Lovecraft repeatedly admitted in his letters to friends and family, in essays he penned in his early adult years too, that he had absolutely no belief in any phenomenon that might be considered 'supernatural'. He had studied all religions in his youth, but abandoned interest there by the time he was 8. We might consider that the 8 year old Lovecraft was intellectually as advanced as most exceptionally intelligent 20 year olds! It must be admitted, however that his knowledge of the world was gleaned then - and for most of his life - from books. He had very little practical experience in living even as he entered his 40s. He called himself a 'Seeker of the Absolute' at various times. Eventually Lovecraft's scepticism would develop into a strict and refined mindset that would be called Mechanist/Materialist Philosophy. Regardless of this, HPL continued to explore events and concepts in his fiction that could only be termed, 'supernatural'. What would frighten a person of Lovecraft's attitude? What if a week before he died Lovecraft had witnessed some event that even he would have had to admit qualified as inescapably 'supernatural, something absolutely impossible by the laws of nature and reality as he had come to accept them?' Think of the mind wrenching horror such a revelation would have been. Here we had a man who had very little satisfaction with the state of reality as he determined it to be. Just one event standing in challenge to all that he had spent his entire life to know would have been a horror, a dislocation almost beyond conception. Unlike some skeptics who found God on their deathbeds, Lovecraft died a non-believer. He made it plain several times that the truth of the mindless, purposeless cosmos that he had determined as the Absolute Truth was NOT the truth he would have preferred. The painting to the right below was the contemporary work of Niko Vial. (Exhibit 309)

Listen, I'm not one of those people who make fun of people at Walmart, but in 1000% honesty I went to the pharmacy on busy Christmas Eve and three people were just hanging around after some kind of pharmacy transaction, they were not being helped and they were not requesting assistance, one was just wandering around up and down where a line would normally be taking place, being amazed at the amount of people in the store, not staying with the group therefore a line was impossible to be behind until he decided to finally group up with the other two, and the other two were inappropriately horning in on a conversation a different pharmacist that was not assisting them was having with three other people, and two of the people who are doing the horning in, and I am 1000% honest about this, they were both holding plates and eating pulled pork sandwiches and potato salad.
There was absolutely no pulled pork sandwich dining available. They BROUGHT these meals with them!!
They only Departed the pharmacy because they were finally shooed away by a pharmacist who knew me and was like, "I have to help this guy can you leave".
What compels people?

"I maintain that Truth is a pathless land, and you cannot approach it by any path whatsoever, by any religion, by any sect. That is my point of view, and I adhere to that absolutely and unconditionally. Truth, being limitless, unconditioned, unapproachable by any path whatsoever, cannot be organized; nor should any organization be formed to lead or to coerce people along any particular path. If you first understand that, then you will see how impossible it is to organize a belief. A belief is purely an individual matter, and you cannot and must not organize it. If you do, it becomes dead, crystallized; it becomes a creed, a sect, a religion, to be imposed on others. This is what everyone throughout the world is attempting to do. Truth is narrowed down and made a plaything for those who are weak, for those who are only momentarily discontented. Truth cannot be brought down, rather the individual must make the effort to ascend to it. You cannot bring the mountain-top to the valley. If you would attain to the mountain-top you must pass through the valley, climb the steeps, unafraid of the dangerous precipices."
- Jiddu Krishnamurti

WK11. Postmodernism
Engaging with the extraordinary style of postmodernism through poster design, I delved into its perspectives. Furthermore, I reflected on the impact of postmodernism on my design learning and social aspects.
I focused on the subjectivity of postmodernism and formed its relevance to my design learning. I realised that addressing big topics like society, culture, and the world is not the only creative and valuable endeavour; rather, tackling more comprehensive topics can begin from a personal perspective.
Like movie director Martin Scorsese's quote, "The most personal is the most creative," I realised the importance of valuing my experiences and thoughts, and making efforts to explore new ideas through them. His quote reminded me that design goes beyond simply fulfilling functional purposes; it is a process of creative expression through personal elements such as emotions, experiences, and social contexts.
Postmodernism can be discussed in a wide range, and I realised that my opinions differ when looking at it from artistic and social perspectives. I considered postmodernism in those two aspects, focusing that it denies absolute truth and values and respects diversity.
From an artistic aspect, it has a positive impact on promoting creativity by providing various perspectives. However, from a social standpoint, the standards of value judgement can become ambiguous due to the absence of absolute truth and values. This, in turn, could result in societal confusion and unrest. It was intriguing to feel the complexity and chaos even while observing postmodernist graphic posters. It allowed me to sense the interconnectedness between societal and artistic contexts and the interactions within the diverse contexts of postmodernism.

A movie director Martin Scorsese's quote
"The most personal is the most creative." _ Martin Scorsese
I thought of Martin Scorsese's famous quote in terms of postmodernism emphasising individual expression and interpretation. His quote suggests that creativity flourishes when it stems from personal experiences, emotions, and perspectives rather than adhering to conventional norms or standards.

Lovecraft's stories are very often about the human thirst for finding higher, or ultimate truths. Often those truths are horrible beyond imagination. The persons from more ancient and 'tribal' origins seem to be aware of deeper and more essential 'truths' than those from more sophisticated backgrounds. To come full circle the shared knowledge of the sciences will one day reveal to 'modern man' the dark secrets of the universe already guessed at by our lowly breathern. In his personal life Lovecraft was a non-believer, an atheist or perhaps more perfectly, an agnostic. All his life He had been a Seeker of the Absolute. In the end he felt that even scientists would one day be disappointed at the final truth. In Lovecraft's personal evaluation of reality and the meaning of life: There is no order. There is no purpose. There is no endgame. There is only swirling aimless chaos. NOTHINGNESS. (Exhibit 237)

Critical Thinking Skills: Moral Compass, Morality Definition
Critical Thinking Skills: Moral Compass, Morality Definition Only Staying above world standards is still moral decline A teacher in our Sunday School class told us that he and his teenage son had a discussion about morality. “Don’t worry, Dad,” his son said, “I’ll always make sure my standards are above the standards of the world. The teacher explained his answer by drawing this simple graph.…
