not to complain abt acnh on main in 2024 but i rly do wish we had some sort of visual effect or notification or Something when a balloon rolls by. they're Very easy to miss without audio. people who are hard of hearing or deaf or playing the game without audio miss them a lot, myself included, and i have likely missed a shit ton of diy recipes and furniture alone from simply never knowing they're up there. only times i know they're there is when i incidentally see one's shadow on the ground nearby

#qktalks #idk smth simple would be great ! like ??lil wind lines around the edges of the screen maybe when one's nearby?#doesn't have to be obnoxious it can be subtle. the wind noise itself is already subtle why not add another indication like that visually #the noises in acnh r great and i love the sound design but i usually am very understimulated when playing #and i Need to be listening to music or watching a vid while i play or ill go crazy #so it's very rare i actually listen to the audio itself anymore #and it sucks that that largely takes away a big feature for me </3 nothing will be done abt it im aware but #this is my house. i can complain abt accessibility if i want to

I have finished my ACNH island after 2 years! It took that long because of my chronic pain but I did it. If you want to check it out here is the code with little story I wrote for it:

Dear Observer,

I've heard many stories about this town in the underground community of the supernatural and occult. I had to dig deep for this knowledge, but rumors say plants here never die even if you don't water them for months, not only do they not die, but multiply quickly, some even grow as tall as houses! There have been strange sightings of orbs of light trying to lead people to the forest, those who do leave the forest as stranger people. I've even heard accounts of beautifully erie music coming from the woods, but most people are too frightened to investigate. Some have even claimed to see little people living in the woods. And the last warning i recived from the residents was that if i found food unattended, i should NEVER eat it, lest the spirits take me away to their world forever. As you can imagine, I was intrigued to say the least.

It is said that this was once a bustling town, growing more each day, but just as the population started growing, bad things started happening to the buildings and the residents. It's driven away most of the population. The only people who stay claim that the more they allow the town to be overrun by nature, the less bad things happen to them. Some residents claim that the spirits of the forest are the ones behind the town staying underdeveloped, and these residents leave offerings at a stone altar to appease them and keep them from destroying their homes and in hopes they'll be gifted with good fortune. Near the altar you can find a bamboo tree with wishes written buy the residents on ribbons tied to the branches.

I've accepted a job at this island to be their park ranger at their forest reserve. As an occultist this town was fascinating, It is truly a liminal space, the whole town feels like a dream, a very peaceful but strange one. I'm not the only one who's been attracted by the strangeness of this town, a scientist who goes by the name Petri also recently moved here to conduct research. The locals advise us that if we plan on conducting research we should try to be extremely respectful to the land around us, or else something might go terribly wrong. But out of all the information I've gathered from they residents, the last information i received is the strangeness by far: people who have never heard of this island, who have never even seen pictures of it, have vivid dreams of it and later learn it exists in reality...

That's the thing with ac that always has and always will drive me mad is the way they introduce something so cool and charming in one game just to never touch on it again or they do touch on it but not the right way

And dgmw I get that each game should have something that makes it unique, things that are exclusive to one title, bc it makes them more special that way and it's not just rehashing the same things over and over

I WANT animal crossing to branch out and try new things. When they weren't doing that yeah it did kind of look like they might be remaking essentially the same game over and over with fairly small new additions. Like, by city folks debut that was people's main complaint, that it felt repetitive. And acnl was a total overhaul and a complete turning point for the games general philosophy and direction. And that to me was the best and worst thing that could have happened, at the same time, for different reasons

It was absolutely something that needed to happen. I just wish they hadn't abandoned so many core Things in the process. But even in new leaf it wasn't like, super apparent that that's what was going to happen..I think I didn't really start getting nervous until they released the spinoff games. And then pocket camp came out. And I got more nervous. But I wasn't too worried until the fortune cookies got introduced and they changed the title screen from like, all the villagers around a little globe to a hodge podge of villager heads surrounded by Stuff

But it's like. Fuck. In acnh it's like even the Stuff that they risked it all for isn't that much better than the Stuff we had before. Like even the mobile game is kicking your ass irt sheer creativity and whimsicalness of objects. How does that happen. Don't tell me microtransactions even tho that is the answer

Idk. I need to make my video essay even though I'm far too late now it's been covered repeatedly by now. But not by me!

Passenger pigeons and Tasmanian tigers. :( but every animal that's ever gone extinct because of humans also. I am passionate and emotional abt animals lol

Only English :( god yes I wanna learn more. I'm so insecure about my ability to learn and retain information though. Very bad memory issues. Also I'm just not very book smart I think. I'd really love to learn Japanese if I ever could.

No to both lol kinda got religious trauma and religion and spiritual things make me pretty uncomfortable

Kinda boring but. No scent I would say. Most strong scents trigger asthma attacks and migraines for me :/

Not a big fan and I don't think I've had gum in at least two years bc braces and then I haven't had any even after getting them off but. Anything fruity I guess is good

Probably kit Kat or just like cheddar sunchips lol I prefer white chocolate kit Kat but I don't think I've ever seen a vending machine that has it

Necklaces :> I have a few cute ones. Never been big on rings. I think they'd drive me crazy

Very cishet male of me but it's whatever. I use head and shoulders and it's kind of easier really bc less time I have to spend in the shower considering I'm almost always at least a little fatigued and showers are hell

So Much for Secrets

I wanted to edit "Well, It's Out There Now" to fix some grammar mistakes, give it a better title, and remove more personal aspects of my island so as many of you can enjoy the story as possible!

My ACNH stories so far feature (and will continue to feature) my favorite villagers. It just comes naturally to me that way. BUT I would LOVE to try new villagers so if you have a favorite and would like them in fiction form, please let me know!

The biggest warnings are this IS a tickle fic, so if its not your thing, there's your warning. Also swearing. The two most common warnings on my page

“Here’s to another morning… Calm… serene… kinda dull…” You said to yourself, waking alone in your fully paid-off house on Tom Nook’s Island. You’d been on the island for a few months now and has had no visitors, just mail. Which was better than nothing, but you missed your family, your friends…

“Think of it as a vacation, he said,” You mocked as you got dressed. That is what your brother had said before you boarded the plane, headed to this island getaway, which you originally thought to be just that, until you became the island’s representative. But admittedly, it was nice not being in school, or employed in some office somewhere while still having a nice living space and food on the table. Even the villagers have taken a liking to your and seemed to be Tom Nook’s right-hand person when it came to island matters. You just wish someone, anyone of your friends or family could have come with you.

Anyway, you walked into your living room and was greeted by your pudgy cat. At least you got to take him. He released a pitiful “Rrreow,” as he does every morning before you go out to pick up debris and pull weeds.

“You know by now I do this every morning and I’m back for lunch,” you reminded them as you refilled his food and water as if he understood. “I love you and will be back soon.”

With that, you headed out, making your rounds and greeting the villagers you came across.

“Yo, hoohaahaa, what’s up?” Louie, the fitness-enthused gorilla called, jogging past.

“Hey, Louie!” you called back, and glanced at your phone. 8:13. He was probably on his 28th lap by now. 22 more to go. “Make sure to stay hydrated. We don’t want a repeat of what happened last week.”

Louie actually stopped, scratched the back of his head, and blushed. “Yeah… I was pretty lucky you happened to be in the orchard that day. You’re the best!” He called out, and continued his work out.

“He’s crazy,” You said to yourself, shaking your head.

“I’ll say.” You jumped, looking to your right to see Keaton snickering. A bird with vibrant blue and yellow feathers shouldn’t be hard to spot, but dammit he managed. The two of you hit it off pretty quickly, and his company became comforting, especially when you faced some serious homesickness.

“I don’t want a heart attack today, Keaton.” You stated and crossed your arms, but a small grin gave away how amused you were.

“I would never do such a thing, friendo. Never. Now, scare you for my own entertainment… that, I would do.” You raised an eyebrow.

“Hey, you want a deal on that house expansion or not?”

Keaton put his wings over his heart. “I’m hurt, that you would stoop so low… with me of all people.” You gave him a gentle nudge.

“I’m teasing you, feather-face. But, if you wanted to make sure that deal comes through, you could help me out this morning. I need to pull weeds, tend to the garden…”

“Hmmm,” he exasperated, “Walk around the island with my bestie and share gossip? I think I can manage.”

They first made their way around Resident Services. Kicks happened to be by Resident Services today, selling his shoes and bags. They stopped to look a bit; You found a bag that you thought to fill with other items and send to your family as a care package. For now, you slung it over your shoulders, and they continued to the beachside garden and began pulling weeds.

“So, when do I get to meet the folks? The friends? Or are you actually on the run for something and can’t go back home?” Keaton asked teasingly. You rolled your eyes and shook your head, the signature expression.

“Whenever they visit.” You said simply, knowing that Keaton meant no harm, but you missed them the more they were mentioned.

“What about you? Anyone here catch your eye?” you grinned. For once, you saw Keaton hesitate, and he stopped pulling weeds for a moment.

“Hey, if I said something wrong-”

“No, you didn’t. I was just thinking…” he said, casting another uprooted weed aside. The two of you walked over to the river to rinse off.

“You can tell me. You know the golden rule, we share other people’s gossip, not ours.” You joked, bringing barely a half smile to his face. They stood and continued to the main garden, where the villagers collaborated to produce hybrid plants. The two sat on a nearby bench, deciding to take a break.

“…Y/N...” He said, almost whispering. “I do have my eyes on someone… another bird…” Your eyes widened.

“Is it Piper? You never told me anything!” You exclaimed in a whisper form. Even so, Keaton flailed his wings and shushed you.

“NOOO! She and I are just good friends.” You raised an eyebrow. “You suuuuure?”

“Y/N, I’m trying to be serious here.” The smirk quickly vanished, and you nodded. Keaton brought his knees to his chest, not unlike a scared child during a thunderstorm.

“…it’s… Wilbur.” You breathed a sigh and chuckled a little bit, infuriating the bird. He stood up quickly.

“I TRUSTED YOU, You! And you’re sitting here, laughing at me and- “

“HEY, chill, unless you want to wake up the island.” Keaton sat back down.

“I honestly wasn’t sure what I was expecting… But Keaton, bottom line, relax. I don’t care if you have a crush on Wilbur.” He tucked his knees to his chest again and looked you in the eye. “Really?”

“People like to make this complicated. It’s really not.” Keaton just looked at you for a minute, sighed, and nodded.

“Well, is there something else on your mind? You’ve never been this quiet for this long,” You jested. He gave you a smirk and a sideways glace before hitting your arm. “Shut up. It just feels nice to get that off my chest. Thanks, wingo.” He said and turned to wrap his wings around you in a hug. You squeezed back, though had a mischievous glare still in your eye.

“Just don’t say anything too early. I had Bells on you and Piper.” Keaton gasped dramatically (yup, he’s back) and exclaimed, “HOW RUDE!” before pushing you away from him and off the bench. You cackled the entire time, and once Keaton started laughing too you grabbed onto his legs and dragged him down with you.

“Oh, that’s it! Chores be damned, it’s go-time!” You sprang up before he finished his threat and ran, both careful to follow the path and not ruin the flowers (all the villagers would be upset, but you both would have surely faced Dobie’s wrath). Once out of the garden, you made a beeline for the river; you had your retractable vaulting pole thankfully. You dug it out of your pocket, pushed the button that released the pole, and vaulted over the river. As you retracted and returned it to your pocket, you turned and saw Keaton on the other side. You blew a raspberry before calmly strolling away. Keaton would not be defeated, not like this. He backed up a bit, enough to get a full sprint toward the river before jumping. That and one hard flap of his wings got him across the river.

You were content catching your breath, walking along the beach, until you heard footsteps. “Oh, this must be Louie’s last lap. Good for hi-“ your thought was interrupted as a set of wings took you around the middle, tumbling onto the warm sand of the shore. You landed on your back, but before you entered full-blown attack mode you looked up and saw Keaton straddled over you and laughing loudly. You couldn’t help but laugh too and tried to topple Keaton over. However, he took your wrists and planted himself more firmly on the sand, still giggling light-heartedly.

“Oh, I don’t think so. You were super rude earlier. I think it’s time you apologized.” The only human on the island rolled their eyes yet again. “I was teasing you, dude.” He shrugged but didn’t budge. You sighed.

“Oooh fine. Keaton, I’m sorry about the joke I made with Piper and Bells. Happy?” Keaton smirked.

“Almost. Now, you have to tell me a secret, since I told you a big one about me.”

“Are you joking?”

“Does this face look like it’s joking?” You paused. Keaton glared, knowing there was a sarcastic comment just dying to come out.

“Y/N, I swear-“

“No, but it looks like a punch line!” you giggled at your own joke as if it were the funniest thing you could have said.

“WOW, you’re on a roll today!” Keaton exclaimed, amplifying your laughter. He wasn’t a dumb bird, he knew there was a reason you spent so much time by yourself, even after meeting and getting to know everyone that’s moved on the island. In fact, greeting new villagers was your job, and yet you were still holding something back.

“Come on, you aren’t getting up until I hear some spilled tea. Let’s go,” he demanded, but you shook your head defiantly.

“I don’t have any secrets for you, Keaton. I’m a pretty open book.”

“That so? Then why are you still trying so hard to get me off of you?” For having nothing to hide, you were trying awful hard to get your wrists back. So, you wracked your brain for anything unrelated to “spill,” but just didn’t have anything else.

“Now who’s being quiet?” Keaton playfully mocked. You didn’t know what else to say, so you blurted, “I have three tattoos!” Keaton looked blankly at you.

“I know that. And even if I didn’t, that’s not a great secret.”

“But you’ve only seen two. How do you really know?” Silent blank-staring. Keaton then noticed the bottom of your shirt rose slightly from the struggle.

“Y/N, hang on, I don’t want the sand to burn you,” he said, releasing a wrist so as to fix it. However, when his feathered fingers stroked the exposed skin, you jerked and instinctively grabbed his wrist. He was shocked at the suddenness of your movements, but then it clicked.

“Oh, wingo… that’s the kind of secret I’m talking about…”

“Keaton, NOO-“

“The kind I can totally get behind using against you.”

“Keaton no means no-AAGGH, no-ho, KEEHEEATON!” Safe to say, you underestimated how strong Keaton was. He quickly freed the wrist you caught, held both of yours in one wing, and held them to one side, giving him free rein to glide his feathers over your now more-exposed hip bone. You brought your head to your hands and hid your face while you cackled endlessly at the ticklish sensation.

“STAHAHP, KEHEATON, pleaaAH! HAHA!” Keaton smirked at your desperate attempt at coherent English, as he went from gentle gliding to pinching your hip and working his way up and down your side, while you frantically and flutily kicked the air behind them.

“One of the reasons I liked you was because you and I can pick on each other... But now, knowing this, I know juuuuust how to bring you down a peg!” Your hiding in your hands didn’t go unnoticed, nor did the fact that aside from hiding your face, you weren’t making any real effort to get away from him.

“You want to know what I find funny?” He asked and paused so you could answer.

“Really *huff* bad *huff* dad jokes.”

“Despite it all, I don’t think I’m going to break your sarcasm,” the bright bird replied with a blank expression. “Anyway, no. I think it’s funny that you’d rather spend your energy hiding your face than stopping me~.” You didn’t say anything, but your cheeks flushed a deep red, and you attempted to hide your face again.

“Nuh uh, none of that!” he exclaimed, and rather than just holding your wrists to the side, he lifted them above your head. “There’ll be no more hiding for you~.” You shuddered in anticipation and witnessed mischief take over Keaton’s facial features. If he and Wilber ever got together, you’d have to remember to properly warn him about Keaton’s dark side.

“Though, I’m willing to make a deal with you.” You sighed and relaxed… while you could.

“What kind of deal?” That glint in Keaton’s eye… you were all too familiar with. He’s not done.

“I think this is a fantastic secret you’ve shared with me… whether you meant to or not,” he started, and glided his feathers across your exposed skin, from one hipbone to the other. You clenched your fists and gritted your teeth to try to maintain some form of composure now that you couldn’t hide your face. Keaton chuckled and continued.

“But anyway, I still don’t think it quite adds up to mine. I think I need to know which places will wreck you.” You tried to feign disbelief.

“You don’t think I’m wrecked now?”

“No, I think you were surprised. And I think there would have been a lot more of a struggle if I were onto something. Now, don’t get me wrong, I think this-” He suddenly grabbed and poked at your hip and sides, causing an explosive cackle “-is effective. And adorable.”

“Fuhuhck off,” you replied casually, then froze after seeing his surprised face. Then you realized it was the first time you’d ever said that to him. In jest, of course, but Keaton, ever the dramatic one, played as though he’d never been more hurt or offended.

“Oh, I was going to give you the option to tell me. But that chance has been blown.” He began sinisterly. “I’ll just find out myself.”

“Wait no Keaton I didn’t meheheAAAN IIIITT! NOOOHOHOHAHAHAA!” You couldn’t speak clear enough, and had no way of covering your face, but you still tried to contain yourself enough that he might get bored or think all of your ticklish areas were about the same. But you were never a good actor, and he had already decided to begin his torment again on a bad spot. He kneaded in the middle of your rib cage, resulting in complete hysterics.

“Well, lucky guess!” he exclaimed, switching between this spot and your underarms randomly. It was as if you’d never reacted to such a ticklish onslaught before. “Right? Did I guess right?” he teased, and he chuckled to himself as you frantically nodded and grabbed his wrists instinctively.

Soon enough though your laughing grew silent, and Keaton figured you’d just about had enough. He relented and let go of your wrists, then laughed when you didn’t move them from over your head; you just remained still to catch your breath.

“It’s *huff* too early *huff* for this *huff* shit.” Keaton cackled evilly.

“Gee, I wonder what discoveries I’ll make if I just, ya know, turned around and tried the other half of you.” Your eyes widened and summoned at least enough strength to shove him off, and turned to run until you were jerked backward: Keaton had hurried and grabbed the bag you’d bought earlier that was on your back and used it to catch and knock you off balance, forcing you on the ground, lying face down.

“Damnit! That care package cost me more than just Bells…”

“Your folks and I are lucky you’re so thoughtful.” Keaton played, clearly enjoying himself.

“Oh, shut the hell up.”

“Wow, grouchy. Bet I can fix that, though,” Keaton teased, and You braced yourself again… But nothing came.

“… on second thought, nah.” Keaton said while standing and offered his wing to help you up. You looked up at him skeptically and took his wing.

“What?”

“I decided you earned a break. Plus, that reaction was gold, I know you’re hiding something else, and I’ll try to find out what when you least expect it.” He said triumphantly, though still sporting a sinister glare.

“Oooh, that’s dirty,” You replied, but couldn’t help but grin.

“What? It gives you a chance to enjoy yourself unexpectedly, too, ya know.” The red glow still played at your cheeks, even after you’d caught your breath.

“I don’t know what you mean.” You said sourly with your arms crossed.

“Oh,” Keaton started as they continued along the shoreline toward Bertha and Elise’s houses, picking up shells as they walked. “I’m not oblivious, friendo. If you enjoy something and no one gets hurt, there’s nothing to be embarrassed over.” The statement did NOT help, as you turned away again, feeling the heat intensifying on your face. Deciding he wasn’t helping, he tried to change the subject.

“So… what do you think my chances are with Wilbur? You fly a lot, have you talked to him much?” You peeked over at him and decided to set your shells down and sit in one of the new beach chairs you’d placed a few days ago. Keaton took the one next to you. You shrugged before responding.

“He seems nice, but I’ve never gotten a vibe as to his preference. I could talk to him more, be your wingmate.” You offered, wiggling your eyebrows at the colorful bird. Keaton beamed.

“You would?? I’d really like that, wingo! Thanks!”

“It’s no problem.” Even carrying on a normal conversation, Keaton still had a feeling something was still… off.

“Hey, wingo, there are no hard feelings about earlier, are there? I mean, I was just playing, that’s all, I didn’t mean-“

“You’re okay, Keaton,” You stated, finally turning to face him. You were actually smiling, albeit kind of sadly.

“You’re right though, from earlier. I was caught off guard, I do… actually… enjoy it… it’s hard to admit. I’ve never told anyone about it.”

“Are you for real?” Keaton asked. “What are you afraid of? I’m sure no one that loves and cares about you would think anything of it. At least no more than your usual weird.” He smirked. You shot him a glare, but smirked back. Your face returned to one of indifference and took a deep breath.

“I know that. I just have a hard time talking about it.”

“Why?” You remained silent for a bit.

“I don’t really know. It’s just a… thing. I don’t know.” Keaton thought about it for a second. You looked back over.

“Really, you don’t have to worry about it. I’m not sure when I’ll see any of them again anyway, with me trying to get something started for myself here and all, so… and it’s not worth all the thinking.”

He was clearly not listening and proved it when he turned and said, “Ya know, the news is a thing. Music is a thing. There are a lot of things that you don’t have a problem talking about that you like, right?”

“Well, yeah, but-“

“No buts, I’m not done,” he remarked sassily. You snickered and let him continue. “My point is, maybe you should just think about it as if it’s one of those types of things. And from what you’ve told me, you have decent enough people in your life to listen without passing judgment. And if anyone does… well, another thing is this side of me that hardly ever has to come out, but it will for you, friendo.”

“…oh,” You remarked. Don’t piss off Keaton. Got it. He laughed again.

“Does any of that make sense?”

“Yeah. I think so. Maybe I’ll approach it that way next time.”

“Good. And let me know how it turns out. Because I love it when people tell me I’m right.”

“Oh, fuck you.”

now that the final acnh update has been out long enough for all the novelty to wear off, it’s time once again for me to list a bunch of hopes/wishes for future games (long post under cut)

everything should either be orderable or craftable. tired of furniture I don’t care about taking up space just because I might want it someday. at worst it should just require rare materials or cost a lot

tools don’t break anymore, but you can only buy plain tools. you can get DIYs for different themed tools like how acnh had a billion different wands you could make. all the recipes would be (plain tool)+(1 x crafting material). all gold tools have special properties again

rework wands so they don’t remove clothing from your closet and you can use the same clothing item in more than one wand outfit. you should be able to save hair, eye and skin customizations to wand outfits as well. only limitation is they should give you a warning if you’re about to take a clothing item out of your closet that’s part of a wand outfit. something like “if you take this item out, it’ll disappear from your saved wand outfits. do you want to do this anyway?” (yes) (nevermind). if you try to do something in a wand outfit that you can’t do, like enter the dressing room, the warning should give you the option right there to take it off instead of making you equip the wand, remove it and try again

bring back 4+ shop upgrades. final upgrade has a DIY section that sells standard DIY supplies (since gathering supplies is more annoying late game + you’ll have more money to spend) and a random daily selection of DIYs to help you get those last few you’re missing. always has one current seasonal DIY in stock

custom bulk purchases instead of only being able to buy 1 or 5 at a time. let us make a selection between 1 and however many we can afford

access crafting materials in your storage when crafting

go back to the old catalogue order limit which was 10 items twice a day (since the mail got delivered at 9am and 5pm) or no catalogue limits at all. 5 item daily limit ranks among my biggest gripes with NH

any new years furniture that has the year on it should have each number customizable so you can reuse it for future years. make a whole new years furniture set

first day of each zodiac is always a meteor shower (unless it’s on the same day as a holiday with fixed weather, then it gets postponed to the next regular day)

I like that nook’s cranny and resident services put out seasonal decorations, keep doing that

all buildings should have some level of customization after fully upgraded, even if it’s just being able to change the colours

have the option for more visitors to set up shop in town, but also have the option to kick them out and become random visitors again. sometimes it’s nice to have more buildings to work with, but sometimes they clash with your town’s theme. the selection of stuff they sell as random visitors is the same as if they set up shop, you just won’t see them every day

if Isabelle keeps doing announcements, have her acknowledge special NPC birthdays and mention if there are new seasonal items for sale on nook shopping. alternatively have her come out to celebrate minor holidays like in NL and have special NPC birthdays acknowledged in some other way (maybe villagers bring it up)

Harriet sells earrings and deluxe wigs (think the kind they have in pocket camp), as well as giving you unnatural hair, skin and eye colours. maybe you can apply patterns to your hair as well to give yourself multiple colours??? like how people use patterns in NH to give themselves eyebrows and freckles

Celeste comes out to celebrate predictable astrological events like blood moons and solar eclipses and teaches you a bit about them

bring back crystals from NL, those would’ve been great for the DIY system

don’t have a max cap on how many weeds can grow !! you made them so pretty then limited us to only 149 medium and large weeds because we’re supposed to hate them. beautiful town ordinance can have limited weed growth, but otherwise they should just take over if unattended to

if they’re gonna do free updates again, I want all the big features to already be in the base game. free updates should be things like new furniture and clothing being added. I liked that the holidays got added in updates so they didn’t all get spoiled right away, but other than that it should just be new items. I like what splatoon3 is doing, where every 3 months for two years they’re going to add new stuff. AC should take note and do like a “winter 20XX collection” type thing for updates. also silently add extra dialogue to all the villagers each update to keep them fresh

Salmon Sandwich

In ACNH: 1. Fish up a Salmon. 2. Cook on the stove with 1 Salmon and 2 Whole-Wheat Flour.

In Real Life: from Great Britain

Species of Choice: Salmon, although, as I'll explain under the cut, it could be any fish you like.

Other ingredients: Cream Cheese Whole wheat bread Dill Black Pepper Red Onion Lemon

The recipe I gave is for a Salmon Tea Sandwich - a very small type of sandwich to be eaten as a snack during "teatime", as a bit of British culture. The sandwich that Animal Crossing presents looks just like these little, cold sandwiches (and the in-game recipe follows the one in real life as much as it can), so that's the recipe I chose. However, there are all types of fish sandwiches, and you don't have to use smoked salmon, or lox, if you don't want to.

Now, I said above that I swear we have covered this before, and we *kind of* have. This sandwich is basically just like the Salmon Bagel Sandwich - they both use lox, or smoked salmon strips. If you want to read up on the history of lox, you can check out that article. As an American, I count these two dishes as the same damn thing, and ACNH clearly does, too, at least in its English localization. I know other English speakers may not count the Salmon Bagel Sandwich as a true "sandwich", but that's not my problem. It's bread, and lox, and cream cheese, with a few extra ingredients here and there so like...it's the same thing and ACNH could have done something different.

Anyway, there are so many variations of the "fish sandwich" to choose from and utilize your favorite local fish. Hot fish sandwiches that feature a fillet on bread with lettuce is a thing you can try, although I prefer my fish sandwiches mixed up as a salad with mayo. Still, you could argue fish tacos, which are getting increasingly popular, are a version of the fish sandwich (and I wish ACNH had done that instead). There are also fish burgers you can make - just like a hamburger, create fish patties, grill them up, and put them on a bun. There are so many things you can do and fish you can use, the possibilities are endless.

i know the chances of them adding apartments are slim to none, but it would be so cute having a lil space for our muses to also hang out and take pics. like i know we have the showrooms, but having a lil bigger space and having more of the themed furniture. like we could have rocker edgy with amps and guitars rock posters or pretty princess with lace and frills. it would also just be rooms like having a lot of plants to make like a jungle or garden or lots of books to make a library. Kinda like Harvs island on acnh. A place we could decorate to fit whatever theme we want. It would be an extra part of the showroom so other players could use or another option in the photo egg. i know we can use the plain backgrounds to key out and edit in more fun backgrounds, but i am lazy lmao

I hope with updates they at least add maybe another cocoon or two at least esp with more varied locations/frames for the photo egg. Hope and Love are very similar. i wish we had a more green or naturey location or inside like a cafe or library

- I created a horrific burger and now realize it might’ve worked better if I went with two of the Mystery Gift burgers instead of just one...

- Can’t believe I got family of four form immediately, omg...

- I did some backtracking with my big jump abilites and... There was this item floating in the air?? My Varoom took a bit to realize what I was sending them out to do, lol

- Later I tried to do more creative mode sandwiches after buying a bunch of ingredients and hamburger v2 went bad because I had selected lettuce twice... The ramen burger was so close though! (the angry eevee pick went to waste, ack!)

- I gave up leaving the gyms for last and decided to head to the first gym city so I could get some dang obedience from my Pokemon, but since all my Pokemon are lv30s from the pre-Poison Team grinding I’m hatching more new babies to take on the gym and not be OP. I somehow forgot my Flying Pikachu Event in the grind though?? Anyway, love that I get a preview of Surfing in Cortondo, haha!

- While I was there I decided to finally change my incomprehensible player icon and made it an image of the vending machine’s selection instead! You sure can see how simple the texture on the machine’s controls is, lol. (I wish we could move around when taking pictures like in animal crossing, but even in ACNH you can’t move when taking ID photos...)

- On the 14th, after beating up Brassius and unlocking the Art Teacher I headed back to the school and realized way more areas had opened up since the beginning, ack! I had fun sliding down the slide in the court, but Miriam is v cute, omg...

Judaism and Animal Crossing

YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE JEWISH TO READ THIS, IN FACT, PLEASE READ REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU’RE JEWISH OR NOT

i’m going somewhere with this i swear

actually probably multiple places because i’m ADHD and don’t often stay on just one thought but like,,,bear with me here

OK SO i am Jewish, ya know? like, i was raised in a conservative Jewish household, my mom and dad both come from Jewish families, i attended religious school at my synagogue twice a week in K-7th grade, i had a Bat Mitzvah, i went through confirmation class (though still haven’t technically been confirmed because of covid), i participate in Jewish youth group events and activities and even hold leadership positions in both my chapter and my region. most importantly, i believe in many of the stories and traditions of Judaism and consider these aspects of my life to be very important to me. i am a Jew.

i care about representation. i feel a bit left out during this time of year when i go out to a shopping center or really just anywhere in public, and i see Christmas wreaths and decorations and lights on every streetlamp, every building, every store. last night, my family went to help light the electric menorah that stands on the lawn of our local courthouse, and i commented on how there was a large Christmas tree, a scene of cardboard cutouts depicting the birth of Jesus, wreathes all around on the fence and gate surrounding the courthouse, and a Santa decoration standing right next to the menorah that was as large as the simple electric menorah that stood overshadowed by what was around it. Chanukah lasts for 8 nights. Christmas is one day, but it lasts for over a month.

this is going somewhere i swear. i’m gonna get to Animal Crossing.

the abundance of Christmas decorations and media and representation doesn’t surprise me; it never has. i expect it. expecting it doesn’t mean i’m not still disappointed when someone puts out a single tiny menorah next to a large Christmas tree and thinks that that’s representation.

i like to play Animal Crossing, specifically Animal Crossing New Horizons, though i did use to play New Leaf back when i had a DS. i like to participate in the festive days and celebrations and events in Animal Crossing. i participated in the festivities of Bunny Day earlier this year, though i’m still not really sure why, and that’s part of what this whole rant is about. Animal Crossing calls December 25th Toy Day, and leading up to it there are wreathes and festive decorations and announcements and twinkling lights. today, as i was playing, one of my islanders gifted me a Festive Wreathe and told me that they thought “everyone should have one of these during this season”.

i am a Jew. i celebrate Chanukah with my family every year. we light a menorah every night and we play dreidel and we fry latkes and we exchange presents. on Christmas, we do what many Jews in America do and we go to the movies and eat American Chinese food, sometimes even driving a few hours out to get kosher Chinese food so that i can eat something other than vegetarian lo mein, since i’m the only one in my family that still keeps kosher. i am saddened by the fact that i have yet to see any kind of Chanukah-like decoration or festivities in Animal Crossing. the holiday means Festival of Lights, something that i think would be a great name for a celebration in the Animal Crossing world!

so after all of this, can someone tell me why it is that i still want to display this festive wreathe that my islander gave me? why i bought a festive tree and fireplace back on my old copy of Animal Crossing New Leaf years ago? why i want to shake the pine trees that are draped in colored, twinkling lights, and find ornaments and craft the ornament wreathe DIY that Isabelle sent me?

i take pride in my Judaism. i tell others who are interested about my culture and my religion and what i know about the history and stories of my people, and i answer the questions they ask, and the ones i don’t know the answers to i ask my rabbi or my uncle who is also a rabbi. i share my traditions with others, inviting non-Jewish friends to come eat in my Sukkah during Sukkot, and play dreidel with me during Chanukah, and join my family’s seder during Pesach. i talk all the time about how much i want to be seen and represented and not be constantly overshadowed by Christianity. and i know that my religion is FAR from the only one to be overshadowed in this way. i know that Chanukah gets more attention than many other holidays and festivities of other religions, and Judaism gets more representation in the media than many other religions.

so why do i still want to participate in this same thing that i complain about once it’s brought into one of my favorite video games. am i becoming part of the same problem that i so badly wished could be fixed here in America? am i being brainwashed into thinking that as long as it “isn’t too religious” it should be fine, even though i know that it’s a tradition that stems from a specific religious holiday that isn’t mine? why do i want to participate while also wishing there was a menorah shining through the window of my ACNH house?

i know this is long and anyone who might’ve started it probably stopped reading by now, but if you made it to the end and might have answers as to why i want to participate in the game’s festivities and whether that’s okay or makes me part of the problem, please comment or reblog and tell me because i legitimately want to know. if you don’t have answers but think someone else might, please ask them or reblog or do SOMETHING because this is eating away inside of me.

i don’t want to abandon my beliefs and values because of a game, and i don’t want to feel like an event in a game is making me abandon those beliefs and values. i just want to be seen.
