“Iris” was written for the 1998 film City of Angels starring Nicolas Cage. John Rzeznik explained: “When I wrote it, I was thinking about the situation of the Nicolas Cage character in the movie. This guy is completely willing to give up his own immortality, just to be able to feel something very human. And I think, ‘Wow! What an amazing thing it must be like to love someone so much that you give up everything to be with them.’ That’s a pretty heavy thought.” “Iris” eventually became one of the Goo Goo Dolls' biggest and most recognizable hits, eclipsing the movie it was written for.

A Drink with Osomatsu

"Hoooo that burns going down sooooo good!" exclaimed the man to your right. Osomatsu, the eldest of the sextuplets and one of your best friends, snickers to him himself after taking his third shot of sake. You'd met up with him at Chibita's oden cart, per his request. It had been a while since you saw the small chef so you figured why not.

"Man, you're not kidding," you huffed out, having already knocked back your second shot. The deep fried piece of tofu you munched on on paired so well with the sake no less - at least you hoped that's what was happening rather than you already succumbing to the alcohol. Your squeal of delight made Chibita laugh, "You two are peas inna pod ya know that?" "Chibita!" came your faux offense, "Don't compare me to him! I'm wayyyy better a person than this piece of trash," your finger pointed to Osomatsu. He stuck his tongue out at you, "Piece of trash this dick! You need to loosen up before those panties get in an even bigger twist." The perverse sneer and wagging brows were not missed as he delivered the latter half of his insult. He held up his next shot and handed you your third one for the evening, "Lucky you, I decided to even bring your ass with me tonight." Your glasses clinked and then you took your shots. You exhaled harshly as the sake blazed its way down your throat. That didn't stop you from quipping back at the red clad matsu, "Yeah yeah, whatever. You know you love me, stupid," to accentuate your jest you bat your lashes at him, "You'd be lonely without me anyway" and you reached back into Chibita's cart for a hard-boiled egg. It was just a joke, a little snap back that Osomatsu was used to hearing. Between the two of you it was always surface insults and playfights that devolved into laughter and you enjoying each others company as friends. ...So why, in the dim lighting of Chibita's oden stand, did you look so beautiful right now?

Your laughter warmed him. And when he pushed your buttons or poked fun, you pushed and poked right back without hesitation. Whenever he was with you he felt...free. Free from judgement. Free from responsibility. Free from worry. There was no woman like you. "...I think do love you" Osomatsu whispered to himself, still watching you as you fawned over the pieces of oden you took. The nerves that overtook the eldest brother simmered down when he realized you hadn't heard him. It would be silent for a minute before you finally declared yourself full. Covering your yawn with the back of your hand you sleepily grabbed onto Osomatsu's jacket sleeve, "Take me home you red asshole, I'm eepy"

Osomatsu chuckled, "Alright, alright, just gimme a second." You sprang out of your seat, slow steps making your way in the direction of your place, "Osomatsuuuu, come on!" "I said hold on!" he called back, his hands shuffling in his pockets to find something to give to Chibita. A hand was brought up to stop him, "It's on the house for tonight." "Haa?! You serious Chibita?! Yay!" Osomatsu cheered, snapping his fingers and starting after you knowing he no longer had to pay. "Hold it, Osomatsu," started the oden chef. When Osomatsu turned to face his friend, Chibita's expression was one in earnest. "...Ya better tell her, ya idjit."

That earned a sigh from him. His gaze wandered over to you, who was tapping their foot and humming something to yourself as you waited on Osomatsu. He donned a wistful smile, "Yeah...I think I will soon."

The Demolition Lovers are the couple seen on the cover for MCR’s next album, Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge.
