Okay, so apparently I’m doing a weekly Nancy Drew post about Nace. This is episode 4×06.

Ace at the end of the episode was heartbreaking, it proved everything that he believed about him to be true, that he didn’t mean as much to Nancy as she meant to him, that she’ll move on very easily from him the way she moved on from everyone else.

But, besides all that, this is him hitting rock bottom. Because Ace had feelings for Nancy for at least four years now and he is used to the yearning. He has learned to disguise his love as care and delude himself into thinking that it’s okay, he can live as her friend, always longing for more. He’s lived that way for years and it was okay, it was fine. It wasn’t ideal but he could do it, and he really, genuinely believed that they could do it again, that they could suppress their feelings and be friends.

He never, ever considered the idea of being nothing to her, but he’s now starting to see that as a real possibility and it’s terrifying. Because he was okay with not being with Nancy, it’s not something new to him. But he can’t bear the thought of losing her for good. That’s why he’s that desperate, skipping meals, not going outside and even running after ferrets. And now to see her in someone else’s arms when he finally caught that ferret, which according to him represents their relationship, out there somewhere and out of reach but he found it for her. Only it was too late now and it didn’t matter and he chose to let it go. Oh, I do not want to be him right now.

In all fairness, he did this to himself. At any point, he could have called Nancy and she would have come running. But it’s still so upsetting to see him and his sad face and his defeated posture and did I ever mention how much I hate love triangles!

We don’t deserve this in the last season but oh well…

Nancy Drew 4.03

So I'm seeing online that people find it odd Ace said Nancy's been "on his radar" since she was a sophomore and he was a senior. Note, he never said he was, like, pining for her the whole time, just that he knew he liked her. But people are saying that's retcon (and to be fair, I think it partially is), because we see him pursue other people in the series.

But if there's one thing we know about Ace, it's that he lacks confidence. Why would he ever think the popular sophomore who was so determined to explode that volcano would be interested in someone like him?

If I think back to myself in high school, there were definitely people I was aware of peripherally, even who I may've had a crush on from afar, but who I knew would never reciprocate, so yeah, you're not going to spend every waking moment pining for them, especially if they show you you have no chance by constantly parading new partners in front of you ala Nancy. I think it makes perfect sense that he's always been a little interested, a little drawn to her (we see him jump headfirst into her drama when he had the least reason to from way back in season 1), but never considered dating her as a viable option until later when they got closer.

That's all, I wanted to share my thoughts. Team Ace !

So we're all in agreement that Ace is Joe Hardy but how did he get the name Ace out of Joe?

And so that means his dad's name is Thom Hardy??? I mean, I'd go by my (assumed middle name) if my first name was Fenton.

And they PURPOSELY said Grant goes by his middle name so his first name must be Frank. Maybe it's a Hardy boy tradition (in this universe) that they go by their middle name? And even Grant did it on accident (which is so cute).

So maybe he's Joseph Ace Hardy? So A.H. aren't not his initials......

Idk this is me rambling.
