Haven’t really drawn anything for my other Hellsing OC: Miriam Harris, so I drew a piece where she’s going up against the queen of vampires herself! Like Alucard and Anderson, it’s Miriam’s goal to kill Sorina and put her to rest. Their fights can get real nasty when they’re in the zone and their partners can’t help but watch in admiration and love when they’re supposed to be fighting each other😂

Today we celebrate our Venerable Mother Ita the Hermitess of Killeedy. Saint Ita was of illustrious descent and was born into Irish nobility. As a child, all marvelled at her purity and virtue, especially her generosity and gentleness in both word and deed. She excelled in the “six gifts” of Irish womanhood – wisdom, purity, beauty, music, sweet speech, and embroidery. Refusing to marry and spurning the worldly life of riches and comfort, she left the world and with her great inheritance, founded a school and convent at Killeedy, a county which still bears her name to this day. At her convent, she accepted children whom she raised into piety, many of them becoming great beacons of Christianity in Ireland, and thus, Saint Ita became known as the “Foster Mother of the Irish Saints”. One of the saints whom she raised from only a year old was Saint Brendan the Navigator, whom she instilled great Christian piety upon. She often counselled him about the three things most displeasing to God: a face that hates mankind, a will that clings to the love of evil, and placing one’s entire trust in riches. She also taught him the three things which are most pleasing to God: the firm belief of a pure heart in God, the simple religious life, and liberality with charity. Many, including Saint Brendan, would often come to her for spiritual counsel throughout their lives, and many received healing from her as she knew much about both physical and spiritual medicine. The Hermitess Ita reposed peacefully in the Lord at an old age. Her feast day remains a local holiday in her district and many Irish girls are named after the the Saint, being second in line to Saint Brigid of Kildare. May she intercede for us always + #saint #ita #ireland #hermit #hermitess #convent #monastery #nun #virtue #killeedy #irish #christian #spiritual #holy #mother #abbess #brendan #stbrendan #brigid #bridget #stbrigid #stbridget #kildare #fostermother #foster #irish #orthodox #saintoftheday (at Killeedy, Clare, Ireland) https://www.instagram.com/p/CnaQu37Bb3s/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

“God’s path has never been one of sadness, depression or anxiety. If I am upset, then I should know the devil is bringing despair or worry. We should examine ourselves and ask for God’s help. His promises in the Scripture are like healing medicine that can remove depression from our hearts and fill them with joy. Continuous prayer, the Jesus Prayer, has the same effect. Thus the devil cannot defeat me while I am armed; and my weapon is prayer and reliance on God.”

[C] 'MY' Style: Lady Dominion (OC) by Mast3r-Rainb0w
An art commission made for a original character (OC) via DeviantArt. She’s a beautiful yet menacing multi-armed monochromatic nun with a split personality, one LIGHT and one DARK. This OC belongs to their respective owner(s), but the artwork was made by yours truly! Enjoy!

Using specialized 3-D photography and digital imaging techniques, Hodgkinson and collaborators discovered the word “Eadburg” 15 times throughout the pages of the MS Selden Supra 30, a version of the New Testament’s Acts of the Apostles written in Latin.
They suspect the name may refer to an abbess who lived in Kent during the eighth century, as one particular Eadburg—the abbess of Minster-in-Thanet—likely had access to religious texts.
“Very few surviving early medieval manuscripts contain evidence of having been created, owned or used by a woman.
“Nunneries closed women off from the world, yet paradoxically gave them the possibility of independent intellectual lives."

Jolie! I sing of the beauty I see in you,
Of the glory in you, waiting to be evoked,
Of the joy I would have of you,
If only you could love me.
If only you could love me.
Jolie! I sing of your elegance to come,
Of the envy of those who once knew you,
Who will take you for an Abbess,
If only I may love you.
If only I may love you.

I had a direct encounter with Venerable Dhammananda Bhikkhuni last year, that came rushing back (in an unexpected way) with full force today -- catching me completely by surprise -- bringing me to laughter at first, and then to tears.
I am still sitting with tears streaming down my cheeks as I write this. I don’t have much to say about it -- other than, THANK YOU.
I’m sure the teaching and understanding will continue to unfold. More to come, maybe through words, or maybe simply through being.

Venerable Dhammananda Bhikkhuni is Thailand’s first fully ordained Theravada Buddhist female monk and abbess. She is the spiritual leader of Songdhammakalyani Temple located about an hour southwest of Bangkok. Venerable Dhammananda offers a unique perspective as both an ordained Theravada Bhikkhuni and a feminist, and has been internationally recognized for her work on women in Buddhism and environmental conservation. Prior to her ordination, she was an Associate Professor of Buddhist Studies at Thammasat University for 27 years. She is a tireless crusader for women’s ordination and has traveled the world speaking to audiences about the need to restore the “fourth pillar” of Buddhism.

There are plenty of books available on the great German Benedictine mystic Hildegard of Bingen, but I don’t know that I’ve ever seen one as beautiful as this one, written and designed by my colleague and friend Barbara Levan Fisher (fun fact: Barbara created the cover design for my book “Answering the Contemplative Call”). Considering how important art and beauty were to the mystic abbess, this book really is a wonderful tribute to her ongoing relevance. Cue up your copy of Gothic Voices’ “A Feather on the Breath of God” and give yourself the treat of exploring this wonderful new treasury of everyone’s favorite 12th-century visionary! #mysticism #books #mystical #Christianity #ChristianMysticism #spirituality #Benedictine #abbess #Hildegard #HildegardofBingen #prayer @levanfisher (at Clarkston, Georgia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CgiZhibOGrN/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I found another reference from Pinterest and this pose made me want to draw up this depressing number. So Miriam, or Abbess Harris, has failed to kill Sorina Dinescu, during their 1-on-1 battle, which has ultimately cost her her life. But before she passed away, Anderson was fortunate enough to find her and spend his last moment with her in his arms. By then, Miriam asked Anderson to promise her to do whatever it takes to kill Alucard and those who choose to follow him. Which is what I would like to think is what made Anderson want to turn into a monster in order to defeat Alucard. It was a plan that he had for a last resort kind of deal, but now that he had given Miriam his word and was in grief of her death, it was a done deal.
Dialogue:
“Promise me. Promise me that you’ll get rid of the evil that walks this earth, along with those who choose to walk in his shadow. That you’ll do whatever it takes to fix what God had intended for them. Promise me Alex.”

Today we also celebrate the Venerable Hilda, Abbess of Whitby. Saint Hilda was the grandniece of Saint Edwin, King of Northumbria. Turned from the pagan faith by Saint Paulinus, she was baptised as one of the first Christians of the British Isles. At 33 years old, she was tonsured a nun and under the guidance of Saint Aidan, Bishop of Lindisfarne, Hilda founded many monastic communities, the most famous one being Whitby, of which she became abbess. From the beginning of her monastic life, the Bishop Aidan saw her already-apparent spiritual gifts which flourished as time passed. Within 30 years, she had become a beacon of Christian life throughout the British Isles. In her monastery at Whitby, Hilda was not only the spiritual head of the female monastics, but also the male ones. It is said that this monastery was a “training ground” for both priests and bishops who went on to spread the Gospel throughout the Isles. Christianity, however, had already been spread to the Celtic peoples well over 100 years prior to entering Britain. Because of this, the Celtic and Roman traditions differed (although not in doctrine), especially when calculating the date of Pascha. Saint Hilda convened the Synod of Whitby to address this issue, and it was resolved that the Roman calculation would be used. (It must be noted that at this time, Rome was under the unified Orthodox and Apostolic Church.) Peasants, noblemen, kings, and even bishops would come to Abbess Hilda to seek her spiritual counsel, as she was considered the mother of Christianity in Britain. After many years of intense spiritual labour, she fell asleep in the Lord in 680 AD, and at the time of her repose, the Holy Begu was granted to see a vision of the Holy Abbess Hilda’s soul being carried up to heaven by angels. May she intercede for us all + #saint #hilda #whitby #abbess #nun #monastic #monastery #britain #britishisles #isle #monk #nuns #church #aidan #bishop #lindisfarne #edwin #king #northumbria #mother #holy #spiritual #faith #prayer #love #angel #angels #soul #orthodox (at Whitby) https://www.instagram.com/p/ClCWqUBr3_n/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
