hey guys, I could use your help with something! Sue is a Black disabled mother, migrant, and PhD student at Newcastle University who urgently needs solidarity. Newcastle University is reporting her to the Home Office in retaliation for her complaint about her abusive supervisor, in full awareness of her Stage 5 kidney disease. this is a life-and-death situation.
here's how you can help:
retweet Unis Resist Border Control's tweet about Sue's abusive situation at the University of Newcastle
sign the open letter to Newcastle University by 22 May
pass a motion with your UCU branch (template here)
donate to help Sue find a kidney donor, apply to Leave to Remain, pay solicitor fees, and cover living costs
Sue's story from the #WeAreAllSue toolkit:
In 2022, Sue Agazie, high-achieving in her field, was promised financial support for her tuition fees through scholarships and paid opportunities and enrolled into the PhD programme at Newcastle University Business School with this understanding. When Sue arrived in the UK in 2023, however, she learned that all of this financial promise was a lie; the scholarships that she had been promised never materialised. Instead, she has gone into horrific debt and is having trouble surviving.
For almost a year, Sue sought financial support for herself and her family, including grants and opportunities that would burnish the reputation of her supervisor and university as a whole. However, in that year, her supervisor not only prevented her from applying to scholarships and paid opportunities, but further controlled her research and day-to-day quality of life, with a high-level of surveillance, inappropriate supervisory practices, and escalating harassment of both her and her family.
These practices include this supervisor repeatedly preventing Sue from taking part in important professional development activities, such as research presentations, within the Business School. He also isolated her from her senior colleagues, forbidding her from attending particular activities they were facilitating, or spreading malicious rumours about them. Further, the primary supervisor repeatedly ignored Sue's pleas for support on funding applications and other opportunities that would alleviate the precarious financial situation into which she had been placed, telling her to “stop sending me links to scholarships”.
This behaviour would culminate in the primary supervisor verbally abusing Sue a number of times, and maligning Sue’s husband, alleging that he has been too lazy to financially support her. These inappropriate supervisory practices belie Newcastle University’s commitment to gender equality under the Athena SWAN Charter, for which it holds a Silver award, and for which the Business School holds a Bronze award.
An environment of terror and retaliation
This environment of surveillance, harassment, and terror has grossly impacted the health of Sue as well as that of her spouse and children. In particular, her kidney condition escalated to stage 5 kidney disease, a severe and terminal illness that causes disablement and time-sensitive, highly-delicate medical needs, during this ordeal. The National Kidney Foundation in the United States indicates that “stress and uncontrolled reactions to stress” can “lead to kidney damage.” These compounding issues have also understandably affected Sue's studies, although she has bravely persisted in her research, meeting important deadlines.
Sue raised these issues using relevant avenues of informal complaint, including her supervisory teams and student support services; there are multiple complaints that have been raised in this department. However, she did not receive sufficient support. Further, her severe health issues were not treated with the urgency and importance that they deserved. In October and November 2023, Sue's supervisor accused her of allegedly plagiarising his work in what Sue sees as a malicious act of retaliation and victimisation over her informal complaint, and an attempt to sabotage her reputation not just at Newcastle University, but to prestigious global networks. Following all of this mistreatment, Sue filed a formal complaint against her supervisor in February 2024.
Newcastle University is closing ranks
The university came back to Sue on 5 March 2024 with its response, alleging that she had fabricated the complaint against her supervisor in retaliation for his accusations of research misconduct against her, painting this vulnerable, disabled African student as a malicious liar. The supervisor even denies the relevance of her terminal illness and implicates her young child's behaviour in his response, while maintaining that her terminal illness "has nothing to do with her studies or work pressure here". Sue maintains: “During the time that I was supervised by the primary PhD supervisor, he neither kept in regular communication about my disability nor did he signpost me to relevant services within and outside of Newcastle University that could help me. It is dangerous for the primary supervisor to maintain that my disability would not have affected my studies. His comments show a gross level of disability discrimination that does not befit the reputation that Newcastle University seeks to cultivate as an inclusive place.”
Now, the university is claiming that Sue is not "engaging" sufficiently with the programme, and is threatening to report her to the Home Office, despite a written promise in January 2024 that her status would be unaffected due to the ongoing complaint process, and full knowledge of her terminal stage 5 kidney failure. Adding more insult to injury, Newcastle University Accommodation Service has been hounding Sue for rent arrears, even though they know she is critically ill and in a complaint with the university, surviving with the support of Food & Solidarity. Sue has pleaded with the university’s Accommodation Service for a rent freeze, indicating her urgent health complications and her complaint underway with the university. In all correspondences, the Accommodation Service has ignored Sue’s pleas for clemency. There is real fear that the Accommodation Service will evict Sue, her husband and their child. This will, no doubt, cause real precarity to Sue’s already fragile health condition.
We are appalled that the Newcastle University Business School is utilising obvious misogynoirist tropes to close ranks around a disabled Black migrant student who has been treated horribly, and weaponising her precarious migrant status against her as she attempts to seek justice. We are also aware that Sue is not the only student in this situation and that there have been other complaints in this department. It is a stark illustration of the pernicious institutional racism at Russell Group universities that a disabled Black migrant woman with caring responsibilities has been treated this way not only by a supervisor, but by the institution, as well as the abject way these universities instrumentalise migrant students from the Global South as sources of income that they can afterwards dispose of.
Sue maintains that this ordeal has not diminished her resolve to complete her PhD studies at Newcastle University Business School. She says, “I want to finish my PhD research. But for that to happen, Newcastle University must provide the necessary support for a disabled student in a non-abusive environment. I hope that the university listens to me and we can come to a resolution on this matter soon.”

Tuesday's federal budget laid the groundwork for a national disability benefit but the funding falls well short of what advocates were seeking. The government passed legislation last year, Bill C-22, to introduce the national benefit, which is meant to lift people out of poverty by topping up provincial support funding. The budget has allocated $6.1 billion over six years toward the new disability benefit, with payments set to begin rolling out in July of next year. The maximum benefit for low-income Canadians with disabilities would be $200 per month, the budget says. But advocates say the budget commitment doesn't cover enough Canadians and won't lift those it does cover out of poverty. Rabia Khedr, national director of the advocacy group Disability Without Poverty, said she was "disappointed" for all those who have been waiting since C-22 passed in June. "I'm heartbroken for the people that were waiting with hope," she said. Khedr estimates that roughly 1.6 million Canadians with disabilities are living below the poverty line. But Tuesday's budget says only 600,000 would be eligible for the new national benefit.

Neurotypicals seem to never realize that playing along when someone initiates an interaction with you is orders of magnitude easier than initiating an interaction. And it's not just because of the typical reasons like "fear of rejection" or "fear of embarrassment".
You have no social life and you want to get invited places. Someone invites you somewhere. That's easy (well, in comparison, because it may still be difficult for other reasons). All you have to do then is just play along.
But if you're initiating the interactions, there are many more calculations that have to be done. You have to figure out what to say to them. You have to figure out in what situations it's okay to approach them. You have to figure out how to read signs of interest. You have to figure out how often to approach them, because too little is disinterested and too much is clingy. And even if you do everything right, you probably still won't be invited anywhere because they may like you enough to interact with you if they happen to be near you but not enough to invite you anywhere.
And when you try to open up about struggling to socialize, you're met with "that's not true, you got invited to this one place this one time, you're just being negative".

Seeing a rich white privileged billionaire use asylums as a fucking aesthetic in their music video. And writing lyrics about being "raised in an asylum" yet they were raised on fucking Christmas tree farm with everything given to them on a silver fucking platter. It might all be my villain origin story.
I'm going to become the "insane" person they warned you about.

Hey could some of my followers do me a huge favour and report this TikTok? It is specifically made targeting me and my server and spreading lies and generally just being. Horrendous. The owner of the account, Aspen, got banned from my server not for “saying hi” but for being who they are and encouraging what they do. As you can see in this ban log and ticket, we banned them for allowing our blacklist to be posted in their server and made fun of. all of the blacklist is either common triggers or staff specific ones, and they proceeded to make fun of not only my own but many of my friends triggers. Frankly if they just DMd me and asked why it was a trigger I’d be happy to traumadump since they apparently wanna hear about it so bad but… alas. They decided to just be a dick instead.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“ I actually do not” my ass. Here’s them making fun of it!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They also call us a Syscord. We aren’t even a system discord. We just happen to HAVE a lot of systems. First and foremost our server is a fan server for my content, that is all.
They also have done some other horrendous behaviour like say the boycotts are bullshit and just blatantly being shitty about psychotic triggers
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Overall, they just fucking suck! They do all of this under the guise of being “pro recovery” while actively making fun of peoples triggers. Exposure therapy is meant to be done with a therapist, and spoilering shit in our own discord is not “anti recovery”.
Overall aspen is a fucking garbage person and I think you should avoid them and their content but that’s not the point of the post. If possible I’d like you to just report their TikTok [here] and otherwise not engage with them lest you also be a target.

The moment you start throwing around a slur as a genuine insult you are no longer reclaiming it. Reclaiming a word involves referring to yourself with it in a positive manner, using it to spread community and trying to remove the feelings of shame around it. If you are using it as an insult you are not fucking reclaiming it, you are just using a slur.

i just gotta have my weekly “i am frustrated w employed people” moment. because i just feel so isolated in every conversation, i feel envious of their income and ability to live an independent life and buy things. if thats u I truly do need you to recognize and be conscientious of the fact that even though there is much wrong with the environment and expectations of employment, still that it is a privilege to be able to participate in it, because it means you at least have that base level of worth to society so that you can participate in it as designed. ppl like me cannot.

Because of the stigma attached to being a narcissist, psychopath, or sociopath, many of them avoid being diagnosed or never tell anyone about it.
Usually, the only time anyone ever gets diagnosed is after they committed a heinous crime.
This only leads to more stigma.

Weve gotta choose a social issue in business and figure out a way for technology to solve it
Im doing ableism (specifically towards people with mental disorders)
I cant figure out how to solve it with technology, any of the root causes. the ones that ive thought of (as in for root causes) are;
inadequate education/awareness
lack of accomodations (like mental health days)
demonisation of certain ones (like BPD, DID, NPD)
harmful stereotypes
use of terminology like 'narcs' about self entitled people, delulu about people who believe not true stuff (aka disillusioned), 'the intrusive thoughts won' in regards to impulsive thoughts (let me know more if you can think of them)
If anyone can think of more things that can cause ableism, please let me know

obsessed with the kid who thinks furries are more looked down upon than disabled people this is absurd
I agree that people hate on furries a lot and it’s a massive signifier of queerphobia also but the way they just randomly decided Deformed People were gonna be their Bad Guys for the post is hilariously detached to me.
People constantly forget that fascists target us first and authoritarians and capitalists don’t want us to exist so I’m not surprised they also apparently don’t think we’re bullied either 🤷🏼‍♂️ like believe whatever helps you sleep at night I guess but don’t just lie about it blatantly and not expect anyone to disagree with you

Oh yeah make sure neglected people get love until that neglected person is a fucking narcissist. Cause all narcissists are bad. Everything I do is intentionally manipulative or maybe they'll say I'm not actually a narcissist and are just confused or supporting them cause I've been made to feel guilty. I've been on both sides. People will believe I'm a narcissist and so therefore I'm abusive or people will not believe I'm a narcissist cause I'm too nice and just getting caught up in narcissists manipulating me to support them.
I hate the idea that my self image is not by my choice. I will always be what OTHERS perceive me as. I have always been that and it will continue to be that. People will either see someone that can't do any wrong or someone that can only do wrong. Like stfu I am a person! I can do good and bad! I have a past of being toxic and harmful esp as a teenager cause I was a fucking mentally fucked teen still in an abusive situation.
I just. I dunno. Im waiting on food so I'm very like just ranty about everything and anything. But like. Stfu. Stfu stfu stfu stfu stfu. If anyone else is needy and needs attention or reassurance then it's fine. But I have had it demonized since my fucking childhood and had my fucking meltdowns demonized as being intentionally manipulative!!! I WAS A FIVE YEAR OLD AUTISTIC CHILD STFU!!!!!
And people praising empathy as being good piss me off. Cause you know what else can also have hypoempathy? AUTISM. Low empathy is not just an "evil" personality disorder thing. Anyone can be anywhere on the scale of empathy. And it doesn't fucking matter. And anyone can be capable of good or bad. It has literally nothing to do with narcissism or any disorder.
Like wtf are anti narcissists gonna fucking do when they realize theyve done harm??? Cause you know what being someone believing in narc abuse did to me?! It made me believe that i was justified as a victim of narcissists so therefore I couldn't be wrong in my trauma responses.
Yeah. Accepting im a narcissist did way more for helping my relationships by allowing me to understand and communicate my needs than believing in narc abuse and calling my parents narcissists ever fucking did. Wtf are they gonna do when they're told about the harm they've done??? Not even related to narc abuse. I would have horrible episodes and defended myself cause I wasn't like my abusive "narcissistic" parents. And all it did was lead to more fights and more episodes and my friend couldn't help cause they were dealing with trauma responses too (people pleasing, believing it was okay what I did or that she deserved it even when I told her not to say or believe that, it's a very lengthy explanation required thing.)
Anyone and everyone is capable of good and bad and is capable of harming others. Whether it's full on abuse, even worse things, or just being insensitive and thoughtless. Focusing so much on the big bad narcissists will only continue to focus on this "us vs them" mentality that completely negates any sort of nuance and ignores the fact that harmful people, abusers, and even the worst of humanity is ALLOWED by society. It isn't a prevalence of narcissists, it is fucking bigotry. And it is everywhere. And it allows abuse to be normalized.
Big list of things I been thinking on. Fuck fuck fuck. I'm already fucking stressed and my parents won't stfu so I can think and type. Disorganized speech, semiverbal, can't thinky think.

You spend my entire childhood regularly punishing me for accidentally saying something wrong. Then, when I struggle to make friends, you say "talk to people".

Hate the underlying abelism that fans have towards Scar. As a physically disabled fan it's just like. Ew. I started seeing more hate for secret life after Scar won. And he gets death threats a lot (same goes with the misogyny but that talked about A LOT). Grian has to remind everyone everytime (even in hermitcraft. Yeah. The PG kid-aimed sever) not to send death threats to the other side. And that side is often Scar.
Also, ppl just straight up refuse to learn how to draw mobility aids (especially Wheelchairs). Apparently its not 'realistic enough' to be in the life series. But a guy about 2'0 with parrot wings is. Okay.

Everyone who's like, "Yeah! Stop calling people [r-slur]! Use [other term referring to some form of disability] instead!" is completely missing the fucking point.
No form of disability should be used as an insult, period.
