Let's start out this brand new location with some exteriors!!

If you know what this motel is called or where it is, please keep it to yourself. There are people out there who would love to go to a place like this to either trash it or steal things.

This is one of those locations that really had no information about it anywhere that I could find. I was unable to find out why or when it closed but I suspect it may have been around 2018 since there was a calendar hanging on the wall from that year. It didn't have particularly bad reviews, they were all about average.

Upon walking into the hotel, it looked as though they had left everything behind, about half of the rooms were still set up and almost ready for the next guest that never came. There were bed linens and pillows piled in the recreational room along a pool table, air hockey and foosball tables. The dining room had its tables and chairs still set up and even had table numbers sitting atop as if they were preparing for an event.

Near the front door were some tools and supplies, outside a small pile of brand new shingles. It seemed as though they had begun to renovate the motel or at the very least repairing the things of most importance. With the outdoor swimming pool looking very green, I wonder, where did the owners go, did they just vanish?

A few months ago, we investigated why there are so many abandoned Pizza Huts throughout the United States. I recently fell into an International House of Pancakes (IHOP) rabbit hole and asked myself the same question about this restaurant franchise.

Like Pizza Hut, IHOP still exists. Also like Pizza Hut, all original IHOP restaurants had an architecturally unique look to them. From the 1950s through the 70s, all IHOP restaurants sported a distinct A-frame structure. This lasted until 1979 when the last A-frame was built. Starting in the 1980s, they retired this look and opted for a more modern style.

Today, there are a handful of the original IHOP buildings left. The company didn't completely phase them out but they definitely abandoned many through the years. I've included photos of these vacant IHOP A-frames through the country.

I remember when our parents never let us crash at each others places. So instead, we stupidly chose to rebel by spending the entire night driving around endless empty backroads, filling the emptiness of the open road through songs we desperately wanted one another to hear, only to finally end up in some rundown abandoned motel parking lot. In the end we’d always end up falling asleep in your old shitty ford. If I could I would’ve spent my whole life doing just that.
