We need to put more children in charge of Doctor Who designs

Aqua Man, Hypnotron, and the Steel Octopus (Blue Peter, 1967)
The Ugrakks (TV Action, 1972)
Winning Designs: The Doctor (Brian Blessed), the Master (John Hurt), and companion Maggie (Meryl Streep) (DWM, 1987)
The Vortexians, featured in Land of the Blind (DWM, 1995)
The Abzorbaloff, featured in Love & Monsters (Blue Peter, 2005)
The Screamer, featured in Screamer! (Doctor Who Adventures, 2011)
The Maritimus Carcharias, featured in The Shark Shocker (Doctor Who Adventures, 2012)
Paternoster gang sonic devices, featured in Deep Breath (Blue Peter, 2013)
I'd love to see a story where all the aliens have a cameo. What a motley crew they make in Doctor Who history!

It's time someone finally said something. Finally spoke the truth. The truth that no one seems to want to say out loud...
The Abzorbaloff wasn't that bad of a monster.
Tumblr media
Was it bad? Yes. Undeniably so. That loincloth gave me more nightmares than any stone angel or shop window dummy ever did. But it's not the worst!
It's a terrifying concept actually! Gone with a touch of the creature, absorbing you entirely until you're just part of it's mass, all morphed and broken down in a way that should (if written another way) evoke the same fear as the movie The Thing.
You know what was the worst, laziest and frankly most forgettable enemy The Doctor has ever faced?
The Space Racist.

God bless you Joshua Bowman for finding better roles since.

S2E10 - Love & Monsters
Tumblr media
★★★☆☆
Hoo boy. If this Shrek looking hunk of an alien doesn’t give you nightmare fuel for days after, I don’t know quite know what else will.
It’s come to my attention that the concept of this alien was from a kid’s imagination, when they submitted this idea for a Blue Peter competition. So, this episode gets 3 stars purely for the commitment from the BBC prop department to bringing that kid’s drawing to life as the very puke green, greasy, lumpy Abzorbaloff. I even love the name unironically as well!
Aside from that, for an episode that barely featured the Doctor, I actually enjoyed it so much more than I remembered. It’s very clearly a mirror back on the real life Doctor Who fandom - a group of diverse people (worldwide), sitting around (virtually), discussing all things the Doctor (making gifs), sharing experiences (writing fanfic) and actually making real friendships outside of Doctor Who. It was kind of sweet. And oh so nerdy.
(I am not even going to bother with the dirty joke about Elton’s sex life with his paving slab girlfriend...)
In the meantime, the above image is forever immortalised as the picture for my sister in my phone contacts (she’s put me down as the Moxx of Balhoon, so the love is equally shared). Godspeed, Blue Peter kid. Your fever dream of an imagination has literally been burned into my mind.
QUOTE:  “You’re not from Raxacoricofallapatorius are you?” “No! I’m not the swine! I spit on them. I was born on the twin planet.” “Really? What’s the twin planet of Raxacoricofallapatorius?” “Clom.”

Here's another creepy one! Maybe if the sculptor had put more decoration on this "minimal teapot" the faces would want to stay inside the pot?
I'm sorry but all I can see here is
Tumblr media
[Image ID: the abzorbaloff alien from Dr Who, which is a green alien that absorbs people into his body, leaving their faces sticking out of his skin. The photo has the faces of his five victims from the episode overlaid on an image of him with several faces sticking out of his fat green body. end ID]
This is not the first time I have had this reaction to a teapot and I'm sure it won't be the last but legit every time someone sends me teapots with faces that look like they're trying to escape the teapot like this I can only think of the actual worst episode of doctor who I've ever seen. If I had a nickel for every time I've had to search "Dr who alien who absorbs people" to respond to a teapot ask, I'd have two nickels. But it's weird that it's happened twice.

Note
Would love and monsters have been better if the abzorbaloff was tracking the Doctor down so he could fuck him. And then he seduces him and we see it all on screen.
I don't know what year I received this message in but I was a coward not to post it, frankly. Yes. That would be peak content. Get Russell on the phone.
