I really need an entire supporting staff to read up on and summarise the results of all these interesting papers I don't have time to read myself.

I’ve been translating parts of this anatomy text that I’m researching, and one of the authors in the preface to this specific edition is so petty about the author of a previous edition, it’s wonderful.
Some examples: “Lancisi’s growing age and his many affairs did not allow him to give us a complete interpretation of Eustachi’s anatomical illustrations; nor could he sometimes avoid writing as if he were hallucinating.”
“Lancisi himself noticed these fallacies after he published his edition of Eustachi’s illustrations in 1714, leading him to decide to create another—more expensive and befitting, and purged of that most execrable filth he had written. But, alas, prevented by his own death, he left the foul, infected thing uncleansed.”
“Alas, the Geneva edition of 1717 published Eustachi’s images with Lancisi’s monstruous and truncated commentary.”
And this great concluding sentence:
“In conclusion, it will be enough for me to have adapted such an excellent treasure so that it can be used by lovers of anatomy, with the hope that any who study it will have a safer, more detailed, and more accurate explanation than that of Lancisi.”

Working in education is just paying a ton of money to get your degrees and then continuing to pay to be a part of professional organizations forever and ever until you die because you can't afford to retire because you chose to work in education

well i just haven't been around for a couple weeks now huh?
school and mental health have been really difficult; I've accomplished so little over the past two weeks and i can't help but feel like i can't possibly be trying hard enough :') I'm genuinely like.. a little concerned i might not be able to graduate this semester, which doesn't feel very good at all
BUT!! I have about 5 weeks to really try and get to where i need to be, so I guess that's my goal now, to lock down and crank out as much as possible and hope i can pull it together into something passable (i mean, id like to have something well-done that im proud of, but i think a C is a kinder and more realistic goal atm lol)
we got a ton of snow yesterday and it's been raining since, but we need the water and it was nice to see the snow after a very dry winter 🌨️☃️❄️

seeking advice
Hello my dear academics - and other various nerds.
I am looking for advice for my current PhD application; I am finalizing my Statement of Purpose and I have space in it to talk about my autism diagnosis and Ianto being a service dog.
However, the dilemma, would it be used against my application or not/ should I wait to hear if I get in before telling them I need accommodations like for a job or should I use it in the essay. This application does not have any sort of 'my struggle' essay to write, just a writing sample - my MA thesis - and the SOP.
I already said in it that I wrote and implemented the Egypt Centre's first autistic accessibility program.... which is literally how I found out I'm autistic. So it does fit in, and I have the space.
But it is a disorder that is discriminated against.
going to tag a few folk but I want as many opinions as you have for me so please comment/re-blog whatever. I have also decided that 1 like = 1 vote to disclose so feel free to just like if you don't feel chatty.
@13faeinapenguinsuit @saintartemis @queenanne1532 @chaotic-archaeologist @autie-j @micewithknives @bundibird @rudjedet @sisterofiris
as usual; the above is a non-exhaustive list of the people on here whose opinion I admire and trust. there are always people I have left off because remembering all y'all's handles is impossible.

I was in a public transport and a random girl fell asleep on my shoulder. She, half asleep, then mumbled if it was okay to sleep on my shoulder. "Of course", I said. But that's one of the kindest and beautiful things happened to me that day. Whenever I remember this incident, it still brings a bright smile to my face. Much love to that girl. People, specifically the college and university students, are so mentally, emotionally, and physically ground by this academic pressure these days. And I can feel this burnout even in my soul.

Honestly I am so bad at writing long papers, I just don't know how to keep writing original things I feel like I just end up saying the same thing over and over again. Like my papers always just end up being like 8 solid pages. I hate having to bullshit just for length

You're a professor of philosophy? 👀👀
Yes. My sincerest apologies. At some point I decided a PhD in “fuck around and find out” seemed like a good idea.

Not HP related, but a mere observation/lament: I'm planning and presenting at an academic conference next month and I'm the ONLY female scholar (other than the keynote speaker) presenting.
WHY IS ACADEMIA SUCH A SAUSAGE FEST?!
(ok, why is MY branch of academia so filled with dudes?)

My love language is putting together google drive folders where I share all of my research resources, tenderly grouped into subfolders and featuring a perfectly formatted annotated bibliography. May or may not be putting one together rn after my friend expressed interest in medieval texts on magic and may or may not be in the process of uploading my high-quality scans of beautiful primary sources.
