I spent some time working in Peru and when I was there I took on the challenge of hiking Manchu Picchu Mountain, which overlooks the famous ruins of Manchu Picchu. It was a much harder climb than I had imagined, made worse by my short legs and the giant stone steps that lead the way in scorching heat. When I looked down at the views below from such a height many of the vistas felt like I was in a hazy dream world. The colourful tropical plants along the way really kept me going when I wanted to give up and turn back and I believe my memory of their colours have influenced this piece. When I finally made it back down the mountain (spurred on by Jeff Buckley and Neil Young in my ears) after many hours to look around the ruins, two llamas greeted me and have made themselves present in the left hand corner of the painting. "Peruvian Memories" Mixed media on deep canvas. The sides of the painting are finished in gold enamel. I’m so excited to share about this new representation with the @jentoughgallery ・・・ We're thrilled to announce our representation of Shilo Ratner. We were first introduced to Shilo's work through social media, and later through the Artist Alliance community. Looking forward to a long and positive relationship! @shiloratner . In my art practice, I strive to create paintings that evoke an acute awareness and centered meditative state towards our daily surroundings using a tight geometric abstract visual language. Often using a horizon line to create a point of reference for the viewer, my paintings evolve with varied opaque and translucent layers of acrylic paint on canvas. While I create a time-based visual context for my paintings with sunrises and sunsets in color choices and titles, my hyper-realistic execution of stillness through a tight complex network of lines and forms indicates an almost suffocating state of our present day reality. I strive to present a perceptual consciousness through the spatial organization of architectural and natural landscapes alike with great attention to the foundation of my colors. The prairie may be flat but our sky is not. A dormant ground, the sky full of color with water catching the light. In some ways I think winter is the best season here in Kansas. Rarely is it too cold and it’s certainly not too hot and the sky comes alive twice a day. This painting is 2 feet high 3 feet wide 2 inches deep.
