Changing of the guards;

It’s been a bit of a wild ride behind the scenes here at Actio Bellica these last few days. Our lovely admin team of Han, Cass, and Kels have decided to step down from leadership roles within the roleplay and follow some other dreams. But that doesn’t mean that Actio Bellica is going anywhere!

We’ve got two new lovely (if we do say so ourselves) admins stepping up to take the reins. Admins Mags (Alexis Bledel mascot) and Joey (Dan Levy mascot) will be leading the roleplay. These past two days we’ve been doing some housekeeping: updating pages, checking in with players, making sure all our ducks are in a row.

With our time pause in affect, lax to little activity won’t count against anyone until we unfreeze time again. We fully understand that there are many moving parts in play right now and we’re still getting used to our new unlimited power roles as well!

Timeline update;

Freeze, and rewind!

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. We’ve got a few things happening behind the scene.

we are now in the in game week of 26th december - 2nd of jan! check out the calendar here.

happy holidays, everyone! we’re still not in school time this week, so there aren’t any official morning announcements yet, but there a few things that all students should know as we approach the new term!

classes will resume on the third of january - the headmaster encourages (sternly) that everyone be on time and no one sleep in like last year and miss the train! the professors are far too busy this time of year to be following up on missing attendees. and binns is just getting far too old for that.

there has been talk of  delphine rosewood joining the faculty for a unspecified period of time. the details are strictly being kept to a ‘need to know’ basis, but it is has been decided that she will be running the dueling club. only dumbledore himself knows the reason behind this decision, but the students are speculating as they normally do!

for those at school, mcgonagall has put up notices around the hallways strictly forbidding them to be turned into ice rinks. pomfrey is busy with five too many skate-related incidents this afternoon and her patience is wearing thin, just as the ice is!

with the new year coming up, the staff want to remind everyone that fireworks are forbidden. detention will be the last of your worries if you’re caught setting them off! whether or not the rumor is true of a student losing an eye twenty years ago, students should still be wary.

and lastly, there is a person of interest that has been dressing mrs norris up in  costumes and mr filch will not rest until the culprit is found. if you know of anything, please report your findings to him, he is very distressed.

Because all students are now either tucked away warm and cozy in their homes (or wherever they have chosen to spend their holiday breaks) and Hogwarts isn’t on official school time, there is no Hogwarts Morning Announcement this week!

Welcome to our Holiday Break!

Just some housekeeping information for this break: If your character has gone home for break, they are welcome to write threads, self paras, or whatever you’d like quite literally anywhere, including Hogsmeade but not including Hogwarts itself, with anyone who is also not spending their break at Hogwarts. 

If your character is staying at Hogwarts, they can write threads/self paras within the castle, as usual, but students are also permitted to go to Hogsmeade between the hours of 9am-6pm every day (they must check out with a professor and then check back in by 6:30pm at the latest, with plenty of Aurors and off-duty professors keeping a general eye on the Hogsmeade area and students within). 

Please note that your character is either going home or staying at Hogwarts - they don’t get to do both! **If you write an open starter, please make sure to tag/indicate somewhere on your starter & in the open starter channel on discord where your character is!! Because of the nature of the break, the only time characters who are going home and characters who are staying at Hogwarts can interact with each other is if they’re both at Hogsmeade. 

We will be posting events for the Holidays shortly! (Yes, you heard that right - events! It’s going to be a bit different, but we hope fun!)

Essentially, this break is pretty much free reign! The only “rules” are what’s been already stated above. If you have any character-specific questions regarding break, please feel free to message us here and we’ll help you out! 

Finally, our usual already slightly wonky 2:1 ooc:in-game ratio is going to be a liiiittle extra wonky because breaks are weird. Bear with us! It might wind up being shorter than usual, might wind up being longer than usual, we’re going to gauge it out based on how it goes.

morning announcements #9

oh, hogwarts students, here we are on another glorious morning! the snow is falling, classes are winding down, ghosts are cuddling for warmth, you know what that all means - it’s almost time for our holiday break! we’re in the home stretch!

going on break soon doesn’t mean we don’t have room for more clubs on our roster! any and all are welcome to join. please, welcome these FOUR new clubs to our growing list: the divination club, the cat club, the book club, and the inventions club. 

in quidditch news from this past weekend: ravenclaw beat gryffindor with a score of 240-120, and slytherin beat hufflepuff with a score of 200-90! ravenclaw and slytherin are now tied for the quidditch cup with four points each, hufflepuff has three points, gryffindor has two points.

here’s a long awaited update of our house cup points! slytherin is currently in the lead with 1550 points, gryffindor is close behind in second with 1200, ravenclaw has third with 1180, and hufflepuff is in last with 880.

this is our last week before holiday break! please keep in mind, our last day of classes is friday, december 17th. the hogwarts express is leaving hogsmeade station promptly at 11am on saturday, december 18th. by then, the only students still at hogwarts should be those who have informed us they are staying over break. 

professor slughorn will be hosting his annual party on friday, december 17th! only those who have been invited may attend, though they are each allowed one date, so look around - if you’re interested in attending, you might want to try and suck up to somebody while you still have the chance!

the first day of hanukkah is on thursday, december 16th! happy hanukkah to all who celebrate! 

make sure to congratulate our very own antonin dolohov for winning the fall dueling tournament! 

lastly... as we’ve said several times already, this is the last week of classes of the year 1976. don’t go wild, please, we beg of you. you still have a full semester ahead of you once you return after break - think about future you. would your actions help them? if not, maybe rethink them!

good morning, good morning, good morning, hogwarts students! it is the start of a very chilly week here in the castle, and we’re ready to kick things off! 

the quidditch rankings from this weekend’s game are as follows: ravenclaw beat gryffindor with a score of 240-160, and hufflepuff beat slytherin with a score of 200-160! the race for the house cup is still anyone’s game, with gryffindor, ravenclaw, and hufflepuff each having two points and slytherin close behind with one point!

this weekend, hufflepuff and ravenclaw will be playing on friday, nov. 26th, and slytherin and gryffindor playing on saturday, nov. 27th. 

mid-term exams are next week! start studying! the library still has extended hours, despite a small mysterious fire taking out several stacks of our history of magic section, madam pince has persevered and managed to save most of our collection. we don’t believe professor binns has even noticed. 

please don’t set the library on fire again.

madam pince will quit, and we cannot stand to lose her. nobody else will take her position.

exciting news! professor weaver has decided she is going to head up a brand new cheerleading team for our quidditch games! tryouts will be on thursday evening. wear athletic shoes and clothing you can move in!

our wizards chess club has an exciting event on wednesday, nov. 24th: a speed chess tournament! this event will be held after classes in the great hall. the winner gets a brand new chess board and pieces provided by zonkos! 

because of recent events, of which we are all aware and do not need to go over, all prefects will be doing their rounds in pairs. there will be no exceptions to this rule.

Morning Announcements #3

Good morning, Hogwarts students. As a new week approaches, I know we’re all worried about the status of your classmates who were affected by the events of this past weekend. I am glad to have good news for you all: Most have made a swift recovery thanks to Madam Pomfrey’s quick actions, and those who have not yet fully recovered are due to be released from the hospital wing within the next couple of days. Please make sure not to bother the affected students with endless questions, for that is quite rude and crass, and I trust you all to quite the opposite.

Now, let’s get to our regularly scheduled announcements!

Our Quidditch season begins this weekend! The first game of the season will have Gryffindor playing Hufflepuff on Friday, November 5th, and on Saturday, November 6th, Slytherin will be playing Ravenclaw. Make sure to wear your house colors and support your team!

Apparition lesson sign-ups are officially closed! Lessons will begin at the end of this month for all those who signed up and paid the fee. 

We kindly ask that any metamorphmagi students avoid frequently changing into their professors before class to cause mass confusion. This has never been a problem in the past, but it seems this year is fully of overachievers! 

The dueling club is having another public meeting this week, all are welcome to attend, even those outside of the club who simply wish to watch and learn! We do kindly remind all club members - again - that no dangerous hexes and curses are to be used. Please give Madame Pomfrey a break. 

There appears to be a small army of students determined to thaw the frozen toads necessary for our Potions classwork. While we appreciate the spirit of revolution, we would also like to point out that no toads have been or will be harmed, it is simply in their nature to be frozen and in thawing them you are actually making it quite a bit worse for the poor blokes. 

Ministry officials will be visiting the Headmaster throughout the week, please, please, please do not cause any shenanigans while they are within these castle halls. They are here to help, and jelly leg jinxes will not help. 

Thank you to Professor Kettleburn for offering to remodel the Owlery! All Owls may be a touch more meddlesome this week while the Owlery is under construction, but they are soon to have a wonderful new home. Duck! 

Finally, in order to promote safety within these halls following the events of Halloween, we strongly encourage that every student walks with a partner to and from classes, their dormitories, and all extracurricular activities. We as professors are working on a system that would do well to keep all students out of harms way, you will of course be kept updated as we come to an agreement.

Morning Announcements #4

Good morning, Hogwarts students! Another beautiful week begins here at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I know you’re all wondering if the Aurors have any updates to their investigation, but if they do, they haven’t informed us. The good news is, everyone has fully recovered! Please give Madam Pomfrey a hand! 

Now, as always, let’s hear those announcements for the week!

This past weekend saw the beginning of our Quidditch season, and it’s certainly going to be a good one! To remind those who did not attend both games, Slytherin beat Ravenclaw by just 50 points, with a final score of 230-180, and Hufflepuff and Gryffindor ended their game in a shocking twist: A tie! Hufflepuff’s seeker caught the snitch at just the right time, bringing the score to an even 200 points.

This weekend’s Quidditch matches will see Gryffindor vs. Slytherin on Friday, Nov. 12th, and Ravenclaw vs. Hufflepuff on Saturday, Nov. 13th. 

There will be a full moon this Sunday, November 7th! Perfect for any witch or wizard currently housing a Mandrake leaf in their mouth. No further comment.

The kitchen elves have begun experimenting on some new recipes. We’re unsure who told them to start doing this, but please, be kind if you find that the flavors are rather... unsavory. We hope to return to our usual meals shortly. 

The remodeling of the owlery has been completed! Be sure to thank Professor Kettleburn if you see him, as a lot of work has gone into providing comfort for our favorite feathery friends. Professor Kettleburn has also pointed out to me that there are several notable non-owls who seem to be... for lack of a better word, bullying the school owls. If the owners of these birds could see to it that this is taken care of, that would be much appreciated. 

The Frog Choir will be holding their first performance this Thursday during dinner in the Great Hall! Be sure to be there and show your support, it will be a hopping good time. 

This week, Professor Ludwig has a very special treat for those students taking Muggle Studies this term: Muggle driving lessons, with a real car! As per Muggle law, these are only available for students aged fifteen and older, and only for those taking Muggle Studies... Though I’m sure Professor Ludwig would be glad to tack you on if you ask nicely. Lessons will take place on the Quidditch pitch throughout the week!

hello, hello, hello, good morning, hogwarts students! another crisp fall morning greets us, and we’re slowly inching closer to our holiday break - how exciting! even more exciting than that, strap yourselves in for some announcements!

the quidditch rankings from this weekend’s games have gryffindor beating slytherin with a score of 210-140, and ravenclaw beating hufflepuff with a score of 190-130! this puts gryffindor in the lead for the quidditch cup, with the other three houses tied at one win each.

this weekend we will see ravenclaw playing gryffindor on friday, nov. 19th, and hufflepuff playing slytherin on saturday, nov. 20th. 

our first mid-term exams are in a few short weeks! i hope students have begun studying hard! the library will begin with extended hours starting this week. be kind to madam pince, and more importantly, she’s asked me to remind you all to keep your voices down!

we still, unfortunately, have no news on when our weekly hogsmeade trips will resume. i understand it is frustrating, but please keep in mind, it’s for your own safety.

the knitting club has kindly requested that if anyone has spare fabric or old clothing lying around, please feel free to donate to the club! they’re working on some sort of project. i don’t know what this project is. i’m too afraid to ask.

there will be another art club showcase on wednesday, nov. 17th! stop by the third floor hall and show them your support!

Morning Announcements #1

Good morning Hogwarts students! As we approach the end of our first month in the castle, we would like to offer some announcements and reminders. 

Quidditch Tryouts have come to a close! We welcome all new and returning players to our House Quidditch teams, and look forward to another thrilling season in the chase for the Quidditch Cup. Practices begin this week! 

The Dueling Club will have its second official session this week. We would like to remind all members that the intent of this club is not to maim our fellow classmates, but to learn the proper technique in the unlikely event of a duel. Yes, I’m looking at you specifically. 

We have an exciting announcement regarding our Care of Magical Creatures classes: Professor Kettleburn has taken a baby Hebridean Black dragon under his wing - pardon the pun - for the next couple of weeks. This is an incredibly rare opportunity for anyone wishing to learn about these amazing beasts without losing their eyebrows. If you aren’t currently enrolled in Care of Magical Creatures, Professor Kettleburn still encourages you to swing by! 

Sign up sheets for our upcoming Apparition lessons are available for sixth year students in each house common room. Lessons will begin in November and cost 12 Galleons - lessons are not required for the Apparition test, which you can take upon turning seventeen, but they are strongly encouraged.  

We would like to gently remind all first year students that the changing staircases do not warrant a late pass to your classes. 

There will be a meteor shower on the night of Friday, October 1st! This will be an exciting event for our astronomy class, as well as our accompanying club. You won’t want to miss it!

The Ravenclaw House would like to offer a reminder to all fellow students from Hufflepuff, Gryffindor, and Slytherin to please stop pestering the eagle knocker for better riddles. This puts the knocker in a sour mood and makes it much harder to get into Ravenclaw Tower.

good morning, hogwarts students! merlin’s beard, it’s a cold one today, isn’t it? i hope you’re all bundled up warm and ready for some announcements as we enter the second week of december!

slytherin beat ravenclaw in their match this weekend with a score of 220-130, and hufflepuff beat gryffindor in their match with a score of 180-100. this means the quidditch cup is now in a three way tie between slytherin, ravenclaw, and hufflepuff, all with three total points towards the cup, and gryffindor sitting pretty at two total points. 

this weekend slytherin and hufflepuff will be facing off on friday, december 10th, and gryffindor and ravenclaw will be facing each other on saturday, december 11th. this will be the last quidditch match of the year before our holiday break! 

our very own dirk cresswell invites his hogwarts classmates to join his gobbledegook language club, where you too can learn the beautiful intricacies of the language of goblins! 

your mid-term examinations went swimmingly! i have no concern for you students - well, most of you, hearty chuckle here! oh, wait, i was not supposed to say that part out loud. i digress! we feel most everyone is well on track and where they need to be this year. congratulations! test scores will be mailed home at the end of this week.

the blue eared rat has been found. thank you all for your constant diligence.

the dueling club’s fall tournament is this week! evenings from tuesday, december 7th to thursday, december 9th, the dueling club will be having a tournament! all students are welcome to watch. the winner gets a prize! what’s the prize? well, you’ll have to go to the tournament to find out!

next week is our last week of classes in the year 1976! how exciting! we know this is a fun time for you all, and the next two weeks will probably be less focused on academics than we’d like, ahem. please remember that although mid-term exams have ended, you are all still learning!  

professor slughorn is seeking five volunteers to help test a new potion of his. he will not inform anyone what it is unless they volunteer first, but he assures me that it is both perfectly safe and perfectly ethical.

morning announcements #7

hello, good morning, hogwarts! we come to you again with some exciting announcements to kick off the new week at school! one general reminder is to please wear coats when walking about, as it is getting very cold, and heating charms can only take you so far. anyway!

ravenclaw has beat hufflepuff in their most recent quidditch game with a final score of 170-10! this was one of the fastest games in hogwarts history, with the snitch being caught only two minutes into the game! additionally, slytherin beat gryffindor with a final score of 200-90. ravenclaw is now in the lead for the house cup with three total points, with gryffindor, hufflepuff, and slytherin all close behind with two points! 

this weekend we will see gryffindor facing hufflepuff on friday, december 3rd and slytherin facing ravenclaw on saturday, december 4th. 

mid-term exams are this week! we hope you’ve been studying! the great hall will be closed during all class hours for exams. this will be the final week of the library’s extended hours until final examinations at the end of the school year. 

prefects will continue to do their rounds in pairs for the time being, despite the complaints from students that this has led to them “being found out” more often. we professors would like to remind these students that if you aren’t doing anything you shouldn’t, you wouldn’t have to worry about “being found out” in the first place. 

there seems to have been a bit of an... incident with the rat race club this weekend. if you see any rats with bright blue ears running around, please alert the nearest professor and do not - do not - touch the rat. 

this weekend, we saw a surprisingly large influx of students in the hospital wing for equally surprisingly similar reasons. while madam pomfrey has her theory as to why, every student has done a remarkable job of keeping their lips zipped, to which i personally say, good, snitches get- ahem, either way, i am keen to remind you all to be careful of your weekend activities, as being out of your dormitories past curfew does warrant multiple detentions. 

our winter break is quickly approaching! the last day of classes for the year will be friday, december 17th, and we will not see you again until the new year, on monday, january 3rd! sign up sheets should now be hanging in your common rooms to indicate whether or not you will be staying at hogwarts over holiday. please let us know as soon as possible whether or not you will be with us for break!
