Hello! I just want to start out by saying, don’t feel bad if you’re not posting as often. Real life and writers block happen to everyone, just make sure you’re taking care of yourself. If you’re still looking for head cannon ideas I’d like to suggest ways Merlin is different/ not quite human. The show said he was magic incarnated and then didn’t really give us much.

AAAH fun!!

I remember a few anons and asks and exchanges happening over this topic a little while ago!!

Let's go!!

His teeth just straight up grow back. He has no idea that this is not normal until embarrassingly late in his life. Man's got shark teeth. Doesn't matter how many times they get knocked out or chipped or bloody, they always just... grow back.

I don't think he would have multiple of the same organ (say... two hearts a la The Doctor) but his heartbeat and pulse like... reverberates all over his body when you listen close/press your fingers to his pulse point. It's damn near impossible to monitor this guy's vitals because they're so... vibrate-y and weird and everywhere. Not even Gaius knows how to explain it really, and he's the guy that knows about all the... objects and shit that you find inside a human torso. Lance tries to take his pulse once when he's unconscious or something and like... freaks out.

His eyes are kinda cat-like in that they shine a bit at night, but only when he's being... sneaky? Or dangerous? Or serious? When he's just chilling out as Merlin he's as blind as everyone else is in the dark, but when his head's in the game, his magic sort of subconsciously heightens his senses. Being able to see in the dark with shiny reflective eyes is part of that, not that he notices.

He's really dextrous, really good with his hands. He never really... learnt to? But he can do that trick where you flip coins between your fingers, and he can do card tricks, even one handed. He can pick people's pockets really easily and he's very good and pouring out/cutting/weighing specific measurements because his hands are so steady.

He has a sixth sense, a la Spiderman, in that it's actually pretty hard to sneak up on him. Even if he isn't consciously aware that someone is stood right behind him, there's a far off corner of his brain that knows exactly who it is and what they're doing and whether they're looking at him or not and how long they've been there. He puts on a show of being easily startled because pretending to be a complete wimp is the only way he knows how to be consistent. He doesn't think he could pull of being normal (read: normally unflappable, though may jump occasionally) without it being obvious that he's hyper aware of his surroundings.

He’s straight up never broken a bone. Look, I think a lot of this physical stuff (seeing in the dark, teeth growing back, no broken bones) is a manifestation of his brain?? Like he’s so powerful, he genuinely believes, after his baby teeth fall out and grow back for the first time, that that’s just how teeth work. So his magic makes it happen without him even knowing. He needs to see in the dark, he expects to be able to see in the dark, so... he can. He really doesn’t think the fall out the tree was that bad, it doesn’t even hurt that much, so before his body has time to process and send pain signals... his magic has already fixed it.

I accidentally pressed post instead of save as draft, but it’s past midnight and I have work tomorrow, or... later today lol. So I’ll edit and add more soon!! Enjoy these ones for now though :D

*Later that day, Hanzo was laying on his bed listening to tones of musics, thinking about his next step. Maybe Kiriko already told everyone about his feelings and if she did, maybe I gonna be harder or easier to him. Maybe. Is a huge maybe. To think about his next move and organize his mind, he play a playlist with love song*

*He takes a deep breath paying attention to the lyrics; he closed his eyes and at the same moment, he could see your face, what makes him blush all by himself, but smiling. He could imagine moments with you that may never happen, but It may give him so courage to move on. He couldn't stop remembering your smile and laugh... oh, that smile got him so bad. He laughed feeling like a fool and covered his face with his hand, but then...suddenly someone takes his earphones off*

Genji- Brother!

Hanzo- AAAH! What?! *immediately sat on the bed and Genji stares at him confused* What's it?! Why?!

Genji- The hell is wrong with you...? *laughing and put the earphones on* Cinderella?!

Hanzo- *pause the song and takes the earphone back*...

Genji- You're listen to a love song playlist?! *laughing* You're so in love!

Hanzo- No! I'm not!

Genji- You are! *jumping in excitement* Yes yes yes yes!

Hanzo- No no no no! Can you shut up for a second?! *leaves the room*

Genji- I'll tell to papa Zenyatta! He'll be so happy!

Hanzo- I...! No! Just no!

Genji- But he said that you looked excited to try, brother. Come on! *Hold his arm* Free yourself for once!

Hanzo- I changed my mind! I won't try...

Genji- *giggles* The way you were laughing at yourself while listening to love songs...I don't think so. I don't think you'll try, but it will happen. I'm sure that you was imagine your lips kissing heeeer lips~ *giggles in maniac* Then you hold her waist and push her to you! The kiss intensifies and you start to feel everything! And then you take her to the bedroom and oh yeaaah! OH DADDY!~

Hanzo- Genji! *blushing harder* Stop it! This is disgusting!

Genji- Disgusting because you never tried. Come on, imagine a little bit! Juuust a little ~

Hanzo- I won't imagine such a disrespectful and private situation, I...! *accidentally imagining and blush* DAMMIT, GENJI!

Genji- YES! *laughing loud* That's the spirit!

Zenyatta- Is everything ok, boys? I could hear from the garden something like "oh daddy"?

Genji- Zen! *runs to him* I enter his room and he was laughing all by himself! And listen to love song! *points to Hanzo* He's in love!

Hanzo- *tries to say something but give up*... I hate you.

Zenyatta- *laughs* Hanzo, there's no shame about that. You can't hide this forever.

Hanzo- I'm not...I'm fine!

Zenyatta- Really? Because I invites miss y/n to have a dinner with us tonight.

Hanzo- You did WHAT?

Zenyatta- *laughs* I'm joking!

Genji- *laughs* Master! You're so funny for a monk!

Hanzo- ... *deep breath*

*Hanzo gets back to his room and lay down on the bad scrolling his phone looking for social midia like, Instagram. Ana and Phara posted photos from the barbecue party, he smiled and saw a photo where you and Cassidy were together. Hanzo sighs slowly fading with his smile*

Hanzo- They look good together...*Gives a zoom on your face* You deserve someone less problematic, right?

*He takes a deep breath and close his eyes leaving the cellphone on his side of the bed*

*To Hanzo, he dgon't deserve love and affection, doesn't actually know what is that. Before his mother passed away, he forget that sensation of being cared and loved and he still lives with guilty. His father only carried about business, sometimes he does took a time with his kids, but...he created Hanzo to be the next leader of Shimada. To him, he'll never be loved for who he is and was, his past hunt him eternally*

*In other hand...you have the same feeling*

You- He will never like me back! *crying and blowing the noise in the toilet paper*

Angela- That's not true, darling, you never gonna know if you dont ask him.

You- How can I ask something like that to someone a barely talk?!

Kiriko- I told you, y/n! He does like you back!

You- Not truuueee *crying* that's impossible!

Reinhardt- And why that, my child?! HAHA! You're so pretty! Smart and dedicate! If I was younger, I would definitely ask your hand! *laughs*

You- That's sweet, Reinhardt, but...*blows nose* He's different, you know?

Ana- Some things are hard for him, sweety, it may take a while.

Kiriko- I swear, I'll punch you in the face *sighs* He likes you, y/n! I talked to him!

Kiriko- He smiled like a idiot when I told him that you like him!

Angela- *giggles* You really told him that, Kiriko?

Kiriko- Of course I did!

You- .... *paralyzed* You told him that I have a crush on him?

Kiriko-...*smiles nervously* I mean...ops!

You- KIRIKO!

Kiriko- Hey hey! You'll thank me later! Like I said! He smiled like a idiot in love! Trust me! He likes you too! DON'T punch me!

Ana- Behave children...*sighs and put the hand on your shoulder* Darling, you should go talk to him...maybe he's confused too. Maybe he also think the same, that you don't like him.

You- Mm...You're right. How do I talk to him?

Angela- *laughs* If Kiriko says the truth, is just say a 'hi' that he'll immediately answer you!

Kiriko- He's a idiot, trust me.

Ana- Kiriko... *stares her*

Kiriko- But he does look a idiot in love! Come on!

Reinhardt- I'm a idiot for Ana Amari~ *hold her hand*

Ana- Oh! Reinhardt, not in front of the kids! *giggles*

Angela- *giggles* Go look for him later, y/n. Is very suprising for us that Hanzo is in love and is a very good thing. Me as a doctor, he needs attention and someone to trust...is a little more complicated than that, but you understand.

Reinhardt- He went trought some hard times, y/n... he need someone to trust his honour.

You- Yeah...I can see that *looked away and sighs*

Kiriko- And he likes you because is you, y/n...I know this man all my life and I never thought that he would fall in love someday. You're the one. His heart trusts in you for him and he chooses well.*smiles*

Ana- It'll be great for both of you.

Angela- Trust the process! *smiles*

You- *smiles* Thanks guys...really~

*At night, Overwatch has being called for a emergency reunion; everybody were sit down paying attention to Jack Morrison and Sojourn*

Sojourn- We have a red lights coming from Europe. Talon has attacked capital cities once again; Paris, Rome and Madri. We didn't find a reason, but we believe that Talon is again trying to call our attention. Soon they'll attack Lisboa.

Jack- We must arrive in Portugal before them, so...we need to hurry up.

Lucio- Right now? *worried*

Jack- Grab your stuffs, partners! We have a job to do. Dismiss!

*Minutes later on the reunion room, Ana, Sojourn and Jack is checking the map of Lisboa*

Ana- We should group up here in the first days, they may think here of a better landing spot. Open space, not much movement and hard to be detected by any type of security system.

Sojourn- If they attack from up?

Jack- Two sniper here and here, on the roofs... they'll have a better view than us. Any strange movement they'll alert.

Sojourn- For now, I believe we can't do much... *sighs* This is all we need for now.

Ana- I stay here with Phara...Hanzo and y/n in the roof on the other side.

Jack- Hanzo, yes... a great shooter, didn't know that y/n was a sniper.

Ana- Trust me *giggles* She learned a lot from me. She's very talent with a sniper.

Sojourn- *laughs* So now we have our own sniper?

Ana- After me, of course *giggle* She's great with all kind of weapon.

Jack- Sounds great, so...let's move on to the plane.

*On the plane, you sat in your chair, in front of you, Hanzo, that after sitting down he smirked at you a little nervous*

- Attention! *Jack stands up In the plane while take off* Here's the plane for now; we get down in Lisboa, we stick together and we have to build the camp in at least 3 different points. We'll stay in two groups of 5 and two of 2, listen closely to the names and groups! Group A...

*He started to say the names and sometimes you keep looking at Hanzo to see his reaction for some reason...you just can't take the eyes of him*

Jack- Group D, Hanzo and Y/N, also on the roofs to vigilance in the whole area.

Hanzo- *surprised and looked at you*

You- *Try not to make eye contact and not smile, you only look at Ana that smirked at you*

Sojourn- Soldiers and Warriors...prepare for land and battle in five hours!

*Minutes later everybody went quiet for the entire trip, most of then, sleeping, it was night time, maybe around 1am. Hanzo woke up from a nap and looked at you in front of him, taking a nap as well, he looked around notice that almost everyone fell sleep and others listen to music or watching something on the cellphone, tablets, whatever. He was the only one doing nothing*

*He looked at you again and pick up something from the pocket of his pants, it was small black box, he open it up looking at this beautiful pendent of a heart in red ruby stone. It wasn't only the heart, it was a pendent of a necklace made in gold that he actually bought for you a while ago. He sighs and close the small box and holding it with both hands on his lap; looked at you a few more times and looked away, looked at you and looked away, until you suddenly wake up, what makes him quickly put the box back in the pocket. You yawned and stretched on the chair, then noticing Hanzo also awake*

You- Hey...

Hanzo- Did you take a good nap?

You- Not really...my back hurts here *giggles*

Hanzo- So...we are together in that mission, huh?

You- Yeah, what a surprise, isn't it?

Hanzo- Yes, it is. I'm glad that it is you, honestly. *clears throat and looked away*

You- Really? Why's that? *smiles*

Hanzo- Well, now I get the chance to know you a little better *laughs nervously* We barely talked since you arrived at Overwatch.

You- Hanzo Shimada, we're in a mission... *laughing joking around with him* If you want to know me better, should have asked me on a date.

Hanzo- Ah...! Ye-yeah! Sure...! *blush* You're right... I know, is not the best time for that.

You- With you, anytime is good, mister Hanzo. *blush looking away*

Hanzo- Wha...?...!! *Feelings his body crawl*

Jack- *appears from the pilot cabin* We're arriving in 2 hours...? *watching everyone sleeping and sighs* Well...Hanzo, Y/N, if anyone has to prepare for landing, wake them up, ok?

Hanzo and you- Yes, captain.

*Both looked at each other and laughed blushing*

*After landing, everyone helped to build the base that was located close to the city, in the middle of the forest for not be detected or scare the civilians. Hanzo was sitting and checking his arrows, Jack walked to him while drinking his almost morning American coffee*

Jack- I'm still impress with you and your ability with a bow. Good old fashion.

Hanzo- *sighs and smiles* Good old fashion...yeah.

Jack- So...you and miss y/n...*Hanzo immediately froze* Are you two having sex?

Hanzo- WHA...?! Captain Morrison, I respectfully understand your curiosity and honesty, but...what the hell?!

Jack- *laughs* Yeah, I heard you guys speaking in the back of the plane there...You guys have a good vibe. You like her?

Hanzo- *blush and sighs* Yes...I do.

Jack- Since when?

Hanzo- Time enough to feel sick and crazy.

Jack- Wow, crazy in love? *giggles* Yeah... If you really love her, better expect some of the worst in battles.

Hanzo- I'll protect her, captain... I must.

Jack- Protect yourself too, dont forget that without you, she may die...if you're the one that'll protect her.

Sojourn- She's a not a little girl, soldiers. *laughs and walks to them* She's stronger than both of you together, trust me. *Hanzo smiles to her and she pointed to him* You better take care of my baby, got it?

Hanzo- Yes, ma'am...*blush and giggles*

Sojourn- Ana told me earlier about you guys...I was a little rough in past with this relationship stuffs in middle of war...but... love is what save us everyday.

Jack- Good that both of you are together almost everyday. Me and Vincent wasn't the same. *sighs*

Hanzo- Do you think that someday you'll see him again, captain?

Jack- I hope not... He may be happy with a new family and...Honestly? I'm a weak man when comes to love, Hanzo.

Sojourn- Everyone, Jack. When you love, you let your guard down, so...careful, Hanzo.

Hanzo- Both of us knows that...don't worry *smiles to her*

Sojourn- *laughs* You're a good looking man, Hanzo... and a good man. She's lucky. Well, don't forget that you and her will be in positions in one hour.

Hanzo- Yes, ma'am.

Jack- *giggles* Young love... *take a sip on his coffee and look at Hanzo* I got you in my sight...careful, young man.

Hanzo- *nodded and smiles and Jack walks away* Ana Amari...you told everyone...? *laughs*

Shadamy Swordland | Ch 1 | The Hayloft

In reference to this post Sorry if it’s a little long!I might add a second chapter to this. I got carried away and alrady wrote the draft, aaah! ^^

The Chaos energy that we know from the canon is seen here as a source of magical powers. One can master spells and learn the sacred arts to perform them. Special thanks to @shadamyheadcanons for writing all these beautiful headcanons. You may not know, but your writings are a huge inspiration to me and brighten up my day (: I’m not even sure whether I write well, but here goes, lol! ___________________________________________

There’s a hidden entrance to the hayloft above the stables-building where Shadow used withdraw himself after a day of training his students or intense swordfights. It’s accessed by a ladder, stuffed away in a dark corner of the stables-building. One must know about it’s existence to use it or one will not even find it. To keep it like this, Shadow told no one about it, so he’d be left alone, even if he has a pleasant home to go to. His house was located near the central square on the academy and therefore way too noisy for him. Shadow liked the quiet so he could think. He was sensitive to incentives, which could be a blessing and a curse all at once. In addition to the crowdy location of his home, there’d also be the many, many encounters he’d have with young female students who always ‘happened’ to run into him on his way home that he’d rather go without. Notorious for being an excellent swordsman and a noble too, there’d always be female students trying to catch his eye. When both not intending to engage in nor interested in any romantic affair, he’d also feel extremely awkward not knowing how to let them down easily. He had a reputation of being blunt and did not want to add to it. Especially after he’d been called to the board to explain why there had been gossips around the academy about a romantic involvement with one of his students, Amy Rose.

He made clear to the board there was no such thing going on between them and offendedly told them that their presupposition was to be unheard of. He was her superior, she was his trainee. It was unthinkable that he’d become romantically involved with her. Even more so because he was a noble and she was not. No, Shadow had no interest in romance whatsoever. His work as a trainer and duty as a knight was too important to him and he did not let anything distract him from that. And so he returned to his hayloft, alone. Or so it seemed…

A cloaked Amy Rose snuck out of the trainees’ dorm in the middle of the night, remaining in the shadows of the academy buildings. When unable to avoid stepping into the range of the torchlights on the streets, she used her special skill to briefly turn invisible and disappeared into the shadows again. No one would catch a glimpse of her. She’d been doing it for about two months now and became more skilled in the art of hiding, blending into the background and admitted to herself that she even enjoyed sneaking around. Checking for the last time to see if the coast was clear, she placed her boots on the spurts of the ladder and carefully climbed up. Once she made it to the stables-building, she was safe. No one would come around at this hour and it was far away from the dorm. And that meant she didn’t have to be quiet anymore. A wave of excitement rushed through her as she stepped further, peaking around one of the wooden support-beams. Her trainer and now secret lover was napping in the hay, a twig of wheat between his lips, armor and sword removed. Even without any of it he was still extremely handsome.

“You’re here.” “Hey you!” Amy felt caught. She kept forgetting how well developed his senses were. A heat gushed to her cheeks. “Did no one see you?” “No. Surprisingly, there wasn’t anyone out there tonight.” Amy stepped in on him, out of the small, faint light that managed to beam into the loft. “Lucky you.” “I am. I get to spend time with you.” She seductively winked at him. “We see each other almost every day. I would say we already spend a lot of time together.” “Yes, but almost never can I do this…” Amy bent over and gave him a quick peck on the lips. Shadow then grasped her wrists and pulled her into him to passionately return her gesture and playfully pulled her over into the stack of hay he laid in. Twigs of straw flew up around them and the old, wooden floors creaked at her landing, slightly startling the horses in the stables beneath them. Cloak and rapier were taken off to be placed near his sword and amor. Besides her room at the dorm and the bathing facility, this was the only place where she’d put her sword away. Even when their district wasn’t engaged in a war currently, there were lots of obscure figures around with bad intentions and she should be able to handle them herself at all times. But not here. She was safe around him and could even pretend to be a damsel in destress if she wanted. She properly sat next to him, being handed a handmade clay cup with fresh water, which was all he could provide her up here. It was unevenly round and was a steal from the dorm-kitchen.

“Sadly you cannot. I was called to the board a few days ago.” “What? Why?” “They asked me to explain the apparently present gossips about us being romantically involved. I believe they bought my story, seeing how the apologized for the improper assumption after my offended reaction.” “There’s gossips about us? That’s bad! I cannot imagine who would have caught onto us. We’ve been really careful.” Amy chewed her lip and drew a sorrowfully face, staring at her reflection in the cup.

“Beats me.” “So, what did you tell them?” “I might have raised my voice and angrily scolded them for daring to accuse me of such foul, improper behaviour, you know?” Shadow said with a neutral expression. Amy heaved a sigh. “Plagues, Shadow! You really said that? Oh, who am I kidding? Of course that’s what you said!” “What are you being so dramatic for? It is in fact one of the very few assets that comes with the title of being a noble.” “You’re hopeless. Others will despise you for this kind of behaviour.” “What business do I have with others? Besides, they’re already not very fond of me. I’m an outsider and always will be. Anyway, we have got to be extra cautious from now on. They let me off with a warning, but this is serious.” “Serious, how?” “If they have the slightest proof that something is in fact going on, I’ll be suspended from training students and you’ll…” A long pause followed while Shadow looked away from her.

“You’ll be refrained from participating in battles, not allowing you to advance in your training or education. Worst case scenario might be that you’ll even be transferred to another academy.” “Aaargh! That’s so unfair!”

Amy intensified the grip on the cup enough to cause a crack in the enamel and angrily muttered about the ways she could scold the board for being this unreasonable. If it weren’t the middle of the night her somewhat impulsive, hot-headed nature might’ve gotten the best of her, storming off to the board to give them a piece of her mind. That was if they’d even let them see her. It wasn’t her place, coming from a lower-rank family. She furiously hated the hierarchy in the world and let out a curse. Shadow then grabbed her face and accidentally squeezed her muzzle a little too hard. Interrupting her many wrath-driven ideas to change the board’s vision, she was now forced to look at him. “I’m telling you now: you are NOT to mingle in this! I forbid it.”

“You forbid it?!” Amy broke away from his grip, bewildered and offended by his statement. “Yes, I forbid it. One of the benefits of being both your trainer and your lover. You’ll only make things look more suspicious.” An angry frown appeared on her face. “It’s not okay that they have that much power! I hate it! It shouldn’t matter! It doesn’t matter how big the gap between us is! I don’t understand how you’re not upset about this?!” “Fire and torments, Amy!” Shadow yelled at her. “Just get over it! Both our futures are at stake here! You have great potential to become a fine swordswomen and I’m not just saying that because you’re my trainee.” “So, our career-perspective is all that matters to you?” A sudden cold gushed through his body and Shadow’s face grew pale, leaving his hands to tremble and fists clenched. “How dare you say that to me?!” He whirled around, pushed her down and bent over her. The heart that had eagerly anticipated being with him tonight was now afraid of him for the first time in her life. It cramped inside her chest in fear, but that feeling faded to be replaced with a mixture of compassion and sadness when she caught his gaze. “BLAST, women! You’re the only person I choose to hang out with voluntarily. THE ONLY ONE!” A crack in his voice ended his scream. Startled by his outburst and her own false accusations, mean even in a way, Amy fell quiet. He wasn’t angry. He was afraid! Afraid to lose her. Shadow turned his face away from her, swallowed and bitterly stated: “If that’s what you think of me, you’d better take lea-“ Amy leaned in on Shadow, pulling him into her and silenced his doubts with a passionate, yet tender kiss. The hands that were clenched together as fists just a moment ago, opened up and slid under her back to lift her in his arms, holding her closer to his body. Her heartrate changed into a different pace, still rapid, but now driven by the intimate connection between them. She broke away from their kiss, eyes tearing up. “I don’t! At all!” He nodded at her once, closing the remaining distance between them again before she could entirely finished her sentence. He not only locked lips with her once more, but lifted her muzzle with his index-finger to force her gaze upon his. Amy then clasped her hands onto his back, slightly losing touch with reality with every touch. She ran her fingers through his quills in ways that made him shiver, returning his hasty, impatient ways of loving her. Shadow’s lips found their way to the soft lines that formed her jaw, then her neck and softly, heatedly blew in her ear, sending a hot rush through her veins. Abruptly he sat up. “Shadow, wha-“ He silenced her at once. His ears then twitched. Did he hear something? She held her breath. Suddenly the least of background sounds were highly present and she couldn’t differentiate them anymore. Luckily, as a feature of the ultimate lifeform, he was more than qualified to. When he breathed out at last, she followed his lead. “False alarm. I thought I heard something there for a minute.” Already leaning in to pick up where they left, Shadow was stopped by Amy. “Hey…I’m really sorry about before…” “Just promise me that you’ll stay out of it.” “I’ll bear with it.” “It’s only until you graduate. Now, can we please drop the subject?”

“Sure thing, my lord.”

She stuck out her tongue, knowing he hated to be called that and gave him a playful push, but was suddenly startled by the sound of a crack coming from the ladder. “Someone’s here!” She whispered with eyes wide open. She panicked, grasped in the direction of her belt to find that her sword still laid on the haystack and rushed over to get it. Being followed by Shadow, who also gathered his armor and sword and pulled her close to him. She looked at him in confusion. “Trust me, I have a trick up my sleeve: Chaos Control.” Having arrived at his house by teleportation caused by what Amy guessed was a high level sacred art spell, she heavily breathed out the tension in her body.

“That was amazing! How did you…What kind of spell was that?!”

“Plagues, Amy! Your cloak!”

“No, no, no!” she called out in despair, but regained hope when Shadow pointed out this was an excellent occasion for her to use her special skill.

He warped them back to the stables and hid somewhere, waiting for her to come back with the cloak.

Amy turned invisible and entered the spurts of the ladder as quiet as possible.

She quickly scanned the loft for the stranger. Her vision became more blurry when using her special skill, which was one of the downsides of it.

She was in luck: there was no one around. The other must have left.

There it was!

She swiftly footed her way to the piece of clothing, grabbed it and turned around to leave.

In the blink of an eye Amy regained visibility when a hand cupped her mouth from behind.

Amy let out a muffled cry.

The free hand of the stranger pushed her arms behind her back and fumbled the cloth around them.

“Surprise!”

Genocide! (the book. not like. actual genocide.)

Okay so it’s been a while since I posted one of my EDA reviews, and it’s been a while since I read this particular book (because I’ve been at a place where they don’t have wifi for about two months now so I couldn’t post it (since for some reason I always post these from the laptop but yeah ANYWAY.)) but here is another one of my weird reviews/liveblog things!

This time, it’s Genocide! And I think, if I remember correctly, I liked this one. Well. I mean. Jo is in this one, so of course I liked it. Anyway! I’m gonna read these reactions I had while reading this book now (cause my memory is awful and I literally remember nothing except that Jo was in it lol) and then maybe I’ll be able to tell you how I liked it!

As usual, here are my favourite bits of reactions/quotes/scenes/impressions from when I read this, and the full liveblog will be under the cut! Enjoy my rambly thoughts!

Okay, so here’s my thoughts about the book: I loved it! The fact that we’ve got a non humanoid species here (that I at first thought were Nimons - imagine my disappointment when I found out they weren’t) is so interesting, learning all about them (they have a smell alphabet?? that’s so cool) is so... interesting (yeah, this book is interesting, I know I say that a lot lol). And Jo. asdfgdasflgadgs. I love her. Having her there definitely made the whole book better, though in my opinion I would have really enjoyed the book so much even if she weren’t in it. The only sad thing is that we didn’t get to see her off. She was just gone suddenly! But I loved the book nonetheless.

hm ok so Sam determined that they are on earth where the invasion had already happened and humans are extinct just by seeing a river and thinking ‘oh yeah, could be the right size to be the thames’ like ??? how do you think you can say all that for sure from guessing that maybe that river you see there is a similar size to that of the Thames

Meet the Rider of Science, and his power of... Exposition!!! Yeah, it's a full review for Kamen Rider Build episode 1...

NOTE: After long consideration, I've decided to upgrade my First Impression into a full review. This doesn't necessarily mean I'll be doing the same for the following episodes. That part is... still undecided for now. If anything, I might end up doing a batch review for several episodes in each new post. Probably once a month, or at least a bi-weekly (2 episodes) release. Assuming I continue watching, of course! Also, don't expect this to be as thorough/detailed as my recap-view for "Kamen Rider Ghost". To be honest, that ended up being a bit taxing to produce... LOL. For this one in particular, I've already offered some points before, so I'm just going to expand on those. Let's start!

- Like I've pointed out before, the Pandora's Box mystery is intriguing. Sure, it's basically another plot-generating macguffin, but what is it really? Of course, after a few days, I've realized one thing: TOEI seems to have a thing with cubes lately! Remember "Doubutsu Sentai Zyuohger"? And also that recent 'odd' anime series, "Sekaisuru KADO". I'm so glad "Uchu Sentai Kyuranger" has the... balls to be different. LOL. - The interesting part about this item though, is that it gave clear confirmation to the series' time setting. Much like Kyuranger, this show is being set in the future, albeit not as distant as that current Super Hero Time counterpart (after all, Kyuranger takes place more than 300 years after humanity's first space exploration). This first episode began around 10 years after the elusive Box was discovered. And that occured during humanity's first landing on Mars! - As for the "Romance of Three Kingdom" angle I said before? That's due to what the Box created: the "Skywall Disaster". When the macguffin was triggered during the Martian Exploration's homecoming ceremony, it unleashed a mysterious impenetrable Skywall that divided Japan into... yes, THREE areas. Namely, Hokuto (blue, the social welfare), Seito red, the economic recovery), and Touto (green, the traditional pacifist). The last is where this series is set (for now, at least). We have three confirmed Kamen Riders as well, so I'm guessing they will represent the Rulers/Leaders for each area. Not unlike Liu Bei, Cao Cao, and Sun Quan, right? - Oh, one more thing... that mysterious worker who conveniently activated the Box and instigated the tragedy? I could be wrong, but I think it's quite obvious enough that he's none other than our protagonist. His amnesiac state and strange obsession curiosity to the Box that was shown afterwards, strongly supported this theory. - Protagonist Sentou Kiryuu (played by yet another JUNON Super Boy winner Atsuhiro Inukai) is still grating on my nerves. Yes, I HAVE warmed up to him after 3rd viewing (kind of... sort of...), but I'm still having trouble liking this guy. He's what you get if the duo of "Kamen Rider W" had a child together: the cocky side of Shoutarou Hidari, and the naive curiosity of Philip/Raito Sonozaki. Calling himself genius and self-praising his own invention? Yikes! That's Shoutarou's bad-side all right. Also... Spada Spada Spada!!! Sentou's body language reminds me of Kyuranger's Spada. But he's far from being as likeable. For now, that is. - Inspite of that, I do like the questions surrounding his 'forgotten past'. That creepy human-experimentation nightmare? Yeah, it's a strong nod to Shouwa Riders, with "Kamen Rider Black" being a great example. It doesn't take a genius to guess, that it's how he ended up becoming Kamen Rider Build. Introduced via the nightmares, was 'Bat-Man'.... I mean the bat-themed Faust leader Night Rogue. It seems this mysterious figure is pulling the strings behind these experimentations. - Speaking of experiments... Ryuuga Banjou (played by Eiji Akaso) is the recent in its long line of victim. This stupid 23 years old is easily my second favorite character so far. His actor have proven his ability to showcase emotions in "Kamen Rider Amazons S2" (I hated his character at first, but he evolved into a compelling audience-surrogate later on). So he's another strong talent for the protagonist side. He also shared that Shouwa Rider-esque backstory, which comfortably placed him on route to become the 2nd Rider, Kamen Rider Claws. But if, and only if, this show is indeed going through the Sangokuden path, will he end up becoming Sun Quan to Sentou's Liu Bei? Hmmmm.... that would be a heartbreaking twist, considering how heavily he's being shipped with Sentou right now. Then again, don't forget Shadowmoon... - If Ryuuga's second, who's my favorite character then? The answer is of course... Gentoku Himuro (played by Kensei Mikai). Contrary to my First Impression, he's not that ambiguous. He's a sleek-haired corporate-level douchebag, as evidenced by his sleazy move towards the lady journalist. He might look cool and tough, but at several occasions, he's acting like a spoiled brat! That's probably why I liked him even more! LOL. I admit, he's currently present to deliver exposition dump regarding the Pandora's Box. But he also had his own mystery, which means future potentials. Gentoku's one of the three bigwigs who experienced the Skywall disaster first hand. Yet in contrast to his words, he looked okay, and seemingly hasn't aged in 10 years. What's the deal with him then? What about those other two, the lady in white and middle-aged man? Are they the leaders of the two other areas now? Why is the buttons on his gray uniform is on the left, and not right side? If I do end up following this series, getting answers to those will probably be one of the few reasons. - There's more. These past few days, many have been connecting Gentoku with the supposed-antagonist Night Rogue. A nice theory, but a little too obvious one if you ask me. Unless of course, TOEI is going the exact same route to "Kamen Rider Ex-Aid". Which makes sense, since Gentoku shares MANY similarities to Kuroto Dan! Both are played by crowd-pleasing really-good-looking (I can't really argue that, can I... ;D) 30-something actors, both are corporate businessmen who somehow got involved with the protagonist, and they exuded a strong "I'm a villain" vibe from the very start of the show. Two of a kind! But that's also the reason why it's too obvious. I doubt TOEI is going to rehash the same twist so soon. - Personally, I'm currently suspecting his assistant Nariaki Utsumi (played by Yuki Ochi) to be the real face behind Night Rogue. Going back to my Sangokuden theory, there's a likelihood that Gentoku will serve as the show's Cao Cao. But remember, it wasn't Cao Cao who ended up becoming the bigger challenge to Liu Bei. It was Sima Yi, who was his right hand and also personal advisor. I hope you're getting my point here... - Misora Isurugi (played by Kaho Takada) is obviously the official sidekick for Sentou. I sincerely hope we'll see a development in her character soon, because for now, her listless attitude... is sucking the joy out of this series. Think of it, like grumpy Koyomi in "Kamen Rider Wizard". She made me abandoned that series! For some reason, Misora has the power to cleanse evil. That means she might end up becoming a key character later on. That's a story for another day though. She's just part of Sentou's glaring exposition dump now. - Freelance journalist Sawa Takigawa (played by Yukari Taki and Cafe Nascita owner Souichi Isurugi (played by Yasuyuki Maekawa) are also exposition tools! Their main contribution to the episode was to deliver explanations, such as: the unidentified life forms Smash, how Build could extract their Essence to turn them back into human, how Misora could purify the Essence to be used by Build later on, why Sentou ended up living in Nascita's hidden basement/bunker, Build's goals in this series, as well as about Ryuuga's criminal background. Sawa served as the first damsel-in-distress, while Souichi as... Spada, Spada, Spada (that use of Italian? duh...)... a comic relief support. He was NOT funny though. AT ALL. Generally annoying for my taste. - Aaah yes, the flat dry jokes just did NOT work. It's said that third time's the charm, but definitely not for this one. None of the humor made me laugh, not even once. Aside from being weak in materials and relies too much on slapstick, the comedic timing was also off. The optimist in me would say, "Better luck next episode", but the pessimist half is saying, "Cut the crap, and just focus on being serious!!!". - If there's one thing I easily enjoyed about this episode, it's the design and concept. I could be biased due to my love to "Kamen Rider W", but Build certainly emitted Double's flair of style. Likely due to Ryuta Tasaki being the director. The dual-elements is a such a neat concept, combining biological and technological, though it seems these will not be limited to those categories (we'll be getting elementals like Diamonds, Fire, and more). Yes, the whole Full Bottles gimmick is basically an excuse to promote toy collectibles/figures. But at least it allows a variety of combinations, or as the Build Driver say... "BEST MATCH". The fact that it's created using purified Smash's essence (Hedgehog is the example) is equally intriguing. That means every Smash serves a purpose to become a new power-base! What will happen if Build accidentally uses an evil one, then? Will he turn evil too? Hmmm... - Build's transformation scene feels very SCIENCEy with all those physics equations. All those metallurgy angle... I really dig that! Sadly, the finishing move "VOLTECH FINISH" is a complete opposite. It's meant to look cool, but for me it's cheesy because the use of Physics felt unnatural/forced. Really, I don't think it's possible for anyone to move that way. To sum up, the Science approach in this episode was a hit or miss for me. - Last but not least, the nicely choreographed action, helped elevate the episode's second half into something that was genuinely entertaining. The motorcycle chase against the Touto armed forces in particular, was a highlight. It's over the top, but exciting. Like many had said, it felt like a Kamen Rider show once again.

As far as first episode go, this was... okay to good. Not great, due to many reasons I've pointed out above. Unlike Kyuranger that instantly stole my attention and sped off with it, this one didn't accomplish as much. It's clearly handholding its audience with thorough explanations here and there, so the bulk of it was merely expositions. Just to be fair, it can't really be helped nor blamed, considering this IS only the first episode. I do however, hope things will 'build up' with more... 'natural' flow in the next one. That's probably when I can properly decide whether to pick this series up or not. So yeah, allow me to reiterate: this post does NOT mean I'll be following the series from now on. There are some nitpick-ish parts I still need to... 'shake off' first, but I do have some good enough reasons to give it a chance, at least until around the 5th-6th episode. Here's hoping the next ones will be able to convince me even more... Next Episode: Is Ryuuga a real killer? Time for a murder investigation...

i’ll ask my brother and attempt the naked island again while i wait. i read somewhere you can drop your stuff before you properly set foot on there and it helps a bit. plus it’ll be something he hasn’t done, haha

well, so far so good - i managed to drop a few of my best items and a small amount of food - apples and raw fish - before i stepped on, but i forgot to drink the defense up elixir. i DID remember to eat the extra hearts food, though, and a good thing, bc i came on during a fucking storm in the middle of the night and nearly got killed by some weird yellow octorok popping up out of the ground. fine now tho, all out of extra hearts but other than that good - found some shrooms, a sword, and an axe

oh my god i hit a barrel and DIED bc there was an electric chuchu in it!!!

okay trying again...in the storm again...forgot to drink my defense bonus again...Greay

lol and i died AGAIN bc i underestimated a bokoblin...i can't take out camps from afar with no arrows!! maybe i can try bombs next time, sigh

i hate getting out to this island

i hate everything ABOUT this island. it is deisnged to kill you. endless skeletons and fire chuchus are great if you need materials and weapons but the chuchus set everything on fire. and there are octoroks ringing the whole island AND on the actual island - there's no safe ground ANYWHERE!!

remembered to drink my elixir but nearly left the stuff i dropped floating in the ocean lol

gotta be a smarter way to do this bokblin camp on the hill. i can't take them all on at once and i can't detonate any of the explosive from afar with arrows, and bombs get me noticed. i can't take that swarm of enemies with no armor. no way.
