Cass: Thinks he hates kids but he’s actually just afraid of them. In the future, he becomes friends with his boss at the restaurant he works at and ends up babysitting her kids where he learns that… actually not only does he really like kids, he’s really good with kids. Even further in the future, he ends up working in early education. He’s particularly good with (and secretly prefers working with) the “bad kids”. Josiah and him end up with a lot of drawings on their fridge.

Josiah: Great with kids. Really likes them. He used to babysit his neighbours’ kids when he was growing up, and had younger cousins as well. He got good at braiding hair and playing tea-parties.

Lou: Professes to hate kids. Actually just hated being a kid and has avoided children ever since. She’d get on with kids one on one or in small groups, and overall prefers teenagers. Kids like her because she tends to treat them like tiny adults and doesn't lie to them. Great aunty material. I think her and Mal end up fostering in the future and probably adopt an older kid. I doubt they’d raise a kid from baby

Mal: Loves kids! Is actively a paediatric nurse. If there are children at an event he is at, he is actively conspiring with them to cause mischief. Also see above

Christopher: Loves kids! Has three godchildren, two of whom are now grown, who he spoils endlessly and cherishes very much. He never wanted children of his own and doesn’t regret that decision but he does wish now and then that he had grandchildren to spoil.

Tucker: Hates kids. They’re loud, they’re annoying, they’re going to spill something on his shoes. No thank you. Only good when they can be of use.

You sure can! I’ve nodded at it a few times in various pieces but never said outright I don’t think. Also want to apologise, lol. This was never meant to be as drawn out a mystery as it became. I have drafts of several pieces explaining things that started like… two years ago that I could never quite wrangle into line. (Edit: I checked and been it’s three years?! time is fake and made of jelly)

Chook is what Cass calls his brother, Henri. He also lives at Bergen Estate. He also has powers, although different from Cassius’, a portion of which (a form of memory reading) is activated through touch. When Cass and Henri were young they made a deal – ‘no names, no touching’ – which was more or less a deal of mutually assured destruction. Henri wouldn’t invade Cass’ privacy (or hurt him), and Cass wouldn’t make Henri do things.

When Christopher threatens Cass with seeing Chook he’s threatening either: doing whatever he’s about to do to Cass to Chook instead, or doing what he’s about to do in front of Chook. Occasionally, the threat is that he’ll take Cass down to where Chook is and leaving him there.
