My switch is showing early signs of being on its deathbed, so I ended up ordering a new switch to be safe. It won't be here until later this week, which gives me, an animal crossing player, time to ask myself a crucial question:
Pros to starting over include:
My old game still works for now, and honestly I suspect I'm jumping the gun on assuming my old switch is 'on its deathbed' - so I can have two places to work with, and can always revisit my old stomping grounds
Now I can use some amiibos I ordered to populate the new one, because I'm getting really attached to the current crew lineup on the old one.
If someone threatens to move off of the old one I can potentially now move them to the new one that way, if I decide to let them go.
A big pro - now I actually know how to play the game the way it's meant to. For a long time I didn't consider full island decoration and made choices to my layout that I now regret but either are too involved to bother changing, or now I don't even know what to do differently after it being that way so long. Starting fresh, I could implement my knowledge and layout my island with more intentional consideration and streamline the decoration process a lot more.
Pros to transferring the old island include:
I am Painfully sentimental and, as mentioned above, I'm getting pretty attached to my island lineup. If the old switch did die with the old island stuck on it that'd probably hurt.
I have logged over 400 hours on this file - 355 on my main account and then a bunch more on side accounts to have themed houses with. That's not the most anyone's put on this game, but it is a sizeable chunk of time to risk losing
Despite my gripe of my layout struggles above, I am getting the island closer to something amazing. Maybe not my ideal image, but the work I've put in has led to it really shaping into something nice, and I feel lately like I'm closer and closer to realizing some visions I've had for it. Since I've never had the chance to ask myself how I'd shape a fresh island, I wouldn't be missing out on fulfilling a dream layout either.
If I start a new island I'm likely starting with an entirely new player if possible - but I will lose access to a lot of diy and furniture catalogues and the like if I do that lmao. Museum progress and the like will also be reset regardless of player transfer, which may make the donation process confusing.

"Look Jakey, Rosie moved in!" Your thumbs swirled happily over the joysticks of your controller as you directed your little character across the screen. Jake had been sweet enough to hook up your Switch to the big TV in the living room, allowing you to show off your game as he held you contently in his lap.
"Rosie," the blonde repeated after you as he saw the indigo cat pop up on the screen. "She's so cute, baby. Her house is so pretty!" His efforts to follow along and engage with what you were showing him were endearing, but his gentle hands creeping up to rest on your sides suggested he might have more in mind than just an innocent gaming session.
You giggled quietly as his teasing fingers rubbed faint circles over your tummy. "Tickles," you hummed softly as you did your best to focus on the game.
"Does it, honey?" Jake grinned, leaning his head forward to sneak in a kiss on your cheek. "You're so silly, sweetie. Just be a good girl for me and keep playin' your game, okay?" Your chest filled with butterflies as his voice dropped down to that yummy, rumbly part of his register. Watching you squirm softly beneath his gaze, Jake smiled. He knew exactly what he was doing to you; turning you to water in his hands was something he took great pleasure in.
You gulped, managing a nod in response. As you did your best to continue through your on-screen tasks, the man's practiced fingers slipped silently under your shirt, pausing to give your bare belly a few loving strokes before venturing upward. He was quick to undo your bra's front clasp, pulling the garment's straps down and away from your shoulders with ease. As he brought a cool hand up to cup each of your breasts, you couldn't help but let out a soft moan.
"J-Jakey," you mumbled, now feeling hopelessly fuzzy and distracted.
"Shhh, sweet girl," Jake murmured soothingly, working your soft skin between fingers, "don't mind me. Just playin' with you, cutie." When he brought his thumbs and pointer fingers up to begin gently pinching at your hardened nipples, you couldn't help but let out the prettiest little whimper the man behind you had ever heard.
"Oh baby..." his voice dropped even lower as he rolled your tender little knots of flesh between his fingers. His tantalizing touch sent tiny sparks shooting up through your nerves, causing heat to pool in your chest as your breaths picked up in pace.
"Jakey," you whined again, your voice wobbling as it came out just short of a plea.
The blonde chuckled at your desperation, cooing as your thighs began rubbing mindlessly together in an attempt to ease the friction building down in your core. "Okay, okay," he gave in as he reached around to take your controller from your shaky hands. "I'm done teasing, baby. You need me to carry you?" he asked knowingly, nodding in the direction of the bedroom.

A “short” acnh guide to keeping resident services in the tent and still being able to terraform and waterscape the island!🌻✨
im saying short bc its probably not gonna be as detailed as watching a video, so i’ll link to two of those as well right here - by boiscrossing and ninatries on youtube.
you need 2 switches to do this and they both need to have acnh on them! also if you dont already have a full played-on island on one of the switches, this whole thing is gonna take an even longer time tbh bc thats kinda needed..
On the first switch that already has an island:
1. create a second character on your main switch island🍃 it has to be a second character btw it cant be the resident rep
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. upgrade that new character so they have a house(any size) and keep grinding for nookmiles!!! this part is kinda boring but honestly the more you do it the more you get to enjoy bc its mostly not gonna be an option on the new island..
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. get the terraforming and waterscaping, as well as anything else you might want from the nookmiles shop! you can also fill up your house/inventory with stuff bc you get to bring all that as well
4. when you are ready to move, go to the start menu and press the minus button(settings) and talk to tom nook, get ready to tell him you want to “move to a new island” and start the process
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the second switch with no island🏝️:
1. open up the start screen for a brand new island! instead of saying that you are new, you pick the option “i’m moving” when it becomes available, and then the game tells you in detail how to move on! and you can actually reroll islands, as long as the directions you get on the first island are over with👀
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. play the first day like you normally would on any new island, dont panic about nothing showing up, you gotta get to the “synched up with real time” place before you get all the things from your pockets and tom nook will tell you that they gotta rebuild your house or something lol i dont remember exactly but something like that
3. He gives you your little phone and thats all you need! You can get straight to filling up rivers and moving cliffs🎉
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now - how to keep resident services from upgrading? This is very easy! you just cant get anymore new villagers! sad but easy to remember! i mean maybe you could get one or even two out of the next 3 available(im not sure, i personally am just not gonna risk it) but you just cant finish that part of the early gameplay if you want the tent! you can get the shops and the museum tho if you want to! but yea otherwise its a 3 resident island(yourself included) so i would consider being very happy with the two starters you get🫶🏻⛺️

Random memory so way back when ACNH was released That Guy got a Switch Lite so we could potentially play it together (but refused to get a second cartridge and then got mad when I said no he can’t set up a house on my island, so...) and I remembered earlier today how he was being condescending back then about me saying I was having a little trouble fishing, especially trying to get the fishing achievement, when there was noise in the house because I couldn’t hear the bobber sound and he was like “Why do you need to hear it? You hit the button when it vibrates. It’s not hard.”
And I was like “It doesn’t vibrate... Yours vibrates?????”
The Switch Lite doesn’t have rumble capability at all.
He didn’t believe me until he tried fishing on the Lite, and he was like “oh....”
That stuck with me because he was being an asshole to me over me struggling with something that was easy for him because he had an advantage over me (being a secondary indicator that a fish was on the line) that he didn’t even know was different for me on the other console.
My PS4 controller is horribly drifty. Both sticks drift so I’m constantly having to fight to direct my toon, and the left stick constantly pops in and out of “I am running” mode when walking (run is a quick tap-tap forward, whereas walk is push forward).
That makes me more cautious when exploring because my controller will randomly launch me forward or sideways, greatly increasing the risk of me falling into a cave or chasm, dying, and losing all of my gear.
But I’m used to it.
I just don’t do much exploring and stick to things I can more safely do (and get mocked for being cautious and anxious).
That’s kind of what it’s like being disabled. There are things you end up having to give up for your own safety, and you endlessly fight with your own body just to keep moving.
