i. remember the time - michael jackson
PERCY HAS ALWAYS liked afternoons: sitting on the green couch in his apartment, the smell of his favorite blue cookies wafting through the air, and the constantly running episodes of gilmore girls on the tv — that you had convinced him to give a try — and sometimes the addition of grover, who was prone to start passionate tirades on climate change.
though after summer camp, his relatively quiet afternoons now included at least two mentions of “seaweed brain” and two of “wise girl”.
percy’s trying to stay focused on rory freaking out over thanking dean for something (annabeth is almost laser-focused), but the doorbell rang a while ago, and you still haven’t returned.
“annabeth,” he whispered, to no avail — he guessed dean really had that effect on people. he tried again, waving a hand in front of her face. she blinked twice before being lifted from the spell of gilmore girls.
“what?” annabeth asked.
“who’s at the door?”
annabeth’s eyebrows rose. she turned around, looking past where you were still holding the door open, one hand animatedly gesticulating, the other still on the doorknob.
“that’s my brother,” annabeth said, turning back to look at percy.
but percy isn’t paying attention to her right now, instead, he’s focusing on the bits of conversation audible between you and this stranger, who’s smiling very peculiarly down at you.
“— no way, me too,” the stranger is saying, grinning.
you’re saying, “deadass? prove it —”
“— are you always so skeptical —”
percy gets up off the couch, annabeth beside him, striding over to you and the stranger, who, for a reason he can’t quite put a finger on, seems weird.
“hi,” percy says, looking at you, pointedly ignoring the stranger. you and the stranger seem to freeze, your hand halting mid-tuck of your hair behind your ear, something percy has only seen you do around one of your ex-boyfriends.
“hi,” annabeth says, looking at the stranger, who smiles in response. again, weird.
“ready to go?” the stranger asks, “or are you going to take over their spare bedroom?”
“luke, you’re not funny,” annabeth grumbles, but she doesn’t look that put out by luke’s teasing percy notes.
you’re smiling, but you’re not looking at annabeth. you’re looking at luke, your one hand still on the doorknob. interesting.
“you’ve got your yankees cap?” you confirm as annabeth laces up her converse, as you and luke are engaged in a tiny conversation of your own. percy wordlessly hands the worn-out cap to annabeth once she’s finished, saying his goodbye.
once annabeth and her brother are long gone and you’re no longer leaning against the door, you’re still smiling widely, and percy wonders why.
ii. shoop - salt n pepa
gilmore girls is on again, and luke is here to pick up annabeth. again. but for whatever reason, annabeth still hasn’t left, and you and luke are sitting in the kitchen, alone, conversing loudly.
annabeth isn’t as hyper-focused on dean and rory’s argument as percy had thought she would be a week ago — he assumed that dean’s appeal died the minute he got mad in that banged-up car. annabeth is saying something about architecture, eyes shining, though he’s not sure which one she’s talking about, hagia sophia or st. basil’s cathedral. your loud laugh seems to ring from the kitchen every minute or so, and well since you’ve begun babysitting him, he can’t say the sound is unfamiliar, but the frequency is suspicious. he doesn’t trust luke.
“annabeth,” he says, when she’s stopped talking.
“percy,” she responds in the same tone, her smile bright.
“how long has your brother been in the kitchen for?” he says, trying to sound nonchalant, but missing the mark horrifically.
annabeth looks at the watch on her wrist, “woah —”
“what does woah mean?” percy knows he’s being impolite, and his mom taught him to never interrupt people, but he can’t help it at this moment.
“i was just getting to that, seaweed brain,” annabeth rolled her eyes good-naturedly, “we were supposed to leave an hour and half ago.”
this was bizarre. “no offense, but what does my babysitter and your brother even have in common to be talking nonstop for an hour and half?”
“no idea,” annabeth says, thoughtfully. “is she in a band? luke’s in a band.”
“no,” percy says, but he thinks he remembers your last boyfriend being in a band. “is your brother a senior?”
“yeah — does she do boxing? luke does.”
“i actually don’t know,” percy pauses, “i think we should see for ourselves,” he stands up.
“wait,” annabeth says, “they might go quiet if they see we’re around. let’s just turn off the tv and eavesdrop.”
percy grins, annabeth was such a genius, “you got it, wise girl.”
they’re both so silent, he wonders if you’ll notice, but with the way you’re laughing again, borderline giggling, actually — which is odd — as you say, “shut up, you know what i meant,” he doesn’t think you’ll realize.
“erm, actually i don’t,” luke says, nasally (in what percy hopes is mockery).
percy looks at annabeth, who rolls her eyes at him and mouths, ‘he’s being ironic’. percy stares at the patterns in the carpet, and annabeth stares at the picture of percy and his mom hung on the wall, as they continue to strain their ears — which isn’t hard because of how noisy you and luke are together.
“you’re so insufferable.”
“and you’re the one who invited me in, so.”
“i was being nice,” you sound like you’re protesting, but percy and annabeth note the amusement in your voice with another shared glance.
“you? nice? let’s be forreal.”
“i’m literally not even mean.”
“you literally are.”
annabeth peeks at him, and percy thinks he’s had enough of listening to this conversation, which is quickly becoming weird. and mushy. he can practically see how you’re looking at luke, and how he’s looking at you, which is not at all something he wants to imagine.
he nods at annabeth, and they both try to make their footsteps as loud as possible when they start approaching the kitchen, just in case.
he’s grateful to every higher being out there when he and annabeth find you and luke in the kitchen simply sitting next to each other, no funny business involved.
iii. doo wop (that thing) - ms. lauryn hill
you’re on the phone, giggling. annabeth is over again, and there’s no luke in sight, but percy suspects he’s on the other end of the line.
percy sighs and turns to annabeth, who always seems to know what to do because this little situation has gotten unbelievably out of hand.
“is that your brother on the phone?”
annabeth’s concentration on the teetering jenga tower on the coffee table lingers, doo wop (that thing) playing on the tv in the background, “yeah, i think so.”
“how do you know?” percy asks, watching annabeth carefully choose a jenga block to remove.
“they like each other,” annabeth says, looking at him, as if it’s as obvious as grass being green.
“no, they don’t,” percy pauses for a minute when annabeth raises her eyebrows at him. “how do you know?”
“luke’s always calling her at home,” annabeth said, “and he made her a mixtape.”
“that doesn’t mean they like each other, that just means he likes her,” percy points out, crossing his arms.
they hear you giggle in the kitchen again. annabeth looks at him as if that proves her point.
annabeth blinks, her face lighting up, “oh my god, percy, we should set them up.”
percy stares at her. he can’t deny that for as long as he’s known annabeth, she’s seldom been wrong, but he doesn’t think this is the best idea. but, percy trusts annabeth, so he agrees.
iv. this is how we do it - montell jordan
percy’s spying on you. well, he doesn’t consider it to be spying exactly, he’s just making sure nothing happens to you because despite annabeth’s constant defense of her brother, percy still doesn’t trust luke. percy’s always thought of you more than just his babysitter, after all the attempts at making blue hot chocolate and the comforting after nightmares, you’ve turned into his sister.
he’s at annabeth’s place now, and both of them decided to put their — what annabeth swears is fool-proof — plan into action. step number one: getting luke to invite you inside when you come to pick him up (which was so unbelievably easy, considering how luke has perpetual heart eyes when you’re around).
currently, you’re in the kitchen with luke (the two of you are always congregating in kitchens for some reason), and annabeth decided that she and percy absolutely had to keep an eye on the two of you.
you’re gasping, “luke castellan, you are such a liar.”
luke is laughing, “no i’m not.” his cheeks are red.
you’ve seemed to notice this, and percy can see your gaze soften as you look at luke, but that doesn’t stop you from making your point, “no, oh my god, you call me the mean one but here you are, talking shit about your rivals, just because they’re better?”
percy has seen you argue with your ex-boyfriends, but not like this — not bright-eyed, and smiling, and none of them have been able to just flow the way you seem to with luke. this is it, he thinks, annabeth was completely and utterly right (as she is 90% of the time).
“you take that back right now, those motley crue knockoffs aren’t better than us,” luke says, sounding kind of angry, but percy can see his smile.
“you’re totally bugging,” you say, “what’s wrong with motley crue?”
luke looks scandalized, and almost as if he’s pleading, he says, “please tell me you’ve at least listened to guns n roses,” pushing his hands together in a namaste position.
“i don’t live under a rock, castellan,” you rolled your eyes at him, pushing his hands down. annabeth shares a look with percy.
“i mean, you never know,” he says, and you scoff, shoving him.
percy raises his eyebrows at annabeth, and she seems to know exactly what he’s thinking — time to put step two into action: set up a going-out idea.
percy and annabeth pretend to walk closer to the kitchen, to give the two of you time to spring apart, because you and luke weren’t a very pg distance right now — maybe pg-thirteen, but percy wasn’t supposed to be watching those, so.
annabeth jerks a finger at percy, as you and luke looked up at their arrival, addressing luke, “percy doesn’t believe that your band actually plays in public.”
percy’s head whips toward annabeth, trying not to glare at her, because the look on luke’s face right now was not at all amusing, but at least you were smiling, so you’d definitely stop luke from killing him.
“yeah, luke,” you say, smirking, “where do you guys even play?”
luke frowns, “the usual but we’re playing at the fair next week if you’re so interested.” the last part is aimed at percy, but their plan is going well so far, so percy doesn’t think he’ll have to sleep with one eye open tonight.
“when?” you ask, interested.
percy watches luke turn to you, surprised. “saturday — why, you wanna come?”
“yeah,” you admit easily.
percy looks at annabeth, who’s smiling and percy can’t help but feel proud of their idea.
“really? we don’t go on until like seven though.”
“yeah, someone has to be there to cheer for you so you don’t feel too bad when no one else does,” you grin.
luke turns to you, masking his smile with a fake air of irritation, “gee, thanks.”
“what are friends for?”
percy shares a disappointed glance with annabeth who begins to shake her head, as luke’s smile freezes in place, and you suddenly look extremely remorseful.
time to come up with a new plan.

Why I think the Madrigals believed Bruno to be dead
The adults only speak about him in past tense. "Bruno didn't care about this family". As far as she knows, if he's still alive and not back it means he actively still doesn't care about the family, so why not say that? Félix also speaks in past tense ("You better figure it out, because it was coming for you"). Julieta's "My brother Bruno lost his way in this family" makes sense regardless of whether she thought he'd died or not, but to me it does sound very final. Pepa cannot even hear his name without thundering. With the amount of love she has for him, the thought that he might have made himself a happier life in a town that does not shun him should bring her at least a bit of comfort, but she's inconsolable even after so much time. I'm sure there are more examples of this and if I can think of them, I'll add them in the replies.
The door going dark. Now, we know it stopped being lit because he had decided not to use his power anymore, but it makes far more sense for it to be because he couldn't use his power anymore (because he was dead). Casita, much like Bruno, can tell the future, so she knew he was going to use it again, the vow did not really count for anything. Are you telling me that anytime a family member leaves their room and considers not using their power for a while their door goes black?? It makes a lot more sense for the family to have thought he had died. The same applies for Casita not being able to help inside the room: it sounds like a metaphor for the Madrigals not being able to help Bruno anymore.
The deleted scene. In the "Chores!" deleted scene, Félix talks about a fight Bruno had with the family (possibly even the moment he left the family?). In this scene, Bruno displays actual suicidal tendencies ("I wish I was dead!"), and, when he leaves, his room starts rotting and decaying. This scene was removed in the final movie, because it is clearly too dark for kids, but we have no reason to believe that it is not still canon in the universe, as we can see that his room is actually decaying and falling apart. If a family member tells you they wish they were dead and then disappear leaving no trace, it is not a crazy jump to think they are not still alive, especially considering the next point.
Bruno left behind most of his belongings. We do not know how much stuff Bruno had in the first place, but when he leaves his room after the vision, we do not see him holding a bag (or anything really) and even if it's there, it is definitely not a bag big enough to sustain someone leaving their home for good. The stuff he has in the walls was likely gathered long after his family had stopped searching for him. He also has no money and the social skills of a rat, where was he even going??
The room falling apart. Not entirely sure about this, but I think the characters' rooms reflect somewhat the emotional state of their owners (Isabela's room in What Else Can I Do + if I'm not mistaken, Camilo's room is supposed to change colour based on his mood like a chameleon). This is further demonstrated by the stairs, which had been growing for years before Bruno actually left. This is a bit of a stretch, but I think the family could have seen one of two alarm bells in the decaying room: a) Bruno's room was decaying like him (kinda gruesome, but it makes some semblance of sense); b) it did not change at all for 10 years. I don't think rooms change only when their owner is in them, so Bruno's emotional state supposedly not changing for so long is alarming. But again, this point is the one that convinces me the least.
Dolores. Dolores mentions hearing Bruno in the walls three (3) times, in the movie alone: in We Don't Talk About Bruno, at breakfast ("and the rats talking in the walls") and in All of You. It's been ten years and she still mentions him constantly, so she's probably been talking about it since the very beginning, but no one believed her. So, a child keeps hearing their relative who disappeared without a trace in their family home, without seeing him and with everyone saying it wasn't possible. Logical conclusion? It's a ghost.
The family's reactions to him returning. Alma is the most striking. It takes quite a long time for her shocked face to wear off. Julieta is equally shocked as well, like she'd never expected to see him ever again. It could also be she just didn't expect him to come back. Pepa looks relieved, like she'd been on edge for 10 years and can finally know peace. Why would that be? The fact that he's back does not mean they are going to rekindle their relationship, but it does mean that she gets a new chance to show him she loves him, being the first to run to hug him. Her eyebags also show many a sleepless nights tossing and turning, maybe feeling guilty because she hadn't shown him her love enough and she thought she never could again.
Bonus: "The mountains around the Encanto are pretty tall!" In this scene, after Bruno says this sentence, he makes a weird face, like he's already considered how tall the mountains are and he's trying to understand if Mirabel caught onto that.

encanto headcanon collection #30493929
Because she's constantly listening to people, Dolores is fluent in every language spoken in the Encanto. she hasn't told anyone except Mariano this (it's not a secret, just nobody else has asked)
Camilo upstages EVERY QUINCEANERA. doesn't matter HOW nice and unique the dress you find is, doesn't matter if you hide it from him, he WILL show up in a dress that's prettier and more ostentatious. nobody knows if he's pulling them from magazines or making them up or what. he has every gender but mainly his mom yells at him for being rude, says if he's going to be a woman he 'needs to be uglier'
Dolores doesn't get sensory overload in crowds. Her favourite hobby is sitting down listening to 18 peoples drama simultaneously. she gets extremely overwhelmed in quiet rooms when there's no other sounds to focus on except the things she's actually supposed to be listening to
Dolores is extremely face blind and can't ready body language at all, she completely relies on listening to people's bodies to recognise people and their feelings. When she loses her gift it becomes extremely obvious she is Very Autistic (she doesn't mind)
Bruno can magically sense how much time has passed, what time of day it is etc with perfect precision. Again nobody knows this until he loses his gift and reveals he has never in his life learned how to read a clock
Mirabel shuts out her parents a lot and isn't very close to them even though they get on fine. there is NO REASON for this she's just 15. they've literally never done anything wrong she's just like 'idk they don't understand me'
(but because she's not going through any kind of supernatural crisis they think she's doing great. smoothest adolescence ever. nailed it)
(when isabela went through puberty she just RUINED the local ecosystem)
Alma is openly socialist, anti-war, Encanto is a refuge of peace etc etc, so gay couples have gotten married in their Encanto. this headcanon exists simultaneously with 'alma sleeps with women because she's homophobic': Alma can never bring herself to sleep with another man since Pedro but sex with women 'doesn't count' so she HAS absolutely gotten down with several other old women in the village. gay love is real but not for her. rip
Bruno sold ONE emerald vision plate in 1951 and that's the sum of the entire family's money, but nobody understands money so all he uses it for is for allowance for the kids
Bruno is actually very good-natured about being mocked or laughed at. Because most people in the village would treat him with terrified politeness he considers it an upgrade
Bruno is making NO effort to counter the rumours about him at this point, he's too old, local children sneak up to him and ask if it's true he eats brains and he's just deadass like 'wouldn't you like to know'
Dolores has perfect recall with sounds/words but she pretends not to. life is easier that way
Antonio can talk to bugs they mainly just sit around saying things like 'Leaves' and 'it's sunny'. Isabela starts keeping bugs with him. sometimes they just sit down and have Bug Conversations. ('Antonio, I like leaves' 'Leaves')
As an aunt Julieta is incredibly fun, but Pepa is just Another Mom But Stricter. rip.
Bruno is just DOGSHIT at giving presents. they still bring up when he gave Julieta a hammer for Christmas

More resident evil 8 Au! I don't think I will ever run out of things to talk about for this AU!
First I'm glad you like my idea for julieta's mutation and I 100% agree that Miranda was trying to get rid of Alma's voice but she didn't directly go for her voice box she was just kind of hoping that it would be a side effect of the experiment so it didn't happen.
The Dimitrescu family does need to chill. They try their best but given their mutation and what I feel like is an ingrained primal/animalistic instincts they have a very hard time reeling in their emotions and with self-control in general. They've gotten a lot better over the years but it is something they still struggle with.
I just realized that we haven't got the families opinion on the other Lords or their first interaction with them besides the Dimitrescu family. As you know with Alcina and her family things were very tense and it took them a little while to be able to get along with each other but they managed The family doesn't have very high opinion of them because of their diet and their overall attitude but they are grateful for the fact that they took Mirabel in and took care of her when she was young. None of them like Monroe mostly because of the smell and the disgust that they feel being near him but also because of the fact that he is constantly trying to trick them into doing things to help him look better in the eyes of Miranda. All of them were creeped out by Donna at first, most of them still are, but Donna and Isabela built an odd little friendship over their special interest in gardening/plants. None of them like karl because of his abrasiveness and the attitude that he takes with Mirabel Plus the fact that his solution to the Miranda problem is to experiment on people and create these horrible monsters although camilo does like/appreciates the chaos that karl brings to certain things.
I feel like when Ethan is in Mirabel's creepy Casita he could go to different sections of the house and find different things. Like when his in the kitchen which is Julieta's area he could find healing items that would randomly regenerate more and could probably buy cheaper food items from Julieta, for weapons and ammo I'm torn about who he could get that from I feel like Luisa would be a good person to get that from because of how much she wants to protect her family. But I also feel like Pepa and Felix would be a better choice because in this Au they go crazy protective over the family plus I just get that type of vibe from them better than I do Luisa because at the end of the day Luisa is a cinnamon-roll sweetheart and I can't really imagine her hurting anyone or dealing with weapons.
Yes Ethan lives! I don't trust the B.S.A.A especially after seeing how they treat Rose. She literally didn't have a childhood in their care, and they were going to shoot her because she had a very reasonable reaction to what that one guard dude said, plus the fact the guy even felt comfortable to say something like that to her when she's visiting her father's grave is just gross. In my version The Madrigal family goes back to their encanto with Ethan and Rose, it's the place they all love and they all miss it very much, There are a couple villagers that are still alive and remember the family but not that many. Casita is still standing. Nobody lives inside because Casita refuses to allow anybody to live in her pushing away anyone who tries to get inside. When they get to Casita they were all basically pushed inside Casita was so happy to see them again! Casita had added a room for Mirabel while they were gone, the family doesn't know why or when. They make Ethan a house near Casita so he can have his own privacy and raise Rose the way he wants to. They of course help him whenever he needs it and spend a lot of time with him and Rose!
But I've been thinking. By the time Ethan happens Mirabel would be fully grown and would have been fully grown for a while before Ethan/Rose happens (all the Lords/experiments seem to stop aging after they reach adulthood) and with how much Miranda likes to experiment do you think it's possible that in between that time Miranda would try and experiment on Mirabel to create a vessel for Eva? In this Au Mirabel is considered the favorite and Miranda does have an unhealthy obsession with her so I wouldn't put it past her to try it but I don't know I would really like your opinion on that.
Any art you would like to make is always appreciated!
PLEASE DON'T STOP TALKING ABOUT IT BECAUSE I LOVE IT❗❗ Honestly, Resident Evil by far like my favorite Video Game Media, and in the top five of my favorite media of all time 😭😭 like if you want my attention just mention resident evil
ANYWAYYYYY yeah, I think it's cool for Julieta <333 makes me also think that since her hands leak mold and infect the food, if someone did eat it to heal, it would more effectively heal people who had some form of black mold or any mutation like that; an idea, maybe Ethan, if he goes to her kitchen for healing items, he can take food (if she offers it to him), and he can use it to help regenerate or repair stuff; it can’t regenerate whole limbs though, not unless he has them, hence why Ethan is still missing fingers <\3333 And anyone without mold or mutations have to eat more in order to heal properly. Or maybe ut doesn't heal at all. Idk 🌚
The opinions are so real 😭😭 like I can see why they don’t like Karl (and even Camilo probably only barely tolerates him), and Moreau, for obvious reasons is disliked. Like I know bro is a victim, all of them are, but he SO manipulative it’s not even funny, and he’s just trying to make himself look better in the end. Alcina and the daughters…yeah. By far, if they had to choose one for Mirabel to be around, they prefer Donna, like yeah, she’s creepy, and yeah her weird dolls are creepy, but she’s otherwise pretty chill, and Angie is really just a vessel for her to speak through. I like how Donna and Isa bond over gardening, that’s cool <333
ALSO ETHAN IN CASITA 💪💪💪 he finds the house and family creepy at first, but honestly, with how much he’s been through, he gets over it when he realizes that they only want to help him. Him raiding Julieta's kitchen is so funny, and like she doesn’t care 💀 also I think Pepa and Félix fit for weapons; maybe Luisa can still have a role, since she’s still strong, she can and will defend herself, especially against Lycans. If she’s not at Casita, she will roam the villages and knows her way around, so maybe Ethan can go to Luisa when he needs to know where to go next or where to find certain items (not the flasks though)??
AND THE B.S.A.A…I haven’t watched gameplay of the Rose DLC yet (I need to lmao), so I was going off the B.S.A.A in previous games like 3/5/6. I’m glad they went back to the encanto, and I’m glad Casita is still standing and was so excited that the family came back 🦈🦈 The Madriagls pretty regularly check on the Winters. No Mia. We don’t talk about Mia 👹👹
As for Miranda trying that, yeah, I think so too. Even with her, and the family getting older, Miranda still treats her like a child, like her child. Arguably, her obsession gets worse, and it affects her both Mirabel and even her family to some extent. Mirabel wants to be herself and live as herself, but Miranda essentially ends up viewing her as nothing but a vessel for her daughter, and treats her as such. She either treats her as she would Eva, or she would treat her like the experiment Miranda will ultimately try and turn her into. Mirabel fully believes she won’t fail this time. She refuses to listen to Mirabel, much less her family.
Mirabel might even be a little happy Miranda doesn't really like her family, becayse at least that way, her family is safe from Miranda's obsession with getting her daughter back. Miranda tolerates them but you know. She's not above brutality and LITERAL ASSAULT AND MURDER 🌚)
ALSO ART❗❗ so fun to draw. Honestly, I'll draw a lot for this au 🤭🤭 LIKE...its insane. I had this idea, but it doesn't work with the timeline of RE8 and Encanto 😭 Anyway, I want to do a snippet, so if you have any ideas or more lore 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

I've been thinking about this angsty AU for a while know...
But...what if each of the gifted Madrigals snapped before Antonio's ceremony?
Bruno was the first; He cracked under the pressure before Mirabel's ceremony. Honestly, being seen as a bad omen/curse, constantly giving out "bad" or unreadable visions that he knows will be seen as bad, practically being forced to give visions knowing they'll get a bad reaction, and constant migraines/headaches can't be good for someone's mental health.
The order of the other's snapping (I'm going in the order of age)
Pepa (after Antonio's birth) - So stressed out and emotionally unstable that she snapped and caused a rainstorm for a whole week until her body gave out.
Julieta (A year or two after Pepa)- Not sure what to do for her.
Isabela (When Antonio was two/three)- How would being the golden child and put under the perfection pedestal not take a toll on you mentally?
Dolores (a six months after Isa) - It could surround something about hearing way too many sounds/voices at once.
Luisa (four months after Lolo) - Surface pressure got too much to handle.
Camilo (two months after Lu) - Identity crisis, constantly told that YOU aren't needed but the other person is. In other words, feeling like you yourself aren't special at all. Need I say more?
By the time Antonio was four the only Madrigals what were left were Alma, Felix, Agustin, and Mirabel. How do you think you would interpret this au?
Do you think there are any mental hospitals in Encanto? I mean, there is always going to be people with mental issues so there has to be one. But I don't think a normal mental hospital could house such gifted people that could possibly turn into a threat at any given moment.
Idk, this is just an idea and maybe you could be a little more elaborate with it. But honestly, how do you think the gift less Madrigals would react to this happening? (and maybe the villagers?)
(Also, I don't think Antonio would be getting a gift in this au. The candle/Casita is way too scared of the pressure he may be put under and what it might cause. But it's up to you though)
Okay, I have ideas for this!
I’ll call it Separated.
My only note is why would the family separate and just abandon each other? Specifically, the wives leaving their spouses and the literal five-year-old. It makes more sense that they stay together.
Order and why the family finally snapped:
Bruno (1938) - basically the same as said here, but no relation to Mirabel. His reputation started falling after Pepa’s wedding, but by this point, there was nothing to be saved and he had no will to try save it. (The headaches thing isn’t necessary; Julieta can heal him).
Isabela (1944) - in response to being told she was going to start courting and ultimately marry Mariano, but the whole ‘perfect, golden child’ definitely added to the emotions. She didn’t leave the family straightaway, due to her age, but stopped following Abuela’s orders. She also began asking her parents if they could leave.
Pepa (1945) - following Antonio’s birth and her mother’s concerns over whether or not he would be gifted. Alongside her own suppressing of emotions and the equally poor treatment of Dolores. She finally had enough. Félix never officially snapped, just agreed with his wife without hesitation.
Dolores (1945, a few weeks after Pepa) - inspired by her mother, Dolores had also reached her boiling point shortly after and felt confident to express it. Not that it was necessary for her to do as she was obviously going to be leaving with her parents and brothers. But she felt that she should get the chance to for her voice to be heard.
Agustín (1946) - he had recently become aware of the townspeople’s treatment of Luisa and refused to stay a moment longer. If the warm family got out, so can they. To the point he threatened divorce against Julieta, was just going to take Luisa and leave. Julieta never officially snapped, just agreed with her husband; though it was after a few discussions.
Luisa (1949) - though her father’s snap happened earlier and in relation to her, she didn’t feel quite the same; that might be age and insecurity talking. Her treatment did briefly get better because of her father but settled back to old way soon enough and then got even worse. She was done being a mule for the townspeople, for some of the stupidest reasons.
Camilo (1950) - being a teenager is hard enough, a time for finding yourself and your identity. Chucking shapeshifting and those implications on top isn’t easy. He is the most recent member of the Madrigals to snap, though is the only one to suggest a desire to be a normal family. He is still a child - he just wants to play and hang out with the other kids.
Is there a mental health hospital in Encanto? No. It’s a rural town in the middle of nowhere. And it’s 1950. (Not that it matters because Encanto is frozen in the late 1800s). If they were to have anything, it would be a small asylum - which nobody would want anything to do with for very understandable reasons.
Alma, still very warped in her grief, probably doesn’t take this very well at all. With every separation, she just gets worse. The family is breaking all over again - she is losing them, not so different from how she lost Pedro. Maybe even worse because they are still alive, they just want nothing to do with her.
The husbands are in obvious support/defence of their wives and children. They are outsiders to this family, they are a little bit better at picking up on the pressure they are being put under and how it’s not normal. They only want the best for their families and won’t just accept being put through such extremes.
Mirabel is a little ignorant to this all. Being the actual giftless one, she was never hugely included in any of the discussions or such. She doesn’t question too much, she wouldn’t want to overstep. She had accepted her place on the sidelines a little more - even if her family is no longer front and centre (in the way they were before), she just sticks to the background and tends not to get involved with any family drama.
Antonio, who isn’t getting a gift - he doesn’t even live in Casita, so he wouldn’t even know about his door - doesn’t have much thoughts about this. His family’s separation happened so early in his life that he doesn’t known anything beyond this. This is just normal. He’s too young to understand or really be too curious either.

Do you have any headcanons about the characters of Encanto or Coco within the Descendants universe (since Descendants officially incorporates all Disney movies)?
Honestly, I've never seen Coco so I can't really say anything on that.
As for Encanto, I've had multiple, and not all work together, but there are just so many options.
One I like is that Encanto takes place after the merging of fairytales but due to them being isolated they don't realize that it's happened. It isn't until the events of Encanto that Auradon even realizes its there, and they introduce themselves after Casita is rebuilt. But, all of this takes place a handful of years before Descendants. With this HC Bruno was definitely sent to the Isle, much against the wishes of his family, and the Encanto stays pretty isolated. Mirabel takes up the role of diplomat. By the time of the first movie there might be more Madrigals, but they're adults married in and young children.
In general:
Bruno was sent to the island, and because of her reaction Pepa was almost sent to the Isle.
Beast was going to request Juliette to be the diplomat/leader of the Encanto and have regular correspondences with the rest of Auradon, but she refused and the entire family made sure Mirabel was the one who took the role (she was okay with it).
Bruno takes in random children
Bruno might be Carlos' father.
Bruno still gets visions on the Isle, but he hides them from people. Since the magic came from Pedro's sacrifice the dome struggles to block it.
"The Family Madrigal" is a popular song throughout Auradon and it keeps growing as more members come to the family. Its even sung at Auradon Prep to help the kids remember who's who.
"We don't talk about Bruno" sadly becomes a saying again, just not to the Madrigal family.
The family causes trouble for Beast by constantly insisting the Bruno is innocent.
Ben loves visiting the Encanto
These are really the only solid headcanons, as a lot of the time my interpretation of how the Encanto fits in is different depending on what fic I might be writing. I'm still trying to figure out how to fit it into canon.

OKAY he won the poll for “next bighuge honker of a post” so… here’s commander pepa (he/she)!
Tumblr media
his full name is pepiya, but over his long career as a hero he’s become an asura of many nicknames.
Tumblr media
backstory under the cut.
pepa is from a small and tight-knit family by asuran standards, the middle child of five. her mother, leppi, field tests power armor, exosuits, and mech golems in high-intensity environments around mount maelstrom. her father, dopt, was a biological anthropologist but retired young, when pepa was 12.
Tumblr media
dopt wishes he could say he quit science to be a stay-at-home dad, but that wasn’t why. at the height of his career he was at the top of his field, held in very high regard by the arcane council and considered highly ethical. which is why when the asura first encountered a free standing humanoid plant that mimicked intelligent speech, he was offered a coveted spot on the team that would study it. he never would’ve condoned live experimentation on anything he considered a person, but he was so sure that this specimen wasn’t really sapient, just imitating humans, and so curious to know how it was doing this. he went ahead with the planned vivisection, despite the subject’s screaming and pleading in an incredible mimicry of a person’s voice.
the family has been sending a citrus basket to malomedies every month for 30 years. reparations.
after speaking with caithe—and watching her kill several of his coworkers—dopt finally concluded that sylvari were thinking, feeling beings with individual personalities. people. and having realized the evil his krewe had committed, he resigned on the spot. he taught his kids to constantly question the colleges’ & council’s risk assessments and ethical standards. he expressly forbade any of them attending dynamics, where his krewe was trained, and really hoped they’d all go into the arts.
calla and eshna, dopt’s two eldest, pleased him by becoming a council secretary and wearable sculpture artist respectively, but pepa desperately wanted to go to college. she ended up at statics, studying optics. she was competent, and blended in well enough with asuran academic culture, but it took most of her energy to stay mentally present in class and keep up her engineering student persona, instead of daydreaming all day about exploring ruins and making up booby traps in her head.
his real interest has always been archaeology—dopt’s life experiences instilled pepa with both a deep appreciation for the importance of learning about other races, and a deep fear of harming them in the process. so he studied cultures that were dead or missing from central tyria: the forgotten, the stone summit dwarves, and most of all the pre-primordus asura, as records of their lives underground were largely buried or erased to ease the transition to the surface. any time pepa didn’t spend on schoolwork, intramural tennis, or making the expected number of appearances at statics parties, he spent digging around in cave entrances and archives, collecting and obsessing over junk from ages past, and picking up thief skills to get over and under obstacles and stay hidden from destroyers and other subterranean critters.
the VOED was pepa’s final project, combining her official and personal fields of study to create a device that could visually highlight artifacts of interest. after graduation, she kept working on it, developing the core technology into an oversized lens that could scan large areas for old magitechnical signatures.
Tumblr media
while observing the wilds around rata sum through his lens, pepa noticed huge cords of ancient magitech just under the surface—the optic fiber cables for underground ratas, though this wouldn’t be proven until the discovery of rata novus many years later. curious, she searched cave systems and dig sites around the “noodles” until finally striking on an exposed section of cable, and identifying it as the same type of coated glass that statics used for optics, and clearly old asuran make. she was over the moon, and undertook the project of mapping the optic cables and marking points where many intersected. these points, she theorized, would indicate the locations of large underground asura structures—maybe even whole lost cities.
most of pepa’s marked sites were inaccessible due to infestations and cave-ins (natural, caused by destroyers, or caused by asuran explosives to seal the entrances behind them as they fled to the surface). but at the site he’d labeled ‘X,’ his luck changed. as he hiked towards the spot, sweating in the maguuma heat, he felt a sudden cold breeze from below—a shaft, opened by erosion, just barely wide enough for a teenage asura to wriggle down—directly into an intact abandoned rata. pepa explored as far as he safely could alone in stealth, and saw no trace of destroyers or dangerous wildlife. squeezing up to the surface again, he was beside himself with excitement.
getting the funds, resources, and manpower to fully explore “rata x” was no picnic, though. the arcane council was fully against it, for fear of waking destroyers or damaging the structural integrity of the ground near rata sum. statics dismissed it at as a vanity project, claiming everything of value had been brought to the surface or re-invented by the colleges by now. and while the priory was interested, they had to concede that the site was too close to rata sum for them to overstep the council.
it was an obscure, underfunded inquest archaeology krewe who finally signed on, scraping together enough gold to cover equipment costs and volunteering themselves as expedition members. they were shady, skittish, mercenary asura, the kind dopt would have chewed pepa out to no end for associating with, but pepa was impatient, and took the first offer of help.
the rata x-pedition was a disaster. the hows & whys can be their own post, but it was a full party wipe for the inquest krewe, and pepa exited alone, pursued by a hive of destroyer crabs, clutching a single treasure: the rata’s main library data core, containing all the stored knowledge of its ancient inhabitants.
condemned by the arcane council and college of statics for endangering rata sum, reviled by the inquest for taking their gold and getting their researchers killed, pepa ran straight to the priory, and traded the data crystal to gixx for sanctuary and membership there. he was 18 at the time.
for the next 17 years, pepa earned the trust and respect of his fellow scholars. it wasn’t hard to redeem himself for rata x in their eyes. after all, he’d returned with the data crystal, and the dead had all been inquest. pepa struck up a quick friendship with kekt, who was a novice at the same time, got incredibly deft at navigating unstable and heavily trapped ruins, and became a resident expert on the stone summit dwarves, in contrast to kekt’s expertise on the deldrimor. he miniaturized the VOED lens into a handheld device powerful enough to see through seven planes of magic, allowing him to detect artifacts of interest as well as curses and hidden defensive devices with relative ease, as long as they used magic. after he presented his lens to the priory’s top archaeologists, he was rewarded with his own team—the Dangerous Artifacts Recovery Krewe, or D.A.R.K.
Tumblr media
the krewe was exactly what it said on the tin. they extracted powerful artifacts from sites around the shiverpeaks and sometimes farther afield.
caius was an iron legion tank engineer who’d been traded to the priory for a ghost expert. he designed, built, maintained, and drove the krewe’s ATV, a combination charr car/dredge drill and all around sweet ride that let them access high peaks and deep caverns. he doubled as a rocks expert who could determine whether a cave or tomb was urgently likely to collapse on their heads.
pepa’s lens and proclivities for stealth, parkour, and trap disarming would get them through a dangerous structure, while maj, a raven norn, and kekt provided historical context and insight.
renada, a former thief and fence for kryta’s bandits—identified items of interest for the priory to either examine, repatriate to their cultures of origin, or sell off to fund more research.
being trusted with founding D.A.R.K. was a major compliment, but also a test of pepa’s ability to work with other races. while gixx had no problem with pepa’s closeness to kekt, as they had great research partner chemistry, he had noticed that pepa tended to associate almost exclusively with other asura. he mistook this for common elitism, assuming pepa thought of himself as too good to work with bookahs. in reality, it was a different type of asura supremacist thought that was keeping pepa isolated from other scholars—anxiety, taught to him by his father, about abusing his intellect and curiosity to the detriment of other, more fragile races. this worry was hammered out of him in a matter of days by his new human, charr, and particularly norn teammates. but it still lingered when he had to face sylvari. around them pepa was edgy, uncertain, frustratingly polite at the cost of productivity and clear communication. he’d already let dopt down once by collaborating with inquest, and was terrified he’d do it again by causing one of these strange, delicate-looking plant people to get hurt.
in 1324, kekt was given an opportunity to specialize full time in dwarf lore, which he eagerly took. maj tried out for the rank of archon, got the promotion, and moved to the priory’s labs, and riding the tide of change, renada “pulled back” from field work after a um. workplace safety lapse. (got too curious about a cursed stone summit ritual knife she’d flagged for secure storage, took it out to look at, and got three fingers instantaneously stripped to bone. the bitch of it is, it wasn’t even one of the treasures she was thinking about pawning on the side for personal funding! the fingers still work. they’re just animated bone now.)
rather than let D.A.R.K. disband, gixx assigned two hotshot new priory members to the krewe—bonnie shaw, a kid necromancer from ascalon whose raw, unpolished skill let her talk to spirits to learn more about sites and objects, and the newly minted magister sieran. although both of them were much younger than caius or pepa, and despite pepa’s fears about working closely with a sylvari, they were all thick as thieves well before a year passed, and had a major triumph together with the discovery and destruction of the sanguinary blade. the new D.A.R.K. was less balanced and cautious than the old, but with the rookies’ enthusiasm and magical firepower they seemed unstoppable.
and then the risen moved on claw island, and everything went south fast.

Encanto: Madrigal Family Relationship Analysis Part 18 - Bruno and Pepa
Tumblr media
They have one of the most complex relationships among the Madrigals. Growing up together, they (along with Julieta) were tight knit; many pieces of fanart and fanfic assume that Pepa and Bruno were a sort of comedic duo, constantly snarking and play fighting each other (with Julieta being the sane one). Jared Bush commented that Bruno was the former Golden Child and given Alma’s treatment of Pepa as a n adult, I believe she was even more controlling and controlling to her and her powers; as such, while she didn’t bully her brother, a part of her came to be jealous of his status. However, things changes as they got older - Bruno’s powers were unfairly blamed by misfortune and Pepa got a better handle on her powers, making her get less scoldings from their mother. And I believe Jared Bush mentioned how the sisters had a complicated way of being protective over their brother - with that, I think that Pepa didn’t fully grasp the toll and burden his gift, Alma’s high expectations, and the unfair scapegoating hurt him and thought he should learn to control himself. And given Bruno’s reserved nature and his sister’s insensitivity, he never felt comfortable letting his true feelings show. Then, he made  a stupid joke at Pepa’s wedding to try and calm her down but she mistook it and he never corrected it. And as Bruno grew more distant from his family, Pepa (while concerned) didn’t do the best to comfort him. And when he disappeared, she was beyond hurt and uses the whole wedding incident to hide her pain. I think the writers missed a golden opportunity to explore this - someone (probably Mirabel) asks why she cares so much about the person who ruined her life (I know you might be thinking wedding, but I think would Mirabel say life given she’s comparing their troubled relationship to her and Isabela’s). A surprised Pepa look shocked before explaining that Bruno NEVER ruined her life and she didn’t care about the wedding fiasco - she just misses her little bro and is angry and confused as to why he would leave; losing him (or Julieta) would feel like Pepa lost big a part of her soul. And when it’s pointed about how she unfairly “advised” Bruno to control himself, Pepa would have the big realization about how she was dismissive of Bruno’s feelings akin to how Alma is with hers. As such, by the end of the movie, Pepa would make it her goal to men their sibling bond and making him feel wanted and safe. And Bruno loves Pepa dearly and actively encouraged her to express her emotions, caring more about her well-being than how she appeared to Alma or the villagers.

Too big for a hug
Luisa wasn't a child anymore. She didn't need a hug. No matter how hard she wanted it.
Bad things happen bingo: Touch starved
Tumblr media
As a child, Luisa always loved hugs. They always brought comfort. Actually, who doesn't love them? So, when she was just clinging to everyone, especially her dad, bragging for physical contact. After all, it was normal for a kid to ask for a hug. All kids loved physical affection; nobody wouldn't be surprised by a child approaching their parents just to ask to be carried.
But then she was growing up; the need for somebody's arms was less; grownups didn't ask for a hug for no reason, so Luisa keeps working. As the time passed, she was reserving less and less physical contact. It was obvious; she wasn't a child anymore, and she didn't need hugs or kisses on her cheeks. At first, she didn't think that it was a problem, but soon the lack of touches became more and more hurtful for her.
She didn't ask for physical contact, so nobody gave it to her, because Luisa wasn't a kid who sometimes wanted nothing but to hide herself in her mom's arms for hours. But the more time she spent like this, the more she craved it. She wanted to feel warm skin against her own, to feel safe and protected. She was sixteen when she actually realized how much she needed to feel a touch, but everyone was so used to leaving her without physical affection that nobody actually thought about the possibility of her wanting a hug. There were weeks, even months, when she touched nobody at all, except for the donkeys that she was carrying around so often. But she couldn't just ask for an embrace; she wasn't a child; she couldn't ask to be touched for no reason; it was childish; she didn't have to be hugged or anything. She didn't see adults hugging for no reason... except for the fact how her parents caressed each other, how Tío Felix and Tía Pepa kissed each other like a couple of teens. And Luisa rarely got any physical contact at all... After all, she was stronger—too strong to ask for anything, especially something that silly. She ignored how Abuela was kissing Isabela on the cheek or the warm hugs between Mirabel and their mom. Even if deep inside she felt a crumbling feeling of madness, a willingness to scream for some reason. Luisa couldn't understand why, but she felt envious. And it made her really guilty. She didn't have a reason to be angry; those were just gentle touches, nothing special.
At some point, she claimed herself as the one to give the best hugs. She told everyone that it's because of how big they were, how she can squeeze anyone in a warm embrace like a child. But deep inside, she just wanted to have more reason to hug anyone. But even so, she was barely getting a reason for a hug; it was hard. Luisa felt too awkward to ask for one or initiate it herself. She was an adult. She didn't need a hug. She could go perfectly well without the warmth of another person. It was fine.
No matter if she was lying in her room, silently begging for a hug, feeling her entire body shaking in distress from deprivation. She was too big, too strong to be carried like a baby. The walls that she built were too hard and solid to break, she hadn't asked for physical affection for years, and everyone assumed she didn't need it. And now Luisa didn't know how to say a word; she couldn't want to be hugged so badly, but she was. And she felt really ashamed; she just acted like a child! As the time passed, Luisa got taller than anyone in this village; she didn't look like somebody who needed a hug. And the lack of physical contact didn't help her mental health. Luisa was always an anxious type, but the deprivation seemed to make her constantly on edge, just waiting for a hug that she would never receive.
She didn't remember when she was embraced for the last time. Months? Years? Sometimes she was doing little gestures for others, like putting a hand on somebody's shoulder for support, but only if there was a reason. And yet, she never received those types of affection herself. Her body was begging for a hug—the feeling of somebody's head against her chest. But again, she felt awkward to even imply how much she wanted it. It was fine; it's not like Luisa needed the feeling of touch so much. She didn't need the safety of the hugs; if anything bad happens, her gift will protect her from any harm. But it just wasn't the same; her gift didn't make her feel loved or cared about. Of course, she knew that she was. But it didn't fix the pulsating void in her chest. Luisa wanted to be craddled like a baby, hide her face in somebody's shoulder, and never let them go. Luisa did everything to fulfill her burning wish for touch—that she was replacing physical contact with everything she could. She was sleeping with the stuff toys like a child, clinging to them for the whole night. She was taking a shower for hours just to feel the hot water against her skin, feel the warm on her body.
Luisa was so hungry for hugs that when she finally received one, she froze for good ten seconds because her body was so shocked that it needed some time to understand how to respond. She knew that it would probably be the only hug for her in a while, so Luisa wanted to take it all. But it wasn't enough; she couldn't keep Mirabel in her arms instead of working. And at some point, Luisa even felt worse because this hug felt like it was warming her need for physical contact but didn't satisfy her enough. It was like with physical hunger: Luisa could not eat for the whole day without feeling anything about it, but when she would take a bite, her hunger would flare up like Tía's lightning.
Still, Luisa said nothing. Mirabel wasn't her personal hugger, and they both had a job to do. Luisa would just suppress it like always. She wouldn't die from this, so why should it be a problem? Even if it makes her unhappy, she could get through it.

Rating the Madrigals on how scary I think they would be when angry
Abuela Alma: we have already seen her angry and I NEVER want to be in the path of her anger. I would automatically shut down and cry later. 10/10.
Julieta: 8/10. It would take A LOT to make this woman angry so you know you fucked up if she's mad at you. Similar to how I am, she bottles her emotions up but she eventually will explode and when she does... you can't tell me this woman wouldn't hit someone with a wooden spoon or worse.
Pepa; we already know 😅 10/10. The storms just add to the fury and depending on who you are and what you did, she will not let you get away with whatever.
Bruno: 8/10. Again like Julieta I think people might underestimate him. But think about it, this man has been beaten down so many times and constantly discarded. You can't tell me he doesn't have a shit load of anger and resentment brewing deep in his soul. It would take a lot to make him angry as well but if you do... I am so sorry. I feel like he would just stare me dead in the face and say something about my future I didn't wanna know 😅 but he'd apologize profusely afterwards and I'd be like "nah I deserved it."
Isabela: We already know! 10/10. This woman would say the most hurtful shit while attacking you with thorns and cacti. Even poisonous plants if she's feeling evil 😅 I would hate to be the person to even cross that line.
Dolores: 9/10. Again with the bottled emotion thing. But I really think if she was angry at you for whatever reason, she knows all your secrets.. she might not reveal them since she's a good person but that knowledge alone scares me.
Luisa: 7/10. I know she probably should be higher because of her strength and she could snap me in half but for some reason I feel like she's just the type of person that simply will not talk to you if she's angry.
Camilo; 5/10. He's just not intimidating in general 😅 he'd probably get mad at me for taking his food or something. I think he would just be really petty.
Mirabel: we already know ^^ 6/10. Let's be honest, like Camilo, teenagers can be fucking cruel 😅 but I really think we would both end up crying idk.
Antonio: 2/10. If he's angry, the animals will be too and they'd be the ones I would be scared of. The worst Antonio will do is tell them to attack me or tell his parents but him.. no 😅
Agustín and Félix; tbh I feel like they'd both just tell me off and make me cry at some point so 8/10

Elena's Madrigal Family dynamics
Alma
Alma was not fond of Elena being a lounge singer and while trying, would accidentally slip insults about it. Asking when she was giving it up etc. Also the divorce thing, before she understood the context, but still divorce is like very rare and a bishop has to agree. Yeah that dude sucks, God says yeeteth him.
Eventually, she realizes that she and Elena have a lot more in common when it comes to traumatic experiences and she finds it kind of comforting having a member of the family who understands loss, civil war, hunger and fear of societal destabilizing conditions like her.
So she came around.
Mirabel
She is close to Mirabel, but Mira had complicated emotions about wanting her uncle to be happy. But also worried a new family would take a black sheep ally away. But they worked through it and Mirabel comes to her for advice sometimes. @cheetee wrote a fic about this that was so wonderful, it's hijinks canon now
Antonio.
She adores Antonio, and she plays silly games with him.
Camilo
instant buds and kind of bring out the loving teasing behavior when near each other (Bruno: you're not allowed to gang up on me!")
Also big performer personalities so Camilo learns from her, and she and him help with Bruno's plays.
Agustin.
Get along well, he knows what it's like to not be on Alma's favored side.
Felix.
He is the only of the member of the family she will outright sarcastic jab with. Basically it's an ongoing cold war of short jokes.
Felix: oh Elena, bring an umbrella. Pepa is raining today and I know you and Antonio would be the last to know.
Elena: aye Felix! Short jokes? I'd ask how you could sink so low, but turns out that is your standing height.
Dolores.
To be honest. Sweet girl, thinks she is lovely. But constantly worried she is gonna say something sexy to Bruno and she is gonna hear it (which she suspects she has, bc one time she whispered something and Dolores squeaked, but determinedly wouldn't not look away from her knitting a room over). Also... Apparently she was listening to her uterus under Alma's request... So Elena let that one go
Luisa.
Elena wants to help. Elena, soft little city girl physically, more of a hindrance than a help. Elena insists on helping. Luisa insists she shouldn't. Repeat conversation ad infinitum.
Isabela.
They bonded on the concept of showing an idealized version of themselves to the world and it making them miserable. Elena offers insight into bisexual or lesbian identities based on her friendship with Lucia.
Pepa
these two are sassy little gremlins together. Once again. Lovingly tease Bruno.
Julieta.
Gentle mothering sister even though she is only 12 years younger, and has experienced far more life experiences. Julieta, gonna Julieta. Elena helps her with mass cooking though, bc though she is not as good as cook as Julieta, she has experience making food for a large group from being at the orphanage

The Madrigals and Anxiety
so, I think it's not a controversial statement to say that anxiety runs in the family... what I find oddly cute is that a lot of nervous ticks or outbursts are very similar to those of other family members, but let's proceed with order.
Alma, Isabela
Alma had it hard. I think homegirl is the culprit, but she probably had an anxious gene in her before everything.
do we need to explain what her anxiety looks like? absolute perfectionism to the point of insanity so people won't turn on her, constantly making Bruno check the future for possible dangers, self-soothing behaviours (asking Pedro for help, wearing the mourning shawl), always needing to keep a watchful eye on everyone, you name it.
The perfectionism moved straight through to Isabela. There's a whole song about not meeting expectations, so I don't think I need to go fruther into it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pepa
Pepa is another obvious one. Her anxiety is palpable throughout most of the movie and it is, unlike her mum, mostly related to things that are not life-or-death situations (Antonio's party needing to be perfect).
She is constantly seen spiralling and using self-soothing rituals (hair touching, "clear skies"), often to no avail.
Her mood swings and irritability outbursts are also proof of anxiety.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bruno
Before you come at me!! He clearly has OCD... It's in the script so it was meant like this. And I know people say he was just superstitious, but I come from a very superstitious culture and it's not like that 😭
I can prove it!!
Throwing salt. It is usually done after you have spilled it. Bruno had not spilled any salt before the throwing over the shoulder. It is an act that is meant to cancel bad luck from an extremely specific action that he had not done.
Knock knock knock knock knock knock on wood. You are supposed to knock twice, say it once, only after someone has said something good you don't wanna jinx or bad you wanna prevent. Bruno hasn't been talking to anyone in 10 years, it's just a ritual to him at this point OR it's a reaction to his own thoughts. Superstitious people don't do things based on their thoughts: that's OCD. Also the number of knocks and the one on the head is oddly specific and not related to any superstitious beliefs as far as I'm aware.
Fingers crossed. Again, you do that when you are hoping for something good, but nothing happened he might want to cross his fingers for, it's just another ritual. Also, all of these rituals are kind of contradicting each other (hoping for something/trying to prevent something), he's just trying to bring as much good luck as possible.
I'm not saying he is not superstitious, he very much is, but his superstition pathologized to the point of becoming an illness. This is not how someone who's simply superstitious acts.
He also has a generally nervous attitude and lots of self-soothing movements, like the rubbing his arm we'll get to later.
The only other explanation could be that he thinks he is the bad luck, but that still does not explain things like the crossed fingers.
Tumblr media
Julieta, Camilo, Mirabel
They don't look like they struggle a lot with anxiety (I am only talking about the actual condition, not genuine worry that has a reason of being like Casita breaking or not receiving a gift). They are all very accustomed to dealing with anxious family members though and they are good at it.
Mirabel is probably the more anxious among the three, but she is also an incredible supporter for Toñito, who's not getting his own section simply because his fear was very much justified, but for a literal 5yo his anxiety shows great promise of becoming just like his mum's.
Honourable mention in this section goes to Félix and Agustìn, we stan some supportive husbands and fathers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Luisa
My baby. The first time we see her as being relevant plot-wise is literally because her eye was twitching. Her character arc is learning to chill. I rest my case.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dolores
Now, Dolores is a bit trickier, because she is not as loud as the rest of her family. She does always seem to be extremely on edge though and she is often doubting herself (she stopped believing someone was in the walls despite hearing Bruno for 10+ years because they told her it was not possible).
I don't know whether it's canon or if I've read too much fanfiction, but her room is supposed to have some degree of soundproofing, that she doesn't use because she needs to hear if her family needs help (Luisa's eye twitch).
Finally...
The similar twitches and anxious responses
The arm-rub of Luisa and Bruno (+ supportive sisters <3<3<3<3<3)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The hand movement while screaming, like mother like daughter

SPREADING ENCANTO POSITIVITY!!!!! Are their any Encanto Blogs you would happily show appreciation for and why????? Please tell us!!!!!
I think it's a lovely idea!!! That said, I'm the worst person to ask because I don't really follow that many people, I follow blogs who reblog other Encanto blogs. But I'm still going to try.
Short list; there are more blogs and people I appreciate, but I don't have too much tiem, don't want this to be too long and I think you all already know my friends hmm
@encantoisawesome Lovely person, constantly sharing Encanto-related things, super well organized blog to easily search for each character! Also, I think we have the whole movie in screenshots thanks to them and I always find there that reference I can't find anywhere else, so thank you so much <3
@encantowishes Right now on hiatus if I'm remembering correctly, but one of my favorite blogs to find Encanto content. Besides, romantic fic with asexual Bruno? I haven't been able to read it yet because I'm too busy, but knowing it exists makes me happy uwu
@omgcheez Look. If there's new Encanto content, merchandising, comics, whatever, you'll find it here first. It's always interesting to read his headcanons and comments about the characters and on top of that he makes cute drawings.
@waitingonavision Our pancita lore master. Cute art, sweet fics, lovely person. And everything that Moon posts about Jewish Madrigals is super interesting to read.
@pepa-brainrot I can't say enough about how much I love his art style, the Madrigal look beautiful. Pepa looks gorgeous! If I am sad I look at this drawing of Pepa smiling and I feel better.
Since we are talking about her, @cloudy-encanto is Pepa herself and not just because of her incredible cosplay and the videos she makes, she is like a ray of sunshine when you talk to her. Fics, 3D art, an amazing animation she did for EBB. Just... Wow.
Are you looking for genderbend Madrigal? @firinnie got you covered. And in general super cute content <3
@unskilled-dabbler Nyda also shares a lot of content Encanto-related and she has a very nice art style, I love the way she draws Bruno!
@thecrazyashley-blog Anything I can say about her is overshadowed by the thought that she has a 300k+ word fic. I really admire her for that.
@naoko-world shares Jared Bush's tweets when he does Q&A's and I also like that she post the merch she buys (official or from artists), so I've discovered things I didn't know I needed, too bad about the price and shipping every time lol
Uuuh, okay, I've spent too much time on this and I have to go now. I may extend the list in the future if I have time, sorry......
Super quick round for people I met on instagram! @dororoxpenana Helianthus Deenah Dinarion

I wrote this as an opening for another fic which I wound up scrapping, because the reason I wrote it as an intro no longer applies to the story, and it kind of just interrupted the flow otherwise. Now it's just a fluffy oneshot about Bruno and a three-year-old Mirabel. 🌸
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bad Vision
There was a knock on Bruno's door.
That was surprising. Nobody really visited Bruno - not without an appointment, anyway, since nobody liked to surprise-visit the local domesday prophet. He worried his mother wanted something - would she have knocked? - when the door uneasily opened and revealed Mirabel, the doorknob barely reaching her chin.
"Tío Bruno!" she said happily, as though seeing him in his own home was a surprise.
Mirabel was turning four. She was easily the star of the family, and certainly the apple of her grandmother's eye. She was, even at the age of three, talkative and doggedly helpful. Everybody in town loved her - intelligent for her age, cute as pie, and toddling after them happily, saying: "What's that?" and, "You're really good at selling things" and, "I want to do that when I grow up." Alma took her interest in people as a sure sign that she'd grow up selfless and dedicated; Bruno, on the other hand, observed that Mirabel was good at relating to adults because she wasn't good at relating to other kids. He had a suspicion she'd grow up to be socially awkward, although Alma would probably disapprove.
"Hello?" he said, as she hugged his knees like she hadn't seen him at least a few days ago. "What are you doing here, Mirabel?"
Bruno hadn't asked the kids not to talk to him, but evidently someone had, because his sobrinos never really came in here. And, indeed, he never left. Mirabel had forgotten about him and was admiring the patterns on his walls.
"I need a vision," she said happily.
Bruno's chest tightened a little. "W-who told you that?"
Not his mother. Please not his mother. He'd always been afraid she'd demand to know Mirabel's Gift in advance. Couldn't he watch Mirabel grow up in real time like everybody else?
Mirabel seemed unbothered. "Camilo did."
Oh. That was less worrying. If it was Camilo then it was probably about that night's dinner. Bruno let out a sigh of relief.
"What do you need a vision about, mija?" he asked.
"I can't read."
Bruno suppressed a smile. "But you're only three, Mirabel, you'll learn to read when you're older."
He went to stand next to her as she stared up at the murals. She took his hand and began to swing it gently.
"No," she insisted, "I can't read."
He was puzzled. "I... promise you will learn to read eventually. I'm sure you'll be great at it."
Mirabel took on the patient cadence of her mother explaining something complicated. "But I need a vision from you, or I won't be able to do it."
Bruno scratched his head.
"Would you like me to teach you to read?" he said eventually. "We wouldn't have to use a vision. We could just... use a book."
Mirabel brightened up. "Okay!" she said. "Did you draw this picture?"
She pointed up at the mural on the wall. Bruno chuckled.
"No, I didn't. Casita did."
"I think it's pretty."
Bruno was heartened to hear that; Pepa constantly called his room's decor 'creepy'. "I think so too."
"Can I touch it?"
She had apparently forgotten about learning to read. Bruno picked her up under the arms, surprised to find she was much heavier than he'd remembered, and grunted as he held her up to see the wall. She reached out a hand, beaming, and ran it along the lines. Then she giggled.
"I'm tall," she said.
"You'll probably be this tall when you're older," Bruno told her, the wisened words of a man whose sisters were both taller than him. "Then you'll be able to touch the carvings by yourself."
"I'm four tomorrow!" she declared.
"Tomorrow?" Oh no, it was tomorrow. He had no idea where the time had gone. "I-Is that right? What are you going to get for your birthday?"
"A vision," she said happily.
"I don't think," he began, then sighed. "What about a book? A book with nice pictures like these."
"Yeah!"
He perched her on his hip, and she wrapped her arms around him as he took her to see the next mural. She was, admittedly, a little heavy for this process, but it wasn't like he was getting much exercise otherwise.
"When I can write, I'm going to write a book," she said.
"A book about what?"
"You and me and Luisa and Isabela," explained Mirabel, "And Casita."
"Me? In the book?"
"Yes," said Mirabel firmly, "You'll be in the book, making things."
"What kinds of things?"
"Nice pictures on walls, like these."
Bruno chuckled and shook his head. "Yeah, alright."
Bruno's door swung open again. Bruno found himself freezing, as though he'd been caught doing something wrong; it was only Camilo, though, the other little sobrino, striding in like he owned the place.
"Why are you here?" he demanded.
"So I can read," said Mirabel, "Tío Bruno says he can teach me."
"No he can't," said Camilo, "You can't read."
Mirabel's lip wobbled. Bruno wished his problems were as simple and Mirabel and Camilo's.
"Tío Bruno can give me a vision," said Mirabel, "Then I'll be able to read."
"It's his fault!" shouted Camilo. "Tío Agustín says you can't learn to read because you have bad vision!"
Bruno burst into laughter. By the looks both Mirabel and Camilo were looking at him, they didn't get it at all.
"Mirabel," he said, "For your birthday, why don't we get you a pair of glasses, like your dad's? Then we could fix your vision."
Mirabel cheered up immediately at this. She put her fingers to her face and made a glasses shape. "Like Pa's?"
"Yes, like those! They could be your special birthday glasses. How would that be?"
Mirabel smiled brightly.
"I want glasses too!" Camilo cried, tugging the end of Bruno's ruana.
Bruno suppressed a bark of laughter. "I give people bad visions, Camilo, not bad vision! And anyway, your birthday's already done!"
"I want orange glasses!" Camilo was practically ripping the ends off the ruana. Bruno had to tug them out of his hands.
"I want my glasses to be green," said Mirabel happily, "Like Tío Bruno."
"Like Tío Bruno, huh?" said Bruno, grinning.
Mirabel took Bruno's hand, and Camilo, seeing that he was being left out, took the other.
"We have to tell Pa!" said Mirabel.
"You have to make it happen!" insisted Camilo.
Bruno chuckled and - for once in his life - let the kids pull him out of his room. He had to admit, they were a lot of fun. He could get used to this.

Gale’s Worst to best: Madrigal Family powers
So I got inspired and decided to make a list of the Madrigal Gifts and rate them from worst to best.
There are technically 8 gifts (alma and Mirabel technically don’t have gifts so they will be excluded)
Rules:
1. This is not about how powerful the abilities are. This is about what powers I would think I’d want and what I wouldn’t want.
2. I’m gonna be blunt about it
3. This is my opinion, take it as a grain of salt and feel free to share what your ranking would be.
8. Dolores’ Super hearing
Tumblr media
This is the worst gift. I am 100% on that.
Super hearing on paper sounds good. If someone is in trouble, you can hear them. If you want to catch up on gossip it’s great. But we know how strong her hearing is. She can hear EVERYTHING for MILES. And as far as we know, she can’t turn this off. EVER. Can you imagine that hell? Imagine hearing every person in town taking a dump. Every couple having “relations”. Every private moment someone has. Now Dolores seems fine, but like I seriously doubt she is. I’m a light sleeper, so this would be sensory Hell! If this was adjustable and could be turned on and off. I would move this up much higher
7. Pepa’s weather powers
Tumblr media
This is also not a good power. This is a curse.
Sure weather powers are cool, but not when they are tied to emotion. Pepa has to CONSTANTLY be calm and happy or else s*** goes nuts. Storms happen, rain clouds. Now for the power to be helpful she has to mess with her emotions.
COULD YOU IMAGINE THE CATEGORY 5 HURRICANE FROM HER GIVING BIRTH?!
But luckily for Pepa, this list is about powers I would choose, and thankfully. I’m a dude. I still have emotions, but I don’t have the extremes of emotion that would come from giving birth or periods. Plus, I’m a pretty chill person all things considered. It is still a massive pain to deal with, but compared to the hearing thing. I’d take rain clouds.
6.Bruno’s Future Vision
Tumblr media
This isn’t as awful as the movie says it is.
The thing is he has to invoke the visions. This instantly makes his power better than the previous two. And his visions do come true, so we know they are accurate. That being said, they are also kind of vague and it requires a lot of components to use… so it’s honestly just mid
5. Luisa’s Super Strength
Tumblr media
This is just super strength.
Aside from the pressure of helping people, there is no downside with the power. She can casually move houses. We know it doesn’t impact her physique, having it or not. So I definitely wouldn’t mind having this. Though it is a touch boring, but still a solid power.
4. Antonio Animal friendship powers
Tumblr media
I want to talk to dogs.
Antonio can communicate with animals, and in the film it seems like any animal he talks to becomes his friend. Even Wild cats. So I think it goes a step beyond talking. I think Antonio befriends every animal. Which makes his power super cool. Though the problem is that I don’t have many cool exotic animals here that would make having this power super cool. So sadly this has to be here on the list.
3. Camilo’s Shapeshifting
Tumblr media
Shapeshifting is a f***ing amazing power
Be able to control your size and appearance at will is always a cool power. Though the problem is we don’t know what the limits are. We’ve only seen Camilo turn into people. I think if he could turn into other creatures, he’d probably show that off. And If we go further he can only change into people he has seen. If that’s it’s limit then it’s pretty sad. That being said. Thanks to the internet I can see Billions of faces. I can Litterally turn into whoever I want. I can get into acting and pull off an amazing roll. I can commit identity theft. I can replace world leaders! But jokes aside, I would just be pranking people. It’s only this high cause it’s limited to that.
2. Julieta’s Healing Food
Tumblr media
This power would make me learn to cook.
This arguably is the best power on this list. It can heal allergies and wounds instantaneously.
If my friend is sick I can LITTERALLY make him soup to feel better.
I can make a business curing diseases and healing broken bones with this.
Though in truth, we don’t know what limits there are. I assume the power can’t cure death. But love isn’t needed to heal someone. Since her food helps the entire town. (Which I doubt she loves everyone)
Though we know she has too at least cook. So I can’t just give someone a piece of toast and call it cooking. Which it’s the only reason this is number 2.
1. Isabela’s Plant powers
Tumblr media
Obviously the best power
Complete control over plants. She can even make plants without seeds. She just has to imagine them.
I’d study up on some botony and bam! I got fresh herbs, Bam, Fruit! Flowers!
I can make vines. I can over run cities with plants. Go all Poison Ivy on these fools.
Yes I know her powers are emotion based too but.. she clearly gets control of it. Like it took one song and then she got powers that rivaled Elsa.
