian is seen overlooking East Sea City/Donghai (the same city Nezha: Reborn was set), commenting “so many years have past again”. What he meant was, about 1500 years since Chenxiang cleaved Mount Hua. “So many years” is a gross understatement.

FAQs
What is Yang Jian’s origin story?
Yang Jian is a disciple of Chan Daoism, the third generation disciple of Yuanshi Tianzun, known as the Primeval Lord of Heaven, one of the highest deities of Daoism. The Jade Emperor really is his uncle. According to some legends, his mother Yaoji was imprisoned under Peach Mountain for falling in love with a mortal, breaking the laws of heaven. Yang Jian cleaved the mountain in order to save her.
If he’s heaven's prince, how did he fall so low? And where is his uncle the Jade Emperor?
Yang Jian doesn’t exactly have a great relationship with his uncle. It was the Jade Emperor who imprisoned his own sister under Peach Mountain, and Yang Jian wrecked havoc in heaven over this incident (not unlike what Sun Wukong did a few hundred years later). So obv he doesn’t associate with the other gods in the heavenly court, choosing instead to live elsewhere along with his six sworn brothers of Plum Mountain.
As for the whereabouts of the Jade Emperor, this is something the movie has not hinted. However in Nezha Reborn, Ao Guang mentioned it’s chaos up there [in heaven] right now.
If Yang Jian lost his powers, how was he able to phase through the jail’s barrier and overpower all of his opponents?
Most of the powers he lost pertain to the powers of his Eye of Heaven, which had the ability to differentiate truth from lies and see through deceptions and disguises and be used as an offensive weapon to fire continuous, highly destructive blasts of light energy and/or divine fire. He also lost the ability to manifest his primordial spirit, as well as the ability to fly. He does however retain his skills in the martial arts, primarily his “Nine Turns Mystical Arts” (九轉玄功), which grants him vast, physical durability of undefined limits and nigh-invulnerability to conventional weapons and various magic spells. His 72 transformations should be a part of this skill so whether he retained it or not remains to be seen.
It would be awesome to see him be able to transform though, it would suck if he were stuck bounty-hunting for the next 1500 years.
So how powerful is Yang Jian exactly?
In Journey to the West, he was unrivalled and the most ruthless among all of the gods - even the Monkey King could not defeat him. Another time, he single-handedly killed a beast that Wukong and Pigsy were struggling to fight. At the beginning of the movie, we got to see him finish off the ogre before it even had time to react. When outnumbered by Boss Hai and his goons, none of them could even lay a finger on him. Yang Jian is so powerful that even with his powers nerfed, the toughest opponents seem like small fries to him. During the battle at Mount Hua, his primordial spirit was so unbelievably massive that its body couldn’t even fit in the frame. The combined efforts of four gods could not hold him down and just one swipe of his axe was able to destroy Master Yuding and three heavenly kings. Yang Jian is no joke.
Tumblr media
How old is Yang Jian?
We know that Yang Jian was born after Jiang Ziya, a real life figure who was born in 1128 BC. Jiang Ziya was peers with his master Yuding, who already had a head of gray hair when he took Yang Jian in as a child. Going by this logic, we can estimate that Yang Jian’s age was about 20-30 when he participated in the battle against Shang, making his birth year between 1075 and 1066 BC. His age when he cleaved Peach Mountain is a broad estimate, as he looked much older than Chenxiang when he cleaved Lotus Peak, so it might not be that long before the events of IOTG. Yang Jian would’ve been about 1512 years old when Chenxiang was born, 1525 at the start of the movie, and 3093 years old today.
What is Yang Jian’s relation to Nezha?
They were allies. After the final battle in IOTG, a few of heaven’s warriors including Yang Jian and Nezha came to court to inform that they did not desire positions and wealth and asked to be liberated from service.
How does this tie in with Nezha Reborn?
I read a tragic leaked original ending for Yang Jian where they weren't able to free the fenixes and he was the one that becomes trapped under Lotus Peak. It took another 1000 years before Nezha freed him... talk about tragic life. By now, it is pretty much given that Yang Jian ending up in Donghai over a millenia later has something to do with the new Order of the Gods. It was repeated in Nezha that Ao Guang wants to establish a new order to improve his ranking on the list, and some theories say that the the fenixes being freed from Mount Hua heralded the end of the old Order. Sun Wukong also alluded that the list had been re-ordered more than once.

June Reading Recap
Heaven Official's Blessing: vol. 6 by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu. BOOK FOUR OF TGCF BABY, WE LOVE A DOWNWARD SPIRAL
I'm not saying that book four and all of the continuous trauma and misery that comes with it is my favorite part of TGCF as a whole, but I am saying it's very good for me personally and has some of my favorite moments.
Urban Jungle: The History and Future of Nature in the City by Ben Wilson. I read Darwin Comes to Town some years ago and was very struck by it (drove people around me crazy by referencing it constantly in conversation), so when I saw this book on a new releases table I immediately put it on my to-read list. I ended up being...not dissatisfied with it, but not really satisfied, either. A solid 3-star read, for some interesting stuff around how cities have and are dealing with the question of nature in an urban environment. Read interestingly paired with Fuzz by Mary Roach, which I also read recently.
I felt like in some places the author veered a little more into apologetics for why cities are good for nature, actually, than I found strictly convincing. But I'd say if you've got some spare time and any interest in urban infrastructure and the natural world, it's worth a read.
Clytemnestra by Costanza Casati. A second book in recent memory that was a retelling of a Greek myth and didn't make me actively angry! I don't know that I'd say I recommend it either, though. There were things I liked about it, and it was certainly interesting to see an iteration of the story of Clytemnestra that makes use of the version where Agamemnon was her second marriage and she had a previous husband and child. I think what I lost with that version, though, was that it ended up with an Agamemnon who was never anything but nasty and brutish, which, while I don't necessarily mind that as a version, I think makes for a slightly less compelling story. A genuine betrayal is always more fun than vindication of existing hatred, don't you know.
If you're as obsessed with Clytemnestra specifically as I am then I'd say to read this even though it's not the best work of Clytemnestra lit I've read, but otherwise I don't think I'd recommend it more broadly.
Superior: The Return of Race Science by Angela Saini. I checked this one out from the library and was deeply self conscious as the librarian was looking at the title, because boy could that go a lot of directions. Ultimately, I appreciated a lot of what this book was doing, and learned a great deal, but I don't think I'd say I enjoyed it, even in the sense that one can enjoy a book like this. I felt like it dwelt a lot more on the history of race science than I was expecting it to, and didn't dig as much into the current (as in, past 10 years) resurgence as I would've liked. She got into some of it, but it felt like most of the book was more about the 20th century than the 21st. Still, though, a compelling and thorough overview of the history of race science in Europe and North America.
The Gathering Storm / Towers of Midnight / A Memory of Light by Robert Jordan. I feel like I have no way of objectively assessing Wheel of Time as a series because it is so intensely intertwined with a whole bunch of really strong emotions and I recognize that. That being said, I did cry during A Memory of Light so I was obligated to give it five stars by my own rule, even if overall I don't think it's one of my favorites. I spent too much time during this readthrough thinking about Brandon Sanderson-isms and I would have appreciated if I hadn't been doing that, but I wouldn't have been doing it if it didn't feel so obvious to me.
I think of these three The Gathering Storm is my personal favorite. Reading Rand in it got really rough, though, and I think I'm sort of in the minority in not hating the catharsis on Dragonmount at the end. I can see peoples' points with it, but for me personally I don't think the tension could've gone on any longer and I don't know that I have a tone-consistent way of releasing it that I would've written.
That's all for June, which was a pretty slow reading month...probably going into another one for July. Currently I'm reading Bloodlands: Europe Between Hitler and Stalin by Timothy Snyder (a historian I've read before and really liked); I'm not sure what I'm going to read next but leaning toward one of the SFF new releases waiting for me on my shelf. Maybe Witch King by Martha Wells. I do want to try to finish QJJ this month, also - I'm very close to the end, just need to sit down and read the rest in ~an hour or so.
Also: taking horror novel recommendations, I've been feeling a hankering lately.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Director: Wang Kai / Yang Haiting Screenwriter: Zhang Yu / Martin Starring: Chen Haomin / Lin Zicong / Zhang Yangguoer / Liu Fengchao / Zhao Guanyu / Zhou Luoyi / Zhang Yuebin / Zhu Xiang / Li Zitian / Yao Ying Genre: Costume Country/Region of Production: Mainland China Language: Mandarin Chinese Also known as: 混世魔童红孩儿 Type: Retelling
Summary:
Five hundred years ago, after Princess Iron Fan became pregnant, she wanted her child to live forever, so she stole a life-preserving pill from Taishang Laojun. After taking the life-preserving pill, the baby will be born after twenty months of pregnancy, and his son will remain twenty years old forever. Unexpectedly, when she was taking the elixir for eight months, Sun Wukong (played by Liu Fengchao) caused a disturbance in heaven, and the alchemy furnace fell into the world. Princess Iron Fan had her baby kick and she gave birth to Red Boy. Because of the life-preserving pill, Red Boy will never grow up and has been fixed at the age of eight.
Red Boy was called a monster because he didn't grow up. There was only one shepherd boy who took good care of him. The shepherd boy said that he must not grow up because he possesses magic. Since he knows magic, he should do more good deeds. If he does good deeds, people will thank him and stop calling him a monster. But Red Boy never learned the magic, so the Bull Demon King was very worried. Red Boy wanted to use some tricks to deceive his father. Jade-Faced Fox (played by Zhou Luoyi) says that she can teach him, but she sabotages him when he performs magical skills. The cheating method is exposed, which makes the demons burst into laughter.
The Bull Demon King was furious, and Jade-Faced Fox called Red Boy a loser, fearing that it would disgrace the Bull Demon King's reputation in the demon world. The Bull Demon King abandoned his family under the temptation of Jade-Faced Fox, started a new family, and only doted on Jade-Faced Fox. In grief, Red Boy apologized to his mother, but Princess Iron Fan told him the truth. Because she secretly took the elixir, he would never grow up or practice magic. It was her own fault. Red Boy was in so much pain that he ran away from home. He vowed to cultivate magical skills and avoid shame.

Note
I've always found it strange that Winx/Specialist/Trix etc don't have surnames, In your Au they have them and if so which ones.
Me too, so I have of course given them names to match their family history. Let's go in order of appearance (roughly)
Bloom Peters, later Bloom Peters-Aglissier
Born: Virna Aglissier, which also means "bloom, blossom" and baby bloom magically projected her name which her adoptive parents 'translated' into their native language. Briefly also known as Varanda of Callisto
--
Stella XXXVI
Is the actual name she is born with, since royals on Solaria have a title name only, no personal one. Luna being an outsider and with common sense gave Stella a civilian name: Mariella Pregioni (Luna's maiden name is Giulia Pregioni)
---
Flora Augmenta Lisahani
Flora has no last name, all three of her names are given names. Her sister is called Miele Concordia Jojoba
---
Tecna Rahman, officially Tasha Rahman
Tecna adds their nickname to her official record after graduating Alfea
---
Yu En Musa
Musa has a two-syllabylic elf surname from her mother (Yu En Maylin) and not her fathers family name (Zhang Haobai)
---
Skyvian man-do Erendor, or Brandon Essikva (when undercover)
Among nobility, last names are comprised of their father's name, essentially meaning "son/daughter of someone"
---
Brandon Sanna, or "Prince Sky"
He also gets a Solarian title while courting Stella: Prince Consort Hector XVII
---
Tim Aubach
Self explanatory. The family of Timmy's father emigrated to Callisto from Earth a while ago
---
Riven El Falong
Uses Riven Sok on his visa and related records because his family name is a minority ethnic one and he feels safer that way. (Sok is like the most common last name, think Zuko saying Li)
---
Icadora Grimae, later Belladona Icy
All the Trix later adopt a mix of their current and past name (from Aegoda Belladona) . Icy's sister formerly known as Saphire is named Glissandra in butterfly verse
---
Dareena Darcei, later Padraigna Darcei
Darcy goes by a nickname formed from her last name interestingly. (ancestress: Padraigna Lyssis)
Alastormia M?, later Stormy Čestyl
Stormy lost most of her memories when Tharma (Čestyl Tharma) took over, so she doesn't know her last name actually
---
Layla Aisha Aghebe
Layla mostly just uses her first name and only Tritannus and Ligea still call her Aisha, becuase back when she was chosing her name she couldn't decide between the two
---
Helia Salador, born Helia Erica Mnemol
When Saladin sought asylum for him on Magics, he thought it was better to give him an official last name. The clerk made a mistake reading Saladin's handwriting and thus 'Salador' was created
---
Daphne Brelain Agglissier
Daughter of Oritel Vanu Aglissier And Marion Fiere Niancey. The royal family's name comes from one of the languiages that no longer exist on the planet due to their extreme cultural globalisation
---
Honourable mentions:
Roxana Birchfeld (Roxy) (Klaus Birchfeld and Morgana Pendragon)
Krystal Arancia Nadrujena Vigo (does have a last name)
Mirta Wingert
Lucy Luckhurst
Nova Berzanetti
Varanda Fiona de Numor
Diaspro Ien-do Drogo
Vanessa Vicenzio and Mike Peters
Nabu Tteke
Xiang Galatea
Paula "Poppy" Faragonda
Misandra Griffin
Mary Griselda
Farin Ebenezor Saladin
Kriszta DuFour
Ophelia Erhart
Antonio Wizgiz
Camilo Avalon

Enlisted the help of sister’s friend to help buy these Ang Ku Kueh (红龟粿) from Ji Xiang Confectionery (吉祥食品) located in Everton Park (Singapore). Also known as red tortoise cake, it is a small round or oval-shaped Chinese pastry with soft, sticky glutinous rice flour skin wrapped around a sweet central filling. It is molded to resemble a tortoise shell and is presented resting on a square piece of banana leaf. As suggested by its name, red tortoise cakes are traditionally red in color and has a sticky, chewy texture when eaten. Red tortoise cakes are shaped like tortoise shells because the Chinese traditionally believed that eating tortoises would bring longevity to those who are eating it and bring about good fortune and prosperity. Considered to be auspicious items, these sweet pastries are especially prepared during important festivals such as Chinese New Year as offerings to the Chinese deities and also to celebrate baby’s one month celebration (满月).
Tumblr media
The Red Tortoise Cakes (S$1 each) came in two different flavours, namely Peanut (花生) and Sweet Bean (甜豆沙), while the yellow one is Corn (玉米) and purple is Yam (芋头). All the different fillings are great tasting on its own but crushed peanuts is especially fragrant so it is mum’s favourite.
